Here you will see the reviews of real people who purchased the products and services of Peak Veterinary Referral Center (Veterinarian) near Vermont.
Currently this firm has a rating of 4.6 out of 5 and this rating has been based on 113 reviews.
As you can see its rating is nearly the best, and it is based on a large number of feddbacks, so we may think that the assessment is quite accurate. If many people have bothered to evaluate when they are happy, it works.
You know that we do not usually bother to place reviews when these are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Veterinarian corresponds to the category of Animal hospital.
We moved from an area where, when we needed specialists we went to Cornell. This place obviously is smaller but you couldn't get a nicer staff. The doctors are top notch and make you feel at ease and that you're getting the best possible treatment.
Brought my 10 yr old Shih Tzu for a successful surgery years ago. Now I bring my 5 yr old Great Dane there for the cardiologist. Friendly prompt service. Both dogs doing great!
Always impressed
I returned to Peak VRC from out of state for my dog to have a surgery there, where she was originally diagnosed. The surgery was expensive and while I was aware of some post surgical complications, my own experiences did not match any that I was apprised of. I contacted the department involved in her surgery via phone and email multiple times in the weeks following her surgery to let them know of her condition and to ask what I could/should do given her post-op complications. Now, almost a month later, no one has responded. The surgery was a complete failure and did not correct, or even moderately, improve her condition. So while that is super disappointing, what's worse is just the complete lack of post-op communication. I will say this was not reflective of my previous experience with Peak and VT Eye which is why I chose to have her surgery there.
Top notch care from Drs that care.
Great care great people.
Let's just get this right out of the way, this place is not cheap. That said, if you are a caring, loving pet owner, the price that you pay for quality care isn't even a factor. The staff is knowledgeable, compassionate and understanding. After a bout with a kidney infection that would just not go away, my local vet referred my 16 year old fur baby to Peak for IV fluids and ultrasound. Dr. Rondeau was amazing, treating my cat as if it was as important as her own and explaining every step of the process for getting her back on her paws. Charges were explained in detail and we were sent home with all of the necessary medications and instructions for maintaining her care ourselves. It's every pet owners nightmare to have to seek intensive/24-hour care for their little one, but driving out of the parking lot on the first night, I was comforted by the fact that they would look after Sophie as intently and as compassionately as I would (and with much more medical expertise).
They were able to get us an appointment the day after my dogs eye started swelling. Very clean and comfortable facility. Very kind staff and you can tell they like animals. Dr Hoy was very thorough and was able to diagnose the problem and come up with a treatment plan that day.
I love Peak. The people are great, Dr. Ash is so wonderful, I never worry how my furbabies are being treated. They love her almost as much as I do! I highly recommend them.
It's a great place for sick animals
Last winter our little 2.50 lb Chi Lily Beans broke her front leg and we took her immediately to BEVS, who in turn referred us directly to Peak and Dr. Schultz. Dr. Schultz was amazing! He was very professional and in doing so he did not try to pull the wool over our eyes. He explained in detail what was going to happen, and it wasn't going to be easy because she was so small. He expedited the metal plate and pins and she was in surgery the next morning. Dr. Schultz and the entire staff were so caring about our little girl. It was (excuse the expression) "hell" to go through. I think we felt as bad - if not worse than Lily. Ultimately we know now she was in the best hands! Dr. Schultz and the entire team are dedicated, caring, professionals! They do what they do because it is their passion! We are very fortunate to have the Peak team and facility so close by!
Friendly caring staff. Top notch Veterinarians
Impression place for the special care of your beloved pet .
I just read what the people write to recommend other customers and I not agree. No one says how match it cost this help if we can call it that.My dog did not have adequate treatment and still have to pay checks that does not help my dog and me either.I think that these most like my and your money and not dogs, cats and other animals. Because I do not want anyone to recommend.
My pup has been treated very well at Dermatology for Animals located in the same building as Peak. We have his disease under control and communication and understanding with Dr. Jazic has been phenomenal.
Knowledgeable & professional.
Very good. Saved my puppy.
These veterinarians are the best of the best. They've saved my dog twice from obstructiins, no easy feat!
We had an excellent visit to Peak. Our pup gives us quite a bit of opportunity to visit all kinds of vet offices and Peak was one of the best facilities we've ever taken her to. Hopefully we don't ever have to go back, but for anyone needing specialized care for their pet we would highly recommend.
