Here you will be able to see all the feddbacks of people like you who consume the products of City Veterinary Care (Veterinarian) in New York area.
At this moment this business gets a score of 4.3 out of 5 and that score was based on 85 reviews.
As you can read, the average of ratings is really positive, and it is founded on a very large number of reviews, so we may think that the valuation is very credible. If many people have bothered to evaluate when they've done well with the business, it works.
As you know, we don't usually stop to put feddbacks when they are good and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Veterinarian belongs to the category of Veterinarian.
Love doctor Nina Mohr. She is a superb vet and she has taken great care of our dog Macy.
I have 5 pets and have been taking them to City Vet Care since they opened. Dr Kaplan and his staff are caring and attentive to every situation , no matter the animal's age or illness. Dr Kaplan's diagnostic skills go beyond any I have ever experienced. The front desk staff are intelligent, responsive and always helpful...........in addition to be compassionate. I cannot imagine ever taking them to a different veterinary practice. I feel confident (and fortunate) in being a client at City Veterinary Care.
I hate this place, ugh. Charged astronomical prices, couldn’t afford the services to help my cat, asked us to take on care credit or other payment plan. Did the procedures anyway. Surrendered our cat to them, still have to pay for most services already rendered, no help for people with tight finances.
The worst thing about moving out of Manhattan was not being near Dr. Kaplan when my elderly Maltese would get sick. Even though we had to drive over two hours from the Hamotons to see him, we continued to use him as our vet. even when we were wintering in Florida, I was able to call him for advice. When she got very ill at the end of her life, I made an appointment to see him, hoping that he could save her. before the appointment, I took her to a vet in the Hamotons who after four days of seeing her, told me "it was time." It was four days before her 19th birthday and the vet said she had a day or two more to live. I just couldn't see putting her through a tough ride to Manhattan so decided to let her go one day before my appointment with Dr. Kaplan. I called City Vet to cancel the next day's appointment. That night Dr. Kaplan called me to offer his condolences, and I received a beautiful hand written note from him soon afterwards. His note was so beautiful that I took it to Florida with me when we returned there for the winter and would periodically read it to remind myself that I had done all I could possibly do for her. Dr. Kaplan understood the deep love I had for this precious little dog. Besides being an excellent doctor, he is a caring and compassionate person with a deep love for the animals he sees. When my sister's dog had to be put down, he allowed her to stay with him for a few hours after closing until she was ready to let him go. I have not been able to get another dog yet, but if I do, I would make the drive to see Dr. Kaplan again. He's the best of the best.
I visited City Veterinary today 8/13/2017 because my dog has been urinating blood for a few days, they were able to set an appointment for my dog on short notice, the staff were friendly and caring. My Dog Ruby, was examined by Doctor Nina Mohr. She was very caring an understanding regarding my financial situation and gave me great advise regarding my options to take care of my fur baby. I would definitely recommend Dr. Mohr and this veterinary office to all my friends. Thank you Dr. Mohr for showing such great empathy, caring and concerns regarding medical needs for my Ruby and easing my worries. Sincerely, Gloria Cruz
I take my English bulldog puppy there and I like it. Dr khan is very affable. As my puppy is still a puppy, no major health problems yet but the true test is when the dog is sick. My recommendation though is to look for certain supplies online and see if they’re cheaper before picking up supplies/meds from any vet office. For example, I was able to find chlorhexidine wipes for the dog’s rope which was significant cheaper than City Vet prices. Overall a wonderful experience and caring staff.
I cannot say enough good things about City Vet. I have a dog, Mooshoo, who is now 17 years old and in amazing health. She has been going to City Vet since they opened, and I credit them. She has received the best care, and it shows.
MY RESCUED DOG AND I HAVE BEEN VISITING HERE FOR NEARLY EIGHT YEARS. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF INDIVIDUAL VETS WORKING HERE AND ALL OF THEM ARE VERY PROFESSIONAL. THE ONLY QUIBBLE IS THAT SOMETIMES APPOINTMENTS ARE VERY APPROXIMATE.
