REVIEWS OF Natchez Trace Veterinary Services - Nashville IN Tennessee

Becki Baumgartner

My German Shorthair Retriever will be 16 in April. She was having trouble getting up and down the stairs and suffering from arthritis pain in her hind legs. She was on a dry food diet. After coming to Natchez Trace Veterinary Services in 2012, I switched her to a diet of Pet-Tao Pet Food (designed by Dr. Smith & Damron of Natchez Trace Vet Services), and put her on Adequan injections and Pine Bark Extract supplement. The changes in her motility amazed me - she was able to get up and down the stairs again and started wearing a path around the perimeter of our back yard again, just like she had years ago. Two years later, she is still doing very well! I'm very happy with the changes!

Professional, compassionate, and friendly staff. Dr. Smith and his team are amazing with pets and people!

Went here today based on reviews in hopes of curing an issue that recently took the like of my Shepherds brother. I was thoroughly impressed. My normal vet is 2 minutes from me. I believe I’ll be taking all my dogs here now even though it’s an hour drive. Well worth it. If I’d known of this place sooner. We probably would still have our boy.

Becky Coble

Best vet we have ever found! Took such good care of our sweet dog. Such a friendly and loving team of people!

We drive 4.5 hours to see Dr. Smith and would drive longer. He is fantastic at holistically treating your pet while still making rational decisions. Excellent vet!!

Dr. Smith and his staff are wonderful. He helped me find out what was wrong with my pup when no one else could figure it out. I was worried I might have to put my dog Deisel to sleep because he was suffering from severe pain and everyone else had said there was nothing more that could be done. He not only figured it out but within a week my dog was back to normal with an antibiotic for a tick bite of all things. They truly care, highly recommended!

Joyce Dierschke

You can tell Natchez Trace Vet really cares about animals and the community by they way they go above and beyond your normal vet offerings. Their free classes and lectures are fantastic - informative, educational, and fun too. I like the way they never assume there is just one way of looking at an issue; they try to find the best way for you and your pet. Thumbs up.

Dr. Marc Smith is treating our Boston Terrier, Sam for mast cell tumors. He has been treating him with neoplasene (blood root) for just over a year. So far Sam seems to be doing well (good looking coat, good appetite and playfulness for an 8 year old dog). We are "snow birds" living in Florida and Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Since we are nowhere close to Nashville, TN we have been corresponding by e-mail and ordering Sam's medicine from Becky (Dr. Smith's assistant.) We are so thankful for Dr. Smith and his research in holistic treatment for mast cell tumors.

Great experience, took both my dog in And they treated them like family. I have a service dog and keeping him healthy is very important. So my other dog. I have had dogs for several years and seen many different vets but by far DR. Smith is best. His staff is great

I just moved into town and was recommended Dr. Smith by a friend who had a great experience with her dog. I find his staff to always be warm and patient with my millions of questions, and Dr. Smith to be thorough and very knowledgeable. My dog is older and has been showing early signs of Degenerative Myelopathy. Dr. Smith recommended medicine that I had yet to discover in my hours of internet research. We immediately put Bella on them and I notice a slowing of progression in her disease. He is also just very patient with me even though I always ask him the same things over and over again. He seems to really take a holistic approach. I came in with a variety of meds and supplements that Bella was put on by my previous vet and asked his opinion on whether or not I should stay with them, or use things that he sells in his office. He did not try to up-charge me or get me to switch to products that he offered. He offered his honest opinion on the efficacy of each thing and helped me narrow down what I had in order to do the best for Bella without breaking the bank. It was obvious he was interested in what was best for her, not making all the money he could off of a nervous dog mamma. Thanks Dr. Smith and your amazing staff for making Bella and I feel so welcome and helping us in a very difficult time :)

