We got turned away for having our 10 month old. We love to spend vacation days in wine regions around the world. We are members of several wine clubs. We took our money elsewhere and had a great time, and we will never be back here.

Tracy

Agreed with the previous comment(s) below regarding poor hospitality. Their customer service is poor, even with management, specifically with my experience with Tobias. They aren't a very accommodating winery, and I've been to many wineries in Napa. Although the aesthetics and decor are very appealing, I'd much rather spend my money elsewhere in Napa.

Paul-Andre Ohm

Beautiful but not recommended for a tasting. The emphasis here is more on the providing a beautiful Instagram experience than good wine. The building is very well designed and has nice but not great views. I had their small and my wife their larger tasting menu. It set us back 105$ and we didn't like a single wine they served. The other 3 wineries we visited offered far superior wine for a fraction of the price. Also the servers were not as witty and engaged as in other tastings but just explained the bare minimum. The charcuterie board was very delicious. My recommendation: just try to get one glass enjoy the atmosphere and do a tasting somewhere else

Bonnie Florida

Pretty location, but many wineries are. So-so wines at ridiculous prices. Great wait staff. Good try, but was just pretentious. Young nouveau riche feel.

Daniel Dulitz

Good food and some enjoyable wines. It's much nicer than it was before the current owners took it over.

Francesco Vozza

Beautiful place, relaxing small lake, great wine!

Great wine, amazing grounds and architecture. Wine is on the pricy side.

If I could give no stars to my experience at Rams Gate, I would. The staff was not nice in any way- no welcome, little explanation of wines, no warmth and no attention. The $40 tasting flight was for 4 minuscule tastings. Nice environment but not worth the drive and cost. Was ultimately very disappointing.

Fancy schmancy pretentious place with sign that says "by appointments". No doubt a beautiful winery with restaurant inside. awesome tasting room with high ceilings a roaring fire in an old barn yard feel. Stick with the buttery chards here their reds were unimpressive imho. Their flights are a bit on the pricey side starting from 40 hard american!

Stopped in on drive back to San Francisco with Team RUMJog — I suggest you add this to your itinerary.

Obviously the wine is good but the boards and the views are great too.

Eat Go See

IG: eatgosee This winery is well worth the journey out of San Francisco as a destination place to visit not only for the selection of wines available but also because of the impressive venue. depending on traffic, this is about an hour and a half outside of the city. If you come for the winetasting then I would highly recommend the pinot blanc which is light, fresh tasting without being sharp or overly dry and very drinkable. It is the kind of wine that you would easily serve to people at a garden party or as an aperitif before dinner. The Pinot Noir is also very light, smooth and balanced. You could easily keep this as an every day wine or serve it as a drink with barbecues or lighter dinners. But really the reason to come here is that the venue is beautiful with a open air and slight hunting Lodge feel to the place. It is very reminiscent of some English manor houses in the way that it is decorated in certain rooms. There is a panoramic view across the valley is looking through the vineyards and to the distance the gently undulating hills. My recommendation is to come here just before sunset and aiming to get here by 4:30 - 5pm as it would allow you to get something to drink, find a great place to perch and watch the Sun go down over the surroundings. The food here is impressive to with the predictably but enjoyable light Californian style of food including slow roasted squash or pumpkin, grilled chicken and bavette steak as well as some light salad is available. #winery #sonoma #wine

We just had the best time there! Great architecture top class and friendly service perfect wine not crowded. And the ambience and view is just wow!

Poor hospitality and hidden prices for glass of wine. There were a lot of free tables, where was a cool view for a vineyard, but host told us that they were reserved. They seated us at the corner of the bar and told that they will look through the reservation to let us seat there, but it didn’t happen and tables were still free. Also they don’t have the price for glasses of wine, it will be the surprise for you at the end. But thanks for a good bartender at least.

We (3 adults) went with an appointment with a wine club member. We had our two boys with us. We were greeted at the front before we could get close to any part of the property and told it was 21 or older. We said we understand one of us was just going to walk around the property to show the boys while the other two adults tasted. The “greeter” said that was not possible because those under 21 weren’t allowed anywhere on the property - not even to see the grounds. We completely understand when kids aren’t allowed in the wine tasting area or there is s section for adults only, but to have to get off the property because we had two innocent children with us?!? This is the first time in our years of wine tasting that we have ever felt such blatant and sickening prejudice, and to have our children hear those words from another adult was extremely upsetting. We might as well have been told we couldn’t look around due to how we looked; that’s how offensive it was to us. Shocking to see that such policies are still acceptable. Obviously we will never return nor can we ever in good conscience recommend them to anyone else.