It's been over 2 years since my dog died while treated by Corinna Lai, and I still haven't recovered from the misinformation and outright lies which I discovered, and which were verified by notes I requested & documented by the technician. My 11.5 yr old chihuahua had advanced heart failure and was in distress when I brought her to City Vet. My regular vet at the office, Dr. Cloud, who always gave superlative care, wasn't in. Dr Lai was very reassuring that overnight care in an O2 cage plus meds would likely work. I asked to be kept informed about her progress, especially since my dog was very frightened by strangers and would be under a great deal of stress when not with me. I was able to check her progress at 4 pm (the last time I could call -- it was Saturday) and was told she was doing very well, was resting well, and that if I don't hear from them, it means everything is fine. I made it clear that since she was near the end of her life, I didn't want needless suffering and would opt for an alternative. At 8 am. Dr Lai called to say she died. When asked for details, she said she had been doing well and suddenly expired. Asked when it occurred, she said at 7:30 a.m. After further questions, she seemed to imply that she had been present all night overseeing her care. I was surprised at this and explicitly asked whether she was there. She said "yes" and that my dog didn't suffer. I thanked her profusely, since I assumed this was beyond typical care. There were some details which she offered which seemed evasive, so I asked the office for the progress notes on my dog's care and the notes of the overnight technician. I was astonished to learn that Dr Lai had never been there, that my dog was under a lot of stress, very uncooperative & trying to bite the technician, that they were unable to check blood pressure & temp during the night (with the last body temp at 97 --well below normal) and the cage she was in had a broken heater, so they added hot water bottles to try to keep her body temp up). She suffered horribly for many hours! My plan was for home euthanasia when it was needed. Instead, i am still reliving the nightmare that my pet suffered when she most needed comfort. Both Dr Kaplan and Dr Cloud spoke to me at length about the unethical behavior of Dr Lai, and agreed that it was totally unacceptable. I fully expected that she would no longer be on their staff. Sadly, she's there. I was moved to write this now because I read on Yelp that another patient was enraged that Dr. Lai lied about giving anesthesia to her aged dog. It's rare to catch such lies. How is one to know? Had I not asked for notes (most people don't) I would have assumed that there was just an unfortunate turn of events and thankful that at least a caring vet was there to do what she could and grateful for her efforts. The outrageous blatant lies I was told makes it clear to me that NOTHING this woman say is to be trusted. BE WARNED.
Dr Romero and the front desk crew were the utmost professionals and cared for our dog Billie like she was their own. She had to have a mass of hair removed surgically and they walked us through all the steps and made sure Billie was cared well for. I have owned 2 dogs in the past and visited many vets throughout the country and I have found CityVet one of the best. Having moved out of NYC we definitely hold them in high regard and the bar others should be compared to.
I can't say enough good things about this establishment. Everyone was great from the techs to the Drs, I really appreciated the follow-up phone call I received from the Dr.
People at the front desk are rude, speak at 100 miles a minute and don't have any patience or show any concern. Every time I've gone into the clinic or called, I feel mistreated and rushed off. The only reason I didn't give a 1 star is because Dr. Mohr was kind. I definitely do not recommend this clinic. There are many others in the area to choose!
Great place great staff
Wonderful place. From the receptionists to the various veterinarians who have seen and treated my cats, everyone is kind, attentive and offers first rate attention to all.
Your precious pets are in the best hands at City Vet.
