Rusty and I will NEVER be back unless he is seconds from dying and I can't drive to Casselton (who I found out has a 24/7 emergency service). They DID treat him and he is on the rebound (hopefully to stay) but only after I dealt with two doctors, Dr. Ben Stengaard, and Dr. Kline (?) who were extremely poor at communicating AND had Dr. Ben Stengaard degrade and humiliate me over the payment issue. Rusty went in with re-occurrences of arthritis and nausea; turned out he had bleeding near his urinary area (which I was shown) and a severely swollen bladder, which was making him unable to pee on his own (and without blood). When that was suspected, Dr. Stengaard said he'd do a diagnostic ultrasound and would be back "in a few moments". I waited...and waited...and waited. Meantime, a friend showed up for moral support. We waited. Finally, I had to ask the front desk what was going on. He finally came back into the exam room and said he'd already started Rusty's catheter: "we're extremely efficient around here". While I'd consented to that verbally, if needed, he should have come back in after the ultrasound to say it was needed; then, obtained my written authorization, giving me a copy. After that, the rest of my FOUR (!) hours there (while my cat was being treated fine...I did verify that by demanding to see him at the end of the night) he manipulated me into calling everyone I knew (including friends who aren't very close) to temporarily help with the bill because I didn't have enough in my checking account or credit card to pay the remaining balance (beyond the $103 exam fee I'd been warned I'd be charged at the door). I explained it was not a financial problem; I was waiting on an inwire deposit to my local checking account from an investment account out of town. But it was the weekend and the end of the month. I asked if I could write a post-dated check. I said I would be willing to sign anything holding me liable with collections if I didn't pay. I showed them the website of the investment bank in Williston so they believed I had said account. They did believe me. But they kept saying they are not self-employed and don't make the rules re: the payment policies; I couldn't write a check because it wouldn't pass through their electronic clearance system. But it was ridiculous that I couldn't get clearance from a manager (and nor was Stensgaard really willing to try) when my situation was out of the box, yet legitimate. Anyway, who are they in the business to serve; themselves or my baby?! Also, they forget who's really funding their fancy careers! After the receptionist got a call back from a social acquaintance saying that she didn't know me well enough to put up $900 until I could pay her back (though she thought I probably would...it's just that her husband didn't want her putting the money on THEIR credit card) the receptionist said to her, "Well, I thought you were a close friend". Then, the receptionist told her not to worry about it. WHAT?! I TOLD THE CLINIC IN PLAIN ENGLISH I HAVE NO CLOSE FRIENDS OR FAMILY AROUND HERE. HOW MUCH MORE HUMILIATED AND DEGRADED DID I HAVE TO BECOME BEFORE I COULD PROVE NO ONE WOULD HELP?! The friend said I probably should have told them, "I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do until Monday", and, she was right, but I was an emotional wreck and, with the double speak they were giving me about treating the cat without immediate payment, I certainly didn't want him in a continued crisis, only to be told to take the cat home because I couldn't pay for a couple of days. He may have died. So, I had to boot lick these sons of guns' shoes in order to advocate for my baby! Rusty did stay overnight and was doing as well as expected when I kissed him goodnight. The next night, they let me know they were ready to take out his catheter, permanently, in a couple of hours, if he peed on his own; his blood was finally out of his urine. They said they'd "prefer" to keep him overnight and when I was trying to ask what that entailed, Dr. Kline kept talking over me. Then, I asked a simple question...

I brought my chinchilla here to receive help after he had chewed through his sutures that had been put in place the day prior. They took him back right away. His regular vet (who I had contacted on my way to the emergency hospital) called and spoke with the doctor on duty. Even though they do not regularly work with chinchillas, she was willing to perform the surgery necessary to fix the damage. Due to the high risk of infection, the inability to 100% prevent him from from chewing on the sutures again, and the fact that his appetite was not improving (he had fatty liver disease), we opted to euthanize. It was an agonizing decision to make, but the staff was so nice and made the experience as easy on me as possible. For those complaining about the cost, it is an EMERGENCY clinic. These people are there 24/7 to help animals that are not able to get in to see their regular vet. They deal with high stress situations and do everything they can to ensure that your pet either gets the help they need, or is put out of their suffering. I am so thankful that they were there for my little guy so he didn't have to suffer for a minute longer than necessary. It was well worth every dime we spent there.

