We used to have our 2 cats and 1 dog going to 3 different vets, because we couldn't find a vet that was right for all three animals. But then I decided to check out City Pet Vets, and we started to make a slow transition. First we brought our little lhasa apso dog to them, who needed some dental work, and we had a great experience. Then we brought our old lady cat, who has IBS, and they helped her. And then we brought our old fat boy cat, who needed some tumors removed, and they were fantastic. The vet did a beautiful job with the surgery, and our boy cat has had an easy recovery. The prices are reasonable, the techs are super friendly, outgoing and knowledgeable, and I love the space. This place is the best!

In the past two months, City Pets Vet has: failed to actually schedule appointments when I call; failed to call me with test results before they called me to tell me the prescriptions (what prescriptions?) were ready to be picked up; failed to tell me how to administer the medication; and failed to respond to numerous phone calls and an email requesting further help. I'm sure that a lot of this can be chalked up to their being very busy, but I've been really patient and it's becoming clear that these aren't individual mistakes, this is just somehow the way they manage their business. I think this place is probably fine if you're getting routine vaccinations or something - the techs are all very kind & friendly - but if it looks like you're dealing with anything more serious you might want to find a more responsive vet.

City Pets is hands down my favorite vet I've been to. My kitty has had multiple health emergencies recently, and City Pets has always gotten him in immediately and done a fantastic job with his care. Staff is friendly and knowledgable, and I never feel talked down to or pressured to buy extra products. City Pets Vet will definitely be my vet for as long as I have animals in my life!

City Pets Vet is really accommodating and kind. Our dog is reactive towards other dogs and they always make sure that we get a room that exits onto the street to avoid any waiting room confrontations. They are calm and make our anxious dog feel relaxed. They take their time and create a positive experience for us and our dog.

We take our puppy Laslo there and get great service. I feel very well taken care of as the dog mom, because they take care of the dog and also make sure to keep me as informed as I want, and spend as much time as it takes to explain everything to my satisfaction. They also helped me get set up on pet insurance (OMG such a great idea! Has already saved us $1500 o an emergency Dove Lewis trip) Can't recommend these guys enough. When we get close to the clinic the pup wiggles and wags so much, he loves going and loves everyone who works there. What more can you ask for from a vet?

I just got back from my appointment today at City Pets Vet and they were so great! My had an emergency and called first thing when they opened. I was able to come in only 30 minutes later. All the techs I worked with were so kind and knowledgable and Dr. Greene was as well. (My first interaction with the clinic was actually a week ago when I met Amy, one of the techs, in the neighborhood and she held my little scardy-dog because she didn't want to be left outside while I got ice-cream!) Dr. Greene went over everything and made sure I understood the medications to give my little pup. My dog is small and very shy and they were so sweet with her! This was my first vet appointment so I can't comment on pricing. It was less than $200 for an exam, several blood tests and shots and 2 different medications. I obviously don't love spending hundreds out of the blue but I was worried it would be much higher.

Very professional and friendly staff. We used to go to a vet considerably farther away. We had a changing of the cat guards so we looked for a closer vet. Luckily, Dr. Hurn decided to open a vet practice on Division instead of a bar or restaurant. The practice is in a new space that is very nice. Our two new cats have received excellent care on our three visits so far.

Excellent service and competitive prices. They squeezed us in for a check up and rabies vaccine before we were about to travel and realized last minute that our kitty's rabies vaccination was overdue. All of the staff are very pleasant and accommodating, and no one pushed anything on us that wasn't absolutely necessary. Very highly recommend.

2016: Dr. Greene & her vet techs are excellent! My cats are terrified to leave the house, nevermind the vet. I appreciate how compassionate, gentle, clean and organized they are. They were also able to retrieve and email me the original adoption and health records for my 2 pets. Dr. Greene even recommended a great vet where we moved temporarily. Glad to be back in Portland and return to City Pets Vets. Thank you! 2018 Update: If you have a healthy cat or rabbit and need a wellness exam or vaccinations, this is a great place to bring them for care. If your pet (a dog in my case) has actual physical or mental health issues then I recommend taking your beloved pet elsewhere. Vet techs were great with my two cats in 2016.

We have been very happy with City Pets! I first chose them because they are in walking distance and accepted our voucher from OHS for our adopted dog's first visit. Everyone was just so kind and caring, that we knew we'd found a great vet clinic. We ended up making a difficult decision to bring that dog back due to behavioral issues. We really appreciated that the staff was understanding and didn't add to the guilt we felt about it. We're back with our new adoptee and have been in for our share of injury and regular anal gland expressions (fun!). Every time, we feel well taken care of and never rushed. Dr. Hurn has been very helpful with training tips as well. Care isn't cheap but I feel they are on par with other clinics. Highly recommend!

