REVIEWS OF Smith Veterinary Hospital IN New Mexico

I walked into this place on a busy Thursday morning in November with a mangled kitten I had found on the side of the highway the night before. Within 30 minutes we were seen and the kitten was cleaned up, hydrated, & fed. She wasn't in very good shape, but they supplied me with food and meds to try my best to nurse her to back to health. They were extremely fair with their prices and even gave me the option to sign up for CareCredit in the office. Thankfully she made a full and speedy recovery and 7 months later and I have the best cat ever. I am sooo thankful for the educated and caring team at Smith Veterinary for their help that day. My kitty (that I never knew I needed) has been such an amazing addition to my life.

Melynn Schuyler

Smith has handled our sensitive cat illnesses with compassion and wisdom, and helped my family through it all with love and care.

Tony Aragon

The techs and vets are top notch. Every pet I've had here have been treated extremely well.

Joseph Santoro

Love this place because walk-ins are welcome and dont require and hour long wait. Very professional help.

Clay Allison

Skilled, loving staff that are honest and caring.

We were lied to about the gravity of our puppy's health because Dr Jones wanted to keep her. When I brought her in she immediately asked that I surrender and if she lived she would adopt her. I should surrender because "she would most likely die" and it would be very expensive to try to save her. I said I wanted to at least try. The next morning received a call from another vet stating Millie was still very ill and would most likely not make and was again told I should surrender to Dr Jones. I asked the vet if she really felt she was that bad and she would really die. She responded her chances at survival where very very slim and even if she could recover she would need very aggressive care which would cost over $1000/night and could need 7 nights so I'd be looking at around $7k to try but even then she would most likely die and suggested I surrender. She said my other option was to euthanize but I would obviously never kill her without even letting her fight for her life. She asked me to discuss with my family and call her soon with a decision. I explained to my husband the situation and he said if she really needed that much care and would probably not make it we had no choice but to surrender. I then spoke to my daughter(4 year old) and she cried a lot and said "mom I don't want another puppy I want my Millie". Heartbroken and all my daughter and I went to the hospital. The Vet said we needed to pay the remaining balance and sign surrender before we could see her. When we saw Millie for the last time she looked ill but not as bad as when I left her. I immediately regretted giving in to the stress and pressure of surrendering but felt I could not retract because they assured me she'd most likely die. We were rushed to say our goodbyes and left. A lady called the next day on Monday to make a donation and asked about Millie's well being and was told she was doing much better and they had high hopes she would make it. Less than 24 hours that I had been told she needed 7 days of care to maybe make it but would even then most likely die she is doing much better and has high hope of survival. I was of course very glad to hear the great news but now regreted the surrender even more and now felt lied to and manipulated by the vets because Dr. Jones wanted to keep her since the moment she saw her. We want our Millie back home to her family.

Very good place

Wonderful staff and opened during weekends

Dear Dr. Jones, Thank you so much for helping our sweet boy heal after he was transferred to Smith from the EVC for his rattlesnake bite. He is now resting comfortably at home and improving little by little. We have no doubt that it’s thanks to the care you and the team provided him. If we lived in Santa Fe we would no doubt choose you to be Tefen’s vet. Would recommend this place to all, especially Dr. Jones. Thorough, comprehensive and compassionate care. Thank you, Tefen’s parents

Carolyn Coarsey

I found the entire team of vets, techs and all staff friendly and very empathic in the recent loss of our little Maltese Rocky. They were amazing and I highly recommend them for all pet care as they also care for our elderly cat.

Kimberly Romero

Friendly staff. Warm and caring! Highly recommend

Jehna Martinez

Great care for your animals. Very knowledgeable staff and they really care about our animal family members. Expensive, but w with it

Charley Seavey

I have never seen the negativity described by others here. I've had two dogs under Smith's care, with no complaints. When the first, Foster, had to be put down at age 17, they couldn't have been nicer. Dr Brear has been a great help in dealing with the brucellosis our present dog arrived from rescue with. So far she (the dog) has been living a normal life for about the last five years.

Daniel J. Pinkston, DDS

We took our French bulldog for an after hours emergency visit, and they took excellent care of her. They were very caring and thorough. We felt so comfortable that we took our new puppy in for her vaccinations and exam. Both of our dogs are seen here now. We love the staff. Our vet, Dr. Breer, was so knowledgeable and informative about how we can take better care of our pups :) The front desk staff and all the vet techs we have dealt with were excellent. I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs a vet. The prices are VERY reasonable compared to other veterinary offices we have been to with our Frenchie. A+

Smith Vets has taken wonderful care of my dogs for over 15 years from routine care to specialized orthopedic surgery. They have always gone above and beyond to care for my dogs and came to know, and care for them, as individuals. Taking the time to know them as individuals translated to excellent care. By knowing them, the vets were able to more accurately diagnose the problems and come up with an individualized approach to care. Mike and Kathy Dobesh and Chris Anderson have been my primary vets - all very patient and kind vets. No 10 minute office visits with these vets - they are VERY thorough. Chris recently spent a great deal of time to research a rare condition affecting my Shar Pei. Being open on Saturdays and Sundays and weekday evenings is a real help too.