I gave one rating because of the SUPER BAD RECEPTIONIST ATTITUDE not because the doctor/ technician. She is the Asian one named Stephanie. I will SWITCH VET AND NEVER COME BACK HERE because of her. I hope the business owner or person with more authority read this and do something about it. I have been with City Vet for almost 2 years. Dont get me wrong, I love Dr Mohr and another male doctor that checks my dog every now and then. They are extremely nice and care much about the well being of my puppy. HOWEVER, the receptionist is very rude and ONLY the one I am talking about. So she was always so in rush, never explained something well, cery rude if I ask question about the bill, etc etc. At first I thought, oh maybe it was acceptable because I only care about the doctor since it is for my dog. BUT, after many times of ANNOYING and RUDE response, I can't stand it anymore. The last one is the unbearable one, so I has some question about pricing of some medicine that I purchased, she was annoyed already and explained rudely (as usual). After that, I decided to purchase one more package of the item and paid for it. Because she was rushing me, I left. After like 20 minutes and when I was already almost home, I realized she never gave me the item. I called them, and she responsed rudely, 'oh, we were about to call you'. BUT COME ON, IT HAS BEEN 20 MINUTES. She didn't even say SORRY. Not even once. SO I came back, very angry, picked up the items and left. I SWEAR TO MYSELF I WILL NEVER COME BACK HERE. NOT UNTIL SHE WAS REPLACED OR UNTIL SHE APOLOGIZE TO ME FORMALLY. HER NAME IS STEPHANIE, remember that. I hope someone really do something about this so the doctors don't lose their patients, just because of REPEAT BAD SERVICE FROM THE ONE RECEPTIONIST.
Best Vet I have ever been to by far. Dr.Andrew Kaplan was very patient and smart. He spent a lot of time reviewing all of the details of my dogs medical history. He paid close attention to detail. My dog felt more relaxed at city veterinary care than he ever has at any vet before.
Excellent animal care. On the expensive side.
A fantastic veterinary office. Dr. Khan is the best and every staff member I’ve encountered, from the vet techs to reception, is incredibly helpful and kind.
Profesional, courteous and not too expensive.
The best. Love Dr. Cloudman for cats, they are amazing and even after I moved I still travel to them.
Wonderful caring staff. Very reasonable costs.
Great staff. They are knowledge and caring of our four legged family members. For example, I had to put down a family cat due to old age, over 20 years!, and they were extremely professional and courteous during the whole experience. They understand that they are treating our family, our babies. That's the most important.
Dr. Kaplan is a superb veterinarian. Very smart, thorough and professional -- and he always returns calls the same day/evening. It's obvious upon meeting him that he cares deeply about the welfare of all animals. Your pet will be in the best hands. Dr. Hurson is also very good.
We have been using services of Dr. Kaplan for the past 10 years for our dog, and now that our cat vet retired, our kitty goes to see him as well.
The doctors and support staff at City Vet are outstanding! They are highly trained professionals who truly care about about their patients and their owners.
Absolutely love how Dr. Kaplan runs his practice. He is so caring, so involved with each an every Pet/patient. He explains everything. I have been a client of Dr. Kaplan for over 10 yrs. He is AMAZING
Staff was welcoming and helpful, and Dr. Mohr was engaging and articulate
If I could add stars to this rating I would. Dr. Kaplan and his staff are one of the most qualified, professional, and caring practices I've ever been to in my 25 yrs being a pet parent. Their compassion and dedication to animals is outstanding. Without doubt, they are NYs finest.
After spending enough to purchase a Birkin at a different practice in my neighborhood downtown, Dr. Kaplan cured my dog's ear infection that had been resistant to antibiotics for the previous 6 months. We were facing surgery to remove portions of her ear when he stepped in and prevented this! The staff are amazing as well; so kind and helpful. Beyond thankful for Nicole at City Vet for suggesting Dr. Kaplan as Eloise is priceless!
Great place to bring your dog or cat. Attentive and caring staff. Doctors are awesome too.
Knowledgeable staff and very friendly and caring. I have no regrets of taking my animals here. Seem to be a tad on the expensive side but not to bad considering the area.
