This wasn't my regular vet. I had to get my dog treated immediately. A dog attacked him. They got him right in and doctored him up very well. They even had to put a drain in his leg from one of the bites. They did a great job at a reasonable price and my dog loved them!

Kristin Eberly

I was very impressed with the physical therapist. His caring and compassionate evaluation of my elderly injured dog helped me know that the difficult decision I ultimately made was the right one. If I ever have need for canine PT in the future, Sumner Vet will be my first stop.

Mary Rinear

We are very happy with the care given to our pets. Our vet, Dr. Nelson and her associates are very caring and concerned for our pets and us.

Great service, price and total experience

I love bringing my dogs here!! I was taking my dogs to a different vet and came here on the advice of a friend. It was the best change. The front desk staff is awesome, the techs are amazing, and I love the vets!!! My dogs and myself are always treated great.

Front staff could be more friendly and informative. I went in as it was after hours- my cat had struvite crystals, they told me they were taking him back for vitals. Hour and half later they bring him out and explained the procedure performed. I would have liked to been informed what was going on. Other issue I had was requesting my insurance form be completed as it has to be completed by the veterinary only. Receptionist was clearly annoyed and after multiple attempts to collect, I received the needed form. A few days later I took my cat into his regular vet as he couldn't walk. Poor cat was bruised so badly from the procedure. Wish he would've been given pain relievers when I was there, instead I had to pay another fee to visit a vet.

My dog king was I'll the doctors did everything to help him he was 15 years old when it was time to make the decision to put him to sleep the doctors let me stay with him as long as I want they did not rush me out it was nice to spend the last hour with him and they treat him with respect went it was over . Yes I would recommend summer also my dog stay at the lodge for a month and I was able to call every day to see how he was doing and they took a picture of him and send it to my email.

Love this clinic, convenient, caring, great staff

We've had such great care for our dogs at Sumner Veterinary Hospital. We've been taking our pets there since 1990. Every doctor we've seen has had extreme loving care to give our dogs. Ranging from puppy age to senior and into death, our pets have gotten the very best care from all of the vets. We, the pets' companions, have also gotten loving care. Last week we were faced with the excrutiatingly difficult decision to put our beloved girl down. The vet that attended with us was so gentle and loving to both my husband and me and our dog. The best care can be gotten in Sumner.

If I could give them a "-5" I would. I had taken my Female Dog into the Emergency vet for a cough. The Doctor was awful, she guessed at the diagnosis was incompetent never came back in when I needed to ask questions, and when I called back "accused me" of being rude to her staff so she hung up on me. I was nothing but cordial, but I will say frustrated I could not give the medication prescribed, and my pup would not eat it in what they call "yummy" foods. I had spent $600.00 at this vet who was deceitful, saying they needed to take "a" X-ray, then took three, without my knowledge at $150.00 each, and when I said something about it she said she would take one off but never did. I don't mind paying whatever it is, but at least be up front with your costs. When I asked her for another liquid form, she told me "there was none", it was an antibiotic that I checked was in a liquid form, and when I called they said to me "you can bring her in for a re-evaluation even though, I was there 4 days ago, and explaining she was not getting any of her medication was not a red flag she just needed to get a med that worked. I would say "DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS TO THIS EMERGENCY VET" they are only out for your money!! They have rude and incompetent staff that are unable to answer questions and the doctor seems to be to busy to explain her treatment plans, Stay away from this vet. I am contacting the Better Business Bureau, tomorrow to fill out a complaint on this "so called Company",

What an amazing facility! Everyone us helpful, friendly, polite, animal centric and able to deal with is crazy dog moms Lol. The staff and services at Sumner Veterinary Hospital will be hard to replace now that we have relocated. I will miss them all as will Jackson and Humphrey!!

Lorinda Grant

Sumner Vet Hospital is open for scheduled appointments as well as for emergencies. The last time we visited I was completely out of control as my dog had gotten ahold of an "ant stake". They were calm and explained what was going to happen. They were very professional and reassuring. Fortunately, my dog did not need any intervention but I always know they are there in an emergency!

John Brengle

Well organized practice. Appointments start on time. They love my dogs!

robyn beach

I love that they have a 24 hour emergency clinic, and I can bring my dog in any time I need to. The staff are always very friendly and helpful and my Ozzy actually likes it there!

Jamee Doolin

Everyone in this building is compassionate and professional! They will honestly communicate all of your options, positive or heartbreaking, and work with you to make the best decisions for your pets care.

Our experience was not a good one here. Our dog is 4 years old, very sweet, very mild mannered and has never been sick. We have never boarded her before this. We dropped her off. I called 3 days later to ask how she was, they said great. I reminded them during that call to notify us of ANY change with her. We picked her up a day early to be told she was having diarrhea, the vet saw her, gave her medicine and said she was fine. I was not happy to not receive a call to let me know if her change, as several things could cause this to happen....nerves, diet change or a medical issue. Regardless, we deserved a call. The front desk acted as if it was no big deal. I proceeded to tell them that I was the owner and deserved a call in case I felt like having her picked up early. Once they brought her out and we got in the car, we noticed she had her feces in her hair. On her face, paws, and bottom. I chose standard care which didn’t include grooming but to NOT wash her off is ridiculous! Again, a call to ASK if I wanted it done, would of been nice. I took pictures, so if there was an option to post, I would. I get her home to bathe her to see fleas in her hair, which I took pictures of, too. My dog has spent the last 24 hours not acting like herself, struggling with diarrhea and scared. Not happy and after giving them almost $300. Do not choose boarding here.

