We came from Atlanta to Napa especially for Opus One. They were closed for maintenance the entire weekend we were there without updating google maps. It’s pretty frustrating as we love Opus One and we’re looking forward to visiting
No sooner did I get excited than I tried to order more with with them. Despite 6 emails and 5 phone calls they could not ship a single bottle of wine for less than $70 to Boston (even via ground) and they told me I would have to wait two weeks before they knew if they could ship it. Don't order directly from the winery and don't waste your time with a staff who is too busy for you. Also expect a SUPER LONG wait. So sad that customer service is so poor.
Opus One is definitely one of the most beautiful wineries in the Napa Valley. The winery has a beautiful scenery of rolling hills all around it. It’s remarkable architecture and design is mesmerizing. It definitely feels like you’re about to go into a journey. The wine tours are done by appointment; you definitely need to plan ahead. The tour was very intimate and the wine we tasted was amazing. They walk you through the process of wine making. From the plantation of the wines, harvest, and hand picking the best grapes, combining fruits and aging the wine. Every step of the way has a team of passionate masters of their craft. I personally have the honor to know the wine maker, he’s a wonderful person. He’s very passionate about wine. In the tour it really shows how every person that works in the winery is important and a key to make a bottle of wine. Their focus to every little detail and process is mind blowing.
Best wine in Napa. Highly recommend for people who enjoy fine wine. Although they only make 1 wine, it is absolutely lovely and well worth the visit. I was privileged to be able to try the 2009, 2013, and 2015. My favorite was the 2013! It was extremely complex with wonderful flavors. Also, I had the pleasure of meeting Mael who did an wonderful job explaining the history of the vineyard and providing recommendations.
Need reservations, you can only take few pictures outside without reservation but cannot taste wine without reservation. Wines are relatively expensive.
Beautiful estate! Even more beautiful wine!
Not worth the price for a glass. Unfriendly, wine isn't taste full like other wines worth 20$ at a liquor store for a bottle. Neat facilities nothing good to say other than that.
"Well worth a stop if high end Cabernets are your thing."
Thought i signed up for the tasting and the tour, but i didnt. But still a great place to be. $50/4oz glass of Opus One.... gives me another reason to come back!
Fabulous wine and experience.
Awesome once you are inside, reminds me of a place a king and queen would live. Expensive yet delicious. A bit Napa snooty.
Has the Napa zoo atmosphere and if you like people watching a good place to come. Tastings are expensive as are the wines.
Our fav winery in Napa. Tips: make an appointment few days in advance (especially for weekends) Deff try and head down the cellar ( which is right under the trees of the grand entrance) Tip your server well, they will take care of you Cons: There is no tasting. Only by the glass. Starts at $50 ( but worth it)
Beautiful, but it requires a reservation. I don't drink, but the people I go with tell me the wine is very good.
This was a very high-class winery with really interesting history. They are very meticulas throughout the wine making process. Vicki our tour guide was welcoming, friendly and very knowledgable. I would strongly recommend her!
Order the wine, don't waste your time on the winery. The service is terrible.
Reservations are required for wine tasting. The winery does not offer a lot as far as tours or views go, since they make a limited selection of high end Cabernet. I tried couple of their pourings the day we visited and they were very good. The winery and tasting area are elegant.
Got a bottle of Merlot 2008 from a friend for Christmas. .really like the favor
We were here at first day of harvest. A great time we had, and i even spoke with the headwinemaker!
You can't even get to the store if you don't want to buy their wine. They'll show you the price at the door and tell you if you are not interested they can't take you in. Disgusting
Really nice place but expensive
It was very pleasure time. I visited Opus one for 90 min touring. Staffs were so kind and had very highly etiquettes. They served welcome drinks which was ‘Overture’ and ‘2014 Opus one’. If you want to tour, you should make a reservation on the website. I saw the basement of winery and a tour guide told about history of this wine. I highly recommend this winery when you head to Napa. One thing I was disappointed that in February, the grape trees were so gaunt. There were no leaves, no grapes. I recommend go to Napa in Summer.
