My family chooses the Whitefield animal hospital because it's doctors and staff love animals. The very good at what they do and they care not just about the people but also about the animals. Every time I bring my two dogs in there always very very busy which tells me that they do a good practice. It's a Small Town practice with a big heart!

maranda demers

My fur baby loves Dr Doug! Friendly, understanding and caring staff. Seems reasonably priced.

Well excuse me... I don't understand why they're so rude here. My cat was having some pretty serious issues with his bowel movements and they just kind of shrug you off here. No "bedside manners" at all. They were quick, I'll give them that but only because you can tell they didn't want us there. Gross. Go somewhere else for good care.

Harry Robertson

Really nice Vets and staff and very reasonable prices.

I love it, they are courteous, friendly, helpful. The doctor and staff are very good with the animals. I love this place its close to home. I recommend this vet to anyone who has pets. Its very convenient for me. My pets are my kids and im glad in found this place.

Alaine Plourde

Dr. Plumley is an excellent Vet. He takes the extra time to explain things instead of trying to hurry you through. The staff are always very friendly. When my beloved Freya passed away I was upset and called them. Kim was so very kind and helped to ease my grief.

I just read the two scathing reviews just below and can hardly believe these people are referring to the same place as the one I've been to several times. The staff has always been respectful, kind, friendly, sympathetic and helpful in my experience. Their compassion for our pets goes beyond wanting to get a buck from us. I know, for a fact, that the vets on staff will come in the middle of the night to attend to a pet's needs and often shed tears with the clients when sad and difficult decisions must be made. Perhaps there was a miscommunication and a rush to judgement for these negative persons. It makes no sense to me that an animal hospital would refuse to treat a pet when that is what they do! Calling after hours one can't expect a tech or secretary to call in a prescription. Isn't that what the doc does? I wasn't aware that there were arrangements one could make if they were on food stamps or SSI! It's my understanding that Whitefield Animal Hospital will set up a payment schedule for those in need. Apparently, there is a need for educating clients on what it takes to be a veterinarian. That they go to 4 years of vet school, beyond the 4 years of college - just like an m.d. for humans. They use the same techniques for surgery, anesthetizing, and medicating their patients as do family practitioners and surgeons, only they need to know how to treat several different species of animals that can't give them any feedback on how they feel. Do they also know that their own medical doctor probably tried to get into vet school but couldn't? It's much easier to get into medical school than vet school. Perhaps WAH should make up a brochure which is stapled to the bill to explain why it costs so much. It's still way cheaper than a visit to a people doc. And then there's the fact that staff needs to be paid and utilities bills met. Both vets are probably still paying for their own educations. Have you noticed what cars they drive? These are not wealthy people! This has been quite a rant, I know, but it steams me to think that just because they love animals vets ought to treat them for free. They would if they could, but they're probably just making ends meet. Shame on those negative people who wrote in!

5 weeks ago my cat was diagnosed with diabetes. As part of the treatment plan at Whitefield Animal Hospital, I was assured that in case of an emergency, all I had to do was call any time. At 2:00AM Friday morning, my cat started seizing. I called the number on the card I was given. I then had to call another number, left a frantic message, then had to call the pager number. I did this over and over for 30 minutes while my beloved cat's seizures worsened. I finally found Littleton Area Emergency vet services on West Main St-called them, immediately spoke to a human, who told me to bring my cat right in. By 4:30AM they were running tests, soon I found my cat had an inoperable tumor and had to be put down. So much for the 24 hour so called emergency services offered by Whitefield Animal Hospital. I will never do business with them again, even though they are right down the road from me. They failed to provide the essential services they promised. Don't take a chance with your pet's health. you never know when an emergency might occur and these people will not be available to you. By the way, they never did call me back in response to my emergency, what's that tell you?

My 14 year old doggie daughter was barely walking due to her arthritis when we brought her in to the hospital. They listened to every word we said, gave us many options and started treatment immediately. Kim and the techs have been vital in our daughter's arthritis treatment. The laser therapy has been an absolute Godsend. We are so lucky to have found this amazing place with fabulous, caring and kind people.

