Dr. Obernesser took care of my dog for several years. Her excellent skills as a vet and compassionate nature pulled us through many difficult situations. Sadly, my dog recently passed, but the decision and final act to euthanasize her was dealt with great sensitivity and kindness. If I ever decide to adopt again, there is only one vet I would trust.
I switched from another vet practice to Uptown Vets when our dog was toward the end with congestive heart failure. Dr. Obernesser gave me realistic options, always treated both of us with kindness, and helped me take good care of my little guy until the end. After much sadness, we now have a new puppy and I am happy to be able to return to her practice for this wonderful adventure!
The office is friendly and the veterinarian who saw my dog was very professional and seemed to care for my dog's wefare.
I've been going here for the past 5 years and simply stated: They put animals first. If you want attentive, quality care for your pet, I highly recommend Uptown Vets. They literally saved my cat's life, one who's been battling urinary blockages. They helped implement a plan which has helped keep him alive. I can't give a better recommendation than that; I have my cat today because of Dr. Obernesser and Uptown Vets.
Dr. Obenessa is a great vet. She genuinely cares about our animals. She is concise and to the point about treatment options and procedures with your pet. She doesn’t candy coat words and is always honest with me as a customer. I have 3 dogs and can’t imagine them being in any better care than Uptown Vet. Regardless of the outcome of any visit at Uptown, I feel assured in my gut that the quality of care is thoughtful, and reflects the highest standard in veterinary medicine. I have availed of their services since they opened their doors and that’s saying a lot in New York City!
I have been using Dr. Obernesser and her team since adopting my pug in January of 2010. I have been very impressed with the care and attention we receive. We couldn't ask for a better vet. PLUS, my pug loves going so much, she doesn't want to leave once she's there.
Wren and Dr. Obenesser took excellent care of my dog and the front desk staff is friendly.
I love the fact that Uptown Veterinary now has one of their examining rooms exclusively for csts. My cat was 95 percent calmer during his visit last week. I love the fact that they pay such attention to these kinds of details
I brought my dog Viola to Dr. Obernesser from another practice. Dr. Obernesser not only treated my dog, but found cancer in my dog that had not been previously diagnosed. She referred me to an oncologist and we were able to save her. Untreated, she would have been gone in a few weeks. Not only she is fantastic, but she referred me to the right people. I have two regrets. One is that I didn't know about her sooner, the second is that I am limited to only 5 stars. She deserves 100.
Wonderful, and loving doctor and staff. Your pet is seen right away. Extremely clean office, reasonable fees, and lots of follow calls.
Best Veterinarian in Tri-state. Only Cornell Medical Center is on par.
Overpriced! I was inquiring about one exam and it quickly turns into 10 and hundreds of dollars more and god forbid you tell them you are not interested in the other exams they catch an attitude and give you the run around.
My cat was scooting and needed a quick anal squeeze for the impacted glands. Brought him in as I live near by...but they were 15 minutes away from closing and didnt want to be bothered.. I told them this is a 2 minute procedure, but they refused me. I went to another vet who saw me right away. I also called later to get some simple medication that I had run out of and my vet was out of town. After speaking with the receptionist, they didn't bother returning my call. The service is extraordinarily horrible. Go elsewhere.
My little kitten is in an unusual health situation and the entire staff has been so sweet to her and comforting to me. Thank you!!!
I've been to a lot of vets in my many years of owning and fostering dogs, I was blown away by how fantastic Dr. Obernesser and the staff were. Kind and patient with my worried foster dog. I want to recommend them to EVERYONE!
Dr. Obernesser is the kindest and friendliest vet I have ever seen. She even took into consideration my dog's level of stress when deciding whether to admit her or send her home. We ended up going home, and she called twice to check up on my dog. This isn't the closest vet to where I live, but I think it will be where we go regularly.
Just wanted to warn you all to stay far away from Uptown vets in Manhattan. They are incredibly disorganized and unprofessional. I called to make an appointment for two dogs with five days notice and sent them the records. I gave them the Foster family's phone number, as requested, so that they could confirm the appointment in case they couldn't reach me. The day before the appointment, they called me right before they closed so that I could not call them back even a minute later. The reason is even worse. They told me that they are canceling the appointment because I needed to make it, provide authorization, and specify what services needs to be provided. Mind you, I am the one that made the appointment and told them at that time what exactly to do. In addition, since I made the appointment, they called me multiple times to confirm, which I did, and request records that were already sent to them. They have absolutely no organization there or regard for other people's time. My poor Foster took time out of her schedule to organize to bring these dogs in tomorrow. To call someone at 5:59 when you close at 6 p.m. and your answering service picks up is also ridiculous. I left a voicemail and email them but then received an email 30 minutes later ignoring my previous messages. Save yourself a lot of stress and stay far away
My Max cat was not feeling well in the Spring and I brought him here to see Dr. Ina. She ran blood tests which showed high levels of white blood counts and knew he needed a consul with a Specialist. I booked an appt with a well known Specialist that visits her office the following week and they did an ultrasound and X-rays. They then prescribed specific meds (antibiotics) and then one daily med for the rest of Max's life. I am happy to report that Max is doing well. Even though this Vet comes across a bit "short tempered" (she is human), I think that she is smart and knows whats she's doing as there are many Vets out there that do not.
