Great care for my dogs. Good info on problems & treatment.

Greysen Davis

They were extremely nice and helpful. Very informative and I greatly appreciate all they did to help me with little baby dog. The people there were very straight forward about everything that could happen and explaining all the fees.

Krystal russell

Monica is very rude, at a difficult time for my mom she made it much worse. She was hateful and made her cry even more after a tough day with her dog who died later that evening. We will not ever do business here again. From a family who raises cattle, horses and plenty of other animals, I will never recommend this place to any friend or family member of mine.

Horrible experience. My dog went in with an ear laceration and waited an hour to even be seen. They sedated him to stitch his ear back together. They bandaged his head extremely tight and did not even clean around his wound. When had to take him back because he was suffocating from how tight his bandages were. The doctor was very rude and did not even want to see my dog. They were refusing to check his bandages unless we paid an unreasonable fee. They had me remove the bandages myself with scissors they handed me. So unprofessional and heartless. I would give zero starts if possible. I highly encourage you take your pet to a better veterinarian. The service at this place was absolutely atrocious.

Took in our 12 year old "new" pup who twisted his back. They were great and very helpful

I went to emergency clinic today with dying goat. Vet refused even to look at her. They gave me 2 numbers of emergency vet mobile, and no answered. It was 8:30 pm. We have to take goat back in the trunk of a car and let her die naturally suffering all night. I hate this clinic now! These vet doctor have no right to be called doctors, if they can help! God forbid to get inti their care! I will write an article about it for local newspapers!

Dr. Dougherty saved our sweet boy’s life after he was bit by a rattlesnake. We didn’t see the bite because it was behind a bush a few feet off the property at the Airbnb we were staying at. Our boy was in such distress. We found this place and rushed him there immediately. Dr. Dougherty ran a test to confirm it was a snake bite and then immediately started to administer antivenin. She updated us throughout the night. Our boy survived and in the morning he was transferred to Smith to receive continuing care. It took him 3 weeks to fully recover because he became extremely anemic, almost requiring a blood transfusion. Today he is back home in Denver climbing 14ers and stronger than ever just a month after the tragedy. I am convinced that if we had made it to the Emergency Clinic any later he may not have survived

Pros: We brought our dog here because our vet wasn't open. They were polite at the front desk and helped us carry our dog in. The doc asked before he performed every test and told us the cost. We could tell he actually cared. Cons: They don't really have 24 hour capabilities and like every hospital- understaffed. If you have an animal who will make it to ABQ- bring them to VCA. You will pay the same amount and your dog will be able to be seen by specialty doctors if needed.

A wonderful job to Drs Schwarz and Freeman. The surgery to repair my dog’s Achilles’ tendon was successful and the nine weeks of splint changing and post op procedures went without a hitch. Thanks to all the office staff and vet techs for their help getting Maggie in an out of the car, and patience with my work schedule. A very professional staff that always answered questions gave DETAILED information before surgery and post op. I would highly recommend these skilled Veterinarians for any surgical procedure for your pet.

Wonderful caring service.

I wish I could give them a better review but the kindness of the staff was offset by the lack of communication. Results that were supposed to take 1/2 hour took 1 1/2. A plan to give our kitty a shot and release him turned onto another 2hour wait. We were not warned about the price of several of the tests and got a nasty surprise at the end of our way too long visit. I am happy that this emergency vet is here but would have given them a better review if they had just communicated more clearly and honestly about the time it would take and how much it would cost. I might have chosen to do it all anyway but all this waiting with no communication was just excruciating. Ok - I get there might be an emergency that took prescedence but TELL me instead of making wait for hours and wonder. Other than that the staff are lovely and the clinic clean and modern. I will use then again if I need them but ask better questions.

I brought my cat in on New Years Eve day for an abcess on his chin and left with a $298.77 total bill and 9 syringes of a narcotic for pain relief, at $35. Before performing any of the procedures I was not given an estimate of cost, nor did i get an itemized statement of the costs before they billed my card. When they gave me the medications they only said to give one med twice a day and the other every 8 to 12 hours for pain as needed. When I read the bill in the car I found out how much they rip you off for medications... 3 times the price for the same thing at my vet. The pain medication, which I thought was a much milder drug, til I googled it and found out it was a narcotic. They did not tell me what kind of pain med they were prescribing my cat. My cat didn't need that strong of a pain med, and if I had been told it was a narcotic I would have refused it! The actual care was ok, but the cost is outrageous and the not letting you know what the costs are before doing procedures is unacceptable! Pick a different emergency vet in Santa Fe!

