I have been taking my dogs to Steamboat over the past 2 years. I applied to adopt a special needs dog from Georgia. They did a vet check and Steamboat told them I don't use flea prevention, just because I don't buy it from them. We use K9 advantage and I tell the vets that at each appointment. They also said I don't use heartworm prevention, instead of telling the rescue it's not necessary in Western WA since it is not endemic and my dogs don't travel outside of the state. The rescue service said my application was great except that Steamboat said I didn't use prevention so the adoption was declined. So a dog didn't get adopted / is still at a shelter and a rescue group thinks I don't take care of my dogs. Instead of an apology, I was told I could book an appointment and pay to discuss it. Clearly, they care about income more than the welfare of an animal.

I'm not sure when vets turned into pushers any used car salesman. My dog was treated for two line items that I did not authorize and the disposition of the vet was a used car salesman in that he would let a bunch of procedures quickly and start walking out of the room saying, "I'll get started on all of that, if it's ok with you?" I mean, seriously, why not be absolutely upfront. Not try and sneak this and that into the visit for revenue purposes. I'm pretty sure I'll need to stop coming to this vet. I miss the real vets that were not concerned more with money than pet health. Of course there needs to be a profit, but taking advantage of an already terrible situation with the goal of increasing revenue is absolutely wrong. I haven't seen a good vet in over ten years. It's as if they're being taught in school how to push this product, force this service or that on a client.... Pretty sad. There's plenty of room in the industry for honesty AND profit.

Dr. Frasier and all the assistants and technicians have been beyond amazing to my puppy and I these past 5 weeks. I brought her in with a broken tibia after being quoted a horrendous price for just an x-ray at a hospital more local to me. They were very understanding, helped me with deciding the best and most affordable treatment for my puppy. I've been in every week since for splint changes and they continue to be amazing. Next time we come in she should be getting her splint off and more x-rays to check how she's healed and I have no doubt in my mind that she will have a full recovery. I drive nearly 20 minutes each way from Lacey for my appointments and don't regret it. Keep it up guys! *Update Puppy Harley is all healed up, muscle has regrown and so has the hair she lost on her leg from being in a cast so long. Healthiest and happiest puppy ever, and I owe it to this team. Thank you again.

I’ve taken one cat and three dogs there and am completely in love with their service compassion and dedication and extremely reasonable fees. I am on a fixed income and am able to afford their fees. If you want amazing service and love your pet try going to steamboat animal hospital they will not disappoint you !

I have used this clinic a couple times. I really like Dr. Schulz. He seems to really care about my animals and really consider what is going on with them. I have also been seen by another Dr. there who also seemed pretty pleasant. My gripe with this place is the poor quality of service I receive at the reception desk and via phone. The reception girls always seem like space cadets and any time I have called I always get put on hold for like 5 minutes. It seems like they could do a better job in their choosing their office staff.

The customer service at the front desk is atrocious. No hellos, no we will be with you in a bit. The secretary looked overwhelmed, under helped and angry. She did not give eyecontact and she was picking her face. Not only was I passed up for another, male, customer but the wait was more than 10 minutes because the secretary did not have support that she needed.

This place would have 1 star if it weren't for Dr. Capsey Dr. Capsey is the only vet here I will take my pups to! I've been to 2 other vets and this office and wasn't a fan of either unfortunately. He actually takes the time to sit there and interact with my dogs for an appointment whether or not he is the vet seeing them. He takes the time to remember our pets and their issues which is very refreshing. Every time I come in with my dog whether to get her nails trimmed or get her vaccinations, if he sees her he will stop in our room and just check in. That is what a great vet should do and I will definitely be coming to this vet office as long as he is employed here. Thank you Dr. Capsey!!

The staff at Steamboat Animal Hospital were friendly, helpful and caring. Even though they were extremely busy at a time when I called, the rep who answered the phone and the technician working with the vet who did my dog's surgery took the time to answer my questions and relieve my concerns. We weren't able to pick her up early in the afternoon and asked if I could pick her up later in the day and the response was yes, not to worry, we'll keep her comfortable until you get here. Everything that happened during her stay was explained to me and very clear after procedure instructions given. When I first saw my pup when I picked her up she was still sleepy but I could tell she really liked the technician who brought her out to me. I was extremely impressed. They took excellent care of her and although she has stitches, they are small and honestly, barely noticeable. I was referred by a friend and now I'll refer my friends.

