There are a few things I want to point out so people get the best value for their investment. There was plenty of miscommunication with my blog, The Wealthy Accountant. The blog was late in arrival, but at least one issue from my end contributed to the delay.
The uniqueness of my project caused some problems. My work with Mr. Money Mustache (MMM) and similar popular personal finance bloggers meant my blog would be different from traditional blogs.
I had a few problems with B2 Web Studios I could not get resolved: the subscriber list and a loss of data at the end on Google Analytics. The subscriber list issue caused me to change services to a firm who handles the likes of Tim Ferris and MMM. API issues were the problem with the subscriber list and the new company could not resolve them either so they moved me to Mailgun where I have had excellent results. No subscribers were lost.
I paid hosting fees for the full year 2017. The contract is for hosting, but I moved hosting early in the year. I emailed a request for refund after the fact, but realize a partial refund is not something agreed upon so it wasn't forthcoming and I accepted that.
My biggest grievance came at the end. I was unaware my Google Analytics was supported under B2's account. One day my GA stopped working so I contacted them. They deleted the account and all data was lost. I can't express how devastating that is to a business owner trying to manage his company and track results. There was no communication prior to closing the GA account.
I should have been insistent in switching all accounts. I didn't know about GA issues until it was too late. A quick phone call, or better yet, an email stating I need to transfer my GA account to my personal account would have gone a long way as a customer service.
Looking back I wish I would have clearly defined how these issues should have been handled. I'm not a tech guy and you are probably like me. Please discuss all these issues before signing with any web designer. You'll thank me later.
Finally, I think the folks at B2 are decent and care about their clients. Like a lot of tech people they sit alone in a room doing their work. Communication can be a weak suit for their demographic. You can see on their site some of the good work they do. They make mistakes as we all do. Plan accordingly so it goes smooth. I would rate as a 5 star, but the loss of Google Analytics data is serious enough to downgrade some.