I came home and my cat was not breathing well at all - I'm talking she couldn't even move. So I called and they said to bring her in immediately. They took her the second I walked in and explained to me that I had to pay upfront - just like any emergency service - and that I would be refunded any money that they did not use. They just have to make sure they can cover their own costs. Totally understandable, but not cheap. The environment is very calming for a distressed pet owner, and all the staff are so friendly and don't judge you for being a crying wreck in their lobby. Dr. Eric Kaufman came out periodically and told me what they were doing to my kitty and how she was and was SO comforting. And I was a wreck, so props to him. Then after some xrays, he took me back to an exam room and explained everything to me point blank and actually, he offered explanations to problems she's been having for over a year that I just thought were behaviors. He emailed me some information about my cat's condition and made sure that I understood what was happening with her. He kept her a few hours for observation and in the oxygen kennel, but let me see her before I left. I honestly could not have gone anywhere better than here and I am so thankful to all the staff that was working tonight. They were so calm and professional through everything.

We had an excellent experience at this hospital. We were traveling away from home and needed emergency help for our dog and they were very caring and professional. We were given an estimate of costs up front so no surprises. They were quick to get records from our home vet and they gave us clear instructions on what to do. The facility was very clean. We were very grateful to be able to get the needed help for our dog.

Charlene Welstad

Fantastic service. Was a little confused about the bill statement but eventually figured it out. I do not think this facility charges too much for what they do. My dog had an accident and emergency care and surgery was required. If I was too take a human to the er for the same accident and procedure I would have to pay 10 times or more after insurance pays. Thank you for your service

I had to euthanize my beloved dog due to complications from cancer at a time of day when his regular vet was not open. I brought him and my other dog here (so she could witness his passing as she was very attached to him). They brought us all straight back to a very nice comforting room with a fireplace and 2 couches. From there the staff helped me fill out the appropriate paperwork and let me pay at that time so I wouldn’t have to hang around after. They gave me all the time I needed before and after the euthanasia to be alone with my dog. They placed a catheter and let me hold him in my lap while the vet administered the drugs. It was very peaceful. They gave me a clay paw print and will be mailing a paper one. I am extremely pleased with the service they provided me through such an emotional event.

This place is a great emergency clinic. The facility was clean and a calming atmosphere for distressed owners and pets. We took our husky there late at night with a traumatic neck injury and all of the staff were extremely sympathetic, calm, understanding, and yet completely professional. Although our pup didn't make it, they did everything in their power and were honest about the situation.

Lynda LUND

My Aussie fell sick over the weekend and the everyone at this clinic was fantastic. I hope I do not have another emergency, but if I do I will certainly bring her here. 5+ stars

Erik Stewart

Exceptional staff who helped me and my wife through the toughest experience a pet owner can go through. We are thankful the professional and caring people who work here.

Mikal Liebswager

Had to put my cat down recently after a lengthy sickness and I was really impressed with the experience. Their new location is wonderful....clean and spacious... they even had a wonderful quiet room for us to say our goodbyes in. (comfy chairs, music, treats, and a fireplace.) I was so sure it would be very clinical and impersonal because it was an emergency clinic but everyone was very nice and understanding even with all my blubbering. While I hope you never have to go through it I'd like to think it couldn't have been done in a more caring and non judgmental place. They also made it clear that there was no rush which helped a lot. I can't express how grateful I am to have all that in that awful moment. Thank you to everyone at RRAEH!

Keith Laws

Worst experience ever.

We brought our cat in bc his kidneys were shutting down and ended up having to put him to sleep. Of course you have to pay for everything right then. So we paid with a credit card. Well it now has been over 2 years and they sent us a bill for $58.71. Really over 2 years later you send a bill and expect payment. Sorry but you could of sent a bill the next month or even a few months later. At this point they should just eat the bill because it is their mistake.

Katelyn Marotzke

They did an incredible job with a very sick rabbit, two days later and she’s as good as new!

Brad Samplis

#1 It's a $109 as soon as you walk in. They will take your pet in the back where you cannot go. I stress you can't go back.#2, After a minute they will come back with a evaluation literally in a split second. #3, next is where they will tell and hand you a paper that says basically without a upfront payment of $500-$700 we will not operate until paid. If you say yes they will go back and act as if they are doing something with your pet. But I can promise you they do not start until they quote you inbetween the $500-$700 range and you have paid. #4, There is no payment plan and the staff is incompetent and rude beyond measure. #5, the cat I was trying to save died an hour after leaving there facility. #6, And remember this, you may agree to pay the quote of $579 like they gave me. I did agree and was ready to pay, they said OK, went in back and came back with a counter saying the total would be far more possibly 3 times the $579. At that point I couldn't go farther. By that time they had already drugged the cat with a pain killer and dehydration liquids and I was $240 in with nothing fixed. Do not take a pet you love here or your wallet. I hope whoever reads this believes this and doesn't go through the trauma put on the animal.

