After a long battle with his illness, Sampson found a peaceful end. All dogs go to heaven. I miss him.

Today my daughters piglets wasted 4 hours of their tiny lives because the staff at the this joke couldn't be on the same page or honest. Too many excuses and phone numbers to pawn us off on. Yes we treat pigs. Oh no we don't. They are too sick for our meds to work. My childs poor babies are dying as I write and they were shipped home without a care. Others told us not to waste our time here but they were our only hope. Don't waste your time or engery here. Or get your children's hopes up that an ANIMAlL HOSIPTAL could help her animal.

Would not recommend. The service is not that great, I felt rushed. The vet prescribed a medicine for my cat, that was known to cause horrible skin reactions. My cat lost some of his fur in spots then burned it skin causing scabbing ..after bringing this to their attention, they just simply prescribed something else with no remorse or any other method of resolving the issue ..i thought they were a good emergency vet but over all care is not the best .

I am actually very surprised by all of these good reviews. I brought my cat to Cheat Lake Animal Hospital several times, thinking that it was the best in the area. The waiting area is kind of luxurious, for a vet. However, after giving them a few tries, I decided to bring my cat (and new puppy) to Paw Prints. Every time I went to Cheat Lake I waited 1 hour +, despite having made the appointment weeks in advance. The techs and vets were quick and not concerned. I often came with several questions to ask and each time they quickly answered, or more commonly, left the room so quickly I could not ask. After waiting 60-90 minutes, I'd expect them to spend more than 3 minutes with me, especially when I am paying them hundreds of dollars (not an exaggeration). I made the switch to Paw Prints (on the Mile Ground) when I reluctantly called to make an appointment at Cheat Lake and their prices were substantially higher than Paw Prints. I brought my cat to Paw Prints the same day I called to make an appointment, we waited in the waiting room for five minutes, then the Vet spent almost over a half hour with us answering all of our questions and showing us how to administer our cat's medication. Paw Prints isn't fancy like Cheat Lake, but I'm more concerned about my pet's wellbeing than the architecture of a building. SWITCHING TO PAW PRINTS WAS THE BEST CHOICE I HAVE MADE AS A PET OWNER.

These people are horrible should not be in business do not go there. My dog was attacked by a pit and they had her for three days I told them where the wounds where they where supposed to fix it all charged me 2 grand and didn't check a single spot on her body! I noticed it immediately and have paperwork from the e.r vet saying they did not address several wounds. How do u miss several wounds! Because of this one of them got infected and now my dog has a tube going thru her body and leaking everywhere from infection had to go back under and get re stitched up! It's impossible to miss everything they did complete incompetence I noticed them within 5 minutes 2 grand and they didn't even fix her they sent her home to die of infection from wounds that where not treatex. HORRIBLE place they should be more then sued there negligence traumatized my family all over again because of injurys a blind man can see what is wrong with you people!!!

My parents took they're german shepard there, after sitting in a room for 1.5 hrs, and nobody coming in to check on them, the poor dog layed there suffering, a girl finally came in and took his temp and told them ""he won't die in the next ten minutes" after sitting there even longer the poor thing did stop breathing, he layed there bleeding out and they did nothing!!! After he finally passed they charged my parents over 500 dollars for doing absolutely nothing!!! Do not take your fur babies here under any circumstances!!!

I contacted Cheat Lake Animal Hospital when my beloved kitty Gideon began having Grand Mal Seizures. I was scared to death and afraid he might not make it. When I got him to the hospital the staff and doctors were so attentive, competent and kind. They took him back and evaluated him to make sure he was alright. They then put him on Phenobarbital and we tried that to see if it would control his condition. Unfortunately, this medication alone did not control his seizures and he had an exceptionally bad one. I took him back to the hospital and the doctors there decided it would be a good idea to try a somewhat experimental drug called Zonisimide in conjunction with the Phenobarbital. As soon as Gideon started on the second medication his seizures immediately stopped and we are now in the process of weening him from the Phenobarbital. If it works my baby will only need to take a pill twice a day and not the other medication also. Cheat Lake Animal Hospital is the most wonderful place for pets I have ever encountered. They are compassionate and truly care about the well-being of their four-legged patients. Thank you to all at this incredible place for saving the life of Gideon. He is not just a pet. He is a member of the family. My four-legged baby. I will be eternally grateful to all of you for what you have done. I am certain that there is a special place in Heaven for all of you. Thank you again for all you do.

On Easter Sunday I called Cheat Lake Animal Hospital because my dog was having a seizure & told them I didn't have the money on that day, but would have it Friday. I was told to get online & fill out an application for pet insurance. Keep in mind that they had seen my dog 1 other time & were paid in full on that day. My husband & I had to sit with our dog while she had seizures for 2 1/2 hours until she finally died, she was 3 1/2 years old. We could not get the insurance so therefore we had to watch her die. It is all about money not helping a poor suffering animal. I have talked to many people & they are telling me similar stories. I must say the 1st time I went there the Dr. & staff were very nice. I will NEVER use them again & will continue to pass the word. They owe me a dog as far as I'm concerned, because they killed her by not treating her. I have posted on all dog sites & on Facebook regarding this.