Missed Diagnosed my French bulldog, the answer I got was, we can keep giving him different test. After watching my dog go through pain I figured out he has a pinched nerve in his neck on my own. They gave him anti-seizure meds for a pinched nerves in his neck. The only reason I had to go here was because of a emergency, there are better vets. I never complain about price but if I’m paying top notch pricing I expect top notch service. You won’t get it here!

Dr. K is outstanding and very knowledgeable! He has helped our family kitties and helped solve medical issues with our German Shepherd Patches. She has been a doggie patient for over 9 years and gets lots of TLC. We highly recommend Dr. K and the Sumner Vet Clinic staff; they are great to both our loved pets and the pet owners! :-)

Daniel Walsh

Dropped off our 14 year old long hair cat to be shaved. She needed to be anesthetized for them to proceed. Picked her up later that same evening. She for some unknown reason could barely walk when we got home. At 1st I thought she just needed time to recover from the drugs. But 2 weeks later and she can still barely walk. She hasn't been the same since this was done. I believe they nicked a nerve when administering anesthesia but I don't know. She also has a large cut on her tail that needs healing from an obvious gouge from them shaving her. I don't believe she'll ever recover. Overall this was a way more expensive trip than just the money. So sorry we chose Sumner Vet for this procedure.

Chris Blackburn

What can I say? These amazing doctors saved my dog's life when she was six years old and diagnosed with AIHA. Prognosis was poor, but because of their treatment and watchful care, she eventually made a complete recovery. I can't thank them enough for giving our family an additional four years with our beloved Cinderella...

Tai Harris

We took our Boston terrier for the first time. It was a great experience. The first thing i noticed was how clean the place was. The staff there were very helpful during our first visit. I would refer any of our family or friends to this place.

John Kuchera

Not sure what the bad reviews are about, I had excellent service from everyone there. I’m guessing that some people get a little particular/crazy about their pets and if they aren’t treated like some sort of royalty then things aren’t going to go well. Brought our puppy in on a Sunday for an eye infection and a bad cough and he’s improving already.

Bonita Magnant

Wonderful Veterinary Hospital. My dog is always very well cared for and the people are all super nice. Thanks for the great care!

Kelly Carrier

I like the doctors but the front desk gals at night are unprofessional they act like they don’t really know what they’re doing. I paid for the service and not even 30 min later as I’m driving home the gal calls me about the bill asking for more $$$. I told her I was prepared to pay $1800 while I was there and she told me they’ll collect the $500 that night as I paid for and collect the remaining when service is completely done. She acted like she didn’t know what she was doing very unprofessional to me. Don’t say one thing and then call me 30 min later to ask for more but then say $500 was totally fine. They need to get their act together. The veterinarian assistant with the medium length dark bob who I worked with the past 2 days she’s not sincere about her job, wasn’t listening to what I was asking for from the doctor kept repeating the lab results will come back in a week. I wasn’t talking about that. I wanted a summary from the Dr as to what him and I had discussed regarding the findings, x-rays, and further treatment. It’s very crucial a employee listens carefully to the patients parents needs. My cat was diagnosed with cancer and she doesn’t seem at all a fit to be a veterinarian assistant there’s no heart in what she does. She behaved very inappropriately last night while I was checking my cat out she came to grab the next patient but they had left, cake back out again for the next and they weren’t in the waiting room. So what she does throws her hands up in the air while other patients in the room and said “Good, that makes my job less complicated” and rips up the paperwork for all to see. With those 2 gals experiences I wouldn’t go back. Their professionalism is very tacky and it’s like I was just a number. This is an emergency clinic during the day especially at night where fur babies parents are struggling with emotions sadness finances and big concerns while these two behave like “oh well” with no care no professional matter. To them they’re working for the dollar that’s all that matters to them. I plan on reporting this to the higher authority of this clinic. The doctors need to understand what kind of staff they have working at night.

Jamie Hensley

Inexpensive xray. Nice staff. Very professional.

Alexander Vasen

Been taking my dogs here for years. Always honest and trustworthy. Great comprehensive care available for your loved ones and a 24 hour emergency service to boot. I've never boarded my dogs here, but I wouldn't hesitate if I needed to.

Julia kaas

Each staff member was compassionate and professional. My dog had to have emergency surgery, so I was very emotional. I appreciated the fact that my options were explained well and I was not pressured during my decision process. Our dog received excellent quality care. I am truly grateful!

Carol Beard

I loved bringing my dogs to the Sumner Vet. Everyone was always so caring & they all loved the pets. I moved out of the area in March, 2014. I moved to the Atlanta, GA area. Sadly, I have needed to put both of my little doxies to sleep. Ginger in May of 2014 with major back problems, and Jesse 10 days ago with a very large stomach mass. I.appreciate all the care and nurturing you provided when grooming, caring for in daycare or boarding, or when we saw the vets. Thank all of you very much.

William Ready

Eric Nelson has provided exceptional care for our older dog. She quickly and accurately diagnosed an issue that had befuddled two other vets. Her remedy was spot on. Her compassion and knowledge and incorporation of Eastern and Western techniques has made the difference in our dog’s quality of life.