Dr. Ina Obernesser and staff have serviced my dogs for almost an entire decade. I am confident in their service. I have gone to other vets when out of area and have not received the quality of service offered at Uptown Vets. When I put my dog down they were thorough, compassionate and understanding through the entire process! Giving me time alone with my beloved dog and allow me to grieve undisturbed. Chloe likes them and is never traumatized after being treated. They will follow up with a call checking her for post treatment reactions. With Uptown Vets Chloe and I are good! Bravo Dr. Obernesser, bravo!
My wife & I were very pleased with the care both our cat Rocco & the genuine concern and communications that was provided to us. Although things did not work out we are sure that the staff at Uptown Vet's tried mightily and we will be taking our next kitten to them for all of it's shots, exams & other pet needs. Sincerely, R. Gilliam
Excellent care, professional, friendly & helpfull personnel. Would highly recommend!
I had been going to this Vet for two years now. Dr Sullivan and Dr Obermisser seem very nice. And they are for the most part. They seem to genuinely like animals however they like to add tests and tests and tests that you don't really need and visit ends up being 500 for something really simple. Beware of the wolf in sheep's clothing. So my bad experience: . 2 misdiagnosis. $2000 in fees for the misdiagnosis. And ultimately the dog had to be put to sleep. My dog wouldn't eat and had mouth pain. He lost 13 lbs in a month. They told me that the dog needed a dental cleaning and some extractions. This would solve the pain The cost was about $1200. They offered to take off a fatty deposit for an extra 250 bucks I said yes They anesthitized the dog, cleaned his teeth, but decided that all of the teeth were bad and they decided not to pull any. The fatty deposit was removed with no problem. So I paid over 1000 bucks for a recommended tooth extraction that never happenned. The problem was not solved so back I go. They now say that my dog has a salivary gland infection. So they gave me antibiotics. A week goes by and that did nothing. When both diagnosis were wrong, I was upset because they did not solve the problem. my dog was in pain and wtih tests dental etc I was out 2000 bucks. I lost my temper with them because i was out 2000 bucks and the dog was still in pain and getting worse not better. I finally went to the emergency. specialist vet. They did some tests. My dog had cancer of the lymph nodes. And in a month lost 13 lbs and had to be put to sleep. I've had my dog over 13 years and of course i was devastated. I asked Uptown Vets to put him to sleep. They wanted over $400 for this. I said can you please match the price for a little more than the ASPCA which was 175? I even offered $225. I had to go the ASPCA They sent me a heartfelt condolesence card BUT 2 months go by: I called them to answer a question about a pet I was thinking of adopting from the animal shelter and James (who I never met) told me that they wanted me to use another vet because I lost my temper in their office Between misdiagnosing, overcharging and just plain disgusting behavior, I would go elsewhere. And even one of their techs told me they like to charge for things that the dog doesn't really need. They are a business first and a doctor second,.
There is no other place I would take my service dog in training. Service dogs cost, on average, around $20,000 to train before they are ready to go to a client. A dog that cost that much money we cannot take a gamble on sub-standard care. Uptown vets always goes above and beyond for the dogs I have brought there. They always follow up after appointments to check in on them and take great care in not only treating illnesses when they come up but also preventing so many more. Their regime of care and vaccinations keep you on top of what is needed and their online pet records portal, in concert with reminder emails, always helps you make sure that your pet is up to date on everything. If you are looking for a place to bring your pet, look no further. You become part of a great family, where they truly do care about your pet. At Uptown Vets you have a great partner in helping get as many years with your pet as possible and together, you can rest assured, you will. A+
They are the best. The doctors are caring and deliberate in their approach to the care they delivery to my pets. I've recommended Uptown Veterinary Associates to many people and will continue to do so.
Dr. Sarah Sullivan is a terrible communicator, makes sweeping assumptions, and is condescending! During a visit she told me "no excuses, he needs more exercise, if not, then he needs a new home.” As a result of her comment, I am compelled to address this statement which I believe is deeply rooted in her inability to effectively communicate with her clients. Communication is a two-way street. As a devoted and proud owner of my dog, I dedicated a lot of my efforts towards: researching the breed of dog that I have, the characteristics and traits associated with Labrador Retrievers, and the particular breeder that I selected to buy my dog from. When someone such as Dr. Sarah Sullivan makes a grossly inaccurate statement and fails to ask about the history of my relationship with my dog, then I have no choice but to respond to clear the air. For her edification, I will inform her that I began the socialization process with my dog when he was 3 months old in conjunction with the socialization that he received at Barnes’ Puppy Love Kennel. My dog was a frequent visitor at both Westside Puppies and Doggedly Devoted. On countless occasions, I have taken my dog to daycare at Doggedly Devoted and PetSmart. Dr. Sarah Sullivan, if you hope to deliver a message to your clients, you should be more tactful in your approach and disposition. Instead of being judgmental, you should have asked me why my dog has not received enough exercise as of late, instead of assuming that this is a common occurrence. When someone works 12 hour shifts, it is unreasonable to ask that dog owner to give his dog 2 hours of exercise outdoors every day. In the future, I would advise you to dig a little deeper instead of being so accusatory. Instead of being judgmental you should have asked me why he isn’t receiving enough exercise. Good communication between a veterinarian and client are essential and after the encounter this clearly is not the case. I am still very displeased concerning your condescending tone. You were so fixated on the idea that he needs more exercise that you failed to investigate as to why my dog may not be receiving two hours of exercise (which was only a recent phenomenon over the course of three weeks). In closing, please be guided by this in your future interaction with other clients. It is never a positive thing when someone makes assumptions, appoints themselves as a prognosticator, shows an inability to communicate, and fails to truly understand the relationship between a dog owner and his pet (such as the case here).