I want to thank the staff for the all the help and kindness they gave our family on Sunday morning . Our black lab stated having trouble walking up stairs and was whimpering when he did, as the night and next day he only got worse and by Sunday morning could not walk or stand . I called them as we were leaving the house and they had a stretcher waiting for us took him right in and kept us informed. We had a few options and new that it would be hard but for him maybe not to be able to walk again was not the way to live his life , we chose to put him down the staff was so caring and compassionate and let us say goodbye as long as we needed. Thank you for all your help , Dr Stedman, Amy ,Amber and Mark. The Underdahls.

Our Bassett Hound, Sadie, has had two positive experiences at RRAEC. The first time, she got loose and was run over by a car. She was hit within 100 yards of RRAEC and a sympathetic bystander saw the accident, scooped her off the street and ran with her to the Clinic. The clinic contacted us from the phone number on her ID tag and we rushed to the clinic. Their first evaluation of her was that she was probably okay, but took xrays to be certain there were no internal injuries or broken bones. The results determined that while being banged up and sore, she did not have any serious injuries and would recover. We were extremely impressed with the professionalism of the staff, and the fact that they immediately went to action to provide care for Sadie. Her second experience was a recent possible poisoning. My wife found her chewing on an ant bait trap. She rushed her over to RRAEC and they contacted a poison control center and learned that the poison she was chewing on would not have any ill effects for her. Again, they responded very quickly once Sadie was there. On this occasion they even waived the exam fee. Thank you for being there for our dog when she needed you! We have a great vet, but both of these things happened over the weekend. We are especially excited to see that RRAEC is moving to a new location with more Drs, equipment and eventually 24 hour care!

Kim Mischnick

The actual medical staff is great but the receptionists are on a mission to get your money and don't even ask about making payments. If i could have waited i would have gone somewhere cheaper but it was Saturday night and everything else was closed. Do yourself a favor and shop around but if you're in an emergency and need to go here be prepared to drop a few hundred. Also scroll down and read the responses from the owner, I am horrified that I even went to this place after reading all that.

David Keller

Do everything possible in any other vet service before going to this place. Fees are OUTRAGEOUS!

Christina Nystrom

The receptionists were pretty cold but the people who looked at my dog were very nice. I am absolutely flabbergasted at the $109 fee that you have to consent to pay before they see your pet! It really makes me wonder if they are concerned with the well being of animals or the money. I'm happy with the care my dog received, but am shocked at the fee.

Julie Esterby

Wonderful place. Haven’t been here since they moved into the new location. Very friendly staff. Thanks so much for taking good care of Moka.

Shane Rithmiller

Dr. Grozdanic. This man should not be allowed anywhere near animals. After waiting 45 mins, we weren't in the room with him for 2 mins when he struck my 8 month old female bulldog puppy because she was squirming around while he was trying to examine her. When we told him that he didn't need to hit her and we would help hold her still, he became irate and told us to leave. I recommend everyone out there STAY AWAY from this dispicable human being ( i use that term loosely). If he will strike an animal in front of the owner, imagine what he is doing behind closed doors. I will continue to spread this EVERYWHERE because people deserve to know who they are "trusting" with there beloved family member. STAY AWAY FROM HIM.

Jace Foss

Blown away with the professionalism. Quick diagnosis, caring front desk, extremely knowledgeable doctor. Gave us $1000 worth of advice and info, for only the $109 fee, which is a drop in the bucket for piece of mind. We had a great experience with a very trying evening with our dog. Thank you

Emily Luebke

Ben is the best vet out there, only wish he would work at a clinic during regular hours in Fargo! He's so intelligent and does everything in his power so you can be back with your loved one. The service is always great and everyone there really cares about not only you, but your pet too. If it wouldn't be an emergency clinic, I'd take Willow there for every visit!

Marcy Salvatore

Last week we had to make the tough decision to put our black lab down. From the moment we walked into the clinic until the time we left we were treated with respect and compassion. Thanks to Dr. Kaufman for taking the time to explain everything and making us feel better about the decision we made. Thanks for letting us spend as much time with Murphy as we needed and giving us the peace of mind to know that she was to be taken good care of afterwards. Thanks to the whole staff for what you do for our 4 legged family members.