Wesley Jones

The facility does not have the appearance of a high overhead establishment the staff is focused attentive and friendly veterinarian took her time examining my dog probably the most impressive thing is how informative she was and how she explained important ways of taking care of my dog and the maintenance aspect

kaitlyn gablehouse

Staff was very helpful in getting my Frenchie checked out with a serious environmental allergies. Between wrestling a nervous dog and a very busy 1 year old, my hands were full to say the least. The staff was kind, thoughtful and patient with us.

Christine Metzler

We've been going to Sumner Vet for the life of our pup, nearly 13 yrs and we love it. They offer a huge variety of services... the only reson I didn't give 5 stars is beause they're a little pricey (but we'll continue to pay

Keith Cuthbert

Summer Vet Hospital & Lodging is the top of class facility. Second to none... I have boarded my 14 year old lab here for the last 10 years & the service is absolutely spectacular... She gets super excited when we arrive in the parking lot for lodging/grooming/health check & is always happy when I pick her up... Life of a dog couldn’t get any better...

Linda Kirkham

When my beloved dog crossed over the rainbow bridge, Sumner Veterinary Hospital showed tremendous compassion and professional care for her. They took exceptional care of her in her later years and gave us the time we needed to gently say goodbye. I am thankful for their thoughtfulness.

Jodie Hanesworth

The kennel staff is very caring and professional. I feel free to leave town knowing that my furry kids are in good hands!

Teresa Davis

Horrible and extremely expensive... After over a $1,000 bill we still don't know what's wrong with our 3 year old cat. She's never been sick before and now she's vomiting, won't eat or drink and is to the point where she's so lethargic and weak she can barely move. They did blood work and an x-ray and said everything looks fine ... That's it! Well, she died on Sunday 6/30/2019, only days later and now were stuck this vet bill that told us absolutely nothing.

Lisa Kane

Great veterinary services, daycare and boarding. My dog has been going to Sumner Veterinary Hospital since he was a puppy. I highly recommend it!

Jerry Kinsey

Very professional , the people there are kind and caring . everyone there seems to go the extra mile to help . I have already recommended Sumner Vet. to friends .

KarmaTCB

Had a great experience here. Dr. Van Meren was very highly educated and knowledgeable. She was very helpful during a stressful time with our pup. I highly recommend going here for emergencies or even your every day care, the rest of the staff were just as helpful as well!

Jason Wolfe

Thank you so much for helping my fur baby quickly when she was in pain from colliding with an SUV! Thank you so much! She is getting better really fast now.

E Weisenfeld

I guess no "perfect" vet clinic exists, but I really like these folks. Easy to work with and dog is happy and healthy again.

karisa kelley

I had to bring my dog into the ER! The people and doc we’re so caring and attentive. She had to have emergency same day surgery and the doc called me 3 times with updates about my dog’s condition! ❤️❤️ I am so thankful for her kindness and Caring!!!!

Andy Andrews

I sat in a room with my poisoned dog for 2 hours just to have the vet tell me the same exact thing that the vet assistant told me. As my dog was absorbing whatever he ingested, we waited for 2 hours before any tests were ran or anything was done. Absolutely unacceptable bedside manner and urgency.

S Davis

You will never meet veterinarians more caring and responsive to it's clients. They are very straight forward with all the recommendations and treatments. They are the best. A very big thank you for all your help with our animals.

Jeri Wakefield

This is the greatest place. Everyone is always friendly and helpful. Our dog Kort loves all his friends at daycare. They are awesome!!

Nadia childs

I would NOT RECOMMEND THIS VET . The LACK of professionalism, customer service, compassion & assistance I received for my family dog, is beyond anything I have experienced with a vet before. The vet is supposed to be compassionate caring and helpful with something so personal. Dr. Jennifer Bronk was extremely rude, unprofessional, and didnt seem to even want to try to help me with my pet. She was more concerned with my finances and if i was able to pay for any information she might give me. YES. She asked me About money directly before she even knew what i needed. She made me feel so uncomfortable as if i was a waste of time unless i had something to offer her. I was so disgusted and insulted by her demeanor and rudeness . I chose not to have her services and asked for my dog so i could get out of there as quickly as possible. She then proceeded to argue with me and began to be combative and defensive. I was so uncomfortable and just in complete shock by my experience. I still cant believe someone would employ someone like this for such a personal position. I can nit speak for the other Dotors or employees here. She was my first and last interaction with this place.

Ryan Green

My 125 pound rottweiler broke his paw. I was unable to get him out of the car by myself to wait inside. We had to wait in the car, in the night, for over 2 hours before anyone would come and assist. They finally had a tech who did nothing to assist, but did she didask me how long that big lump on his leg has been there...Well at least 2 hours now.. She proceeded to force him to walk inside while he cried in pain. Real compassionate there..I wouldn't take my dog here again.

