It is a shame. Was once one of the best hospitals around with top doctors. Now has been bought out by a large corporations and the staff has been replaced with inexperianced young doctors. There only concern is what they can upcharge. I try to find the best doctors for my dogs and often get 2nd opinions. Nothing they reccomend has been verified by another doctor. Heres the latest example. Wanted to keep my dogs 3 days for eating chocolate. When i went to another doctor and called poison control they said give him some pepcid he would be fine, the amount of chocalate and type would cause very little symptoms that he was poisoned. According to west chester math he needed hospitilization. They are ignorant doctors again just looking for that upcharge, while they google the answers to your dogs symptoms. Ontop of all of this they forgot we were in the waiting room for 2 hrs. They are totally different company then the great care they were known for in the past. Thankfully there is much better options close by now.

My dog was taken to this vet after he got out of the house. I called on my way explaining my situation and asked what did I need to pick up my dog. The employee said I just need his chip# and a description. When I arrived, I spoke with an employee at the desk, gave her the chip info. An employee who had been working on the back came out and asked about the dog. She said I could have gotten his chip# anywhere and she didn't think it was my dog. She said I needed to bring back my identification and receipts or other people of ownership. I called home and had a pic of my ID texted to me. I took that back inside. The employee stated again that my dog would be transported to the SPCA and I should handle it there. I told her if she was not going to release my pet to me, I was calling the police. She called the police instead. I spoke with both officers and explained my situation. Officer Graham brought my dog out to me. Please remember, the front desk employees who answer your phones are acting as your agent. Please instruct them, so the next family does not go through what we did. And the employee from the back today I dealt with, she needs some training or she should stop speaking with the public. She also should address her bias against pitt bulls and their owners. She said in the waiting room, with other owners and pets sitting there, he may attack one of these other animals if I bring him out here. I'm upset and hurt by that woman's behavior. She behaved completely unprofessionally.

The first few visits were great. However, last night was absolutely horrible. My girlfriend had called earlier in the day to see if they could give us advice about our dogs ear. They told they could "fit us in" at 7:30pm. We arrived a few minutes early. Long story short, we sat there for an hour and were never seen by the vet, or anyone else. During that one hour, only once did someone speak to us. Someone came out from the back and asked a couple of questions but that's it. No one kept us up to date with timing or anything. So we left and we will be going to another vet. It's not fair to us and especially our pet to sit there for so long. Don't say you can schedule people in if you can't make it work, plain and simple. Also, if you call to talk to a vet, be prepared to wait at least 3 days before you get a response...if you're lucky.

Very personal, kind people. Took great care of my dog

1st glance, one would think it would be an expensive trip to an emergency vet @ 2AM---not true. Very reasonable fees, and awesome service. I stated before people usually treat our dogs differently because they are pit bulls, and mostly categorized under "violent, mean breeds". Therefore, most vet clinics i go to, either the drs or staff are scared of them or just treat them differently. This Dr and his assistant were better than I could ask for. Gentle and caring with our dog, and answered any and all questions I had about my dogs allergic reaction. Most of all, I was able to bring my dog in, and have the Dr. thoroughly look him over, and treat me and him with respect. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Recommended---A + !!

On a cold January morning I went to take my Labrador for her morning walk. She was laying on the floor ( not her normal excited self at 3 years old) She weighs 85 pounds (all muscle, no fat) so I called my closest friend who was over in minutes, She said we need to carry her to the car, and drive her to West Chester Emergency Animal Hospital, NOW! Great decision. Dr. Kimberly Bowers treated her within minutes of our arrival. Did all the test (Heart worm, Lyme, etc. -Chem 17 & CBC. After reviewing the results thought it may be Lyme (always in the woods). She was in discomfort & Lethargic so the first shot was Morphine 2 mg. Said she could start her on Doxycycline Tabs (4 daily for $70) or give her an IV vial for $210 (Bailey is my everything!) so she gave her the IV and said she will spend the night, and we will see if she improves in the next couple of days. I arrived about 3 PM the next day expecting a little improvement, meeting first with Scott Humphries DVM who explained everything in clear detail. I asked to see her, to my delight she came barreling in with big kisses ready to go home, so she did! The care & attention to detail from the entire staff couldn't have been better. She was there once before after a raccoon bit her tail and they patched her up, put a cool tiger stretch type 9" bandage over the wound of her constantly wagging tail which she never touched ( didn't need to wear a lamp shade) I was so impressed with the Doctors, supporting staff, and facility I called my Veterinarian of three years to tell them I appreciated all they did for my girl but it was a 24 mile round trip which is just too far. West Chester is 3 miles (round trip) and in a Emergency it matters

We took our Bernedoodle Puppy in for a first-time new patient visit at West Chester Vet Med Center with Dr. Cafaro. Our Vet for the past 12 years was located in NJ, so I was anxious about having a new doctor. After our Goldendoodle passed, we decided to look closer to home. Dr. Cafaro was extremely patient with our pup (and my mom!) and gave us a lot of feedback making all of my anxieties disappear. He’s kind and knowledgeable about all animals, but in particular dogs. He took a lot of time answering our questions and gave us wonderful advice about all of the puppy stages. All of the staff were very friendly and welcoming when we checked in for our appt. and made us feel at home. We are so happy to have found this Veterinary practice and Dr. Cafaro, our puppy couldn’t have “barked” for a better Vet.

Poor admin staff - rude and not attentive.

Took my dog there as an emergency. Staff was incredibly rude. It took hours. Too expensive. I had to get to work, I asked for my bill. They ignored me, I asked again. They told me to wait. I explained my situation and it still didn’t get resolved so I told them to send me the bill and I left. They called me Abut an hour later, I paid my bill and thought that was it. That night the police show up at my door. The staff had called police and falsely told them I was abusive to my grandmother who was with me. It was ridiculous and the cops knew. Complete and utter lie, made up as retaliation. So unprofessional. I would give them zero stars but it won’t let me. I would never recommend this place.