Todd Burow

Been here a few times with a couple different pets. Always had great service and care.

Sarah Tron

Have only ever received top-notch care when I've had to bring my animals here! The staff is kind, compassionate, and sympathetic to a frantic and worried owner. Yes, you must pay for at least the exam up-front, but think about it-at your regular vet clinic you must pay your bill before you can leave with your pet. I'm sure in the past less-caring people have taken their pets in for emergency treatment and then walked out on the bill.

Karen Hehn

Very kind and caring staff

Last night I lost my puppy while visiting Red River. He had eaten a lot of rat poison on the farm - even thought it was well hidden and covered. We ran him in and he went into cardiac arrest while on their table - twice. I am so thankful for staff who communicated well with us and explained everything they had done to save Abe. The lady who came out with a box had drawn his name with a heart and clearly been crying. I am so touched by their kindness. Thank you.

Medora West-Roehl

Our regular vet was closed today since it’s the weekend so we followed their prompt to call this 24 hr facility for help. We knew our beloved dog was near the end of his life and we wanted to make sure he went comfortably. They were incredibly sensitive to us while we were a blubbering mess. They brought us into a comfortable room, allowed us to be with our dog as long as we wanted before, during and after he passed away. They treated him with great respect which made the experience as wonderful as possible considering how heartbreaking it was. We chose to bring him home for burial & they released him in a nice container suitable for transportation. Thank you all. You made the difference. With much appreciation, Diggers family

Karl Sisu

Kind and caring staff. Vet Eric was compassionate with my pet and staff was impressive. My 14 year old cat was at the end of his life, and they have a room set aside for people to say goodbye to their pets.

Sarah Streit

My dog got into food that was toxic to him - it caused back-leg weakness/paralysis. I called this clinic, they advised me to come in because he was a smaller dog and ate quite a bit... We got there and I pay my fee upfront. They take my dog to the back - I don't get to see him get examined or anything. I talk to the vet - they have no idea so I have to pay for them to make a phone call to pet poison to get advice. The advice came back as "there is nothing you can do, it will run its course". Well - tell me why I had to pay $180 for a vet to not know what to do after I was advised by them to bring him in?! Why couldn't they have been honest and tell me to call pet poison myself and get their recommendation before I were to bring him in?? Unless your dog is really dying - don't bother with this place.

Pam Jorgenson

Not even worth a star. I wish they had a lower rating. Anyone who would charge a person $700.00 for an emergency visit for a puppy with a sore leg which they said according to the x-ray the toes were broken along with the leg. I'd like to know which dog had those injuries. I found out from my vet today, that it was only bruised, not broken, The puppy was sent home with a cast, a cone and medication that was not needed. I will never take any animal there ever again.

Lindsay Anderson

On one of my saddest days, the staff here were knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable. Very professional as well.

Tammy Quinlan

Dr. Kuklock was wonderful! We can't thank her & the techs enough for their care of Loki.

Kimberly Chapman

I had to bring my puppy in for an illness. I drove an hour and a half one way in the middle of the night to get there since that was the closest emergency clinic. The entire staff on duty was completely amazing. They gave her fluids to prevent further dehydration and explained everything very thoroughly. Not only that, but they told me it was better to bring her in just to be safe and never once made me feel like a bad puppy mom. At the end of the trip I wasn't even mad that I had another hour and a half drive home! If I had to go there again (which under the circumstances of going) I hope I don't, but if I did I wouldn't hesitate for one second bringing my puppy there.

Thom Plebeian

They exceeded our expectations with wonderful care!

Cody Landman

We brought our small chihuahua there at midnight after being concerned of the pain he appeared to be in, we’d heard that there was a huge cost for an examination fee and people weren’t happy about it. This is NOT the case. The doctors and the staff there are extremely friendly and work the best they can to see your pet as soon as possible. They do very thorough exams and can tell you what is wrong. As far as fees, there is NOTHING to worry about on that front. Any fees you pay is just as much, if not less than you would get charged at any vet. This is even a better experience we’ve had than if we’d gone to our vet. It’s so good to know we have a place like this in Fargo to bring our beloved pets in case of emergencies and big concerns and know they’re in good hands. Do not believe any negativity you hear about this place. They care about the animals just as much as you do.

