My dog, Jack, had a run-in with a coyote and we came to Spanaway Vet Clinic for emergency care. The staff were efficient and caring, and the vet (I don't remember her name, but she was awesome) explained our options and the difficulties we faced if we chose to pursue surgery on our badly injured boy. She was honest and forthright, and still managed to show compassion for what we were going through. We chose to end Jack's pain, and afterward they sent me a condolence card. I am now considering making Spanaway Vet Clinic my regular vet.

Horrible, horrible customer service from the front desk!! Unorganized. One person says the shots are up to date and the other says they aren't. Lady at the front desk is always rude, like she is over worked and stressed. Upper management should hire more help if thats the issue and address the way the front staff talks to customers. Dont waste your time! Take your business elsewhere!!!

I needed to try to make an appointment on Sunday because my cat had an emergency. I called first thing and left a message. I NEVER got a call back. They must treat their old clients better than their new considering the great reviews they have. I ended up going elsewhere with my kitten.

I brought my Bearded Dragon here a while ago because she was not eating or moving our anything. The doctor was very knowledgeable. He must seriously study his reptile stuff. They sent me home with a container to get a still sample and a price tag for blood tests if she wasn't getting better. When I talked to a co worker the next day, she told me about brumation. I was disappointed. The vet did tell me to keep the heat on at night and didn't force, even a little, the expensive tests. With the heat on at night she snapped right out of it. Why did he not tell me about brumation? Frustrating. I went to the vet because I was a new owner. Then just today my dog woke up refusing to put any weight on a back leg. It's a Sunday, the day before a holiday, and every vet was booked. Spanaway Vet was the only one that said "but we take walk ins". They were very upfront that you could be sitting there all day. I gave her some aspirin and waited a few minutes. She was more willing to walk so I figured it could wait. She's wees when she is nervous so sitting there for hours wasn't worth it if she could wait. It's just so nice to know there is an option that isn't the emergency vet that I can't afford.

We were able to get in quickly which is a plus, but I would have to say that the front desk ladies were not very friendly or helpful. The vet was awful and couldn't even handle my cat. We ended up leaving and seeking help elsewhere.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE ! I was quoted for $132 out the door price to neuter my dog (65 lbs). I talked to Amanda she looked at my shot record and everything was good. he weighed 73.2lbs at drop off so total out the door price was $179.68 with pain meds. I was told they would call me after surgery and let me know how he was. I just called at 1 pm because they didnt call me. My bill is $190. 78 out the door now ! I talked to them and asked how in the hell it's so much. well he didnt have a Kennel Cough vaccine, then the cone collar is not included, and tax for the pain meds. THEY WILL NICKLE AND DIME YOU ! THIS ALL HAPPENED ON 1/15/2015. AND I AM MILITARY !

This clinic is the best I have seen in over 30+ years of owning animals!! This clinic's staff was empathetic, caring and respectful to both my mom and her baby boy. Let me explain...my mom came to visit from Colorado and her 10 year old Chihuahua (Koko) had gotten an infected tooth over the 4th of July holiday. They got us right in the morning after the 4th, examined him and found he had a few teeth that were needing pulled. When my mom told them what she made a month on SSI, they worked with her to where she could afford to get the work done. EXCEPTIONAL STAFF and they went above and beyond to make us and her baby feel comfortable. I would not recommend going anywhere else but here!!!! Thank you SVC!

Took my lizard in to get check out was told best option is to put him down so I did and was told I can take him home and dig a hole for him or I can creamated him so I pick to get him creamated during this I was very upset cause my pet lizard was family I sign paper work for creamated saying I won't get him back for doing a group one. Very sad they would not tell a person that while there and just hand paper work to people who are crying and upset. They also charge 40.00 to get him creamated and u still don't get ur pet back. To me it's a way for them to scam people out of money in a hard time when dealing with a lost of a pet. To me that is not cool at all.

