Delicious and authentic! Great hosts. Comfortable atmosphere.
We went back twice this year, six years since my last review. Unfortunately it seems the quality of the food and service has gone a bit downhill since our last visit. It seems the chef may have changed. The gnocchi was very good but our other dishes were average at best. On our last visit the server brought us our check without asking if we wanted coffee or dessert.
Can't say enough good things about Skappo. The family/staff are a pleasure, the food is great and Moma is just so much fun.
Always a special treat Very friendly family run restaurant with the best romantic atmisfaire
A-M-A-Z-I-N-G
Excellent
An intimate restaurant where the Sincavage family will be your hosts. The food is wonderful every time we go and it has an authentic touch to it! I've been there many times and I always walk away smiling from the entire experience.
Best Italian I've had. Pricey but worth it. Family-run, and they interact and make you feel welcome.
Beautiful and amazing food
AMAZING. Went here for girlfriends graduation, family owned and the family was kind and energetic and you could really tell that they loved serving us and the community. Loved the food. 6 courses and every course was delicious. Definitely going back for my birthday.
Wonderful spot for delicious home made Italian food. The family who runs the restaurant were welcoming and helped make our experience truly memorable.
By far the best italian food. Reminded me of my grandmothers cooking. Not an olive garden so dont look for chicken parm.
You have to go small portions but great food.
Extraordinary experience. Wonderful staff (family). Fantastic food (try the gnocci). Heavenly desserts. Great wines, reasonably priced. My new favorite place in New Haven.
Quaint little place with tons of healthy selections. Decent sized sandwiches, enough to share. Friendly staff, great taste, would definitely eat here again.
We came here as a group of 15 and it was a disaster. We were told right away that they will not split up the check into no more then 4 different credit cards. We sat down at 6:30 and dinner came out almost 2 hours later. Food was expensive, really not that good, and service excruciatingly slow. If you are coming for appetizers and wine, and only with 2-3 people it's probably ok, nobody in my group liked their dinner food.
Great authentic food
A Great experience. Trendy place, Excellent food , friendly service. You can meet Mom the chef ,dad the purveyor of gourmet , brother the Maitre D-Manager and sister the server of good food, what a super family. The service is amazing, you feel you are part of the family. We had the braised rabbit -perfect and the Tilapia very good. Don't miss the gnocchi it is to die for. A night at Skappo will make any occasion more memorable. Go soon.
Superb menu. Friendly service. Every time is a culinary delight....everything.
The food is incredible- the gnocchi are like fluffy, cheesy broccoli clouds, the carbonara is legit with guanciale, literally everything will knock your socks off. Believe it or not, that isn't the best part; the family that runs the restaurant are some of the nicest people ever. I bring family here whenever I can because you become part of theirs! Did I mention porchetta night. Rabbit/coniglio stew? Dear god.
This is a small, intimate restaurant where the family/owners will be your hosts. The food is absolutely superb. We were a party of three and we all shared our meals. Each one was fantastic. The wine list was very complimentary to the meal. Take the time to seek this out this gem for well crafted food with hosts that are sincerely happy to have you in their restaurant. Wonderful.
Delicious non-traditional Italian food. Bench and table seating and warm hospitality.
Wonderful traditional Italian cooking. Made me feel like I was back in Tuscany
Great atmosphere, a unique family will host you!
A fascinating place! We celebrated my partner's surprise birthday there. They made it a memorable night for both of us by surprising us with live music and a cheerful happy birthday! Such a nice, energetic, and cozy family! Highly recommend this place!
The customer service for me was fine. But i did observe terrible customer service to the customer right after me. The customer asked the price for the individual pizza she purchased and the attendant said, "WHAT! Dont ask me nothing." That's was very disrespectful.
Skappo is family-owned, and the family hospitality is warm and wonderful. The food is delicious, with lots of choices.
A small, family-owned and run restaurant that serves dinner only, Wednesday through Sunday nights. Chances are you've never had Italian food like this outside of Italy. Truly genuine dishes from the region around Assisi (where the family is from). Most plates are 'tapas' style - not the huge, take-half-home-in-a-box. Instead of recommending any particular plates, I'd say talk to your server and let them be your guide. They also know their wines and have several from the Assisi region that pair wonderfully with the food. Beyond the food, the warmth of the Sincavage family makes you feel right at home. Like a mini-vacation in Italy, Skappo is Highly Recommended!
Had my second dinner at skappo dinner and it's a true gem! Off the beaten path but amazing food and service. True family owned business with family values. Can't wait to go back to eat more of their crostini with their special tomatoes and airy ricotta cheese as well as their amazing entrees. My gnocchi were like little pillows! So incredible!
