Greenfield Vet is a great veterinary hospital. I brought my dog for an emergency appointment and my dog was seen by Dr. Winnie and Samantha. They were competent, confident, efficient, addressed my concerns and provided very clear and easy-to-understand explanations of my pet’s condition. I had a great experience there and would highly recommend Dr. Winnie, Samantha, and all the other staff members.

UPDATE: Unfortunately I had to put one of my cat babies down (18 years old) . He had lost a lot of weight. Dr. Winnie knew something was wrong, even after x-rays and blood tests came back fine. He promised that after exploratory surgery, we would have a definitive answer. It was pancreatic cancer. Past the point of treatment. They kept my baby alive until we could get there, within an hour. I opted not to wake him up but wanted to be there. The vet techs cried with us!! One of them, between tears, said to my boyfriend: We do this job because we love animals. They were so nice to us, offered to send us a bill since we were so upset, then we received a card a few days later signed by everyone who had tried to help him. It was really really touching. Love these wonderful and caring people. Thanks Dr. Winnie and all of your staff. Took me awhile to write this but you all have a place in my heart. I've been taking my cats, my dog, and even past boyfriends' dogs here for years! Dr. Winnie is excellent! I've seen a couple reviews on here commenting on the Doc's personality, and I'll admit it, he isn't very personable. He is nice, don't get me wrong, he's just not into chit chat. But he is GREAT with pets! My favorite experience with the doc was when I brought in my cat who just had surgery for a blocked urinary tract (I would've brought him to Greenfield Vet for the surgery if it hadn't been 10pm!). My cat was still having some urinary issues, so of course I asked Dr. Winnie how long it would take for him to get better. Instead of just giving me an estimate, he pulled out a book and opened the page to the pic that showed the insides of a cat. He explained exactly what my cat was going through, where in his body it was happening, and gave me a realistic timeframe for when he would be back to normal. My questions were all answered in such a way that I did not feel rushed. He gave me straight answers, even giving me the bad (that my cat's kidneys had been damaged due to the blockage) and really took the time to sit down with me. I was so distraught when I got there (the surgery had been hard on me and my baby Kitten) but I left feeling that the worst was over and it was only uphill from there. I felt armed with knowledge and optomistic for the future. The staff are all very friendly. They make me feel welcome and important. I actually enjoy the simpleness of the decor. There is even wood panelling! Most vet offices feel like hospitals to me, which I really don't like! I know this is getting long but I have one more thing to add. Greenfield Vet really does NOT try to rope you into unnecessary charges. I've NEVER in my LIFE been able to get out of the vet office for under $100! NEVER! But it has happened to me at this vet. I'll never go anywhere else! Also, they have great hours! And even a walk-in evening! Love it!

I have taken my senior dog, Sierra, to Greenfield Vet twice this year. Both times, Dr. Handke and the rest of the staff have been extremely helpful in getting Sierra the care that she needs. When dealing with a nearly 17 year old pup, there is always a risk involved with any procedure or intervention - Dr. Handke was able to discuss all of the options with us from least invasive to most invasive and offer his expert opinion on which would have the best risk/benefit ratio for Sierra. She is still kicking and some may say she is better than ever. Simply put - this is patient-centered care that we would be thrilled to see in the human world.

The last time I was in they 'pushed' their Vaccines For Life Program, so I enrolled my pets - no where on the 'contract' did it say '... but you have to come in once a year at our exorbitant fee for the program to stay in effect. Even though the contract has the words 'vaccines for life' all over it. When I called to schedule I asked if I needed to bring in the contact I was told 'no' and was assured that it was still in effect. When the charges were put on my bill their explanation was 'well, you should have received a second piece of paper that said more stuff that supports what I'm saying to you now'?? I don't think the silly little girls that answer the phone know what a contract is or what it means. No thanks. Edit: I've read your response and it's just so weird that it's on YOUR contract, but not on mine? Hmm, how convenient!

Alexandra Kanik

Hands down the most kind, dedicated group of doctors and techs that I've ever come across in my many years as a pet owner. They show compassion and understanding not only to my animals, but to me as well. Your pet will be in good hands here.

I took my three dogs and one cat here for years and while I have since moved out of state, I have yet to find a vet as engaging, compassionate and up to date on all the latest research as Dr Winnie. He was very caring and knowledgeable handling my Northern breed mixes and I was confident in his advice. When it finally came time to put my old GSD to sleep, Dr Winnie gave us plenty of space and was non-intrusive during our final good-byes. After, they sent a card signed by everyone with individual condolences. He always went above and beyond to take time with us and I am sorely missing that trust and respect I have for him as I continue to search for the right vet in our new city. The vet techs are also wonderful! You would be lucky to have your furry family members in their care. Best regards, Jamie (Loki, Na'vi and Rogue)

I love coming here with my two kitties. The staff is friendly and courteous, they don't mind when you bombard them with questions! When my cat is sick, I definitely become anxious and they do a good job of being helpful and understanding of your concerns. When our last cat was diagnosed with cancer and we had to out him down, they sent a condolences card to our house and it was nice to see how much they care about all the animals they see.