M W

We have a small Yorkie-Poodle mix that loves to try to eat everything he can. One day he swallowed a squeaker. We didn’t think he would be able to pass it, so to the emergency vet we went. The staff was extremely kind, and when the x-rays didn’t show anything conclusive, the doctor gave me instructions on what to do to come back and worked with me on every financial front he could. We aren’t from the Fargo area, so we don’t get to take our vets here very often. Plus I would hope that we wouldn’t need to bring them to emergency room, anyway! But if you have to head in somewhere, I found this place to be an excellent option.

Marinna Himmelspach

They lost my pets paw prints after I had to let him go. They said they have copies from the scanning but its just not the same as having the originals.. I am super upset... If they care enough how would something like that be lost.. will change this review if the originals are found... also if they took the time to scan them why wouldn't they take the time to put them somewhere safe... Also never called to tell me his remains were back after sending them to cremation.

On Oct 18th, my beloved James was having trouble breathing so I brought him here. In less than 24 hours he was in respiratory failure, and I had to let him go. Yes, the services cost a lot, but I was given an estimate, which I accepted and paid up front. Just like when I have been to an ER for myself or my son, it costs quite a bit more for care than a doctor's office visit. So I was not shocked. In the end, the estimate was high, and I was refunded several hundred dollars. While I had moments of anxiety and frustration while waiting for answers (I even lashed out at some front desk staff... Sorry!), in the end I feel like my James got the best care possible. ** As an aside, when leaving him at midnight, I was let in back to say goodnight. He was in the ICU and in an oxygen cage. Looking around, I was extremely impressed by the large staff caring for many critically ill animals and Drs performing emergency procedures at this time of night.** The process of letting James go was both thoughtful and humane. The doctor explained the process and what to expect. They gave us a room that was like a mini living room, where I was able to bring my other dog in so we could all say goodbye. We were given as much time before and after as we wanted. I used their offer to take care of the cremation and requested the return of his cremains, as well as a paw print picture and a paw print cast. I just picked up his cremains and paw prints today. They were lovingly packaged. I am grateful for everything RRAEH did for us.

Kristin Kruger

Horrible. Your pet will probably die before he is seen. Receptionists rude and not caring. Very disorganized.

I brought my dog here after she broke her femur. The staff was fabulous. I called them numerous times to get xrays sent to many different clinics and they sent them within minutes of my call each time.

Our beloved 13-year-old dog, Maggie, had significantly declined in health over the last several weeks, became very weak, etc. We made the very difficult decision to put her down and brought her to the Red River Animal Clinic. I can't thank the staff enough for the compassion and empathy that was displayed and that we felt. They took excellent care of us and Maggie. A very emotional and difficult experience was handled in the most professional and dignified way by all the staff. Thank you RRAEC!!

my 3 year old saint bernards stomach flipped late at night and we had to rush her to this vet. she was put into surgery very fast but because we didn’t have $3000 to pay upfront for 1/2 of the surgery we had to surrender her to a shelter so she could live. since then they have refused to tell us whether she is alive or not and won’t let us in so our 4 year old and 6 year old can get their final goodbyes, that to me is so harsh and wrong. Hoping my family dog is okay and alive, but i won’t get to find out because this money hungry company won’t tell us.

our little dog Sammy got a severe hit to the head, i figured him dead. with the Grace of God and these fine people, Sammy came home in three days. Great and very friendly, knowledgeable people, very compassionate, felt very comfortable there. You cant go wrong, we thank you!

We brought our dogs Flash and Nova into the ER at the beginning of October after a tiff they had. One dog broke his front canine and the other had a small puncture wound on the side of her face by her eye. The vet played around with Flash a bit and the remaining piece fell out on its own. Nova was brought into the back to be clipped down and have the puncture wound flushed out. They said her bump was just swelling. They sent us out with pain killers and antibiotics after the usual overpriced visit. My boyfriend suggested that Flashs' tooth was lodged in the wound. The vet basically laughed about it saying the possibility was slim to none since the teeth have so much bacteria that her face would have pushed it out right away. Well just this evening (November 22nd), after her skin healed over the wound, Flashs' tooth started poking out until we were able to pull it out of her face. The broken tooth was half an inch in length! Not sure if it was laziness or ignorance but either way this was NOT an okay thing to overlook. We even brought them to their regular vet (FM Animal Hospital) where they also refused to believe that our poor Nova had a tooth stuck in her face.