S C

I was in there to complain one day and there was a gal there screaming at the receptionist because they had let a vet near her dog that was causing seizures on her dog, well I complained, nothing got better, I had to take my girl to the e.r. one night after more than one bad experience there but I had no choice. Instead of doing her job she's in the room arguing over the bill and demanding money before she touched her n in an emergency. My little girls dead, I blame them theyretrechid horrid humans that how there in the 5 star rating quality shocks me. I use to work in a grooming shop n never heard good about them, the only ones that were even partially happy with them were the ones spending big bucks on them for theyret regular vet. Which I find appalling the area only has one e.r. n itsi a bunch of ego ridden a holes that don't have the skills to back it up. I only have more negative to say about that facility from a went there for a working interview perspective but I won't include that except the only positive, they employee that was with me in the daycare with the small dogs he was wonderful, if all the staff was more like him it would be nice. They called me about a job, I told them to toss my application, I won't work around them, working in the grooming shop I had already seen anough bad, there was no way I was going to start working someplace else no better, and theyre psychology about animals was written by someone that doesn't know dogs at all and idk about other animals. I consider them abusive. They should really have a review system set up for each division of that place, I don't get how theyret ratings are so high I never once have heard good about that place.any convocation about there is negative, even my own opinion.

Ryan Herrera

There are services I would recommend and services I would not recommend (from a cost standpoint only). The staff are great and will go the extra mile. For example, I work 24-hour shifts and had to board my dog after daycare closed on days I worked. Because he didn't handle the boarding well and began losing weight, one of the staff took my dog home and brought him back to work with her the next morning. I can't think of any place that would do the same. Their staff truly care about the welfare of your animal. The vets seem to change fairly often but regardless they've always taken great care of my dogs over the years. The cost of boarding services has increased a lot over the years and I feel it's a bit extreme so I've started using another business for boarding (less than half the cost). I understand Sumner Vet has to charge what they do to maintain a wage/benefit package for their employees but it's an added cost I personally have to avoid. The cost of Daycare services has also increased over the years and is also a bit extreme but is a necessary evil given my work schedule and access to day time care for my dog. A 20 daycare pass is roughly $22.50 a day. Why still a 4-star review? Their staff are truly incredible and the supervisor will work with you if there's a special need/circumstance (you just need to ask). If money was no object (which unfortunately it is for most people), my review would easily be 5 stars.

Sylvia Betts

I have had 3 black cats that have been treated lovingly at Sumner Vet Hospital. Unfortunately they were all rescue kitties and had different issues and eventually had to be put to sleep but these vets are so caring even then. The hours are also the most convenient for working people, even for emergencies.

Orion KW

Super fast, genuinely nice people, super confident vets and vet techs, and really cheap as far as emergency services go.

Donna Dragoo

My Lab ended up having a bad ear infection due to allergies. They were always very nice and caring when we went in. His ears were so bad it took a couple of months to get them back to normal. I appreciate all they did. The groomer there also does an awesome job.

Kelly McGinnis

I especially like the different care available here like acupuncture and rehab. I've used the emergency services several times and have been very happy with the care received.

Alice Larson

Our border collie mixed breed always had anxiety at the veterinarian office and was a terrible patient until we found Sumner Veterinary Hospital. The veterinarians and the staff at Sumner Veterinary Hospital are patient with our dog and very loving and he feels comfortable there. Getting shots and being poked and prodded is no longer a commotion; it is just a normal trial and very doable. Our experience has been so positive that we now bring two cats and a bearded dragon to this location.

Brad Doll

Sumner Vet is full of the most caring and experienced people I have encountered. Our dog Missy was a rescue, a black lab mix. We got her in 2002. Sumner Vet did the initial exam and fixed her, and did all the shots. We took her back about once a year for exams, always very professional and courteous staff. As she got older, she had a few health issues. Again, I was always happy with the course of treatment. When we had to have her put down last year, they were so compassionate. They explained everything to us, and gave us as much time as we needed with her. We're not quite ready for another dog, but when we are, they will be our vet!

Stacie Zane

I take both of my dogs here. It is a great place. The waiting room does not smell bad. I love Dr. Zawadzkas. She is super nice and really cares about my dogs. I also love that they are 24/7 for any emergencies. The counter staff is fabulous.

Moraelin Schlenker

Amazing staff, great environment for pets (and humans! Lol)

Terra De Mars

We used to go to another local vet, both the dog and the cat would get scared every time we went. At sumner they are very relaxed and happy. No anxiety about being there at all. The staff is great. Our full time vet now!

Erica Woods

Sumner Vet is wonderful! The employee's always have smiling faces. They are happy and friendly, along with having great customer service. We have used their boarding facilities as well and our dog always leaves looking happy! I highly recommend Sumner Veterinary.

A Google User

I have had positive experiences with the Veterinarian. The front desk girls are awesome. But, my favorite is the grooming. My dog is always excited to be there and I’ve never been disappointed. Also, the grooming fees are very affordable

wisam albubseeree

I’m not sure why all this negative comments for. I have seen one of the faculty members Dr.Art and he treat pets really well, so I think most of the faculty member are like him. I really recommend this place.

Suzanne Chinn

I brought. Cloud my cat in. They took xrays and found liquid in her lungs and heart.. We knew that we had to put Cloud to sleep in order to stop her from suffering anymore. The doctor and every one there were very comforting and understanding of my husband and my feelings. They did everything they could to make things a little easier for us. They gave us all the time we needed to say goodbye. Just being able to hold Cloud and cuddle with her and tell her we love her meant a lot to us. We know we did the right thing for Cloud, but we still miss her terribly. They have everything at their fingertips when it comes to finding out what is going on with their clients. I highly recommend them.

Shawna Moore

The service provided by the staff is amazing. They really go the extra mile and seem to genuinely care about your pets. This is my go to emergency care office for sure. I have used this service for multiple pets over the years. If the cost was cheaper I would happily make this my primary care office.