The entire staff including front desk, technicians and doctors are marvelous. Clean, cheery, take the time to get to know your pet(s) and you. For a great "Family Care" experience go here. Dr. Cafaro especially!

My wife and I are so thankful for how the West Chester Veterinary Medical Center took care of our little Vader. He wasn't doing well at ALL this past weekend, and they took such incredible care of him. I was impressed with every single person I met there and how kind and empathetic they were. ❤️ Thank you especially to Dr. Cafaro for your generous and loving care!

Karen Hills

The staff and doctors are friendly and really show they care about your pet. Hands down the best place to take your pet.

Had the most terrible experience when I took my dog here. She had an ear infection and a bump on her leg that I was concerned about. Dr. Paine took a sample of the bump, looked at it under a microscope and said it "may be" cancerous and that it needed to be removed ASAP. Also, took xrays making sure there wasn't other signs of tumors, plus she has a small grade heart murmur (heard from the vet I use now that this was unnecessary, and could have saved money by doing an ultra sound). Vet bill turned out to be way more than expected. Dr. Paine quickly scheduled the surgery for the removal of the bump for the next week (Wednesday). I left crying and feeling like my dog was going to die from this soon. He put my dog on strong anti-inflammatory/steroids for 3x a day until the surgery making her anxious and not herself at all. I could feel her heart rate/ blood pressure pumping through her chest (must've been okay to give to a dog with a heart murmur). When I got home and rationalized what had just happened, I called Dr. Paine to see if we could get a pathology report before putting my dog's life at risk by putting her through surgery and under anesthesia with a heart murmur. He informed me that it is most likely cancerous and that it would be a waste of money to get one (I could tell by his tone of voice that he did not like being questioned). He was very convincing. Luckily, my mother kept insisting that we get the report done. Called the next day, the staff who answered the phone was very rude because I wanted to change what was planned. It seemed that I was being an inconvenience since I wanted to make sure Dr. Paine was correct and of course, they already threw away the specimen. Dr. Paine explained that it would be hard to get another good specimen of the bump since she was on these awful pills that he gave her that prepared her for surgery. The lady on the phone rudely said that Dr. Paine was booked throughout the day and they'll have double book him. Told her she'll be happy to know that I could not make it in that day (Friday). This was a problem for them since my dogs surgery was scheduled for Wednesday and they would not have the report for 3 days, so they would have to cancel the surgery appointment. So, had to make another appointment, Dr. Paine told me a week before getting it in. Said he'd call as soon as the results came in. Of course, no word from him. I had to track down the pathology report myself. It turned out to be cancerous, but very slow growing. I called to schedule the surgery, Dr. Paine said that I have to make another appointment with the specialist because he will not do the surgery (yet he was so concerned before that it should be removed right away, he scheduled the surgery for him to perform asap. Also, seeing a specialist he referred gives him more money in his pocket and more cost to me for another appointment). Dr. Paine made me feel like I was going to loose my best friend at any given moment and the staff has terrible customer service. I had the worst veterinary experience here and do not recommend this company to anyone, unless you want to get ripped off. After all this, I scheduled an appointment with the Malvern Veterinary Hospital. They did a complete and thorough check over my dog, found more little bumps, and I have the choice of removing them or not. Her ears were still bothering her and the vet prescribed benadryl. She has allergies! The vet told me this matter is not as serious as it was made out to be by Dr. Paine. They do recommend that the skin cancer should be removed, but it is not an emergency! The estimate is almost the same amount, but with more work involved. The Malvern Vet has been in business for 90 yrs, and is a family owned business that has been passed down for generations! Needless to say, I left feeling happy, hopeful, and confident with their recommendations.

The only thing I would change about WVCMC is that I would ask the owners to give a 15% discount to senior citizens. Vet care in this area is very expensive and that keeps many seniors from adopting a pet. I would love to adopt a 2nd little dog but I cannot afford the vet care for a 2nd dog.

I have gone to this vet a couple of times now. Each time I have been able to get an appointment the same day I have called. The wait time is minimal, the staff is extremely friendly and have taken great care of my kitties. Just recently I had to arrange to have one of them put down. They got me in the same day I called and were extremely kind and efficient. They gave me all the time I needed with Mader and let me hold her as she was euthanized. I will take my cats here again.

West Chester VET. Med. Center Melissa Steadman, Manager I would like to tell anyone reading your reply to my daughter Jessica’s review of the total lack of care and incompetence resulting in the death of my beloved kitty Emmie that I never received a phone call or note of apology or sympathy from anyone of your vets... or any employee..not Dr. Parkman.. not Dr. Humphries and NOT YOU! How dare you be so dishonest to say you tried everything to please us.. and we were unpleaseable... Dr. Humphries in the past was fantastic as was Dr. Weichelt.. however they unfortunately were not involved . If either of them had been my beloved Emmie would be alive today. You not only run a terrible terrible place but you are a liar on top of all the incompetence of the people at your medical center. Shame on all of you. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!! They just want to rake in mega dollars!

Called ahead to confirm directions and they were super helpful explaining they are right by the Diner, and I was able to find them very easily - the GPS wanted to send me to another town further away, so call them if you get lost/stuck. Everyone at the desk is nice and helpful! They have a separate sitting area off to the left when you enter for Cats only, and if you have a Dog, go to the right where the main reception area is once you walk inside via the side entrance of the building. #DEWSEWFINE Custom Drapery and Slipcovers reporting here and have a great night!

They took my cat right in at 1:40 in the morning. Their assessment verified an emergency, which they immediately started treating. Two and half days later Rudy is home and back to normal. (much to his brother's dismay). They called everyday with updates and gave a thorough discharge. Wish they were closer, but definitely worth the 45 min drive.

