I took my dog to Astoria Animal Hospital after a bad experience with a different vet in the area dumping my 8 week old puppy upside down into her crate and my 4 year old cat as well after telling them that I would crate them myself. (I was also telling my two children to get ready, so they didn't seem willing to wait for me to get to my own animals.) Dr. Davis has always been very straight to the point even when we used to bring the occasional animal to her from petco when I worked there. Some people can definitely find that off putting, but I actually find it to be much more helpful. I don't like people mincing words with me. I like to be educated and informed about the choices I have available so that I can make the best possible choice. She is up front about her stances and I always know I will hear the truth from her. She treats her staff very well and I feel that her staff are well educated and able to care for animals in a safe, effective, and respectful manner. Now, when I bring my dog in to see her, she is very affectionate with her (as is her staff,) and she allows me to proactively handle my own animal while she works with her. She was very gracious when I threw my back out about picking her up and never mishandling her. I am a dog trainer and I feel that treating an animal with impatience shows a lack of professionalism in an animal career. I train owners how to proactively handle their dogs to make vet visits and grooming visits safer and more easy for the dog to process (I won't say enjoyable because of the nature of the business, but having a dog that is scared of handling is totally preventable!) Dr. Davis definitely has my recommendation as a vet, especially if you want an honest, straight forward, and caring person. (I happen to also consider her friendly, but I know that I have a great deal of respect and appreciation for her bluntness and her way of not mincing words, which doesn't work for everyone!)

I Love Dr. Davis and staff, My dog gets better medical care than I do, I like making an appointment and not having to sit in a room full of sick animals for hours,and hours. I guess it depends on the person and how much you care for your pet . It's cheaper than my doctor and better care , and that's a bargain. If you have a problem that she knows a more qualified professional she recommends them and I take her advice, she has never steered me wrong.

The veterinarians at this clinic are amazing. They're brilliant people and really care about the happiness and wellbeing of your companion. The only down side of this location is poor hours and that they completely close during lunch.

Dirty, scary place. Performed unnecessary procedures on my dog and completely misdiagnosed her. Incredibly high bill, scared me into hours of unneeded torture. Finally admitted she didn't know what she was doing and sent me in a panic somewhere else . Only good thing that happened. Other place caught misdiagnoses and unnecessary procedures. My dog would be dead if left in care of Astoria Animal hospital.

I take my parrotlet named Squeaky to this vet because no other vets in the area will treat birds. They're very good with him; they're careful about handling him and making sure they don't hurt him. They keep recommending that I go to the avian vet in Lake Oswego, since they don't technically specialize in avian care, but they've still given me helpful advice about changing Squeaky's diet and activities to keep him happy and healthy.

I have gone to this clinic with Standard Poodles since it was owned by Dr. Shatoe, before Dr. Davis bought it. The staff is the best (Dr. Davis, Carrie, everyone!) It's a 50 mile roundtrip drive for me to bring my dog to this vet (there are others closer) but I have complete confidence in the care, diagnosis, and surgery when needed. Compassionate, competent and kind. And they have farm eggs, too!

I'm very impressed with Dr. Davis and her staff. These people obviously love and care about animals, and are very nice to us humans as well :) They were kind enough to accommodate us with a last minute appointment when our old dog became ill (our regular vet, also in the area, would not do the same). Dr. Davis was thorough, delivered information in a very direct manner that was easy to understand, answered all our questions, and even delivered lab results on the same day as our appointment. Old fashioned rural vet and staff where it is very evident they care about their fur and feathered patients and have great connections to their humans. Everyone is greeted as an old friend and time is taken to give the best care they can. For those of you on the coast with birds, they are one of the very few who trim nails and beaks.

I, an existing client, called (TWICE BTW) to ask a question about my dog and was assured both times that the vet would get back to as soon as possible. I never heard back. I also called around 4:45, a full 45 minutes before they even closed with an emergency and they already had a dog appointment there so they couldn't possibly "squeeze us in." Their next appointment was 11am the following day. This was an emergency. I hung up and called another vet which had no problem taking my dog in and even staying after hours to help us. We will now go to them. This vet only cares about your money. If you have an emergency, they don't care. They're already busy with other appointments. I'm disgusted that I spent any time with them at all. I'm furious and will make sure everyone knows how they treat animals.

