I have been taking my dog there for the last 12 years. Dr. Giancola and his staff are true animal lovers. I trust him so much and consider myself to be lucky to find him.

Excellent care of pets and their humans

The care my pets received at AHC was fine. However, as an owner and a professional myself, I am heartily disappointed with my experience with Animal Health Center, Dr. G, and his office staff. I took my cat to see him a handful of times in 2014. I always paid my balance in full. Four and a half years later, I start receiving notices from a collections agency for $60, that I'm sure I have paid. I had the documentation to prove it. After seven phone calls and no response back, I decided to cut my losses and just pay the $60 AGAIN because Dr. G and his office staff do not have the courtesy to return a phone call nor do they have the forethought to reach out to me directly. I still get emails all the time saying my cat is due for a check up. They can obviously contact me. I will be making a report to the Better Business Bureau, because this behavior is unprofessional and unacceptable. I know Dr. G's prices are good, but since you'll be paying some things TWICE, save yourself the hassle and find a different vet. You can get the same if not better care at dozens of other locations in the area. I’ve heard he has a new policy of not treating rescues, which could explain why all of a sudden I’m being charged AGAIN since I adopted my cat through a rescue that recommended Dr. G. Had the office contacted me initially or returned any of my calls later, I feel we could’ve resolved it. I’m happy to even pay for care rendered to my cat prior to his adoption by me. However, to completely disregard someone who is making good faith efforts to contact you is unacceptable.

I've been taking my animals to Dr. G for 20 years! He is the most caring vet that I have ever known. I have referred several friends to him too and they have all had great experiences. Thank you Dr. G and staff for keeping my animals healthy and happy!!!

Dr G is the best..he's honest and really cares about you & your pet. I have never had a better vet and I am so thankful my former dog walker recommended him.

Hillary Weinstein

Dr G is an amazing Dr and surgeon . He loves the animals from his heart and isn't out for the money. My husband and I feel blessed that we have him as our vet!

As far as I am concerned, you will not find a more dedicated, compassionate and exceptional vet anywhere in the city. While you may be sitting in the waiting room for awhile before he sees you, there is a reason for it. He doesn't rush you out when he does. He takes time with your pet and you. For him, this is not just a business. He is devoted to what he does.

Dr. G has cared for my Liza Kitty from 7 months to her matronly 8 years. I trust his competence and his knowledge. He was recommended to me by the rescue organization from whom I adopted my Liza, and I feel very lucky to have him as her vet.

Peggy Ledger

This vet made time for a sick cat on the Saturday of a holiday weekend! He and his staff cared more about helping a sick animal than they did about getting people in and out quickly!!! I recommend him to all of my friends!

Jahiz Barlas

Dr G has to be the best vet I have ever known! He genuinely cares about the pets and their owners: I saw on numerous occasions him and his staff do medical procedures. They work with the owners on payment. In the time I lived in UES, my dog had a few bad luck events happen that required surgery, once being bitten by anther dog and once getting hurt while fetching a stick. Dr G did everything perfectly well, at half the cost compared to another vet had given as estimate. His staff offered help in payment without me even asking for it. This showed to me how compassionate Dr G is. Much respect to this man, he loves my dog almost as much as I do and every visit proved that to me with how many hugs he would give my dog and let him kiss him! If you're looking for a new vet or even thinking of switching, give Dr G a try. He tends to be busy but that is mainly because he's helping everyone he can, in any way he can. You might end up waiting more than usual, I have seen people get unhappy at this. But believe me, the visit will be worth the wait! Thanks for everything Dr G, Nick says hi and thanks you for how you cared for him while we were in the UES!

Dr.Giangola is a dedicated, hard working, gifted vet who is not about the money, but about saving your animal's life. He had saved animals of mine that other vets insisted i euthanize. These animals have gone on to live for years. He is compassionate, and diagnostically brilliant at assessing what's going on and what needs to be done. Expect a wait as he is in demand, and often takes trauma emergency cases. I love this vet and have been to most of them. He is a Saint. Count yourself, and your pet blessed, lucky, that you found Dr.Giangola and the Animal Health Center. I have been in the back area, and the place is spotless. The staff is doing air traffic controlling, so be patient with them.