Starting to see this place go down hill. Started bringing my dogs here 6 years ago and it was excellent, however, around 2-3 years ago I started noticing little changes taking place. Definitely have a locked and loaded wallet/purse when walking in, because you will need it when checking out. I have spent around $10,000 within 6 years here (yes several operations, which they always went fine), and they still nickle and dime you to death. Brought both of my dogs in for a recent check up, which one had loose stool, they wouldn't take a fecal sample, however, gave me a stool hardening medicine. Came home to find that in fact my dog has some kind of worm, so I paid for a med that my dog didnt need! Also, I buy my $82 per bag, need 2 a month, dog food from here. I was out of town once and they wouldn't send me the prescription so I could purchase while I was out of town! Very unhappy with this place recently. Disappointed to say the least!

Avoid this place if you love your pet. Two vets misdiagnosed my dog's illness, and within days, she was dead. You've been warned.

Sassafrassa

Terrible service. Seem to only be interested in making money. Called to leave a message to speak to a doctor but never heard back. Called again and had a receptionist giving me veterinary advice. Was told the doctors were too busy to call owners back. I've had pets all my life in different areas of the country and have always had vets that have cared enough to speak over the phone rather than waste both our times with an office visit. But an office visit is money in their pocket.

Megan Martin

It’s nice that they are open 24hrs but they wouldn’t give any advice without performing many expensive and intrusive tests.

We had out first ever emergency last night with our 10 month old deciding it would a great idea to run into traffic instead of coming in the house.. A girl friend of mine took her fur children here a few times over the years and suggested that we go here. I am so glad we did. Thank you for taking care of our Owen. We had Dr Tarosky and her lovely vet tech, who's name escapes me but she had short blond hair and purple scrubs on, treated us with amazing respect and love for our boy. The tech came in several times to update us and make sure we were okay, they gave us a private room where we could sit and be upset with no one watching. They did not over treat or under treat it was perfect. These two ladies were amazing for out O-man and for us. From the bottom of our hearts thank you. Oh, by some grace he got away with minor injures and he is home resting comfortably.

My girlfriend went to Cheat Lake Animal Hospital for a pre-neuter appointment for my cat with a voucher from a local spay/neuter charity. She has used a voucher in the past at Cheat Lake Animal Hospital, and called ahead to confirm that this voucher was accepted, just in case. She was assured that the voucher was accepted. When she showed up the morning of the appointment (keep in mind this is not a short drive for us, nor is scheduling and making an appointment easy with our schedules), she was sent to a room to fill out some paperwork and then wait for a vet. She was left in this room for 40 minutes. No one checked in on her. The place was clearly not busy; in fact, she was the only customer present. When someone finally came in to see her, she was told that the voucher would not be accepted. This is the same voucher that she called ahead to confirm would be accepted. Total waste of hours of our time. We will never be returning.

We've been taking our furbabies here for a couple years now. After 5 other vets couldn't figure out what was wrong with our vet, one of the ER vets here figured out that his liver was failing. Most of the vets are very caring and treat us with respect. No it's not the cheapest place in town, but we really trust our family in their hands. It's nice to have a one-stop place for regular visits, emergencies, and boarding.

We went to Cheat Lake Animal Hospital in a desperate attempt to save our precious Babygirl. My girlfriend has had this dog for 11 years and was her best friend. Unfortunately, on the way to the vet Babygirl passed away and we were too late. When we got there, they offered to do CPR and we accepted, but it was to no avail. We were grieving and already crying, but once the news hit us that she wasn't coming back we both burst into tears. They offered us an angel bag to take her home in and everyone there was insanely nice from the very beginning until the end. The receptionist came in to talk about billing, but unfortunately we had no way to pay for this visit. It was definitely an act of desperation. We didn't want to lose her, and I was willing to do anything at this point to keep her alive... To our surprise, they had decided to completely waive the fee from our visit. They even carried her out gently to our car and gave us a comforting hug for the road. It's been a day and we're still very heartbroken, but we are so, so very grateful for the people that helped us at Great Lake. Thank you so very much for everything you did, and it will not be forgotten. We will be returning here for future treatments with our animals if the need arises, and with money in hand. You guys are the best. Thank you, once again.

I can not stress enough or thank them enough for the passion and care they showed my daughter and me when we walked in with our max boy. He had suffered a real bad seizure and was 13 years old. He was in pretty bad shape and it was determined his quality of life wouldn’t be worth treating him. We couldn’t let him suffer. We decided to let him make his journey across the rainbow bridge. The Dr and her staff were so caring and empathetic to not only max but my daughter and myself also. I highly recommend them for their professionalism, caring of patients and owners and helping to make the process as easy and caring as possible. Thanks to them our boy is resting easy playing tug, running, digging and rolling in greener grasses. Thank all of y’all for making a very difficult decision easier. You don’t know how much you helped us today! I’m sure Max thanks y’all also

My dog Maloney has been going to CLAH since we got him over a year and a half ago. The most trusted place in the Morgantown area. I have read a lot of reviews but it goes quality over quantity when it comes to this place! Marjorie Rosmarin IS the best vet we have ever known. She truly goes above and beyond for her fur patients. 10/10

miguel Rosario

I haven't been yet praying i dont need to my dog is very sick may die and having been to other e.r vets cheat lake is the most affordable and worth the 70min drive to me. Really hate reviews cause some bad reviews can scare you away when the truth of what really happen is so much different. Reading 1 owner say they hurt thier dog being ruff the dog screamed sounds very bad and scary and i hope it didn't really happen. But sick dogs even non sick dogs can be very touchy and cry for very little reason and sometimes you have to be a little force full with dogs anyone thats every pilled a dog can tell you how much it sucks. So if your going to leave a review please say what happen and how you felt be 100% truthful

Major lack of communication here. Took my dog in to get stitches and within a day they had alll fallen out. The knots weren’t in a square knot, and for 30 minutes I listened to my dog cry in pain while 3 different people asked me if it was okay to give her pain medication, obviously I said yes. It was an awful experience all together.