Best experience I have ever had with a vet. They were super-attentive to Chico, and I sat by while they worked quickly and very kindly with my dog.
Uptown Vets is a caring practice. Every vet tech and doctor I have met there has been helpful, knowledgable, and compassionate. I particularly appreciate that they have strong systems in place so I never feel like it's chaotic or rushed when I come in, even for a last minute appointment or an emergency. I feel that my dogs and cat get everyone's full attention every time.
I love Uptown Vet! Moved to the city over a year ago and knowing that my cat is taken care of is a huge weight off my mind in this crazy city. I never have to wait long and the staff is SO nice and they love Mustard even when he's being dramatic and feels hissy.
BEST VET IN THA' HOOD! I can't say enough about Dr. Obernesser, Dr. Sullivan, and the entire staff at Uptown Vets. Short version: THEY ARE AMAZING. CARING. THOUGHTFUL. SINCERE & REASONABLE. Long version: The other day my dog wasn't acting right after a 6 mile schlep thru Central Park. I watched him for awhile at home, took some videos of him just in case i needed to show what was wrong & had a really bad feeling. My dog is also 60lbs & i live on the 5th floor of a 5 floor walk-up. basically i wanted to walk him over to the vet before i felt like god-forbid he'd collapse cause there's no way i'm carrying him. Long story short we get there & I just ask to sit in the waiting room for awhile because I feel safer there in the event that anything should happen. Without hesitation, Dr. Obernesser comes over, asks what's wrong, and immediately checks on my dog. Feels him up, looks in his mouth & reassures me that I can go home and in the event that his condition stays the same come back before they close...i left feeling better that at least i didn't kill my dog....instead of going back later that afternoon called up & made an appointment for a thorough exam just to really know what was going on. Tues we went to see Dr. Obernesser, Kircher got a full once over and was prescribed anti-inflammatory & one other Rx. i honestly thought it was going to cost me a fortune. like i'll be living on PBJ break what's left of bank kind of expensive BUT NO. Paid for the visit and Rx but more importantly the feeling of knowing that this is place where they CARE FIRST and take the treatment in phases and reasonable steps. This is truly a neighborhood vet where the staff cares about not only your pet but you too. I can't say enough great things about uptown vets. 5 years of taking care of the king of the couch aka my dog and I couldn't be happier. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.
For the last 8 years, Dr. Obernesser has given taken care of my pup. Throughout that time, the pup and I have grown to adore the folks at Uptown. However, it wasn't until a few months ago when Whitaker was diagnosed with cancer, that I came to understand their extraordinary capacity to not only offer amazing medical attention but also immense empathy. Medicine and empathy? 'Tis a rare combo, but they make it happen at Uptown. Love'm.
Awesome people/staff and doctors. It was . fast and loved the whole vibe!
This has been a great place to take my cats since moving to the city. It is close to my house, the doctors and techs are always very sweet and knowledgable, and I haven't had any trouble getting in same-day when needed. I am glad I found Uptown Vet Associates.
I am extremely pleased that I found this place. It is close to home and they offer Saturday hours for those of us who have a hectic weekday work schedule. Both the vet tech and veterinarian did a fabulous job treating my cat Riley. You can tell they truly care for animals.
this is the best vet i ever went to and i have been to a lot of them
Hands down the best practice I've ever been to, one of the best anythings I've been too. Dr. Obernesser is a truly compassionate and wonderful veterinarian - we moved our cat, who was in pretty rough shape after an ICU visit, to Uptown Vets so that we would have local care, and before I had spent at a dime there I had a good, long conversation with her about our cat's health - she had already been in touch with all of his ICU caretakers, had looked through his records, and had a great grasp of the situation. On top of that, our cat's quality of life seemed to be her sole concern - she urged me not to bring him in while he recovered from his ICU trip and pressed that their only concern was his comfort and quality of life, as should ours be. Eventually we brought our guy in, and they were very patient and forgiving even though he's maybe one of the most difficult cats anyone has had to deal with. When it became clear that he would be happier in the next world than the current one, we made an appointment and she said that, unfortunately, she wouldn't be working that day, but that the other vet would of course be there to take care of us very well. When the day came we were surprised to finally have the opportunity to meet her - she said she had come in to take care of "paperwork" and had decided to take care of our case since she was around anyway, since we had spoken on the phone so much. I have my suspicions that she really was there to take care of our cat, and the end of life care we received from her was so compassionate, so genuine, and made us feel that we made the right decision. I can't recommend this place enough. The staff is wonderful all around, the doctors are knowledgeable, and in terms of NYC it's not very expensive. They are also wonderful communicators, calling regularly to check in and making it clear that we should feel comfortable calling whenever we needed to. A special place full of special people, and I can't thank them enough. My only regret is that we haven't been going here all along.