Most of the ataff was nice but the vet my dog and I got was very rude and racist. He asked me what happened to my dogs leg and I told hom I thpugh it eas a wart that got infected but wasnt aure and he proceded to say thats not true over and over again. City Pets have been great to us! The first time we visited we had a 2 year old male Fancy rat who was having some health issues. Not only did they welcome my daughters and their little pet into their clinic, they took us into the lab and let us look through the microscope and talked to us about what they were looking for! Since that time, the great staff at City Pets have helped us through the tough process of saying goodbye to our dog as old age and cancer took their toll. They've been there for us when we needed to get in quickly without an appointment when a part of one of our rat's tail's fell off. And they've been great about follow up calls to make sure our family was good and the healing process was proceeding properly. I would definitely recommend this animal clinic. I was very pleased with my first visit to City Pets with our new car, Daisy. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. While meeting with Madison , she showed me the procedures they recommend on an initial visit and the fees involved. She was very good with Daisy and patiently answered my questions. Then the vet came in (forgive me her name escapes me) and very gently yet thoroughly examined Daisy while Madison trimmed Daisy's nails per my request. The Vet answered all my questions. I felt no pressure to buy any special products, or pursue any exotic treatments. The entire experience was very straightforward and positive. I highly recommend their services!

First time visit. I worked with Dr. Hurn and found her experienced and excellent as a veterinarian. Her advice was refreshingly science-based (an uncommon trait among vets, in my experience) and there was no upsell of any unnecessary OTC merchandise (another uncommon trait among vets, in my experience). Their techs (Scott and Jen) were also very helpful and kind and my dog loved both of them. While no vet bill is cheap, I found their invoice to be very competitive to what I have experienced with other vets over a life of pet ownership. My current dog is older and suffers from pain due to spondylosis/arthritis, but I look forward to working with City Pets in the future for helping me manage her quality of life and health. I would highly recommend these folks!

I live just up the street from City Pets Vet, and love them! They are very kind, compassionate, and accommodating. One time I accidentally showed up early because my dog needed to provide a sample (I thought they opened at 8, instead of 8:30) and the employee who arrived at that time was very understanding of my mistake, and even helped me collect the sample. They are also very kind. I learned over the winter that my dog has a minor heart murmur and beginning stages of heart disease. I had millions of questions, and was bringing her in frequently because I was worried. Everyone was kind and understanding. No one made me feel like I was being unreasonably concerned. I would highly recommend this vet!

My 12 year old Airedale loves City Pets! Dr. Hurn, Amy, Joanna and Humiko always make a fuss over him and he loves it. Sometimes when we walk by they invite him in for a treat. We had been taking our dogs to City Pet Vet because it was close to home but when they both got sick we eventually realized their limitations in providing proper diagnosis and individualized care. We spent two months running tests that went nowhere and each visit felt like starting over and randomly guessing where to look next. After enough dead ends we looked to Animal Healing Arts of Portland who was able to immediately identify the issue but unfortunately, it was too late and both dogs passed away a few weeks later. I am extremely regretful for not seeking their care earlier as the expertise, empathy and care for your pet at Animal Healing Arts extremely elevated from City Pet.

We just had our first couple of visits at City Pets Vet and they were great. They staff are very kind and knowledgeable. My dog hates going to the vet and they were very patient and helpful with getting him the treatment that he needed while keeping him as comfortable as possible. He had a checkup and several vaccinations and had blood drawn and it was all done with him on the floor which is much more comfortable for him, though it meant that the vet, techs and I were also on the floor :)

I recently moved to Portland with my cat Teal'c. He was having some serious digestive problems and just all around didn't seem to be happy. After calling several local vets, and being told things like "sorry we aren't taking new clients at this time" and "we have an opening next month." I finally called City Pets and thank god I did. They literally saw me right away and were great with my cat! The vet techs were very friendly and extremely knowlegable, and the Dr. had some great suggestions for helping Teal'c..including probiotics! I am very health minded and had never even though of giving my cat probiotics, but I am glad they suggested it because now he won't even touch his food until I sprinkle his probiotics on top! overall my cat hasn't been this happy-go-lucky in a long time. I'll definitely be returning to city pets vet in the future...you should too!