I read a lot of good reviews and a couple of really terrible reviews about this place and was a little bit nervous about going to them, but they were the closest vet that was open in the middle of the night (even at an hour away). Long story short, we took our kitty there twice in the past couple of days; she had a c-section and was spayed. The hospital is very nice, the staff is courteous and professional, both vets were wonderful. The first trip, in the middle of the night, was very quick and efficient. We did have to wait awhile the second time, partly because we were walk-ins and partly because other animals needed treatment more urgently, but still were seen by a decent time. The vet went over our options - medically inducing or c-section - including the information about both, gave low and high estimates for both, explained the estimates, and answered all of my questions. And when it was all said and done, we actually paid less than the lower estimate. All in all, would definitely make the drive to get this kind of care for my pets. Thank you so much, CLAH.

Jessica Pearl

Great vet practice - we take our snakes here to see Dr. Jesse Fallon. He provides excellent care, always gives us options and realistic expectations for outcome. In the world of exotic reptiles, there can be a lot of confusion, and diagnoses are not very straightforward. Dr. Fallon’s expertise is considerable, and we trust him in all things reptile. The staff here is also first-rate. These folks really care about their patients and their patients’ people. I’d recommend them without reservation.

I am a dog bather and trainer. Cheat lake hospital will try and rip you off by telling you that you need some things that you really really dont need to have. If youre a rich id say theyll just love you!! But really over shots/micro/fleas chipping they have always been a bad experience for me and all my friends! I spent half the amount at hillcrest than my friend did at cheat lake. Dont go there! Be smart!!

I’ve had to use them for emergencies twice now, they are absolutely amazing. They go above and beyond to make sure your pet is taken care of and comfortable. All staff is nice and very informative. No matter how many questions you ask they answer them with no hesitation or attitude. Could not refer them enough! We have had such good experiences (literally have saved both my cats lives) that we are about to switch all of our pets (3 dogs 2 cats) over to them for their primary vet now. I can’t thank the staff enough for saving my babies and just being there for us. Absolutely amazing people!

I was visiting from out of town in Oakland. My dog developed bloat from out of nowhere! The Oakland emergency vet center took an hour to return my 3 calls only to refer me to Cheat hospital. I barely made it in time before my dog died. They were quick, fast and professional in diagnosing, prepping and even called in another surgeon to assist ( it was midnight at the time). Gave me a 30% chance my dog would survive the surgery due to his pre-existing heart condition. My dog survived!! The entire staff was kind, caring, supportive and even got me a credi line increase on my Care Credit card to cover the cost!! I love these people and owe my dogs life to them!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Well done!!

We brought our Husky Mix puppy Bones here after calling around on Christmas Eve to numerous vets. We got him Christmas eve brought him home to find out the poor little baby was riddled with worms. Their prices were quite low compared to other vet quotes we got over the phone and compared to the ones we've used in other areas. Our experience here was the best. Our wait was quite short, the vet techs and doctor spent a great deal of time answering all of our questions and concerns about our puppy. I will continue to use this vet office for our animal care. They put us on an excellent puppy plan, gave us excellent care and treated us as if we were family with love and respect. We appreciate all the time and care they gave us and will continue to give us in the future.

We picked Cheat Lake Animal Hospital because of their great reviews on Google and because of their 24/7 hour emergency care. When we brought my dog in as a puppy they offered us a puppy plan for a reasonable price. It covered three appointments and all the shots and medication he needed. A year later there came a time when we had to use their emergency care. They took our dog right in and gave him the greatest of care. I loved that they had all my dog's information already on file so they could get to his needs quicker. They also didn't over charge us for the emergency care that was given. Thankfully the incident was not serious, but the staff and the vet on call were so informative and helpful. Later we went back to have our dog neutered and they did a fantastic job. The surgery was under $200 and if my dog had any problems it gave me peace of mind that they were there 24/7. I'm a teacher and my fiancé is a nursing student so our budget is smaller than most. We always appreciated the reasonable costs for their services. I highly recommend Cheat Lake Animal Hospital. I will be taking my dog there for many years to come.

Love these people, Layla needed knee surgery , she's recovering nicely. Pgh vets wanted 1000.00 more, I couldn't be any happier with the Dr's and staff.

First, let me say that this review is for staff member "kaitlyn" This person is argumentative and nasty both in person and on the phone at every turn. She loves to inform you of what she considers her great credentials, however, a good dose of humbleness and caring for animals is what she really needs to study up on. If dealing with her for any reason at this location, ask for someone else to help your pet. Your visit will be much more pleasant and your pet better cared for.

Took my cat, Riley, in on Memorial Day with a urinary tract blockage (serious issue). I’ve always been nervous about having to take him to an emergency hospital instead of my usual vet. But, this place was great. He’s doing very well now; a week later. I hope I don’t need an emergency vet ever again, but if I do , it’s worth driving from Fairmont to Cheat Lake Animal Hospital. Great job, guys!