I realize I should've explained more, I was just too devastated at the time. I was 8 months pregnant, my cat of 9 years had suddenly started urinating on everything. After a little while, he'd started peeing blood and meowing in pain. Money was extremely tight because I'd just moved from another state, found out I was pregnant, and we'd had to replace my car's alternator. Finally, my poor cat's cries of pain were just too much. At 3am, we brought him here to try and get any sort of help. At this point, he was leaving drops of bloody urine everywhere. I had to hold a tissue to his crotch or follow him around with tissues. We had no money, maybe a couple of dollars, but that was it. Vet saw us without copay, so there's that, but he didn't really look at my cat. We told him the issue, he saw that my cat was bleeding and said he would need surgery for $2000. That the problem would just come back later since there was no cure. We decided we'd have to put him down so would no longer suffer. They wanted $200, again, we had no money. The only option they gave was to surrender him to the place and they'd put him down later. I asked if I could at least have his body back, but no, once I surrendered him, he was no longer mine. We were powerless, we couldn't borrow money, couldn't do payments or pay later, no amount of begging mattered. Just, "Oh, no money? That's too bad. Sign these and give your cat to the receptionist on your way out." This cat had been such a great friend to me for years. Always cuddled up to me no matter where I was laying or sitting. Animals aren't just pets and are very close family members to many. It is devastating to lose them. It seems those working at that time have forgotten that. If we had had money at the time, we would've spent it to at least be there in his final moments! I honestly debated hanging out for the next few days to wait for them to dump the dead bodies of pets into their dumpsters...I know that's what some clinics do with them. Whether they do or not, I don't know. Absolutely no sympathy here. They only want your money, they couldn't care less if your pet dies.

Francesca Hernandez

I am SO GRATEFUL for the service and care that they provided for my fur baby yesterday. I called in advance that were were arriving and they were waiting for us.They were quick and showed great care ..They saved her life. They are angels and I cant say THANK YOU enough

Terrible place with uncaring, horrible staff. People who are clearly in it for the money. Took dog back and refused to let us go back with her. Demanded 600 dollars to even let us see our pet. Asked us if our dog was worth the money. Could not answer any of our medical questions. Do not take your pet here if you care about them at all.

Esme Johnson

They took the BEST care of our fur babe that needed an emergency splenectomy. They were very honest(and sympathetic) about possible outcomes, walked us through everything step-by-step, and did every little thing to show they really cared about our pup. They are not only very attentive to the animals needs, but also to making sure the owners are comfortable with their pet being there. We couldn’t be any happier with this place!!

Damon Job

Very caring staff.

Keifer Pesola

Woke up to a dog yelping in pain and quite miserable. First place I found was RRAEH, and I couldn’t be happier. If I’m ever in need of emergency vet care, this will definitely be my first place to go and will be highly recommended by me. Thank you for the care you provided to Chloe!

Unless your pet is actively dying going to this clinic is a waste of time and money. I brought my 10 year old Brittany to this clinic on Friday evening for a nose bleed and compromised air way do to an obstruction of some sort in her nose. After 4 hours and $336.00 dollars I walked out of the clinic knowing her blood clotting factor is within normal range. That's it. The staff refused to examine my dog unless i agreed to let them "take her in back" and I would have to go wait in the front lobby where it would be more comfortable. Comfortable for who I ask?? Not my pet or I. Unless you are prepared to drop off a blank check and your pet to do with what they please you will not get help from this clinic. Please save your money and wait to see a regular clinic. My heart is breaking as I sit this Sunday morning watching my dog continue to have difficulty breathing. I will NEVER set foot in that clinic again. Holly Z.

Love this clinic. They found out the combination of nextguard and heartguard were toxic for my Yorkie. She developed spots on her eyes from it. She had retinal trauma from the meds. I discontinued them, and switched to frontline and interceptor. Results have been great...her retina looks good...recheck in 6 months. Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!

Terrible the dr. Didn't really care to find out what I thought was wrong because his 20 years of expierence knew what was wrong after doing all the tests and x-rays that my normal vet and the casselton vet all did came back with the same result and an apology that he should have looked into what I thought was wrong. All besides the fact the dr. Seemed like he was on some kind of drugs he could make a sentence kept saying yeah and um over and over again like he couldn't put together a coherent sentence. It literally just took him 15 minutes of saying yeah and um on the phone to tell me he isn't getting better and started to decline and that we aren't discharging him. What aboUT any of that should take 15 minutes I really think the vets here use drugs. And for this being the only 24 hr vet clinic in a town of over 100 thousing people you would expect it to not be staffed with dr. Who can't even form a coherent sentence. Bring your animal to the 24 hr caselton vet if you can trust me you wont regret it. Much better vets in casselton

Waited for over an hour and still did not see the vet

Gracie had incision bust open and they saved her life! Very fortunate to have a hospital like this in our community!!