Dr. Hoy and the staff at Peak did an amazing job caring for our terrified and completely uncooperative Rottie who had an eye injury. Now, thanks to Dr. Hoy's treatment, Luna is almost fully recovered. Everything from setting the appointment, to checking in and out to the care itself was professional, timely and friendly. I highly recommend this vet center.
True professionals, great attention to detail and well worth the trip if you want medical specialists for your pet.
Compassionate & extremely talented
Very polite and professional staff. Clean facility and affordable Care.
Brought my dog here for an ultrasound. It's very clean and modern establishment friendly atmosphere.
The news we received was tough from the doctor, but she explained everything with compassion and respect. I didn't enjoy the visit, but our treatment was superb. I'm grateful for vets like these.
Many knowledgeable specialists here, and is very local for northern Vermont. They have your furry fiend's best interest in mind: always. Also, Driving to Dartmouth or Angell Memorial is quite a hike.
I am editing my original post. I emailed the owners about my experience and after consideration the Center decided to refund my almost 1/2 my fee. The most important part was that they also took responsibility for their errors and apologized. This was as important to me as the money - I understand that we all make mistakes and I respect someone who will say, I was wrong and I'm sorry. Hopefully I will never be in the position to need emergency services again, however if so, I will probably go back to Peak if that is what is recommended. I cannot express what a negative experience we had with Peak. They totally misread the Ultrasound that they did telling me "my dog definitely had a blockage", asked for more xrays and then suggested a scope to remove the blockage. $2,188 later and my dog has Kennel Cough! My dog was there for hours and she was coughing plenty of times and they never even listed to her breathing. I will never go back to this place and will tell all pet owners I know to stay away!
We were referred to Peak by our regular vet when our dog had shown some signs of a blockage, the third one actually. After his last surgery our regular vet was not confident Zakk would survive another one, but referred us to Peak to explore other possible options. Peak did the ultrasound and confirmed it was a blockage but their confidence in being able to complete a successful surgery was refreshing. The surgery was scheduled for that afternoon and was completed successfully later that evening. Unfortunately, our boy had some life threatening complications the morning after; Peak was very attentive and notified us immediately. They care about each and every animal that walks through their door. Anytime we called or visited, we were greeted by name - and that feeling was very comforting at such a stressful time. Our boy spent a total of 10 days at Peak, after 5 days of life threatening and extremely expensive treatments, we were able to bring him home. Our bill ended just over the $18,000 mark. Our relationship with Peak, Dr.'s Miraelle and Kurt, Alicia and all the staff, has only grown since Zakk has been home. We are eternally grateful for Peak's compassion, expertise and care.
Kind professionals who are clearly expert in helping animals
My pup suffers from uveitis as a complication of Lyme disease. Dr. Hoy and the staff at Peak are timely, knowledgeable and have successfully kept the the uveitis in check against the odds.
Way too expensive and they don't explain the risks of their procedures clearly. Expect you to pay for any extra tests/procedures they perform during your "free" follow-up visit. I highly recommend going someplace else. I believe there's another place in the Portsmouth, NH area that's much better and probably a lot cheaper.
Everyone cares about your pet
Excellent work but damn aren't they expensive. 5 stars for quality, 1 star for prices.
Sometimes vet visit are not to heal but to prepare to say goodbye to your best friend. Peak has been amazing at helping us through this tough time, clearly explaining all the options, benefits, and pitfalls, and preparing us for the inevitable. I highly recommend them as there expertise is unparalleled in the area. We hope that our animal companions don't need the vets but when they do it's great to know the staff at Peak is there!
Our dog was injured at a very financially inopportune time, and the initial cast had to be fully recast which was unexpected for us. Nobody expects their animal to be seriously injured, but it's even more shocking when you have to go through the same process again. There were some complications with the recast, but Peak actively worked with us towards resolving these issues, and went above and beyond in their service to us and our puppy. My recommendation would be to ask about any risks associated with a procedure ahead of time, and engage in conversation early and often.
No one could fix my dog i almost had to put her down ,with 3 days at peak shes running around catching balls !! Thanks peak so much!!!
Some the best, and most compassionate people you'll find. Took great care of my lil Frenchie!!
Very profesional and modern veterinary facility. I would say a bit expensive, but then again all vet services are! The cardiologist there was very nice, straightforward and sympathetic. I would definitely recommend Peak to anyone needing specialized veterinary services.
Outstanding staff and skilled veterinarians!