So pleased with first contact this morning to get an immediate appointment for my dog's injury. The receptionist was very kind and seemed caring about this situation which made me feel Rocky would be in good hands.This afternoon when I called for an update, I was immediately transferred to the Dr. who was able to answer what various options could be available based on the next day's examination. After waiting in a room again for over 40 min for a puppy shot for my puppy and a rabies for my cat... The cat just had a wellness two months ago to stay "up to date" and I was charged for another one even though requirement is once per year. No examine given, no temperature taken on either animal. A quick glance over. And then their outrageous fees. Never see the same vet twice and misdiagnoses a terrible prostate infection on a dog I referred to them! I'm done, time to find a new vet. They will NOT honor my other dogs 3 year shot saying their office has different policies. So they force you to give them shots even the company doesn't recomend they have! It's ALL about money and not about proper care of your animals and they if you want you insure your pet they have to be up to date so this vet makes you give them extra!!! This is not right. Their immune system can't handle all this extra shots and now you have other issues you have to deal with caused by the side effects of the damn shots... More money for them, more stress for your dog that he/she doesn't need. Find a vet not connected to this new chain...privately owned and operated... Maybe they still care about the animals and not just their pocketbook.

She always gave frank, yet thoughtful, counsel when it came to the care of our aging dogs. We lost both our fur babies this year, and thanks to their support and kindness both our girls had a peaceful and painless passing. We’ve been coming here ever since we got our female cat Ziggy almost 3 years ago. They’ve always been attentive to our concerns and needs. The entire staff is SUPER friendly and very patient with answering any and all questions. We routinely come in for annual care for both of our cats. Our most recent visit is a excellent example of why our family loves steamboat. We traveled from Hawks Prairie which is a long drive for a stressed out kitty who doesn’t leave the house much. We were checked in quickly and brought into the exam room where the receptionist had sprayed pheromone mist that instantly calmed our Ziggy. Then Dr.Cotran came in and addressed all of our concerns with such a caring manner and we were out with in an hour and under $100. After other experiences with other hospitals we will gladly give Steamboat Animal Hospital our business every time, even if that means driving a half hour. WE LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH.

So the first experience I had with this hospital since I was new to the area a couple months ago. My dog needed her yearly shots , so we go to the appointment and get her shots and then they tell me that there computers where down and so they would call me when they got them fixed so I could pay the bill. So weeks go by and I don't here anything and then I go out of town for work and they call me and I told the lady I would be in when I got back in to town to pay it! So I go to the hospital and they proceed to tell me that they sent my bill to collections. So I talk to financial lady and work it out and I payed it in full, a week later the collection company is still calling me ! So I try again to do business with them call and schedule a surgery to get my dog spayed and ask the girl if they take vouchers and she tells me yeah and then I go to drop her off this morning and the girl tells me that they don't take my voucher , so I'm writing this review to give you my experience with this hospital! Very unprofessional and please be aware of these things if you are thinking about doing business with this hospital! I suggest go anywhere but here! #Most un professional animal hospital I ever dealt with!!!

Took my kitten here today, paid for services in advance, so my husband would not have any extra expenses to pay when he picked her up. And even after I told them that my cat has an appt with our regular vet for another round of shots and not to give them to her... THEY STILL DID.... they told me there were no notes, I even called yesterday to tell them nothing extra other than getting her spayed... so they did it any way. Horrible communication between employees there. Even the nurse that took my kitten from me, I repeated it then. I was warned they always try and come up with extra expenses... now I know. I went to them because they are closer to me. I will never go there again. I have friends that work there, this was not on them. As they were not the ones checking me in. Do not take your animals there

BUTCHERS. One of my dogs is dead and the other had all her teeth ripped out without permission. We take them in for regular check ups and they never mentioned a very obvious irregular heartbeat. Her heart had grown so big it filled her lung capacity so she couldn't breath, they told us she was just lazy and needed to get more exercise. When she eventually collapsed at home from this condition they have been ignoring the hospital refused to see us and tried to schedule us a week out. We went anyways and demanded they do something. She died on the table and when they made a print of her paw in her dying moments they put the wrong name. AND we took our other dog in for a simple teeth cleaning and they pulled TWELVE of her teeth without confirming with us then tried to charge us $1,200 for it! She can no longer chew bones and has to be on wet food for the rest of her life. Her canine teeth were included and it changed her face shape. She was completely healthy and there was no need to disfigure my dog and alter her life forever. When we asked for answers and apologies they gave us sass and tried to brush us aside. I volunteered here as a kid and saw them put down healthy dogs for people that didn't want them and help breeders by not reporting abuse. I saw an 11 month puppy go into surgery because her body was too small to give birth and the owner only cared about how much they would get for each puppy, nothing was reported only supported. Find an office that cares about anything besides money.