Pretentious. No wine by the glass unless you are a member, by appointment only and 21 and over only (couldn't bring kids with). Tried getting a bottle and they are quite expensive. Wouldn't recommend

alyssa barbieri

The wine is great, but whatever you do, do not join the membership program. It is indefinite and I have had so many problems getting wine sent to me and my credit card charged even after I told them I didn't want the shipments. Had I known I was giving them free rein to charge my credit card whenever they wanted, I would have stayed far away.

Ram's Gate Winery location enables it to serve as the gateway to the beautiful wineries that dot lower Sonoma County for visitors who make their way to downtown Sonoma along Highway 121. A group of friends and I decided to make a return visit to Ram's Gate Winery after we had the chance to visit earlier in the year for a special event. There, we got the royal treatment which included a tour of their vast facilities that make up just part of their wine growing operations. They moved into this stunning property as recently as 2012 when they rebuilt their tasting room and facility from the ground up, in a lovely rustic country-style motif that emphasizes their farm to tasting room cuisine. They are also one of the few wineries in the area with a full-size kitchen to host wine lovers seven days a week looking for the perfect wine and food pairing that along with stunning views of the valley that stretches all the way to San Pablo Bay, which makes for the most unique experience one can have while in wine country. On this warm weekend afternoon, we made sure to make reservations ahead of time as we were escorted to their gorgeous outdoor patio area that overlooks their vineyard and own pond. There, walk-in guests can purchase a bottle and sip by the water with no reservations. As we decided which tasting best suited our needs, we were greeted by our own tasting room associate Luis, who served us with a splash of their North Coast Brute Sparkling Wine, which provided a nice bubbly precursor to an afternoon of planned wine tasting. As visitors to the winery, we had the option of two tastings: The Gateway, which in their words, serves as an ideal experience for first time visitors and was 40 dollars a person, or The Vineyard Designate Tasting which serves as an in depth look at the highest tier of Ram's Gate Wines and was 65 dollars a person. For both tastings you could choose to pair your tasting with The Board, which for 34 dollars you were served an assortment of cheese, charcuterie and other accompaniments and served roughly 2-4 guests. But only with the Vineyard Designate Tasting could you also order their "Five Bites From Our Kitchen, which for an additional 20 dollars you would receive one housemade canape to pair with each of their premium wines you tasted. Our group was seriously tempted by the Vineyard Designate Tasting especially since it was only that option could you order their Five Bites, but their Gateway Tasting with four pours, two Chardonnays and two Pinot Noirs had just enough punch to make for an exquisite experience out on their shaded patio among their vineyards and great views of the valley and bay. Although we were disappointed we were not allowed to order their "Five Bites" from their menu, their charcuterie board would have to suffice. We started with their two pours of the 2016 Chardonnays, one with grapes grown in the Carneros region, while the other bottle came from grapes grown right their on their estate. Their Carneros bottle was more medium bodied in taste, not too buttery or oakey in flavor, thanks to a deeper acid, while their Estate Chardonnay tasted both velvety and elegant thanks to touches of minerality with every sip. These two wines paired nicely with a number of things on our Board including candied almonds, toasted crostini, sourdough bread, salmon rilletes with chives, pickle slices, various olives, three cheeses including, brie, goat and bleu cheese.

We had a lovely time at Ram’s Gate. There is outdoor as well as indoor seating and we opted for indoors since it was rather breezy when we arrived. There is also a pond with some chairs that patrons can relax in. If you have an opportunity, try their Brüt. I do not think they include it on any of their tasting menus, but maybe ask your server. We had four wines - two Chardonnays and two Pinot Noirs. We weren’t fans of the estate Chardonnay, but everything else was good. They have tables and seating area for larger or smaller parties.

Lovely patio space to do your tastings with gorgeous views overlooking the vineyard and hills. The Gateway Tasting is $40/person and you get four samples. Good sized pours and our tasting guide (Luis) was highly knowledgeable without overloading us. The wines are really good. I'm not normally a Chardonnay fan, but the two on the Gateway were really good. The first (2016 Carneros) is fruitier than I expect from a chard, which was nice. Their Pinot Noirs have strong pepper flavors that I really enjoyed. Luis also took us off menu for some of our tastings, which I thoroughly enjoyed, but couldn't tell you exactly everything we tried. They were all awesome though. Do not miss out on Ram's Gate Winery.