The also keep you informed when your visits are scheduled. They also let walk you through why your pet is getting vaccines and why. When I told them I was unhappy with the level of service (being double billed, given wrong instructions, difficulty getting a refill) they have provided they told me to take me sick pet somewhere else, even though I had already invested hundreds at their facility to get diagnosed. You clearly can tell they care about your pet! Save your time and money and go to a competent facility. If you want more info why you should avoid this vet read on: Incompetent business. They double billed me for some services (see pics I have provided.) Provided incorrect instructions with medication. Since they gave me incorrect instructions much of the medication was wasted when I tried to clip the tip of the medicine bottle. They also failed to tell me the medication must be kept in a dark place and that LIGHT WOULD kill the benefits of the medication. I learned this after another provider gave me a refill with very different instructions! They also lied and told me refills would be easy to obtain, but when the time came to get a refill I was given the run around and my pet had to suffer in pain while the incompetent individuals at this office ran in circles trying to figure out how to give me a refill. I’ve had pets for nearly 20 years and this veterinary clinic is so bad I am surprised they have remained in business. The staff is absolutely incompetent! They told me I had to leave my pet there for 2 hours for observations, that turned into 4 hours at which time they had no conclusion just a long and length bill for me. Lastly I did find a reliable vet and found out they were also price gouging on the cost of medicine. I mean when your pet is sick and you've spent $$$ are you going to go somewhere else to get meds? Probably not so they charge a ridiculous amount of money for the smallest amount of medication.

They constantly are trying to upsell services, and I have had it with this place. We will be finding a new vet for our dog as of today, and I hope anyone looking for a new veterinarian will avoid this place.

I'm not really confident in the care they provide here, nor am I pleased with the way they handle my dog. They're weirdly aggressive, tend to treat my dog like with little respect for her intelligence, choosing to shove excessive treats in her face instead of making a connection and using them to prompt good behavior. Then they go off on irrelevant tangents about training that don't really help me as my dog doesn't have any behavior problems and knows her commands well. It's honestly usually insulting the way they seem to micromanage my role in training and caring for her without really seeming to go into such detail about her health, even when I raise concerns that go unanswered by the vet. How dare you not even respond when I ask multiple times about her wheezing and whether it could be seasonal problems or something serious. We still don't know. I've gone here many times and every time I figure that they've run their tests and done their job, maybe the vet was just having an off day being so patronizing and dismissive. But I've now had multiple vets here acting like this. I can only hope that they're treating her health more legitimately than they're treating us. But beyond that I think I'm going to start going somewhere else.

I've been satisfied with City Pets and have spent quite a few visits there due to some health issues that one of my cats has. It's not the cheapest option out there, but I've found their care to be thorough and thoughtful.One of my cats (the one with the issues) isn't afraid of his crate or the vet because he gets treats and loves the attention they give him. The Vet techs really love the animals and the Vet gives detailed reports when she calls for test results. I would recommend it.

They know how to keep him calm, and have done a wonderful job of recognizing his needs and offering advice that is honest, helpful, and respectful of my price-range (although, let's be real, I'd spend an embarrassingly large portion of my salary on this kitty cat if I needed to). I sincerely cannot say enough positive words to describe City Pets Vet and their staff. They have been seeing my dog since I adopted him, and since then they have been an endless well of patience and helpful advice. My dog Whiskey can surely be a pain at the vet, being a little 12lb Min Pin firecracker, but they are willing and able to work with his anxieties to make the visit smooth. The staff not only know their stuff but they are also passionate about it, and it shows. The cost of the visits can *sometimes* be steep, which is something to consider if you are budgeting, etc., but I personally think that the degree of service they provide for me and my dog is worth it every time!

I was super excited that they have a rabbit specialist as many places only work on dogs and cats. Everyone we met there was super friendly and helpful. I felt that they were very knowledgeable about rabbits, and every time I have called with a question they were able to give me advice. They even called me back multiple times to check in to see how my rabbit was doing after he was injured. I would definitely recommend bringing your pet here!

Wow! I cannot praise this place enough. I called for an appointment and they were able to fit me in right away! Not only that, but everyone there was so kind and knowledgeable. My dog (14 year old yorkie) normally freaks out at the vet; she was completely calm and even felt secure enough to look out the window and "protect" us. A little bit pricier, but 110% worth it. Danielle and Dr. Greene are fantastic. I've seen my other vet for many, many years. But the service, love and knowledge that they gave us made me reconsider. Thank you!!