David Bulfer

I haven't seen the a vet there yet ... only bought prescription dog food. Seems like a decent vet hospital.

Guaiwu Yongshi

I came in with my two rats for a check up doctor liman was great answered all my questions.

Natascha Pang

This was the last time I'm going to this place. They are rude most of the time. Chris I don't let him touch my dogs anymore as he is ruff with my puppies and to top it of don't seem to care. This time I knock on the door at 6:02 to get shots for my puppy. A Jung guy answered, sure if you pay the after hour fee. I do understand policy as he referred to it very well. However following policy does not mean we need to be rude. It does not matter if you are loyal to them. This place is nothing but a disappointment. I kept going g to avoid having to take my dogs to differentiate places. This was the last time and if you care about your loved one. AVOID THIS PLACE

Geoff Webb

Very caring staff although your pet will disagree on principle

Michael Odza

Excellent care, separate entrances for cats and dogs.

Roger Frye

Several excellent vets for dogs and cats

Albert Chaiken

I have a very old, sick cat who had a stroke. Received excellent care from Drs. Trujillo and Smith, and have to echo other comments here about Dr. Trujillo's empathy. Doctors and staff were very good about keeping me up-to-date and returning phone calls, and provided comprehensive information and treatment options at all steps. Expensive, but you do get a commensurate level of care. And my cat is better!

Frank K

Consistently good service over many years. They never rush through an examination. Upfront with procedure cost without surprises.

Rich Taylor

Wow. Showed up on a Sunday. No appointment . I was seen in 15 minutes . Im very happy with this place. Kudos!

Today I went to Smith's veterinary hospital for my dog he had a swollen paw and I was very nervous about it getting worse. I took him in and we had a nurse named Abby she was extremely amazing and so nice and respectful she handled my dog with so much care! Then we met Doctor Chris Anderson he was amazing with my dog Sin!! My dog is very very high strong! Mr. Anderson was so patient with him and took extremely great care of him! They even worked with me on my bill!!!!!! I'm so thankful for them and that they took care and helped my baby!!! I will always bring my pets here!!! VERY PROFESSIONAL!!!!!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I took my rocky in this morning on 1/29/19 he was in really bad shape. All the staff are extremely gentle and caring .They did all they could to help my baby .They went over and beyond for me and my pup even though rocky wasn’t going to survive .this is the best place by far .This clinic deserves 20 stars .Thank you to all the staff

Charles Torres

Quality care for your pets!!!

Lisa Linch

When your dog is sick they tend to him immediately. No question is too stupid. They get how much u love your dog and do everything possible to help them. Also has hospital kust in case.

Jan Stanley

As I've said before the staff and doctors here are loving healers of both your pets and, emotionally, their humans. It's always a great and uplifting experience to come here and see love in action.

Janet Arrowsmith

Kind, efficient and thoughtful. Dr. Melissa Smith, Cynthia at the front desk - good, kind humans.

-.-

Convenient nice and friendly staff

Douglas Mallary

We wouldn't think of taking our pets anywhere else.

Mordechai Y. Scher

For the last 14 years, and multiple dogs/cats, our pets (and us) have been given the most incredible care, with competency, exceptional caring, and professional attention. Thanks for all you do and the trust we have in your skills!

Jennifer Trujillo

We took a puppy in that we knew was down from hypoglycemia. They recommend to euthanize it! This vet isn’t recommended for small puppies that need a quick life saving veterinarian.. so so sad. She’s up and healthy at the other vet we took her too! So thankful we didn’t leave her there!! Don’t go to this place if your puppy is down from hypoglycemia

Susan Watkins

Have never had a bad experience. Very caring, professional staff.

radiobot

I brought my dog in because she had an ear infection. The staff was very professional and took good care of my dog, even when my dog was wrestling them. (She hates strangers) I recommend going here.

Corey K

Superb experience time and again!

Friendly and the hours accommodate just about any schedule

Dave ALI

I like this vet but dread having to deal with the front desk staff. Today, after about 220 worth tests and meds for my two dogs I asked if they had given me a larger box of heart worm pills and if it was cheaper. No, they had given me two smaller boxes and it was $5 more expensive. The response was. "Do you really want to change this for $5" Yes, of course! (and you should have saved me the $5 to start with instead of my asking). The front desk staff always appears to have a lot of trouble driving the computer system and usually forgets that there's a customer on the other side of the desk.