Ruth Feathers

Friendly, caring people.

Dr. Winnie is amazing with my dog! The staff is always really friendly and accommodating and it's usually very easy to get an appointment

Truly amazing staff. Terrible doctor. Had my litter of puppys tails docked three times to get it right by this doctor. No communication and he never opted to speak with me directly. The tails were not of a uniform length as I have had with other doctors and I was given some lame excuse as to the vertebrae size. This is not me being an OCD weirdo, these dogs varied from the difference you would see from a short boxer cut to longer weimaraner cut. Prices are moderate, but no matter, we will never go back. I almost feel terrible writing this because the staff is truly an amazing group of people. But this doctor is awful, and I feel awful for going there and putting my dogs through all that.

We're relatively new to the Pittsburgh area and needed to find a vet for our dog and cat's annual exams. I called three other animal hospitals in the city before settling on this one. The receptionist at Greenfield was by far the most helpful and patient when answering my questions about costs, vaccines, and flea/tick medications. The waiting area is small, which can be challenging with a dog who dislikes other dogs, but the staff were understanding of the situation. We were taken to an examination room after a very short wait. After the appointment was completed I was permitted to leave my dog in the exam room until the dog in the waiting area was taken to another room. The tech was good with both my cat and dog. Dr. Handke was excellent. He patiently answered all of my questions, didn't rush through the visit, went above and beyond to explain everything he was doing, and didn't push any product. He gave me a calorie plan to help my fat cat. This animal hospital was the cheapest of the four that I called. I'll continue to bring my animals here. Happy with the experience.

Katelyn Bowles

Very nice courteous staff, they are busy and rushed at times but the vets will slow down and pay extra attention when they see you have questions prepared or things to address. My dog's blood work came back right away, results read within 24 hours. I recommend. Convenient location for anyone in Greenfield & Squirrel Hill.

Ryan Sutton

Greenfield Veterinary Hospital has been incredible for our rats! They are quick to schedule, and the staff are very friendly. Reasonable pricing too. I cannot recommend them enough.

Facility is a little old but the care is great. They are genuinely concerned about your pet's health and not about simply getting you to buy a bunch of pet products and medicine. They're vaccinations for life program is pretty cool and reasonably priced at $55.

We've been using Greenfield clinic for many years as it is conveniently located and we were getting adequate care. Over the past four years I noticed a mass growing on my dog's thigh. At every visit (at least twice a year) I kept asking Dr. Winnie and Dr. Handke what it is, and both were reassuring me that it was just lipoma. Finally, my dog became lethargic, refused food, and was screaming with pain when touched. Dr. Handke looked at him, pulled his leg, and announced that it was arthritis. He prescribed anti-inflammatory medication. Again, I asked about the mass and he again said it was a lipoma. Next day after we started medication, all symptoms disappeared including lethargy and lack of appetite. I called the clinic and asked if I could talk to the vet as it was surprising for me how the anti-inflammatory drug would so quickly improve appetite and wasn't there any underlying cause. The receptionist refused to let me talk to the vet and rather angrily stated that it was just arthritis. Finally, 3 weeks later, the 'lipoma' got very hard, hot, and red. We took the dog to a different vet who had performed an emergency surgery and excised a huge mast cell tumor that already progressed to grade 2. I can't express how disappointed and angry I am with Greenfield vets. Not only they did not do a simple fine needle biopsy to at least confirm that it was lipoma (the first step recommended by several Google sites as I found out later), but even later when there were obvious symptoms, Dr. Handke could not put one and one together. HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL! I don't have time or desire to sue the clinic, and no money will bring my dog's health back, but these people should not be allowed to practice.

I had a nice experience with this vet. I took my dog in because she ate a mushroom and her appetite wasn't normal. I called Saturday morning around 10am and was able to get a 1230 appointment! Dr Winnie did a great job with my dog. She felt soooo relaxed. She was actually giving the vet kisses as he was examining her. They did lab test to make sure all of her organs were normal. Everything came back ok. I'm so thankful for this vet!

Howard Duck

Overpriced for their location but they do care well for the animals.

We've been taking our dogs to this location since 1988 even though we no longer live in the area. The staff are extra friendly and our dogs have had excellent care.

Garrett Sparks

The two vets we've seen here have been some of the nicest, most reasonable, and best educators our pups could imagine. We moved out of the area but are happy to come back to see them. Great communication among staff. Never seem pushy to drive up costs. Very happy.