George was a small dog having neurological issues at the end of his life. Cheat Lake Animal Hospital provided him with the best of care. They were compassionate, loving and understanding. George had a good, long life. I am grateful for the doctors and staff at Cheat Lake and the much needed emergency services they provide.

I would recommend Cheat Lake Animal Hospital to everyone! Dr. Church is a god sent angel! She was amazing when we had to put our beloved dog down and if I could give her more then 5 stars I would! Thank you so much!

The first thing I was asked is what is your budget and how much can u spend. I said I don’t know 3 or 4 hundred dollars thinking that would cover most anything. (Witness present). I paid 516 dollars to tell me my dog would probably die within weeks.

Marinea Heindel

I’ve unfortunately had to come here more than I’d like to but every time I do, everyone is kind and understanding. The doctors are very clear about the procedures that need to take place and are good about prices and taking CareCredit. My little lizard and I are happy that this place exists.

Anthony Trozzo

They dont even get one star. Worst facility I've ever been to. we waited 6 hours still havent seen the vet. they didnt even have alot of animals to see. It was a waste of time and our animal is still suffering. They wanted us to wait another 4 hours. And charge us 160 dollars an hour to see our cat not including anything they had to do for him.. Unfortunately I have to give them one star just so i can post this

They're only worried about making money. They do not care about your animals.

Joseph Ross

Our family had to use this vet for the worst reason. Our dog, Brody, had to be put down late at night. They were very busy but never made us feel like they were. The staff individually and genuinely gave us their sympathy. The vet explained everything step by step and it made it very comforting. We will be forever grateful for their care and the lovely paw print remembrance.

I want to thank the Doctor's and staff for the wonderful job they did with my dog Layla. They are so understanding and kind with you and your pet. It didn't matter if you called to check on your pet at 9 am or 1 pm, they were always kind and helpful. I am so glad I took Layla there and she will always go there, they will be her new vet !! I would recommend them to anyone. Thank you again Cheat Lake Animal Hospital you are amazing !!❤️

TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS, DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE. Our dog Bentley had thrown up enough for us to be concerned and want him seen. We were quickly interviewed about what was going on, and then Bentley needed to be weighed. My husband and I watched in shock as the clerk roughly shoved Bentley around, and forcefully pushed down on his hind end to get him to sit on the scale. It made us both feel uneasy and we should have listened to our guts. Once we were taken back to an exam room, the vet tried to coax Bentley to come to her for no more than 2 minutes before getting impatient and saying it would be easier for her to just do the exam in the back. She took Bentley out of the room, and within moments we heard a loud shriek. Bentley can be pretty sensitive so we just ignored it. Then we heard another loud shriek, then another, then another, then another. We also heard what sounded like muffled scolding but I can't be sure. After the fourth or fifth shriek I got upset and loudly banged on the door. It was unlocked so I just opened it, and the vet was rushing to meet me, saying that every time she tried to take his temperature he just started "screaming." We decided to accept this explanation, but after a few moments he shrieked again, and we had enough. Once we got home I called another emergency vet. After explaining what happened to her (without mentioning where we went) she said to me, and this is verbatim "from what you're describing it sounds like you were at Cheat Lake." Anyone reading this, I urge you to find an alternative animal hospital. This place is dangerous.

On December 16, 2014, my husband's service dog, Crunch, collapsed at home & we rushed her to CLAH. She had eaten something bad & developed a blood coagulating disorder and was bleeding to death internally. Dr. Fallon performed surgery, she was given blood & plasma & other drugs and after one amazing battle, she recovered. We spent hours daily visiting her & praying over her & Dr. Partridge & her team did everything they could think of to save her. Every day she would ask, "Should we give up??" and we said NO. My son drove in from Ohio to pray over Crunch & after 5 days of intense treatment, she came home. Every person there was fighting along side us & they call Crunch their Christmas miracle. The CLAH team did a great job.

Jerri Lynn Hobson-Scott

They are always open, caring and mindful of how the pet feels and the owners. I love this staff and the Vets.

Maura McLaughlin

The staff are incredibly unfriendly. First, on the phone when trying to make an appointment, and then today trying to get vaccines for our dog. The tech was extremely pushy trying to sell me expensive meds we don't want and then snippy when I decided not to get the lyme vaccine. Then, my dog and I were left alone in a room for 40 minutes! Just waiting for someone to come give him shots. No updates, no apologies, on what was seemingly not a busy day. When I finally left the room to ask how long it was going to be as I needed to pick a kid up shortly, they said they didn't know and showed not the least bit of concern, and accused me of exaggerating my wait time. At this point I walked out. I will find a vet with staff that care and have some social skills. Pity as the facilities are very nice. To top off this experience at Cheat Lake, I just got the bill - $91.75 for a nail trim ($19.32), a heartworm test ($48.40), biohazard disposal ($9.54, for the nails?!), and office visit ($14.49). We never saw a doctor and the nail trim and heartworm test took all of 5 minutes (and his nails were not long to start with, I can't even see a difference). No one told me the cost of any of this beforehand. And we never even saw a doctor and got charged for an office visit. This place only cares about your money.

