We've got the reviews of people who are using the services of River Road Animal Hospital (Veterinarian) in North Carolina area.
As of day this business gets a rating of 4.6 stars over 5 and the score is based on 108 reviews.
As you can see its rating is practically the best one, and it is founded on a very large number of feddbacks, so we may think that the assessment is very accurate. If many people have bothered to evaluate when they've done well, is that it works.
You know that we do not usually stop to place scores when they are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Veterinarian belongs to the category of Animal hospital.
Best care, honorable service. You and your fur baby will become family. Team goes above and beyond to find solutions either holistically or traditional medicine.
Dr. Calley Steelman is an excellent feline veterinarian. My buddy of 8 years has IBD and has been on steroids (prednisone) for years. Dr. Steelman suggested switching to prednisilone, the metabolite of prednisone that would not require the liver to work and metabolize the steroid. She then suggested ordering a 1,000 count bottle to save me money (a LOT). He has responded very well to the change. At a later visit, she diagnosed Pawvel as diabetic and helped me learn to balance insulin and food to regulate his blood glucose. The staff is also excellent and complements the clinical practitioners.
These doctors and all of their staff are the best! Loving, smart and invested. In fact, the best I have ever experienced over the years with my many furry babies!
Very friendly and helpful. They called the next day to check on my dog.
We had to put down a dog we had loved for twelve years and one River Road had cared for over the years since we moved to the area. Dr. Callie Steelman and Megan, the technician who has loved our dog through many visits to the vet attended to our boy Jetta in his final journey. They could not have been better or done more in any way. We are grateful for them.
I took my three year old dog there for his normal shots and he had a very bad reaction.I had to rush him back an hour and a half later so they could try to help him. They charged me again for a mistake they made.He was very bad off for around five days. They called three days after to inquire as to "how is he doing". I will never subject my dog to their treatment again!
We give River Road Animal Hospital 4 paws and two thumbs up! Dr. Ali Travis is wonderful, caring and considerate and the fact that I am able to reach her after hours is a HUGE plus for us. If she doesn't know what's wrong (which isn't often!) ---she doesn't give up until a solution is found. The vet techs and other support staff are awesome as well! We've often had the "off the wall" cases and everyone has gone above and beyond to help us. Everyone at River Road Animal Hospital takes pride in helping their patients and their "parents"-- I cannot say enough good things about this team!
Good place for pets
I just moved to the area and I was very impressed with the professionalism and care for my dog.i am very happy with RR AND SO IS MY DOG!
Dr. Travis and all of the other Doctors and Staff are great. We needed to get our Golden Retriever in so see them quickly for his persistent skin issues and they managed to treat him that day.
The staff is 5 star and very helpful. . The hospital itself is very expensive due to tacking on un-needy costs $$$$.. .i.e. rabies shot would not be given unless a pet exam was given which bumped the bill up with a unnecessary of cost of $50. etc..A regular clinic would not require this. The location is convenient ..The Tech's and front desk personnel are excellent- 5 star. The Hospital has a difficult time keeping Dr's .I have been there 3 years and have had three different vets- Dr's. The very best Vet was Dr Thompson. She has since moved on ..
My experience with River Road was great. I live in Myrtle Beach and had a hedgehog for whom I could not find a vet. She was very sick but no one was willing to see her. My parents live in Southport so I thought I'd see what they had. River Road's website showed great education for exotic animals. They worked me in on a Monday and I found out that Ellie was very sick with what they thought might be cancer. She had not gotten better by Wednesday and we had to let her go and stop suffering. Dr. Travis and Brad were absolutely wonderful throughout the whole process. They were very concerned for Ellie and wanted her better just as much as I did. When we had to make the decision to euthanize her, Dr. Travis was right by our side letting us know we were doing the right thing. She was wonderful to work with and if I lived closer I would bring my cats there when they needed to go. I absolutely, without a doubt recommend River Road, especially for exotics, and hope that everyone has as good an experience as I did.
A very friendly clinic. The staff is capable of caring for exotics as well as dogs and cats. Dr. Derby has been caring for our cats. I'm happy with her communication and how she interacts with our cats during exams.
