This is the best veterinarian we've ever had. They diagnosed our dog with diabetes when our old vet had been treating her for incontinence for over a year & then couldn't see her for 3 days when we thought she had a UTI. That was over 5 years ago. They have guided us through every medical issue since then with great professionalism & caring. Honey, a chow/golden mix will be 15 in December & still taking her daily walks because of the care from these highly trained professionals.

This veterinarian came highly recommended by the lady that I bought my parrots from. His name is Dr. Levinson . He was a very nice guy and I think he did a very thorough check up that’s where it ends. I emailed him several times within a two month span with little to no response I had to reach out to Avian specialist in Arizona and in San Diego Dr. Levinson said he would be more than happy to talk to these doctors but that he would charge me a consultation fee .. now my thought is you’re going to charge me a fee to do your job to see what is wrong with my babies that’s pretty low .. I work in the medical field and asked several medical doctors not veterinarians if they had a patient that had a complex issue and they need to consult with another doctor that was a specialist would they charge the veteran a consultation fee they said no that’s part of us being able to diagnose the problem ..Dr. Levinson was more involved in opening up his second practice then taking care of my birds but he was more than grateful to except my credit card I highly do not recommend this doctor as he’s in it for the business and for the money not in it for the right reasons and that’s the reason I’m posting this for yo dr. And to be honest with you they are doing wonderful no thanks to Dr. Levinson. If you have a parrot I recommend you speak to a few avian specialist throughout the country I had to do the homework that my so-called veterinarian should’ve been doing but was too busy out of town all the time .. The comment that I made to the doctor, if he had a regular doctor and he was sick and that regular doctor did not take care of him and he was still sick what would he do,? I know what I would do I would change my doctor and I did .. I really hate writing negative reviews but I want people to be aware of certain issues that I saw with my own eyes .. I do thank him for doing the blood work but again that’s what I paid for ..I’m sure he will have a response for this review, but I have all the documentation if anyone would like to see it .. I am a Vet, and am not stranger to documenting everything. and creating a paper trail, with date and times..

Dr. Hedemann and her team were amazing. Very caring and loving people. My dog had Lymphoma and I was told all the options, statistics, pricing, etc. The Dr. and staff did not pressure me or insinuate that any option was right or wrong. We started chemo but my poor guy had a bad reaction or something and when I took him back in the next morning, they helped me right away, put us in a room, made a bed for my dog on the floor, tried to lower his temperature with ice packs and wet towels, along with several other things in an attempt to rescue him. He unfortunately passed away in my arms that day but the staff was so nice and empathetic. They didn't charge me for taking him in that day and were able to have him cremated for $180. They also made a paw print for me and cut some of his hair for me top keep. Overall a wonderful experience during a very difficult time. I would definitely recommend them and use them again myself. They even have a coupon on Yelp for a free first time exam!

We just love everyone there! We have several pets and have had a number of reasons we have been there. They always are kind, gentle and patient with our pets and with us! I appreciate never feeling rushed and that they always explain everything very well.

This place could be amazing and actually live up to its great pet care if their receptionist wasn't such a rude individual. I called today to get results from a test and was told off by this receptionist for calling before they called me. She then told me off about how they had non working numbers for me, I gave them a good number yesterday, and how the Rio Grande Animal clinic had the wrong number as well. I then called the animal clinic and they had the correct phone number, meaning she wrote it down wrong when calling them, but still blamed me. I cannot believe she is allowed around animals if she speaks to the humans this way!

Dr. Levinson has been caring for all my pets since 2011 when they were located in Corrales. Great friendly staff. Levinson himself takes his time. They are so thorough. I feel comfortable leaving my dogs and kitten in their hands. Also, they have squeezed us in on a busy weekend when my pup had an allergic reaction. I just really love them! Amenities are always clean and the facility and rooms smell fresh. Thanks for all you do.

I take all 5 of my critters here... 2 dogs, 2 bunnies, and a guinea pig. Both Dr Levenson and Dr Hedeman are fabulous. They are the only place in Abq I would take my little critters, and they are so kind with all of my pets. I have a rescue pittie who is a big sweet guy and we've had several other vets/vet techs say things like "he looks scary" or try to tell us that we should be using a prong collar on him. Dr Hedeman sits on the floor and loves on him and is just the best. I adore all their vet techs, too. Thanks so much for taking such good care of my furry babies!!!