Alison Sarver

I was absolutely amazed at the care Koa received when we brought him in due to seizures. A tech on her way in to start her shift, still carrying her belongings, saw us sitting in the waiting room and immediately came over to begin treatment. The vet then spent at least fifteen minutes with us talking about every possible thing could have caused his seizures while truly listening and taking notes as we talked to her. After we had a treatment plan together and he was stable, the staff worked without hesitation to help us come up with a payment plan so he could spend the night under observation (for the record, their prices are extremely reasonable.) We left last night comforted knowing he was in great hands and were so excited to get the call this morning to come get our boy. We couldn't have asked for a more compassionate emergency vet and look forward to bringing him back for his routine care in the future. Koa sends lots of kisses and thanks!

Compassionate, caring, and very high-quality medicine

We took my dog, Sasha, there for a check up and her vaccinations. While she was there my husband had them clip her nails. When we brought her home we noticed her foot was bleeding from one of her nails. When we called to see if we could bring her in to have them take a look they told us it would be $130 to fix what I’m fairly certain was caused by them. She has never had any problems with her paws/nails before and it just seems strange that on the day they messed with them this would happen. My in-laws also took their puppy there a couple months ago to get her nails clipped and while clipping them they accidentally made the puppy bleed. They had blood all over the floor and the dog was crying and whimpering so this is not the first time our family has had a problem related to the nail trimmings.

I would never under any set of circumstances take my babies back to Cheat Lake Animal Hospital. All those people care about is draining your bank account. Every time they walked into the room to talk to me and my wife I had to sign another financial estimate. All they cared about was picking my pockets. The staff doesn't care about your pets and they are all on the same page as far as squeezing every penny out of you that they can. We took our four pound yorkapoo in for a case of gas and $562.00 later they had the nerve to point out that they were giving us a free bag of dog food on the way out the door! They charge $278.00 per dog for shots and we called around to three other places that only charge $80 for the same shot package. I don't normally take the time to offer my opinion or review in such matters but after getting taken to the cleaners by these cold, impersonal people I feel it's my responsibility to pass my experience on to others. Now we take our babies to Hillcrest where the staff cares about our babies and doesn't take advantage of our love for them. They are awesome!!!

Danielle Martin

I greatly appreciate the experienced, knowledgeable staff for their expertise as well as their compassion.

I’m giving 3 stars because I visited Cheat Lake Animal Hospital only once so my opinion could still be swayed. During this visit it was an emergency and wasn’t regular business hours so I’ll give them that one. Unfortunately I did have a pretty long wait and after finally having my pet seen and paying Hundreds of dollars they gave him some meds and recommended more medics treatment and an additional hundreds of dollars and recommended we have an additional test done in the next two days. My wife recommend we get an additional opinion from another vet, fortunately we did and for a SIXTH of the price a different vet checked out our pet and gave a simple antibiotic and diet change and our pet has been completely fine since. Now I get you’re located only a few minutes from some of the richest Morgantown residents but let’s face it a majority of people can’t afford some of your fees that may or may not be needed. Nevertheless, I see that staff is responding to some of the more negative comments and would ask that they respond to this review stating what they are doing to help gain more positive reviews. On multiple review areas such as yelp, google reviews etc. there are what I consider, a fair amount of negative reviews spanning every year. Now you can’t please everyone that’s just the facts but I also am not seeing a long duration of positive reviews before hitting another negative review. Many factors here but please let me/us know how you are dealing with these complaints, thank you.

Terrible. The receptionists do not know what they are doing, and some of them are quite rude. My rabbit was put down as a cat, so an appointment I had for several weeks was cancelled two hours before the appointment. When I did have the appointment, the doctor that saw me wasn’t even an exotic vet and knew almost nothing about rabbits. I brought my rabbit in for a spaying appointment, and they put me down as the wrong date, so I had to come back another day. For domestic animals, this place might be okay, I don’t know. But for exotics, run far, far away from this place.

Cheat Lake Animal Hospital why did you put me on a payment plan and take the initial $25 fee out on 8/14 to then take ANOTHER $186.66 out eleven days later when we owed you less than $200? You have me an estimate of $1,200-$1,600 for an emergency spay & I NEVER scheduled the procedure because that was an outrageous amount

I brought my 2 year old beagle mix here Sunday morning because of bloody vomit and diarrhea. They told me shortly after I brought her that she had HGE (a disease that occurs suddenly in healthy dogs and can kill them quickly if not treated). I was of course extremely panicked and worried but they eased my mine and said they see this a lot. They assured me that most dogs recover quickly after being admitted and that I didn't have anything to worry about. When I dropped off my dog she was in awful condition. Lethargic, in pain, and losing a lot of blood. After just one night stay they had her feeling brand new. I was amazed by how quickly she recovered. They truly treated Ava as one of their own and took amazing care of her. I could tell she loved all the techs and vets. It was clear she was in good hands. They're wonderful and I can't thank them enough for saving my baby!