In a nutshell: We love the vets and staff at WCVMC! The prices are a bit steep for us so I will switch to buying what I can from outside vendors, but the care and consideration my pup receives is top notch so we will gladly keep paying for the high quality of care! I have a lot of experience with vets and I *most highly recommend* taking your pet here! Details: the staff are wonderfully friendly and helpful, and this includes everyone from reception, the nurses and vet techs, as well as the vets themselves. We've worked with two vets so far (the first has since left), both absolutely fantastic with my pup. Our first visit with Dr. Cafaro last week could not have been a better experience. My dog is large and a super drama queen when it comes to being prodded or poked with needles -- I think it's a relic of her time in shelters trying to protect herself. She's all bluff and no bite, but I do completely understand she can be intimidating for folks who don't know her and are contemplating how sticking a needle in her might go for them. Previous vets and their staff at other places have felt safer muzzling or even tranquilizing her (to my great dismay), so understandably my dog tends to be very nervous at these places about what's about to happen to her. We moved to PA two years ago and since then we've been coming to WCVMC, and she was only muzzled part-way through her first visit (and that was to get a thermometer up her bum), and not ever since -- and that's because the vet and whoever has been in the room with us have figured out that if she is distracted with treats and kind voices she will let them get away with just about anything without complaint! My dog is actually *happy* in the exam rooms, doesn't notice the needles, putting on her best show for those treats, and she leaves in a great mood, probably wondering what she did to deserve so many biscuits. I cannot tell you how much of a relief it is to have found a veterinary staff who get my dog and make the experience soooo much less stressful for her (and therefore me too). I don't dread vet visits anymore. So while the care comes with a price tag, I would never choose my wallet over my pup's peace of mind. She has been through a lot in this life before I found her and she deserves to be treated well.

I have had to visit this pet hospital during some of the most difficult times of my pet, Reggie's, life. They were always able to fit us in and make sure he received the proper medical attention. When it became clear a few months shy of his 16th birthday, we knew it was time for us to say good bye. Dr Cafaro was truly an angel that guided us through a tremendously difficult experience. This happened back in December and I am only now able to bring myself to write this review. The process has been a very sad one, but Dr Cafaro reassured us that it was best for our beloved boy. If you go to this hospital, please ask for him. There is no other doctor that will make you and your pet feel completely at ease in the time of crisis. Thank you so much Dr Cafaro for your skill, thoughtfulness, kind words, gentle nature, and reassurance. It will never be forgotten <3.

I recently adopted a 5 year old cat from a mutual friend who could no longer care for her due to allergies. The vet and vet tech answered all my questions and made the check-up as stressless as possible for both me and my new cat. They answered all my questions as I am a first-time cat owner. Their rates are affordable as well!

I've had nothing but wonderful interactions with this practice. My first experience was an emergency visit shortly after having moved to the area. Dr Guay was knowledgable and informative. He immediately put me at ease regarding my dogs care. So much so, that I made this my regular veterinary practice. I have 2 cats and 3 dogs, so I had opportunity to meet several of the veterinarians, all of whom were wonderful. Eventually, I decided I preferred appointments with Dr Corey Woodcock, as his approach to veterinary care most aligned with my own. Even after moving further away from the area, I still continue using this practice. Never considered switching to someone closer. My pets care means more to me than the extra miles traveled.

Took my dog here for an ultrasound he needed as prescribed by our regular vet. We needed it as quick as possible, and this was the only place I called that we could get him seen quick. The initial visit went fine, everyone seemed nice. A little trouble getting Care Credit through, but were finally cleared. He was diagnosed with an infection and prescribed antibiotics for four weeks to clear it up, and given a bottle with a week's worth to take home. Good first impression and experience. I would have rated them higher for the initial visit, but then I had to call them later in the week to try to get his prescription not only refilled, but changed to a compounded medication to make it easier for him to take, since he was being super stubborn and difficult to pill. Trying to get them to call it into a pharmacy was like pulling teeth... they never called it in on the first day I tried, two days before his pills ran out. I know, I called the pharmacy before they closed that day to check. Called the next day, still got the runaround, and nothing done. Day of his last dose, I tried getting the pharmacy to call them to get the prescription, instead of me calling, since they seems to ignore my requests. The pharmacy tried calling them in the morning, but told me later that when they finally took the time to call the pharmacy back, it was too late to get it filled. Not only that, but the pharmacy complained they didn't seem to get that they were trying to get it changed into a compound script, because they sent the same one for pills, but they couldn't even fill that because of how late they called back. My husband and I had to make a quick emergency run on a Saturday morning to our regular vet while they were open early hours only, to try to get our dog the medicine he needed so he wouldn't miss any doses, because now no pharmacy could fill it due to being the weekend. Thankfully, our vet and her staff worked quick to fill it for us. Even though they could only get us lower dose pills, turning it from a 1 1/2 pill daily dose to 3 pills daily dose, it still helped... we would just have to deal with the struggle of pilling him over the weekend, until our regular vet called the pharmacy later to get us a compounded version, which they did as quick as they could. Now we finally have a compounded version that's much easier to administer without fuss. No thanks to West Chester though, who sat idly on their hands and did nothing, and when they did, they dragged their butts. Never had this problem anywhere else we've been to with our fur kids: Hope, Veterinary Specialist, Windcrest, or our regular vets at Wilmington Animal Hospital. Even the front desk staff at WAH complained that West Chester never sent them the paperwork they were supposed to receive after the ultrasound was done a week prior; they had to call them when we ran to them for an emergency fill of the medication the next weekend to get all that. On top of that, before all this refill runaround, when I first called about it, they claimed it was up to the regular vet to fill, but when I called the regular vet, they said West Chester would have to since they had the script, my regular vet didn't have anything yet. So I called West Chester back, telling them that, and they promised to do it, then failed and failed to deliver. Seemed like they didn't care and didn't really want to do it. I wouldn't choose to go to these people again in the future.