They remember me and my cats even when I haven’t been there in a year. They’re very helpful and take great care of my cats. I won’t take my cats anywhere else in Pittsburgh! Very reasonable pricing

I've had nothing but great experiences here since I moved to Pittsburgh. They have helped me with my puppy, two cats, and unfortunately were there for me when I had to put down my 16 year old cat. They handled the situation in the most professional way possible and took every step to ensure that we had everything we needed. They cared about him as if he was their own cat and even took the extra steps of sending a condolences card in the mail. They've taken great care of my other animals and I've never had an issue here. I absolutely recommend coming here.

I had an incident with my dog where he needed emergency treatment. I was unaware that they were closing but the veterinarian told me to bring my dog in. As soon as I got there, the veterinarian immediately assessed my dog. I was told he needed a couple of stitches and I gave consent. The team took such good care of my dog. They took there time and wanted to make sure my dog was ok. None of the team rushed and they concentrated on my dog. I kept them almost 2 hours after closing but none of them cared. Needless to say i take my dog there on a regular basis. Dr. Winnie is fantastic with animals and is very knowledgeable. The staff is wonderful and will assist you in any way. If you want your pet to have the best care, Greenfield Veterinary Hospital is highly recommended.

I brought my cat to see Dr. Winnie today during the walk-in clinic, and I was very impressed by the knowledge, empathy and time he spent looking over my cat's health - this was a wellness visit with some changes in behavior that had been concerning me. He did a great job considering everything I was telling him and I could tell he genuinely cared about what was wrong with my cat whom he was meeting for the first time. I've been to other vet practices where I felt rushed out the door after a few needles and expensive tests that were read over a voice mail - but this was nothing like that. It was obviously a very busy night at the practice, as well - and I like that they offer a walk-in option (on Monday afternoons/evenings) that let me as a new client come right in. Cost was a concern for me and Dr. Winnie was very direct and upfront with pricing as the appointment went along with different treatments and tests that would be helpful, and I feel that these options offered were realistic and relevant for the situation. At other practices the doctors haven't been able to offer prices, so you're left with a shock by the time you check out at the end of the visit when everything is tallied. The prices were also very fair/reasonable, especially when compared to other practices (a $47 exam fee vs. $60-80 other places). I will definitely be bringing my cat back for her next visits and feel confident that her health is in good hands. The techs that worked with my cat were also great with her - in each interaction I had with the staff at Greenfield Veterinary Hospital it was evident that every person genuinely enjoyed what they were doing and cared for my cat's wellness - and I very much appreciate it!

My dog has never been so at ease at the vet. The staff all sat down on the floor with me and her to make her comfortable while we looked for the bump we recently found on her belly. She even took treats, which has never happened at any other vet b/c she doesn't like to eat when stressed. I could tell they love animals, and so could my dog. Coming from a vet across town with a fancier waiting room, and difficulty scheduling, this place is a breeze. I'm thankful they're in the neighborhood.

I thought a long time about this, as I hate to write a bad review. But, my cat knocked out a screen window that I had no idea was loose and escaped. We weren't able to catch her for a week. When we finally did, she was starved skinny and we took her here to get looked at. All the vet really did was feel her stomach and tell us that he could tell she needed to poop. This cat lost 25% of her body weight. We brought her home and found a bunch of ticks on her. You wouldn't check a cat who we told you was in the wild for 7 days for fleas or ticks? I mean what did we pay you to do? The worst.

Lauren Rosso

I am impressed by their compassion. They got onto the floor with my dog (who was terrified) and tried to calm him down before going through the necessary procedures. They even gave us a follow up call a few days later to see how he was doing. Excellent service!

Heather Vallone

always accommodating, economical, no-nonsense., sensible, fair. Personal attention, they go above and beyond. Affordable, reasonable, smart. Love this vet!

Emily Welte

Dr. Winnie is the best. Super friendly and helpful. Explains everything thoroughly and really loves the animals he works with. Doesn't try to sell you on things you don't really need. They have a candle on the front desk to light so that people in the waiting room are aware when someone else is saying goodbye to a family pet and are able to be respectful of this.