Kathleen Kelly

I took my elderly dog to them for a second opinion on whether or not to prolong his life. It's a terrible decision to have to make. I have a primary vet that we have used for a number of years. That being said, I would not hesitate to go back to Sumner. I am not a vet nor a doctor, and as they are the experts i look to them to help me make the best decision. I appreciate when i ask what would you do if this was your pet that i get a straight answer hard as it might be. We (humans) tend to unintentionally let our animals suffer more then they should because it is hard on us to do the ugly deed. The doctor i worked with there, was compassionate and gentle in letting me know it was probably time. The employees that were there i found to all be friendly and great to work with.

Rebecca Henderson

Sumner Vet saved my Dogs life when she got ahold of some medication. She had to stay over night and they were really sweet when I called to check on her. They rock!!! Thank you Sumner Vet!! I will always be grateful to you!!

Tom Tucker

Old dog with internal bleeding. I was out of town they took advantage of my wife feelings for the dog $2,000 for a major surgery on a 12 year old dog. Later next day he passed. Should have not done the surgery on that old of a dog. But sometimes the money is more important. They prey on they're clients emotions instead of telling them that a procedure won't work. We are sad he's gone but taken advantage of

Karen Black

Caring! Not just for the furry friends, but for their humans. I can’t imagine going anywhere else. They extended TLC and support to me in personal and tangible ways in the toughest time of my life.

Amy French

We had to deal with an unexpected illness and loss of our dog. All of the staff was caring and professional. Dr Tori St. Cin was so helpful and really went above and beyond to help us.

Mark G

Think twice about boarding your dog or animal here. you take risk of your pet getting sick when they leave their care. They contacted me after my negative reveiw and apologized so I changed it from 1 star to 3. I'm paying for vet Bill's to get all my dogs back to health now as the dog I had kenneled here got sick and came home to get my other dogs sick. Yes I my wife signed a waiver stating they are not responsible. They tell you they do their best to screen animals that come in and separate the sick from the healthy, but some animals may be sick with no symptoms and get placed with the healthy. $100 kennel stay snowballs into several hundred dollars. You will be best to leave your your loved pet with a family or friend to save lots money and for them to stay healthy.

Shawn Deluca

Sumner Vet Hospital is an awesome place to take your furry pets. The only reason why I don't go there for all my pet needs is their pricing is higher. Only reason why I didn't give them a 5 star is because I wish their pricing was same.

Justin L

They give great service but will over charge you and have you spending money on your loved one that is not needed. They also seem to push having treatments done that will not affect your injured pup but cost you loads of money. Nice staff but me personally have had better experiences else ware.

Mary Banks

This is the most amazing place with the most amazing caring people I have ever met! From their smile to their so friendly hello and that is just opening up the door and a whole new experience awaits you inside! This is how all veterinary facilities should be. A big shout out to all assistants that work there and a very special hello to Dr. K. Who took such awesome care of Samson and Oliver, all of you will never be forgotten.

Yankee Dial

Excellent care for all of my pets over the years. Many of my cats lived into their later years because of the service they received at Sumner Vets. If I get more pets I will be taking them to Sumner Vets where they will be taken of in a professional manner and at an affordable price..

Souris Voleur

Our pets have always been treated well, and given the very best care, from puppy to end of life. If our dogs were sick we would always be told what they knew, what other tests they could run and how much they cost, and what all of our options were for care. We felt that we were in the driver's seat at all times, and yet they were willing to give us their professional and sometimes personal opinion to make hard choices. I've not had any complaints at all with Sumner Vet Hospital.

Joe Henrickson

Don't ever want to have to come back here again. They're very money-motivated, staff is not caring or considerate to how long they make you wait to be seen. They seem to act like "this is normal, this is the standard". And I don't blame them for lacking compassion if most of their clients have to wait for stitches and emergency services-- you get used to it. And that tells me all I need to know about the vibe here. 2 stars because their doctors and surgeons seem to be quality. You just have to get past the poor receptionists and vet techs with your wallet, then you get the good stuff. ======= Tl;dr If you can make the drive to Tacoma, go to "Summit"

Kristin Storm

We came to Sumner in an emergency situation. We found our cat to be very sick and they did X-rays and found that she had been shot with a pellet gun. They were compassionate kind in a very hard sad situation for our family. They worked hard to heal our Elsa and she came out a few days later just fine! ❤️

James Goforth

My experience was less than 1 star,we went to the summer vet after my neighbor's dog was attacked. They wanted 3000 dollars before they would fix my neighbor's dog that was hurt badly.never have I heard of a vet that would let a badly hurt animal sit there and suffer because you can't give them 3000 right now!these people do not care about your pet all they care about is money the emergency vet in auburn would never let your pet lay there and suffer, they actually like animals and would fix your pet and then discuss payment options ,but not sumner they make you apply for pet care credit because money comes first they could care less about your hurt pet suffering they called the police on me for letting them know how I feel about them, and as for the 400 pound receptionist at the front desk I get it if I was you I would be mad too a couldn't imagine being you.this is the worst vet I have ever been to