2 weeks ago yesterday, I called Natchez Trace Veterinary Services and begged to see my old high school friend, Marc Smith, for an acupuncture treatment for my dog. She was in SEVERE pain and we had spent a wad of money to figure out what was wrong with her only to still have unanswered questions. It was being suggested to us by a specialist group in town that we agree to a very expensive MRI in order to diagnose our beloved 9-10 year old black lab with either a disk issue or a fatal tumor. We were of course devastated and lost about what to do. And unfortunately, the cost to go forward was quite a significant factor with an MRI and possibly surgery. It is a cost we would pay if we knew it would help her, but would it help? I hadn't seen Marc since high school when I walked my limping dog into see him 2 weeks ago today on Good Friday. I had never been in his office, but it was the first time I had ever seen my dog that relaxed in an animal clinic. Marc listened so completely as I explained where we were and while I asked all my questions. From him I got information that I could truly understand and truly use. He treated my dog with acupuncture and Vitamin B and she got up feeling better than she had felt in over a week. It was truly miraculous. We have had a total of 4 treatments so far and we are blown away by the recovery she is making. I appreciate Marc's use of both Eastern and Western medicine. I appreciate Marc's availability to answer questions. I also appreciate the office staff and their checking in via email with us to get updates on our dog's progress. My husband and I are so thankful for this incredible place and are so thankful that our dog's suffering has been so greatly reduced. I honestly cannot say enough positives about our experience. Thank you so much Marc!!!!!

I have always had an excellent experience with Dr. Mark and the whole staff at Natchez Trace Vet. I totally entrust them with the care of my horses, goat, and dogs. I love that they incorporate holistic treatments with traditional medicine to get the best results for the all over well being of my animals. And also peace of mind for me!

Dr. Marc has done wonders to help my dog! It is difficult to find a doctor who is well-trained in Prolotherapy much less a veterinarian who uses this wonderful treatment modality. I saw firsthand how much Prolotherapy was able to help my human patients with damaged joints, stubborn arthritis, and ligament tears. When my dog tore his ACL I knew I didn't want to subject him to the reconstructive surgery for a second time. He had surgery to reconstruct his other knee 2 years ago and the results were okay but he still has pain. The recovery period for reconstructive surgery is quite lengthy and there is a significant risk of injuries to both the repaired knee and the other knee during the rehab process. I felt that Prolotherapy would give him a much less invasive procedure that would support his body's healing process especially in combination with the acupuncture. We have just completed the fourth series of injections but I saw improvements from the very first round. There is now stability in his joint and he is able to walk and stand on it without significant pain. He spends much of his time in my office and even my patients remarked on how much happier he looked and how much easier he got around after that first session and he has just continued to improve each time. I am thrilled with his results. He had such good results with the newly injured knee that we also did a round of injections for his surgically-repaired knee to see if that will help reduce his pain there as well. I had already seen how acupuncture in combination with Prolotherapy worked in people and my experience with my dog has showed me that it works just as well in combination in animals as well. As a licensed acupuncturist I was impressed with Dr. Marc's knowledge of Acupuncture & Eastern Medical Theory. His staff is wonderful and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend him and his clinic for anyone seeking an alternative to traditional treatments that can be very hard on an animal's body. The Nashville Community is lucky to have him, we drive 2 hours just to come see him.

Dr Smith is amazing as well as all his staff. He has done amazing things for my old aging dogs.

Carolyn Smith

They scheduled my puppy for his neuter first thing in the morning and got to him in first thing. Called me to pick him up so quickly! Puppy is happy and cone is almost off. Thank you!

Dr. Smith is the best Vet I have ever been to! He genuinely cares about the animals that are in his care. He gives you options and alternative ways to approach your animals needs unlike any other Vet I know. He takes time with every appointment and I leave feeling confident that my animals are on the best path for their health. The technicians and staff are so helpful and always willing to go the extra mile. Seriously Dr. Smith, THANKS for everything! Ruff Ruff A Max

My experience with Dr. Smith and his staff restored my faith in taking my dog to the vet. In fact, it was the caring attitude of one of his staff over the phone that first hooked us when we called their clinic. I became increasingly less satisfied with my previous vet, a place with whom I had done service for years and spent thousands of dollars. When my miniature schnauzer went through a rough experience following an extended stay at that same vet, they did not have on hand what was needed to treat him. They basically said they could not find it, and they wouldn't administer it even if I found it with another vet. I called around until I found someone who had what my dog needed and Natchez Trace Veterinary Services had the drug at their Franklin location. Dr. Smith even brought the drug to his other location because it was closer to where I live. In addition, Dr. Smith gave my wife and I a long consultation and good suggestions about how to treat my dog the first time we visited the clinic. I had grown accustomed to being run through an array of expensive tests when I felt certain they were not necessary. With Dr. Smith I did not feel that pressure. He had commonsense suggestions based on his experience and he treated my dog from that angle. In addition, Dr. Smith treated my other schnauzer who had developed pancreatitis, and based on a very simple natural diet which he suggested, I believe that is what brought her back. Dr. Smith has also been very kind to call in prescriptions without ordering further tests when it's obvious that the dog is doing fine with the meds that he is on. In particular I appreciated his straightforward and honest approach: "If he were my dog I would do this…" I believe it when he says that and that's why I would recommend his services to anyone.