We had an extremely poor experience with Greenfield Vet. We started taking our dog there as a puppy about 3 years ago and enrolled him in/paid for the Vaccines for Life program. The vet that we saw at Greenfield was extremely nervous, anxious, and unprofessional. Our dog picked up on the vet's nervousness immediately and really did not like being handled by this vet. We dreaded taking our dog back to this vet, but felt like we HAD to, because we had paid for this Vaccines for Life program. We finally decided to bite the bullet and go to a new vet that was recommended to us by our dog trainer. During our first appointment with our NEW vet, they advised us that our dog's vaccines had been boostered improperly by Greenfield Vet, and he had not been administered the vaccine to prevent Lyme Disease. After testing him for Lyme, he was diagnosed as having Lyme Disease. We now have a plethora of costs due to blood tests, antibiotics, etc. We were extremely surprised that our dog tested positive for Lyme Disease, as we had enrolled in the Vaccines for Life program and thought that the vet would be educated on what our puppy would need. I called Greenfield after receiving the diagnosis for our dog, and they had nothing to offer other than the Lyme vaccine not being included in the Vaccines for Life program because it's not a "core vaccine." We were never educated on the Lyme vaccine or even offered it by the vet. Avoid the Vaccine for Life program and Greenfield Vet altogether by taking your pet elsewhere.

I've been going to Greenfield Vet for years and I love Dr. Winnie. We keep going because Dr. Winnie is so great. I love his explanations. He gives enough information without overwhelming me and is very clear about when his recommendation is based on pure science/research and when it is is personal opinion based on his years of experience. I trust his mastery of the technical science and his opinions. He is incredibly thoughtful. He never pressures us to spend money unnecessarily. He was great when we had to put our dog to sleep. He spent time talking with us about quality of life and what was happening with her. The facility is not swanky and overall I think the clinic would benefit from a better office manager (following up when meds are ready for pickup, etc.) but the care is great and prices affordable.

Dr. Winney and the Greenfield Vet Hospital are amazing. I was taking my dog for years to another vet in the city and started to get really disappointed in their care. After a few visits with Dr. Winney I felt so much more confident in his ability to care for my dog. He is compassionate and very detailed, he's also very conscious of the cost of caring for our fluffy friends and will provide a variety of options when it comes to follow up care. I saw in other reviews they said the cost was high, I can't understand on what planet their costs are high. I love this vet and we will be patients as long as we have pets!

I have been taking my dogs and cats to Greenfield vet for several years, and recently brought my high anxiety dog in for an emergency visit when he had developed a mass. Because he required sedation for anyone there to even look at the mass, once Dr. Handke examined the mass, he was able to take my dog right then (after checking with me) to remove it and send it in for analysis rather than wait and schedule a second high stress appointment for my dog. We got the all clear results back in just a couple days, which was wonderful. I was surprised by some of the other reviews where human clients and animal patients dealing with similar situations didn't receive the same amazing care, consideration, and professionalism that I have received every time I've been there. (I'm not saying their experiences didn't happen, but rather that my own experiences there have always been extremely positive.)

John W

Have been bringing my cat and dog here for years and always have great service. Highly recommended.

We brought our new kitten to the Greentree Animal Clinic and were not only disrespected by the Staff but our animal was given poor care as well. First we waited in the waiting room while the staff stood around gossiping about other Co-workers. Then when we are called to the exam room the Veterinary Assistant acts as if our kitten is some disgusting creature that she can barely stand to touch. When the vet comes in he can not even administer a shot correctly, double piercing through my cat. Then we got the bill which was outrageous compared to any other veterinary clinic around. My advice is to look around before choosing Greentree Animal Clinic unless you want the worst treatment possible for you and your pet.

Cassandra Gable

My cat had to have dental surgery to remove some bad teeth. From the moment I found out he needed the surgery til I picked him up after the surgery the staff was so kind and informative. I was nervous but they went over every aspect of the surgery and after before we left they sat with me to go over his after care and made sure to let me know that they were just a phone call away. Also they were very clear about the payment estimate and I wasn’t hit with any surprise charges. They even called the next day to see how my cat was feeling. I went to Greenfield because they are local and I have three different friends that bring their dogs and cats there and they highly recommended them. I can see why with their caring professionalism they are a great place to take your furry friends.

This is the absolute worst vet I have ever been to - I will never again bring my cat here. After reading many positive reviews, I was hopeful that this experience would help me find a new long-term vet. I came this past Monday to the walk-in clinic, and the front desk staff were so friendly and helpful - it seemed like a good start. I arrived right at 2pm, and only had a short wait (maybe 5 minutes) to be seen back into an exam room (although the wait was much longer when I left around 3:30pm- about an hour). This is the absolute worst vet I have ever been to - I will never again bring my cat here. After reading many positive reviews, I was hopeful that this experience would help me find a new long-term vet. I arrived right at 2pm, and only had a short wait (maybe 5 minutes) to be seen back into an exam room (although the wait was much longer when I left around 3:30pm- about an hour). After a positive beginning to this experience, it all went steeply downhill as soon as Dr. Winnie came in for a consultation. I brought my cat in for her annual exam, and because I treated her for fleas the week prior and I wanted him to check on her condition. The doctor was very pushy and condescending from the start; His tone was insincere and rude, and he was very obvious about being in a rush (probably due to it being the walk-in clinic hours, but still...). My cat's records were being faxed over from previous vets, and I was waiting to hear if she needed any vaccination; As we were talking, Dr. Winnie injected my cat without confirming - or at least verbalizing - that she needed vaccinations. Then, he attempted to quickly leave the room without even talking about her state of health (the annual exam I came in for). When I asked how she looked, he simply said she was overweight and didn't offer any advice or further information without being asked. It seemed like from the start the doctor and the nurses were just trying to push products - whether it be vaccinations, flea medication, new brands of food, or flea home treatment - rather than listening to my concerns and actually checking out my cat. He seemed offended when I declined his suggestion to purchase two more flea medications to use simultaneously as well as a third flea product to treat my cat's reaction to the fleas - even though her fleas were successfully treated only a few days prior. Due to his insincerity, poor communication, and the fact that he rushed through my cat's exam, I will not be coming back.