I love wine and very gratifying that we have this type of wine in California and so far one of the Best!!
The Zen Palace of US Wine. The wine is amazing, and the winery inspirational. An expensive visit, but well worth it. Staff and setting are formal, but approachable and attentive. The production tour was highly informative - thank you!
Pretty nice tasting experience here.
I just love how amazing these wines are, you can enjoy them young or cellar for a long time. Last time I had an aged bottle from you was 1992 and I blew my mind. Just opened a 2014 and I love how well structured it was. Finding a good reason to open 2015. Cheers!!!!
Magnificent!
I used to be able to go all the way to the top and look at the entire vineyard but this time the receptionist said I need to have a reservation =/ I bit sad that this is the case since this is the must stop place I always bring people to.
Very good wine!
Beautiful estate...some of the best wine tasting anywhere..expensive but you won't regret it
First things' first. The Opus One wine is spectacular. The winery was beautiful. I did a last minute reservation to visit the winery the day before. I was fortunate enough to get that reservation because I hear reservations have to be done weeks in advance. It was quite a drive to get their from Santa Rosa but it was worth the trip. I didn't get the chance to take the tour or hang around long because I had to catch my flight, but was able to purchase a few bottles and was rewarded with some free tasting for my troubles.
Pretentious staff make unhappy It was just wast of time and money
Excellent customer service, our host Young lady was outstanding
Wow!
The gentleman in partner's room ask me to accept the glass wine I bought with fly inside and he told be it is binary while wine producing! Really????
Beautiful winery with fantastic tasting room. Knowledgeable staff. Appointment needed. Excellent wine. Tastings are expensive depending on what you want to taste. We tasted 3 wines, $60, $40 and $20 a glass.sat in roof terrace. Beautiful
Pains me to admit but it's the best in Napa.
Thank you for sharing your winery with us! It was a wonderful experience!
Nice place
Fantastic wines and phenomenal views.
great place
Excellent wine
Fantastic wine at exorbitant prices.
Always wanted to try this wine. Don't understand why/ how they can charge so much for it. It WAS good , but ...
Was somewhat disappointed. Came looking for world class wine, but instead found a hidden Illuminati Temple. 2/5
Wine is not bad, but the service could not be less welcoming.
They only produce one wine, and it is ridiculously expensive.
The wine is one of the best in the US. The space is monumental. However, because the demand is so high, the tour doesn't offer a lot of extras. Additionally, since the range of products is pretty narrow, there are not a lot of exploration as in other winery tours.
Very elegant but not too pretentious as expected, which was good. Great wine.
Very pretentious and way over the top on expense. It is no where near the experience or the flavors of Stag's Leap or Cakebread Cellars selections.
If you like pretentious, snobby people and over done setting offering overpriced wines, then go. But if you like value for price, thoughtful, warm and knowledgable staff and AMAZING wine, just keep driving and to to Vincent Arroyo Winery up the road another 15 mins. Free tastings, better staff and way better wine. 'Nuf said.
Very nice wine with a landscape that fits postcards. Relly beautiful and a reason to spend some time enjoying the moment.
Beautiful winery. When we went it was cold outside but they have a nice terrace where you can take your glass and take in the view while you enjoy their wine. Tasting is expensive but the 2014 ($65 for a glass) was exceptionally good.
Very popular winery, beautiful building. Good wines and crowded on weekends. Reservations are required if you want to visit this estate.
Had a wonderful tasting experience with Laura on a Sunday morning. Arrived a bit early for a 1030 tasting and accommodated graciously with an informative host. Would definitely recommend for anyone traveling to Napa with the goal of tasting some great, high-end wine.
One of the nicest winery here in Napa, price a bit steep if ur not really wine aficionado, but if you are, then it's a treat.
Ultra high end facility, product and pricing. Must have reservations.
Joyce was awesome! Loved the history and also the Wine! 2009 and 2013 were unreal. Thanks again!
The best
Don't be intimidated by the architecture or the quietness! Grab a glass of wine, wander the grounds, and enjoy the unique, elevated view of Napa Valley.