Christina Feliz Martinez

Their care for my ferret surpassed any care I've received myself as a patient in a hospital. This visit was our first, but after today our other 4 animals will be seen only here at well. They staff is caring, attentive, professional, and they really know how to keep the animals and their humans calm and comfortable.

Brenda Wall

They are great and nice not to have to wait too long.

Kyle 218

I only bring my dogs here, caring staff and they work with you on your bill...

Linda K

Our 1 year old Beagle was in distress on a Sunday vomiting, gagging and gulping. We are from out of town and we’re staying in a RV Park just for the day. Smith Vet Clinic was a God send. First of all it was open on Sunday and then we got in to a Dr. within 30 minutes. Every office staff member and the Doctor were kind, caring and knowledgeable. Long story short we are back at the RV with her and she seems better and is on 3 meds. On our way to Durango tomorrow so we sure hope she is better.

Diana Abeyta

Good place to take your dog when healthcare is needed.

Claire Nixk

Dr. Mike was very kind and thorough and genuinely cared about my dog’s well-being. He is very considerate of both patient and owner and provides excellent information and treatment plan. The office staff is also very, very kind and easy to work with.

Sandi Wright

My dog was run over last Thursday. Jake survived thanks to help from Doctor Stuart.❤

Meredith Campbell

Best vet office I’ve taken any of my dogs to. They are friendly, I’ve never had to wait more than 5 minutes for my vet of choice, and all of the vets are thorough, knowledgeable, and kind to both pet and owner. The walk-in system and the fact they are open late (10pm some days) is an extra bonus for the busy pet owner. Best vet in Santa Fe.

Miklen Rykunyk

My visit to this clinic was just awful. I came in to have my cat treated and vaccinated. They mishandled my cat “Squeak” and he bit one of the techs because he was frightened. Animal control was called and now my kitty is in quarantine. Smith’s keeps saying that because the cat was not vaccinated and he bit the tech, he had to be put in quarantine. This is not the point. The point is that they mishandled my cat and this led to him biting the tech. I explained to animal control what happened and they just rolled their eyes. The owner of Desert Paws Animal Rescue offered to go to court with me to retrieve my expenses for the quarantine from Smith’s. He said that they should have never taken the cat away from me and given him the rabies shot with me there. He was dicussted by how poorly they handled my animal. Smith’s takes zero responsibility for the incident. I will be reporting Smith’s incompetence to anyone that will listen here in Santa Fe. On top of it all, they had the nerve to charge me for their screwup.

Kimberly Rash

The vets are good but they will not take appt. It is walk in only and I usually wait at least an hour for my pet to be seen. They always have a ridiculous wait time. It would be a much better place if they would take a appt.

Sharon N.

Everyone at this animal clinic is very caring, knowable, and professional. In the past four months we have had to put two pets down. They came to the house, sent cards, foot prints, and were so gentle. We can't say enough kind thinks about their care of our pets. SN

Bruce Bradford

Been here several times. Love that you just walk in, no appointment, open on Sunday!

Amanda Chavez

Wiah they took payments....tough to shell out alot $ for care...

Vallerie Martinez

They took great care of my Cat!

Angie Slingluff

We love Smith's Vets. They take good care of our fur babies!

Happylove701_ AJ

That treat my cat well and care for her

Felicia Bond

I'm new to Smith, and was happy with an extended exam and consult from Dr Diego Sanchez. He also spoke with me twice before I even took my cat in, was patient and a good listener. The office staff is not very professional or helpful, however, and most of them seem new to the job, so are unsure of how to proceed. At the very least they should show interest in doing their job and being upbeat while they learn. I've spoken with six office people and have had the same experience, so based on that I'm not sure I'll go back.

Melissa Salas

Mike Dobesh is a very helpful and knowledgeable Vet. Have been going to their office for many years. Goes out of his way to make sure we are taken care of. Prices have increased quite a bit however. Otherwise would be 6 stars!!

kushka 53

Knowledgeable, caring, staff - both up front in reception and behind the scenes with the vet techs and the vets. I recently moved to Santa Fe from New York and this place is far better than any I had back East. Prices are comparable. I'm impressed! Only thing, and this is a problems with most vets, there is no ongoing senior discount or disabled discount, which is a shame, because these groups have the most limited income of all...Also, not wild that they don't use the local, cheaper pet crematorium for customers but prefer instead to use one in Albuquerque because they get a commission for doing so!