Natalie Greene

I've been taking all my cats here since I first moved here and lived in the east end. While Dr. Whinney can seem like a bit of strange guy, he is quite nice and good with pets. I started going here because it was convenient but have continued because of the nice staff and availability of appointments on evenings and weekends. Sometimes they can be a little slow about returning calls, so I just keep calling until I get through and get my needs met.

Darcy H

I would only recommend bringing your pet here for shots and vaccines. If your animal is sick I suggest going elsewhere. My animal was recently sick. I had him at this vet twice for the same issue. A possible UTI. I saw both Dr. Winnie, who is rude, condescending and arrogant (which there is really no need for that big of an ego) and Dr. Hackey. After 2 thorough body exams, a full wellness panel, a x-ray and 800 dollars later my dog was no better. I decided to get a second opinion by a different vet. Thankfully I did. During my dogs body exam the vet found a large abscess that now needs to be surgically removed by a specialist which will cost anywhere from $2500-$3500 dollars. I don't understand how 2 vets that did the same exam a week apart missed this abscess.. Especially when Dr. Winnie shaved the area the abscess was in and cleaned it because it was bleeding. I know misdiagnosis are a possibility but TWICE!!!! Time to start revisiting your college books boys. You both need a refresher and still have A LOT to learn... And Dr. Winnie you should take a course on bed side manner. Your own colleagues make comments about your arrogance.

Jennifer C

Dr. Handke is an absolute unprofessional and unknowledgeable veterinarian. Stumbles on his words, talks incredibly too fast, always seems extremely nervous. Made us bring my dog in just to tell us he had no idea what else to do after his initial treatment didn't work. Said all we could was take him to a specialist because it was out of his practice and knowledge. Why make us make the trip to the hospital and waste our time and money when you could have just told us over the phone that we should go see a specialist. Should have told us to see a specialist to begin with on the very first visit if it was out of your practice and knowledge. Never ever taking a pet to this vet again and definitely would not recommend this vet. The only upside is the rest of the staff (vet techs, receptionists) are extremely nice. A shame they work with incompetent veterinarians.

Joined the lifetime vaccination program. Thought this place was okay. Took our dog here over Memorial Day weekend when she started peeing on herself and acting very lackadaisical. Thought there was something serious wrong with her. The yokel with the buck teeth who is always sitting behind the counter told me that he couldn't see us today and that we'd have to go elsewhere. He didn't provide a list of alternate places or offer an emergency vet location to visit. (How is that not protocol?) Poor, rude, inconsiderate treatment. This place is okay for shots and vaccinations. It's good for little else.

Chris Nealen

I came home one day and my dog had a really nasty looking spot on his tail that was bleeding. That and an ear infection made me call Greenfield Vet Hospital. The receptionist on the phone could not have been more helpful, they had an appointment open the next morning and she gave me a lot of advice on how to make him comfortable until then. My dog was a new patient so I arrived a little early in order for them to copy his records, and I was seen very close to on-time. The vet techs were all very informed and helpful, offering first hand advice. Dr Michael Handke was excellent. He was very descriptive about what was going on with my dog and the steps I was to take to help him heal. Thank you!

Ellen Stork

The vet really took the time to explain our situation and options. Every member of staff that I met was kind and compassionate. Thank you!

Dan Dellavecchio

The staff is very nice. The place is very clean. We were taken back without having to wait. The Doctor and Staff were just great.

This place is amazing! I have a extremely anxious dog, but we heard wonderful things about them last summer and decided to try them out. The team was great with her and with us too, for that matter! We definitely found ourselves a new vet! Would highly recommend them. We loved them so much we decided to try out their grooming. Again with the same results, love them too! Won't go anywhere else besides Greenfield now, even though it is a bit of a haul from our house...it's worth it!

William Tommaso

Love the staff. They really show a genuine care for animals.