Hello to everyone who is evaluating this vet, I want to say that i am shocked by the reviews that i am seeing here. While most of the reviews seem to be centered around Doctor Kaplan, whom i have never used nor encountered, i disagree with the overall sentiment about this veterinary practice. My dog, has been a patient of city vet ever since we moved back to NYC from San Francisco and we have been unbelievable happy with their care. My dog has had respiratory issues her entire life and had been on predisone to counteract the symptoms which has many side effects. Upon meeting Dr Khan, whom i have come to respect enormously, she suggested that we transition her to Flovent which is an aerial steroid instead on an ingested one, her respiratory issues have improved tremendously. I have found Dr. Khan to be compassionate and knowledgeable and i trust her with my Cassidy's life. To anyone thinking of using this vet, i cannot speak of Dr. Kaplan because i have never used him but all of the other vets there have been great and always make sure to get back to me in a very timely fashion and follow up after all of our visits with a phone call just to check in. Thanks Dr. Khan!!!

Wow I am completely blown away by the negative reviews of Dr. Kaplan and his staff. I was recommended by a highly reknowned Internist from Animal Medical Center when my dog was diagnosed with Cushings. Before ending up at City Vet Care, I had literally fired 3 other vets who tried to treat Buttons' atypical Cushings with a myriad of drugs from Lysodren to Trilostane. I did some research and found an implant that could be used to bring all her hormonal levels down not just the Cortisol. Dr. Kaplan and his former associates, Dr. Maria Camps did the little implant and it worked. Unfortunately, then Buttons developed cancer in her metatarsal pad. They did everything they could for Buttons and never overcharged me. They were kind and caring to my little dog who passed in June 2008. When I adopted a new rescue dog, I brought Tey-ha straight to Dr. Kaplan and I come from New Jersey. He spends 1.5 hours with us when we do a wellness check. We go over everything from A-B and address my concerns with vaccines, diet etc. I have great respect for Dr. Kaplan and his staff or I wouldn't be traveling from New Jersey. The only complaint I have is that some of the girls at the desk play around when they should be paying attention to the customers and that includes not getting pet insurance forms filled out.
If you love your pet and care for its well-being, go somewhere else. Negligent is too kind of a description for their services, at least in "Dr." Romero's case. I had given this location multiple chances, and that was a huge mistake. Their first priority is to get your pet out as soon as possible, while billing you as if they provided competent service. When I brought my dog in a couple years back, I brought to Romero's attention two smaller lipomas on his waist and a much larger one on his abdomen. While she aspirated the smaller ones, she completely dismissed the abdominal growth as muscle tissue, though the mass was movable and asymmetric with the other side. Didn't even aspirate. I came back again a month or two later for another test, this time insisting the larger mass be tested and low and behold, it was a large lipoma. Her examinations seemed tailored to take as little time as possible, even if that meant missing pertinent health issues. Fast forward a few months to when a mass on his waist had grown to the size of a baseball. Seeing that it constantly bothered him and having done some research, I went to City Veterinary Care to have it surgically removed. I also inquired/suggested whether a drainage tube should be installed for such a large mass to help drain any fluid that might build up, to prevent infection and facilitate healing. Well, they removed the mass, leaving a pretty jagged incision and no drainage tube. Guess how that turned out (see the attached photos). The wound seeped fluid and did not heal properly, and became somewhat infected. Apparently Google is a better vet than the butchers who work here. So, we brought him in once again (to be caged while waiting to be seen - 5/6 hours later than the scheduled time) and they finally put in that drainage tube I (not a vet) had suggested before the first procedure, and prescribed antibiotics. Oh, but before that happened, the clueless receptionist handed me a form and told me to sign it and give the go ahead for whatever they deemed necessary, and they would let me know what the cost was later on. No one else (doctor, administrator who had a clue) besides this high school drop out was available to give me any information whatsoever. Floored by the sheer gall of these guys to ask for my consent to bill whatever, but with no options at this point, I signed the form and had them perform the procedure to install the drainage tube and re-stitch him (to correct the hack job they performed initially). That was the last time I've ever been back, and I've been much happier with Hudson Animal Hospital ever since.