Wasn’t very happy about my visit here. My puppy had a paw injury so I rushed him to cheat lake, in a panic because I was concerned, he seemed to be in pain & I was almost certain it was broken. We sat there for about 3 hours before anyone could even take him back to look at him. Finally after the long wait, someone came out & took him back to examin his paw. Within MINUTES he was brought back out & the lady said looked at me & said “his paw is fine, it’s not broken & his toenail will fall off by itself”. She didn’t seem concerned what so ever! They gave me an antibiotic & pain medication & sent me out of the door. I got home & my puppy still was whimpering & not walking right on his injured paw. The following morning I called our regular vet to get a second opinion because I just felt as if my dog was NOT examined throughly enough by Cheat Lake Animal Hospital. So with that being said we went to our appointment at our regular vet & he gave my pup an x-ray & examined his paw & was genuinely concerned. The X-ray results showed my pups paw was broken in 2 different places!!!!!!!!! Also he had to have surgery to get his toenail amputated & pulled out because it was pushing back on my dogs bone broken bone. It was also infected, which cheat lake didn’t even wrap it up or anything?????? I was charged $170 for sitting in their waiting room for 3 hours basically?? I have called Cheat Lake several times voicing my opinion on this & asking why I was told his paw was not broken & why my dog was not examined throughly enough?? I asked to speak with the manager for the past week & she has yet to call me back. I have called over 5 times & have gotten nothing back. I will never step foot in here again & I will never recommend this place to anyone. This place does not seem concerned about any animals well being & only seem to care about the money at the end of the visit. I think I at least deserve a phone call back & an explanation or apology?

Very Nice and Very clean, Professional Animal hospital. We had an urgent situation with our senior dog. They worked us right in. Very caring and professional staff. Reasonable rates as animal hospitals go. Thank you to the staff for you quick and efficient service. I highly recommend this facility if you are in need of an animal hospital.

My elderly dog was not feeling well and gave me a scare pretty late at night, this was the only vet open and I’m thankful for that. The staff was so thoughtful and gentle with my dog and covered all the bases to ensure there was nothing serious going on. Not only that, but they got all of his testing done in a timely manner and we were able to get out before it was too late. It was a really great experience!

Dr. Holly and her staff in the cat hospital are amazing. I'm a first time cat mom who stumbled upon an 8 week stray, they gave me plenty of info and support to help this kitty flourish into a cat.

Terrible service, do not care about customers or their animals

I drive 1 and 45 minutes, then I get to wait for nearly an hour and a half to actually see a vet. The vet offers to clean my dog's teeth and also see my other pet and I agree. They tell me to make an appointment. I try to make an appointment and get "there are no openings in forever but we will call you if we ever get one". (Why did you effing offer then?!?!) The desk staff are sweet, always new, and completely daffy. In march after an extended ($330.00) visit I went out to my car and removed my hair covered jacket got my wallet and went back in. The same lady who checked me in asked who I was and if I wanted to check in? (Facepalm) In the past few years I have never seen the same vet twice, and the vets that see my pets apparently can't access the records to see what the previous vet has done. They once gave my poor dog an extra rabies shot after I told them NOT to. So he got 2 rabies shots in about 18 months. The emergency phone service is pretty much useless. They wouldn't work with me over the phone but insisted I drive my pet 90 miles in a raging snowstorm to be seen. (I didn't want to die so I googled a rehydration formulas for dogs-it worked) Basically that place is a total cluster! I have spent in the region of $10,000.00 at this place in the past 5 years and I have about had it! The only reason I have stayed this long is I have come across several really good vets.

This place is horrible! All they care about is money and wanting to put my dog to sleep! They told us she would die before she made it home. I’m so glad we used our own judgment with our dog! She is doing great and is back to her normal self. It is heartbreaking to think that she would be gone if we listened to them. They ordered her some meds, and the prescription didn’t even exist. Thank goodness Walgreens worked with us. If Walgreens wasn’t so great, we would have had drive all the way back (which is a drive for us) just to get the right prescription written. I will never take any animal there again!

My boyfriend and I had to visit recently because our cat seemed to be coughing/hacking really badly and was lethargic. When we brought her in, they made sure she was stable and breathing okay. We had to wait four hours to be seen by a vet, but we came in on a Sunday evening. I'd say that seems pretty understandable given that there arent any vet hospitals open on Sundays. Our vet was courteous and helpful and answered all of our questions. I've been to emergency vets that have coffee for clients before, wish that they had had some since I had to drive home pretty far after the visit. Overall, I'm satisfied with the visit. Thanks for helping us out. Our cat is doing much better now.

Saved my best friends life. Worked with me financially too. Great people.

They took in my loved cat even thou she had no known medical record. Was heartbreaking to find out however that she had a rare form of fast-acting cancer. . .but thanks to them she felt fully at ease and loved in her final minutes. They even made sure that i was ok and well during this entire time. They understood everything i was going through and made sure i was at ease. Even taking the extra steps as to how i want her ashes spread and about the extra kitty-paw print . . .which they didnt charge for. I can never thank these blessed souls enough. . .even thou my princess couldnt be with me now, they helped me and her move on and accept terms of reality. I recommend anyone who has a loved furry member of their family to trust these people. They arent a business, they are angels helping families stay together or to stay happy and loved. Thank you Nicole. . .for everything - The Hawkins Family

I think the staff is amazing and always helpful but recently I took my baby there for an emergency visit. Was told she is basically terminal and to keep her comfortable this was approx 2 weeks ago. I called today for a refill on her vetprofen (which just an nsaid) and I was told I could make an appt or bring her in for an emergency visit because she would need bloodwork before she could get medicine.. . REALLY ARE YOU THERE TO MAKE MONEY OR TAKE CARE OF ANIMALS. My baby is sick and dying I could care less about what her bloodwork shows! Not sure what doc is working today but you should be ashamed of yourself for just trying to take money from people.

