The vets are a mix, some great, others okay. I had one who said my dog had cancer, but after a great deal of stress and 500 dollars, it was discovered to be a bug bite. However, I still came after that, everyone makes mistakes, but it is always so extremely slow. Give an extra 20 to 30 minutes no matter what. I would not be writing this if... Update, 10 am, best time. Upping to 3 stars.
We love Dr. Slaughter! (We includes the people and animals)
Kind and knowledgeable staff.
Great vets!
My Little Bull Dog (LOL) Loves this Place! Me too!
Very friendly and compassionate. Prices are reasonable.
We love our vet here!!
I've taken my 9 year old German Shepherd here a few times now. Due to living in several locations, he's had several vets. I can definitely say Academy East is one of the best I've been to. The price is competitive and the quality of service has been exceptional. One thing that is very important to me is that the Vet and staff take their time and explain things thoroughly. This has happened each time I've been there. If you live in the area, I certainly reccommend Academy East.
Very good quick service and a friendly staff. I am very happy with their service and will always go to this vet.
Very satisfied customer.
Best place for your fur babies!!
Erin is the best.
4 stars because no matter how early your appointment is in the day there is always a wait, especially on Saturdays. When you are seen the vets and techs answer any questions or concerns you have and you don't feel rushed. Expect to spend atleast an hour here
Good people. Excellent service.
Helpful, caring staff and decently priced. My dog has been taken good care of so far with his checkups and med refills.
This is my vet. Dr. Padfield was my vet before she opened Academy East. I've had the privilege of watching some of her staff graduate NCSU Vet School and continue to work with the practice as veterinarians. They treat my animals as if they were their own. On my worst day with Major, Dr. Padfield and Amanda went above and beyond, and I am eternally grateful. With Dr. Slaughter's guidance, Cara Mia and Arya have both dropped to a healthy weight. The drive through is reserved for special occasions, now.
Very family friendly vet. Great with their patients from the very young to the elderly. Thoughtful, professional, helpful, and compassionate.
Everyone is super nice and they are very good about getting you in fast for a appointment. The doctors and Staff are really good about explaining things and answering any questions that you might have.
IF I could give this place 0 stars I would. My family and I used to bring our family pets to this vet, but not anymore. To be honest I always felt their prices were on the expensive side of the "vet pool," and didn't quite care for their vet assistants. They seemed kind of lax on procedures, but it was never that big of a deal until 2 years ago. My dad had passed away, and we had to put our very old, special needs chocolate lab in the vet because my mom wanted to take care of the wake and visitors without the worry of whether we needed to help him or not. We thought we could trust Academy East to care for him while we dealt with this. We were so wrong. I knew my baby was on his last legs, that he was very old. He had bad arthritis in his back legs and we almost always had to help him up when he wanted to move around. He would let us know he wanted to get up by whining and would give the oh so adorable lab eyes and try to get up on his own. We thought the vet understood this, concidering they're the ones who had been taking care of his issues! But boy were we wrong. The condition that he was in when we picked him up about 5 days later was horrendous. Not only did they NOT call when his condition got worse, like my mom had asked them to do if it did, but when we did call they said that he had been whining all week for us to come pick him up. He may have been lonely but he would never whine (barking was more his style), which to me sounded like they weren't helping him up and it didn't seem like they were giving him adequate exercise, which was paramount in keeping his back legs strong. We get there to pick him up and the people who took my old pup out the side door ON A STRETCHER, because he was in such bad shape, gave us the dirtiest looks because my mom was on the phone (talking to my dad's aunt about coming by the house) and must have thought we were just the most carefree people who didn't care that our dog was suffering. We knew that the time to let him pass was coming, but their attitude...oh gee sorry, my dad's passing got in the way of us putting our dog down. The next day we returned to do just that because we knew it was time, especially after the look he gave me when they took him out the door. It broke my heart. The actual vet I took my cat to seemed like a good person and doctor, but overall the treatment my family received was not at all appreciated and because of how we were treated we refuse to go back/give them any business. Maybe my experience was an isolated one, I have no clue how they have a 4.1 rating, and it has been a few years...But either way I would find a vet hospital that is more nurturing and knows how to take care of pets of all walks of life and age.
Great vet!
I've been a loyal patient/customer for over 7 years. The vets and staff are so wonderful and patient. I don't feel like they're just trying to do test after test on my pets. I feel like they genuinely care about them. They've seen 4 of my dogs and 6 of my cats over the latest 7 years.
Wonderful staff...
A little pricey but they are great the people are friendly and Dr Bray is the best!!
Kind of a pricy vet but very good at what they do! I trust them completely with my animals care. Just be expecting to pay for the excellent care which I don’t mind doing at all! Keep up the great work ladies! And thank you for getting me in same day!
They have done a great job taking care of our dog and communicating with us. They are very reasonably priced for the quality of work they do.
Dr Slaughter is the best! All the staff take great care of my dog and me!!
If you enjoy being charged multiple times for "procedures we forgot to bill you for on your last visit" as well as overpriced medications, then this is the place for you. The receptionist, Robin, is an incompetent moron. She never remembers what you tell her and acts confused every time you talk to her. I would strongly advise against going here.