On Sunday afternoon I took in a very sick dog to the Medical Center. We were treated with the utmost care and treatment. Everyone was so kind and gentle. My dog was admitted to the Center and could have died after eating one of the cat's toys. He was treated so well and I was given constant feedback from the doctor so I was able to trust them to help him recover. He is on the mend now and we are all appreciative that the Center is open 24 hours a day and is so responsive to our community's pets.

I can't say enough wonderful things about this practice and it's doctors, especially Dr. Paine. On Memorial Day, my cat Roxy tore her ACL. I took her here and the staff was amazing. Dr. Paine treated her as if she was his own, and Roxy felt very comfortable with him. At our follow up, he had remembered every thing we had discussed a month prior as if Roxy were his only patient. What I truly appreciated about this experience was the financial honesty. Granted, I'd pay anything to save my animals life, but I was well informed of my options by Dr. Paine. Also, my pit bull, Hannah, was treated equally as well here. No breed discrimination, no fear from the staff. Hannah had ingested something that would have killed her had we waited 5 more minutes to arrive. The price was very reasonable for all the treatment she had and the next day when we picked her up, she was giving the staff "kisses" and wagging her tail even though she was still recovering and not feeling well. I would recommend this veterinary practice. They have taken such good care of my pets, and even in both of our emergency visits, the fees were not astronomical. Dr. Paine was a really great doctor and he's now my cats permanent vet.

We took our 3 month old puppy Gus here just this past Sunday (during emergency hours) and they were just wonderful. They were kind, patient and got us in and out very quickly! The Nurses even called to check up on our pup the past two days and the Doctor made time to call me back himself today to help with another one of my concerns. Thank-you very much for your help and phone calls with this annoying Pup Mom- who worries about everything :)

The staff and doctors are absolutely amazing here. This being my first time owning a male dog I had absolutely no idea what I was doing when I got him neutered. Two days after being neutered I notice signs of him being in pain and a possible infection. I brought him in for an emergency visit and was taken back very quickly. The vet came in shortly after and spoke to me and told me everything that was going on and exactly how to care for him. She also demonstrated how to carry him. At the end of the visit she told me if I had any questions or was concerned I could send them photos via email and a doctor would respond and let me know if it was healing properly. Two days after I called and a nice woman answered the phone and helped me send the photos. She called back and said it was difficult for the vet to determine if their was any infection from the photos and I could bring him in and she would take a quick look to see if it was still healing properly. So I drove over, the woman at the front desk brought him back and a few minutes later returned and told me he was healing very well and is doing great. She also took the time to give me some pamphlets and discuss pet insurance and one that shows all the things that could be harmful to my pet. I really appreciated the time everyone took to help me. They definitely go above and beyond and put the needs of the animals first.

My dear pup Ranger is experiencing paralysis on both hind legs. After my horrible experience at one of the “super hospitals” I paid $4,500 and left not knowing how to care for him or what happens next. For the first 2 weeks I was doing “therapy” at home, expressing his bladder and moving his bowels. Then I was introduced to Dr. Carrie Woodcock. While sitting on the floor together to provide Ranger treatment she knew I was is distress and needed answers!!! The time she took to explain Rangers journey and what she could do to HELP HIM I left after my first appointment HOPEFUL! We have had 3 sessions with Dr. Carrie and Ranger is experiencing great improvement EVERYDAY! Personally, I can’t put into words the peace of mind I left with after my first visit. The cost for her services allows ANYONE to provide care for their fur loved ones! Thank you Dr. Carrie and staff for your excellent service AND for your commitment to rehabilitate my baby!!!

In July 2017 my large goldendoodle Jake was having breathing issues and I took him to West Chester Veterinary Medical Center in the middle of the night. He was examined and diagnosed with congestive heart failure. They were able to treat him and with a medication regimen enable him to lead a fairly normal and active life. Four days ago, after a short Sunday morning walk of less than half a mile Jake collapsed and appeared to be on the brink of death. I rushed him in as an emergency case and after great effort they were able to revive him. He was experiencing a high heart rate (>300 bpm) and arrhythmias. After three days of constant care he was basically stabilized. On Wednesday he was able to go home. I cannot tell you how much my wife and I appreciate the work of all the veterinarians, nurses, and support staff involved in saving our beloved family member. Without their care I know Jake would have died. I would also like to thank Dr. Wilkerson for his efforts, his professionalism, and his obvious concern. He kept us informed all along the way. They whole team has our thanks and our respect. Thank you. Update Feb. 2019: After a bout of pneumonia in August Jake has been doing very well. Drs. Guay and Miller made adjustments to his medication and things seem to be working out. Jake leads a quiet and comfortable life with minimal physical exertion but he seems happy and he’s alive. It’s now been 19 months since his initial diagnosis; 19 months he would have never had without expert medical care. Thanks again to all the great people at WCVMC for giving our boy this extra time. We kept coming to this amazing place after just one amazing visit from them, leaving our old vet of 10 years. My old vet thought something else was wrong with my dog and didn't really give much information. I brought my dog to have an overnight evaluation and within an hr of dropping her off they called and said they are highly confident my dog had cushing's and she did. They were so detailed in their information and were amazing! When our dog sadly had to be put down I needed to wait for my mom and brother to come. They let me wait for them all which was about a 6 hr wait. Just got 2 puppies and brought them right to here! Thank u so much for all that u have done for my old dog and all that you will do for my new puppies!

