He has been so helpful in guiding me on how to care for her and has been so patient & understanding with me when I make an emergency appt for what turns out to only be an anxious Mommy issue. I've been going to this vet for the last 6 months. Even though it's far from my house I go out of my way because the staff is unlike any other I've been to. In the last week my dog unfortunately ate poison and I was very close to losing him. I never thought I'd see him again. Things were not looking good and I was beyond myself. Everyone was very comforting and attentive to me in moment of despair. No false promises or claims just that they would do the best they could do. During the whole ordeal they were friendly and understanding gave me constant updates of how my dog was doing and I was able to rest knowing he was in the best hands he could be in. I was a nervous wreck considering my dog was in terrible shape and I'd have to leave him at the vet for a few days. They recognized how hard it was for me to leave him and in turn let me visit him the following day and kept me in the loop answered all my calls and never lost patience with me. A few days later my dog was given back to me recovered and almost back to his regular energetic self. Even if he hadn't been I would still write this review. The whole team genuinely cares for animals and their owners it shows and makes ALL the difference. I have and will continue to recommend this Dr Luis Sola and his amazing team to everyone that owns a pet.

Brought my cat here for the first time, I was more than impressed! The staff in the office were all so friendly. The check-in process and wait time were both quick. The decor of the office was very appealing. Dr. Sola was excellent, he was so friendly and great with my cat. The exam was thorough and he provided some great information and resources specifically for my cats needs. They recommended a diet food but didn’t push the sale as they do at most places. I felt the price was very reasonable for the visit. I will definitely recommend this vet clinic to friends. You will feel confident you took your pet to a knowledgeable and trustworthy veterinarian when you leave.

These people are money-hungry scam artists. DO NOT take your pet here. I brought my cat in because she was constipated. They said they wanted to make sure there wasn’t an underlying cause, which I understand, however instead of starting with just a blood test to see if they could determine the problem, they wanted me to immediately spend $1600 (and immediately sign a piece of paper saying I would) and leave her there for two nights. At every turn they were trying to squeeze more money out of me, after I already told them I was struggling financially. I saw no diplomas on the wall anywhere. The “doctor” did not even tell me his name. When I called in advance they refused to tell me the prices unless I paid $72 just to make an appointment. These people are absolutely clueless, careless, and incompetent. All they care about is money.

Please note that this should be treated as two separate reviews: a four star review for the doctor and vet staff, who were wonderful, and a two star review for the in-house groomer. First, let's start with the good. I made an appointment here after taking in a former roommate's dog from when I used to live in Maryland. I wanted to establish a relationship with a local vet, and HOH happened to be a short walk from my apartment. From the very start of my interactions with the desk staff, I was impressed with how polite and professional everyone was. They were able to accommodate my last minute request to reschedule the appointment, and when I did come in everyone was gentle and efficient while caring for my dog. The doctor was very diligent in his exam, even catching a very slight heart murmur that her previous vet missed. I look forward to coming here as long as I live in the city for all of my dog's care. The only thing keeping me from a glowing five star review of the vet services is the price, which is quite high. However, I'm not sure how fair it is to compare NYC and Maryland prices, as I'm sure the overhead is more expensive here, which would raise the price of care. Now, the bad. When I heard that there was grooming services available, I decided to try that too. The woman who came out to greet me seemed very nice and friendly, though it was a bit hard to understand her accent. As a first generation immigrant myself, I can understand that sometimes communication can be difficult in your second language. To make things easier, I decided to not only say what I wanted ( a "puppy cut", which for cavalier king charles spaniels translates to a shorter, more practical version of the traditional hairstyle) but also to show her a picture on my phone. Satisfied that I had made myself clear, I left the clinic. When I came to pick up my dog, I found that she had been sheared to one consistent length all over. When I mentioned that this was not what I had asked for, the groomer apologized and said something about needing to de-shed her. While I'm sure this all comes down to a misunderstanding, I can't help but feel somehow cheated when the most expensive grooming I have ever bought also turned out to be one of the worst. I am attaching the picture that I showed on my phone (from google images) along with a photo of the actual haircut I got. While the groomer seemed to be very good with my dog, and there wasn't any injury or malice in this mistake, I can't imagine myself trusting this establishment for grooming ever again.

We are very unhappy with Heart of Harlem. We boarded our dog with them for 3 days. Upon picking our dog up, we noticed a new medication with her other belongings. When we asked what the medication was, the employee said, "Oh, they didn't call you? Your dog got into a 'little tussle,' and we gave her antibiotics because her nose was swollen." Once we got home we realized the full extent of her injuries: multiple puncture wounds on her snout and jaw. We completely understand that dogs have the potential to get injured while boarding, but it is completely unacceptable that we weren't notified, especially considering they assured us they'd notify us if there were any issues. They also lost one of the belongings we brought when we dropped our dog off. We will not be boarding with Heart of Harlem in the future. This 2 star review is for their boarding services and handling of our dog's injury while in boarding.

