I’m taking the time to write a review because I’m so impressed by The Cat Practice’s boarding facilities. This morning I picked up my “baby” after four days at this place and he looks better than when I brought him in. He’s almost 15 years old, and when I’ve boarded and picked him up from other vets, he was nervous and upset and it took him almost a day to “recover.” But today he looked totally content and he’s his normal self now. (I think it’s because there were only cats there so he wasn’t distressed by the presence of dogs and all their barking.) Also I liked the fact that they kept detailed notes about him every day and that Dr. Dougherty took the time to check on my him before we left. I’m going to use this vet from now on and I’m so relieved that I found a good place for boarding.

Dr Dougherty is a wonderful and caring doctor. He has literally saved my senior cat Merlin's life. Merlin's sister Sin-Amun is being treated by Dr Dougherty with great care for thyroid disease. Dr. Dougherty and his staff are amazing - we took our new kittens in to be seen and they were all very nice and gentle to them. Before administering any medicine or treatment, Dr. Dougherty explained what he was going to do as well as how much it would cost (which is different from most other vets (and human hospitals) I've been to in the past where they give you the treatment and then hit you with an expensive bill at the end of your visit). You can tell he really loves cats. He also knows the area very well and gave us some great food recommendations to try later. We look forward to coming back again for our kitties' regular check-ups!

My cat is a wreck after spending a few days here. She hasn't eaten in 24 hours, her voice is raspy (I'm assuming from meowing relentlessly without anyone paying attention to her), hasn't used her litter box, and in general she seems incredibly anxious. My read on the place is they allow cats who are completely docile out of their cage, but any cats with energy that like to play or explore get cooped up. That's just an assumption based on my brief time in the place. If your cat is young or has energy, don't bring them here. Seriously, it'll mess them up.

I've seen going exclusively to The Cat Practice for non-emergency care for 40 years. Friendly atmosphere, Dr. Dougherty knows his stuff, and my kitties love that there are nothing but cats being treated or living there.

Dr Dougherty and team is very nice with you once you come and willing to spend the money.However,they show their real attitude once the things does not go well.We spent 650 usd there and the symptoms only got worse. My cat was vominting but did not have anydiarrhea,however,after the treatment (Cerenia ONLY for DOGS) he gave him (9 h later) the diarrehea started immediately.He told that the drug absolutely cannot cause it,however,that is one of side affect in the instruction.He refused to change the drug or give smt to stop diarrea.He did an Xray for 250 usd and could not identify the small round object whether was fur or any object...useless and disappointing.He insisted it was a foreign object inside (although he could not see it) but the other doctor just change the drug and the cat got better...

After a number of bad experiences around town, Dr. Dougherty shined through as one of the best Vets I’ve ever experienced. Extremely professional and one of the most compassionate people I’ve ever interacted with. When my cat was sick he helped me get the answers and advice I needed in a timely and sensitive manner. Dr. Dougherty helped us navigate the last 1 1/2 years of one of my girls with renal failure and helped us ease our ancient 21 1/2 year old girl through her last days with dignity and compassion. He is always on the end of the line for anxious questions and works within what is reasonable and necessary for top care. As someone who has had many bad experiences with vets taking advantage of your love for an animal, trying to overcharge and perform useless tests, this practice was a breath of fresh air. They treated my cats like their own. It was a great experience, if I ever need a vet again or someone asks me to reccomend a vet this is where I will send them.

My wife and I went in at about 6 PM today (Thursday) and I found the staff to still be very energetic, very friendly and very helpful. The place has an at-home atmosphere without compromising the feeling of professional and quality service. Dr. Eric Dougherty did an excellent job in taking care of our cat. He was very friendly, engaging, and inspired confidence. On top of all the great care my cat received, the bill was incredibly reasonable. This was our first vet visit in NYC and I think we stumbled onto the best place possible. We'll definitely be going back for further veterinary needs.

We have a Siamese kitten and had been seeing a vet on the UES. We decided to start looking for a new vet as it was getting time to do the neutering procedure. As someone who lives uptown, I checked with MANY vets uptown and on the UWS. None were as immediately responsive and attentive to my initial request for information as this office. I received a response from the doctor within a couple of hours. I decided to do an unannounced visit to see how the office ran when they weren't expecting a potential owner to stop. I was so impressed from the moment I walked in the office: it smelled great, looked immaculately clean, was immediately greeted by staff, and was even approached by the doctor as he was ending an appointment. The doctor and staff took time to show us the office and walk through the upcoming procedure. I immediately scheduled the procedure for today. We arrived at the office this morning for the procedure and were greeted at the office by name. The doctor took us into the exam room and did a full exam and then talked us through the full procedure and what to expect. Again, the doctor laid out the expected costs (which were accurate) and provided assurances that we needed to hear when leaving our kitten in his care. The doctor provided an update after the procedure alerting us to the fact that everything went well and our kitten was recovering. When we picked him up from the office, the doctor again went over everything and made us comfortable getting ready to take him home. Cat owners know that there's a certain energy that comes from cats. These aren't the unruly creatures called dogs. The facilities don't look like a traditional clinic/hospital. There's two windows into the exam room and you won't find the expected stainless steel anywhere. The exam room feels like a room in your home (as does the entire office). My partner accompanied me to the appointment today and he said "this is a cat oasis" I cannot recommend this doctor and practice enough based on our experience. This is obviously a doctor and staff that cares greatly about these patients in their care and the passion they have for their work is clear. If you have any vet needs, you need to call them right meow. That corny joke aside, they were really great and from the moment you start talking to the doctor and staff, you'll know these are professionals committed to the health of your cat.
