We have all the opinions of real people who consume the products and services of Del Dotto Historic Winery & Caves (Winery) in the state of California.
At the moment this firm has a score of 4.5 stars out of 5 and that rating has been based on 109 reviews.
You may have noticed that it has an average rating is virtually the best one, and it's based on a large number of opinions, so we may think that the evaluation is quite credible. If there are many people who bothered to leave their opinion when they've done well, it works.
You know that we don't usually stop to place tatings when they are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Winery is classified in the category of Winery.
Friendly pretentious lady greeted us as we walked in to the lobby almost immediately with a 'can I help you' as if we walked into the wrong place. Then 'what can we help you with' and we said we're not sure yet, it's a beautiful vineyard and we're driving around looking at them. Unfortunately we failed to realize we'd need reservations here and she said they were sold out for the day so we drive for nothing. But her demure for a CPL walking in to see what the vineyard has to offer was quiet off-putting. How about 'welcome!' 'We have tours and we're very sorry but they're sold out at the moment.' 'Maybe you'd like to sample some wine?' Instead it felt like walking into someone's living room unexpected and uninvited after they told you to drive over. Onto the next....
While the wine was good, and you do get more here, than on a lot of wine "tours," it's not worth the money. Don't be fooled into the whole "cave" part... it's basically a long dark hallway. There are so many other wineries that are beautiful and worth it. Also... if you get BuzzKill Glen as your tour guide, run!
Came for a bar tasting, got a peek at the caves, and promptly came back for the cave tour with barrel tasting! The hand doc caves are gorgeous and we actually learned quite a bit about barrels, how they’re made, and how they’re used. At the start of the tour we were asked about our wine preferences and then our tasting was geared towards them. Had a great afternoon tasting in the caves and then the bites of pizza and charcuterie afterwards were perfect to ward off a hangover. Would HIGHLY recommend this tour and tasting for a unique Napa Valley experience!
Jeff C was our host and he was fantastic! We learned a lot, had fun and had a great experience. The wines were tasty and the food was delicious. Beautiful place!!
This is such a great winery! They provide you with an exceptional amount of wine and the area surrounded regarding the grapes and where they are grown. The caves are so fun and the pizza and cheese tasting at the end tops it off. Would definitely recommend and return!
They give you A LOT of wine. Super cool experience. DO IT!
Matt was our guide on this amazing introduction to Napa Valley. They are one of the few vineyards with a working cave system. The education and product well exceed anything else in the area. The bottle pricing is fair and the shipping couldn't be easier. The food served at the end was a wonderful surprise. This has to be on the list of places to stop in Napa Valley.
What terrible service. The old, white bearded man has no professionalism at all. He was short tempered and rude. Because my daughter didn't have an ID with her, he got really upset that she walked through the front door. That guy behaved like a thug bouncer at a dive night club. Worst experience ever at a winery in Napa Valley.
Absolutely loved the tour!!! We had a party of 8 and we had a terrific experience! Looking forward to the next time!!
Great experience! Jeff was a great host.
(Translated by Google) Although we had few guests on weekday, GEORGE of staff explained kindly and in detail with tasting of $ 45. There is also special wine tasting and I am very satisfied. (Original) ウィークデイでお客さんが少なかったせいもありますが$45のテイスティングでスタッフのGEORGEが親切かつ詳しく説明してくれました。スペシャルなワインのテイスティングもあり大満足です。
Best tour ever, if you go to one wine tour this has to be the one!!! Brian
After 8 days straight of touring wineries in Napa This was the best tour, hands down. Generous pours, great food, and a spectacular wine cave. The tour guide was also very knowledgeable; he helped you to understand the wine and get the most out of the experience.
We arrived at the vineyards on a lark, not making prior reservations for a tour. We missed out because all reservations were taken. Our loss. With that said, my group was treated quite well during the tasting, being treated to several additional wines that are not usually included, and the wines presented were amazingly good
This is my wife and I first time in Napa, and we didn't quite know what to expect. Alex Horowitz at Del Dotto's Historic Caves was truly amazing. He provided an unforgettable experience as we tried their remarkably superb red wines and toured the winery. He took the extra time and effort to explain their process and provide an unforgettable experience as we toured the cave and even let us taste straight from the barrel. The history of the caves, as well as the bold, delicious Reds they make and barrel age in French and American oak are wonderful. We will definitely come back and I will recommend Del Dotto to anyone coming to the Napa area.
Great tasting experience in the cave. Both of the tour guides in two trips were very knowledgeable.
Don't forget the pizza.
Great tour
Tastings we're so fun!
Great VIP tour of the cave and barrels my favorite was the Port wine at the end of the tour haha only one I can remember was there with the Kudla family in 2010 beautiful building delicious wines for any occasion
You really need to stop here!!!