Robert Payne

This Hospital is amazing, with great vets. I had the opportunity as a visitor to utilize, and although the outcome was not good they were pleasant , and understood my grief. Thank You Dr Chris Anderson !!!! You Guys rock!!!!!

Tom Tiegler

Dr. Mike Dobesh has cared for our families dogs for almost 20 years. He is professional and compassionate. We recommend him highly.

Tracey Janssen-Wilson

Everyone here is great. They are fast and friendly.

Rhonda Baquera

Dr. Smith provided excellent care and is very compassinate and truely caring. It is Wonder to find a vet who is so caring.

Gwen Wells

We've had wonderful experiences here. It's a huge advantage that they have lots of in-house capability we haven't found at other (more expensive) vets: ultrasound, certain blood work, etc. It's also great that they're an actual hospital, so that sick pets can be admitted for ongoing care. Their extended hours (including during the night and on weekends) have also saved our bacon on more then one occasion. Although they accept mostly walk-ins, we've been fortunate to work with one particular, especially conscientious and caring doctor ( Dr. Andrea Trujillo); this has been super helpful for continuity of treatment. A+ ratings from me (and, in response to the cranky reviewer, I am not an employee, but rather a grateful client).

ignacio dominguez

Friendly staff and great doctors. Cant imagine taking my dogs anywhere else.

Nancy Martinez

So great with all of my pets.

Rico D'Amore

On site blood screens, great imaging tech, diverse staff with a high cumulative number of years experience. I recommend.

Christopher Craig - Seawright

Caring staff and Doctor. Always welcoming.

M. V. Yzeta

Family owned for 3 generations, great service and Staff!

Elizabeth Guss

We have been using Smith Vet since 1992 -- for all our animals (ranging from dogs and cats to snakes, bearded dragons, guinea pigs, chickens... the WHOLE menagerie!). Without exception, the care our animals have received has been first rate -- compassionate, appropriate, conservative and EFFECTIVE. Kathy & Mike Dobesh (and team) have handled everything from vaccines to our Jack Russell's epilepsy to arranging a triple pelvic osteotomy for our Bernese Mountain Dog. They are AWESOME and there when we need them.

Joan Adams

Nice but expensive

Chuck Cobb

Rude old lady up front. Paid for my rottweiler tails to get cut last year came in today and it was a whopping $238. Place is a rip off and they have become money hungry. I will never go there ever again. Spend your money else where and she didn't give me my military discount again!

Sushmita Shrestha

I did not like this place at all!!! Here is my story: At first, they were really nice and gave a good service. I was getting a rabies vaccine for my cat and I asked two times about the cost of the vaccine. One time on the phone before my visit and another time I asked the doctor before giving my cat a vaccine. Both times they said $18. After my cat got the shot, they came to me and said it’s $30. I was in shock!!! Tried to talk to the doctor but she said that she “forgot about the price and gave a wrong info” lol How can a doctor forget about the cost? Such a money hungry animal hospital. PLEASE STAY OUT OF THIS PLACE IF YOU LIKE HONESTY FROM PEOPLE WHO GIVE YOU SERVICE. NEVER GO HERE IF YOU DON’T WANT THEM TO TAKE YOUR ADVANTAGE DURING YOUR VULNERABLE SITUATION.

Yolanda Cardenas

Amazing people... extremely kind to me as I put my Nalla to sleep of old age... she was 24 years old...

Michelle Bush

kind staff

Ziva Gunther

It's both strange and convenient that this place doesn't do appointments. But it's nice to be able to just show up when my pet needs the vet. The staff is very friendly, and they have a clean and professor office.

Tammie Montano

I took my dog in on a Friday afternoon very sick and the staff were all very nice and took him in to a exam room. When we were doing the exam the Dr. was great she knew what tests to run. The only problem I felt with them was when it came to saving my puppy's life they were VERY strict on how I was going to pay for my puppy to stay the night. When I asked what my options were for payment they told me you have to pay right now or we have a credit card you can apply for. In the mean time my kids are crying over our puppy thinking he was going to die right there. I didn't know what to do so I had to ask parents for their credit card. I thought they could have better payment options. I decided to call around and I found a Vet named Cottonwood Vet in Espanola and they took him with no problems and 1/4 of Smith's prices. I would recommend Cottonwood first.

Maria Markus

Moved from Flathead Valley MT nearly two years ago. We had the best vet in the valley. Dan Savage. After moving to Santa Fe with our Golden Retriever Ella (14) Mac and Candy the Maltese I came across Smith Veterinary. I am so happy with the kind staff and of course Dr. Mike. What a god send… They saved my Maltese "Mac"from food poisoning last year…Helped our Golden go into her Golden years, and took care of our baby Candy "The Maltese" teeth… I would go here before going anywhere...