I was shocked when I called Spanaway Veterinary Clinic earlier this week to request a refill for NexGard (a one-time flea medicine dose in the form of a chewable tablet as opposed to a topical treatment like Advantage or Frontline). My 1.5 year old Bichon mix has had NexGard several times over the course of her lifetime. I have chosen NexGard over topical treatments at the recommendation of the vet at Spanaway Veterinary Clinic. She had previously advised me that because of my dog’s coat, NexGard would be more effective. Since fleas are not generally an issue for my dog, I dose her on an as-needed basis, once every 3-4 months or so if I spot a couple of them. I returned from a vacation on Monday and picked up my dog from a friend’s house and found that she was covered in fleas. It was pretty bad. I felt terrible for her, so I called Spanaway Veterinary Clinic to ask for a refill of the NexGard for her. I planned to pick it up on my way home, feed her the pill, then give her a bath when we got home so that she could start feeling better. The receptionist at Spanaway Veterinary Clinic advised me that they would be unable to refill the flea medication for my dog until she has had an exam. Being that I’ve just gotten home from vacation, money is a little tight. I explained that I understood she was about due for an exam but asked if they would be able to offer a one-time courtesy for the flea medication until next week, as I wasn’t able to afford the exam fee right then. I was given an unequivocal “no.” To say that I am shocked that this establishment would absolutely not budge for an animal in need is an understatement. I was in tears on the phone with the receptionist as well as the manager practically begging for them to give me a one-time courtesy. After all, this is a medication she has had SEVERAL times. I was informed told that my dog would need to be up-to-date on her exams in order to receive flea medication. At one point, the manager said to me “I am sorry you allowed your dog’s fleas to get that bad. That’s terrible. I feel awful for her.” How condescending and how incredibly rude of a veterinary clinic to say something like that without any desire to actually offer any assistance. I was never offered any alternatives such as being billed for the exam later; the only thing offered was to bring my dog in for an exam, which I mentioned several times I wouldn’t be able to afford until next week. The fact that Spanaway Veterinary Clinic downright refused to help an established patient is appalling. It is clear that their interests were not in the safety of my dog; it was ensuring that they continue to line their pockets. If they had my dog’s best interest at the forefront of their mind, alternatives would be given. A one-time courtesy refill. An offer to allow for a payment plan in order for my dog to be seen so that she could get the flea medication that she needed. As a pet owner, it is our responsibility to keep our animals happy and healthy; however, accidents happen and the best thing for us to do in these cases is to look to our veterinary clinics for help and guidance. It is an incredibly sad thing to know that the place I trusted with my dog’s health would refuse to refill a medication she has had several times throughout her life because I was unable to pay for her exam that same day. The good news is that I tried some Advantage II on my dog and, to be surprise, it worked! While I am happy that my dog is now flea-free, I am saddened (but not surprised) to learn that I had been buying NexGard at the recommendation of the vet at Spanaway Veterinary Clinic when a topical medication would have worked just as well. It just goes to show that this establishment never really had my dog’s best interest at heart, just a desire to upsell and overcharge me for a medication I thought she needed, as I was told topical medications would not work on her coat. I will not be taking my dog nor my cat back to this establishment and honestly, you shouldn’t either.

My brother and I went in because our pitbull terrier got a cut on his paw while my family and I were out of state for a family member's funeral. The other clinic we go to is a tiny bit farther away from us so we searched for somewhere closer and that had good reviews. The doctor that visited us was very nice and very knowledgeable. He answered all our questions that we had and explained what would happen if the laceration was worse than what it was. We also didn't have to wait very long even though we didn't have an appointment. The reason I am giving our experience 2 stars was because of the 2 receptionists. They seemed very judgmental by the way they were asking us questions or their side comments. Like, "oh his nails are so long" or "I wonder how you got this cut?" Yes my family and I have a pitbull that got a cut on his paw but in NO WAY would we ever put our dog, who we see as family, in purposeful danger! Are you serious?! Whatever they were thinking we were, well WE ARE DEFINITELY NOT! Our baby is NOT a fighting dog! No matter how well the clinic worked we will not be coming back just to be judged! I'm not saying all the employees there are like this but the 2 receptionists that were working on February 1st, 2019 at 12:00 pm were. If you are a pitbull owner and are thinking about going to this place, please be very wary.

We took our hedgehog in as it was apparent the little guy was really sick. They treated him with a lot of care and consideration, which was nice considering some vets tend to treat small animals like they're semi-disposable. They successfully diagnosed pneumonia, and treated him as best as they could. The vet did not lie to us about his chances, but clearly took the effort to explain what was wrong with the hedgehog, what we could do to help him, and steps to take if he got worse. The treatment actually cost below the quoted price which was nice (and did include several tests which the results were shown and explained to us, and several kinds of treatment). Our hedgehog died anyway, he did not have very good odds at recovering in the first place. But the standard of care he received and the level of respect he received at Spanaway Veterinary Clinic at least left us knowing we did the best we could for the little guy.

Make sure you schedule an appointment or at least call first. They are quality, so their time is in high demand. If you don't call ahead, you could be setting yourself up for a kind wait.