Simply Amazing
Super fun place, Doug our tour guide was very knowledgeable. The tour takes you back into a wine cave build in the 1800's and added on in the the 1900's. You taste wine from the barrels and get a brief history about Del Dotto and wine making including the barrels. I called to make a reservation and they got us in same day. friendly place and cool building.
Best wine ever
Unbelievable wine, information and ambiance. Ask for Doug, he's the coolest!!
I'm giving them 4 stars because the wine was so great. Was pretty neat to drink out of the barrel. Caves are man made but a cool little tour, food was a four but was glad to have something to soak up the wine. Our tour guide was Kyle. He did his job. We had a party of 9 girls. At one time he even said that there was real wine drinkers in there and we had to be quiet passing them. So that's why I gave the 4. He seemed pretty annoyed with us. I asked if he would do a group pic down in the caves. He said no I'll do it outside the entry cause it doesnt do it justice. I was thinking dude just take our picture. He did take a nice picture at the entrance. Whatever! Nice guy. He was professional. A little stiff for our group though.
Loved the tour; cave experience was a treat! Michael was great. Very knowledgeable. Wines we tasted were fabulous and nibbles were an added treat.
Overpriced. Tasting is nice in that you get cheese, bread, chocolate etc. But not worth $30 and wine quality not matching their prices.
Your is OK, prefer to sit down sometime.
My wife and I stopped here to make a reservation for the following day since we were driving by anyway. Steve greeted us and allowed us to do a tasting even though we hadn't made a reservation. He was a fantastic taste guide, was very knowledgeable of their wines/winemaking process and even poured a few wines for us in addition to our tasting. When it was all said and done, we had tasted several wines and were even treated to a spontaneous tour of the cave w/ barrel tasting. It was an incredible experience for us, and we will be back. The wines are also fantastic--great Cabs here--and well worth their prices (which, despite a couple reviews here, are actually fairly reasonable for the quality product they put out). We're kicking around joining futures club; it's between Del Dotto and one other vineyard we liked a lot.
We had Alex for our tour guide. Very knowledgeable and with his analogies and illustrative examples made it very memorable as well. A great tour 2018 Back again & had Chris for our tour. Very informative and lived many years in Napa and raised a family here. He had had a breadth of experience and has personal knowledge of the winery and area.
Dave is an amazing host. The winery is equally amazing.
This winery offers a fun and unique wine cave barrel tasting experience that lets you really compare wines side by side that have subtle differences like "same wine, but different type of oak barrel".
Hands down the best winery tour ever! Jonathan was amazing... he was so knowledgeable and personable. He really made my birthday special. Thank you, Jonathan! You’ve given us the best experience ❤️ Oh and the wines are absolutely delicious. If you want the BEST experience with the BEST wines, this is the place to go.
Cannot say enough, our tour guide Chris did a phenomenal job explaining the wines. The cave / barrel tour is a great experience.

One of the best experiences we had doing the barrel tasting. We also enjoyed the educational aspects about the barrels and how many permutations there are between the oaks and the burning of the wood. We ordered a case and just received it yesterday. Can't wait to try them again here on the east coast.
Super fun experience, I recommend visiting this cave if you into a more traditional experience. If Steve is available request a tour from him and the MOFO barrels are a must!
Did the cave tour. It was alright nothing special.
Had a fantastic tour with Todd - showed us around the most superb wines, great conversation, and we finished with excellent cheese and meats. Thanks!
Wonderful!
I have loved Del Dotto Winery for some time now. Wines are the best. Love that they have the special chocolate covered wine bottle that is paired perfect for that wine! Great Christmas gift for those special friends or family. Each one of their wineries are different and exciting to visit. Love the cave! Love the castle, love the wines!
What a fun place to go to! Ask for Alex he’s the great one.
I am not even a wine drinker and Leah made the tour beyond enjoyable. She kept my interest with her stand up comedy. She really just wanted everyone to have a good time.
Barrel tasting tour at Del Dotto was the highlight of our four day stay in Napa Valley. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and taught us several interesting facts about wine tasting. Their wines are superb.
7/6/18 Del Dotto Caves are very close to the Silverado Resort, where a handful of my girlfriends and I just enjoyed a relaxing weekend together away from our homes. After massages in the morning, we scheduled a cave tour and wine tasting at Del Dotto. Our guide was very friendly and told us a lot about the wines we were tasting - right out of the barrels! When the tour was done we enjoyed hot pizza and cold salami in the lobby of the winery. The wine was great and it was a fun way to enjoy it and learn about the way that it is made and more. The tour was pricey ($75.00 each), so it's not something I would go back and do again, but we did have a nice time.