Matt Zawicki

We have take our dog here for nail trimmings and check ups all the way to the end. The staff is always very kind and understanding.

Dr savko is great

I've been taking my older dog here since I adopted him 2 years ago. Dr. Handke is awesome. He takes time to thoroughly assess my dog each visit (doing a full checkup even when we're there for a specific complaint). He is competent (his treatment has always cleared up whatever issue my dog's having) and explains everything clearly. The staff is warm and friendly, they are easy to schedule with, and the prices are very fair.

Victor Loveday

Very nice, very cordial, faster than I thought. Although we made an appointment it was just a breeze, they were super gentle with our cat. I was expecting our cat to hit the ceiling when they did her shots but it appeared that she didn't even feel it. Overall very impressive with everything. Even the price!

Emily Dorsey

We would recommend this vet to anyone. They take good care of our kitties and reasonably priced. Very friendly staff.

Incredibly nice staff! Dr. Winnie spends time explaining, and examining your pet friends as if they were his own. We had the sad occasion to be forced to euthanize our dear old friend, and the whole staff was so sweet and supportive, particularly Lauren P. We will always come back for our other pets!

Alex Coyne

These guys are amazing. First visit this morning with my dog who had an infected wound. I was freaking out and they got me in as soon as they could, got my boy fixed right up and on his way with a prescription for pain meds and antibiotics. It's obvious they really care about their patients. Pricing was very very reasonable. Every staff member was awesome to deal with. Cannot reccomend them highly enough. Thank you guys for helping us this morning. So much appreciated.

Philip Curley

Both the vets and staff are great. They are always there for our cats.

Robert Matchett

The people who work here are all very nice and really care about the animals I have been a client there for a year and have been so happy with how they treated my cats.

Zack McClemens

We recently had to have our dog Max put to sleep, Dr. Winnie was so kind and so caring. Hands down one of the best Vet clinics I've ever been to!

Ernest Morris

Good place to take your pets.

AG Forrest

10 STARS! We love doctor Winnie & his staff! Thanks goes out to Amanda, Samantha, & Dr Winnie!

Tessa Watkins

I love their "vaccines for life" program. I haven't seen anything like it anywhere else and even though we've moved out of that area years ago, I'm willing to drive my cat there once a year to see the doctor and staff that she's most familiar with. She's been a patient for 6 years now, and I think our last visit has been the first one she didn't hiss at Dr. Handke! Thank you for your love and patience. Topaz is a great cat, but hates leaving her comfort zone.

Norman Cochran

I have taken my dog here multiple times and never had an issue. They lay out the treatment options and plan and are wonderful. Just left there today with tickles who was severely itchy due to a reaction from insect bites and he is snoring finally for the first time in days with itch relief. 10/10 would recommend

Mara Ramsden

We take our cats here for checkups and any other concerns. They're super gentle with our kitties. Dr Handke is really friendly and will run any sort of testing we ask and will address our concerns thoroughly.

Jealous Gypsy Homestead & Forge

This place misdiagnosed my dog. They said was a uti and it was bladder cancer. They mistreated him for years. on top of it, read reviews they look up your name in the "database" if your not in there they basically call you a liar. My dog was a patient here and received HORRIBLE treatment from them. I will remain anonymous as I feel I have a right to. Go to grey fox animal hospital or anywhere besides this place. They are over priced and under staffed. You will be paying hundreds just to go into their pockets when you have more experienced and educated staff around the corner.

Alexa Tignall

I thought they were very nice at this Vet.They definitely had better manners than the receptionists at Point Breeze Clinic. I brought my beagle, Duke in about a month ago because he had been coughing and had a seizure. My fiance and I spoke with Dr. Handke, he was very nice and informative, however he couldn't give us a clear diagnoses, so I will have to bring my dog back because the coughing is getting worse unfortunately. Overall I really like this vet.

Victoria Treaudo

Added extra charges without letting me know. Overpriced.

Damian Fowler

Hannah Mellor

Both doctors are great but Dr. Winnie is hilarious. They are always helpful and have a great vaccines for life program.

So kind and thorough. Could not ask for more.

I have never liked a vet so much. They were great with my cat.

I do not recommend anyone taking there pet here. The tech was very nice but the doctor was very rude and did not give me any information except to give my dog trazodone before I bring him back. And my dog was also misdiagnosed. I spent money on meds that I didn't need.

Mary Koes

Affordable and caring veterinary service - we've been going here for 16 years including for a serious illness for one of my dogs. They've been affordable and kind. They also have Saturday hours, which helps our schedule. Highly recommend.

Conny Altdorfer

John Morgenstern

They were extremely compassionate when it was time for my Lilly to cross over the bridge.