In my opinion this is an Absolute trash facility. shame how 1 doctor can ruin an entire atmosphere to an emergency clinic. Money first treatment second!

Daniel Brauch

I will never come back again. Wait about 2 hours just to see the vet.

These people are amazing. They saved my dogs life !! Very competent care and I can not thank them enough. I carried a limp 80 pound dog in there, and four days later he walked out healthy. I am forever grateful for this great staff who treated us with compassion and reassurance that they would do everything for Milo that they could. This is definately the place to bring a very sick dog.

Atrociously slow. Abysmal communication. Provides treatment prior to consulting with the animals owners. Can’t comment on the treatment as of this time. It appears to be working, but time will tell. Edit: The treatment given lasted less than 8 hours. Our pet is experiencing the same symptoms, but more severe than when we brought him in. A waste of nearly $250. I normally don’t leave reviews for anything, but this place is a giant cluster. Find somewhere else if you can unless you have hours to sit around and twiddle your thumbs wondering if someone will ever come talk to you.

I've unfortunately had to come here many times. Dr. Stegman in particular is incredibly kind when you're bawling and looking for help. It can be hard to find someone that knows a lot about ferrets, especially in an emergency. 100% recommend RRAEC

This review is somewhat delayed, but will hopefully help someone else in a similar situation. Last August my 5 year old dog, who was very active and ran 6 miles everyday with me, became extremely tired. He could no longer run with me, became too exhausted to walk outside to go to the bathroom, and finally one morning was unable to walk. All of his legs were locked up, and he was unable to move. I loaded him by hand and brought him to Red River Animal Emergency. He was seen by Dr Ben Stegman. Almost immediately he seemed irritated that I was there, probably because my dog wasn't missing a limb or bleeding. I told him I suspected lymes disease because of where I live. Dr Stegman said it's definitely not lymes, and insisted my dog is fat and out of shape! I was so irritated. I asked if he'd test for lymes, since at this point I've already spent several hundred dollars just to walk through the door. He said he personally wouldn't if it were his dog. I chose to. Low and behold, he was positive for lymes! Dr Stegman was ready to kick us out the door with a weight loss plan instead of the proper medication needed for lymes. Which, by the way, was over $750 all said and done. Long story short, I'd never go here unless it's your absolute last option. If Dr Stegman sees your pet, I'd highly recommend requesting someone else. Someone else who cares about you and your pet.

Brought our kitten in for a wound on his neck. They were very friendly, knowledgeable, and understanding about us not having a huge amount of funds. The whole process was pretty quick and they answered all of our questions. The vet was also very detailed in explaining what was wrong! Over all good expierence!

All I have to say is thank you. I was in a state of panic and on the verge of a panic attack when my kitten got into some lillies I had. I called and the receptionist was very calm and kept me calm. I got there and yes you have to pay 109 upfront, but isn't your pet worth it? After everything was said and done and the vet came and spoke to me I felt a sense of relief. With getting her there right away and giving her a bath the vet was optimistic that she was going to be ok. Like I said I know it's expensive but they offer a credit card you can apply for and if you get declined they have a payment plan you can do. They're very flexible and willing to work with you. Thank you guys so much for keeping me calm and taking such good care of my baby.

When I was the first time cat owner I got my cat from a barn. She came with many illnesses to the point of where she was vomiting blood pooping blood wouldn't eat wouldn't drink and so I got scared and I couldn't get her into the veterinarian that she goes to and they took her back immediately and tested her for feline leukemia came back she was fine so they did a bunch of other tests and found out that her digestive system was not normal and so she had to eat special Kitty food and they didn't charge me much I want to thank you guys for saving my cat's life without you she would have surely died