Dr. Giangola is a great vet and the office staff is very pleasant and helpful

Jeanne Solomon

Love this vet, hate his office and have been treated terribly there. I think while he's a great guy and has a great sixth sense about pets, and I thought the world of him as a doctor and a person, in 2017-2018 either he, his staff or both are treating people with a lack of basic respect and decency. He closed his other vet practice in Brooklyn with no warning (people with appointments suddenly had no place to go since the office shut down, out of the blue), and the receptionist at AHC has been rude and unprofessional when contacted about the shutdown. My cat started with Dr. G in Manhattan and went there from time to time but no matter to these yahoos, apparently my cat is "tainted" from having gone to the Brooklyn location over the years as well and is no longer welcome at AHC. No explanation, no understanding - just, goodbye and good luck. Treat people like that and they will be horrified. And Animal Health Center and Dr. Giangola are doing that here. It's been horrible. Apart from that, waits have always been long, it's hard to get anyone on the phone, once you get someone on the phone you get put on hold for long periods of time, and they don't respond to emails or voicemails. It's basically an administrative mess. And his female receptionist is rude and unprofessional. I used to swear by this place, waits and all. Now I am beginning to think they just don't care about respecting people who respect them. I was treated horribly by this practice.

If I could give Dr. G 6 stars, I would. Here are 5. I recommend Animal Health Center and have taken my pets there for many years. The staff is courteous and helpful. The vets are knowledgeable and experienced. I especially recommend Dr. G whose work in general and in surgery is outstanding. He is compassionate and plays an important role in my pets' health. I have recommended Animal Health Center to my friends and neighbors and they have all responded with only great things to say about their experience.

Leticia Banuchi

With the common goal of providing top notch medical care to animals, Dr. Daniel Giangola of the Animal Health Center has deep feelings for both patients and their owners. Best diagnostician around. Proficient in every area of all species. Cares for the strays, same as your family pets.

Angelika Burkle

I hate writing bad reviews but seriously DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE!!! FIrst of all they were so rough with my cat I had to tell them to be gentle TWICE. I had to physically take my cat away from the vet tech during the visit after I saw him THROW her on the scale. He picked her up with one hand like she was a F****** rag doll!!!! Aside from that the whole appointment was rushed and they seemed confused about everything. As if all of this wasn't enough, I called and told them my concerns and asked how much the entire visit would be including everything and they said 140. I double checked with them to confirm on the phone "with all the fees and for all the tests that will be necessary to address this concern the entire visit will be ONE FORTY right?" "Yes, One forty everything included". Once the traumatizing appointment was over I got to the front desk and was told they wanted me to pay THREE HUNDRED AND THREE DOLLARS?!?!?!?! Just don't take your pet here. I have no idea how this place has a license.

Reposted review 2 years ago, go, rewiew was actually veterinary care provided by Dr. G 6 or so years back . I understand there have been a lot of changes in the office policies so please check New policies carefully as what once was may no longer be the same. If you are comfortable with what you find I recommend Dr. G as an incredibly caring veterinarian. I found him when my poor little dog had a teeth cleaning at another Vet and returned home in distress which turned out to be heart failure.. His original Vet prescribed codeine to keep him comfortable meanwhile, my dog was failing. It took a few days to figure out what to do, who to see and how to pay for more care. In my grief I was referred to Dr. G by a cat rescuer. Dr. G's quality medical care and concern for my dog & my tiny purse per longed my dogs life for 7 quality months. The place isn't fancy, but Dr.G gives each and every pet the time to fully assess, recommend and treat every pet. I will be forever grateful to Dr. G & his amazing old staff and team but as I say there have been quite a few changes in the staff and the financial policies so please make your own assessment of the new payment policies carefully _/\_

Spent over a grand on sugery and they would not even return a call when it was their fault. Chief has problems to this day due to an error on their part. AMC confirmed it and cost us more money. I TAKE THIS STATEMENT BACK FROM YEARS AGO. -> Dr. G is a great Doctor and has been taking care of Chief for years. Chief the wonder dog on Facebook. I would not trust Chief with just anyone.