Cherie Cornmesser

The vets and vet techs here are really great. I recently had to have my 15 year old dog put to sleep and was refered to them by a local friend. Even thoguh I am not a regular client with them they treated my dog and I with great compassion and care.

Michael Melville

I arranged to bring my two dogs in for Bordatella vaccinations, and I called a week in advance to let them know that I thought my dog had an eye infection. I wanted to know if he could have his eyes examined during the Bordatella appointment, or if I should schedule a separate new appointment. I was told explicitly that it would be no problem to examine his eyes while he was there for the Bordatella appointment. So I show up for that appointment, and I am then told that there is no doctor there, and nobody can examine my dog's eyes (incidentally, they charged me $40 to manhandle both of my dogs and squirt a syringe in their mouths; I could have done this more effectively than the tech on duty. I get that this happens, just a side irritation from the visit). Anyway, I would have expected a compassionate apology, and perhaps some accountability for the mistake, but did not receive either (just a 'sorry about that' as I paid my bill). Instead, they told me I had to make a new appointment, which wouldn't be until two weeks later. Meanwhile my dog was suffering and needed a doctor because both of his eyes were infected. I took him to a walk-in clinic the next day (Big Easy in Lawrenceville), and received excellent service, compassionate care, and the medicine my dog needed.

Debated on writing a review for a while, as I hate to write bad reviews. I would not recommend Greenfield Vet to any pet owner. Quite mediocre experience taking my dog here, which was further influenced when I had to put her down. The final moments were not handled well as the technician was subpar, followed by Dr. Winnie saying he was nervous while injecting my dog. Not at all professional and wouldn't recommend going here.

Alex S

Seriously the best vet I've ever been to. They have reasonable prices and the staff are great. I had a cat that had been shot and needed an amputation. Everyone else was quoting over a thousand dollars. They did it for 600 and spayed her for free! I will never go anywhere else.

Michael Ford

Staff was really friendly and welcoming. It's nice that they have later hours on some days of the week for those who can't accommodate normal working hours visits as easily.

Marcia Mendel

G.V.H. rocks! Everyone was so nice and caring and friendly. They took care of my MollieAnn as if she was one of their own. Thank you all for your care and service. We'll be back in Pittsburgh next fall and we will stop by, just to say hi. I wish my,vet in Los Angeles was more like G.V.H. Thank you again.

Katelyn Gould

This vet hospital took great care of my 23 year old sweetheart.

Steven Fielding

They are amazing! They always know how to handle our dog and are very knowledgeable. The prices are good, and they’re quick and efficient. I’m very happy to have found them, and if you live in Pittsburgh (especially the Greenfield or Squirrel Hill area), I would definitely recommend you check them out.

Matthew McKelvey

This clinic has a moderate 4 star rating with multiple 1 star reviews, but we gave them the benefit of the doubt. Let me just preface this by saying that neither I nor my girlfriend have ever been treated so contemptuously and inconsiderately. We both work full-time and my girlfriend scheduled (what would have been) our first vet visit with our new puppy on Christmas Eve, since that is the only time we had available. Due to Holiday traffic we were running late, and we called to inform them of this 20-25 minutes prior to our appointment time. The receptionist assured as that it was fine. Again, while in traffic we had a communication that we were delayed and they reassured us once more that we could still be seen. Upon arrival we were shocked to find the doors locked and a sign posted saying they were closed. When the receptionist came to the door her attitude was extremely rude and contemptuous. She informed us that the vet had already left and that we wouldn't be seen. She didn't apologize and didn't care in the slightest that we drove over an hour for our young puppy to have her first vet visit! If she had informed us that we couldn't be seen past a certain time we wouldn't have bothered continuing the drive out there, and would have rescheduled. This business obviously doesn't know how to treat customers. My girlfriend and I run a business and could never imagine treating our customers as rudely as we were treated. There have been several times where our customers have arrived late to appointments due to uncontrollable things, such as traffic, family emergencies, etc. We expected this vet to hold the same standard of customer service that we practice at our business, but sadly they don't know the first thing about it. Obviously this vet and the employees at Greenfield Veterinary Hospital care more about themselves than their customers or their patients.

Dr. Winnie and his staff have been our vet of choice for close to 20 years for. Our cats and dogs. We trust them and they care very deeply for all animals. I Recommend them to anyone looking for vet care in the area.

I wouldn't recommend.

Dr. Winnie is a Pro

Matthew P

Very friendly staff. I take both of my dogs here for shots and checkups. My one dog came here for surgery and I was very happy with the price and service. You can tell that everyone here really cares about your pets.

Don Fouts

Very friendly and they explained everything to us before they did it. I definitely recommend them!