I've been hesitant to post about this because I feel like a bad fur mommy for not listening to my gut, but I feel like i need to say something. A couple months ago my olivia had to have her leg removed at the hip. she only had about 2/3rds of a leg there to start with so it wasn't an issue. the issue was i went in because she started leaking clear fluid from a tiny hole on that leg. she was obviously in some discomfort. The vet on duty did not even really look at her leg, nor palpate it. All he did was watched how she walked, gave her an antibiotic shot, and sent us on our way. over the weekend it went from bad to worse. her bone started poking out of the hole, and it would have only gotten worse. If i hadn't of gone there first, her leg would have gotten taken care of quicker and she wouldnt have been in pain for that long. very upsetting

I'm very sad with this clinic .I took my dog there and my dog had a ear yeast infection and it started to cover Her body I scene a female doctor who gave her antibiotics and pretizone and it got eagerly worse the I braught her back and male doctor pushed more antibiotics and apaquil. I told him I'm not giving her no more antibiotics he insisted and and gave her more apaquil .when my dog had over growth yeast infectection. Then my dog got worse .they didn't care .so she was put to sleep and when I seen her she was all bloody in her mouth look like she froze to death I have many photos to show of the torture my dog went threw. I'm so broken I can't even sleep or eat

I've always raved about this vet clinic, but that's changed today, and all due to the office staff. We recently moved to IL, and my cat became ill in the very same way he did while we lived in WA. I was able to get a next day appointment scheduled with the new vet, and at that time they stated they would want the records. I sent a message to Spanaway Vet Clinic through their website (since it was after hours), requesting they fax the records, provided the fax number and name of the vet. I arrived at the appointment the next day (yesterday) with my cat to learn they did not receive the records. I didn't think much of it since it was still pretty early in WA. Today, two days after I requested the records, the vet here calls to say she still has not received the records. I call Spanaway Vet and asked why this wasn't done. The person who answered the phone said "we rarely check the online messages". I was and am furious. Don't offer this option if you're not going to follow through. Just disable the option, or retrain your staff on what their daily tasks are.

After waiting a week for an opening to get my dog groomed, I took her in and discussed with the groomer personally what I wanted done. She agreed, said no problem with my requests ( trim her fur shorter with the exception of butt and toes they could be be shaved for her comfort, trim her toenails). I left her in their care. I got a call 30 minutes after I left. The groomer stated that my dog was either to be fully shaved due to some matting on her belly or nothing could be done. I instructed her to just cut away the matting and trim her. She doesn't have to be even, just comfortable. Groomer refused to do anything. They even refused to trim her nails. I went to pick up my dog along with my daughters and they stated I had a bill. I stated that the groomer refused to do anything for my dog because she was not allowed to shave her. Bill was waved and they were not very apologetic. I had to go elsewhere to get my dogs nails trimmed.

Have had good service there then there are all the “spotty” visits. Took our lab in had xrays dog still Ill, well did you want a barium x-ray? Yes of fricking course, oh goodness he has mega esphagous and would die if not tended to. Well $1200 later we got Luther home and still have him in the urn we had to put him in. Feels like the a dollar extraction facility. Out friend took his boy there, dropped him off they called him an hour later said your dog died! He died on the pen they put him in! Terrible, terribly sad, did nothing to save dog but at they have sent dogs owners to collections.

if you think your Pet may need to be euthanized do not bring them to this clinic. They will not allow you to be with them - Pet's familiars are not allowed in procedure rooms. Within 10 seconds of removing my Cat from my arms to be Euthanized they asked if i could step out to the counter and pay for the bill. (i had been crying hysterically through out this entire process and was clearly not ok/ready to go pay my bill)

I called here on a Tuesday around 3:30pm in a panic when my Guinea Pig was sick and no place around would see exotic animals. I was told I could come in as a walk in before 4:30. When I arrived I was greeted kindly and was speaking to the vet within 10-15 minutes. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. I came back a few weeks later after finding out my pig was pregnant. He talked me through everything and gave me copies of information online regarding guinea pig pregnancy and birth. They were very up front with their procedures and what each thing cost. Overall it wasn’t nearly as expensive as I thought it would be. I will definitely intimidating to take my guinea pigs here.

Fabulous vet clinic. Thier practice was recommended to me by a vet tech I highly respect. I have been there several times and am always pleased with how well my pets and I are treated. They truly seem to care about my animals and are always willing to work with me on solutions that best fit us. Veterinary care is expensive but I find their costs to be reasonable and often less than other full service vets. My only complaint is that I wish they were closer to my house so I didn't have to drive 30 minutes with anxious animals, but they are worth it.

Our Belgian malinois has been trained for personal protection, having said that he presents unique challenges for veterinary care, most hospitals do not understand this type of training or even the breed, even a simple shot can be a big deal, this is what separates Spanaway from other hospitals, they LISTEN! They are so considerate and accommodating! We trust them so much we drive from Seattle for all our vet needs, they could charge 3 times more for their services and we would still choose them..... BUT they choose to make vet care affordable for all! Wow! Who does this any more? Keep doing what you do Spanaway, you guys are very special!!