Amazing! He took such good care of my guy the last year of his life. Then Dr. Kaplan turned around and gave me two kittens. He has been their doctor for 12 years!
I went to the vet to get my cat's blood taken. First of all they took him to another room so I couldn't see what they were doing to him, then after they were done he had a large bloody wound where they took the blood. The vet brushed my concerns off to the side by saying "it would go away in a few days"One month later, this is what it looks like (see photo). Never going here again. Anyone reading this should stay away. How difficult is it to take blood?
Dr. Khan was wonderful and the whole staff was great. No pet likes going to the vet but my husky mix always walks in with enthusiasm. The in house pets are sweet and clearly very well loved and cared for. Definitely a place full of animal lovers.
I took our 9 week puppy right after he arrived. My experience so far has been excellent. The admin staff is responsive, friendly and very knowledgeable. The doctors we have seen, Kahn and Cloudman were both very courteous, professional and very sweet to our puppy. They were generous with their time and patient guiding us through all the questions we had as new puppy parents. The doctors called us after each exam to discuss results and answer my questions. I would not go anywhere else!
Wondering if this place only hire vegans, otherwise it’s just hypocritical to have a sign protesting Canada Goose
We have been bringing our dogs to city vet for a decade and couldn't be happier. We love all the vets and especially our primary doctor Khan. They are all so kind and really love all the animals and just take such good care of them as well as us anxious pet owners. The staff, the office, the tech hours and services all are perfect. They even offer ultrasounds for our aging pup.
One of the biggest reasons my wife, Summer, was so happy to move back to NYC, was because she could bring her cats back under Dr. Kaplan’s care. We bring all 5 of our cats here. Summer has been a client since practically the day they opened. She’s... particular. And worries a lot about her kitties. And is very busy with a lot of travel. “CityVet” works with her schedule, provides excellent care, takes the time to really listen and explain, and, most importantly, gives Summer peace of mind.
Great staff! We love it and our dog loves it too, seriously.
My yorkie poo had been a patient if dr Gordon's for close to 3 years. He had started peeing in his sleep and not holding his pee during the day. Gordon called it incontinence and perscribed medication for it. The medication didn't work. They kept increasing the dosage, still didn't work. Apparently Gordon couldn't figure out what was wrong and suggested testosterone injections and said he would get me mOre information. Weeks passed and nothing. I decided this was bullshit and went to get a second opinion. The new doctor told me that my 3yr old puppy was in KIDNEY FAILURE and had been in it for a while. They said a vet would've caught this with blood work. Turns out city vet care charged me for blood work but never actually did the blood work. Now ONE month after my dog being diagnosed he's in end stage and is dying. I have seen 5 doctors in the past month and nobody can save my dog because the disease is too far along City vet care is completely overpriced and they're care is complete bullsh*t. Don't bring your pet here!
NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL! I brought my dog there for a dental procedure. After having blood tests and an exam prior to the dental procedure they determined that he was in good health for the dental procedure (Dr. Khan emailed me as such). The nightmare began when I brought him in a few days later for the procedure. At noon, the dental surgeon, Dr. Martel, called me and advised that my dog was "doing great" and the dental procedure would be completed in the next half hour and I could bring my dog home a few hours afterward. When I went to City Vet about three hours later the vet tech, Christine Lagonda, brought my dog out to me in a semi drugged state. I was immediately concerned and I also noticed that his breathing was labored. I told the vet tech I felt that my dog should have a post op exam. Her snotty reply was that his breathing was fine and she had a lot of experience in these matters, she said some dogs come out of anesthesia sooner than others and that I should take my dog home and he would be fine. She said it was not necessary for a DVM to examine his breathing as he had a pre exam and he would be fine as soon as he was less groggy. There were four employees of City Vet behind the counter and not one of them lifted a finger to help me and my dog or call a DVM from the back office when I was saying how concerned I was about him. I brought my dog home and he began to fail very soon. I called City Vet and they said to bring him there (the NERVE! We had just left there) or go to Blue Pearl emergency. I lifted my dog into my arms and before we got to the door he died in my arms. I WAS DEVASTATED. Rushed him to Blue Pearl and after ten minutes the DVM that worked on him said he could not be saved and had likely died in my arms twenty minutes earlier. My follow up calls to Dr. Kaplan at City Vet and Dr. Martel the dental surgeon at City Vet were met with decency but NO explanation of why my dog died from a dental procedure which they said was basically routine. I asked them DID SOMETHING HAPPEN DURING SURGERY/AFTER SURGERY? IN THE RECOVERY ROOM? DID MY DOG DEVELOP A TOXIC REACTION TO THE ANESTHESIA? DID ANY VET NOTICE THAT MY DOG WAS STILL SO GROGGY HOURS AFTER SURGERY? WHY WAS MY DOG RELEASED TO ME IN A SEMI DRUGGED STATE? They offered no definitive answers. My beautiful, loyal, loving dog died because of something they cannot or will not tell me about and so it remains a mystery. Believe me, this has wounded me deeply and I would NEVER again leave my dog in the care of City Vet. In fact, I would never again trust any vet tech anywhere that tells me to take my dog home when I am voicing my concern that something does not seem right.
I first went to Dr. Kaplan when the office first opened 2002? something like that. I had a standard poodle. My dog received excellent care. When at 3 the dog got bloat Dr. Kaplan referred me (late at night on a weekend) to a place on the east side that performed the surgery and Dr. Kaplan followed up carefully. After that the dog was great until at 11 he developed an irregular heartbeat. This was corrected by medication that worked really well for about four months (we knew we were buying time). At the end Dr. Kaplan could not have been more caring and kind. I now have two young cats who see Dr. Cloudman once a year. My experience at CVC has been only positive.
Kitty Kitty was nervous at first but ended up having a great check-up. A perfect experience - great staff and great doctors!!!
My experiences at City Veterinary Care over the past ten years have been extremely positive. Dr. Kaplan and and the other veterinarians that I have had the pleasure to meet at various appointments over the years have demonstrated expertise and genuine concern. In particular, I have seen Dr. Nina Mohr many times, and I cannot praise her enough. Her skill and compassion are unsurpassed! In addition, the veterinary technicians and other staff that I have met have all been helpful and caring. I always recommend the practice to the pet parents of new pups that I meet in the neighborhood. I am really grateful to everyone at City Veterinary Care.
Please don't bring your poor innocent animal here to suffer from unnecessary procedures. VERY dirty and feels like they've been doing construction for years in there, yet you would never know. The last time we were there it smelled so bad my eyes watered from the urine stench. HIGH TURNOVER of staff. Rarely see the same doctor or receptionist twice, the good ones always seem to leave the practice... Despite all the bad reviews from people in the neighborhood, we still came here out of convenience and our poor dog suffered for it. Simple UTI and their suggestion was for a procedure that stuck a large needle into her bladder to test. In the end, paid hundreds of dollars for some amoxicillin. When speaking with the owner (because the doctor refused to speak with me), I found him rude and arrogant to the point I had to tell him to watch himself and to be courteous enough to let me speak without him interrupting me. If he thinks he can speak to patients the way he does his staff he is very mistaken.
One vet insisted to give my dog a Rabies vaccine after I said no to it. I gave no consent and he did it anyway!! My dog went on to have severe reactions from it. He needed surgery to remove what the oncologist said was the "active rabies vaccine”. I’ve been to this vet many times out of convenience to my home. I have yet to find a vet there who is truly experienced, professional, or who gives you a feeling of confidence in his/her abilities that you can trust.
Excellent care from all the vets.
The best. So lucky to have them in the neighborhood. Great doctors and staff. Nice space as well. Every experience has been positive.