This was an outstanding tour and we learned so much about how the tast of the wine is created. Rachael was our guide and we can't say enough good things about her. She was super friendly, knowledgeable and professional. We visited several wineries that weekend, but this was the most personable and best tasting in our opinion. We were skeptical of the price of the tour, but to our surprise, it was well worth it. We got generous pours and the meat and cheese tray was great. I was personally amazed by how much the barrels affected the tast. I have known that the barrels were a important part of the process, but after the side by side tasting, straight out of the barrels, I was shocked by the differences it creates. I highly recommend Del Dotto to anyone who is looking for some wine knowledge and great wine. Be sure to make reservations and ask for Rachael if possible.
Horrible service. The tour guide (Michael) was extremely rude, made raciest and sexiest comments. Also made a point to put down all other vineyards. The tour is not worth the $75, I don’t recommend it at all unless you want to be disrespected and bored. It’s a wine tour NOT a museum. People are there to enjoy themselves and to enjoy the wine. Stay away!!!
Unique Napa experience
Wonderful tour viewing the old caves and vineyard! Would certainly recommend!
Doug was a wonderful guide. Answered questions perfectly.
I really enjoyed this wine tour. I’m not generally a fan of Cabs, but these were so well done I loved them. Great tour guide and the caves make it special and unique!
Nice place.
Thanks to Matt. My husband loved his tasting experience!
Great winery our host was knowledgeable and friendly. We visited many wineries and by far this was my favorite . The wine was excellent.
We had an awesome time. Great wine, straight from the barrel in a man made cave. This was our first time in Napa, and we did a couple other tours, but none comapred to this one. They also give you some food to pair with some wines at the end, which was nice too. Our guide was Kyle, he was great and very knowledgeable.
Such a great experience; however, the $60 per person fee is steep but consistent with other cave tours. The wine is excellent, especially the Pinot. Definitely worth a visit and I would recommend the futures if you don't mind prepaying.
Wine is good, a little pricey but the tour with Delicacies by Del Dotto - do not get that tasting and pairing not worth it at all stick to regular tour and tasting. Also at PIAZZA del dotto the tour guides can be a BUZZ kill especially at the end of the tour when they want to rush you even if you are purchasing wine so they can be done for the day. Estate is my favorite in terms of tour and ambiance.
Great wine! Bravo!
Both locations are great - the new venetian caves are clean and modern and they spared no expense at the property, whereas the old caves are authentic, cozy in a musty sort of way, candlelit and equally inviting. While the service and tours are exceptional (prepare to taste a LOT of wine) more than anything, the wine at Del Dotto is what's most noteworthy. Really we think it's some of the best we've tasted in Napa. They employ free run methods and what you taste (straight out of the barrel) is often not even available (futures.) Their Pinots are great too. Didn't try a single white wine at Del Dotto. Oh, and the tours end with some really great snacks. Sidenote... we ordered a case of wine from them, it took them 2-3 weeks to finally tell us that they were ready to ship, but that by then it was too hot in their opinion for regular ground shipping and so they'd either suggest we overnight it (at our expense) or ship it months later in the cool season. I expressed that their delay in processing is what caused us to fall into the warmer season and therefore they should cover the expedited shipping since we didn't want to wait six months for our wine, and they obliged. Small hiccup but they obviously care about their customers and I would order again.
Fantastic wines , very classy surroundings yet not stuffy . Very informative polite staff can’t wait to come back .
I have done the cave tour twice and plan on doing it a third time. Great experience and excellent wines
A wonderful wine tour within the city limits of Napa, CA. $60 per person, includes wine cave tour with wine samplings. The tour ends with appetizers: cheeses, meats, and pizza. Doug did a fantastic job of answering every question and was patient and articulate. Red wines only! Nice and quant. A great way to start off your visit to Napa Valley.
So unique! We loved the barrel tasting in the caves and the food pairing at the end. The blind barrel tasting comparison was so eye opening and a great learning opportunity.
Outstanding winery, tour, and caves. And the wines are top notch.
Unique and fun experience. Tastings come from the barrels in the caves. Excellent wine educator, Alex, also had a great sense of humor.
Wines were fantastic! Cave tour was really cool
Wow. This was a fanatic tour. Heartily recommended. Jimmy, our guide was great - very knowledgeable and happy to answer our questions. The wines were spectacular.
Great wine great caves but you lose a little of the intimacy that the other wineries have.
Great wine great tour! A must on your wine tasting schedule
Historic beauty. Great wine. Friendly knowledgable staff
Great staff, very accommodating, and amazing wine!
One of the best in Napa.
The cave tour is fun, and the wine is amazingly good.