Had great service from mark and his staff, was honest with his assessment and the after appointment service was amazing. Being able to ask questions by email afterwards saved us making an unnecessary appointment. You feel everyone really cares about your dog. Worth it

WOW!!! Was a 1.5 hr drive to see this Dr....I was so impressed I would do it all over again if it was a 3 hour drive!

I absolutely love bringing my cat to Dr. Smith and his team. He really takes time to listen to all of my concerns and issues with Lady. He spends time carefully examining her (even when she doesn't quite want to be there). Betsy and the other girls there are wonderful. They are beyond professional and also take that extra time to really give Lady the best quality of care. I know my pets (now and in the future) are in safe hands.

I was very pleased how Natchez Trace Vet really cares about animals and other people. I was not able to travel to see him as I lived too far but he was wonderful to help me with the good advice. We have been staying in touch through emails. I wanted to thank Becki to take the time to help me through emails going back and forth with all the advice from the doctors. It is the BEST PLACE to meet!

Paula Felps

I feel so fortunate to have discovered Dr. Marc and his fantastic staff. Not only are they extremely knowledgeable in holistic care, but they spend time getting to know you and and your pet. I've recommended him to so many people because of his rare combination of compassion and encyclopedic knowledge. It doesn't get any better!

Brettan Hawkins

A friend recommended Dr. Smith, who helped treat her dog with cancer. She said he was the kind of vet who would really look at your pet and tell you what HE would do for his own animal if it were him, not just recommend another test and another test. That was what I needed. My dog had stopped eating and lost 20% of her bodyweight. I had tried everything, nothing was working, and she was wasting away. I had done several tests that showed nothing, and my old vet was recommending more expensive tests. I hoped that Dr. Smith would be honest in his assessment, and I was willing to follow whatever was best. He poked around, looked at her teeth, and listened closely to her history, then recommended a simple shot, a $5 OTC medication, and a few courses of action I could take at home, rather than $1100 in dental work or an expensive ultrasound. He put me at ease that I didn't have to panic, and we could always do those tests later if this didn't work. But it did. She went home and ate for the first time in months, and has eaten every day since. Once again, he didn't recommend I come back in again and again for expensive follow-ups, he just said to call if anything changed and we would keep working at it. So far so good. I can't thank Dr. Smith and his team enough for being kind, straightforward and honest,. which is what I needed! Cheers to progress and peace of mind.

My husband & I attended a Free Pet First Aid class on Apr. 16, 2014 at NTV. It was taught by Becky Dan & we both very much appreciated the way the class was taught, the location & everyone of the staff there were very friendly. Thank You so much for doing this so we can be better pet owners for Harley the Saint Bernard :) I will be referring everyone to you guys....thanks again!

3 years ago I found out about Dr. Smith through a friend. We already had a holistic vet, but the other vets in that office were conventional, so we couldn't always get what we wanted. And because that other vet had a front office person who was less than friendly, we were looking for a better place to take our senior dog at that time. The very first time I walked into NTVS, Becki greeted me with a big, welcoming smile and a warm "Hello!". The front person at any office is always the most important. When we met Dr. Smith, he did acupuncture and some other things with our senior dog and put him on some supplements and a "cooling" diet (as seniors tend to hold more heat in their bodies, Dr. Smith taught us). Our senior dog was in amazing shape and had a much higher quality of life after that. He lived to be 21! He was in great shape and very happy until a few days before he passed. It wasn't just that Dr. Smith helped our dog to live longer. Our dog had a much higher quality of life as a senior. He was happy and healthy. Now that we have a puppy, Dr. Smith is our only vet. Other vets over-vaccinate, which really messes with their immune systems. Dr. Smith knows this, and will vaccinate as necessary, but no more. They also know the importance of nutrition, and Becki has an amazing, wonderful and calming effect on animals. Dr. Smith and Becki are wonderful, and our pets are always in good hands at NTVS.