I've been traveling from Santa Fe for years to see Dr. Levenson when my house rabbits are in need of veterinary care. He's the best rabbit-savvy vet in the entire state! Dr. Levenson explains the diagnosis well, works with you on an affordable treatment plan & is very compassionate. If your rabbit has misaligned or overgrown incisors/molars, Dr. Levenson is the only vet I trust in NM to competently and carefully carry out delicate dental and abscess surgery on rabbits. Highest recommendation for Dr. Levenson and his friendly, competent vet techs and staff!!! Love that Southwest Veterinary Medical Center's logo includes a rabbit!

Dr. Levenson took the time to explain about the dental procedure for Buddy. His assistant was also helpful in answering my questions regarding the procedures before the dental hygiene work took place. They called me the next day to see how Buddy was doing after his dental work. That's definitely customer service!:) He also emailed me his thoughts about the medicine Buddy was taking for his diabetes. I truly appreciate his efforts for my boys, Buddy and Oreo. This is not a caring veterinary office. My Beau had two problems and the doctor couldn't even use his instrument to look in my Yorkies eye, his scope went all over his face, and he was unable to look at a skin specimen as there was "too much hair", couldn't use forceps to separate problem insect from his hair. Sold me cortisone eye drops human grade made for animals that have different Ph, without telling me it had cortisone, last line of treatment before other measure and certainly not effective for a parasite. Sold me more expensive product that I asked for and it died like glue, made hair stick together. Hostile when I complained. and insulted me.Just likes to make money selling Sold me two medications that were not appropriate or effective and was extremely rude when I asked for refund. Insulted me as a registered nurse. Greedy non caring about my pet. No such thing as Registered Veterinary Nurse as his staff are titled. Veterinary Technician is the actual degree. Keep your purse closed. They don't care about your animal. Refuse to pay for drugs if they do not tell you specifically what is in it. Never put cortisone in pets eyes as his condition with fungal infection could cause the orbit to collapse. Couldn't diagnose skin so why give drops when they cannot see it. Grrrr. Levenson money hungry.

I have never had a better experience with a vet than I have here. The doctors and technicians treat my pets as if they were their own. One of my dogs recently started acting very strangely and I rushed her in, without an appointment, and was seen almost immediately. I don't know if the vet wasn't busy or if he had a break, but it made me feel as though I was the only one there. The receptionists are top notch too. They always remember my dogs and treat me like a person, not a bill. Come to think of it, the vets do that as well. I don't feel like a paycheck, I feel like a valued person in there, like they're happy I chose their office out of the many others around town. I can't say enough nice things about this place, and they have our business as long as we have pets.

Repeatedly poor service, incompetent staff who fail to fax in prescriptions in a timely manner, if at all. There is no follow up on their work. On several occasions I went to pick up prescriptions for my elderly dog only to have the pharmacist say nothing was received. I even called the vet clinic to get them to resend the script and the staff woman who answered the phone refused. When I called the woman out on her behavior the clinic owner said go elsewhere. I called for information on an exotic and had to deal with a rude pubescent boy.

Best vet I've ever been to! Dr. Abbott really knows her exotics, especially reptiles. I've been to her twice with my reptiles and both times it was amazing! They never run unnecessary test or send things to labs when it's really not needed. If they told me I needed to spend extra on something I would trust them completely. Their always great on getting me an appointment when I need one soon and Dr. Abbott sits and talks with me about husbandry every time. While I've done research on husbandry, many other keepers may not and she really gives great and gentle advice. I'll always take my animals to them. Their prices are also amazing! I paid $70 for an exotic visit, I've been quoted as high as $200 just for the visit at other clinics. Their communication and skills are just amazing. 100% recommend

Southwest is the only place I will ever take my fur babies to. The entire staff, doctors, techs, receptionists, even Jill the office manager have gone above and beyond for my 1 year old dog child. They've saved her more than once and in turn have saved me as well. They are all so loving, caring, knowledgeable and good hearted. I can't reccomend this place and Dr Hedemann enough!