We've had dogs (and cats) for 28 years and have seen numerous vets, but we are astonished by the care we receive at River Road Animal Hospital. Dr. Ali Travis genuinely cares about her patients (and their "parents"), working extended hours. We get calls from the staff and Dr. Travis herself (often well after hours) to see how our dog is doing. Technician Brad has gone out of his way to help. The entire staff is friendly & accommodating. We couldn't be happier, and we recommend Dr. Travis's clinic. Update: Dr. Travis is licensed to perform acupuncture, which has given our dog a new life.
Dr. Travis is wonderful. Always thorough with her exams. Staff is always friendly and takes great care of your pet.
Caring veterinary hospital with three doctors on duty daily. Small and exotic animals welcome.
The staff is very good. They are friendly. But this place is way too expensive and they require services that are not necessary. They send their lab work out and I ended up paying another vet an extra $150 to repeat a result which was wrong. I am changing vets.
The best vet in the area by far!!! they were closed when we called with an issue our cat was having on a Friday night mind you and they said come in no further questions asked the care and kindness they showed was all anyone could ever ask for. Dr Derby was so kind to both me and my wife I can’t say enough about the entire staff also want to say that Gary and Misty up front deserves a huge raise they had such a great attitude and made us feel really cared for just wanted to say thank you
After going here for 3 years and spending $1500 on our 2 dogs, at the last "senior dog" exam I was told that I would need to have a blood test done before they would prescribe heartworm meds, I said that I would have it done in the Spring due to financial considerations. The "junior vet" then said in a very condescending tone "well maybe this is not the place for you". Three weeks later I noticed a lump on Sophie's head THAT THE VET MISSED and made an appointment. When I got to the reception, the receptionist said that the vet had "banned" us and would not see us again. I have since seen other negative reviews about these folks, so I guess we're not alone
We have lived in the Oak Island area for about 15 years and have dogs which we love. We have had three vets during this time. Then we found DR. Allie Travis-and now don't have to ever look again. Allie loves animals, has excellent facilities-two operating rooms with X Ray, outstanding diagnosis skills and great staff-i. e. Brad.At times it can get expensive- but if you request an estimate and tell them what you want to pay they work with you. Differently, the BEST Vet. Animal Hospital in Brunswick county..
Very professional and good natured Doctors and staff , and very caring. Would highly recommend them.
Brought my cat in for what we were assured would be a quick, routine vaccine appointment- "in and out", we were told. We arrived for our appointment on time, were checked in and seated, and then watched dog after dog come in, get checked in and taken back for treatment- while we waited. At least one dog came in was vaccined, and left after we arrived. Only once in the near hour we waited did anyone ask us who we were and who we were with. Finally with other commitments to keep, we started to leave, THEN a vet assistant asked us if we were with Kitty. I understand that vet offices get busy and there may be delays, but a little communication is key, and we got exactly ZERO. I really like the Dr. who treated our cat, but I am inclined to find another vet to treat our cat right now.
Dr. Ali and associates r the best!!!♥♥
I just moved to the area and called this vet to make an appointment for my dog that developed a rash and was uncomfortable. I was told I had to make an appointment for a new patient exam this is their policy. Ok I am glad to do that but the first available appointment for this is in 3 weeks. I tell them my dog is uncomfortable and ask can't they treat her rash and give me an appointment for new visit when available? I was told no their policy is I must come in for a new patient visit, so let me get this right you want my dog to suffer with a rash for 3 weeks until you have a new patient appointment?! Apparently yes they do they would not see my dog and treat her rash that day, to me this is not a vet that cares about animals or their comfort! They seem to care only about getting paid for their new patient exam and all the work up test that go with it! I also offered to have my dogs vet records faxed to them so they would know she was up to date on vaccinations and regular check ups this was not good enough!! Very disappointing!!!
Professional and caring staff was treated very well but my kitty was even treated better, I thank them all for the great work at stressful time Jay Fritz
Will never go back again
Dr. Derby is compassionate, friendly and truly cares for all of her patients. I highly recommend her!
What a wonderful and professional animal hospital. We recently moved to Southport and have been thrilled with the Doctors and staff. Two of my pets are seniors with health issues and the outstanding care and concern of everyone at the hospital has far exceeded our expectations!
