There’s no other veterinary clinic I will take my little parakeet to but this place. I took my bird to another vet prior to Ventana but her health wasn’t improving so I searched for a different vet. I brought her here and with Dr. Contos’s experience with birds and problem solving she helped my bird get back to good health. Now, this is my go to place for my little birdies. We drive from SW Abq to come to this clinic.

Lots of vets want to nickel and dime their customers because they know we care so much about our pets. This is not that kind of place. Ventana Animal Clinic took excellent care of our puppy who needed entropion surgery. They discussed different options with me and are incredibly compassionate people. I highly recommend this clinic!

Best vet clinic I've ever been too. My dog was having seizures and they got him in immediately and put him in a room right away to avoid him stressing from other animals. I was in office from start to end, 40 minutes!!! Very prompt and Thorough. I got blood results via email first thing in the morning and a call shortly after from the dr. They were all so nice and caring and loving to my dog. You could see they care. The office was clean and didn't have a foul odor like other clinics I've been too. Prices were great too. I will return here for any further issues. I definitely recommend this place.

Updated Nov 2018 : We've been taking our Bulldog to Ventana Animal Clinic since the Fall of 2016. The care provided by the staff has been consistently outstanding. I'll also point out how patient they are, which if you have a happy little party animal like us, says a lot about the care they provide. As most of our visits have been with Dr. Heidrich I also want to note what an incredible source of knowledge he is. You name it, he seems to have always just read the latest research and is happy to tell you as much as you can handle. Really an extraordinary group of professionals.

Great service for regular appointments. Staff is very friendly. For emergencies though I would suggest elsewhere since they keep regular business hours and seem to run a slim staffing. I continue to use them for regular checkups for my dog and cat and will use another animal hospital for emergencies.

Really, really?! I read these reviews and they don't mirror my experience at all. The assistants are atrocious. They all had severe attitude problems and treated my like a second class citizen. And when it came to treating my puppy, they acted strange as though it was not important that it was vomiting and ill. I took my puppy to another clinic and she tested a strong positive for PARVO! a test that should have been the first one they performed and it was never even mentioned on their behalf. Shameful place. Their exam room is now contaminated with the virus and since they suck so badly it probably wasn't even cleaned.

We have exotic birds, and both Vets have always been so good with them and us, 2 times on an emergency visits. The staff is so sweet and knowledgeable. We will always use this vet office. Best Vet in town. If you want the best for your pet then this is the place to go!!! My huskey probably didn't have a large chance to live but because we took him here to get the correct care and treatment he is still alive. The most important thing to remember when having a pet is that they're like your children and it is very important to find a vet that will do all they can to make sure your babies are healthy. Dr. Contos, Victoria and the whole front staff were wonderful!! I had to take my 12 year old cat in for an abscess on her face. They got us in right away and we’re so sweet and caring with me and my beloved pet!! Dr. Contos took the time to explain everything we needed to do to care for Daisy and what to do if we need to go back. Hopefully we won’t need to but if we do, I know we will be in good hands!

They are so overpriced that we drove our dogs 1,000 miles back to their old Vet for care. I paid 700.00 for the dogs needs in Missouri, and that care here would have cost me 3,000.00. Atleast we had a nice vacation and our dogs got fussed over by their old Vet. I miss Vets that love animals as much as we do. It is sad that some vets only care about money.

We asked for a female vet, I think her name is Dr Stilwell. She and the entire staff were great! We received good care at a great price. $50 for the appointment plus 2 medications that we very much needed, all came out to be $102. Been charged much more at other places for poor quality care. They were great with our 2 yr old Great Dane. We will be going here again and already have recommend this Veterinarian to friends and family.

I wish I didn't have to rate this place. Our puppy got her very first check up here after we adopted her. We tried going back a couple months later for another one, but they said they had no file of my puppy on hand, and they didn't take her in to get a check up at all. I won't recommend this place to anybody who has dogs, or cats.

Worst vet in Rio Rancho! Went in for concerns over my dogs ear, my dog is a rottweiler and the dr made me put him in a mussle which i understand him not knowing my dog, but then he refuses to look on his ear because he said my dog was too wild, give me a break i put him in a mussle and held him so he could look and my dog showing very little resistance the dr refuses to look and says he would have to knock out my dog just to examime his ear. Little excessive to LOOK at a dog but not to mention still got charged over 100 dollars for a exam that never happened this place is horrible!

This place is absolutely horrible!!!!! My dog was having an allergic reaction and they would not accept us as a walk in. My dogs eyes were swelling and he could not open them and the horribly rude blonde women named KATLYN who was working the front desk told me she would not take my dog because they were "very" busy. There was only one dog in the lobby! She told me the next appointment was on Monday. How would waiting until Monday help my dog?! Katlyn was extremely rude and VERY unprofessional!!!! NEVER GO HERE BECAUSE THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR ANIMALS!

I LOVED my first experience with Ventana!! Dr. Kristin Reger was super thorough and really interested in everything I had to report, and was very interested in figuring out what was going on with out dog. She was upfront about costs, so I could make an informed decision. She's really sweet with the dogs, very calming and very patient, but also very knowledgeable and scientific. Staff was great, and there was a great military discount. Also, they sent me a link for an online pet profile, and upon review, it's extremely well designed and had a summary of tour past visits, tests run, etc. You can also make appointments through that tool, and access an online community of people who also use V entana. Awesome!

