I was referred from my Vet during off hours when my pug was having a great deal of difficulty breathing. I really thought i was losing her that night. She is 13 years old with collapsed trachea which is being treated with medication at this time. However this breathing issue she was having was nothing like her normal expected cough for her condition. As soon as I arrived they scooped her right up and began immediate treatment on her. She did end up with an overnight stay and when I picked her up the next evening she was like a new dog. The treatments received turned her right back around! The Doctors and staff were great. The continue communication and updates while I was waiting and even after I left her there for the night. Clearly the staff and Doctors are passionate about animals and their humans. :-)

I've had to bring my pup here twice in her life. Once for glue/stitches, and yesterday becauze of a fever/vomiting/just not being herself. The staff were very kind and professional, the facility is clean and welcoming with their fall decorations. We were seen to very quickly and the techs and vet were well organized and told me everything that happened to Paris as they did it. They are very good at calming your anxiety about what's happening to your pet back there. It took 2 hours total for me to get there, be seen, have all the tests necessary done and for me to say goodnight to Paris and leave. The price was amazing for the quality of care and treatments administered. I hope I can pick my girl up today!

Wonderful care, loving staff. I would highly recommend.

The following note was sent to Bay State. I have only had positive experiences there except for this one time with " Cheryl" or " SheryI" . I'm hoping she was just having a bad day and this type of behavior was an outlier. I just spoke with " S/Cheryl" tonight/this morning at 12:55 AM, 6/23/17. I asked for records of my dog Howie's ultrasound to be sent to me. I was told by the receptionist and the lady who took my dog Howie to see the doctor that i would get the e-mail by around 7PM. Cheryl said that I did not pay for a consultation and , because of that, I could not be sent the e-mails. I , in a calm yet firm tone, asked why, as the client/person who paid for the visit, I could not get the records., She told me to call Chris in the morning and explain. I then asked Cheryl to please leave message for Chris saying I would like the info to be sent to me. Cheryl once again repeated the whole consultation reason, the said she did not need to be yelled at atand then hung up on me. I called back immediately and said that I was sorry she interpreted my tone of voice as " yelling" but thay, under no circumstances should a client be hung up on. She hung up on me a second time. It's my word against hers. I hope you have the faith and knowledge in/of your staff to believe her more than me. Otherwise, I doubt you would tolerate this behavior. If you have your calls recorded, I ask you to listen to them and decide for yourself. I will be placing this letter on Yelp.

I had an emergency with one of my dogs and BSVES was literally a god send. We had been visiting from out of state in nearby Bristol, RI, and on the way home to CT we stopped for a coffee, leaving our two dogs in the backseat of the car for three minutes. In that time, one of the dogs jumped up front -- over a doggie barrier, mind you -- and chose to chow down a bag of grapes (toxic to dogs) over a bag of dog treats. It was a Saturday and late in the day, so I immediately became super stressed knowing how difficult it would be to find an animal hospital that was open. A quick Google search showed how close we were to Bay State. When I walked in, I was greeted by a triage tech. I told her what had happened and she said right away "I'm just going to take him in back to start treatment." Long story short: my darling little dog received an ER exam, a medication to induce vomiting, was given SQ fluids and baseline bloodwork was done, all for less than $200! I spent more in the following days once we were home at his usual vet, but this hospital ensured his wellbeing until normal business hours. That's less than some of his wellness visits! After assessing him, the doctor came out to discuss the plan. She was very thorough and detailed. Because we lived out of state, it was very important that all the records be sent to my normal vet, which I was worried would not happen. But the next day, everything was faxed over. The staff at this hospital exceeded my expectations. I hope to never have to use them again, but if you find yourself in the midst of a pet emergency, do not hesitate to bring your furry loved ones here.

My husband and son brought our dog in and were treated with such compassion it made our tough decision a little easier. Very informative and caring.