Uptown Vets are the best vets that I have found in New York City. They are professional, helpful, kind, competent, very competitively priced and I would recommend them to everyone. My border collie, Alfie, is very well looked after. I should also like to add that they are the only vets I found in NYC who understood what was needed for my dog to travel back to the UK as an emotional support dog and charged a lot less than other vets, who didn’t seem to know what they were talking about, wanted to charge me.
They are lovely here, they make my two Pitts and I feel like family to them. They always know my two babies names, and when in the area my two dogs try to rush there to say hello.
Best vet for my fur babies!! Incredibly attentive care givers who are friendly, explain everything and truly love animals!!
They are incredible! These vets aim to honestly help your pet, not just do stupid tests and take your money as I have experienced with other vets in NYC
Fantastic staff.
Natty and I had a good experience at her appointment. She needed all of her immunizations updated and a general check up. The staff were great with her and she responded well. She didn't want to be there, but she did great. My bill seemed big until I looked at the line item list and everything seemed reasonable, we just had a lot done that day and it adds up quickly. I would recommend this practice and Natty and I will go again.
We love this place. Their expertise and compassion is unmatched! Trust us, we tried two other vets in the area and they were the worst because they weren't very kind to our dog. I can't imagine bringing our dog anywhere else!!
Moving Mr T to Uptown Vets was one of the best moves I have made! Dr. Obernesser and the entire staff have been loving, smart, focused, and professional throughout the visits and calls I have had since coming. I feel calm and confident as the owner of an awesome but chronically ill Mr T. Uptown Vets is the BEST!!
Dr ina obernesser is extremely difficult and judgmental person . I would never recommend this place!!!I had to tell her opinions are her own and should not be forced on others. If I could give negative stars I would. Anyone who loves there dog would have a extremely hard time not losing their composure. Worst place ever !!!!! All the prescription medicine is Ridiculously overpriced. I paid 35.50 for 15.49 dermallay oatmeal shampoo, 53.25 for 21.99 motazol suspension, and 25.00 for 15.00 aurocin ear cleaner .
I found this Veterinary Office through google and Yelp. They surpassed my expectations from a service and facilities perspective. I can confidently say I am looking forward to taking my dog back here annually. I highly recommend this location!
I highly recommend Uptown Veterinary for every pet out there. Dr Obernesser and her staff are the best. My cat Tom really enjoys going and he is always on his best behavior. They treat your pet like it was their very own pet with tender love and care.
They genuinely care about our pets as much as we do. They aren't the cheapest but are well worth the cost.
Everyone here is kind, friendly, and competent. My dog loves going there. We have only (luckily) had to use them for routine visits (shots, etc.) but all has been punctual and comfortable. The office is clean and pleasant. It's very convenient to my home. Thanks, Uptown Veterinary Associates!
Very friendly, attentive, obviously care about how my cats feel (both during and outside of the visit), follow up to see how things are going. The technicians and vets are very friendly, never make me feel rushed. I've been going for almost a year with my two cats, and they seem to hold a high level of animal health, with good ideas to work with our lifestyle.
I've always had an excellent experience with Uptown Vets... they take great care of Blue, our cat. The facility is clean... the doctors and nurses are incredibly caring, kind, and knowledgeable, and they have good availability with appointments. They have even taken me on short notice when I had an emergency. You can tell that everyone there is a pet lover and it shows in their work!
The lovely people at Uptown Vets took care of my precious baby girl like she was their own. They were so kind, and called me to check up on her every day after the appointment. Ina especially was super helpful and even called me after hours when I was worried about my kitty. I'm so glad that I found them & that they are close to my house!
We've taken our three cats to Uptown Vets for the last two years and we couldn't be happier with the care they've received. All the techs are capable and caring, and you really get the sense that everyone there treats your pets like they're part of their own family. The entire team at Uptown Vets is stellar. Drs. Obernesser and Sullivan are deeply compassionate and always strive to do what's best for your pets. They are easy to talk to and spend the time with you that you need to understand all your options and details of any treatment. They are understanding and pragmatic in balancing the pros and cons when dealing with difficult care decisions, and have helped us through a series of care decisions with our beloved older cat. We're very grateful to the entire team for the care they've provided to her and to our younger two cats as well. I recommend the practice to any pet owners in the area (or even a little farther away - we travel down from Washington Heights and it's well worth the trip!).
The vets here are so lovely and so is all of the staff. They really tried to make my wiggly anxious dog feel more at ease and even when he wasn’t calming down and we had to give him shots they were great and helped me distract him so the vet could be quick about it. I really love this office and how much they care for me pets
Friendly staff, knowledgeable vets, and an overall great practice. Even the office is very nice. They even have cute little animals running around the place that live there.