Dr. Schulz did a bilateral TPLO on my lab/mastiff dog. He took the time to really explain everything at the consult, and I had the option to either have the surgery done that day or schedule for another day. I chose to wait a little while, and they were able to fit me in the next week on the best day for my schedule. Since she was having surgery while I was at work and it's hard to call me when I'm working, Dr. Schulz had a member of the team text me updates during the surgery (starting, when changing sides), after everything was done, and when she woke up. I called a few times during the night to check on her, and never felt like I was annoying anyone. When I picked her up the next day, everything was explained carefully to me, including the warning that the swelling would get a lot worse and extend down her leg. Dr. Schulz also showed me the x-rays so I could see what exactly was done and the difference in the pre-op and post-op knees. My dog is allergic to the antibiotic they typically use, so they gave her a different one that's more expensive, but didn't charge me extra for it. Since she came home on a Friday, I was given his cell phone number in case I had questions or problems. I did call him once (and felt bad about it!), but he was more than willing to talk to me about my question and reassure me that I could call again if needed. He also called me regular vet to touch base with her and make sure I could also call her if needed. The two week and eight week appointments were equally as good. I've spent a lot of time talking about the surgery because people see the bare patch on her back from the epidural, and I spend half my time talking about how amazingly she's doing, and the other half of my time talking about how fantastic Dr. Schulz and the staff are. I met another one of his patients in the waiting room, and she had equally great things to say. The surgery was expensive, but Dr. Schulz is completely worth every penny. If any of my animals had an orthopedic issue, I wouldn't even consider going anywhere else.
Our experience with Peak Veterinary was outstanding. I cannot possibly say enough positive things about how caring, compassionate and professional they are at Peak. Our miniature dachshund had herniated a disk in his back and completely lost the use of his back legs. We were referred to Dr. Schultz at Peak by our own vet and we're so thankful for that referral. Peak saw us immediately and from the moment we walked in the door we were treated with care and concern by a staff of pure professionals. Our dog is more than a dog to us, he is our child, our companion, and he helps to complete our life. Peak treated not only us and our dog but every client and patient we saw during our time there like family. We are happy to say that our little guy is back walking again, and back to most of his old tricks only 2 weeks after successful surgery. On our follow up visit, the staff at Peak cheered with us when they saw him walk into the appt on his own 4 feet! I would highly recommend Peak, without any reservations to anyone. They are honest, compassionate, professional and they treat everyone with respect and dignity. Thanks is just not enough for this outstanding team of people!
When my German Shepherd/Corgi mix ruptured a cruciate ligament, Dr. Schulz recommended TPLO surgery, because my girl is an agility dog and we hoped she could continue to agility. She loves it! Thanks to Dr. Schultz's surgical expertise, the great staff at PEAK, and their very fine physical therapist, Nancy Zimny, Logan recovered extremely well. After just a few weeks, Logan's walking gait looked pretty normal. The hardest part was limiting her until she was cleared to go off lead. As soon as she was feeling better she really wanted to run. We followed the good advice of Dr. Schulz and Nancy, and after 13 or 14 weeks, Logan was back to agility. Six months after her surgery, she started competing again. She had already completed her Open Jumpers title, but I kept her in Open for 2 trails after her recovery, then moved her up to Jumpers Excellent. She completed her Excellent title quickly, and is now working on her Jumpers Masters title. In Standard agility, we are continuing to work on her contacts, but she now goes over the A Frame with no hesitation. She is feeling more confident on the Dog Walk, and we are working on conquering the teeter. She is a happy, happy girl, thanks to the great folks at PEAK.
Very friendly staff..
Great staff and doctor's
for the most part our experience was positive with Peak. they were able to take the tumor out of our dogs eye successfully and our dog recovered quickly. our main displeasure came with how they bill you. we were given an estimate (surgery, medicine, doctors etc) before the surgery that would cover the entire procedure... the surgery came in within their quote... great. however they never told us that the multiple follow up exams were not covered. every bill we had (initial visit, surgery bill, medicine), we paid at the end of the visit. then all of the sudden, we get a phone call, months later saying we owe them more money for the follow ups... ?? this should have been disclosed at the beginning of the whole deal and certainly before we left our last appointment. this was very frustrating, especially when we thought our very expensive ordeal was done with.