Did an amazing job with my fur puppy

Just had a terrible experience here that taught me that they do not care about animals here, only money. Took my dog to get her nails trimmed and later that evening we noticed that her nail and foot were bleeding pretty badly. She has never had foot or nail problems before this so I called cheat lake to have them look at the foot and help her out to not be in pain since I believe it was the trimming that caused the injury to begin with. I was told that I would be charged another 130 dollar charge for them just to look at her foot. So after charging me 120 dollars for vaccinations and nail trimmings earlier that day, that night they wanted to charge me 130 to help her not be in pain from their mistake. Do not trust your family pets in this place. Go to a place that actually cares about animals. I will never go here again.

They don't seem to really care about my pet I am looking for other vet place to take my reptiles. I've been there twice and it was OK nothing I would recommend.

We had to take our elderly adopted puppers here last week, he was in very rough shape. The staff were compassionate and very professional. They are a bit pricey, but veterinary medicine isn't funded at all like human medicine and vet hospitals rely solely on services paid. They did right by us and I am so grateful for that.

We recently took our dog to see Dr Rosmarin for a joint problem. While she was doing the exam, she found a tumor under our pet's ear and as it was new and had grown rapidly, recommended looking at the aspirate. We were shocked to hear it was tumor cells and quickly scheduled surgical removal by another doctor. The evening we brought her home, we found another tumor on the same ear. It also required surgery in a couple weeks, this time done by Dr. Fallon. We appreciate these doctors help very much and hope that all is well now. Thank you Dr Rosmarin and Dr Fallon!

Great hospital and very caring doctors and staff. Highly recommended to any one needing care for their animals. 5 stars

We had one visit here and we decided we would never come back. They sedated my dog for an xray, and whatever they used to sedate him had a very negative psychoactive affect on him. No one informed us that the effects of the sedation would include extreme sensitivity to sound, paranoia, elevated heart rate and breathing, as well as fear of darkness. Nearly a year later my dog still has occasional flashbacks. My dog would have been fine and able to have x-rays without a sedative, and if he did need one they should have informed us of the possible side effects and/or offered a second choice.

NEVER TAKE EXOTICS HERE FOR BOARDING! We came back to a rat with discharge coming out of ears and nose, skin and bone, obviously unhealthy, and we're now dealing with going straight to the vet. They claim that they didn't notice anything, despite losing several ounces. There's no coordination between boarding staff and front desk, so any question took ten to twenty minutes to answer. This review is only if the boarding, and they have offered a free check up, but the fact that it got this obviously bad is disgusting.

I'll start off by saying that I've brought multiple dogs and a macaw here over the past couple of years, since we moved to the area. The service was okay for a time until recently. 9 weeks ago my red heeler gave birth to 6 puppies, a couple of weeks before do we brought her in to get xrays done to see how many we were expecting and also for a general check up. They charged 300 dollars which wasnt unreasonable and told us that there were 3 puppies... except there weren't 3 puppies there was 6. On top of that one of the things we were told during our visit was that the 24/7 staff would be able to follow thru on any questions we may have regarding our dog and her delivery. I called and had a question about her throwing up and instead of giving me any bit of helpful insight about weather or not I should bring her in, the receptionist ducked the question entirely and said that it wasnt something she could or couldnt recommend over the phone. I understand legal liability but I could picked up the phone, blindly dialed any phone number and gotten an equally helpful answer. Now for the real reason I'm leaving this review: Same dog was running about out in the woods this morning and ended up having a branch/stick lodged in her 6in from the lower portion of her chest to her abdomen. Rushed her here and they told me she was going to need surgery which I was certain of already, the grand total was $2300-3100 estimated. Not an issue, i signed the paper work and was prepared to leave them $300 in cash so I could go to an atm and pull out the rest because I didnt happen to walk out of my house and grab $1000+ in cash before I left to rush my dog to the vet. They told me they would not start the surgery until I gave them half of the estimated cost right then and there and wouldn't allow me to go and get more money until I had. Now i can understand if I'd never been there before or if I hadn't left them with any money at all, but that's not the case. What added insult to injury was (no pun intended) the insinuation that I couldnt afford to pay my bill the embarrassment that comes with having to make a phone call to get it covered so I could get my dog the helped that she needed; and that I was treated like some random person who they didnt know if they could trust, which is ironic considering they have been spotty at best as far as trustworthy reliable service so far. I will update this once this has concluded but I can tell you right now they have lost my business moving forward, I'm switching back to my old vet (grace animal hospital, remarkable people who truly care) which is over 40min away from where I live now. I've been breeding heelers on and off for over a decade and will be sure to tell every single person I know family, friend and otherwise about this experiance so hopefully I can save them from the embarrassment and the feeling of emotional extortion I just went thru with cheat lake animal hospital.

I went there with my Guinea pig, Squirrel, who I suspected had a URI. The wait time was not bad at all, considering I was a walk in and did not have an appointment. The doctor was actually knowledgable in Guinea pigs and understood what we could afford. We couldnt afford an xray or a culture swipe of the bacteria, so she prescribed me medicine that is generally used for the infection. She was kind to my Guinea pig as well (my old vet was not so it was very nice to see her enjoying Squirrel).