Going to this clinic for our animals has been nothing short of what the doctor ordered. The vets here are very good at treating and diagnoseing my animals. There is only one problem that I have encountered: the front desk people have much responsibility and do their best to accommodate patients needs, they need more help. Dr. Davis and her staff are the best you can get around here! I am a former employee, I left her on wonderful terms because my husband is in the navy. This is the best ran animal hospital you could find. Dr. Davis is the best advocate for animal health and happiness. I have been there on our best days and on our worst days and wouldn’t want to take my animal elsewhere. I will forever trust AAH with my animals from cradle to grave. This is a very welcoming place for beginning of life care, and the most comforting place to come for an end of life service. You will not find a place more thorough with their work. She suggests only what is best for the animals health. We try our best to make every animal feel loved and to ensure our patients and customers are satisfied. I have always had peace of mind knowing that Dr. Davis studied with the best of the royal veterinary college in Britain and is on the Oregon veterinary examining board, learning and staying up to date with the best information from the state veterinarian along with vets all around the state. You will not find a better and more fun crew than Astoria Animal Hospital! I appreciate everything you do for your community and how much care you put into every patient. I took my small dog in for a tumor we scheduled surgery to have the tumor removed. 2 days later the stitches came out.. which was off, because my dog was fully contained and kept quiet. Nor did I witness her licking or scratching the area. I took her back right away to have stitches put back in. While I was in the waiting room, dannell davis comes out and said to me. I have good news and bad news.. her stitches are all gone and she’d moving her legs around and won’t sit still to re suture . #1 I’m thinking. Of course, she’s not gonna sit still to have something sharp poked into her body. Would you??? #2 I’m thinking, My God, that is the stupidest comment bar none I have heard while living in Astoria!!!! Then (wait, it get’s better) she tells me she will need to sedate her to re stitch , Um, Ya think???? Then dannell davis starts quoting me. Aka charge me again for the work that should have been done correctly the first time around.. again, I’m thinking what kind of a money hungry -con –scam- rip off artists quack charges to fix their own botched work ????? I even explained to her I have 3 other pets who have had surgeries by another vet that went on without any incident.. My dog has not moved, I keep her contained. Shocked and upset I left and kept my dog over night as it was getting dark and do not drive at night.. Once I got home and absorbed what I just described I called and spoke to the front desk person. I had gathered my thoughts to better express my concern about being charged again… then the girls “dr. is doing you a favor.” LMAO. No, sweetie, Im doing YOU a favor by giving you my business and paying almost 800.00 to have a simple tumor removed, other places around here charge 60 .00 for spaying. And they actually do a good job with stitches, I felt by paying a little more,… Not only my pet but I would get better service and treatment, instead I get the vet from hell. dannell davis nasty, rude woman who talks down to you, interrupts you and cares more about nickel and dime ing people and more worried about. “I have to pay my staff” then the care of my pet. In a nutshell she’s HORRIBLE DO NOT GO TO THIS PERSON. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED I should have read the reviews before hand. Also when I went to pick my dog up in the late morning. I asked if they had given her any antibiotics or pain medicine and the receptionist said NO they did not. WHO DOES THIS!!????? After being stitched up no PAIN OR ANTI BIOTICS. MY GOD

Our girl happy and healthy thanks to this wonderful team. In an emergency situation they we above and beyond to help an injured kitten we found on the bridge. They stabilized her and then when her eye didn’t heal, they removed it. They have taken great care of our girl.

First off I was greeted cheerfully as I walked in, I had to bring my kiddos with me and rachel was more than happy to show them their cute kitten felix and give the little one some coloring books and crayons. This was my first vet visit in a while and I was at ease instantly. The waiting area and vet room was pleasently clean and the wait was very short to see Dr.Dannell davis she was kind and gental with my bunny, she assured me with a theral check up and very informitive advice. When I checked out and payed I was astonished at how affordable it was and how care credit was available if I was in a pinch! I know my pet was in great hands and they are very family friendly. I'd definantly return with full confidence in ALL the staff! Those delicious looking cookies at the desk are dog treats not tuxedo Oreos though, dang it!

called them after hrs to get help with my 3yr old parakeet that was acting lethargic .. there voicemail told me to call a number in Portland so i did .. and then got passed all over Portland .. so way i was on the phone 8/16/17 7:20pm my little boy passed away in my hand as i was calling for help for him .. so if you need help do not Call the so called animal hospital ...

The staff at Astoria Animal Hospital have been helping me with my sick animals. I have found them to be friendly, organised, and full of knowledge. I have asked questions that they didn't know the answer to and they have found it and followed up on my question. I like that. My animal was a complicated case where many trips were required as the problem was no clear and was hard to find. They provided all the support and help they could during the diagnosis process. When the diagnosis was discovered, the veterinarian not only discussed her limitations but offered referral to a full care emergency hospital should it be needed. I just liked them very much and recommend them highly.