I take my 3 dogs to the clinic on Highway 100. Dr. Smith is very intelligent, professional. and charismatic. I trust him to not overmedicate my dogs or do any unnecessary procedures. Becki is very knowledgeable and always makes sure I understand why they are suggesting a particular treatment and stays in contact with me. They take such great care of my dogs. I can't speak highly enough about them!

Ramona Fox

We started seeing Dr. Smith when we couldn't get good answers or out of the box suggestions from our current vet. I wanted someone who was willing to look at alternative solutions rather than just doping my dog up. I have to say, as long as Dr. Smith is in practice, I will never go to another vet! He and his staff were a joy to work with, my girl loved going there, and he gave her some of the best overall weeks she had left in her life. He takes his practice as a true calling and I just don't know of any other vet that would go to the lengths he does to treat his patients.

Gary Earl

Great service from a staff and vet that obviously love animals. Wish all medical and veterinarians were like this.

Jen Trivett

Very friendly and informative staff and veterinarian! Highly recommend!

Samantha Swanson

Dr. Smith distinguishes himself from other veterinarians by offering treatments I can't find anywhere else. Currently, he is doing acupuncture to help make my elderly dog Ariel more comfortable. She is 15 and has arthritis. At her last session she fell asleep on the floor after the needles were put in. In her entire life, she has never been relaxed enough to fall asleep anywhere other than her bed. Acupuncture often relaxes dogs and it doesn't hurt them. He has also given additional options to help with her recurring ear, eye, and skin infections and they are clearing up already. He is also well-versed in herbs and will ALWAYS give you more options than any other vet. He is easy to reach and gives fast updates when he is caring for your pets. He will even give you his cell phone number in case you need to reach him outside of office hours.

Dr. Smith and his staff are great! Our bichons are our babies and that is how they are treated at Natchez Trace Veterinary Services. I am very comfortable with each visit we have had and appreciate the depth of care and concern we received when one of our babies had cancer.

Rapheal Vee

Dr. Smith and all the staff are exceptional, including Becki and Kristie. They genuinely care about the well being of your pet, rather than just making a profit off you. Unlike most vets, Dr. Smith treats the root cause of your pets problems and not just the symptoms. I have been visitng Dr. Smith for over a year now, after all the other vets in the area either misdiagnosed my dog's mouth cancer and/or told me to put him down. Dr. Smith stabilized my dog, Yogi, through a combination of holistic and traditional treatment and built up his immune system so he could be strong enough to survive the surgery and radiation necessary to eradicate the cancer. One year later after first visiting Dr. Smith, Yogi is alive and well.

Dr. Smith and his veterinarian crew at Natchez Trace Veterinarian Services are one of a kind. I have known Dr. Smith since I was 14 years old (I am now 30) and he has been through it all with me and my animals. He knows his job very well and loves his clients :-) If you're looking for the BEST veterinarian care in Nashville... Natchez Trace Veterinarian clinic is the place to go. SO thankful for you Dr. Smith... thank you for always going above and beyond for me and my babies!

My pet was diagnosed with Ammonium urate stones, likely liver shunt (PSS). I searched online on information about this condition. I got to Dr. Smith's webpage, contacted him about possible Eastern/Western medicine treatments using Lysimachia, Crystall stones formula etc. The next day, Dr. Smith replied, gave his advice without any reservation. It's so nice to know there are doctors out there like Dr. Smith who cares about your pet's health and well being, take time to help and share their knowledge and experience with pet owners even though that we won't be his patient, because I live in a different state. Thank you Dr. Smith. I truly appreciate your time and effort to help, I wish I lived closer to your practices for all my pets needs.