After calling TWICE,.. morning and early afternoon, And being put on perpetual hold both times. I decided to drive here being the closest vet open on a Sunday from Aberdeen. My Dog had just been thru a vicious attack. And myself having some 43 puncture wounds. BUT, WE WERE TURNED AWAY. As it wasn't Life or Death,.. Not that they even looked, which they didn't. Only had time left before closing, for their clients. Empty Waiting room, closes at 6, and was only around 3. Then told about some other vets open farther away in Olympia. This is just unheard of. But everyone I know, or asked about this #$*%@? place, Will Hear about it.

My cat, Ozzy, had to be seen for an injury on his hand and this was the first vet visit for both of us that went beyond the "yep, looks good" kind of check-up, so we were a little nervous! But Dr. Cotran put us both at ease and reassured me that there were non-invasive treatment options to try first. Dr. C took the time to answer all my questions and also made sure Ozzy never felt rushed or anxious. I came in last night at 7 o clock seeking help for my cat who had a possibly paw fracture. This hospital closes at 8, and they still made sure to help me in a timely fashion. I had no appointment, I just walked in and they helped me. When the doctor examined my cat she was friendly and treated my cat with care and poise. When it came time for treatment options, she very casually mentioned the prices of the xray and medication she wanted to prescribe. I felt respected even though I am a college student with little to spend on vet care. All in all, I felt that the staff were excellent and the prices were fair. Hands down I will take my cat back next time she needs veterinary care. Thanks so much for helping me make a care plan for my pet and making me feel respected and assisted.

This is the best vet I've ever been to!! I drive 40 minutes out to this vet because they're THAT good. Seen two doctors there and they were both super nice thorough and educated me on everything I needed to know so I didn't leave with questions I forgot to ask. Dr. Capsey did a surgery on my cat and did an amazing job. My cat healed up fast! I love this place!! You won't find a better vet, for general care or emergency care. The staff that works there are awesome and super nice as well!

Clean, friendly and knowledgable staff. I only gave 4 stars instead of 5 because the first vet we saw there was very nervous around our breed of dogs and rather than speak up or doing a complete muzzle exam of a cut like we had asked she overlooked an abscess. The situation was addressed and we were able to rotate doctors easily without issue. This will not keep me from recommending them in the future as it probably could have happened at any facility.

Last fall Tink got suddenly very ill and the staff was amazing about getting us in for an emergency appointment. Sadly, Dr.Capsey found what he believed to be a colon tumor. After taking TInk to a horrible oncologist in Olympia, I went back to Steamboat after finding out it was indeed colon cancer. And Dr. Capsey was with me literally EVERY step of the way on deciding how to handle my fur-baby's cancer. He took God knows how many panicked calls from me over the months, keeping me calm and educated on what was happening with Tink. With his help and genuine caring advice, I was able to spend another wonderful six months with Tink before the cancer spread to the point of no return. The staff went above and beyond taking all of my calls the last few months, and were helpful in scheduling an at home euthanasia. Dr. Capsey and his assistant Alora, came out to my house so 17 year old Tink wouldn't have to say goodbye in an exam room. I was able to hold him, and say goodbye at home where he was comfortable. I feel so grateful, and so blessed to have been treated with the kindness, respect, and care we have received from this hospital and its staff. I wish that the rest of my human family had doctors that were as great as this! I cannot thank Dr. Capsey enough for everything he has done for me, and for Tinker.

Staff went above and beyond for my fur baby Cola!!! They tried everything to save her leg but could not get her leg to stop bleeding and in the end she had to have her leg amputated but they saved her life and she is doing amazing she gets around like she has all four legs still. I've been a satisfied customer for many years. Clean modern facility, friendly as family folks. Today I had a terrible experience and hope to receive a phone call appology. I will follow-up in a few weeks to conclude... I called yesterday to make an appointment to drop off our pet Pomeranian to be put down. As I explained (and their records reflect) Bear's 14+ years old, they've removed most of her teeth, she had lost her vision and now lost control of hey bathroom habits. She had a wonderful life and any further just wouldn't be right. I explained all of this over the phone. The employee that took the call was making notes and was very understanding. Today, I waited my turn to approach the counter, I introduced myself and Bear, stating I was here to drop off Bear for her appointment. I was asked to sign a release and did. Then asked to hang on a few minutes, (Bear still in my arms), I'm approached by nurse Kratchet.... I'm asked, why are you here? What's wrong with her? I tried to simply say I went over all this yesterday and would she please just take Bear.... She refused at first and then I put bear in nurse Kratchet's arms and said thank you. She says, the law says I have to have a reason. I said because I asked. I said I don't want to go over it all again and had explained everything yesterday. She turns and walked away looking very upset. The assistant at the counter took over with the questions... What's wrong with her? It's the law, I guess I must have been short at that point and she snaps, "do you want my help or not". I say not really, she turns and pouts away saying,"I'm done!". Our pets don't live forever. If these folks don't want to be in the business of putting old, tired, disabled pets down, they need to be clear about it when customers call. Very sad way to say goodbye.