Dalas Perraglio

Nice and courtesy staff. Very helpful and warm greetings. Only thing is the cost, unless your animal is indeed having an extreme medical emergency I would not go here.

Claudia Mardel

Thank you everyone at the Emergency Clinic. You guys are so dedicated! You work long hours and are staying friendly through all of it - the hardships, the worries, the hope, the basics... You answered all the questions I had during the day when I checked in and when I picked up our cat. I see the many cases you treat during the day and night. I don't know how you do what you do but I thank you with all my heart. Incredible vet, Dr. Anita (omg I don't have your last name right now), amazing staff, Nick and the girls (whose name I also don't have) at the desk. Thank you.

Very bad service,my dog got worst in that place

Andrea V

Kind and knowledgeable staff. They are there when you need them. It is a great place to go during those tough times when an emergency arises.

Matthew Wallace

I've used this emergency clinic a few times of the years and the staff is always courteous and attentive.

Joy Trujillo

This place is a huge joke. The ladies at the front desk are rude, and lack compassion and a heart! They should not be in this line of work with the bad attitudes they have. Leona,so she said was her name, is one of the rudest, coldest people I have ever encountered! Leona.. people who come to this clinic are very distraught ! Have a heart, you are horrible! All this place care about is money, not sick animals. I pray I never have to return here again. Smiths vet is the best, they truly care about animals and are kind and caring. Shame on all of you at the emergency clinic , you are greedy and cold!

This clinic could not have been any more kind and caring in how they handled a very difficult sudden passing of my cat yesterday. We brought him in with serious breathing problems, and they promptly x-rayed him and said he was in congestive heart failure and close to cardiac arrest. They said the best thing would be to put him down. It was all happening so fast, but they gave us time and space to be with him for a bit, after they gave him oxygen and an IV, and then respectfully and kindly helped him pass, all while I was holding him on the table. When I said I wanted to take him home to bury him, the took him and wrapped him up beautifully, and then made a clay impression of his paw print with his name on it. Whatever these other reviewers experienced, these people made a very difficult and painful time easier for us with their kindness and attention to what we needed to deal with my cats passing.

This is a euthanasiation clinic, they’re not interested in helping minor emergencies. We brought our one year old pup in with a 3-4 in laceration on her leg at 11:00 AM and decided to take her to a different vet at 6:00 PM when she still hadn’t been seen. I’m not normally the type to leave a bad review but our poor dog sat in pain and afraid for 7 hours! I hope no one else has to go through this

Lauren Pearce

The majority of the reviews here are not fair. It's expensive to keep a place open with a minimum of a vet and two techs on the clock during a time period when you only see a handful of patients. And yes, service may be poor. That's because the "secretary" is a vet tech and her priority may be a patient, not you. I brought my dog in with a very large gash (about 1 inch wide and 4 inches long) in his side going down to his abdomen. He left with 10 staples and 4 sutures. They were completely transparent with what was going to happen and how much it was going to cost. And yes, it cost about 50% more than it would have at my local vet, but that's the cost of on demand after hours care.

Mary Boudreau

we were treated very well, the clinic is beautiful and clean. The staff very nice and caring, I expected to pay and luckily I had a couple good days at work. I am just grateful they are close by, open all the time and have caring, doctors on staff. My dog was fine, but I didn't know that, I had all the blood work done and now have a baseline for her ongoing care. ( hope there isn't much ) I don't know what people do if they don't have the money. must be awful. The doctor was thorough, caring, conscientious, and capable. I'm just glad someone is open 24 hours. It took a long time, but I expect to wait.

Poor service and rip off

Dr Diaz and her team have done a remarkably competent and compassionate job for my border collie/terrier Wasabi, who contracted an extensive skin infection covering her entire back and neck - I work in (human) emergency medicine, and was thoroughly impressed with their care!!

Took our pup in and they were amazing. Answered all our questions and checked him out real good. Little guy is already doing better. For an emergency vet after hours, the prices were very reasonable and they did not try to push any procedures, etc on us. Hopefully don't ever have to return again, but if another pet emergency does come up I know where to go.

Nichole Ritchie

Sure they'll take your animal in and treat it, but then they'll charge you an arm and a leg, the send you to some other high priced vet. So they can charge the he'll out of you. When all your animal needed was pepto and Pedialyte. A 10 dollar fix that's now cost 3 thousand dollars. Only thing this place is good for is if your animal gets hit by car, sometimes not even then.