Martine Lille

I like them but they are just too expensive!!! It's at least $100 every time I go. When I brought my puppy in for the first exam I was told that I would get a puppy kit and it never happened. The first year for my puppy, it cost me $1,000 plus, which included shots and spay. I don't spend that much on doctors for myself in 5 years. I adopted a kitten from Eva's Eden and had her spayed at a vet in Columbia that they suggested and I'm now using that vet even though I live in Franklin; so much more reasonable and a great vet!!!

Bob Parkison

Took my english bulldog boozer to this vet. Found out he ha pnuemonia. They were very helpful and told me my options, and even told me that i didnt need to spend the extra money on getting xrays. With other vets its the other way around. Will be taking boozer back here from now on, im very satisfied with the service we recieved.

Here's a review Posted by Wyndi H to our news feed: Wyndi H.2:15 PM+1 I came to Dr. Marcus with one of my Boston Terriers for acupuncture treatments since my regular vet didn't offer this service. After seeing the transformation in my beloved fur kid I knew I had come to the right place. The same BT also had had a severe reaction to her Cushing's medication Vetoryl and almost died. Dr. Marcus put her on a holistic treatment plan and brought her disease under control. Dr. Marcus is also one of our vets for Southern Cross Boston Terrier Rescue. There isn't enough space for me to list every thing he has done for my fur kids. He offers multiple solutions for every issue that comes up so I know he has the knowledge along with a big heart to give the best care possible for our beloved family members.

An important criteria when we moved to Nashville was to find a vet who practiced alternative medicine, so we were happy when Dr. Marc Smith was recommended to us. He has been so helpful and supportive in the care of our dogs and he offers you other options other than the standard Western methods. When we recently had to have a serious surgical procedure on one of our dogs Dr. Smith and his staff basically held our hand the entire way. The surgery was a success btw. We love the casualness of Dr. Smith’s personality and his staff Chrissy and Becki are both so friendly and helpful too. They have always been available to answer any questions or concerns we’ve had. On occasion they have classes on education for your pets health and we attended one of them for CPR. The get-togethers they hosted with the other pets and their humans was a lot of fun too. They are a great facility and we highly recommend them.

Stephanie Gollobin

Dr. Smith really takes time with each appointment to get to know my dog and answer all of my questions. Jenae is always quick to answer my emails with helpful and friendly advice! Their approach to veterinary medicine is truly holistic.

Alyssa Davis

Our dog was attacked by an off-leash dog at the park around 4:30 pm yesterday. In total crisis mode, we found the only vet in the area that was open on a snow day - Natchez Trace. We called in a panic, and Dr. Smith and the staff at Natchez Trace told us to come on over even though they were closing for the day. They welcomed us in, listened to our story, and made sure our pup was alright. We were amazed by how kind they were and are so thankful for their advice and willingness to see us at the end of the day even though we're not current clients. Our pup was eating treats and wagging his tail again by the time we left. Would 10/10 recommend Natchez Trace Veterinary to anyone in the Nashville area! Thank you, Dr. Smith!

I will not be going to another vet as long as we’re in Nashville! Dr. Smith does what is best for each individual animal which means to me, he provides the best care possible. It’s refreshing to have a vet who provides holistic care! You won’t regret going to Dr. Smith!

Kate Hovious

Dr. Smith and his staff are awesome! So attentive and truly want to help you and your pet. Both me and my pets love going to NTVS and the fact that Dr. Smith offers all kinds of options- traditional, Chinese herbal, holistic, alternative. This is the first vet clinic that I have ever come across that can do it all!

Shelly Cieslak

We absolutely love coming here with our two little dogs. Dr. Smith takes the time to give our puppies attention and really cares about their overall health. Our Yorkie Hope was walking around poorly and very lethargic, and Dr. Smith did an x-ray on her back and found that she had swallowed the metal cover of an earbud from our headphones. Dr. Smith was able to remove the metal piece through her throat without doing invasive surgery, and she is getting better every day. Even more than that, the whole practice calls and checks on us, they are great with followup, and they text us to see how the puppies are doing. We really appreciate the service and care and will refer all of our friends!

Erin Stagg

Hands down the best Vet clinic in the world. I have experienced vet services throughout the US and never have I had more confidence in a Veterinarian than I do in Dr. Marc. You are doing you and your pet a disservice by not using Natchez Trace. I drive all the way from Clarksville, that's how much I prefer them over any other vet.