The worst if I could give zero stars I would. If you want to be charged out the ass, treated like crap and don't give a damn about your fur babies, then by all means you should go here. Learning the hard way has made me drive an hour away just to go to a reputable animal hospital that actually cares about me and my loved ones. Our children deserve better, we deserve better. If we are paying so damn much for office visits and lab work, then we should be provided with all information, and when we ask our vet what kind of food should we feed our dog, they shouldn't be able to say, "well I can't tell you that I'm not a nutritionist" Or when I ask why is my dog licking himself bloody, I should not be told, "I don't know why, maybe you should go get him a puppy" Why so I can pay for more bullshit office visits where nobody can tell me a damn thing. What are we paying for????? All of this has happened to me at this place in the past 3 years, plus many other experiences, I have given them plenty of chances. We just have to remember they are not just our pets, they are family too.

I have been bringing my dogs to Steamboat for over 10 years now and we are on our 3rd family dog with Steamboat. Dr. Emma Cotran and her assistant Valerie are wonderful. Their attention to detail is really appreciated and they both make us feel like we are their only patients, always remembering just what our pups like and giving them the best care. We recently had to have TPLO surgery and they made sure I understood the surgery and recovery process. It was a relief knowing they were there for all my questions and concerns.

My dog was running through the backyard and snagged himself on a piece of expanded metal sticking out from our pig roaster. He had about a 6" clean cut through his skin and fat layer that was wide open showing all of his muscle underneath. Any dog mom or dog dad can imagine how frantic I was at that point. I called Haigh Animal Hospital in Shelton and explained what happened. They told me that they were all booked for the day and didn't have time for sutures. I was obviously beside myself. How can you call yourselves and animal hospital? They recommended that I call Steamboat and I'm so glad they did because we will always be a patient of Steamboat from now on! I then called Steamboat Animal Hospital in a panicked state and I was greeted with a calm and friendly voice. She worked us into their extremely busy schedule right away and I was able to drop my dog off the moment I hung up the phone. When I came to pick up my fur baby I was pleasantly surprised that my invoice was literally half of the amount that I was quoted. This was a much needed financial break especially being right before the holidays. They even recommended that we apply for care credit online. We were approved and all I had to do was bring in my confirmation number. Overall our experience with Steamboat was a 5 star and we would highly recommend them to anybody. I could tell that they truly cared about us and were so willing to help when we needed it the most.

Attention to detail, respect for the animals and gentility based on temperament is only a part of why we have taken to making these folks our go to. We have house pets and full time working livestock guardian dogs and the staff fully understands the difference and respects them. The fact that they are also open 7 days a week for appointments or emergencies during operating hours is a serious bonus when you have dogs that live outside 24/7 protecting their herd---things happen.

He seemed dismissive of our concerns about our dog, and as we found out at a different vet he was completely wrong in his diagnosis. 3 stars because I only saw the one vet, and maybe he's the only one that sucks. Brought our 9 yr old male cat in due to diarrhea and vomiting his food. He was thoroughly checked and the tech(?) gave a good explanation of what could be causing his issues...proposed a good preliminary game plan to get him on the mend before getting into more serious money (which we appreciated very much). Antibiotics and a dewormer...and his wet food only (no "crunchies") so his tummy and bowels can chill out. Will revisit in 10 days for a follow up. Should also mention he was scheduled for a Friday appt but they got him in the Tuesday before! (The very next day after we initially called). Only have good things to say about this experience and the MANY visits prior to get his food.

Steamboat animal hospital is amazing! They work so hard to get to the bottom of your pets health concerns, and are equipped to handle far more situations then the average vet. As a bonus the staff all truly cares and become invested in your pet. It's a little more expensive than some vets but well worth it. I won't ever take my pets elsewhere.