Mike Cross

I took my dog here twice because they make a living being the only ones open. The first time, they couldn't tell me what was wrong after many x-rays and testing. They called it arthritis, took my $350 and sent me home. The second time, the injury that they didn't catch complicated so much, that we had to put our dog to sleep, pushing the bill in my face the entire time I was trying to say goodbye to my best friend. He could have gotten help that first time and lived many more years with a PROPER vet looking at him. They took $1000 to kill my dog and were happy to do it. I can't express my true feelings without getting my review deleted. Don't be fooled by THEIR EMPLOYEES leaving rave reviews all over the internet. These people suck.

Juno Parrenas

While on vacation in Santa Fe, our dog stepped on a little cactus buried under 6 inches of snow. We needed help from a vet to pull out a cactus thorn that we couldn’t get out. Two people were ahead of us and we were told it’ll be 20-30 minutes; we got seen in 16 minutes by Dr. Garcia who is an excellent vet: very caring and detailed. She pulled out 6 remaining thorns that we weren’t able to see. The price was extremely reasonable at a rate compared to our own vet in Ohio.

Karen Finley

What ever your needs are for your four legged family, this is one of the best places to get some help. Awesome! Awesome! Staff, fantastic doctor's who cares.

Sebastiano Gionfriddo

please stay away from this veterinary practice. greedy. manipulative. unintelligent practitioners. misdiagnosed my beloved dog with tests to the tune of over $1000. a second opinion by dr stan heyman of northside veterinarian for $85 was amazingly accurate. not only did dr heyman actually examine my pup, he totally zeroed in on the real problem. no tests. no x-rays. dr mike dobesh of smith veterinary hospital is an angry little man. save your $$$$, time, effort, patience and frustration. ***********STAY AWAY FROM SMITH VETERINARY HOSPITAL AT ALL COSTS*************

Ryan Jackson

Caring and extremely helpful. They will try to do the best for your pet

We were pleased with the care given our dog @ Smith Vet Clinic;our dog ate a chocolate bar on a sunday and we called Smith Vet for what to do; they had us come to Clinic/he was immediately seen in few minutes by Dr Martinson/treated and within 1/2 brought back out looking like his old self/we were very happy with the care she gave and the time Dr Martinson took to explain everything to us

Richard Lindsley

Great hours seven days a week and numerous doctors available for timely, friendly service.

Tia Gibson

Efficient, extremely friendly, excellent care with a lot of attention. Liked the atmosphere, the lay out and all the friendly staff. Dr Rodriguez took great care of us today. I don't live in Santa fe so read reviews and decided to try Smith Veterinary Hospital and I now have a place that I will use every time I come to town. Highly recommend.

Barbara Martinez

They were amazing with my two Chihuahua's didn't have to wait long at all for a walk in 15 minutes and they got us back with the Dr.

London Ashton

Dr. Mike is always so kind and pleasant to my

Michael van Eckhardt

Our first visit, as we just moved to town. We had no appointment, but had only a 10-minute wait for a non-emergency visit on a Sunday morning Cordial and efficient front office. Our vet was friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable about local conditions.

Kyle Tomadin

Friendly staff and they always get the job done.

F. Ellis-Beyer

Excellent small veterinary Hospital, with great service by doctors of vet medicine, technicians and staff, all of whom are very considerate of their clients and patients; great small hospital for emergency care, and it's open on Sundays!

Paul McQuaid

Best vet in town!

Ralph Bartlett

Only place to take your beloved pet after hours.

Warren Gatto

My dog ate rodenticide; that God I saw her. The people at Smith were wonderful. They took her in immediately, and saved her life. They were kind and compassionate. God bless them. They gave me good directions how to get there, and saved a life.

J Alt Romero

Prompt, attentive service during drop-in hours. Quality care from assorted vets and other staff over the years. Animal care is not cheap, but at Smith they sincerely try to help you prevent needless expense. I feel great about their expertise and the care they give all of my pets.

Amanda Taylor

My go to for my baby boy. The people there are genuine, sweet and really have helped me with emergencies. I will only take my poodle to Smith's. Highly recommend!!!!! Professional on all levels! No appt. needed, walk-ins only. So waiting should be expected, but worth it with the quailty of care recieved.

Kelly Bahr

My cat is feeling better, thanks to everyone at Smith's. He really likes Dr. Lyman, so we will be back to see her again.

dawn aley

Love you guys! Walk ins are welcome which is super important when you need to see a vet right away.

Johannah Toya

Smith vet hospital is the best!!

Gary Mihalik

Truly amazing veterinarians. Warm, caring atmosphere.

