I cannot say enough positive things about Dr. Troutman and her staff at West Winds. I have had all three of my Pugs go to her for well over a decade. Dr. Troutman ACTUALLY cares. Just look around her property and she all the rescues she has. She is not in it for the money I can tell you that. The prices compared to fellow veterinary services in this area are CRAZY AFFORDABLE at West Winds. Animals are her passion. She was blessed with a bright brain and a beautiful bright Light. Rapid City is very lucky to have West Winds. I refer EVERYONE here. Jimmy Cricket, Dewey, and Tubby could not be or have been more thankful for all the love and quality care they have received here.

We have had some animals with issues that we have unfortunately had to put down as their diseases progressed. Dr. Trautman allowed us to be in the room and comfort our animals through the process which really helped with the grieving process and it was wonderful. I took my babygirl Hazel in last week to get spayed and once I got there I felt an immediate sense of relief. It was clean, professional and the prices you cannot beat here in the city!! The Doc & 2 ladies at the front were extremely kind, genuine and helpful! Just hearing their voices made me believe that they actually CARE about animals unlike a lot of places here that rush you in and out. I was so afraid for my dog (from experiences with other vets here) but West Winds made this spay breeze by and I felt at ease knowing my girl Hazel would be okay. She’s doing great and has been healing fast! They are definitely my top Vet clinic in Rapid City. I will continue to go back to them from now on!

This woman was beyond rude! I adopted a kitten recently and was told it was a male, didn't think to look. So I made an appointment with this lady after seeing good reviews to have the kitten fixed. When I came in to drop the kitten off at 7am she was not at all friendly and told me to expect a call between 2-4. I went to do a little shopping because I was told it would be $55 for the neuter and again to expect a call between 2-4, since I had plenty of time I didn't worry about having left my phone at home. One hour after dropping my kitten off I got home and had a voicemail saying the kitten is actually a girl. I immediately called back to be told the spay was 85 and when I told her I didn't have that much money because I left under the impression it was 30 less and told her I would have to reschedule she literally yelled at me and told me she had already done the surgery. When I asked her why she continued with the surgery without my permanent said she left a voicemail and I said yes but you didn't get permission from me to do the spay. She very rudely replied I would have "been pissed anyway" if I had to pay the anesthesia fee and had nothing done. Excuse me but shouldn't a licensed veterinarian be able to tell if a kitten is a boy or girl without having to put them under anesthesia?! I asked her about a payment plan option and she very shortly and rudely replied "nope." I told her I did not have the money and would have to pick her up the next day- she yelled at me again and said she would keep my cat and find her a home and hung up on me! So I called her back immediately and told her I would return some of my groceries and come pick up my cat at 2. When I went to pick her up she looked right at me with a blank face and asked the person who came in after me if she could help her and the lady told her I was there first. I have owned animals for over a decade and have NEVER been to such an outragesly rude vet! Will NEVER return and when I see people asking around about a vet I will be sure to tell them to STAY AWAY FROM WEST WINDS. Totally disgusted with my experience. If there was an option for no stars I would have put that.

I go to West Winds for all my pets needs. I recently went last week for my poor Kitty who sprained his shoulder. The vet is so nice and attentive. She absolutely loves all the animals that come in. I would never take my pets anywhere else.