Linda E

My cat suddenly collapsed and was very weak so, I needed to take her in urgently. We located this place and they said we would only have to pay $60 if we arrived before 6pm and after that it would be $90. We arrived BEFORE 6pm and they still charged us $90. After we made them aware of this, they credited it to our clinic account instead of giving us back our hard earned money. It was their mistake, not ours. After we received the bill, we found out they did things that they didn't discuss with us before performing them. So, after waiting FOUR AND A HALF HOURS, they finally gave us our cat and charged us $576! They told us, due to her showing signs of renal failure, to come and get a recheck of blood work within 30 days and the blood work would be half price. So, we called to make an appointment a couple weeks later. They said they only had an appointment for 2 days PAST the "30 day" half price mark. What a coincidence... So, we had to do a walk in. We waited in the waiting room with our stressed out cat, for 2 hours. After we went into the room, we waited another hour and a half for them to finish, and we left with another high bill of $320. She absolutely refused to eat the food they sent us home with so, we had to go in today and change it. We had almost all the food they gave us! Naturally, we wanted our money back. They only gave us clinic credit instead of our money! So... If you want to spend all your money and not get a refund when you need one, by all means, this is the place for you! They were friendly and they did help us with our urgent situation, that's why I gave 2 stars. But, its tough enough making it from paycheck to paycheck here, we don't need to be gouged with our time and hard earned money because we care about our pets like family. My opinion... Only go here if you have plenty of time to waste and no other option.

I've had an emergency visit with both of my dogs now. The staff at Sumner Veterinarian Hospital are absolutely fantastic! They treated my dogs with care and took the time to fully explain what was happening with my fur babies. Definitely recommend!

Kathy Liese

I love this place! Always available and always reliable. I have taken my guinea pig here as well as my dog and both received excellent treatment. I love that I can get a same day appointment! When you have a sick animal, you don't want to wait 3 days for an appointment! This is my new vet!

Terry Jenkins

We have been clients of Sumner Vet Hospital since 1999. We have always trusted our girls in their care. Would highly recommend you give them a try.

Michele McWilliams

My primary Vet directed me to Sumner Vet Clinic yesterdat as my Abby dog had bloat. Thank God we caught it in time and I can not begin to thank Dr Moren enough for saving Abby's life. They are the best!!

I have recently changed veterinarians. I was hesitant to change because I had been taking my pets to the same vet for a decade. My previous vet was a single practitioner and the clinic was a small two person business. I like the personal touch, but needed a place that was accessible and that would support my decision as to when to spay my pet, as was not the case prior. My hesitancy was soon relieved as I met the friendly and professional staff, clean office, and I was not made to feel like a bad pet owner due to not spaying my large dog until she was older. Thank you Sumner Vet for your services.

We had to put our Golden retriever down due to cancer and they were very caring and professional. They also handled the cremation and the return of her ashes promptly and professionally.

Amy Reinmuth

2 hours. That is how long we had to wait for emergency care. Please get some drs on staff so my poor animal that is waiting for care is not waiting for two whole hours to even get in a room.

Dawne Suzanne

the doctors here are fantastic. well worth the extra $$ for the office visits. however, when i had to put my dog down, i really felt like just a number by the reception staff.

Dale Konsmo

We've been going to Sumner Vet for nearly 7 years and the level of care and caring as pertaining both to our pets and to us has been outstanding. We have the utmost confidence in Sumner Vet taking care of our pet's needs. Also, the lodging, which we have used many times, has been fantastic!

Lisa Longstreth

We had a slight mishap with our dog, and the emergency vet was in surgery for the next two hours, so the tech came out, looked at our dog, cleaned him up, and did not charge us! We are very grateful, and appreciative. We have always found the staff here to be very kind and compassionate!

Ken Devaney

Very knowledgeable, professional, and clean. Always friendly and love the fact they are 24 hours! Have been going there for probably 13 years or so and highly recommend their boarding also.

Gage Eby

Horrible customer service. Coming into the waiting room, three employees were talking behind the desk about non work related stuff and took them 5 minutes to acknowledge that I was standing there. I informed them I was just there to pick up my dog from having his teeth cleaning. I sat in the waiting room for 30 minutes, then was brought back to a room for another 30 minutes. All to have them walk my dog in, tell me it went well, then pay the bill. Seriously? The three people doing nothing at the front counter couldn’t do that? Absolutely ridiculous.

Tess Cors

The doctor was thorough and because of an extra test I learned of a condition my cat had that I likely wouldn't have otherwise known. I went there in the middle of the night. I worked with my own vet to decide a course of action following this visit that was a little different than what the Sumner vet said, so it's always good to work with doctors you know and trust for follow up too. Follow your own instincts about what your pet needs. Sumner really helped my cat in the middle of the night. She was examined to make sure she was stable and left with antibiotics. The doctor seemed very skilled and followed up with me by phone regarding the test results when they came in. He also made a prescription available over the internet when the clinic didn't carry the med he thought could be of further help based on her test results.. The doctor was very professional and the staff kept me updated on what was happening after they took my cat in the back to be examined. They let me know where she was and what was happening.