Asher Singer

It's amazing to get great doctors and a full service hospital without an appointment. The walk in service here is great. The friendly knowledgeable staff have helped me and my pets many times. These guys are the best!

Angel

Great place my pup got sick on me on Sunday my normal vet was closed but these wonderful people took in my pup and gave her the best care, they went above and beyond to send over everything they did for my pup to her regular vet. I very much appreciated the service I got my pup shes my baby and I don't know what I'd do if I lost her, they did an amazing job!!! Very clean and friendly!!!

Frederick Berend

Mixed experience. I have four dogs and a cat, and Smith did a good job in taking care of them with routine procedures. Their organisation and staff, though, deserve critique. When you come in with four dogs, and they tell you the waiting time is two hours, this is a difficult proposition. I tried to ask them on the phone for a bit of flexibility from their side to do things more efficiently. Their response - after having been put on hold several times, and then kicked out - was negative and, in addition to that, unfriendly. No flexibility, or interest in helping a customer. Obviously, they have enough business to afford losing clients. Fortunately, there are plenty of alternatives to turn to in Santa Fe. I hope their competitors will appreciate my business more than they did.

Lori Buvinghausen

We spend most of our time in Bosque Farms, so we usually take our dog to a vet down there, but several times we have had an emergency while here in Santa Fe. A judge I used to work for and dog sit for always took her dogs to Smith's. Knowing how particular she is about her dogs, I take mine to Smith's for emergencies. Each time, I have been thoroughly impressed by their staff at the front desk and by their very caring and knowledgeable vets. Highly recommend!!

Craig McGregor

They have taken care of our pets from health to inevitable death. The price is not on the low end but service and care is top notch. Dr Amy Land is our preferred vet and out of this world. Big thanks to this team for all you do.

roberto guimaraes

Dr Sanchez is not my regular veterinarian, yet he was able to sell me an eye ointment for my 15 year old dog without charging me for a consultation when every other clinic in Sfe that I called wanted to charge for a full consultation when I had the prescription from my regular vet. Thank you so much doctor Sanchez for being a TRUE PROFESSIONAL!!!

Hayley Waller

Smith's is the place to go when you dont wanna take any chances with your pet.

Katie Douthit

Dr. Was very nice and caring with my dog

Hannah B Santa Fe

They are great vets. I also appreciate the emergency hours.

Judy Tuwaletstiwa

Dr. Dobesh has treated our aged rez dogs with wonderful care and compassion.

Zoe Lipscomb

There are always good vets here that really care about your animals.

Madison Busi

Unreasonably expensive. I get it- you're in Santa Fe. But I'm not sure that justifies charging 4 times what CO, FL or KS has ever charged- for the same services.

Katherine Schilke

Love every aspect of this vets office...desk staff , vet technicians and of course the vets. Love the NO appointments walk in have a seat max 10 min wait and you and your pet are seen.

Amanda Martinez

Slightly expensive. Open on the weekends for walk-ins which is great for emergency situations.

angel G

Dr. Smith and the owner Kathy Doebesh abandoned my cat in the middle of treatment after I questioned the medication they prescribed. My cat reacted badly in the vets office and they still sent us home with the medicine even with the tech being uncomfortable administering it. Not to mention Dr. Smith, who wanted to run tests on my cat and wouldn't give her Antibiotics for the beginning stages of a severe upper respiratory infection in which my cat lost her voice. Even though we were seen two days prior, this vet insisted we come in a third time within a three day time period based on their incompetence. My cat was given Benadryl and some lame anti ulcer medication which seemed unrelated to symptoms my cat presented. When I finally got the antibiotics they were reluctant to provide them in the first place, giving only enough for five days. Then we ran out and had to get AB from another vet. This place should be shut down. The vindictive receptionists were horrible to deal with and couldn't get the proper message to the right doctor. To see their dishonesty and attacks on clients read below and on the BBB website. Animal owners beware: no accountability here because they are the only vet open 7 days a week and will threaten customers by denying your beloved family member treatment. Notice the owner only responds to good reviews.

Florence Romero

The Doctors and staff at Smith Veterinary Hospital are wonderful. They have taken care of all my dogs. Mike and Kathy Dobesh are so caring, compassionate and thorough in the care of my furry friends. I knew Kathy's grandfather, Father and they are the third generation of vets. You can't find a finer place for the care of your animals.

There very unorganized spoke with vet about medication for our cat we get there topuck up The medication and it is out of stock and on back order. I would not recommend bringing yourself cat. Other vets would be my suggestion. This place is horrible!

Doctor Stewart was so kind and caring. We have gone to Smith's Vet Since the 60's and she and the staff that were on the day we took our puppy in, were great and kind when we made the decision to put our puppy to sleep. We would never think of using another Vet. Hospital. Thank you Dr. Stewart and Staff.