We lost our beautiful Toby two days ago. He was a big 40 pound Boston Terrier. He was kind, selfless, brave - with a love affair for liver pudding. I still hear "happy feet" when I gave him his "pudding". About 4 years ago Toby developed grade 2 mast cell cancer. A tumor on his side. Dr. Padfield removed it. He also had a patella luxation the Dr. Padfield fixed. A couple of years later he had multiple mast cell tumors. One was on his hock. Dr. Padfield removed those tumors. He had many. The borders on the hock were not clear. We decided not to put him through surgery again. The area over the hock had no skin - the bone was visible. He was in a lot of pain until that healed. There isn't much skin there to start with. It's like if you lost the skin over your elbow. We decided to treat with prednisone for 6 months. Standard medical treatment for this cancer. Toby was fine - enjoying life. On Wednesday we noticed he didn't want to eat. We saw he was struggling to breathe. Thursday he seemed worse. My wife took him in on Friday. She saw Dr. Bray. We had already decided we wanted complete blood work and an X-ray. Toby's lungs were full of mestatisized tumors. My wife called me at work in tears. That night I had to carry him down the stairs to pee. He struggled all night to breathe. I laid with him all night. I knew he was just existing - not living. On Saturday - Dr. Bray and Miranda came to our house to give Toby peace and mercy. We laid Toby in the spot where he loved to eat "pudding". Dr. Bray injected a tranquilizer and then a few minutes later the drugs that let him pass. It was peaceful and easy for him. He was so brave. He died in our arms in our home in a place he loved. Thank you Dr. Bray, Dr. Padfield, Miranda - and all the other people at the clinic who took care of Toby and Bailey . Death comes to us all - I hope I can have that kind of death. Healthy and living a good life right until the end. Thank you guys. We had Toby for 10 years - since he was 8 weeks old. We miss him so much. I am thankful that they came out to our home to help him pass. It was the best outcome to a terrible situation.
I can't say enough good things about this practice and all the staff there. They are always so sweet and caring. I absolutely love all of the Doctors there. Whenever any of my pets are sick they always get them in right away even if they are booked. That quality about them is so amazing! WE LOVE THEM! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
Compassionate care
I've been taking my pets to this vet for several years now. The staff is absolutely wonderful!
Excellent Care!
Great staff
Love this vet. They are inexpensive and the best veterinarians you could ask for. They always get you in and really care about your pet. Dr Bray is amazing!! The whole staff is great!
First visit well educated Veterinary about my dog illness and told care of us both. Great place to bring your dog or cats
Always there to serve very pleasant staff
The doctors and staff all know our pets by name. They are very receptive to all questions, concerns and the doctors here will even call you to discuss treatments, etc. They also have wonderful boarding and grooming.
We've been customers for many years and have had several dogs treated there. Dr. Padfield can sometimes just look at our dogs and tell what's wrong. She has never let us down. We've also received excellent care from Dr. Slaughter.
Excellent service and very curious staff. Grooming services are A+. Receive personable care and quick appointments.
Brought dog to board for a 3 day weekend. She came back happy and smelling great from her bath with trimmed nails. Instead of boarding, it was more like a spa for her.
I wish there was a seperate thing for the groomer. I have not been to the vet there, and this is not about the vet. My husband took our poodle mix there...the first time she was groomed about how I would expect for the price. I was okay with it, because it was cheap. The 2nd time her ears were cut hilariously uneven, about an inch difference. We thought maybe our dog was being difficult or something. The 3rd time, I was horrified! She looks like she was groomed with a lawn mower. Her ears have been shaved (she HAD poodle ears!!!)...but there are a few strands that are the length from before her hack job. Her tail has been halfway shaved. She looks awful! It's not just that she has been shaved...its that it is so uneven. She has sores on her belly where she was cut too close. Neighbors (3 seperate ones) have asked what happened to her...like she was sick or injured. She just hasn't been right since. She holds her tail funny and she just isn't the proud little dog that she was. I can't believe I paid someone to do this to my little dog! It will be Christmas before she looks right...who knows before she starts holding her head up, stops cowering at every little thing, and stops pooping on the floor!
I have used 3 vets over past 15 years, this is the best in town. Professional, accommodating, and affordable. They always give me options for care, and good explanations.
Great place to take our four-legged family members!!! Never felt so at home!!!
Great practice!
Dr Bray is the best. She had taken care of our dogs for about 7 years now. We appreciate her pragmatic approach in selecting what tests and procedures will be best for our pets and our wallet.
Academy East is titled as a hospital but if your pet is suffering from a medical emergency find an actual emergency vet hospital. In the morning I discovered my dog would not stand and was shivering. I took him to Academy as soon as they opened at 7:30AM. There was another couple with their dog that also had a similar issue and they believed their dog had a seizure. When the receptionist opened the doors she informed us that there was no doctor on duty and probably won't show up until 9:30AM or 10AM. Had I known that this place was really just a clinic I would have taken my dog elsewhere the first time.
We have two cats and really feel the doctors care about both our cats and our needs as the owners. Their prices are competitive and transparent. The ladies at the front desk are all kind and willing to answer any questions we have. Their office and exam rooms are clean. They certainly seem to cater more towards dog owners but as a cat owner I still feel like we are receiving excellent care for our pets. Wait times are reasonable and the doctors and vet techs do not seem to rush the appointments.
Staff are all very helpful.
Been special to all my furr babies
Kk
I've been using this vet for years. Decent prices and great staff.
We had a wonderful experience at Academy East they took our puppy right in for an emergency visit and they were their waiting for us to arrive and worked very diligently to help our "Buddy." All of the staff there were attentive to our needs and they were very understanding and helpful in our time of need. I would gladly recommend the animal hospital to anyone who cares about their pet.
We took our cat to this vet because it was local and had great reviews and we couldn't have been happier. They are all so kind, compassionate, and patient. We felt very welcomed and I knew our cat was in good hands.
What a great place! My dog got injured and they took him in during lunch, did an exam and fixed him without charging me a fortune. Dr Ward is very nice and the staff exceeded my expectations.
Very friendly and helpful.
The best of care for all our pets.
Great staff and always clean there.
Great care but a bit expensive. Boarding service leaves a lot to be desired, with dogs basically staying in crates most of the day.
