My cat Leo died 3 days ago from heart failure. I first noticed that Leo wasn't breathing properly around Oct.24. 2016. I took him to rose city veterinary hospital. The doctor had to withdraw fluids from his lung and gave him the prescription medicine for his heart. Also I had go back the next day to picked up his hyperthyroid medicine . It cost to me $682 total. On Nov. 20 2016 Leo stopped eating and drinking, I called rose city veterinary hospital and reported his condition to a doctor. He said, if his condition didn't improve within a couple of days, he needed to see him again. On Nov.22 Leo was still not eating and drinking. I took him back to the rose city veterinary and a vet examined Leo by checking his temperature and listening to his heart. The vet said Leo had a fever but his heart sounded good. And also the vet said that he looked like he wasn't in any pain and we should not euthanize him unless I wanted to. The vet prescribed an antibiotic for his fever and refilled his heart medicine and 4 cans of prescribed food. It costed me $145. The next day Leo didn't get better. in fact, he looked worse then the day before. So I called the rose city veterinary and the receptionist took note and said the vet will give me a call. Around 2 hours after I made a called the vet, Leo was doing weird things like making weird sounds, moving paws around and having a hard time to breathing. I called rose city again and Sarah , who I think is the technician assistant , answered the phone and I explained the situation. She said the doctor is at lunch until 1;20pm, rudely. I said I think my cat is dying and she said, bring him in. I hurried Leo to Rose City and Sarah was at the front desk but she didn't even look at me. Another girl at the front took Leo inside and soon I met with the doctor and she told me that Leo passed away. I'm confused about Leo's sudden death. I took him to the vet just the day before and I only gave him the 1 ml of antibiotics and didn't touch the heart medicine. If I had taken Leo to a different vet, perhaps he would still be alive. It keeps haunting me.

It was our first time into the office and we had an amazing experience! All the staff from the front desk, the vet tech, and our vet were knowledgeable and extremely kind. The staff from the front desk to technicians to the vets themselves are all incredibly kind and caring. it’s apparent from entering the office that everyone there loves their jobs and just want to take care of animals in the best way possible. My pooch and I saw Dr. Martin for our appointment and he was absolutely wonderful. He took the time to listen to everything I was concerned about and helped form the best plan for me. He didn’t just hand me a list with medicine but rather broke down how the plan worked and what each medicine was used for. If you want to take your pet somewhere where both you and your pal will be respected, then look no further than Rose City! They are a top of the line class in the business and will do everything they can to make sure you and your pet have a wonderful experience.

Canine boarding only for the fat and small. Their facilities could not handle a 50lb dog that can jump. Seriously. They refused to allow my dog back because she could escape their kennel. Seems like they should be able to handle an athletic mid size dog, but they can't. Don't ever go to this place for boarding.

I've been seeing Rose City Vet for about two years now for two cats and always have a good experience. It's pretty easy to schedule urgent appointments, and I've seen multiple vets and they've all been kind, knowledgeable and good communicators. They've done major work and minor work, and were good about keeping in touch during difficult and ongoing health issues. They've just begun handing out relaxation pheromone bandannas and blankets for dogs and cats to reduce pet stress at the clinic, which is pretty cool. Plus, owners can gorge on free, fresh chocolate chip cookies during stressful moments.

Stay away! Be warned, this clinic's priority is to profit from medicines, food, and supplies. They will require you to spend $500 for 100 tablets of medicine for a 16 year old pet who only takes 1/4 tablet per day. The same medicine is half the price at other vets and they will give it to you in smaller quantities. In addition, it turns out my previous vet was giving me a human version of the medicine, not approved for cats, which this clinic knew but didn't tell me until the third conversation I had with them about the medicine. Trying to figure out what was heads or tails about the medicine seemed impossible and when I told them that, they mailed me my pets' medical records and told me not to come back. So much for caring about the well being of the animals, or people, for that matter.

Highly recommended. I've been coming with my two cats for about a decade. They saved my cat's life after a bad reaction to a medication that another vet had given him that he didn't need. These guys have great hours and I always felt like they've taken the best courses of action every time one of my animals had a problem. Update: ten years after my initial review they saved my dog too. They’ve now saved both my cat and my dog in terrifying emergencies. I showed up in tears unannounced with my dog when they clearly had a full schedule. They rushed her to the back, pumped her full of fluids, made her better, and followed up the next day. I really can’t say enough good things about this place.

I got my first dog in March and have taken her in 4 times - two Leptospirosis vaccines, once for a urine sample/bladder infection concern and initially to see Dr. Joe Beswick. Dr. Beswick was GREAT with Cheddar - all the vet techs have been so giving and understanding to my dog's needs - i.e. if she doesn't take a certain treat, they find what she is motivated by to make her comfortable. Dr. Beswick helped me understand more about my dog when I was concerned she had a UTI/bladder infection. That full informational approach was what I needed as a first-time dog owner. Plus, it was great to hear Dr. B supported local neighborhood businesses - from shopping to eating! Fantastic staff!!

When I first moved to Portland I used this vet in an emergency situation. They got me in quickly and I was grateful. When I got there I was pressured non stop by the tech to purchase dog health insurance, shots that I didn’t want, and flea medication (my dog has never had fleas and is white so you can see if they were there). Then the vet was extremely rude and when I asked why my dog was getting a shot and medication she responded “I don’t understand your question” while looking at me like I was an idiot. For the last year I’ve used Hillsdale vet and they are rockstars.

I love your vet clinic. Dr. Berger is fantastic and caring. The techs and staff are always super nice. I LOVE that I receive follow-up emails after appointments to see how my cat is doing. I couldn’t ask for a better vet. I just wish I didn’t have to bring my cat in so often

I came in with my dog and had an amazing experience. They diagnosed my pup with thermal burns caused by another vet clinic. Knowing I wasn’t going to be getting the burns treated there, the team still spent time helping me understand and brainstorm causes. When the other clinic denied causing the burns, The team here helped me build a case to present to the clinic along with calling multiple dermatologists in the area for me. They helped me save 2000$ and they will now be my dogs veterinarians. 10/10 wound recommend

The staff are efficient and professional. We put our dog (Mandy) down on Friday and they reviewed our options sensitively. The process was respectful and compassionate. A few years ago they did an operation on Mandy and did a wonderful job, she was good after only s few days of rest. Dr. Martine (I may have misspelled) is a caring compassionate veterinarian who's main concern is quality life and health of the animals.