My daughter shared a wonderful experience when her dog had an infection that required her to make an emergency visit during a hurricane. They were very helpful to her and and Shadow and Shadow got so much better so quickly. They also helped us and were kind and compassionate when we had to put to sleep two of our babies, Zeke and Shadow, over the last couple of years. I can't remember the first doctor's name but we found out that Zeke had been completely misdiagnosed by our former vet. He was so sick, overly sick, and we felt like horrible pet parents. The doc was so kind and helped alleviate our guilt. He gave us medicine so we could have about 3 more days with our pup before doing the hard thing. The doctor who helped us with Shadow was dr. Cafaro. Please hang on to that one as he is so soft-spoken, sweet, and kind to the animals and their humans. We recently adopted a little girl and took her in for a routine check and kennel cough. I specifically ask for Doctor Cafaro. He's the bomb!

They are an associate of my regular Vet. They were able to fit me in when my 17 yr. old cat had a health crisis. It was her last. They were kind, compassionate, and genuinely caring about her ... and me.

frank kulakowski

Our pet cut her paw and the bleeding would not stop. When we got to the medical center, they immediately took our dog back to resolve the issue. Everyone was so king and provided information on all the stages of our pets recovery. I would definitely recommend this medical center to anyone who needs treatment for their pet.

Kelley Donnell

My dog was cut on the lip during his grooming appointment. This was the only vet we were able to get him into. The staff and vet there were amazing. Definitely would go back for an emergency!!!

Holly Stefanow

Excellent practice! I would recommend definitely for any emergency issues. Had two cats in over the past six months and was very pleased with the care they received.

ronald stansbury

My dog swallowed a mechanics rubber glove. In a panic, I called West Chester Vet Hospital. They told me to bring him in immediately. When I got there they immediately took x-rays and induced vomiting. Dr. Paine came out and explained exactly what action was taken. He was very comforting, kind, and professional. The same for the staff. I will recommend them to all my family and friends. Again thanks so very much. Ron Stansbury

My cats have always received caring, compassionate, and comprehensive exams and treatments at the West Chester Veterinary Center. I highly recommend them.

My family has faithfully brought all of our animals there for many years and therefore trusted them with our loved ones. Unfortunately that hospital significantly declined in their customer service but even worse, they lost sight of caring for animals. The lack of quality care was very evident when this hospital provided less than adequate care for my parents cat who died as a result of their negligence. Our cat had a clean bill of health per WCV prior to teeth removal yet she became septic and passed away while “in their care”. I would NEVER step foot in that money grubbing, joke of an establishment EVER again!

James Lyles

WE LOVE THESE GUYS! Yes, I'm shouting. The folks at West Chester Veterinary Medical Center are amazing. My dog, Hayden, is a big fan of Dr. Daniel and Kim, and the whole staff. If you're new to the area or just have a new pet, I highly recommend West Chester Veterinary Medical Center as your next vet!

Thomas Murphy

I also would recommend this Vet Med Ctr to everybody. Dr. Corey Woodcock is wonderful and very effective. He helped my Akita with infection, losing weight, losing hair and allergies, all without running up a huge vet bill!

Randy Hepler

I've met with several of the Vets here and all were super. What I like is they work as a team and share information. When my bird dog fought infection and had to lose a toe, Dr Guay got no less than 5 different opinions from other doctors. I like that...no big egos or narrow minds work here! Dr. Evans was equally impressive for another, but different, toe emergency for our cat. I never felt rushed, even though it was late and after hours. Needless to say, I've switched from my previous Vets to come only here.

Cassie Berlin

Every visit I've made here with my cats has been a good one (on their part, anyway. some visits had sad endings by no fault of theirs.) One in particular is when I took in a cat that wandered into my yard. I named her Mocha. She was old old OLD, and had tons of medical problems. The last vet I had taken her to didn't seem to care in the least, and mis-aged her by TEN YEARS. Her health was just not right, so I went to a different vet (WCVMC) (my parents offered to help pay. I didn't have a job yet out of college.) When I took her here, I knew possibly she wasn't going to be coming back home. I cried the whole way there. I knew she was blind, deaf, had movement problems, and something wrong with her eating/drinking. I loved her like I had had her for years, even though it was only about two weeks. I was ready to help her any way I could if it meant she could live with a decent quality of life. When they came back into the room with the results that night, they told me she was deaf, blind, had ataxia, a heart murmur, and renal failure. She wasn't going to make it for more than a month at best, and it would not be a joyful one for her. I knew we had to let her go. Dr. Parkman was the vet that was on that night, and she was the kindest, most understanding person. She made the process as caring and loving as humanly possible, and I held Mocha in my arms and told her I loved her right up til the very end. We buried her in our yard, and I keep the pawprint memorial keepsake on my bureau. It was the first time I was ever there for the passing of a pet, and it was SO. HARD. But the staff here made it as caring as possible, and helped so much. They later sent a card in sympathy to my home, which I still keep to this day. I take all of my kitties here now, and I certainly recommend them. Wholeheartedly.

Samantha Lenore

I had a not so great experience the first time I went in. The doctor and nurse/ tech were great with my pup but there were issues with my bill and unexpected charges due to a miscommunication. Due to my stress from moving and sick dog, I was not happy. This was addressed quickly by Alisha and I received a refund for the unexpected charge. Later my dog was sick and I was freaking out. I came in for an emergency visit since it seemed like she was having a reaction to the vaccines. Alisha had called me while I was in the waiting room because she knew of my frustration and I told her I was currently in the waiting room. She came to the room they put me in and talked with me about my concerns from the last visit (you guys need to give this woman a promotion or something she is like a built in therapist and completely changed my mood) additionally Heather (I believe that was her name) went out of her way to come in and check on my dog before she left for the day and actually stayed later than needed to make sure she was taken care of. After seeing a tech and another doctor they gave her fluids, probiotics, anti nausea medicine and an evaluation for free due to the situation. You all did a great job at addressing every concern in a timely manner.