Wonderful vets, ok receptionist, crazy prices and terrible tactics... The vets deserve 5 stars, they were wonderful and kind and helped me with all my questions and concerns about my lil mouse and were UPFRONT about the prices of the different treatments. But.. Some centext, this was my first vet visit. I didn't know what to expect so I went to the spanaway vet website to get a better understanding. No where on the website says a $60 examin fee for anyother animal that is not a dog or a cat. I dont know if i did enough searching but i didn't see prices listed at all, so I assumed that it was a case by case pricing (what needed to be done, in clinic treatment, surgery, ect.) I came 10 minutes before my scheduled appointment, mentioned i was NEW, and the lady handed me a standard information paper to fill out about me and my animal (no pricing or fees listed) Yet again, i looked around for pricing information but there was non to be found. We got into a room, got checked by the very nice vets for mouse mites (visual examination), discussed treatment options for my guy and they sent me off to pay what I assumed was just for the treatment because the examination only took 20 minutes of just looking at my mouse. I came up to the desk and the lady asked for $87. I asked what the additional $60 was for and she said it was for the examination. I asked: $60 just to look at my mouse? She said it was $60 for all pets that are not cat or dog. If you guys had a SET (over) PRICE(d) for examinations then shouldn't you guys have it posted? Anywhere for that matter?? Kind of sucks and made it a little harder for me being a broke college student working 2 jobs being swindled like that but a business is a business i suppose.

I made an appointment for my cat to get checked out for an UTI 2 days ago. I get in there with her today and there is no appointment for her. I was told that 9am is for surgeries. And that I called the wrong vet. I know who I called cause my mom in law recommended them to me. I stuck her in her carrier, which she absolutely hates just to get told there wasn't an appointment made for her, when I know I did. So that means someone removed her from the appointment log to put an animal on the there that needed surgery, which is fine but I would've like to have received a phone call telling me this on the 14th, instead of what I had to put my cat through. Will not be going back again!

Oscar, the only cat that has ever claimed us as family, was a patient here. Daisy, Buffy, Meeka, Angel,Molly,and Rosie have been, and are patients at VCA. Over 15yrs. of excellent veterinary care has been given to our 4 legged family members. We didn't have alot of money to spend on medical bills, but that was never an issue with the staff at VCA. Many veterinary office's cannot make that claim. You can trust VCA, to give your family the very best veterinary care available anywhere.

Had a wonderful experience! Called in a panic on a Saturday about an orphaned kitty. They got me right in and everyone was so nice and professional! Treated the kitty quickly and kindly! Front desk staff is nice and efficient. The office has a nice welcoming feel. Unfortunately the vet I saw was with me for less than two minutes and seemed as if they didn't care for my replies or questions and concerns. It was like they didn't care to listen to what had happened or what was going on. I had to call them back just to try and get some of my questions answered and they made it known it was not appreciated. They made me feel dismissed and not worth their time. I was given wrong information by the technician who answered a question without having an actual answer. Over all I would not trust the well-being of my pet to them again. My pet is family, I don't need to pay someone to treat me or my family in that manner.

This office has treated all of my dogs a total of 4 over the last 15 years. I have received nothing but the best care from everyone in the office. If you want them to do a groom which they are excellent at, I have the biggest baby ever, you will have to show your dog has had their shots and if a current patient they have to be current with their annual exam. I appreciate this because I would not want my fur babies to be kenneled next to a sick critter. Great Vet!

Called the day before I went in to ask if they had any openings for that day they informed me that they were all booked. But they could get me in the next day. So I made the appointment or so I thought. The only thing that they left out was that I was a walk in. I would have went somewhere else if I would have known that. The vet was good. That's the only reason I gave them three stars.

I’ve been a customer of Spanaway Vet Clinic for a couple years now. They are our go to for our animals dog, cat, reptiles, and frogs. They have an exotic pet exam fee, so expect that, they are very knowledgeable about reptiles (bearded dragons) which I love. Prices are pretty decent. Both doctors are really good and compassion. Would recommend for all animals.

If I could rate this 0/5 I would. Came in to get my rabbit's teeth checked out and came out with a paralyzed rabbit. He weighed 4lbs...how hard is it to restrain an animal that small? They claim to be very experienced with rabbits, but obviously not. After being charged nearly half a grand they had the nerve to tell me it would not cost much to put him down. He only lived for a few days...he was my first pet, I wish I never took him here.

This clinic has been so patient with me during a chaotic time for my hedgehog. They saw me with no notice (when multiple other clinics could not get me in for 3-4 days, if at all) and have been very accommodating and reasonable during the whole process. I highly recommend!