Krista Broschart

Do not go to this vet they do not care about the animals. I went here when it was an emergency for my dog. They said i couldnt bring her inside even though it was so hot outside and she was sick. i explained to them that i had no air conditioning in my car they still refused. I brought her in anyway becouse i refused to let her sit out in the heat. They said i couldnt let her walk on the ground so i held her. Then they put us in a room for 2 hours and didnt see if she was ok or anything. When the vet tech finally came in they said she could have parvo. I knew that wasnt the case becouse she doesnt go outside. I dont let her around other animals and i take her to my regular vet for check ups all the time. They said they couldnt do anything for her unless i got her tested. I told them she is up todate on her parvo shot and even then they said they couldn't help. I was so mad i left and went to another vet who then said she was just dehydrated and stressed becouse of traveling.

They charged very fairly for the treatment of my exotic pets, but you have to make sure that they doc who treats them is in. I went in for an emergency treatment. Facility is clean and efficient.

Natasha Celli

They were kind, patient, and understanding, they answered all my questions, showed me step by step how to give medication and IV fluids under the skin. I had 2 dogs, Diesel, not one vet would see him immediately they would only schedule him an appointment, he died the day before that appointment. I called the vet and told them and said now my second dog is sick they scheduled him an appointment knowing my first dog died. I found Cheat Lake through Google we rushed there and they took Duke no appointments, no waiting. He had Parvo, they worked with us with the payment because we couldn't afford it, it wasn't a long time but it was time. They gave us everything we needed and Duke is alive and well today thanks to them. We found out what was wrong in 10 minutes, they were quick, respectful, and Duke just loved all of them. My sister took her dog Preston there a month ago, we went 2 months ago. Preston caught Parvo and everything was the same for her, Preston is also alive because of them. When no one would see our beloved puppys they took them without an appointment. If i had found them sooner Diesel would also be here today too, he'll always be in my heart, and I'll never forgive the 5 vet offices who wanted to schedule him an appointment for days later. Thank you Cheat Lake for helping save Duke and Preston. If ever again Duke or Preston or one of my cats has an emergency you will get to see us again. <3 we do have a vet now we use for regular appointments and shots because it is cheaper but they aren't open 24/7 and you may never know when you will need a vet to save your pets life. Ill be forever greatful to CLAH.

I had a wonderful experience. my regular vet was not in and my 17 year old cat with renal failure took a turn for the worse at 8 pm on a sat. they took the cat right in and checked him out to make sure he was stable. the vet (Andrea garton) spoke with me and explained the treatment plan in detail. she also worked with me to modify the plan to make the cat stable until I could get to my regular vet. the vet tech (tabitha) was very Informative and kind. the price was no more than I would have paid for my regular vet. if you have an emergency this is the place to go for 24 hour care. easily located also.

Bryanna Stuchell

I paid a couple hundred dollars to have my dog allergy tested by this place. This test confirmed she has allergies. Now I want to order the immunotherapy shots and the doctor is requesting me to bring her in again because they are not sure she has allergies even though the tests ordered through this place confirmed it. She has been on Apoquell and ran out and broke out really badly so it's definitely allergies. Really disappointed by this place. Seem to keep wanting me to come back in for check ups and apoquell rather than getting me a long term solution. I also moved 3 hours away so coming in is super impractical for me.

Robin Crawford

They are great !!

Called today after my beagle cut through her entire skin by her armpit I was told to come down and they would get her right in. After having to drive an hour to get there we were told it was going to be a 5 hr wait. Ridiculous!!! I’m probably grateful though because I can just imagine the the bill I would have received from there.

Staff very friendly! Although my initial estimate was a bit high, they were more than willing to work with me on the price for my emergency situation.... I brought my cat there in a box bc he didn’t fit in the pet carrier I had, and bounus they had an old one laying around and sent him home in it so he’d be more comfortable. Great place.

Excellent service ,Super nice staff, very professional. 665.00 for blood work, x rays, medicine,,diagnostic and explanation of what was happening and what to do along with the emergency appointment fee and they are always in 24 / 7. They were there for my baby boy when my vet of 31 years wasn't. The staff was very polite and helpful. They helped me get instant online credit by Care Credit which I would not have known about without their help. I can't thank them enough for the help for my dog who is a service dog and the peace of mind that they gave me with the knowledge and experience they shared with me. Thanks so much and thank you for being there.

This will be the last time my family take a pet to this place. Today the vet was ride to my wife. She made my wife feel as though we don't take care of our dog just because he hadnt had vaccines in awhile. Obviously if we didn't we take care of or care for him we wouldn't have taken him there. He has had diahrea for a week now. The vet didn't offer any possible causes, just a lot of medication. Maybe the reason we don't bring him often is because they try to offer a bunch of unnecessary treatments in order to jack the price up. She was snippy about us not bring a stool sample, when they never told us to. She refused to check his teeth and made my wife open his mouth. My wife explained that he has never bit anyone, but still wouldn't do it. She said he would probably have to have all is upper teeth pulled, seriously?!? He doesn't have mouth pain. We believed he may have an ear infection, so We asked her to check his ear. When she checked he helped, and said that was normal for small dogs. He just started acting this way recently. The moral of the story is they wanted nearly 500 dollars for an upset stomach, offered no solution to his ear, or even his diahrea other then a bunch of meds. We won't be going back there again. She made my wife feel terrible and that won't happen again. Too many other options around this area.