They let my baby die because of financial gain.
Great experience. Very friendly and lots of treats for Mel!
Don’t ever call em’ ,they make you hold the phone for 10 minute for every question, Lol
Very friendly, courteous and attentive veterinarian clinic. The doctors genuinely care about your pet and give them the attention that you would expect. The clinic atmosphere is well kept, clean and though out. I would highly recommend this veterinarian clinic to anyone.
While the care seems okay the total lack of availability for appointments and a total lack of flexibility forces a lower rating. This is definitely a sign of another nyc veterinary office that over charges and under delivers because their popularity has made them exclusive to everyday clients. I’m a 10+ year client here and am forced to seek a new vet. When I called to request records the front desk team just doesn’t care, it seems it’s only volume and profit now, not care.
Ina and Alison are amazing caring and deeply knowledgeable for well visits and critical care. Our Oriental Sugar became seriously ill out of the blue when she was 8. Ina kept her for almost a week and never gave up on her. We were allowed to sit with her even past when they were going to close for the evening. Her care and diagnostics helped her pull through and she is a happy senior cat. She helps us now with our boy cat to come up with best practice for his asthma and is now doing much better on the meds. In terms of pricing they are significantly cheaper than AMC and other vets we used before (except for dental- ASPCA is still the best value). We love them and are so happy they are in our neighborhood.
Our cats love it here! Both times we’ve walked in with no wait and have been taken to our own private room! The assistant puts out treats and a toy and catnip while we wait for the vet. We never feel rushed and the vets are so caring!
Uptown Vet is wonderful! We know taking our dog there will always result in the best care for her. It is clear that the doctors all love what they do and are extremely friendly AND knowledgeable. From a simple check up, to shots, to helping when Cooper ate a big chunk of fabric they are always there to go the extra mile to ensure the best health for our dog. The atmosphere in the vet is great as well- clean and well kept from the moment you walk in. I would highly recommend this vet to anyone around! Thank you!
Everyone is so kind and supportive. I feel very at ease bringing my puppy here.
The best - amazingly caring about my pets, and they're on their game!
Great Services for Dogs and Cats ❤️❤️
The staff is friendly, the wait time was minimal, services provided were very good and the veterinarian was excellent. Can’t get better than that!
Always take good care of my cats s little on the pricey side but friendly staff and very clean facility
I took my 11 week old puppy to the vet for the first time since getting her- and went to Uptown on the recommendation of several friends with pets in the neighborhood. I was so pleased with how easy and enjoyable the visit was for my pup and me! Couldn't have asked for better.
Dr. Obernesser is the BEST! I think she loves my dog as much as I do! Always great service. Fair prices.. and they are never pushing costly services on you like most other Vet offices!
Our dog has been going here for a little more than two years. They are nice. They care. I don't have a negative thing to say.
Been going to uptown vets for 4 years since I've moved to Harlem. Dr O cares so much about the animals and never rushes. On the initial visit she pointed out some tooth decay in one of the cats that no one bothered to check for before. When we found a kitten in the park we used a clinic to do check up and fix. She noticed worms on him immediately and ended up finding multiple types of intestinal parasites the clinic never mentioned. If you are looking for very cheap basic care this is not the place. If you are willing to invest a little more for a location that will always recommend what's in the pets best interest, this is the best vet I've ever been to.
Expensive, but the service is always excellent
Very pleasant experience. Front staff is helpful over the phone and when taking you in the room. Very nice atmosphere. No surprise bills. They took very good care of my puppy, this will be his vet home
The staff was great on the phone. He asked me what was exactly wrong with him and called back for medical records. My dog was sick when I brought him in. The doctor was amazing, not only did she check what was wrong but she also checked his ears and actually helped and take matted hair from his ears that was causing an ear infection. And gaved medicine for his ear as well and cleaned it for him there. I was so impressed with there job. I have brought my dog to Banfield hospital and addressed the ear problem but all they said to me was that through time hair and ear colors change. Like common now if your a vet how can you not tell he has an ear infection. Definitely was not satisfied with there work there. My dog isn’t sick anymore and no longer as a ear infection thanks to them.
I have brought Dr. Obernesser cats with a wide variety of conditions, some of which were complicated, challenging, and even heartbreaking. In every instance she and her staff have treated the animal with respect, skill, and compassion. She routinely goes above and beyond my expectations. Not every problem can be fixed, and we all have budget and other limitations and I have found that Dr. O always listens to my parameters and concerns and helps me maximize what can be done within my means. Another thing that sets the practice apart is that the vets are constantly learning about new procedures and products. Some vets can be arrogant, unfeeling, and dismissive. You will never find this attitude at Uptown. Highly recommended.
We're so thrilled we brought our cats to Uptown vets. Drs. Obernesser and Wardell and their technicians were all lovely and made the vet a pleasant—dare I say, fun?—experience for our cats (and, pet parents!). I'd really recommend them - professional, efficient service; clean, calming atmosphere; and warm, caring people.
One of the best veterinary and always showing love and caring how your pets going the next day.