I have used this clinic for several years, as the now retired owner was such a good vet and excellent with my horses. Unfortunately, since he retired we've had several issues, including them stopping farm calls which was probably for the best as the new vet did not know how to behave around horses or that you don't move a bad "stick" around looking for a vein when you miss. However, we kept going with our dogs and cat. We had one good experience where they stayed when my cat had an infected animal bite. Sadly, that was one that didn't balance out the others. We currently have a Greyhound who APPEARS to have a neurological problem. I say appears because they have been unable to diagnose it. When he got much worse the past couple of days and I suspected a UTI, we took a sample down and they did find that he does. I was told by the receptionist who called that she'd call a prescription in in the MORNING. This was just before 5 PM. I said it had to be tonight but she claimed that was too late. The pharmacist is at our drugstore until 8 PM, so apparently this was too late for HER. I got her to promise to call it in. Instead of getting off the phone she lectured me that the vets said I should put the dog down. Yes, they said because they can't diagnose the initial problem and he has a TREATABLE UTI he should be killed. I explained that I realized it might be necessary but that I wasn't going to do that until I knew it was. We have an appointment with another clinic some ways away already ,but will have to postpone because of the UTI. She finally agreed to call the pharmacy tonight. But she didn't. Having lectured me until 5 pm, apparently she decided to go home instead. UTI's are miserable. He's suffering greatly, but has to wait until morning for their convenience to make a phone call. I am so saddened that this wonderful clinic has gone so badly downhill and that they show no caring for a dog's suffering except to claim it as a reason to destroy a dog who may well be treatable (and whose worse problem actually is a treatable UTI). This is shameful! I will have to find another vet, which is difficult in this rural area. Tonight I will sit with my poor, suffering dog who could be on his way right now to getting an infection cleared up, but must wait until it's convenient for them to call.

Amazing staff. Although they cant help someone in a financial pinch with payment plans they show real compassion and treat you with nothing but respect. I have been going to then for many years as has my entire family...

Very good people & vets.

We've recently moved to the area. Our first visit was an emergency. Reception got us in quickly. Both the vet and the techs were knowledgeable and friendly. Cat number two needed a checkup and shots. Once again, every member of the team put us at ease. Our third, fourth, and fifth furry felines have now scheduled their appointments. I'm happy to say we've found a excellent place to help keep our fur babies healthy and happy.

They have always treated my animals with the best of care.

I used to go there a couple years ago, the vet was nice enough but didn't really seem to care too much about my problems with my cat. I went back several times with the same issues and he always said she seemed fine and didn't spend more than 10 minutes examining her and no lab tests. (I was a single young woman at the time, I don't think they really care if they assume you don't have much money like that other reviewer said. I have never needed any kind of assistance btw) I ended up going to Dr. Anderson in Lancaster because I was getting nowhere at the Whitefield vet and let me tell you he is so amazing and caring! His staff is great too and very kind and knowledgeable. Dr. Anderson did all he could (which was a lot) he ran tests he advised me to change her diet, when I had an emergency he got me right in and didn't even charge me full price for it! Eventually it was realized that there was nothing else we could do so I made the hardest decision of my life and decided to put my beautiful 7 year old cat to sleep. Dr. Anderson was going on vacation just before i made the decision so one of his assistants said I could have it done at the Whitefield vet. I didn't want to (especially in Whitefield) but it had to be done so I made the appointment. I went there with my cat and was understandably feeling crushed and emotional, I went to the receptionist and told her of my appointment (trying not to cry, to at least be able to get through it) and she starts right in on me saying "your cat is young, why are you doing this?" I say "because no one could help me, I've tried for years to find out what's wrong with her and no one could figure it out" (I was referred to them, they knew the case) She told me they could not take my appointment, that I had to leave! Mind you, I didn't say anything in anger or rudely! Sadly yes. As a person obviously in pain, yes! Realizing that she was kicking me out(I've NEVER been kicked out of anywhere in my life!) because she didn't have an empathetic bone in her body and was obviously very arrogant, turned me to rage! (I don't think she liked the comment "no one has helped me" she must have taken that offensively. She didn't care about my cat, just her pride) I said do you think I'm being snotty?! Do you not realize that I don't want to have to do this?! How much I've been through?! I was screaming by then, never been so upset before. I left and NEVER went back again! This is how they treat people that don't drive nice cars and who's families they don't know (I lived in Whitefield for a combined 13 years, my mother used to bring her animals there but had remarried so they wouldn't have recognized my last name) If that red haired large loud woman is still there remember what I have written, this is the kind of person they hire to interact with the public, that says a lot about a place. Dr. Anderson's girls wouldn't treat someone like this because HE wouldn't stand for it. He is a good man and vet.