While this place does provide top quality care for your animals, don’t expect to be treated well by the staff. Our dog Andre became ill and we had to take him here as they were the only animal clinic open on a Sunday, and it was obvious that Andre was in great distress. When it became apparent that his illness wasn’t something that could be handled with medication and that he would indeed need a surgery that we couldn’t afford, our hearts began breaking. This extremely painful time was made worse by the staff at this clinic. Any question we asked about our dogs health was brought back around to the topic of money, any explanation of his situation ended with the clinics employees and doctors asking and demanding money. The staffs lack of empathy was astounding, and served to make our pain worse, and their indifference to our pain was inhuman. We eventually had to surrender Andre in the hopes that a shelter would accept him and cover his medical costs, but I will forever remember the horrible treatment that we received from the people here. As my husband and I sat there crying about losing our beloved pet, money money money was all we were asked about. An animal clinic should care as much about the animals as they do the money, they should understand and be empathetic of the pain that people are in, and they should not leave people feeling as if they’d just been told to “pay up or your dog dies.” We had to come here because it was Sunday and our usual vet was unavailable, and because of the cold, heartless nature of the employees here, we will not return. As a result of the unbearable decision we were forced to make, we will never be told by this clinic if our pup was treated and survived, we may never know if they found him a shelter willing to take him and provide him the care that we couldn’t afford. While we are grateful for the level and quality of care that they provided for Andre, and we will always hope that we made the right choice to give him a chance to survive, this place needs to learn a thing or two about treating humans with the same dignity they give the animals.

We received great care last night when we were in there with our dog. The vet was compassionate and treated our dog like had been his vet for years. Thank you!

It's an emergency hospital, expect to pay double for convenience. My dog eats 6 cups of food a day, and weighed in at 88lbs on 6/19 at a different facility. Took him to red river 6/26 and he weighed in at 80.7. He dropped to 4 cups a day on the 24/25. I'm not worried about rapid weight loss, as was suggested, I'm concerned I brought my dog to a place that overcharged with bad equipment that's going to throw his medication off.

My cousins dog was hit by a truck. Brought to the vet with broken leg possible hip and internal bleeding. They quoted around $5000 for surgery. The vet refused to put her down because she is young so he had to sign her over to them so they can do surgery and put her up for adoption. BUT they will not tell us anything.. if she had to be put down.. made it through surgery.. adopted to a good family.. nothing. So absolutely no closure on the situation. Makes me sick they do that to people! DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE!!!

Amy Crowell

We have been here multiple times with our Maltese mix and have had excellent service from Dr. Kramer and the technicians. Thank you!

We had to put our old kitty down. It was a very tough day. The clinic staff made us feel welcome. They were thoughtful, caring and sensitive. They made sure our kitty and we felt comfortable with the entire process. The kindness and care that we received filled our hearts with warmth. They also sent us the nicest sympathy card afterwards. Thank you to everyone who helped us.

Hate that I had to go, but couldn’t have asked for better support for my sick dog. Thank you.

Renae Hansen

The staff treated my dog with the best care possible. They did a great job of keeping us informed of his status as well. He would not have survived if it were not for the hard work of everyone at the clinic. Yes, it was expensive (like any emergency service) but worth it for us to save our pup!

Haley Rotenberger

They saved my husky/lab mix. Very knowledgeable doctor, staff were amazing and kept me updated on my girl. I will be forever grateful.

We recently needed the services of RRAEH for our elderly dog who needed to be put down. We had our beloved dog since he was a puppy and the staff made us feel like we were at home and made sure we were all comfortable during the process. Amazing staff and very caring and comforting.

Meagan Cogsdell

Had a great experience with this vet! Had to bring my cat here from Grand Forks in the middle of the night and all of the staff were amazing to my cat, she was very sick and aggressive and they helped as much as they could and now she’s on the road to getting better! They explained everything in detail and were more than willing to help. The only downside was I had to wait a while for her meds but they had more animals come in so that is to be expected. They even emailed me her vet records and everything they found while she was there. I am so happy with my experience and have a peace of mind knowing she’s going to start feeling better. Thanks to the amazing staff at this animal hospital for helping Harley!

Waited 2 hours and didn't even get to see the vet. Asked how long it would take to be seen. She said at least another hour, unless another dog comes in that's more urgent. So be prepared to wait and wait. Now that I've seen the reviews, I'm thankful that I didn't have more patience. Sounds like you can't go back to the room with your dog...and you don't even know what they are doing, and then they charge you a big bill and hold your dog for ransom...scary. I think people should steer clear of this place. Nala will just have to wait with her ear infection till the weekend is over and we can go to our trusted vet.

Steve Maul

The staff was awesome. They even sent us a card signed by all of them. Clean facility. Caring staff when we put chewie down. Thanks for your care and concern guys.