My cat died. Not that this was their fault, but when a patient calls about an emergency with his or her pet, the least the vet can do is provide a call back. The front desk clearly does not receive training on handling distress calls. It's been two weeks and I still haven’t heard from them. I ignored possible red flags when I first started using them and now I see how that played out. Don't do the same. Poor customer service. Take your pet somewhere else.

I took my dog in because she had a hematoma in her ear and the only options they gave me were $1000 surgery, or $200 draining. So I chose the draining to try to avoid anesthesia. The hematoma filled back up on our walk home, and the next vet I took her to told me to just let the hematoma go and it would heal on its own. Heart of Harlem didn't mention this at all to me, they just wanted my money, not what is best for my dog. Never going back.

Great Veterinary Clinic! Dr. Sola has taken care of my dog for a few years now and never falls short of providing excellent service every time. My wife and I have two cats - one five y/o and one kitten - and Heart of Harlem has been amazing with both. Not only are the receptionists lovely and work with you to find a good time for appointments, but the facility is really beautifully set up and made both us and our cats feel right at home. So I have been here multiple times for different pets like guinea pigs and my dog. My past experiences were good, the vet even performed a surgery on my dog's gums at what I thought as a reasonable price. I went back this week for an ingrown nail my dog had on her paw. When we arrived they took the bandage off (that I had place) she was still bleeding and had huge clots. They took her to another room then came back with an estimate of almost $700 for antibiotics and other things. They told me her toe was falling off and necrotic. (the flesh was black and dying) They tried to send me home with antibiotics for this. They never suggested amputation, I had to ask about it. I quickly walked to ASPCA animal hospital crying hysterically thinking about my dog losing her toe or having to put her down. At the ASPCA they took of the bandage placed by HoHVC, trimmed the hair on the paw, actually cleaned the wound thoroughly, soaked it, and then treated it. My dog's paw was in fact NOT necrotic!! Her toe was swollen and had a small hole from the nail piercing through the skin, but she was ok. I don't know what happened to Heart of Harlem, they used to be an awesome place to take a pet. If they would have cleaned the wound properly and taken a better look obviously they would have seen it wasn't necrotic. I left so distressed and hopeless because of their "necrotic" diagnosis. I feel completely ripped off by them. The ASPCA was awesome and their prices are affordable. Never again will I go to HoHVC!! Sadly I have to search for a new vet.

I took my cat for a nail trim here, and I had a fabulous experience. The office is very clean and calming, and their front office staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I was worried about bringing my cat to a new vet because he freaks out at every appointment I take him to (i.e. attacks groomers and vets), but the vet and vet assistants were so patient and sweet with him. This is the third place I've taken my cat to to get his nails cut, and this is the first time that they were actually successful in cutting all of his nails without having him be too stressed out. I will definitely continue using this office in the future, and am recommending this place to all of my friends with pets. You will be so happy with this office if you go and will actually feel like you can trust them with your pet(s).

Truly the best vet experience we've had. Everyone from receptionist, doggy vet techs to the vet herself took time to play with our dog prior to examinations so she felt safe. I've been taking my dog here since I adopted him, and have received the best care and treatment. Their daycare facility is top notch as well, and even offers a camera so you can check in on your pup (very distracting during work but still great). They also have staff in the daycare room as well, which apparently isn't the norm at other facilities. Thankfully, we've never had any emergencies, but did experience one visit where the vet was with a patient that needed to put her dog to sleep. This ran our appointment over by an hour, but that was time the doctor was spending with someone who was grieving the loss of their pet, and I think speaks volumes to the care and service you receive here.

We like the actual vet, but the front office staff and the vet techs lack in the compassion and kindness departments. I feel like I am dismissed and ignore and not listened to when I call. Recently, my pet died at home. I called and asked to talk to the doctor, because while she was old, we did not expect this. I received no compassion or kindness from the front office staff and I never got a call from the doctor. We have another dog, but we won't be going back. The place is clean, but I need kindness and understanding when my dog has died.

Top notch!!! I rescued Larson (my adorable retired medical research Beagle) in November 2018. Having lived the first 11 months of his life in a laboratory, I am determined to make him forget his unfortunate start in this world and give him the best life possible. I tried several daycare and dog walking services but was sadly disappointed by most of them. I met a fellow dog mom at the St. Nicholas dog run who highly recommended HOH. I stopped in to check it out and was immediately impressed with the friendliness of the staff and the cleanliness of the facility. I had to bring Larson in for an evaluation and appreciated the due diligence they take to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all of the dogs. He is a very sweet boy, so he passed with flying colors. The entire staff at HOH is wonderful - Dr. Sola, the receptionists, licensed veterinary nurses, assistants, groomers and all of the pet care team members. Communication is key and the staff was completely transparent in letting me know if anything unusual happened during the day and I would receive daily updates via text or email with pictures and videos (one of my favorite photos was taken at HoH). Another great thing about HOH is that it is a one-stop-shop for all of your pet care needs: daycare, boarding, dental, grooming and medical services. I tried them all and was always pleased with the knowledge and skills of the staff. I wholeheartedly trusted everyone and knew that Larson was receiving the great care, along with so much love. He established several doggy friendships and would come home exhausted from playing (see photo). I recently moved out of Harlem and the hardest part was leaving HOH behind, although they have assured me that we will always be family. Thank you to everyone at HOH who took care of Larson! I so loved my visit with Mr. Vincent, my pup, everyone was am animal lover I felt love so did he!! I was so glad to feel such at ease to have him cared for therr!!! Even after my bill came up higher then expected and I was kind of in a jam, THE WIFE lol came and made sure he was going to b ok and made calls for credit companies for me. Before I left she gave me tons of info on insurance and other options to pay for his future visits!! One thing that I did not like was that after paying 718.00 CASH I was 17 bucks short for some food they said he needed and he would not allow me to have it!! I was in such disbelief!!! Now that I've read the other reviews not sure what to do at this point to stay or find another one