Always enjoyed my experience with West Chester Vet. Dr. Payne is outstanding, I would follow him to any practice. We moved from the area to another part of Chester County and thus are working with a closer Vet, but I would recommend WC Vet to anyone. The were always very attentive and responsive, during emergency and routine care. Thanks for the last 6 years of service.

The whole staff from when you walk in to when you leave very courteous polite caring especially the doctors get down on the floor playing with a furry pets it just amazes me each time I go in with my English bulldogs the doctors get down on the floor to get acquainted with them and play and give them treats that makes my pet feel comfortable and that makes me happy

Such a disheartening experience. Never saw anything that was done to my cat, was just told whatever they supposedly did in the back. $300 later and they found nothing wrong with our cat, who clearly was showing abnormal behaviors. We were told to come back for more tests ($$$). So much more occurred during this visit and we plan on escalating to management. Will not go back.

We have been using this practice since 2008 for our two beagles. It was okay in the beginning but as time went on I noticed we never got to see the same doctor. Whoever we did see didn't seem to know our dogs history. Dr. Parkman was the most consistent of all the doctors and was wonderful. We started seeing Dr. Kimberly Cian-Cienci (sp?) and then one day she was gone. Dr. Payne was great, then he was gone. So many come and go and we are never notified of their departure. My most recent experience is truly heartbreaking and I do plan on speaking with someone at the practice about it. We brought our 10 yr old beagle in on Sunday, July 1 during emergency hours. We weren't seen for almost 2 hours and were stuck in a hot room. Whoever was in charge of triaging patients put him down as possibly constipated so others were seen first. After an x-ray we were told he had an enlarged prostate with calcifications and it was most likely cancerous. I was completely shocked. The doctor gave us two options, hospitalization or euthanasia. My husband had just left to drive our one year old around so he could nap. We had been there for over 4 hours. We ended up taking him home because we needed time to process everything. I called the next day at 9:01 am to speak to a doctor about the diagnosis and prognosis and received a call back at 9:15 pm. Over 12 hours later. On July 4th I called again because his symptoms were worsening and I was confused and didn't know what to do. No one called me back. I'm actually still waiting for a call although it is too late. He passed away that day. I'm sure they were notified by Metropolitan Vet but still no call. I feel like they didn't care about him. I never felt like anyone was empathetic or sympathetic to our situation. We went in on a Sunday thinking it was a routine illness and found out he had a fatal type of cancer and in a matter of days he was gone. He was just seen in January for a CCL repair and labs and x-rays were done but this was missed. I am so heartbroken by the care we didn't receive that our other beagle will be seeing a new vet.

Marie Shuter

I love that they're always open, we've only had to call 2x after hours but its nice knowing if there's an emergency they know my dog already. We've been going for the past 5 years or so and have not had a bad experience. My dog gets regular checkups there, has had 2 surgeries and had to have a teeth cleaning all went really well. For one surgery the surgeon texted me after with pictures of him (attached) in recovery and little notes it was so nice! I think the only thing they could work on is letting me know planning in advance, I forget really easily and it'd be helpful if it was written down or if I could access it in my Petly account. Otherwise I love this vet they're amazing!

Very Very Good staff Courteous And Helpful. Helped us through a tough time and really aprreciate it. Thank you and Definately recommended for everything

Misdiagnosed my two cats and killed them via an inappropriate treatment regimen. Bacterial infection was not picked up, one cat was given steroids, accelerated the infection, spread it to my other cat, and it eventually killed them both. They also charged an insane amount of money for the care of these two cats, I believe the final tally of our bills was over $9000. They literally profited from their malpractice. They also assured us they would do full postmortems and find what happened at their own expense, but they didn't do anything. In the few years since these events, I've been to several other vets. None of them recommend these guys for emergency care. That's rather telling. Thanks for killing my two cats. Here's one of their final pictures together.

Jeanna V

I came to the vet for the first time in July because my beagle supposedly ate some cherry pits. Upon coming in they took him back pretty quickly and started assessing him. They took my info, brought me back to explain what they were doing and asked additional questions about what happened. The entire time they kept me in the loop and helped me decide the best route to take since my dog didn’t end up showing any symptoms. The vet and tech were very honest (but kept me at ease) and actually helped curb my bill by having me call poison control rather than them do it. I live in Delaware County, but would drive here anytime over any of our emergency pet facilities.

Elena Lemmon

had to take my dog of 16 years here for her last vet trip. the staff is caring and compassionate. couldnt have asked for more. thank you for making this as comfortable as you could for me and athena. and thanks to your client sevices associate faith for doing a wonderful job

Amazingly friendly staff, super helpful and very personable

Billy Mitchell

Very professional staff. Open 24 hours and each doctor (we have worked with 3 but mostly Dr. Gonzalez) is very knowledgable and excellent with our animal.

Brietta Walker

This vet is top notch. Against all odds they saved my puppy after she somehow found poison and ate it. I’ll always go back to them!

Bonnie Buchman

Luckily I have only needed to go for yearly check ups and shots. I would trust them if my dogs was injured or sick. Like the fact that they are open 24 7.

Couple of firsts - just moved to West Chester AND just adopted my first puppy! I live near WCVMC and saw some good reviews so we came in for a puppy vet visit. The staff put her name up on the "Welcome" board as a new member which was super cute. Wait wasn't long and both vet and tech treated my pup like royalty. LOVED everyone!!! Highly recommended!!!!!

James Deorio

Outstanding facility. The Doctor is great with the patient (my dog Rocky) and explains everything to me in a manner that I can easily understand. My dog loves him and it makes for a stress free environment and visit.