Now I see reviews going downhill fast. Today was our third visit at Sumner Vet Hosptial in a month. The wait was an hour and a half up to three hours. . We had the same Dr the first two times. Prognosis colitis for my ten year old Yorkie. Today’s Dr suggested I go to one of the other emergency clinics. I asked her if we had an after hour emergency, if we are not welcome here. She said that it’s only thirty minutes farther. I’m already 40 minutes away from Sumner. She was basically kicking us out. I think she was angry because I said I needed answers about what is causing pain for my dog. I said I can’t keep paying for emergency visits without eventually getting answers. She informed me that sometimes they never find the answers. And that my explanation of symptoms were vague. (The bloody stool sample must be vague??!!). Oh, and that it’s my failure for not following up with Rx food that made him vomit. And for NOT giving him pain meds when was acting fine and %100 percent his normal self for two weeks. I’m sorry but I won’t give my dog pain meds when he doesn’t have pain. I understand veterinary medicine can be complicated. Too bad out pets can’t talk huh. But to be subtly kicked out of an vet office just for wanting a diagnosis? Horrible care. The office manager did speak with me before we left. As my dog puked on me (not vague), she did not charge me for today’s visit. Which left me in tears. I cannot say for sure if I would try to drive the extra hour to Tacoma during an after hour emergency. I wouldn’t be comfortable seeing her again.

Nicole Pennington

We came in with our kitty who was very sick. They were compassionate and honest about our options. They let us take our time to decide what we wanted, and handled our situation with the most care.

Ellie B

Went in on August 2nd 2019 for my pet rabbit, Pippin. Staff was very nice and professional, the girl who checked us in Aubrey was absolutely fantastic. I definitely recommend Aubrey, you can tell she genuinely loves and cares about animals. Very pleased with her work, friendliness, and overall good and kind attitude. Thanks for your good service, Sumner.

Chelsea Caudle

Great experience they got me in right away and took care of my cat quickly. And offered me helpful advice for my cat.

Megan Brech

Excellent night staff in their emergency room! I brought my collie in last night...at 3am...who in general runs on the skittish side, especially after a bad experience at a vet recently in Renton. Both staff members took the time to develop trust with her before evaluating her. I can't express how much it means to me to know I can count on my dog (and myself!) being treated with respect and integrity here.

Maria Morales

They performed a xray to check for more puppys on our dog , they said she was done with labor that really help us feel at peace❤️

Kristen and Brendan L

I have been blown away at the professionalism and sincere kindness this place has shown my family during our very difficult time letting go of our beloved fur baby ❤ I could never say thank you, enough.

pamela wimp

My experience has only been with Dr. Amy Smith. She is very knowledge and compassionate. She has always helped my pets. She is a true professional and a cute redhead.

#amerikalarisa

I like really liked this place for my cat. Exceptional and caring stuff. Everything was done quickly and good.

Rema Zeldagirl

Best vet I have ever found!! Been taking my angels there for years and recommended many people. The vets are all truly caring and knowledgable and take wonderful care of my pets!!

To Wanda

This is an amazing Veterinary hospital with kind, caring, excellent staff. Michaela & Donna were very professional & understanding when I turned up with a sweet cat who seemed to have a possible UTI or blockage when I gently checked him at home. I apologize that pain from my own partly collapsed lung that night had me weeping; especially learning I couldn't pay for his care. Thank you Michela for providing guidance to use pet id; as well as keeping him for observation since he was in obvious pain. I hope to get in touch with owner or find this sweet cat; if he is placed up for adoption. Sumner was also there for me when my elderly cat Apollo let me know it was time to say goodbye after 17+ years in 2015. Allowing privacy and time to grieve. They offer pet cremations with affordable urns as well as pet burial services; too. From first exam to final exit; Sumner has your pet's needs covered.

Mylissa Rayman

All the doctors there love your pets and love their job! They maybe a bit spendy for some but you are paying for a quality service

Amanda W

I called today and needed an aviary vet for an emergency. They dont work on the weekends. My parakeet died because they wouldnt see my bird. I guess you better hope you bird doesnt get sick on the weekend

Patricia Smith

Dr. Nelson provided years of acupuncture treatment for our beloved Golden. The entire staff are compassionate and kind. Even in her final moments, our Golden Retriever know she was in a place that people cared about her. Would highly recommend Sumner Veterinary Hospital for all you pet care needs.

Ashley Justice

Horrible horrible place! If I could give negative -5 stars I would. Long story short take your money somewhere else. HORRIBLE

Susan Heller

Staff is wonderful! Abby is always excited when I take her in for boarding. I would highly recommend Sumner Vet Hospital.

Ann Rosellini

The care we got from everyone here was wonderful. From the vet techs, the vets, grooming staff and day care. We were treated respectfully no matter if it was an emergency or a well check. Very supportive from the start. Thank you.

Andrea Kemp

They took care of our family when we were struggling to understand our older dog's illness. Two other vets in Bonney Lake misdiagnosed him and it resulted in two agonizing weeks of forcing pills in him, hoping things would turn around. Sumner figured it out right away and they were very comforting even though it was bad news. I wish we had gone here sooner. The after hours care is exceptional and nice to have nearby. I highly recommend them for all of your pets' needs.

Michael Mangapit

We have several pets that are cared for at Sumner Vet. From a Naked Cat to a 140lb American Bulldog. Our Dalmatian does daycare there 3 times a week and is well taken care of. Since they are open 24 hours it is convenient for us because of our work hours.

Paige Devine

The Drs know what their doing! I had a valuable pup having seizures and it turned out to puppy over ratting?......alot more details. I won't go anywhere else.

Beckey Langley

Sumner Veterinary hospital was so great to take in our pug Yoda on an emergency visit as he had suffered a stroke on the weekend. There was not much they could do, but I was very pleased that they could at least see him. Great location for an Emergency Vet and a very caring staff.