We had to take our 17 yo cat for an emergency visit the staff and vet were excellent thank you for the wonderful compassionate care
I originally wrote a very long review...Changed my mind. Employees over the years overall have been very rude. I call them a "puppy mill" & "kitty mill". Check out prices w/ other vets, if you want your babies taken care of: for much less money. Also, just a little example: I have an inside cat. They charged me over a $140 for her "first shots". & was going to cost me over $500 for "all of her shots". I took her for her second & LAST SET OF SHOTS ONE MONTH LATER, at a different Vet. My bill was $48.00. Again, I really could tell many other experiences, but I do believe this is sufficient. Dr. Travis is a good Vet, imho, but there are also a couple of good Vets/ love our babies & charge MUCH LESS.
Great Vets, friendly staff, same day appointments.
I could easily write a terrible review of this business, but I wouldn't be telling the truth. River Road animal Hospital is the best place in town to bring your pets. The staff is friendly, and the doctors are all caring, compassionate and knowledgeable. I trust all my four legged children to them!
Wonderful people wonderful care, all my animals go here. Never been disappointed by them ever
Best vet I've ever used. Caring and professional
Dr. Travis and her staff were extremely professional and courteous in our time of need. Their diagnosis and treatment of our dog was extraordinary and we observed the same kind of care regarding the other animals that were being treated while we were there. I highly recommend Dr. Travis and her kind staff to anyone considering their services.
I have finally found my new vet! I've been very disappointed with the other local vets, but I most say, I was very impressed with River Road AH. Dr. Derby took a lot of time with my senior Bassett Hound and thoroughly explained everything to my husband and me. The staff is patient, kind, and friendly. The office is very clean and neat. Thank you for doing such a great job!
My girlfriend and I have been using River Road for almost 5 years now. The level of care that these guys provide can be found no where else. For example we had a 11yr old black lab that was very sick towards the end of his life. The day that he passed Dr Travis and Brad even rushed to our house to try to help him in his final moments. Its things like this and the many other things that they have done for us that make them one of the best vets in the state.
We have been happy with the service they provide. Everyone is friendly and helpful. The prices seem reasonable. We recently had our puppy fixed and everything went well and the price seemed very reasonable. Especially since they kept her overnight.
Great vets
The friendly and welcoming staff makes you feel comfortable from the minute you walk into the office. Dr. Travis was so nice and caring and explained all of my options in the care of my senior dog. It was a really nice experience and Max loved it too!
Always a great experience. My dogs love going there.they always explain everything ,and make sure I understand .
Best vet around. The entire staff is very professional, extremely good with all animals. So glad to have a vet that follows the AHHA protocols.
When you track down your vet who's moved almost 3hrs away and take your pet regularly they must be the best!!! Thank you Dr. Derby and your team for all you have done for me and my pets!
My family and I recently moved to Southport a few months ago so we were looking to find a replacement vet that we could take our pup to. After trying a couple other vets in the area -and being less than impressed with their service- we found River Road Animal Hospital. The facility was clean and well maintained, and the staff was very pleasant. Dr. Steelman saw our pup. She was very thorough with her exam, knowledgeable and able to address our concerns, was very attentive, and was very positive and friendly. Furthermore, all the employees here (from the receptionist to the doctor) seemed to love their job; this was very refreshing. The price was a little more on the expensive side, but it was well worth it for the quality of care we received (especially compared to some of the other vets in the area). Very happy to have found this place, highly recommend!
These guys and gals are pros, very efficient,
They are so sweet at River Road Animal Hospital... I take my birds for nail clips once a month... They're so good to my babies. I'm trilled to have them.
They saved our dogs life and we are very thankful!!The staff is very knowledgeable and super nice!
This practise is very professional. They have treated both my dogs with exceptional care. They found a cancerous tumor in one of my dogs feet, did surgery and removed part of his foot. He can still walk and run fine, and subsequent x-rays showed the cancer had not spread. Very happy with his surgery and care, even though the cost was astronomical. Now my other 13 yr old dog has been diagnosed with lymphoma, and it is not curable. I cannot afford chemo, and I cannot drive to Raleigh for treatnents. The State Vet College says it would only extend her life a maximum of one or two years, if any.... So I have decided to feed her the best food, vitamins, and supplements I can afford, give her medicine, and lots of love and care, and make her last months/years comfortable until she gets too bad. The problem I have with this vet clinic is they are way too expensive for me. If you are a person with lots of money, and you can afford the best for your pet , then by all means, I recommend them. The staff is so nice, the vets thorough and top-notch. But the problem is I am a 65 yr old disabled woman, who lives alone on a limited income, and I just can't afford to pay their high charges. I will have to find another less expensive vet to monitor my baby occasionally, until her time comes. I cannot afford $200 every three weeks to do a CBC blood test and blood pressure check. I already know these things are not good, and I would rather put my limited money into good organic food, vitamins, supplements and medicine to help keep her keep moving, and make her more comfortable, instead of giving all my limited money to a vet every three weeks to tell me what I already know. She is going to steadily get worse...... So if you can afford them, by all means, go to them....they are the very best vets in the area. But if you are on a limited income, you will not be able to afford their charges. Just a warning for us poor folks who love our animals.....