I have lived around the country with a large number of animals and children; Uptown Veterinary Associates is by far my favorite veterinary office - ever! I actually look forward to seeing Dr. Sullivan and her team - she is always patient and kind. Just recently, we discovered my cat has significant heart disease; Dr. Sullivan has been both empathetic and thorough in helping my family understand the likely progression of this disease. The office is clean, friendly and they actively work in the community to take in abandoned pets and find homes for them. I like Uptown Vets so much that even though I now live in Brooklyn, I still take my kitties and Yorkie on the subway to see them!!
I love Uptown Vets. I used to take my cats to their old vet in queens because I have had really bad experiences picking random vets and I trusted no one. But they were there for me in an emergency and I have taken all my babies here for the last three years. Dr. Obernesser and Sullivan are so involved and they always give a lot of their time to listen and talk about the animals. Dr. Obernesser is the Dr I have seen the most and she is especially is a big mush with my animals which I really appreciate and they both are top notch vets. The staff is very friendly and they always call to follow up.
Outstanding vet. They were so caring when my dog had digestive issues, the vet and all her support staff was unbelievably compassionate and called to check on how our dog was doing multiple times which she was recovering at home. I will come back again and again.
Finding a good vet is akin to finding a pediatrician for your kids and we were so lucky to find Uptown Vets when we moved to Harlem six years ago. Dr O and her team are super friendly and knowledgeable, always gentle and caring with our dog, and really take the time to make sure our fur baby is healthy from nose to tail. When we had the sad experience of saying goodbye to one of our two dogs a few years ago, Uptown Vets was so compassionate and helpful during the whole process, and showed particular concern for the mental health of our younger dog when she came in for a check-up. Three things really standout about Uptown vets: 1) Dr O remembers everything about our dog and our family. 2) They offer Saturday appointments. 3) A technician or Dr O always follows up by phone the next business day after an appointment to see how our dog is doing. I can't recommend Uptown Vets enough - a great resource to have in Harlem!
Dr. Obernesser is an extremely kind, smart, gentle, and caring vet. She really thinks outside of the box and goes way above and beyond any other vet I've been to. I really trust her and unlike some other vets, there is no running a million tests that aren't needed. Her bedside manner is excellent but more than that she TRULY cares for each of my animals like her own. They have great follow-up and are always there for me. My very cantankerous cat was sick and recently passed away and the whole team was amazing during the process despite the fact that my cat could be a very, very difficult kid. I am so glad to have found them!
Amazing care and attention to detail, both to the animal and to the owner. They truly take their time to explain the diagnosis and provide love to your pet. I would highly recommend entrusting your "child" with them.
Do not come here if you want your pet to be happy. My pet is traumatized because of her experience here. STAY AWAY
I've been trusting the great staff at Uptown with my cats, Boo and Ella, since they were little kittens. Always excellent service.
Very professional, clean and friendly vets office. Much better than other veterinary offices I have been to in Manhattan.
We have had an absolutely wonderful experience at Uptown Vets. Our first visit was easy, fast, and very comprehensive. Our cat was diagnosed with an overactive thyroid within a day of our visit, and we easily received the medication she needed the next day. Dr. Obernesser went above and beyond to make sure our cat was doing okay during her initial treatment. And, they are very sensitive to cost and are up front about treatment options. I couldn't recommend this vet more highly!
I am very happy with Uptown Vets and have been for 8 years now. Knowledgeable docs and techs who lead with common sense, kindness and compassion. They truly love animals and are pretty great with people, too!
Very clean, and welcome
Literally the most unprofessional vet I have ever experienced. Extremely rude and very difficult to talk to or ask questions about my dog. Would not recommend anyone to visit Dr. Obernneser unless you want to see emotional doctors crying in her office and meeting her clients with streaky mascara. Overpriced even though it's in midtown, the place is clean but the atmosphere I experienced is not a place for a happy dog or a happy customer.
I love Dr. Obernesser, she takes her time and makes sure my cat's are ok. She is reluctant to prescribe medication which I really appreciate. She just medicates when it is really necessary. She answers all my questions and helps me take good care of my cat's.
This is a deeply caring and wonderfully staffed office. I can't say enough about how they helped me weather the aging and death of my beloved dog. Now they are working with on my new dog. You simply can't find a better vet and staff in NYC.
warning: DO NOT USE THIS VET! went in to get dogs teeth cleaned and was quoted for up to 5 teeth being removed. I come back and they pulled 23 teeth without even calling beforehand. I even filled out a form saying to call if any additional work were to be done. Extremely unprofessional, do not recommend, my pet is traumatized.
The staff there is very caring, knowledgeable and reassuring
Uptown Veterinary has taken care of our Rat Terrier Dante for over 8 years. The dedication of staff and their professional conduct speaks volumes. They treat the clients (pets) as if they are there own. When you walk in , you are greeted with a smile and they always seem to know the name of the pet walking . Dante is greeted with a hello and a nice little stroke. Dr. Obernesser is the best. She sits in the waiting area with you and all while having a perfectly easy chat is giving your pet a little "pre exam" and if she notices something it is discussed right there and then. Once all procedures all completed you get a complete explanation and plan of action. We would highly recommend Uptown Veterinary . As a matter of fact, we do when walking through Central Park and other pet owners ask where we take Dante. Believe it or not , Dante seems to look up when we mention the name and it is a look of "happiness". Great place!