Very good pasta
It is small family owned and staffed northern Italian style restaurant. Everything from bread to desserts are all homemade. Wines are Italian with excellent choices to satisfy wide variety of tastes. I had a superb Syrah for $40 a bottle, smooth, fruity with legs. Party of three: one had rabbit, one had tuna, and one had the home made noodles in a fantastic sauce. Even the coffee was perfect BEST of ALL. Acoustics were such that we could hear each other without shouting . Went back two weeks later with other friends and quality was still great.
My kids took us there last Saturday night for my 78th birthday and I felt enveloped in the love of a very special family. The food was fantastic, clearly homemade with authentic recipes and the freshest ingredients. We truly felt that we were enjoying a night in Italy with family!!!!!
I am new in the city an people talked to me about this place. I decided to go with my girlfriend and we both loved it. Lasagna was delicious and worked well with the glasses of red wine that they recommended us. The best of the night was that they are very nice and kind people to the customers. I met the nicest people in new haven since I arrived and I will definetively go back!!
Good wine selection!
I was here with a group of people that I did not know very well yet. The staff provided a great atmosphere that made it easy for us to get to know each other while serving great food.
The best authentic Italian around
Unbelievable cuisine! Everything homemade and beyond delicious. Service was great and the family environment is so welcoming. I will definitely be going back. The Rabbit on the menu is outrageous and appears to be their signature dish.
Delicious tuna very friendly family restaurant
Overall, Skappo is incredibly charming, and does not try too hard to be "authentically Italian" to attract its patrons. Skappo is merely a place where the owners and their family create their sense of home and invite you to join in over dinner. I have to add that the matriarch of the restaurant Anna is the best! She was incredibly warm, so funny, and made us feel like we were part of the family while dining. I would come here again just to say "hello!"
Amazing food, most loving chef. I think about her words often
Very friendly staff, makes you feel you're family.
Visited for the first time last weekend and fell hard for this cute little spot. I'm petty sure we spoke to the owner, her daughter, and her son, all adorable, and added to what felt like a 2 hour get away to Assissi. The meatballs and gnocchi were out of sight. Good wine list, good apps, warm bread, we're ready to go back. Five stars.

Unbelievable, authentic Italian cuisine. Wonderful people who make you feel like family! Highly recommended!
Great, romantic spot to spend a Saturday night having dinner. Having been here before my wife was very pleased with her surprise early Valentine Dinner. True to form the Union League delivered a fantastic dinner of shellfish starter followed by an amazing foie gras terrine for myself, escargot for my wife.
I have lived in New Haven for 3 years and while the Italian food I've had has been better than most, the food here at Skappo is made all the better by an atmosphere of genuine love and concern. My fiancee and I enjoyed a Valentine's Day dinner here that made the evening one not easily forgettable. You must try the meatballs but more than that you must avail yourself to the love that is on the menu here!
Amazing family-run restaurant where the quality of food is matched only by the kindness of the people who run it.
Incredible food and service!
Food and atmosphere are amazing. The family makes you feel at home even if it is your first visit.
Let me preface my review by saying that I have been to many Italian restaurants in New Haven and I feel I have a good palate for Italian fare. Skappo’s by far best represents authentic Italian cuisine! From the intimate dining area to the hospitality of the hosts everything is exceptional. You can taste the love and care they put in all their food. The only complaint is that it is quite hard to choose from the delectable menu! If you want to experience a culinary treat, this is THE place to go!
The food was wonderful, and the wine selection was great! We loved speaking Italian with the owner. It is a definite must for Italian food in New Haven!
Excellent place with delicious food and the nicest people!!! We will come back soon !!
Great place! Excellent food! Amazing people.
Always excellent, interesting, often unusual eating, drawing on Italian cooking traditions far removed from the usual New Haven Amalfitani fare. Also, a warm, inviting, hospitable place where you are likely to have pleasant and stimulating interactions with the family who own it and, probably, the really interesting people sitting near you.
Bravo Chef.
Felt like going to a family dinner. Welcoming staff and fantastic food. Nice variety of different classic "Italian" dishes and some unique dishes. It felt like having dinner with the family. Can't wait to go back.
Without a doubt the best Italian food experience you will have on the east coast. The staff is extremely friendly, even had the owner making her rounds to the tables and having conversations, making you feel like you're a part of the family. All the food is authentic and imported from Italy. A dining experience that you should not miss!
Delicious, honest home-style Italian food served by the kindest family out there.
Freaking evening
Great little place. Everybody was wonderful, and the place was amazing.
Very friendly atmosphere. Felt like part of the family. The food was very good and satisfying.
This appears to be a very nice restaurant and the service was okay. One of our chicken meals was not cooked properly and appeared raw. We told our waiter, who didn't say or do anything about it. The raw part was left uneaten.