Love the doctors there they are terrific and very caring.
A GOOD PLACE FOR YOUR PETS
The Staff & Veterinarian took Complete Charge in diagnosing and treatment for our pet.#WeLoveEm
They were able to add her on. She had an upset stomach. It was almost closing time. Everyone was very nice. The only thing that I didn’t like was that they charged me a $100.emergency visit and I got there before closing. I thought that was to be for after hours
Dr. T is excellent and all of the staff are so friendly and caring.
We absolutely love Dr. Derby. She’s knowledgeable, kind, compassionate and gentle with my dogs, and SUPER funny! Not kidding when I say we enjoy our appointments at River Road!
Our German Shorthair Pointer had her teeth cleaned, nails done and a great experience was had by one and all.We highly recommended this Vet.
Caring, experienced staff who are very knowledgeable in current treatments. More than your usual "In and Out" treatment. As a client for many years I recommend River Road Animal Hospital, Dr. Ali Travis, DVM highly!
I cannot say enough great things about this practice! We’ve been with them for years now through a number of cats with simple to extremely complex issues. The vets are extremely knowledgeable and able to think outside the box. If something baffles them, they have gone above and beyond to seek out options from specialists for us at no extra charge. The front desk staff as well as the techs are well-trained, caring and compassionate. The fact that they can be reached after hours has saved us, and our fur babies, more times than I can count. I would not consider any other veterinary practice for my animals! #RRAHROCKS
Great staff. Takes time with each customer. This means you need to make sure you're not in any hurry to get out of there, but the attention they give to each person and animal is above and beyond.
As a new "cat mom" , I was super impressed with everyone here! The tech was very personable and reassuring, the vet was very sweet and soft spoken. They explained everything, took really good care of my Lucy, and even sent us home with a little gift pack to ease anxiety for her during our next visit. So happy with our choice to trust them with our beloved pet.
Wonderful caring vets
I am a relatively new client, with a veternarian in the family. Dr. Travis and her team have been amazing supportive, involved, compasionate, understanding in helping me and my four legged family members through cancer diagnoises and treatments, helping my cat cross the rainbow bridge in an emergency. I couldnt ask any more from the doctors, lvts and front desk staff.
Staff, Drs,Techs , admin all are very accommodating, skilled and always have my pets best interests in mind. Whenever we have needed an appt. that wasn’t previously scheduled they have managed to get me in the same day. Will discuss all options available with you until you understand what needs to be done and the procedures they will perform. Highly recommended
Our regular vet could not fix our boykin spaniels ear infection. They treated it for a year with negative results... As a result we went to river road for another opinion.. In no less than 3 weeks Dr Travis had it cured and under control... Dr. Travis is the bomb... We love Dr Travis for how she helped us...
Amazing Staff! This Beautiful Place is full of love and tenderness! Gidget is one loved and grateful furchild! We love and appreciate you all! ❤️
We have been instantly impressed with the whole staff at River Road and Dr. Benson in particular. She has been great with our two keeshonds, Gracie and Samantha. They are proactive healthcare professionals with a great dedication to wellness and prompt treatment. Having had exceptional vets in the past, it was a real pleasure to discover the same at River Road when we moved to Southport last March. Cindy and Rick Jones
Great doctors who took care of our rabbit.
Best vets in Southport.
This office will always work us in when we have an issue. The staff are all smiles. We haven't encountered a rude person yet. AND our Jack Russell, Gypsy, can be a challenge.
Always great service and the staff at River Road are friendly and so helpful!
Very compassionate & caring staff & vets!!!
Always great and caring people to deal with.
Love Dr Darby and the team. We are new to the area and they are very warm and welcoming
