I thought a lot before posting this review on my experience. A couple of months ago, my dog had snuck underneath my house. We had placed rat/mouse poison blocks to help evade the critters that were taking over. Somehow my dog had managed to sneak under there. She obviously ate the poison. I think of my dog as my child— as do a lot of owners. I will admit, I was frantic after I realized what happened. I wasn’t sure what to do as I had never had this happen. I called my mother in law and she immediately told me to take her to the closest vet. My parents had used TR Vet’s services in the past and raved about them. I just assumed they’d be able to help me and I’d receive the same level of care. I was extremely upset/scared but I felt if I could just get my dog to an office where they deal with this she’d be okay. I packed her and my baby in the car, pulled up to their office, tried my hardest to keep my composer. There was a lady sitting at the desk, she looked startled to see us, we didn’t call beforehand. I calmly stated “My dog just got into mouse poison. I don’t know what to do.” Her response— which I felt was a little condescending, “Well, what do you want me to do about it?” I immediately felt my face starting to get hot. I don’t quite remember what I had said or if I had said anything back. I do remember her stating something that I needed to TAKE HER HOME and make her puke but DIDN’T give me any means or ideas on how to do this. I immediately felt hopeless and walked out in tears. I was terrified I might lose my dog and felt like an idiot for being vulnerable and thinking I could trust them.
I was able to call my mother in law and within 3-5 mins another vet in Sheridan called me and gave me instructions on what to do and to bring her in immediately. I did what they said, and then they also helped to pump her stomach again. They had told me that she injested A LOT of poison. Before leaving, they prepared me for what to expect, what was normal, what wasn’t. I felt relieved when I walked out of their office.
It still bothers me, hence the review. I would have paid any amount they’d thrown at me to make sure she would be okay. Although, this experience was awful... I gave TR vet an extra star because they had been fine for the other/non-emergent care of my previous pets... I’d probably not trust them moving forward. If you need vaccinations or easy care I’m sure it’s fine to use them, but I’d advise using someone else for more serious situations.