I rescued a very sick 4 week old kitten who really had little chance to survive. I brought her to Smith's and she was given special formula and antibiotics . . One week later I frantically drove to their office but they were in the process of closing . . the receptionist came out to tell me where else to go but had a change of heart and took us in . .the Doctor was still there and took one look at the little kitten felt her heart and assisted her in passing with grace . . . I HIGHLY recommend Smith Veterinary for their kindness, compassion, and genuine concern for a furry friend. Thank you to the staff that was on Saturday, October 12th for taking care of us both . .. Smith Veterinary provides wonderful service to the animals. It is a great boon that they are open 7 days a week.

My 6 year old dog started staggering around like if he was drunk, throwing up yellow bile, and rejecting his food. To me, these were all signs of poisoning. I took my dog into Smiths Vets to find out what the problem was. Upon my arrival, I informed the Vet of his symptoms. I told her that I thought that my dog had been poisoned, and I requested that she draw blood from my dog, to determine if he had been poisoned. She told me that a blood test was not necessary. However, she did tell me that my dogs strange behavior was due to old age, and that he had a sore throat. So, she gave my dog a three prescriptions. One for his sore throat, one for any pain, and a antibiotic. I took my dog home and gave him the pills as prescribed. He continued to deteriorate, and I had to watch him suffer. 30 days later, he died from road deicer poisoning... To add insult to injury, they sent me a bill for well over $1000.00... Smiths does not care about your pet. All that they care about is the all mighty dollar. I highly recommend that you do not take your pets to these people. P.S. The only reason that I gave them one star, is because I am not allowed to post this warning without it...

Dr. Andrea Trujillo was truly wonderful! I had to put our sweet lil Sooty down and Dr. Trujillo was informative, patient, kind, empathetic, attentive, professional and we will be back with our pups to establish care with this clinic having moved here from Alb. last Sept. Thank you & many blessings xo

Troy Buchleiter

Compassionate, well-staffed veterinary hospital with after-hours emergency services and excellent diagnostic technology. Unfortunately, their professionalism is offset by some of the highest prices I have ever encountered for veterinary services. If cost is not a concern for you, I can offer my highest recommendation.

We were directed by Valley Vet Clinic to take our dog to Smith's after she ingested imodium tablets. Once there, she was seen immediately and was started on fluids and other medications to deal with situation. Dr. Trujillo contacted Animal Poison Hotline and got her stable. Due to it being the day before Thanksgiving they suggested the Emergency Clinic for overnight care. We found this clinic to be professional and very caring! We believe their immediate assistance saved our dog's life. Our only negative is that they are in Santa Fe and we are in Ojo Caliente! We will not hesitate to go there again! They even called to check on her! We only wish we had taken our dog who had pancreatitis to them. She just may have survived!

BEST Vet office. All the staff are friendly and helpful. Great hours and availability of different services and Veterinarians.

They have been nothing but helpful when Ive had emergencies with my cats. They have even gone so far as to not charge me for a checkup when I had a particularly expensive vet trip after my cat got bitten. The other reviews are correct, not the cheapest place in town. But amazing service, they will work with you on the cost, and you definitely get what you pay for!

Everyone there has been so great!

My pup got a deep laceration on her paw and they did a great job patching her up.

Amy Gail Williams

Grateful to have a place that will take you in anytime and not charge ER fees. Our dog split open his paw and required stitches. This is the second time this has occurred. Both times, we walk in, are seen in a decent time, and the problem is solved right then and there. Diego Sanchez took care of him last time, and I was very impressed. My dog has not once tried to take off the bandage and it is the best wrap job I have seen yet. Yes, vet bills are not fun. But without this service, it would have cost 3-5 times the amount just to use the emergency care. I don't have to schedule an appointment and they have done a thorough job each time I have used their service. They also send me invoices by email and have an app that I can keep track of things. All in all- my dog has healed and we can go on living our lives thanks to Smith Vet Hospital.

Jackie Utsey

Always super friendly and helpful. They really care about your pet!