This place was awesome! Walked in and within two mins they had my cat in the back and were checking him and only waited maybe ten mins before the vet came out, and she was confident, kind, and informative! Best vet services I've ever had. Cat is now doing really well because of them. The only complaint is that it wasn't cheap, however, everything else was perfect!

Me and my father rushed our dog in due to having seizures on 2.12.19 although he has to cross the rainbow bridge last night after midnight on 2.13.19 I am so grateful for the staff our vet was Dr.Huelsman she was so so kind. They offered as much time as possible with our pup. Richard who answered my call and I could barely think straight was calm and so understanding. To say we are forever grateful for the staff as a whole on the night of 2.12 into 2.13 is an understatement. These guys actually care about the well being of your pet they care and understand your choices regarding your pets health. These vets are here for you and your pet. Not the money or any other reason. I now share my story with bay state with my friends and highly recommend them if they ever need a vet ER. Me and my father are forever grateful and thankful for the vets and service here and I cannot thank them enough. I want to hug everyone of them for being there during one of the most difficult choices we've ever had to make and being there through it. I wish I could hug everyone of you thank you so so so much. Forever.

My healthy 6 month puppy just died here !!! Brought in my 6 month old Shih Tzu for a ‘surgical consult’ for a common surgery and in the 15 minutes I was there they took him in back and he died !! I was told “cardiac arrest” ? He was just seen at my regular Vet 4 DAYS EARLIER and I was told by my Vet he was a “very healthy puppy” !! ... this place did something wrong, I’ll never ever know the truth nor be able to prove what really happened. I’m sick over this. Do NOT go here !!! .... he was in the “care” of one of their Vets & vet tech.

It's difficult to write a positive review of a place in which I've had to say good-bye to many of my pets over the year but here it is. I was there on Monday night to euthanize my cat, Muffin, and it was pretty grueling. Dr. LaFountain was amazing. Incredibly compassionate and kind, this woman's main goal was clearly to minimize any guilt I was feeling and give me closure. I could never adequately thank her.

Heather boyd

Not very impressed. Maybe it was just the doctor on call the night I went, because I've had friends who've had great experiences here.. My dog had been vomiting up foam and mucous, not eating/drinking for 3 days, he could barely walk or open his, super weak and his body was limp. I took him here and they cut his nails.. gave me no advice on what to do about his illness or signs to watch out for or things I could to to make him feel better or figure out why he was so sick. He's a 5 pound chihuahua so the little guy can't really afford to lose any weight. They took him in the back and told me nothing. Not sure if they weighed him, or did vitals, or anything actually pertaining to why I took him in $145 for a nail clipping? I would have taken him to the groomers if that was my concern. Doctor was not caring or compassionate. Other staff and vet techs were nice..

We had to put our Jack Russell Terrier down last night. The girls who work there were so wonderful and sympathetic to us. They took us in right away and the veterinarian explained what she was going to do and and gave us enough time to spend with our Piper. Very professional. Thank you so much for all you did for us. They also put her in a white cardboard coffin box and gave us some flowers. Very nice. Also, they gave us paw prints of our Piper with a card. They couldn't not have done more for us. Thanks again.