Nick Weaver

Great vet hospital. Clean facility, staff was prompt and courteous. Decent pricing as well.

Angela Lyons

Boarding = 5+ stars! My dogs love it there and they are professional, courteous, diligent and fairly priced. Vet = 4 stars. They saved my dogs life after he ingested 2900 mg of ibuprofin. The only reason not 5 stars is that they sent him home filthy (dried blood covered his backside - everywhere - which I did not notice until it STAINED my car seat and had to have it professionally cleaned). Also, they released him telling me he did not have the runs - but upon bringing him back after he was 100% pure bloody runs (sorry, gross), they said his charts did indicate he had the runs before he left. So this was an added few hundred dollar - UNNECESSARY - visit. I did explain these two rather big added costs which should have been avoided, and nothing was done. **However, again, they saved my dog's life. So I am thankful for that.** FABULOUS for boarding and grooming, but it seems there are gaps in communication and attention to detail. I will go back - but I will be overly diligent in asking detailed questions. ALL the staff on the boarding side are absolutely WONDERFUL!!!! Every time we go in, they are SO SWEET and so nice to my dogs! I can tell they take very good care of them because the dogs stroll out like they've been at a luxury spa. Only place I will board my dogs. WONDERFUL boarding staff!!!!

Dalila Orozco

Staff is very friendly and caring. They saved our dog. We will forever thank them.

Belinda Crum

We are very pleased with Sumner Vet. Hospital. The staff is very friendly & helpful. They are available 24 hours a day. Dr. St. Cinn is the best. If possible she comes to the phone when you call, if not she returns your call quickly. She suspected our cat had thyroid hypertension, did tests & got us connected with a thyroid specialist right away. Saved our cats life.

Tammy Byars

I brought our dog here twice and both times I had a very long wait. Tonight we have been here four hours and when we pressed the button the nurse was short with us. Our dog has been throwing up and had diarrhea for two days. He lost one pound in that short time. Tonight they took x-rays again! I don’t know why they needed a second set when they didn’t see anything the first time. I will be picking our dog up tomorrow for sure and I hope to find a different emergency vet.

Courtney Stratton

I am forever grateful for the compassion Dr. Fielder, Dr. Sugarman, and all of the staff, showed us for the 24 hour period our boy was there. He went downhill fast from a neurological condition, and the staff treated us and our sweet boy like they had known us our whole lives. I don't know how you get up and face these emotional days, but I will never forget how wonderful we were treated during one of the hardest days of our lives. Thank you

Julie A

We trust Sumner Vet with our 2 tiny dogs anytime we're out of town. They come home happy and healthy! We also trust them with their healthcare, from ears to tails and nails, they do it all.

Ron Olson

This place offers great service for your pets. I have been with them for over 15 years. I highly recommend them!

Angi Reeves

Recently our Boxer, Bishop, had what we think was a stroke and he was starting to fade. I called ahead and when we arrived the technicians quickly rushed to our truck. They were gentle in checking him, slid him onto their carrier and rushed him back to check his vitals. My family thanks you for being so kind and prompt. We were turned away by 2 of our local vets as they were too busy even though I explained he was dying! Bishop was so very loved and we thank you for your kindness in his final hours.

Linda Dooley

Sumner Veterinary Hospital was our veterinarian for 15 years. They took wonderful care of our beagle, Sally. Whenever we came in, they greeted her by name and when she had to be hospitalized one time, the staff checked on her frequently and kept us updated. They were as upset as we were when she passed away at age 15 1/2 years. They were gracious and so helpful to us at a time when we were emotionally overwrought. Friends and family members continue to use their services. Highly recommended!

Lynette Carlson

Been taking my fur kids to Sumner vet for years and every time has been a great experience for me and them. They have kept all my dogs and cat very healthy and truly care.

Eric Lester

This is a great animal hospital. They are open 24/7. Anyone with pets knows that the problems don't happen at 10AM on Wednesday. We've had great care there for our cats. There are several veterinarians available, and every one of them has been a compassionate professional. The only thing that's a little tough about Sumner VH is that we are cat owners, and our cats are not happy to be around dogs. The waiting room usually has a few dogs in it, and the boarding facility is often busy checking pets in and out. This makes our cats really nervous, and makes the visit more stressful. If there were a cat-only, 24/7 facility, this would be absolutely perfect. I realize that this is probably not feasible, economically, but I can dream.

Lorraine Floyd

Apparently I can’t give no stars, Both my daughter and myself had negative experiences here on separate emergent occasions. They have no compassion for animals. I heard an animal screaming in pain and fear the back and inquired as to what had happened, they casually told me it was the dog I had brought in. Never again.

Sarah Scott

Great hospital with great people! They have many high tech options available to pet owners. Rehab, daycare, emergency services. This hospital is a cozy welcoming place. All the doctors are understanding and welcoming.

edward mckendry

We were traveling, our beloved dog was dieing after getting lost in Canada. Being diabetic and missing several days of her insulin, she recovered initially only to relapse. The staff were very understanding and helped us to put her to sleep and out of pain. Thank you.

This is a review posted on Facebook today 12/14/2018 by Kelly Carrier about Sumner Veterinary Hospital. Definitely looking for a new veterinarian hospital. We are on So Hill of Puyallup, but willing to go some distance if the care is exceptionally outstanding, genuine, and not about the dollar