Been going to Dr G for 6 years w my baby Coco. We added a sister named Pebbles. Dr G and his staff are the most wonderful, professional and caring to both my babies. Dr G is the BEST vet in NYC and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. No matter what- he ALWAYS calls to check up and give test results and see us last minute for emergencies. WE LOVE U DR G! Xo Lisa Damiani , Coco and Pebbles❤️❤️❤️

I'm so Thankful too Dr.G and Staff for all the Dedication and Hard Work that they all put into saving my Sebastin's life (cat)...My dogs & cats have been under Dr.G care for many years and I would not Trade him for the World!!! Dr.G is Extraordinary Doctor not only with his Patients but also with his Clients he takes the time too explain everything I need to know about my dogs & cats

Donald Sheffey

We have been going here for years. Was always treated as a family member. When we lost our first dog, Dr G was able to take care of everything and even the Assistant gave us a hug. Now with our 2nd dog, he is so great with him and the front desk person even took care of sending our bill to the insurance company. Great vet and Great Service

I have been taking my two fur babies to Dr. G for years. He is a very warm and kind person, who really loves his job and animals (of course). It can get cramped in the waiting room and sometimes the wait times are a little longer than expected however, I don't mind these minor inconveniences because I know that my cats will be well taken care of. I also appreciate the fact that the receptionist, Carolina, has always been very polite and lovely. It makes a huge difference when you have a warm and welcoming staff.

Eloise Loo

Horrid, take your pet anywhere else.

Natalie dePasquale

Dr G is wonderful and so are many of the receptionists/technicians. Sometimes the wait is very long but I think that is to be expected. We have been taking our cats to them for years and Dr G really helped us to find the least expensive care/treatment when my cat got cancer. They even shave my other cat when he gets terrible mattes! The prices are high but likely standard for NYC vet centers.

This place is THE BEST !!! DR. G is a wonderful vet. Even my cat Spice likes him. The office is generally crowded but well worth the wait. They try and help you get an appointment ASAP. It is a pleasure dealing with this office.

Christian Rodriguez

No longer responding to calls. Needed to switch to have my dog seen by someone else.

Glenn Eckhoff

Dr. G is great and really cares about your pet. I do wish that they had a bigger waiting room, but what can you do?

Mai Erne

Friendly and nice vets. They are shady about their rates for no reason.

I've brought my two Akita for examinations, vaccinations and experienced no problems at all. I made my appointments personally rather than by phone for the place seems to be always busy... "Dr. G" (Giangola) was very attentive and helpful and went out of his way to help me financially because I am a disable aging veteran with a fix income. Last year He performed a successful surgery removing one of the testes with a tumor on my 12 yrs old Yoroshii, (the oldest of the Akita). Because of my poor financial situation he allowed me to pick up my dog the next day and gave me specific instruction to help its convalescence. Because I get discounts at The Best Pet Rx Pharmacy, Dr. G wrote me all the needed prescriptions for me to take to the pharmacy...The Place is small and crowded so I walk my dogs instead of waiting and when my turn comes they had called me on my cell to start heading them back. Rhonda is grouchy but I think is the overwork and the small area full of people that want to get her attention all at the same time. I can only speak for my experiences during the very few occasions I had visit the place and cannot make assessments about what others had experienced. However all in all I think Dr. G has helped many and tries to help as many as he can thus the overcrowding. I also consider him an excellent Veterinarian.

I and many many rescued dogs, some cats have known Dr. G for 20 years more. I would thank to Dr. G and his staff : they are always conscientious and kind for animals and reliable.

Trevor Ten Brink

I didn't take my dog to this place because the receptionist, Rhonda was totally rude. After putting me on hold for 5 minutes, the call was disconnected. I wanted to just ask a few health questions about my dog and she said, "That you can do with the doctor" in a rude manner. I have to agree with one of the comments below, that the staff is "GHETTO" and seemingly could care less.

Jean Laupus

Been going here since our 13 yr old rescue dog joined our family as a puppy. He’s a pretty healthy mutt so we go only 1-2 X/per year. Our favorite doctor is Dr. G, but really they have all shown themselves to be caring, knowledgeable professionals. Wait times have gotten better. In the past they were mainly due to doctors providing emergency services for rescue cats & dogs, too, as far as I could tell. Wasn’t that admirable of them, if a bit frustrating for those of us waiting? I try to schedule our appointments for early in the shift.

Isabel Cheren

Dr. G is the best vet Took care of my CJ for 16 and half years. He is compassionate knowledgable. My dog had multi suguries, and diseases all with great outcomes. He does not look to immediately put dogs to sleep if they are not in pain. He is right on with his diagonois.

Dr G is the best vet out there! he really cares about the animals and doesn't look at people as if they are dollar signs! I've been through a lot with a kitty with a heart murmur I adopted (without knowing it) a couple years ago and Dr G was the only vet who was so helpful and supportive! I'm never going anywhere else! and most of the staff are great. I've never had a problem and I've been there a lot! The wait is the only down side but it's totally worth it!