Horrible experience with my 14 year old dog Sandy. Vet Jenni Huelsman came into room and told me my dog needed to be spayed. I said that she was 14 and she said "oh she's 14?" She went on to say that it showed she had fluid around lungs and an infection in the uterus. There was a possibility of potential Lasix and an antibiotic but she needed surgery emergently. She stated that probably best plan was to put her down if I wasn't opting for surgery. At this point my daughter was crying and my head was spinning. Should I be putting our poor dog through a surgery at 14? With the exception of some breathing changes, she was still eating, going outside, and did not appear in any pain. The Vet brought her into the oxygen incubator. When we asked to see her, we realized she seemed much better and she was actually scratching the glass door for us to take her out. At this point, I told the Vet that I would like to take her home with the medications she originally mentioned. I stated that I would like to give her a try on that and if her condition worsened, bring her back. I could not bring myself to put her down at that time. Dr. Huelsman stated that she did not agree with this plan and I would need to sign her out against medical advice. Additionally, she said that she would give the dog only the antibiotic and not the Lasix. I asked why and she stated it could pose a problem for her kidneys. I stated, you are telling me to put her down, why wouldn't we try anything at this point? She refused again. I expressed that I found that cruel since that could alleviate some of her fluid. I asked if a dose could be give prior to leaving and told no. I signed the papers and we brought Sandy home. A few hours later, there was a knock at my door and it was the police. I was asked if I had a dog that was sick. I stated yes and was told by the officer that Bay State Vet contacted them out of concerns because I had a sick dog who was not seen and I left abruptly. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I explained what transpired to the officer as well as, showed him my $300. paid bill. I am appalled, as was the SPCA about how this Vet handled this situation. I proceeded to contact the clinic as well as, the sister facility, Ocean State in East Greenwich. I spoke with the manager who stated that she would get to the bottom of it all. She called me back shortly after and stated the Vet was actually working there at Ocean State that day. Her excuse was that they are "advocates" for pets. WHAT A JOKE!!! As the SPCA recommended, tell everyone! I will tell everyone how awful this was and how difficult it was for my teen daughter to experience this. She has been with Sandy since she was 2 years old. Over the next few days, we found a wonderful Vet, Dr. Cordy at Harbor Animal Hospital in Warren, as well as MASS RI Veterinary E.R. staff. A plan was in place and the dog did well for about a week. Unfortunately, additional testing indicated other complications and we did have to put her down in the end. There was no reason for Bay State to ever contact the police!!

Twice now this veterinarian ER has saved one of my dogs lives after local vets have misdiagnosed them. The first time my Great Dane pup was diagnosed with wobblers disease and we were recommended to put her down. We went here for a second opinion and they instantly diagnosed her with pneumonia, not wobblers, and saved her. Just yesterday, we came to this same ER after a different vet diagnosed another of our dogs with pancreatitis. Instantly they realized it was a spinal injury and sent us to a specialist just In Time before he was completely paralyzed. They did all of this and didn't even charge us. It is obvious that they are staffed with knowledgeable and caring vets that put pets first so I feel incredibly lucky to have them close by.

All of the staff are compassionate, caring and very knowledgable. I really appreciated that I was kept well informed and explained all procedures and charges. Very impressed and highly recommended. Thank you!!

My husband and I brought our 7 month old bulldog, Sammy there. He was critical but they patiently and effectively outline all the options that we had for our little Bulldog. Everyone was compassionate and understanding and helped us through the difficult process and choices that we finally had to make. Very thankful they were there when we needed them. Can't say enough good about everyone there. Thank you all.

They took care of my dog right when I got their. Not really a long wait. I was there for probably a little over an hour.

My dog had a major emergency. I'm actually still here right now. They took him right in and they are doing a fantastic job. And from what I'm hearing for an emergency veterinary hospital. Their prices are not bad at all. I highly recommend this place. The veterinarian that took care of him is doing an amazing job. She is super friendly and explained everything to me. I'm very very impressed with this emergency veterinarian hospital. I actually just left and that prices are amazing. I kind of wish they are a primary care doctor to. I would go to them. Just an amazing job!

The staff here us top notch. We recently had to put a pet down due to an illness and they were so compassionate and caring.

We recently brought our beloved Ms. Kitty into the clinic on Friday evening at 10 pm. She was in bad shape as a result of a tragic injury and we knew that based on her advanced age and condition, she was not going to make it. I cannot say enough how professional, caring and empathetic the staff at Bay State Veterinary were in treating our little girl. Dr. Lindsey Miller was wonderful in explaining the situation to us, and while it wasn't the news we had hoped to hear, her caring approach during this very difficult time for my wife and me will always be most appreciated. Additionally, the staff that evening were all exceptional people who could not have been more professional or empathetic. I recommend Bay State Veterinary without condition and I once again want to thank them for treating Ms. Kitty with dignity and compassion.