On the website, it clearly stated that with a $65 Vineyard Designate experience, we were to get a tour which we NEVER got or were even offered. Also, when asked if we would get a discount if we purchased 6 bottles of wine, we were told Rams Gate never gives discounts. Yet again, clearly it states on the website that we would have one tasting fee waived if we purchased the wine. The fellow who was giving us the info on the wine only told us one thing that we took away from our tastings - that Rams Gate only uses french oak barrels. Not very informative about the wine at all. Truly a misrepresentation from what is written on the website!

I've been visiting since it opened about three years ago. I used to love it for the beautiful atmosphere and white wine, but lately they've gotten too exclusive. You can no longer eat, and you must do a tasting in order to be there. I wish they made it even slightly accessible to non-members.

Bob Barnett

Audrey Sestak

No children are allowed, which made this experience extra special. Adults only rule made it fantastic. Service was also great and the scenery was beautiful. Wine was good, but since it was a hot day, it would have been better if it was just a little cooler.

Amazing ambience. There is a high ceiling lounge to sit and enjoy wine and there is outdoor seating area by the pond.

While visiting Napa Valley we had a picnic at Rams Gate Winery. Before the picnic they had us taste a few of their wines and we got to select one bottle for our picnic. In addition to the bottle of wine, our picnic included a cheese and meat plate with bread and fig jam. The pond where they set up the picnics is wonderful and it was a great experience. I would recommend it to anyone who is visiting Napa valley.

Excellent wine, architecture and location.

Justin Neustadter

Lovely winery with a picturesque view and a small manmade lake. I saw a few complaints about staff but the ones serving the group I was with were great. My only complaint is the lunch we booked was very small and it was more an assortment of appetizers than a full lunch. Good variety of white and red wined here.

Zar Sewell

I want to live here! Love this place, try the Charcuterie plate. Amazing local cheese, duck pate, and various olives. I like the ambiance and the location. Just a 35 minute drive from Marin. Leave the kids home with a sitter. This is a special place, excellent service, wonderful staff. Best time to go is fall...the colors and all. Good place for out of town guests. I like the way it is built. If I were to build a house in Wine country, I'd hire this architect. Enjoy, life is too short for cheap wine.

Outstanding venue, wines and hospitality. A must for folks visiting the region. Shout out to our sommelier Adrienne Griffith.

Marvel-Phil Sundberg

Nice winery architecture with great views of the Carnaros plains. Wines were nothing special, and being so close to the Bay Area, is crowded. Most of the clientele were 20-somethings and limo groupies entertained by the heavy bass coming from the sound system. Maybe worth another try mid-week when it's quieter.

shannon sterne

We stopped by this winery purely so that I can check out how beautiful it is. I was extremely impressed with the building and the various tasting groups and options set up throughout in the airy dining room, the courtyards & the bar. The bar & patio overlooks the vineyards and is an amazing view. We could relax there all day if we could. We are looking forward to coming back!

AMAZING!!

Nice winery with great views to relax and enjoy nice wine selection they have

We stopped by Ram’s Gate in April on the way to a day trip to Napa. When you walk in the bar area has the most beautiful vista looking out for miles. We had about 45 minutes since we were trying to make lunch at Auberge in Napa. It was the perfect choice. The bartender found out we were from Houston and told us they had just won their Cab entry at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Next thing you know another lady came to chat with us about it and all about Houston. They wines were lovely and the people very warm. Highly recommend!,

andrew plunk

Knowledgeable staff, great wine, amazing food... You must visit Ram's Gate when touring wine country.

really good wine in one of the best settings in Sonoma. great for groups big and small! we say down by the pond under a big tree and enjoyed several bottles of wine with music playing lightly in the background. what a way to end a day off wine tasting!

Yoav Abrahami

Tyler Lund

If it weren't for our flight that night, you'd still find us there.

Jeromy Carpenter

This place is lame. They don't allow you to purchase and drink a bottle of wine at their own bar. Instead, they attempt to force their customers to buy a $40 flight of wine. That's absurd. There are dozens of wineries within a short drive with better wines who sell their flights for as little as $10 and will offer the wine tasting for free if you buy a bottle of wine. This place is way too pretentious for the product they're offering. The only reason to visit is to take photos of their great view. Do that, and then leave.

Brandon Healy

We had a great time tasting the wine and walking around this beautiful vineyard!