Very disappointed. I was in search for a new vet. Dr was knowledgeable but staff and dr were not responsive to answering questions. Did not return phone calls. I had to remind the dr to do a general physical exam on first consultation. Did not listen to my concerns regarding my aging pup. I will be returning to my previous vet clinic unless anyone has suggestions.

Dr. Contos is experienced, an easy listener, and skilled. My pets always come back feeling better and are never scared by the staff. It was hard choosing a vet for my sugar gliders since many vets find/use misleading info about these exotics, I was thrilled that Dr. Contos had previous experience with them and also understood their strict dietary requirements. Soon after the sugar gliders appointments my family switched our 2 dogs from another place so that they too would receive caring and experienced vet care.

Ventana has been our family vet clinic almost since they opened. They've handled everything for us from removing tumors from a dwarf hamster to surgery on my dachshund that's obsessed with eating things she shouldn't to end of life care for some of our beloved pets. They've always been helpful and compassionate and the staff are wonderful. Also, any time they've done something major they've been very forthcoming with their prices and given them to us in writing before anything is done. Dr. Stowell has also been great about suggesting alternatives when doing diagnostics (e.g. "We could do this test, or we could do these instead which will cost less but may be more invasive, etc.") I honestly can't think of a single bad thing to say them and would recommend them to anyone who needs a good vet on Albuquerque's westside.

Went here to have my pets nails trimmed and get him his vaccinations after moving to Albuquerque from out of state. Our previous vet had no trouble giving him his vaccinations or trimming his nails but at ventana animal clinic they hurt him to the point he was screaming. Our kitty never had any problems with nail trims or vaccinations before, wont take him to Ventana again.

Let me be clear. This is the best veterinarian clinic in New Mexico, and Dr. Heidrich is probably the best vet in New Mexico. I have been to many clinics and seen many vets as I have been raising dogs, and I have witnessed a range of talent and customer service in this state. This clinic, and Dr. Heidrich, are way outside of that range. ALL of the clinic employees and doctors are SO customer friendly. It feels like going to a Marriott hotel. Everyone is focused on the customer. They go way above and beyond what is expected, and the doctors are very patient with customers and pets alike. I love it there. Also, Dr. Heidrich may very well be one of the best veterinarians in the region to perform OFA hip x-rays. If you pay any other vet who is merely "certified" to perform OFA x-rays, you will probably waste a lot of money for misleading x-rays. The "Precise Positioning Technique" for OFA radiographs is not usually attainable by other vets who are merely OFA "certified". Dr. Heidrich is an expert at the technique. I am unaware of any other vet in the state similarly capable of producing an accurate OFA x-ray. For the cost of an OFA submission, it would be far more economical to travel a thousand miles to get an OFA x-ray from Dr. Heidrich than to take a chance with a local vet who with the same certification and far less experience who is likely to produce a much less accurate OFA submission.

This is the BEST vet clinic I have ever been to! I have two very sweet, but old, dogs with many issues. Over the last three years that I have been taking them in, despite outliving their life expectancy, their health and quality of life has improved with the help of the Ventana AC Docs. I was told of this place by a friend, after having had a bad, and expensive experience with VCA. I wish I'd known about them long ago. The techs are all super nice and caring of my wife and I, and our dog Rio. We eventually had to put Rio down and they were extremely courteous, kind and gentle at such a traumatic time for us. I highly recommend these folks. I can not express my gratitude for these folks enough.

First I should say that this is the only clinic in New Mexico to offer radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroid kitties so I had little choice of where to take my cat. I didn't know the clinic or the vet and didn't have much of a choice but I'm very pleased with everything about the experience. That includes everything from the quality of service, services rendered and even the cost. The veterinary staff coordinating required tests with my regular vet and facilitating prompt treatment since results are time dependent. It sounds easier than it probably was. My kitty had to stay in the facility a full week and you can't visit them but the staff called me every other day (even on a Sunday!) after visiting with my kitty to tell me how he was doing. The vet (Dr Heidrich) and his staff were professional, friendly, compassionate and -I don't normally notice these things- the facility was quite lovely (very modern and new), a lot of custom touches. For example, one section of the acoustical tile in the ceiling, had trailing paw prints embedded in them -so cute. I already have a vet (I live 30 miles away) but if I didn't, I'd use this facility, no doubt. As a practical matter, it is always good to have a back up vet for timeliness and second opinions so I definitely plan to return.

I am very picky and protective of my dog due to him being a rescue and the time it took for him to trust people. I took my chihuahua in for an initial assessment. He needed shots which they gave right there. He wasn’t nervous at all and he did fine. It was no big deal. If anything he was happy to be there and meet new “friends.” We met with the vet to discuss his mouth and teeth which he needed surgery on. I felt like I could trust her to be careful with him. The surgery went fine but I noticed my dog was limping and biting at his feet the days after. I looked at his feet and I noticed his nails and they had cut 3 of them way too short! You could tell they had bleed. I was furious. I never once agreed to a nail clipping nor was I informed this was going to take place. I wasn’t there for that. I was there for his teeth removal and cleaning. And you hurt my dog for no reason but being careless and lazy. He’s never had a problem with the vet or his toenails being trimmed. Now he’s traumatized of either. I will never bring my dog back here due to negligence and physical pain and harm you caused an innocent animal. This was not okay, at all.

When I first brought my pet here he needed surgery. The nurses the doctors they were all so amazing. The day after surgery the doctor called me twice to let me know how my pet was doing, and the nurse called twice also, the same day. They not only are good medically but have a compassionate bedside manner too