Chris Pfeffer

You guys are the best. I've had to visit Bay State many times with 2 different dogs over the past 5 years and they are very caring. Their prices are good considering they are there when you need them. Would recommend them to any pet owner.

Brought my dog to Bay State a few days ago. He was in terrible pain after injuring his back. Everyone was so kind. The doctor was awesome! I was very satisfied with the care that my dog received, and would not hesitate to return again should the need arise.

They kept on saying my dog was overdozed on grass. I haven't had anything to do with pot since I was 16 and my sig.other cant even get a contact for fear it will show on a DOT exam .By the way I'm 57 yrs old now. We told them repeatly that she had a rabies shpt that day. When I took her to her regular vet it was determined that my dog is allergic to the shot.

I brought my dog in who has kidney failure and they were able to calmly provide us with the accurate information to give us the knowledge of what we needed to do to help him. I can’t say enough about how amazing the vet was to him.

They wanted almost $1000 for a SUPPOSED treatment plan!!! Some of the treatments and tests may not be needed but they wanted me to pay anyway...Never going to any Bay State clinic again!

Last Saturday I was worried sick about my min pin/chihuahua fur baby who was having diarrhea, coughing, not eating well for 2-3 days and overall not her energetic self. I decided to take her in to get checked out but it being a Saturday almost all vets are closed. I looked into the consultation fees which are high but you pay for the convenience in my opinion. They took her vitals immediately, gave her fluids and anti nausea meds fairly quickly. The wait was approximately an hour to see the vet not too bad considering. They recommended an xray for which I couldn't afford and they were very helpful and understanding. They said that the best course of action without a xray would be the treatment of her symptoms. They supplied me with the medicine she needed with thorough instructions. Total cost of a lil overy 200 dollars. Worth every penny considering the circumstances. I've been following the medicine regime and she's slowly getting back to her old self. I just wanted to thank you very much for your care of my little jada. She means the world to me and my family.

We had an avian emergency. One of our birds was very sick and appeared to be dying. Of course, this was on a week end when no one's around. We called Bay State Veterinary and they told us to come right down. When we arrived our bird was seen immediately and we were shown into an examining room. The techs and the vet were terrific. They treated the bird and set us up with pre-filled meds. At a later date they re-filled them for us. I was (and am) very impressed with the staff and the facility. If and when we have an emergency involving any of our animals, this is the place we're heading to.

If i could give this place 0 stars i would, i brought my cat in here because he had an injured paw, they gave him a pain medication shot and now my cat wont eat, drink water and hasnt used the bathroom is 3 days! I brought him to another vet and they took proper xrays and found that he is constipated and gave him 2 enemas and he still hasnt used the bathroom, my poor little angel is in so much pain because of these people! payed bay state almost $400 and all they did was make my cat worse! Screw this place go to vitality vet services in swansea, they only charge $29 for the exam and actually care for your pet! Noone ever go here especially if you care about your animal! Also i waited more than 3 hours to meet with the doctor when i walked into vitality vet services they took me right in! All this place cares about is your money!!

Ron Medeiros

Had to wait over 2 hrs..when asked why no answer given

I insisted on paying any amount of money to run more tests to ensure my best friend was ok. The staff insisted those tests were unnecessary and that my buddy was ok. So they aren't just about money, they could've taken advantage of me financially and the didn't, unlike a high percentage of most veterinarians. I highly recommended the staff at Baystate. I've never been given that kind of 1 on 1 attention from a veterinarian or technician at any animal hospital. Impressed! Carissa was fantastic and patient with me as she could see my deep concern for my Zo and she took the time to thoroughly inform me.