Anna Chavez

Very caring and thorough. The Dr was very caring, and patiently answered all questions I had an overall sense of her (the dr) that my tiny baby girl was in the best hands. I brought my dog in (7pound chihuahua mix) was jumped by 3 dogs. The vet and staff took great care of my baby girl. I'm so thankful. -AC

I would definitely recommend this Veterinary Hospital, they surpassed my expectations and made a very freak shocking car vs pup injury less traumatic. Unfortunately my pup and I have had a lot of experiences with veterinarians in multiple states. We just moved to Santa Fe and my dog chased a cat into a busy intersection and was hit, Smith Veterinary was the closest hospital so on an impulse and now with gratitude I took her to Smiths Veterinary Hospital. As soon as we arrived they announced it over head and worked quick to get her back they continued to keep the communication lines open, we saw Dr. Trujillo within 15 minutes of arrival and she explained everything she wanted to do. She then came back and gave us the results and let us look at the xrays. She was very patient, compassionate and professional answered all our questions and remained involved in all our care. I was most grateful and appreciative that she let us see our pup before we had to leave her in the ICU over night and she let us come visit her in the morning. Dr. Trujillo followed up with us over the course of the day and she helped ensure we had a referral and there was concise communication on exactly what was to be done/ expected. The following morning after we got home we got a check up call and felt supportive and in good hands. Everyone was great at anticipating needs, communication and exceeding expectations.

Moldy Rabavvit

Incredibly kind, and very understanding employees. Very reliable for emergencies, especially considering it's open on Sundays. Everyone says it's a bit expensive, but it's better than having a sick puppy.

Expensive, but good

RUDE and MONEY HUNGRY is the simplistic way to explain what you will experience if you take your pets to this veterinary. They charged me $300 for a visit that literally took all of no more than 10 minutes AVOID taking your pets to this vet and ESPECIALLY steer clear of " Dr" Deaguero. This woman is extremely unprofessional, rude, insulting, hostile and difficult. She has absolutely no respect for customers, talks down to you as if your uneducated and has a major ego problem. This woman literally treats and acts as if you are her inferior when you are the paying customer. She started rasing her voice at me, called me irresponsible, refused to give my dog the medicine she needs in order to keep her alive, asked me to leave and not to mention refused to give me her name when I asked what her name was so I could file a complaint on her with the Smiths family. When I asked what her name was her response was " what is your name, I don't have to give you my name, what is your name ?!?" When they obviously already knew my name because they have me on file . She ran multiple unnecessary tests on my dog and not to mention the prices for the tests that they run at this vet are close too $100 per test. I was charged $ 100 just for a physical exam which is the simplest of exams and literally took her 1 minute to preform. Then I was charged an additional $ 50 for a blood pressure check which consisted of the nurse wrapping the band around my dogs leg waiting for one minute and then writing down the blood pressure results. This test literally took less than 5 mins and I was charged $50 for this. They also took a blood test for my dog in which I helped preform. I held my dogs arm and kept her calm and then had to hold her leg where she poked her with the needle after she was done. And they charged me $60 for a test in which I helped preform and that took again less than 5 minutes! This veterinary is EXTREMELY MONEY HUNGRY, they will run every test possible just to charge you as much as they can and ask you to come back weekly to keep preforming the same unnecessary tests to rack up yours costs! All my dog needed was a refill on her prescription in which she has been on for 2 years already and is blatantly obvious that she needs in order to survive, if not she is at serious health risk and can barley even walk. But every time you want a refill on your prescription they want to run every test in the book and then want to keep running these same unnecessary weekly to like I said keep racking up the costs rather just giving you a refill. They keep trying to take my dog off the medicine she needs in order to survive hoping she won't need it and then she gets sick again and then they want to start from the very beginning over and over to keep running tests that have the same result everytime , WHICH IS THAT SHE NEEDS THE MEDICINE IN ORDER TO SURVIVE! They keep running tests to see if she needs the medicine when it is obvious already after 2 years if she's not on this medicine she is at serious health risk.

Seriously, no other veterinarian's compare to Smith's. If you have problems and concerns they treat you like family. We have had cat's and dogs cared by Smith's, the latest, Dr. Sanchez is a beautiful vet. I can't recommend them higher and saddened that I can't recall all the vets who have cared for our family.

Barbara Moulton

This is where I take my dog, and know she will be well cared for.

Mary Edmondson

I took my chihuahua to Smith Clinic tonight and the did a good job with my animal as usual. I expected to take a taxi or Uber or hotel transportation back to Loretta Spa. None of those sources would help me. The secretary was nice enough to take me back to the hotel. Thank you so much for everything.

Lori Krenc

They take excellent care of my 17-year-old cat. I love that you can just pop by and don't need an appointment.

SusanMary Unk

The Vet was superb and the staff are caring.

Dr. Brear on the cat hospital side is terrific. She helped me with my cats immunizations. She also is helping me with my oldest cat be as comfortable as possible through his end stage of lung cancer. She was really professional and warm, a difficult line to walk and she did it well, when they first found the tumor on the x-ray. I would recommend going to Smith to everyone. And they don't need appointments!

Polly Rudolph

Great vet physicians and all the staff loves your animals, what a comfort that was for me and my poodle shadow