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. They only charge for what is needed, and never try to sell you unecessary procedures
The only place in NYC I would trust to take care of my pets.
Dr. Obernesser and staff are always friendly and concerned. My favorite vets in the city!
I was entirely satisfied with my experience. Everyone was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. Thank You!
Very clean, very professional. The vets and staff here did a great job of making our goldendoodle puppy feel comfortable and safe. Would highly recommend to anyone living around the area!
After trying out other vets in brick and mortar spaces, I didn’t see the care and compassion that I needed or felt that my dogs deserved so I found a home visiting vet that came to our apartment for appointments. As you can imagine, a concierge vet has limited services when it comes to surgeries and specific procedures.... My teeny tiny senior chihuahua needed a pretty immediate surgery, so I had no choice but to try a brick&mortar vet that offered these services. We were so nervous. We thought of Uptown Vets immediately as we’d heard great things about them from neighborhood pet owners. We’d been told numerous times by our past brick&mortar vets that our little guy wasn’t well enough to handle the anesthesia (hence the extended wait in removing his old man teeth) but now it was necessary. He was infected and abcessed. The vets and team here knew immediately what to do and they got it right. Our little senior guy is a new man. I recommend them highly. I really appreciated the picture text and update as soon as he came out of sedation, it was so appreciated and helpful in calming my nerves. I read a review of a man criticizing our vet at Uptown Vets for being emotional. Seriously, what??? I’m not sure about you, but I want a vet that is emotionally invested in my animals. I’ve quit vets in the past for lacking emotion where my pets’ care was at stake.
Th vets treat my dog Bangle with such love. We really appreciate their attentive and detailed service. They always keep me informed on things and are very polite!
Best Vets in Uptown. I have three dogs and have tried several other local Vets but stick with UpTown Vets because they are are professional, kind sensitive and explain everything. The Vets in the area that I went to before finding UpTown Vets were competent but something was missing With these other Vets I had to keep all teh records and make sure I was on top of my Dogs' health. Uptown Vets makes it easy for me and reminds me when vaccines are due etc. Highly recommended
We have been with Uptown Vets since we rescued our 11 year old dog Trevor at just 7 months of age. They took care of our boy through check-ups, skin allergies, ear infections, skin infections, and most of all, 3 knee surgeries and 2 skin mass removals. All throughout, we could always count on him being in good hands. Trevor is able to live a healthy and fulfilled life because of Dr. Ina Obernesser and her fabulous medical team. Whether it’s lookong into an allergy med or contemplating a knee surgery, we knew that nothing would be administered unless absolutely necessary and it felt good to have total confidence in our vet. What really says it all is how overjoyed Trevor still gets when it’s time for a Vet visit!! I think it’s accurate to say that Trevor isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed- lol! I kid you not, this dog actually gets overjoyed when it’s time for a check up :-). But all joking aside, it goes to show how the love and care this team provides goes a long way. And I only hope that I helped some of you with choosing this team.
Uptown Vet is amazing. I would recommend them to anyone. I am a first-time puppy owner and have had many concerns about my dog. When I call, the vet or vet techs always pick up and answer my questions. One time, I apologized, saying "Sorry I call so much -- I'm just worried and want my puppy to be healthy!". Dr. Obenesser's response was, "That's why we're here. We don't want you to worry. Instead of worrying, pick up the phone and talk to us." Our puppy had 3 parasites and Dr. O caught them quickly and treated them -- they were gone within 2 weeks. Amazing service, and they truly care about the animals just as much as we do!
Just a wonderful, skilled, professional, compassionate practice. We have been going there for years with our own pets (6 dogs and 2 cats over the years) as well as using their services for our dog training facility. Always incredibly happy with their work and advice.
Took my puppy for the first time for a routine physical the place is really nice and employee make you feel welcome
Uptown Vets has been our vet for almost a decade. They are the best I've ever encountered and even my cat who doesn't like to leave the house, does fine there. The entire operation is extremely caring and knowledgeable. They way they do things is very intuitive because your pet and their well-being always comes first. I can't recommend them enough.
These are the best vets I have ever had, and I would never think of taking my dogs anywhere else in NYC, even though I have since moved to Brooklyn. It is very clear that they are first and foremost concerned with the health and well-being of my pets. One of my dogs has had two major surgeries at Uptown Vets, and not only were they successful, but the vets and their staff helped put me at ease and clearly explained what was going on. Dr. Obernesser and Dr. Sullivan are not only fantastic at taking of my dogs but also great at the more difficult task of taking care of my nerves and concerns! Their staff always follows up with a phone call the next day to see how they're doing. Five stars are not enough!
Service was pleasant throughout, and my dog was well taken care of as always, but those bills for vaccines and preventative meds are painful!