I brought my dog here 6-11-18 he was 14 years old he was already sick and given a lot of meds every single day he gained more weight in months than he should have so we brought him to get him looked at they said they were busy and when they brought him out after being looked at the nurse called him a She and proceeded to say “she has nothing wrong with her just a little bit of weight” the visit was free 10 days later my dog passed away and we had to pay them 1000’s of dollars for the injection And everything else after that

I am happy to share the pleasant visit we had at Bay State Veterinary Services. The facilities were very clean. The staff was friendly, kind, and professional. My dog is very anxious at vet visits and they were excellent with him. The cost, compared to other vets, is very reasonable. I would highly recommend them for the care of your pet(s).

At 2am my dog was coughing/gagging/vomiting and I was a nervous wreck. I called bay state and they were very kind telling me it did not sound like an emergency but I could still bring him in - we did go as he didn't stop. The ladies (who I am sorry I don't have their names) and Dr. Young were amazing. They were kind and gentle with my dog, and didn't make me feel crazy for bringing him in. They diagnosed my pup and gave me thorough discharge paperwork with some medicine. I was expecting a huge bill considering it was emergency but it was completely reasonable. I highly recommend anyone go to Bay State if you're worried in the middle of the night about your fur baby!

The best service ever!

Great Veterinarys back in 2010. My family had come here from rhode Island for my brother's cat/ the family, they took great care of him.. on his last day on earth !!

When I was first referred to this vet I have to admit I was skeptical. I had a bad experience with another emergency vet service and expected the same "talk and run" service. However, When I met with the vet tech who was with my cat I could tell it would be a much better experience. She took her time and paid attention to my pet I could tell she really cared. I didn't expect the same from the vet, as like most doctors, they tend to diagnose and run. Again I was suprised. Dr Block came into the room, sat down with me, and took his time to explain all of my options for my pet's care. He was also extremely understanding of the financial burden that the treatment ( in this case fibrosarcoma) could bring and did not make me feel bad about taking finances into consideration. After deciding to go through with biopsy testing, they even understood that I was tired after work and offered to keep my pet for the night at no charge. I didn't even end up needing to have her stay because they completed the procedure so efficiently (within a few hours) and a week later the doctor called me with the results himself, again with empathy and patience. I would definitely recommend this hospital to any pet parent who is looking for treatment in their specialties.

Do not bring your animals here. I brought my kitten to have a minor surgery.. he ended up spending two nights. That last night, they wouldn’t let me bring him home and charged me for the night stay without asking. Upon discharge, the woman who discharged him (no one ever introduced themselves so I don’t know if I was talking to a vet or vet tech..) told me to give the INCORRECT amount of medication. It was supposed to be 0.4mL of Clavamox (for a 2.2lb kitten) and she gave me a syringe that looks like it should be given to a horse. She told me to give 50mLs to the kitten. I questioned her and she said “yea it seems like a lot but I’ll mark the syringe for you”. Then she gave me Dog medication instead if the cat version. I called to clarify and was told “oh yea. That won’t hurt him but defined won’t help.” She then gave me the kitten and discharge a big dog two seconds after handing me the kitten. What vet does that? You know that cats don’t like dogs and put us both in a dangerous situation. THEN to top it off, I had to ask for a E-Collar because she handed me my kitten without one. I asked how long to keep it on and the response was “umm I would keep it on until the stitches come out I guess.” I’m sorry, but I am a RN and double check EVERYTHING in my practice. I called to inform the clinic. I really hope that she isn’t treating other animals this way. Carelessness! I will NEVER bring any of my animals there again. I took the kitten to my Vet today and he said the owner will be furious to find out this information. I spent thousands of dollars for careless people to make mistakes. No one explained anything to me unless I asked. The night crew needs to be educated. I did however have a great experience with Kelsey who was very caring and helpful. Unfortunately, I would never recommend this place to anyone. And ALWAYS double check your work. My kitten now has complications from the surgery that he had. Was it even worth the time & money that I spent here?

