One of the best strokes of luck I had more than 20 years ago was to have found Dr. Peter Kross and Rivergate Veterinary! My cat is not the easiest patient but Dr. Kross, with his superb skill and compassion, is able to handle her without difficulty and/or discomfort. With the knowledge he imparts and the time he takes to explain one’s pet’s situation to us lay people, it is like having a master class in cat care. Dr. Kaminski is also a gem — both thorough and nurturing. In fact, the entire practice from technicians to front office staff (many of whom have been there for years) are wonderful. In fact, I can’t imagine that there is a better veterinary practice in all of a Manhattan.

Manhattan's beloved, "BIDEAWEE" on E. 38th st. closed clinic/hospital. (Only ADOPTIONS now.) Although we will miss their Vets, we finally took our 3 older pets to the nearby (around the corner from Bideawee) "RIVERGATE VET CLINIC" on E. 37th st., that Bideawee highly recommended and transferred our fur-babies' Medical documents to. After procrastinating and checking-out a new Vet hospital across the street from our building, we instead - chose RIVERGATE. Dr. FRANCES KAMINSKI DVM. was assigned to us. The entire place was clean, and everyone was courteous, and we didn't feel rushed. Dr.Frances and her lovely tech helped us so much with OUR anxiety - as our fur-babies will be experiencing a big change - as we are going Full Time RV'ing, soon. Amazing doctor - blessed experience at RIVERGATE. Not once did they try to push "extra" exams; as a matter of fact - I had to request some expensive "Blood-Work" for all 3 - as it has been many years. Affordable, no nickel/ dime-ing - as does the famous and really excellent: "Blue Pearl" hospital on West Side does. I would even choose RIVERGATE over BP for surgery. B/C they are THAT open/honest and experienced.

Rivergate Veterinary Clinic is the best! Peter Kross, Frances Kaminski, and the entire staff have taken loving care of our beloved Oliver for over a decade. I first went to Dr. Kross when I got Oliver as an 11-week-old pup. Oliver was my first dog, and I knew very little about how to raise and care for him. Dr. Kross gave me so many valuable tips, for example, how to care for Oliver's teeth, make better food choices, provide enough exercise, and ward off potential health problems (Lyme's, Lepsis, stomach issues). I'm grateful to Rivergate for teaching me how to raise a healthy, happy, dog. We'd never take Oliver anywhere else.

Worst experience ever. This place seems to be out to make a quick buck. If the vet was honest about the high upfront cost, I probably would have a better impression of this clinic. I don't mind paying the necessary fees to get my dog better, it comes with owning a pet, but what I hate are medical professionals that seem like they're more interested in your money than the well-being of your child/pet. Second thing I hated is that I had to ask if the tests she was about to run that would cost over $400 would give me certainty of what my pet had, which she replied it wouldn't...THEN WHY THE HECK WOULD I PAY THIS ABSURD AMOUNT?! JUST FOR A "MAYBE HE HAS THIS"? Inane... Third, I asked if there was a plan that my pet could enroll in so that he could stay healthy by coming in for regular visits and it wouldn't cost a ridiculous amount. Of course they didn't, why would they since it would lower the amount of money they could make? Fourth, terrible front desk service. And finally, the treatment that I went with, which was essentially a trial and error method, was completely pointless. I've had him for 3 years and we used to go to another pet hospital near me and I've seen this illness before, it's pretty common from what I hear. This vet didn't have the experience or knowledge to give me any insight to what it was and how it could be treated (other than pump some anti-vomiting liquids into his skin, which I've never seen done before). So after all this trouble, close to $400 spent (I would hate to imagine how expensive it would be if I opted for the treatment she suggested), absolutely no useful or substantial information gained from the visit, my pet is still sick and is exhibiting similar symptoms. Again, I don't have a problem with the amount of money I'm spending, I can afford it. But to have all these costs without being able to give any substantial information on the pet's illness and to give me the impression that it was kind of a guessing game? Forget about it.... I should also note that I did not have Dr. Cross look at my pet and that was probably my mistake.