Christie Girl

I have been a customer for over 10 years and will continue to use the services of Natchez Trace Veterinary Clinics because of the excellent service I have always recieved! Dr Smith is knowledgeable in both traditional western medicine and alternative methods, and combines the diciplines with some common sense for the best outcome for each animal. His staff is also friendly and very helpful! I would highly recommend trusting the care of your furry friends to Natchez Trace Veterinary Clinics!

Marnie Reasor, CCH

Marc Smith is a fantastic holistic vet with many healthy alternatives so you can avoid medicating your pets unless absolutely necessary.

Dr. Marc Smith and his crew are absolutely incredible. They are all so knowledgeable and clearly love what they do! The office is warm and welcoming and my dogs actually look forward to visits there. I love that Dr. Smith and his staff also offer holistic options for my dogs.

Fantastic. All the way from Georgia just to get to Dr. Smith. The entire office is amazing and I've not found anyone more knowledgeable, caring and committed to helping his patients.

Beautiful office and friendly staff. I love the options of holistic care and traditional medications for my dog. Dr. Smith seems to really care about my fur baby and finding the best options for him.

I live outside the practice area, but found the website via Google Search. I was searching for holistic treatments used for Cushing’s Disease in dogs. My ten-year-old female schnauzer was put through a battery of tests last year (though asymptomatic) when pre-op blood tests indicated by one point the possibility she had the disease. Test results, however, were negative. A year later she’s exhibiting some of the symptoms of Cushing’s, and I’ve been in a quandary about how to proceed. The traditional drugs used to treat canine Cushing’s can produce severe side effects, and my poor girl has been through so much already because her immune system was compromised by a severe vaccine reaction when she was young. After reading that Dr. Smith uses lignans and melatonin to treat the disease, I used the website contact form and wrote him a very long email containing lots of background info and asked numerous questions. I feared I was imposing on him, but Dr. Smith was considerate enough to respond and answer me at length, for which I’m extremely grateful. He clarified that this treatment method is used for atypical Cushing’s, and he also wrote that the information I provided indicated my dog may be a candidate. He also mentioned some other herbal treatments that are helpful. I’ve been so worried about my dog’s condition, but very wary of exposing her to the potentially severe side effects of the traditional drugs given for canine Cushing’s. Dr. Smith’s insight and thoughtful reply to my long email gave me hope and lessened my stress. I will schedule an appointment for my dog with the only holistic veterinarian in my area. (If we lived in your area, you would have a new patient!) Thank you, thank you, Dr. Smith, and bless you! I am so glad Google found you for me. You were very kind to spend your time answering my email and sharing your expertise. Regards, Jaye Denman

Every person there cares about you and your pet. And they do so much for rescue groups around the Nashville area. And they have classes about how to care for your pets though out the year. You will love them too.

Jeannie Jones

Dr. Smith and his team at Natchez Trace Veterinary Services are wonderful. We can't say enough about the high quality personal veterinary services they provide. We would not go anywhere else for our vet needs.

Two pets have had melanoma. Dr Smith took care of both of them. Our first pet had advanced stages that had already spread to his lungs. He was almost 17 so surgery and anesthesia was not an ideal option. Richie should have only lived for weeks but instead we had 5 more months with this guy. Our other dog had one caught early enough that we should have a lot more time with him. Same thing at 14 years old we did not want to be terribly invasive and we are very happy with our decision. Dr. Smith and staff were all amazing, we knew what was going on and Dr. Smith was very honest and open about our treatment options. We are very happy with our decision taking our pets to Dr. Smith for a holistic approach to care with a better quality of life.

Brooke Schurr

I brought my German Shepherd to Dr. Smith a few months ago and was very pleased. I could tell a difference just walking into the waiting room. Everything was much more calm then our previous vet and I could see how much more calm my dog was because of it. Dr. Smith was great! He was very personable and listened when I talked. I was also pleased to find a vet that wanted to find the root of my dogs problems instead of just medicating. We were even able to clear up his problem with natural remedies. We will definitely be back!

Patty Lewis

Dr. Marc is great with my dogs, especially my nervous Smokey. Easy to get appointments and always quick to respond to my questions.
