Good vets, obviously care about animals but by far the most expensive vet service I ever used. Took a house cat in to get a broken tooth extracted, initial exam and extraction combined were nearly $700! Highly advise if you use them, get a hard price in writing BEFORE agreeing to their treatment!

What a wonderful find! Since I am new to the area, I was unsure as to which veterinary clinic I should patronize. I chose State Avenue Veterinary Clinic for a sundry of reasons. Among these are the convenient location, no restriction on why a Saturday appointment is needed, and the beautiful and well kept facility. Now, I can add the friendly bedside and knowledgeable manner of Dr. Jessie Evoniuk to that list. My dog was reluctant to leave because he had enjoyed his visit so much!

Dr. Shelley Lenz and her staff saved my dogs life. Pronounced D.O.A she brought her back to life, provided a blood transfusion and plasma within 2 hours. She monitored my dog every hour of the night and her staff helped us sign up for care credit. Incredible passion. I saw their facilities first hand while treating our dog. This wasn't a normal issue with scheduling or medication pick up. This was life or death situation. Dr. Shelley Lenz and her staff prevailed. Shelley was rude to my 9yo for having a very energetic 3month old puppy that jumped out of his arms 2x (we were the only people in the clinic) she made excuses for having a dirty exam room and was very unprofessional seemed annoyed to have a puppy in her office. Everyone has different options but huge clumps of fur on the floor and an obviously uncleaned exam table is dirty to me and Making rude remarks to a child because an active puppy wiggled out of arms is unacceptable. I figure maybe my review could help someone.

I dont know why people are complaining about this place. I went there today for my rabbit and they were so sweet and took great care of my rabbit, it wasnt expensive at all. Had a good experience and Ill be bringing all 3 of my animals here from now on.

Without, admittedly, a lot of hands-on experience treating a dog with distemper, they were very thorough in their care and follow up as they treated my foster dog. Distemper isn’t a walk-in-the-park illness and we managed to save her life. They patiently answered ALL questions I had, admitted when they didn’t know the answer and were sure to follow up at the next appointment with the answers I was seeking (we were going in for weekly follow ups because of the severity of the illness). They showed compassion for the puppies we fought to save but ultimately lost and there was no question we (the vets and I) did everything we could to save them. I played a very active part in my dog’s care and asked the same questions about 100 times in 100 different ways and they patiently answered every time.

Really not impressed at all. Was supposed to receive a call and results to pick up my dogs medications on Saturday. Called this Monday morning and was told the doctor was off until tomorrow sometime. So now waiting on antibiotics until Tuesday, when it should have been Saturday. Worst part of all of it is it should have been OVER a week ago! They set up an appointment in Killdeer for us on Tuesday-the only day they are open in killdeer- and ended up having no staff in killdeer that week. Just seems very unorganized and not very caring! Will be finding a different vet.

State Ave is my go to vet. It is for all my family. Bella has had a couple surgeries and I was very pleased with both of them and they did an excellent job. Dr Jesse is very good with Bella and we couldn't ask for a better person to be her doggy doctor!

I have a hard time giving this business a poor rating solely because of the owner and her horrible “bedside manner”, rudeness, and money-grubbing prices. This clinic has two amazing veterinarians. Dr. Jessie was so amazing to us when we brought our old English bulldog in 4 or 5 years ago after being misdiagnosed by a different vet (out of the area). Dr. Jessie and her tech Sam were so good and caring. We then started bringing our German short haired.. she was a rescue and a bit fearful, Dr. Laura could not have been better with her. If you are lucky enough to see these two doctors while you are a client here you are very lucky and have two of the most caring vets caring for your animal. I also feel I should state I worked at State Ave. I could have a lot more to state in my review but I feel as though it’s politics and doesn’t need to be public.

Take your loved pets anywhere but this vet. Too many horror stories and too many mistakes/misdiagnosis and way WAY too many deaths. These people need to be reevaluated by whoever gave them their licences to practice veterinary medicine. Go elsewhere save yourself the money and the heartbreak. Horrible that a vet continues to be in business the way they are. **** And yes, of course you would not have any record of me coming to your hospital because I did NOT come into your hospital, I had spoken to you three times on the phone (which was more than enough for me to make up my mind about never trying to use your services and then especially after hearing all of the horror stories from other people in Dickinson about your practice) as I was trying to pick up a $40.00 case of prescription food for my two pugs as I had just got back into Dickinson from Canada and staying in town for 6 months again... so no this was NOT "cyber bullying" or "odd" as you are trying to cry and whine about, this was and IS an actual legitimate complaint and I still stand by everything I have stated. I took my business to West Dakota Vet, who were more than willing to help me with my dogs prescription food for their pancreatitis. ******* just a fyi.... with a perscription written from the dogs regular veterinarian... you can in fact purchase perscription food at pretty much ANY other vet office. Id suggest you and your staff brush up on the actual laws concerning this... unless of course..as I see...you'd rather keep on arguing with clients and turning them away simply because you dont even have the first clue before speaking and arguing. It really makes your business and you look even more incompetent and pathetic... but of course you already knew that from all of your other generic anger filled replies to other legitimate complaints. Went in and asked for a medication not available at your average store, however, attainable via the internet. I was told that medication could only be prescribed. I walked out and ordered the product I wanted. Thanks for nothing. It's no wonder local businesses are failing and the online suppliers are thriving.

