This place is amazing! You have two sides of the restaurant with different menus for both. Looks like a fine dining place (it is pricy) but it's casual. Great wine and beer selection, food is /excellent/ and the staff is very friendly and professional. They also have a locally sourced menu to choose from and don't be scared of the pizza as it's also great! Warm semi dark environment that could totally be romantic if you were in the mood. Booth, bar, and table seating. I've been 10+ times and immensely enjoyed every single visit.

The food was spectacular and the servers were attentive to our needs. The busser, Anthony, was the one who truly made my night a good one. I did not have to ask for more water the whole night. Any time I was low he appeared, as if he had been summoned. That little detail made me happy and calm, to better enjoy my meal.

Seven of us met for dinner @ Southside Bistro on a Friday night. The place was bustling, but service was quick and personable. The chèvre salad was lovely, and the pork tenderloin dinner was amazingly good. A friend had the herb-crusted halibut and cleaned the plate, and my husband enjoyed his pasta dish. Another friend had the rib-eye steak, which he thoroughly enjoyed. We were all able to talk to one another without shouting above the sounds of the restaurant, a truly appreciated ambience. (I think that the modern hard surface, warehouse-type restaurants should take note that reverberating din gets old quick). Highly recommend going to Southside Bistro for a special evening with good friends and family for great food, drink and service.

Southside Bistro is my wife's and my favorite place on that side of town. The service is always on point and if our regular guy happens to be working our table, we can expect that our drink orders are brought out and exactly the way we like them before we ask. From the greeting at the front door to the eventual "have a good day" exit, the atmosphere, food, drinks, service and overall feel of Southside Bistro keeps my wife and I, and the friends that we've introduced to the place, coming back time and again. A few side notes: Arguably one of the best hamburgers in town - try the Bistro Burger for lunch! Try their "truffled fries" if you want to taste something different. Their individual pizzas are very good and not too heavy on the crust. Try one with duck sausage - I liked it and I'm not a big fan of duck. I like to order the manila clams appetizer, but I ask for the saffron cream sauce that usually accompany the mussels. The saffron cream sauce is amazing.

Staff was incredibly nice, even had some off menu options for kids that were picked without hesitation. Food was good, atmosphere seemed a bit odd to me. Some of the food options seemed out there, but nothing tasted bad. Outside of the odd options, nothing too noteworthy. I do suggest making reservations, it can get pretty busy.

I love this place. It's elegant enough to celebrate a great occasion, and simple enough for a good hearty lunch any day of the week. My family and I, two kids included, love the menu and chic atmosphere. The fish of the day, it's always prepared at its best, no matter what fish they offer. The ribeye steak is really good too. We will continue to come here as often as we do.

The staff is great, attentive and polite. The atmosphere is clean, lovely and quaint. It's a great little place to have a glass of wine and enjoy an evening. However, let's talk about the food. Their menu is just inconsistent. They had an AMAZING pasta dish that isn't on the menu anymore. They had a cold soup that I sent back because, who wants cold soup? And let's talk about this dessert. WHAT IS THIS? It looks like if you ran out of time to make it so you threw something together and hoped no one would notice. We talked to our waitress about the dessert and she said she COULDN'T take it off the bill but she still took it back to the kitchen?? Umm..either take it off our bill or put it in a box for us, we'll give it to a dog or something! LOL I'm not writing this to try to deter business, I think it's a fine establishment, but these disappointments...I just felt like I needed to share them.

My family and I visited Southside Bistro for the first time today and we were very very pleased. Their ribeye was so flavorful and juicy..probably the best steak we've had in town! Always a fine dining experience. Limited menu, with that being said you can get a great burger to great surf and turf, from micro brews to the brand names and plenty of wines to choose from. Pricing is commiserate with the experience. Bottom line, great food and service! One of my favorites is the calamari appetizer.

Great place for dinner! The atmosphere is nice and romantic and the service is first class. The food is well prepared and seasoned. We enjoyed the brussel sprout salad, filet, veal, etc. Everything was very good!

The food is a bit expensive but so delicious! The decor and atmosphere is lovely and very fitting, though at times the restaurant is crowded. Expect to wait or make reservations for weekend dinners. Our server was very attentive and professional, coming by just often enough but not too often to be pushy. She also knew which wines paired well with our meals. There aren't too many beers on tap but I guess that isn't the point of this place. Oh and save room for dessert, you won't regret it!