Elly Steel

There is not enough to say about how wonderful the staff is at Greenfield Vet. We had taken our cats there for a few check-ups and shots when one of our cats got very sick. We dropped him off right at 8 am when they opened - the vet wasn't there yet but the techs were incredibly helpful and made sure to put us at ease. The vets were able to fit him in for an emergency surgery that day and kept him happy and calm. They were in constant communication with us throughout the day since we had to be at work. Even after we took him home, they called multiple times to check on him and answered all of our questions .Their hours are very convenient and we couldn't be happier. Thanks Greenfield Vet!

Sean Farren

They were graciously able to fit us in for a last minute appointment and were able to determine the problem immediately. We are now switching over and taking all of our pets there instead of our previous vet. Highly recommended!

Gave me a hard time to get a copy of my dogs X-ray. Seem over priced also

Dr. Handke is very thorough and explains things. He spends a lot of time with you. We found this place after moving to Pittsburgh and will continue to go there.

I was seen on short notice, and was impressed with the staff. I highly recommend

I love the staff and Dr. Winnie is awesome and the girls are just amazing

I had to bring my cat in for a routine exam. He's a little overweight, so I wanted to know what to do to get his weight down. I'd seen Dr. Handke and he sort of joked that one of his cats is a little overweight as well, which was nice since I was expecting to be chewed out!, but I didn't really get a plan on what to do to help out my cat. Obviously I should play with him more, but what about feeding him? Prices seem to be okay compared to others, though it stinks to be paying almost $50 to walk in the door and feel like you're a bit rushed through the appointment. They do push the prescription diets a bit more than I was comfortable with. I've heard stories about how Science Diet prescription dry foods are filled with fillers and things that cats don't need to eat. I'd enjoy seeing some grain-free/byproduct free options as well. There were a few cases of natural cat foods on a bottom rack in the waiting room, where they have a lot of their cat (and dog) foods. When I inquired, I was told the foods on the bottom rack were for the office manager. Maybe try selling some natural cat foods alongside the prescription ones. All in all, I've been going here for a long time, when Dr. Babick was the owner. The décor hasn't changed at all, save for the front reception desk. It's nice, to me, because I like the old-time feel. I'm a sucker for nostalgia! However, they don't have all of the top notch equipment and you might be referred elsewhere for more high-end tests and /or treatments. My biggest gripe is that they will push AVETS and PVSEC as THE number one ER vets to go to. However, PLEASE shop around! I found that there were a high number of complaints and gripes with those two; mainly unnecessary treatments, extremely high bills that surpassed estimates, and lack of sympathy if a pet were to die from treatments/whatever the emergency was. I went to the VCA Northview ER on Siebert road in Ross township when I had a cat emergency. It's right off of McKnight road where Ross Park Mall is at, but before it if you're coming from downtown. It's a really great ER vet service with friendly staff and the lowest ER walk-in fee in Pittsburgh. I very highly recommend them! But DO look at their location on Google maps before going. It can be a little awkward to find them in the dark, especially if you're already distraught over your pet. Give this place a go if you're in Greenfield/Squirrel Hill. The staff is super friendly, and that includes the vets. However keep a few things in mind: -Not to sound rude, but know the hours and don't think that they'll keep the door open for you. I saw a review about a couple that drove an hour to visit and Greenfield vet was closed. Sorry, but if you're driving from an hour away, maybe try a vet closer to you. -It's a small, outdated (to most people) in their décor clinic. -You might get there on time, but you might wait a while in the reception area, and then you might wait a while in the exam room after you get in there. You might be seen by a vet tech right away, but you might wait a while after the vet tech leaves and says "Dr. _____ will be right in." Trust me, that vet will more than likely NOT be right in! I've waited as long as nearly a half an hour before being seen. Being that I've experienced that with my own doctor, I wasn't too mad, but I was getting a bit ticked. -They don't do time payments. It'd be nice, but I've never found a vet who does that. -You can say no to vaccines. I did this for one of my pets who I knew was under the weather. The vet didn't have a problem with that. -Don't let them get pushy. They may try to push a flea spray or collar your way if you say you have a flea problem. Don't be afraid to say no thanks. They won't bite your head off! I've been going there for a while and I haven't had any huge problems, thank God and knock on wood. If I ever did, I'd try the VCA Northview, which is a normal vet in addition to being an ER vet. There's also a cat's only vet in Shadyside, though the parking situation looks a bit iffy. Hope this helps!

Staff clearly got in the business to play with the animals, not treat them. So unbelievably disappointed with this dishonest staff.

Lynn McAlister

Compassionate and realistic. Took the time.

Allie M.

My family has taken our pets to Dr. Winnie for over 15 years. He is intelligent, passionate, and tactfully realistic. He and his friendly staff really have the best for your pet at heart. I feel the price is worth it for the service, and they do accept Care Credit; office visits over $200 have 0% interest.