Worst place... they are not for the animals they only care about money.. my friend went there to get her dog treated she wasnt that bad and they put her down without talking with owner first.. my cousin brought their cat there they said the cat needs to be euthanized they struggled to get the cat back ended up bringing her too taunton animal hospital turns out all she needed was medication and she is much better now. Bay state has NO CLUE what they are doing. I never recomend bay state vet......

Julie Norman

I brought my dog to bay state this afternoon after she received a serious laceration and my vet could not see her/perform a surgery for stitches. When I arrived, a vet tech immediately took my dog away from me and brought her out back, I was left to wait in the waiting room for 50 minutes before being taken into a consultation room and waited again for the attending veterinarian. After a discussion of how the laceration happened and other minor points, She recommended surgery to clean the wound and stitch it up. I paid a deposit, and left after being told that I would receive a call in an hour or so once she was out of surgery and out of anesthesia. 3 hrs. Later, no call from bay state, so I called, and got a vet tech that said, "oh, I tried to call you, but the phone was busy" (it was not on my end). Long story short, they hadn't even started the surgery when I called, something about a busy night and the previous vet being called away for a family issue. Super disappointing !! I had previously used thier sister hospital Ocean State In RI for a major surgery on another dog ( had a great experience) , and thought bay state wouId be the natural choice. Obviously not... hard to imagine they are owned by the same people.

We brought our kitten in because she was having an issue with her eye. After we had filled out the paperwork we were told that it was going to be a while because they were very busy. We were fine with that but honestly three hours and we are still waiting. They had a tech come and check the kittens vitals and that was it. I finally got up to just inquire about how much longer did they think it would be and the female receptionist looks at me and says they take care of the critical patients first. I'm fine with that but what I'm not fine with was her rude answer and her entire attitude about my question like I was bothering her. Well I will not be darkening this doorstop ever again.

Bought my shepherd on a Sunday night, she had collapsed at home .they were wonderful stayed over night iv med, exrays. Were told to pick her up next, she was back to normal. SEIZURE, heart murmur. We were terrified of bill, not having much in the bank. It was $500. It cleaned out account we had just that in bank We thanked God and the hospital. We didnt have to out her down. My little girl would have been devastated.

My poor pup Kato was diagnosed with epilepsy about five months ago, but they have been getting worse. I have visited this emergency room multiple times when he was having cluster seizures (most times in the very early morning). Our last two visits were very hard on us as we were losing hope that his medications were working. Kato has stayed the night several times. Yes, it was pretty expensive. But these doctors are very compassionate and have always taken great care of Kato. In fact, I hope to change his primary to Bay State. His other vet hasnt even called us once to check up on him. I will say this- I was on the verge of euthanizing Kato because of the circumstances. The vet told me that she would understand if I made that decision, but she was enthusiastic about trying another approach to lessen his seizures. They are ALWAYS trying to find new solutions. And have not once said that there was nothing else they could do for him. They certainly believe in giving the animal his best shot at recovery. Iv been there atleast once a month in emergency situations. And ill keep going there.

Casaundra Sheehan

Horrible!!! Brought my cat in last night because he wasn't urinating... They told me his urine had crystals and sent me home with meds... Eight hours later my cat could barely move... I called the next morning and spoke to the rudest doctor who was only concerned about getting money from me and not my animal... Absolutely no help or resources for financial assistance and not caring or compassionate at all. I will never bring any of my animals back! I brought Whiskers to a different hospital today and he was admitted and given a catheter right away no questions asked. This is a life threatening issue and Bay State could have cared less!!

Megan Viveiros

Every single employee was very respectful, soft-spoken, and well-informed, besides one. We had brought our cat in after he went through a stroke and the first nurse to come and take him suggested we go elsewhere and left to get someone else because we were insistent on getting him treated first only because he was very verbally crying in pain, and answering questions later. Another told us we were overreacting a little when we'd asked for that employees name while we were hysterical over having to put our animal down that night. I understand money matters, but even if we didn't have the money at that time, I would've gladly sold half my belongings to pay the bills if it meant easing his pain.