Just got back from trip to Napa. First taste and tour was Opus One, don't miss this one!! At first quite intimidating but after meeting our tour guide (Morgan) and doing the tour I was very impressed and a lot more knowledgeable when finished. Don't miss this one, best wine we had and we went to several of the higher end wineries. I will go back!!!
Well worth the stop, the service was excellent and the wine was fantastic.
The famous “cult” winery of Napa Valley
The concierge isn't accommodating. Lost a costumer. Very disappointed in the experience.
Extremely terrible and rude receptionists!
Went to Opus 1 today for the first time. It was terrible. No tastings. $50 to $75 a glass. We had $65 glass of 2011 reserve. Not even a 6 oz pour. It was very good but not worth the money. The place was stuffy.
Taste their famous opus one 2013, great taste but a bit overprice.
Their wines are fantastic! Make sure to give their Overature a try as well.
Our guide and wine educator Sandy was very personable, knowledgeable, courteous, respectful and mindful to my girlfriend and I. We are only in our mid twenties, and Sandy treated us not like royalty and not like peasants but as genuine individuals with an intrigue for wine and all of its components. Sandy described very accurately and specifically the role of every person at Opus One. The facility is magnificent, state of the art, beautiful, and timeless. Opus One is legendary and entails extreme historical significance. It is an honor to tour and marvel the facility considering Opus One’s role in the Napa Valley. A highly acclaimed winery in the New World which romanticizes and respects the roots from the Old World. Keep in mind when you visit here, you are not there only to appreciate what is in your glass. You are there also, to hear first hand the story of Robert Mondavi, Philippe de Baron Rothschild along with every single Farm Worker, Architect, Concierge, Artist, Landscaper etc. that helped shape the Napa Valley into the ultra premium wine region it is today. If you enjoy history and beautiful architecture, you will enjoy your visit to Opus One.
The luxury aisle in Napa. This compound is incredible.
When I tell people I went to Opus One, the first thing they ask is, "where they all like snobby and pretentious?" The answer is no—quite the opposite. In fact this might be the most enjoyable visit to any winery, anywhere. And I've been to wineries all over the world. I think what people forget is this winery is a combination of the best of two cultures—French and American. Over thirty years after its creation, Opus One still exhibits the vision of the two founders. Everything about Opus One winery is about crafting the highest possible quality wine from the meticulous vineyard management to the high tech lab to the entire winemaking facility. Whatever your opinion is of the winery, you can't deny Opus One's place in the world of fine wines. People who leave negative reviews might be forgetting this winery experience is meant to be different than many other winery experiences. It is what it is, and I absolutely loved visiting Opus One!
Pretty expensive. The building is cool. expect to spend at least $50 on tasting.
I went here with a group of seven on a Thursday. I'm not a much of a wino, so I didn't get a lot of pleasure from the wine itself, but I had a great overall experience here. The place feels unforgivingly ostentatious and pretentious, but the people who worked there were cordial, smooth, and relaxed. The view from the top is great. It was uncrowded on the Thursday we visited so we just hung out upstairs for awhile. It was my friend's bachelor party and happened to be his birthday, so they gave a us a bonus tour of the racking rooms. Very high tech and interesting.
Amazing experience. :) the staff was very knowledgable and kind (Asian lady) and I like how they keep guests by invitation only so there aren’t too many people and it’s less overwhelming. Lovely place to spend an afternoon - feels a bit like being in a spa. 5 star relaxing experience with the most amazing wine
Amazing tour and architecture.
Not any history, explanation of what they do, little to no customer service. Also, flying the French flag with the American flag. Save your time and money for one of the other 479 wineries.
Beautiful facility.
Very relaxing place. Loved it.
upscale winery, fabulous building. $50 per glass tasting . Appointment only .
A good winery to attend if you also worship satan
Exquisite wine, nice people, beautiful venue.
I tasted the 2010 vintage, it was okay, nothing more, certainly not worth the 60$ price for a glass
Worth checking out
The price might be very high compare with Silver oak and RM, but you have to find out yourself why Opus One is Opus One. Please take the tour to see it for yourself.