Linda Richter

I have gone to Dr. G for 15 years with my animals. He is terrific in every way. The waiting room is small and we get to know each other! That is a downside but I accept it for what it is. He works with rescue groups so if that bothers you just do not go to him. Personally it shows me how much he cares for animals. He has a knack for handling animals who are afraid and nervous. Unlike some reviews, I have found his staff to be courteous and helpful. Would give 10 stars if I could.

Alan Watts

Came here for emergency services for our dog and needed human medical care after seeing the prices!! The staff was very nice as well as the doctor, but the prices are beyond unreasonable. For the prices that this Vet charges, the drive to Animal Specialty Center in Yonkers is well worth the trip. Truly unfair ripoff pricing!

Arlene Travis

Dr. G and the entire staff are wonderful. I travel a considerable distance to bring my dog to the Animal medical center and it's worth the trip. They are the best!

caroline colston

I totally love this place!! Dr. G is such a great vet and a lovely person. He always takes his time with my cats & I always feel they're re in excellent hands when I've taken them there over the years. The women who work there are super-nice and welcoming too, at the front desk and the vet techs. It's just a nice atmosphere. They're all really dedicated and seem to love what they do. In fact, I'm moving out of state and am so sad I won't be a customer of theirs anymore. It's a special little place that cultivates a very loyal clientele. I will miss going there! Yay for Animal Health Center!

Dr. G. is one of the best! He treated my often-difficult cat for 15 years from 2004-Nov. 2018 when she died after a long struggle w/multiple health issues including cancer & asthma. When we had to put her down, Dr. G. looked as broken up as I was. He's a great veterinary surgeon, a truly terrific, intuitive diagnostitian & very flexible & pragmatic in his treatments -- he will use whatever works. Over the past 2 years we had almost monthly office visits. Always little-to-no wait time, pleasant receptionist & techs, prompt return calls by Dr. G, test results relayed quickly & complete. All meds (there were many) were ordered & delivered promptly & correctly. In the exam room, Dr. G was always laser-focused on my cat & would not let us leave until all issues were addressed & my many questions answered. Regarding the billing transition, If he had to do it over, I'm sure Dr. G. would agree he would have handled things differently, but it's clear changes were needed, and quickly. What most mattered is he was 110% committed to caring for my cat from our first meeting until the very end. The best recommendation I can make is that, w/out reservation, I will again entrust the care of my next cat to Dr. G.

I never write reviews...but today I'm going to... I was there Wednesday for my first time with my cat...all seemed nice I liked the doctor.... he was nice....he gave me a liquid to give my cat for five days...it seems little when I saw it but at the moment I didn't see it well... I gave him the second dose yesterday and it was empty...so I called yesterday and left a message...and today no one called me back...so I called them and they said they were going to call me at 2:30 pm....I waited and no one called me so I called again and they said they again they were going to call me back... I'm still waiting.... so unprofessional.... I went there because a friend recommended the doctor....but I'm not coming back to this place ever again.... thank you for nothing.

Amy Schwartz

The most compassionate and dedicated vet practice you will find in NYC. Yes, the waiting room is small and you will meet true nutty fellow New Yorkers, but the care and expertise your pet receives is amazing. From the wonderful receptionist to the passionate vets and technicians, Animal Health Center is truly the best Upper East Side health care for our city pets!

rayne puertos

I have visited this location 2 times, once for each cat, and every time i am terribly disappointed. While dr. G is really knowledgable his staff is unprofessional and the facilities are filthy. I brought my kitten to get spayed and she contracted ringworm from the facilities. I can't think of a positive experience here. The medical history records are a mess and inaccurate. They still keep my records under the previous owner and have not updated it after several requests. Look elsewhere!

Bonnie Thunders

The waiting room can get a little cramped and overwhelming, and there is often a wait to get into your appointment but the care that Dr G provides is well worth it. He is honest and compassionate. He never tries to recommend expensive, unnecessary procedures. He's great for basic vet care and more serious matters as well- from checkups to neutering my cat to treating skin allergies to surgery on my French bulldog.

Stephanie Pilla

Dr. Giangola is a wonderful vet, friendly, caring and very generous to those with rescue pets and rescue organiztions. Carolina in the front is also lovely. The downside is that you usually have to wait too long for your scheduled appointment which is frustrating and the waiting area can get cramped. It's not a fancy place by any means, rather worn around the edges, but if that isn't important to you and you can deal with waiting awhile for Dr. G, the care your pets will receive will be great.