3 weeks ago on a Wednesday I brought my dog Dobby into see Dr. Laura. She was amazing she listened to my concerns and also very upfront and honest with me about cost (as I am on a tight budget). They kept Dobby overnight and I picked him up the next day. Dobby was diagnosed with diabetes. We continued with medication and Dr. Laura called me to check on Dobby multiple times. Unfortunately Dobby's body could not handle how sick he was and went into renal failure. I had to bring him in to be put down it was one of the worst days ever but having the State Ave Vet family there truly helped. Dr. Laura explained in plain terms what was going to happen and also stayed with us as we said our goodbyes. I would recommend this clinic to anyone that asked.

This place is horrible!! I paid over hundreds of dollars and even took an iv home for my dog and he still died! He didn’t have parvo or anything that they could find they just said he was dehydrated. This place is horrible and didn’t show that they cared

My 15# dog got into Hershey kisses when I was at work and ate 56 of them (dumb dog for eating them, smart dog for unwrapping them first). Dr. Raul Casas-Dolz treated her at closing time and stayed after hours. He informed me of everything going on, the side-effects of chocolate on dogs, and explained what needed to be done at home for aftercare. They called a few days later to check on how she was doing. Great service and I will be returning to Dr. Casas-Dolz.

So much thanks to the whole team at State Ave! Riley has a pretty rare disorder called Craniomandibular Osteopathy. It wasnt easy to figure it out and I'm fairly certain we wouldnt be here with her today, in the fantastic zoomie crazy shape she is in, without the persistence and curiosity, without the follow up calls, without the research and guidance they put in to learn about her condition.

I would have posted this a couple years ago when it happened but I did not know this site existed, but this is what happened to me, I brought in a pet coturnix quail which had been injured. This species has been domesticated since biblical times are not in any way a wild bird, they have actually been domesticated longer then chickens. The vet there said they would put the bird down but they refused treatment and said it was a wild bird. I told them to call any game warden or any bird specialist, but the vet refused and said they just wanted to put it down. I then went to Bismarck to a real vet who was shocked that these vets refused treatment of a domestic pet bird.

Dr. Shelley Lenz is a heartless dishonest vet. She needs to be reported to the state veterian board. Horrible horrible experience. I went to West Dakota Vet for a second opinion on my cat. I had proof in my hand that Dr. Shelley lied to me. No apology and I was banned from her vet clinic. She is also lying to rack up false diagnosis so she can pay for her new built vet clinic. No regard for the animals. Should not be in business. I was never abusive or threatening to anyone at this vet clinic. I have no issues with the other two vets only Dr. Shelley Lenz.

I am a lady in my mid-50s and I moved here from a large city in the South. I also have PTSD and a beloved service dog. Small things becomevery large in matter, to somebody with PTSD and in dealings with my dogs health problems I don't handle it very well. The staff here have shown the most compassion and have given my dog excellent care. The Vets here are phenomenal in the care and explanation they provide. They have earned my trust. I cannot think of taking my dog anywhere but here because it's obvious they care very much about their animal patients and their owners.

We have always had a pleasant experience with State Ave Vet. They get us in promptly, have addressed our concerns, and helped our animals (Newfie and St. Bernard). We also found a sick cat on the side of the road and brought him in to be checked out. They ran tests, which found he had a virus that he would die from (no treatment for it), and put him down. Yes, we paid for the treatment, and for him to be euthanized, but we’ve always had to pay for things like that, no matter where we’ve lived and what vet clinics we go to. They are a business, not a free service (you can take strays, etc to the humane society for lower costs) But businesses need to pay for their costs, and we have no problem supporting locally owned businesses, even if they are more expensive, because that money goes back into the community. We’ve never felt cheated or taken advantage of. And care has always been handled well. Will continue to support this clinic.

I have never been so insulted in my life. When calling and talking to Dr. Lentz she told me that if I didn't have the upfront cost they refused to help my cat who had a very infected bite wound. She told me that if I didn't have the funds to help my pet then I shouldn't have him. Told me that they are not a bank or lending institution and though they are a business to help animals they are still a business to make money. Told that they do free euthinizations if I wanted to go that route. Told me that there are many adoption options. Said that if I didn't have a friend or family member who was willing to loan me theoney then that told her a lot about the kind of person I am. I don't care how hard you worked for your degree, you do not have the right to belittle people just because they are down on their luck financially. I will never ever go to this clinic.