One of my favourite wine. A kind of pilgrimage for me.
Very great experience, by apointment only
Service is good but I could not enter the building They are remodeling now. Why did not they give information about remodeling. This is unfair They have to say about remodeling in web site
Poor service, very inflexible with the tour policy
Excellent !
It was ok. There was some renovation going on
Visited when they opened their new tasting area, summer 2015 Friendly staff Walk in tastings allowed They have tastings of only one really nice vintage - $45 for a 4oz pour - it is really good They also have baskets of water crackers in the tasting room. Ambiance: - Terrace has very nice view of the mountains and vineyard - You park right next to the vineyard - The building is a round, monolithic fortress-like structure from the outside.
it's hard to make a call to office. and staff can't feedback you soon as possible. bad service
Not great hospitality. Not just us either, a couple we met at silver oak said they had the same experience. Go elsewhere....
Excellent wine, beautiful environment.
I have been here a couple of times and am not impressed. The wines are overpriced for what they are. There are several wineries throughout Napa/Sonoma, providing a better experience and superior wines.
First off, amazing wine! Best Bordeaux-style wine I had in Napa, hands down. On the flip side, Opus One is not cheap and they're certainly not giving it away at their winery. I found the front desk staff to be very friendly and accommodating (we got in at the end of the day without a reservation, which is probably not a good plan), but the staff that poured our glasses were a bunch of 20-something snobs who seemed to think they were somehow essential to the production of this epic wine. So, do you want to taste a truly amazing wine served in a beautiful estate while you're in Napa? If so, visit Opus One. But go for the wine, not the friendly atmosphere.
Opus One has always been a great cabernet maker and I have enjoyed several of their bottles over the years
Very elegant place. They taste by the glass. The non vintage is $25 for a 4 oz glass. Their 2014 was $50 and the 2012 was $65. Arrived without a reservation and they were very nice and I got a tasting with minimal waiting. This place is not for everyone but then again neither is their $300 bottles.
beautiful place
We came here because of the prestigious name and the amazing building. We thought the property and building were really impressive. We sampled a glass of their wine up on the terrace which was really nice. It is a shame that they didn't have any other tasting options besides the steep price for a glass, so we ended up sharing it. I would give it 3.5 stars if I could
Tasting by the glass 2010 & 2012
Amazing wine and venue
Such a bad reception
Excellent tour, however a 40 minute tour with only a taste of wine in the beginning e.g overture, ouch, and a small pour of opus at the end for $160, what a scam. Prices at vineyard no better than at home. Skip this place, if you have to have their wine, just buy it at home, it's not hard to find. For me, I won't visit again or frankly ever buy their wine again. Another napa vineyard with a little too high an opinion of itself
Think I had higher expectations. Glass of tasting from $50~ and most of the wine we had tasted too early. Great facilities but not utilized well enough. When in Napa, I have a lot more recommendations that I wouldn't spend too much time here.
Great experience and the staff is wonderful
Just recalling our experience here when the concierge asked if my wife and I were a Trojan Horse and if other people like us were waiting outside. Beware wearing khaki shorts and a polo shirt here! Judgment will be passed.
Wine is fine, but the service is AWFUL.
Very high end winery. Reservations are recommended. The building it self is spectacular. One of the best wines in the region
Very formal experience, but great wine and awesome tour.
Awesome people, exceptional wine. A wonderful experience
Stellar!
Nice Place!
Beautiful winery. $45-$60 for a tasting - they offered the 2012 vintage and reserve selection. This is a great ending spot for a Napa tour. Note that they only serve 1 wine to you, so it's really one tasting, rather than multiple glasses. You're primarily coming here for the scenery, as it's quite amazing! If you're coming here for the wine, I'd recommend you just dish out the $200+ for a bottle and enjoy it with friends. Come here for the scenery, not the wine!
Extremely rude.
Under construction
Excellent winery, amazing vineyard, superb wine but the people!!.. they're just can't get any better... take the tour, drink the wine and enjoy every single minute.
Top quality red wine