I have brought my dog to Peak for an eye issue and allergy issues spent thousands of dollars there within the last year. I am out of the state with a sick parent and they can't refill some eye drops for my dogs dry eye. Insisting that come in for an exam 1st when that is impossible. Wow I am just in shock!
Peak Veterinary referral had some of the best Vets anywhere around. My dog has a bad heart and Dr. Brown there has been extremely proficient in treating him. Dr. Bolton has also been extremely good as well . The whole staff is very loving and kind to the pets they treat. I can't say enough good things about them.
They take great care in treating your best friends.
Great, friendly professional staff. Excellent veterinary care. Very happy with the care our Kenji received.
Friendly staff.
They are the best. Dr. Hoy and her staff are the kindest most caring people. Highly recommend them for any care your pet needs.
We run a nonprofit in New Hampshire that rescues disabled dogs, and we have taken at least a dozen different animals to Peak Veterinary Referral Center over the past two years. We have seen every specialist at Peak during that time -- the surgeon, both internists, cardiologist, oncologist, ophthalmologist, radiologist and physical therapist. This is an amazing place, full of talented, caring, highly trained veterinary specialists backed by a wonderful team of professional support staff. We have always been impressed with the superb standard of care our animals receive at Peak. The atmosphere is friendly, collegial, and very caring. We use our local vet for the routine things, but for anything else, Peak is where we take our dogs. I noticed some reviewers have said Peak is "expensive," but I guess that depends on what skills and capabilities your local vet has and what they charge for. Considering the kind of care and medical expertise you get at Peak, we don't see it as expensive at all, just worth the value we're getting in advanced veterinary care for our dogs. Indeed, because Peak has all these specialists under the same roof, we've been able to save money by getting everything done in one place at one time, and getting a definitive diagnosis and treatment plan, all in the same day. We definitely recommend Peak, and feel lucky to have them.
Dr. March and the staff at Peak are terrific.. he showed so much care and detail during our neurological consult, and put my worst fears to rest about the sudden behavioral changes that my older dog experienced. Thank you so much for your excellent service, and while I hope I don't have to see you again.. I know others will benefit from your expertise and compassion.
At Peak, you'll no doubt find the very best Veteranians! Often we look for high quality health care and search high the world over for the best ... at Peak, they are the #1 professionals at caring for your loving furry friend. After 2 surgeries for torn ACL''s on our 100 pound dog, Thor ... they guided us through the entire process and today, we have our dog back to a full lifestyle. We cannot thank them enough and Dr. Schultz is an expert! Thank you to everyone at Peak Veterinary Referral. Dr. Schultz is the best!
Absolutely WONDERFUL experience with both the specialists we saw for my young Border Collie! We had been referred to Dr. Hoy in ophthalmology & later Dr Hoy had him visit with the Neurologist. Not only were both specialists beyond excellent, knowledgeable, kind & so good with my boy (whom was not on his best behavior much to my chagrin) but their techs were JUST as wonderful & knowledgeable. The staff up front at the main desk was equally amazing- kind, helpful, welcoming, knowledgeable & they truly do go the extra mile. The facility itself is well set up, neat, & impeccably clean. Even in the busy waiting & entrance areas- Not an easy task on any day, let alone one where it had been, & still @ times was pouring rain. I'm exceptionally pleased with the entire experience they provided.
Dr Hoy the opthalmologist is AMAZING!!!!!! Office is beautiful too!
Nice people
Clean and tidy office with knowledgable providers that take the time to listen to you. I was referred here by my primary vet for an ultrasound. Both the tech and the veterinarian were very nice and accommodating.
My Siberian Huskey blew out both his knees, it felt like no one wanted to help us. We finally called Peak and they squeezed him in that day. They talked us through what happened and how they were going to fix it. They tried to prepare us for the tough road ahead of us. They did operation on one leg, when that one was strong enough after a couple weeks, we scheduled another time to do the other leg. From the end of May to middle of October, he is now running around being a normal dog again. Thank You Dr. Kurt Schulz and staff for the excellent service.