Kathryn

My old vet had, several years ago, been acquired by one of those large conglomerate enterprises and become very expensive. Later my dog needed to see only a mobile vet, who is wonderful but my new, younger dog is fearless. I was looking for a new vet and my son and daughter-in-law referred me to this group. They were great from the moment we walked in the door until we left. Dr. Woodcock is very charming and thorough. Every staff member we encountered was pleasant and kind. No one tried to talk me into x-rays or blood work for my dog's cough. What a pleasant change from the large corporate facility. I would most definitely recommend this practice.

George Baldt

We brought in a our sick pup at 3:30 AM Sunday morning, and they started working on him right away. After a thorough examination they gave us everything we needed to bring him back to a good healthy dog. The service and attention they gave our Foster was out standing and we thank you for setting our hearts at ease.

Melissa Sommer

Every single time I call, I am put on hold for 5-10 minutes. They never come back to the phone and I hang up. 4 for 4 so far and all's I need are 10 week puppy shots (she's 16 weeks now) b c I can't get thru. And I need to see if my puppy has an eye infection. I hope she doesn't go blind!!!! I made an appointment elsewhere

Mary Sharkey

It's been 3 weeks since we had to say goodbye to our 15 year old, beloved Marla May. We were nervous because we're not originally from the area and took a chance with WCVMC. So happy we did. From the moment Dr.Crossman and the vet tech walked through the door, My husand and I were immediately relieved. Their compassion and gently handling of our little girl meant so much to us. Very peacefully and in the most loving and compassionate way, Marla went to sleep in my arms. We will be bringing our other 2 fur babies to West Chester Veterany Medical Center soon. Definitely got a very vibe.

I would never recommend this clinic to anyone especially cats owners. My purebred cat was prescribed the wrong dose of antibiotic- 15 days instead of recommended 3-5. We actually question the dose, and were reassured that it was appropriate. By the day 9 my cat got really ill. I stopped antibiotic and took the cat back for recheck. The cat was given fluids and sent back home. Two hours later he developed bloody hourly stools. I called the clinic back, and the receptionist Nancy told me that we had to take the cat to U Penn " because they wrote the whole book on cats" ! All my requests to talk to a vet were declined. Basically we were refused care on Saturday evening. My cat spent two days in Hope hospital emergency, and required two more visits to regular vet for special diet, fluids, and vitamins. Altogether post- West Chester care cost us around $1300. We though we could loose our great friend. The West Chester practice manager called me. I asked him to return the money for our two last visits to his hospital, because of harmful care provided. He said that he will look into the case, and I have never heard back from him. Remember this people did not write and apparently read any books on cats. Don't go there!

My cat was extremely ill on Labor Day weekend. I rushed her to West Chester Veterinary Medical Center and I saw Dr. Paine. He was so nice, and when they took her back for X rays they thought they saw a string wrapped her insides. I was devastated and the bill killed me. Dr Paine was able to help me out tremendously so they could help my Gracie girl. After his amazing surgery, the staff let me visit as much as I wanted. If it weren't for Dr Paine and the staff I would have lost Gracie. I love them and would absolutely recommend them to anyone who needs a vet, or an emergency vet.

Both times I have gone here, I was very impressed. I took my 5 year old, Cattle Dog rescue, Brielle to their ER for minor issues. Brielle has many trust issues from being heavily abused prior to our adopting her. She loves me and tolerates everyone else. If she feels afraid or threatened she can be very nasty, all in her attempt to get you to leave her alone, not to actually hurt you. Both Vets that had the pleasure of treating Brielle (note the sarcasm) did an amazing job. Of course she lunged and put up a fight when they came too close for her liking. However, since I fully disclosed to the staff and the Vets her track record of terrible behavior, they knew exactly how to deal with her. She was able to receive treatment and nobody got nipped, which is all I can ask for. On top of everything, the staff and the Vets were all so kind and supportive and not once was I made to feel bad for Brielle's inability to behave. In fact, they asked she come back for follow up care and regular visits! My prayers have been answered!

Melissa Burkett

I started taking my pets (both dogs and cats) to the West Chester Veterinary Medical Center a few years ago. I felt like all of the staff-from the receptionists to the doctors were all very knowledgeable and took the time to address all of my questions and concerns. The waiting room has been recently divided into a dog area and a cat area which was great when bringing a stressed out cat in. My cat was separate from the dogs and was much more relaxed when it was time to see the doctor. I was offered a tour of the facility and couldn't have been more impressed! It's much bigger than you can tell from the outside. It's obvious that state of the art care is top priority at this hospital. The hospital is extremely clean and well organized. You could tell that the poor sick patients in the hospital were being well taken care of. Some reviewers on yelp have complained about the costs at this hospital. Honestly-you get what you pay for and I would much rather pay a slightly higher cost to make sure my babies receive the best care around by educated and well trained staff. I would never take my pets anywhere else. I'm 100% confident in the care and recommendations I receive when coming to this veterinary hospital.

New management in the last several weeks - not looking out for the customer which is our family members - we've been going for over 10 years and had to move to another vet. We recently cancelled our appointment and were told that if we cancelled in the future we would be charged - this is a first for that. Many more issues in the last week or so - too many to get into here. We've been bring our 4 family members to this center but had to move due to loss of vet doctors and not enough staff to support the customers. thank you for your response but you misread my information a) we CALLED to cancel and were told that we would have to pay a fee in the future - we did NOT just not go to the visit - that's when we CALLED to cancel - yes, we called to cancel early in the day of the appointment but we didn't just NOT show up. b) not the people working there but I believe the business is under NEW management - basically the business was sold - i'm sure that most of the people are still there but the approach has definitely changed over time based on my experience. c) I could get into more details but just to say - I brought my dog in with a broken nail - what I thought - after xrays we find that she has a broken toe - I'm told that she has to BLEED for over 10 days before I can get her to surgery - yes, we were told to take her home - no bandages, no advice of how to stop the bleeding (they said to keep her calm?? really?) - then to schedule a surgery - after I got more instant on getting an appointment I was told to find another vet. I will not go into all of the rest of the conversations here just to say that this is the 1st time I've taken the time to write a review because of how upset I was from the answers to my questions. d) when I called to get her I was told she had STOPPED bleeding - I get there and she's bleeding all over the place. e) on a call with the DR I was told that she would be bandaged - I get there - no bandages f) I was told that we could get her in for surgery and I get there and she can't be taken for surgery for over 8 days? g) again, there's more but I will not get into it. thank you for your respond,