Nice staff, however I am currently waiting, I did a walk in and its been almost 2 hours what gives, they told me it could take 30 minutes to an hour and its been almost 2. Ill update this later to include their service. Update: I got called and had a wonderful doctor, their service is top-notch and the doctor explained how to apply medication and what exactly was wrong with my dog. I recommend this place, however, schedule yourself and an appointment and save yourself hours of wait time.

They take well care of My Frenchies. Always on top of when they need their boosters or annual. They are a little bit pricey but if you have insurance it goes a long way. They call to check up on your pet whenever shots are given. Overall, I am not disappointed about the care they give.

WARNING! During the dental cleaning procedure, which started 5/4later than expected, I get a call from one of the Technicians saying that they need to remove 8 teeth because "your dog has a lot of issues and things like that". I asked him to elaborate about the "issues" but he kept saying "its just teeth problems, you know?!" The vet Sola, I was told was busy to talk at that time. "The dog is under Anastasia and I need to make a decision fast. It will be an an additional $500" Since I was working 5min away from the Vetrinary, I rushed to get there as soon as I could after the phone call and asked them to show me pictures and the X-ray of the actual problemed teeth. "We just started cleaning and noticed that some teeth are weak at the root" (it was already 4pm which means Cooper was waiting with no food /water in a cage since 8am!!!) When they came out with a video they were able to prove that only 2/3teeth, bottom front, were loose and one minor decay in the back. NOT EIGHT!!! I was so surprised to see that the teeth were loose. We play fetch every morning and he has such a strong grip/bite when he plays with his toys. He would have stopped chewing on his toys if he was in pain, NO? No extreme bad breath, never any bleeding. Vet convinced me to at least, let's remove the ones you see in the video that are "shifting a little" and the one with a slight cavity in the back. Now he quoted $780. So it went from $500 for 8 teeth to $780 just for the 3. I was confused. I clarified if it's $780 additional or for the whole total of the procedure. He said it will be for the total of the whole.... I said, OK because I figured that $780 is the final total and that I would have to pay the remaining NOT an additional. I had already paid over $400 the day prior for the blood test and and half of the estimate the morning of. They we're rushing me to decide quickly, making me feel bad that the dog is waiting sedated and that it's not good to keep him under for long... ALSO on the Procedure Estimate that I had SIGNED in the morning it clearly stated that it's $25 for teeth removal. BUT they charged me $35. for the minor teeth and $75 for the major ones. When I brought it up to the front desk she said it was a mistake on the computer that wasn't updated. LIED AGAIN I was charged for the removal of 4teeth not 3 that was agreed on. Can they do that, change/update thier prices after the agreement was made????? 6year old 11lb dog $115 for injectable Anastasia $185 for inhalation Anastasia $45 local Anastasia???? (why?) Catheterization $78 X-ray $125 $153 medication like antibiotics and pain killers that they said they gave him during the procedure. And $22 for flea meds? Cooper gets groomed regularly and even both the technician and the vet Sola, said that he looks very clean and healthy 2days prior. Fleas were not mentioned!! I brought in Cooper for his regular/annual checkup/shots, walked away paying OVER $1140 . $745 (which included a "discount") was what I agreed on for the dental cleaning. not including the $275 that I had already paid for the blood work prior. When I came to pick up Cooper they said that I owe another $780. Chose Heart of Harlem mainly because it was convenient to and from work. Other things to know: For any procedures, pets must be dropped off between 7-10am. For dental cleaning, no food/water past 12am. I brought Cooper to the clinic at 8am but most staff was just arriving around 9am. The Vet arrives between 10-1pm. Procedure started around 4pm. business phones were not working that day. Bottom line, not only they charged me double for what we agreed on but they also changed the contract fees AFTER I had signed it!!! When I asked them to at least honer the fees that were agreed on from the beginning, they said "no, this is what we charging now" Honestly if it was an additional $200 (it's still alot) I would have been ok with it but to charge me double from the agreed estimate is not ok. And to change the fee amount after the agreement had been made is a SCAM!

I had a fantastic experience with Dr. Sola. My cat went through a medical emergency and he provided the level of care and empathy that you'd hope every vet would have. I can't recommend him or his facility highly enough!