WARNING: I hold Uptown Veterinary Associate responsible for my pet's suffering until the day she passed. Doctor Obernesser can be lovely and charming as long as you don't question her or get a second opinion. My pet went through tremendous suffering due to the nonchalant care from Doctor Obernesser, she could not even take a minute to call me back in person but would instead communicate through her receptionist. The week before my pet passed I urgently needed to speak with a doctor, I was told Doctor Obernesser had left for the day but Doctor Sullivan would call me back. This call never came. Instead I was lucky to find Doctor Kiani at Harlem Animal Hospital but still, it was too late for my beloved pet. Doctor Kiani did absolutely EVERYTHING possible to save my pets life but unfortunately her illness had gone too far. If Doctor Obernesser would have taken a few minutes to actually LISTEN to what was going on with my pet she might have been saved, instead she kept prescribing overpriced medications which just worsened her condition. My heart is shattered after loosing my baby and I would not want anyone to go through what I went through with Uptown Pets.
Amazing (knowledgeable, caring) doctors, friendly staff, organized practice, super clean. Convenient pet portal with reminders, access to records, etc.
Uptown Veterinary Associates is amazing! Dr. O is the absolute best! Uptown is always there for all my cats whenever they are in need. They are responsive, kind, professional and excellent. I would trust any of my cats in the hands of Dr. O!
Uptown vets, and particularly Drs. Obernesser and Sullivan, are wonderful. We've been going there with both of our dogs for more than 6 years. They not only provide top medical attention for our dogs in a modern, clean and inviting environment, they also really care for the animals. They spend a great deal of time with us each visit and they always follow up with a call the next day to be sure the pups are doing okay. We have had some real medical "adventures" with our pups and I trust Uptown completely.
I've always found Dr. Obernesser and the staff to be friendly, punctual, thorough, and genuinely invested in the health of my pets. I've been with Dr. Obernesser for just over ten years, and she has gone out of her way for my pets so many times - from visiting my cat when he was in the hospital recovering from surgery to calling me personally to check up on an ailing cat or to give her condolences when they've passed. She's the best kind of vet: the one who puts the well-being of our pets first, but also has the empathy to help her human clients through difficult decisions. I wouldn't go anywhere else.
Our visits to Uptown Veterinary Associates have been consistently helpful and accommodating. Having a reliable veterinary practice that I trust in the neighborhood is great!
I have had several experiences with the Uptown Veterinary Associates. Dr. Obernesser was not only a most extraordinary Veterinarian to the kittens I brought in to Uptown Vets, she was also very understanding and patient with my anxieties about each kitten. For an animal lover like me, it is such a gift to have Dr. Obernesser as my Veterinarian, The Uptown Veterinary Associates as the place where my animals are cared for and a Staff that is so warm and helpful.
I have been going here since 2013 for my dog. Everyone at the vet is so nice and welcoming. They ask the right questions and provide great references and suggestions. Last year my dog was in a fight and I was able to easily make an appoint that day. They made sure she had the right shots and cleaned up the wound. As with every appointment, they called the next day to make sure she was doing good. I highly recommend this vet!
Great vet, lovely people :-) great to look after your fluffy friend!
A last minute call from me on the day before Memorial Day holiday weekend, got emergency care for Ebony who had an injured paw and needed to be neutered. Kudos to Uptown Vets and Dr. Obernesser! The only vet who is always there and will always be my vet. Thank you!
I’ve been going to Dr. Obernesser for many years. I love her vet practice because I am always made to feel special. She gets to know my cats and goes above and beyond to make them feel calm and keep them healthy. Recently one of my cats went into a diabetes crisis. I am sure had I taken her to anyone else, she would have died. Dr. Obernesser and her staff worked so hard to bring my cat back to me. She is home now and I have everyone at Uptown Vets to thank. The warmth and love showed to my cats is unwavering and inspiring. I strongly recommend this practice for everyone who has pets that they love.
I could not be more pleased! The customer service and veterinary care are both top notch, the costs are transparent and very reasonable for NYC, and the follow care impeccable!
We love the people, the facility is pristine and the care is exceptional.
Dr. Obernesser and her entire staff are the consumate professionals- not only do they know their stuff but they are kind, loving, patient and treat my pets as if they were their own. They neutered my five-year-old pug and made a heart-wrenching day go by easier with reassuring updates and lots of useful information to take home at the end of the successful surgery. They provided support when a new pet in our home became pregnant and followed up frequently on her as they do whenever a pet has come in for any condition. I'm a super nervous pet owner and they put up with my paranoia and constant questions as if I'm no bother. I would recommend them with all the assurance I could possibly provide a fellow animal lover.
The vet who saw my pet spoke to me in very harsh terms, telling me that I was basically "killing my dog" because I was feeding her twice a day. I love my dog very much, and that is not a constructive way to speak to a client. I felt that she was scolding me the whole time, and probably trying to scare me so I would pay the $700 she wanted to charge for blood tests and X-rays, which I didn't buy because I know they cost less elsewhere. I had a terrible experience.
Great place, but way over-priced....Especially as relates to dispensing medication. I found the dispensed medication to be 50% higher than the price of the same drug in a pharmacy. Motazol was $52. for 15g, VetRx has it for $26; Aurocin ear cleanser was $25. Amazon had it for $11 00. Is the Dr's dispensing fee that much?