We came in for an ultrasound on our puppy, as we were referred by our vet. The initial staff was great! The vet I spoke to about the results wasn't the most helpful or descriptive but as I understand, the results didn't show much. I was shunned for my dog having a full stomach, impeding a full exam of his liver, but I was never informed that he needed to be fasted when I scheduled his appointment. I never received a call to confirm his appointment, and called myself the same day before traveling an hour and a half. What I'm most upset about is the COMPLETE HACK JOB of a shave job they did on my dog. His entire abdomen is full of random patches of varying hair lengths and he has had irritated, red patches since immediately after the exam. There is obvious scabbing where the buzzer met the ribs and came too close in contact several times with the delicate, abdominal skin. I never entered the room of the procedure and was left in the waiting area so I can only imagine the fear and pain my dog endured during what should have been a routine grooming process at a specialist clinic
Our 6 month old Golden Retriever was hit by a car in late January of 2017. It was a devastating experience. His leg and pelvis were shattered. Thank goodness our vet referred us to Peak immediately. Dr. Schulz and his team were AMAZING. They provided top-of-the-line care before, during, and after surgery. Our dog is as good as new.....better than ever, actually. Dr. Schulz and his staff called many times during our dog's hospital stay, and even after he returned home. We couldn't have asked for a better, more compassionate group of vets and techs. Peak Veterinary Referral Center is a class act!!
Professional and caring staff
Great staff , extremely caring and accommodating.
AMAZING staff and doctors here! My Bernese Mtn Dog had 2 TPLO surgeries here, and all the staff was attentive, professional, and broke down information nicely so that I was able to understand. Would definitely come here again for specialist care!
Helpful and caring staff.
I had an overall good experience working with Dr. Hoy to resolve a eye injury my puppy had sustained by a cat claw which perforated the cornea and nicked the lens. The vet techs we dealt with are great - intelligent, caring and compassionate. Everyone took time to explain what was happening and why, and what the options were to address it. As far as cost, I feel as though BEVS (Burlington Emergency Vet Service) was much more expensive and less effective when our dog had developed a fever, came in with the e-collar and a injured eye, and they tested her for a urinary tract infection and Lymes disease (it was the eye...). All charges were explained at Peak, their drug costs were much cheaper than what my pharmacy charged for one refill of an eye drop for glaucoma ($87 at pharmacy, $34. at Peak). Dr. Hoy , the ophthalmologist was able to be contacted off-hours for questions/concerns and is confident in her work. I even got a second opinion from a Tufts Veterinary School ophthalmologist who concurred with all the treatment my pup was receiving.
The best place! They saved my precious dog from a terrible side tumor that attached to his heart. They surgically removed said tumor and we ended up owing them money as it went over the estimate due to unforseen complications. He almost died due to the heart attachment and they ended up going in again surgically. They never wavered or spoke about money. They only cared about saving him. They allow me to pay them off monthly. I appreciate this place greatly. Lovely people and wonderfully smart doctors!
It took a very long time, a lot of money and several "specialists" at peak to diagnose our dog with cancer. We spent nearly $12,000 on treatments that did NOTHING to extend or make better his life. They did procedures without going over the costs. I didn't find some of the doctors all that empathetic and the front desk people(some of them) were down right rude. Not a good experience.
Dr. Goossens and her staff were very skilled and compassionate. My dog is on the way to recovery with their care.
Our dog received unparalleled care at Peak. He needed his second ACL repaired and I wish we'd done the first with Peak as well. This was a more labor intensive surgery (TPLO) than the first (intracapsular) and we expected him to be in more pain with this repair. But the opposite was the case! He regained mobility sooner and recovery was far speedier than when we went with a less intensive and CLEARLY less successful repair. He is 11 years old and we are all happy clients. Dr. Schultz and the entire staff at Peak were super thorough and expedient. The team was compassionate and so professional. You truly do get what you pay for.
Excellent care, very sensitive and caring staff, excellent doctors. We have seen two different specialists there and were thrilled with each of them.
Best specialized pet care in VT
I only stumbled upon PEAK due to a referral from my local vet. My dog had an extended stay at PEAK for 10 days.. He was admitted as a critical care patient. I have never been exposed to such a compassionate, dedicated, and professional group of not only doctors, but the entire staff. They showed great patience in explaining complicated analysis and diagnostics, Also, I received updates often several times a day or night, from the doctor. Meeting me after hours for emergency follow up visit. My calls with questions and observations were always responded to in a timely manner. Casey is not yet "out of the woods". but he is out of PEAK and slowly recovering...and PEAK is right there working in conjunction with my local vet to to give him the best chance of survival. Though hard to qualify when you arrive at PEAK, be assured, you get more than you pay for at PEAK...more than just a great value for sure. Regardless of Casey's outcome, I can truly objectively say that he was in the best place. Definitely, the best place he could have been. Wish they would take Casey and my others as regular patients!