I use to take my 2 dogs to them before they moved to the new place. Back then, they really seemed to care about animals. Now all they care about is money! about a year ago, I was driving home from work in the pouring rain. I saw a dog on the interstate that was injured pretty badly.I drug him over to the side and tried calling for help. They would not even listen to what I had to say. I was told I would have to put it in my name, pay for it on the spot, plus the emergency fee after finding a way to get it there. I called West Dakota and they took the dog in, treated it ,and kept it until it was better for no charge to me! Now today, I called because my dog is having an issue with her eye,which can make her go blind if not taken care of immediately. the wanted to charge me over $150 just to see her and that had to be paid before they could see her. like I said, they USE to be my vet before they got too big for their britches and forgot the reason one goes into that career, FOR THE LOVE OF THE ANIMALS!!!!!

Worst experience of my life. My baby got deemed vicious because the vet & owner of this office deemed my dog vicious and threatened to put him down for HER MISTAKE!! Everyone who has been around a dog knows to introduce yourself before touching the back end of the dog. Especially with a mastiff breed they are temperamental dogs. I will never bring him there EVER again. You do not threat an owner of young dog that you will put him down for nipping at you for your stupidity. And you also don't even know how to say the dog breed name correctly.

Although I am very dissatisfied with the outcome of experiences... The vet has sent me medical records. I know I was told on multiple occasions our dogs ultrasound was not sent off but now they say it was. I wanted an apology. Something more would have been nice for the death of my dog that I felt was very avoidable.... I feel like in times of crisis a certain amount of money should not matter especially when one has spent so much. It’s called being generous and as a vet an understanding. I have used state Ave for many of my foster dogs. Any time I call, they get me in as soon as possible especially if it's for anything more than just shots. One pup I was fostering from Texas wasn't gaining weight and started to have the wobbles when walking. State Ave kept him over night and called me with updates the next day. At the end of the day we made the decision to leave him there one more night. Well the next day was saturday and they had limited hours. I was in a wedding that day and I got the call during pics that the pup wasn't doing good and we needed to decide how much we wanted to stick into the pup and the outcome possibly be the same. I made the call to put the pup to sleep. I explained I was in a wedding but that I wanted to be there. They met me there at a time that was convenient for me between wedding and supper. Obviously they were closed already. But they were accommodating to what I needed and never even charged an after hours fee. Not that the money was an issue at all, but the fact they were sypathetic to what was going on says alot about them. They have great vets there and amazing staff as well. Thank you States Ave for everything you do!

Dr Shelly & Dr Jessie have been nothing but fantastic vets for both of our dogs! They always treat us with respect while addressing concerns regarding our pets. We’ve used the after hours number for emergency concerns and have gotten reliable advice if it was a true emergency to come in or not. But I would have to say my most favorite part is they check up on our dogs after they’ve been in for any treatments/surgeries! They truly do care about our furry family members!!

I have been going to Dr Shelley since her practice was only in Killdeer. She has been nothing but caring and compassionate with my dogs. She cares deeply for the animals and I’ve seen years of proof. The rest of her staff is amazing, too, but this cyber attack on her is uncalled for. I will continue to trust her and her staff with my dogs lives. They will stay on my speed dial.

So we have had shadow for 7 years, shes always been a thin cat. I thought I would get her checked out to be sure she didn't have any issues. I took her in to State Ave Vet, where I have taken my dog numerous times and never had an issue. They did blood work, and proceeded to let me know they thought she had diabetes and that they were going to start her on insulin and diabetic food asap, which I thought okay great she will gain some weight. She was going great for about a month, had gained a little weight and was doing well it seemed. Within the month we had moved. So fast forward through the month she had been on special food and insulin, I came home from work one day and shadow was laying on the floor, she has puked all over and was having a seizure. I rushed her to the vet where I live, she DIED on the way to the vet. They revived her (fortunately) and proceeded to let me know to keep her OFF insulin. So I take her home, she does great for 4 months and I take her back to the vet for a checkup. They do blood work and find that her glucose levels are completely normal, her thyroid is normal as well. She does have elevated liver levels still and will be on medication for that. I believe she was mis diagnosed and it almost cost her life. State ave sent records over to my vet here and the blood work they did was on the records and showed her glucose at 480 but it now shows at 102, quite the difference. She is perfectly healthy, and doing well. It goes to show that second opinions are always worth it. I'm not saying State Ave is a bad vet, I've been taking my dog here since she was a puppy and had no issues, but this was a grave mistake and we almost lost our cat because of it. I give 3 stars because our dog has had great experiences here, our cat not so much.