I cant say enough about the staff they were kind, patient and let me have enough time to stay with my dog until she was not in any pain or discomfort anymore

The veterinarians and staff at Whitefield Animal Hospital are exceptional! I have two dogs that receive care at the hospital and I continue to be impressed by the level of professionalism and knowledge that all staff members’ exhibit. I have had my canine patrol partner since he was 11 weeks old and he has gone to Whitefield Animal Hospital for regular check-ups, shots and surgery--I attribute his overall excellent physical condition to Dr. Plumley, Dr. Lefavour and their staff. Pet owners in the North Country are truly lucky to have such a wonderful place to bring their pets for veterinary care.

Brought older dog there that had cloudy pee for a couple of days. Vet prescribed penacillin after looking at urine.and return with urine sample after 10 days. Again prescribed penacillin and return with urine sample. Told vet I wanted to talk to her after she examined it as I was leaving town for extended period and dog would be with family. She left the office without calling and I only got results from office personall AFTER I called them. Nice. More of the same medicine, BTW the cloudy pee had disappeared after the few days. Forward 1 week I am in MN working and the dog gets very ill. Family takes him to his old vet far from where I live now. First thing the vet does is run a tick panel. Anaplasma. And only responds to one medicine. Could have been a done deal 2 weeks before I left town if vet had done tick panel. It was never discussed. Now I am home and out the 6 weeks of 12 hour days pay and a months rent plus travel expenses. But hey, my pal needed me and family had a full plate. I will Never go back there. Totally lost confidence in them.

Waited beyond my scheduled time for Jackson's appointment time. A frustrated customer, expressing her reason for wanting her pet looked at now. The employee explained to her that the Dr. was in surgery. Not good!! The technicians were great with Jackson. They were wanting to take precautions because of his past behavior. I mentioned to them that doing so would probably stress him out. If one tech could hold him still, while the other tech give him the shot, I believed he would be fine. Jackson had a good experience this time! Thank you, Jackson and his mom

I place great value on the high standard of care provided to my dog by Dr. Plumley. I also appreciate the friendly staff. Emergency service is also a reason I recommend Whitefield Animal Hospital.

Scott Mosher

Absolutely phenomenal!

Paul Levang

Truly excellent veterinarian. When our dog had a bowl obstruction, they were both reasonable in their estimates and helpful with their counsel. They did a fine job of caring both for the well-being of the pet and needs of the owner. Dr. LeFavour took time with us through it all. Thank you!

Merissa Couture

This place has an amazing staff. They took very good care of my cat.

Mavi Winchester

I've never been here but I just called because I was told that they offer programs for those who have foodstamps or on SSI. I don't know the name of the lady as she didn't give it to me, which is a good thing. She got very rude with me when I asked and said "Animals are very expensive" indicating that I am cheap and etc. I've always taken care of my animals and got them fixed and etc and now that I am older and the cat is 13 YEARS OLD and I have low income doesn't mean I am going to stop caring for them I just can't afford outrageous vet bills. So I got an attitude with her that some places do offer that and I was told this was one so I was check. She didn't like the attitude back and hung up. If they can't be decent on the phone then they sure can't be decent in person!

Michelle S

Dr. Plumley is great. He treats my dog like he sincerely cares for her health. The costs are less expensive than vets I have seen in the past. I will recommend him in the future.