Dr. Kross used to make house calls for my 2 cats, in the mid 80's.. When it was time to put the first one to sleep, I will never forget Dr Kross' kind words, and then he put my fur baby to sleep here at home and took her with him, to his office for a proper send off... When it came time for my second fur baby to go to kitty heaven, I took her to his office... He put her to sleep and let me stay in the room, alone with her, as long as i needed to... It took years before I would get another cat, and when I did, I couldn't find Dr Kross, again... So I took my new fur baby to another vet in the hood... It was the worst experience.. THE WORST!!!... THEN, A neighbor mentioned she was going to Dr Kross and "amen- hallelujah" he was still in the hood, and moved to a bigger office!!!.. I could tell that even my fur baby knew the difference and she LOVED LOVED LOVED Dr Kross.... I have a new baby now, 14 months old... Because it is near impossible to get an appt with Dr Kross (everybody wants him), I thought I'd try one of the other doctors... Dr Frances is just as wonderful... (i don't think Dr Kross would share his office with someone that wasn't)... My baby LOVES Dr Frances and melts in her arms.. My baby Loves going to the vet for his frequent pedicures (unusual for a cat, eh???).. He even sleeps on his carrier, waiting for the next visit to Rivergate Veterinary Clinic... This clinic deserves 10 stars...

I brought my dog for a dental cleaning with Dr Sue and it went really well. I was quite concerned about anesthesia as it was our first time doing the cleaning but Dr Sue has reassured me that it's safe after we've done all the necessary tests. She called me right after the procedure was over to say that it went well and that my doggie is recovering perfectly after the anesthesia which I appreciated a lot because I was really nervous. Also, I find the pricing reasonable for Manhattan.

Not only did they graciously work with us on timing (Bideawee closed JUST when her annual vaccines were needed - not good) but despite the avalanche of new clients, Rivergate staff was warm and caring. He is incredibly skillful and practical, and conservative in diagnosing and treating issues and doesn’t recommend unnecessary testing (important as vet care is not inexpensive). He is also just an all around nice person and takes time to get to know you. The office staff are all very caring and they try their best to get you in when it’s urgent. Excellent communication from doctors. Dr. Sue is kind and did a nice job with a well visit and a minor sick visit for my adopted 3yo cat. The receptionist was able to add us on same day for some urinary issues and let me pick up my cat right after work. The home treatment plan was very clearly explained over the phone and with written labels on everything. Thanks for making my cat feel better! Be warned -labwork is pricey! Everything else seemed reasonable.

I love this clinic!!!! All the staff including the doctors are wonderful. On both our visits we visited two different doctors and they were both good. They even cleaned my pup's ears and cut his nails while we went for a vaccination shot. For dog owners, they understand, this service would have cost us extra money outside. And they are very punctual with their appointments. If you go to the office earlier than your appointment, they might even see you earlier. I mean where do you get that kind of preference!!! The doctors are very patient in explaining everything to you. I would absolutely recommend this place! I am never taking my pup anywhere else. Keep at it Rivergate!

Always caring. Always careful. I thought Calvin did a fabulous job with giving a lion cut to my Persian, Beatrice. Even though her hair was terribly matted, he was somehow able to leave enough hair on her so she would not be cold. Today is one of the first days of winter cold weather, but something had to be done as she has a double coat, and the matts had grown quite large.

I am a very hands on pet parent. Dr. Peter #Kross at #Rivergate is the only primary care #veterinarian that my #dogs have ever seen. First, he is super compassionate and puts the pets' comfort and happiness first. One of my dogs growls and bites when scared. He calms her. Second, he is knowledgeable about most specialities but will not hesitate to loop in a specialist when needed or if the owner asks.. Third, he really cares about his patients. When one of my dogs was admitted to an ICU on a weekend last summer, he corresponded with me that weekend via email. Finally, the other vets in his practice are good. They are not him, but, if he is away I feel comfortable taking my little ones to them.

I had an amazing first experience with Dr Kross at Rivergate! My dog Twilight was coughing and so lethargic and I was very worried about him. Dr Kross spent a lot of time with us and was very kind and patient with Twilight who can be difficult. He diagnosed his illness as kennel cough and gave us medicine and in a week Twilight got better!! The staff at Rivergate are super nice and helpful. I am very glad to have found a great place to bring my animals when they get sick!