Rachel Eisenman

Today was our first visit after a bad banfield experience (or 5). Dr Cafaro was excellent with my scared little girl & sent us home with affordable suggestions to help her upset tummy. While it's nothing miraculous, I haven't had a vet visit go that smoothly in years! Thank you

Bonnie Neubauer

Took both my senior cats for wellness check-ups today. It was this practice that saved each of them when they were in medical crisis. The vets have an amazing amount of knowledge and skill. And the icing on the cake is their kindness. Today my cats are thriving because of them.

We have used WCVM for cat emergencies & had good experiences. Recently, we took our sick bunny in for an appt. The vet, supposedly exotic experienced, looked him over quite thoroughly including his mouth & going on my opinion, agreed it was GI Stasis. This is the same doc who floated his teeth only months ago to the tune of $1000. Bunny was still not recovering 3 days later so at a friends suggestion, we took him to Radnor Vets. They are truly exotic trained vets (15% of their biz). Within 10 minutes, his problem was obvious. His teeth!! Points were so high, they created sores & ulcers in his mouth. Charge by Radnor? $300 to properly float his teeth. We are upset at being gouged by WCVM for the initial float but more upset that our bunny suffered for a week when the problem was simple.

The Barn

Our cherished pup Heidi had chronic illnesses that threatened her life for most of her 12 years. Many nights after hours she was treated by the emergency service and many, many times they saved her life! Dr. Rowe and Dr. Todd are wonderful. However, the two day time vets that held my hand, spent tireless hours diagnosing, treating, and genuinely caring for my baby girl, Dr. Marc Daniel and Dr. Scott Humphries, will forever have my gratitude. Without them, Heidi's life would have been cut short. Even though she had bad bouts, because of these two caring doctors, my baby spent most of her days playing with her ball, frisbees, and siblings up until the day we had to let her go. Again, I cannot say enough about the entire staff at this hospital... they are the sincerest, caring, professional group. From the vets and professional techs in the back and at the front desk, this is a first class operation, I would not have anyone else care for my babies.

Cheryl Sanfacon

The doctor and staff were very professional and quite personable. They spent time with us. We did not feel pushed or a number.

Sheryl Pincus

This was my first time with this veterinarian. He was wonderful: knowledgeable, competent, compassionate, and with ideas to possibly help resolve the problem.

Danielle Palaferro

I called to see if they would put my ferret down despite not having an exotic vet on duty. My ferret was dying and I wanted him immediate relief and they said to bring him in. They were very kind and offered his paw prints in clay and put his name on it. Took pictures of him before we put him down. And then put him in a box and put his name on it with a heart. They truly made this bad experience into a nice memory of his life. I wish I found them sooner with my other ferrets and animals.

Kristina Nolan

Dr Cafaro has been taking care of my cat for about/over a year now. He has found a solution to settle his allergies and make him as comfortable as possible during his senior years. Thanks!!

Dana Pinner

In a time of need for our precious Golden, West Chester Veterinary Medical Center got us into their emergency vet, treated our sweet girl quickly and at a reasonable price. Thank you for taking such good care of her, Dr. Durso.

APRIL SEIBOLD

Thank you! I brought my dog here this past fall for emergency care. They were amazing! They cared and it showed. Thank you Dr. Cafaro and team.

Kimberly Moore

I fully understand and appreciate that this is an animal hospital, with unexpected emergencies. However, when there for a routine vet appointment today we waited an hour for our appointment, while other pets with appointment times after ours got seen before us. What bothers me is the front desk never alerted us to the delay, or asked if we would be ok seeing another vet since ours apparently got tied up with an emergency. Nope, just sat there waiting while we saw families come and go. We never actually made it to our appointment because we had other plans that day and didn’t factor in 2 hrs for the vet.... 3 stars though because at previous appointment (which took 45min past appointment to see vet), doctor was very nice and knowledgeable. Vet also seemed to handle the emergencies of the day well.

Kathryn Mehrtens

All of the doctors and assistants are extremely helpful, sensitive, friendly and their expertise is top-notch!

Wonderful staff. Everyone there really does care about your pet, and you.

They helped my cat out so much!! It was quick and comforting. They didn’t charge me too bad either!! Very happy with the experience. Very clean, organized and friendly atmosphere! Thank you for helping my cat Leo feel better!!

We would like to thank Dr. Kimberly Bowers and Nancy for taking good care of our Bella Bengal on Christmas day. Although God called her back home, we appreciate their kindness and compassion that was given to our kitten, we especially appreciate the card that they sent to us expressing their condolences for the loss of our Bella. Thanks You! Sincerely, Brenda and Robert Johnson

WCVMC is a very compassionate, empathetic and professional veterinary hospital. I took my 11 year old French Bulldog in for Emergency care recently. The staff was so compassionate and treated my little guy as one of their own. He was hospitalized for 3 days. Dr. Corey Woodcock went above and beyond to get to the bottom of Baxter’s diagnosis and continued treatment. I can’t say enough great things about this hospital. Baxter is my baby and he deserves only the best. I know he’s getting that superior treatment at WCVMC.