I gave this 3 stars because I am always frustrated by the inability to be consistent with their food and especially their to go orders. I was sad to see they closed during lunch. My office would place lunch orders (at least 5 people each time) several times a month. For the most part food was fantastic but at least one order was wrong every time. We would call and talk to someone each time but I don’t know what would happen because nothing ever changed. I live on the east side of town so I often stop in after seeing Dr Lloyd around the corner to grab a bite to eat. Their Caesar Salad dressing is to die for. Not only the best in Alaska but the best I have tasted and I travel a lot. Now that brings me to tonight and my very big, big frustration. My husband was the one that was seeing Dr Lloyd to night and I asked him to order what I get most of the time to bring Home. Small chicken Caesar salad with extra side dressing. I’ve gotten in the habit of checking my order before I leave to make sure it is correct. There is nothing better than a Caesar salad with fresh ingredients and tossed. It has to be tossed to get the dressing all over and let it soak into the croutons. So my husband came home with a salad with no dressing on it and a side of dressing that was only 1/2 full. Very little cheese on it and very hard croutons because no dressing was sweeping through. It just set me off. Again? These messed up again? Really? We live 30 minutes away and I’m just frustrated Again. Now some may say wow lady you are uptight over a simple mistake. Sorry, like I said, again, it seems that it is 40% or more percent of the time something is screwed up. Because I texted what I wanted to my sweetheart and he said he read my text to the lady taking the order, I knew it was ordered correctly. My husband called the lady and she remembered him. When he said what the problem was she said sorry I misunderstood, bye. That didn’t help my already sour mood. When he told me he tipped her I decided that’s it, I’m doing a review. In fairness they can make incredible food. Their shrimp are to die for. In fact if you order the shrimp dinner you will never be able to eat shrimp anywhere else. It is super sweet. The skirt steak sandwich is also way up the list of unbelievable. But make sure it is medium rare. It was made well once and I took a big bite and chewed and chewed and chewed. Awful and tough well done. Wonderful medium rare. My friends like the schnitzel a lot. I thought it was ok but that’s probably just me. I lived in Germany and it’s nothing like the real thing. Easily best French fries around. Great burger and steaks. Really good Cream of Mushroom Soup but they don’t offer it enough. Their fresh fish is usually very good also. And of course the Chicken Ceaser Salad with their incredible dressing is tops. My co worker won’t order it though because she always gets the salad that is all “white”. She said the lettuce isn’t green, just mostly white. I think it’s always full of the core, and stems. Well husband didn’t like the lady’s attitude either and just talked to the manager who says I have a free salad waiting for me. So who can resist free? I guess I will be back next week. Almost didn’t send this in when I found out the manager was so nice but decided to anyways. They have great food but if you take it to go check it before you leave the building.

Horrible old hostess literally turned us away by his inconsiderate, bad attitude. We walked in at lunch and he promptly glares at my husband and curtly states, "you're behind all those people, it will be 25min." No friendly greeting at all. I got the feeling he disliked the fact we had a child with us. Just bad. We went elsewhere where we were treated with respect. I would give it zero stars if I could.

This is the best restaurant in Anchorage, and not just for fancy special occasions. With both dining room and bistro/bar seating and menus, this place caters to every occasion. The menu emphasizes locally-produced or harvested ingredients and the chef (Travis) knows how to experiment with menus without alienating those of us with fairly simple palettes.

Very nice waitress. I had the rack of lamb that was very good. You can tell a lot about a place by how the staff interacts with each other, and they seemed to all be pleasant towards each other. Not a touristy place, more local. If you're trying to get an authentic, Alaskan meal, maybe not your best bet. If you want a good meal, it's a great spot.

Relaxed atmosphere. I was hungry coming here but was not completely impressed with the food. I did enjoy the weathervane scallops and the risotto cake was delicious but everything else seemed lacking in taste. Tuna tartare was overly light. The duck was good but the portion was too small. Lamb fell of the bone but the sauce was a bit unimaginative. For a $130 dinner, I was expecting more flavor. Overall experience was satisfactory. Service was ok.

Got sick from under cooked pork chops. Contacted the owners and didn't receive a response. The menu is very "meat oriented", and while for some that may be a good thing, I prefer meals with more vegetables and variety. Service is good, atmosphere is good, and pricing is fair. One other improvement would be to include more local beer on tap.

Exquisite. Had an appetizer and 1 dessert item, both had incredible smell and flavor. Photos speak for themselves ! Sat at the bar and noticed all the Servers had good attitudes towards one another even when one was starting to worry about an order. This is a fine dining experience with an open kitchen view to the right and a wine bar with additional seating to the left. Come here for those classy one on one dates or just a good savory bite to eat after a long day.