I had a HORRIBLE experience at this place tonight. I rushed my cat to this place due to difficult breathing. The receptionist Stephanie was sweet and caring. But the vet I had was the most insensitive, uncaring person I've ever dealt with in all my years taking animals to the vet. She basically told me I could run $1000 worth of tests to determine whether my cat had pneumonia (treatable) or heart failure. But she could not give me any clear answer as to what these tests would confirm. I literally had to decide whether I would euthanize my cat (if heart failure) or treat him for pneumonia. I kept trying to get some sort of clarity on what these tests would even tell me and all she basically said was they might or might not. I had NO idea what to do with such vague answers and she got visibly irritated with me. This was a LIFE OR DEATH decision for my cat but apparently I was expected to snap to a decision because she had "another patient waiting for her". It was only because of Stephanie that I got more clarity explained to me to make the awful decision to euthanize my sweet cat tonight. And this vet handled that terribly as well. She didn't even give him enough of a sedative to calm him down and expected me to say goodbye to him while he was freaked out of his mind!!!! I have put many pets down in my life and have NEVER experienced it like this. Dr. Dougherty seemed inexperienced and had ZERO compassion. My cats eyes were wide open as she was euthanizing him. I asked if we could close them. She said no. The vet tech did it after she left. No???? She clearly didn't even want to deal with my cat. What an AWFUL EXPERIENCE!!!!

I took my precious lab/pitbull mix, Bailey, to the Santa Fe Emergency Clinic because she was having difficulty breathing. After giving consent for an x-ray the veterinarian, Brent Megarry, told me she had lung cancer. It was so bad my husband and I decided to let her go and not suffer any more. Dr. Megarry told me he would give me a clay paw print. When I went to pick up her cremains yesterday, I was told they could not find her paw print. This is very heartbreaking for us. Also, the Albuquerque Pet Services had spelled her name wrong on the Certificate of Cremation. At this point I thought maybe due to the incorrect spelling of the name that her paw print might have been misplaced, however, when I called the clinic this morning, I was told the box for requesting a paw print on the consent form was not checked. It seems that the vet would have made sure to tell his staff after promising me he would get a paw print, to make sure and get one, especially when I was overwhelmed with grief Now it will never happen. I am giving a poor rating due to the extra grief this has caused us. I do want to say I am appreciative to have an option for an emergency clinic for over night hours.

Susan Mcclintock

We appreciated the attention we and our dog were given. Everyone was professional and competent and also compassionate and understanding. Just what you need in an emergency situation.

I took my small poodle Zoey in to the clinic because of a level 2 laceration from a dog bite. Dr. Erin Smith and all of the staff were just wonderful and caring. They cleaned the wound, placed a drain because of accumulated fluid, and stitched her up. We were sent home with detailed instructions for wound and drain care, as well as an antibiotic and two kinds of pain medications to keep my Zoey comfortable. They answered every question I had. I can not speak highly enough of their care and concern for my little Zoey.

David Garcia

My dog had ate a decent amount of chocolate, my small nephews had left on the floor. After throwing up I decided to take her to this place- one look and the vet said she had to stay overnight for medical attention. About 45 minutes later we get a call from the vet stating they have put her down due to her suffering. We didn't want our dog to suffer so we agreed, they needed our consent to kill her, it was the most painfull decision we had to make- Was later stuck with a bill, that could of cost me the same to treat her. Yeah my dog was in a bad condition, but I had friends say they have been in the same situation and their dog survived -Avoid this Doggy Hell.

Melody Smith

Being an emergency room, no appointment is necessary and there will be a wait as they are busy! And that’s perfectly normal. They took great care of our elderly cat! Everyone, from the front desk to the dr and techs, were all very sweet and took the time to answer all our questions and address our concerns. It’s never easy to have to wait when your loved one is in pain or distress, but they do take great care of them.

Jake

Would give 0 stars if that was possible! I knew exactly what surgery my cat needed and called and spoke with the receptionist to see if this work could be performed that day on my cat. The receptionist put me on hold and checked. A few minutes later the receptionist came back on the line and told me yes, there was a surgeon to complete the surgery there that day. I brought my cat in shortly after that, racked up an office visit and an IV and was informed that there was no surgeon on for the weekend. Wasted over $100 on the visit and IV and wasted valuable time to treat my cat. This business operates extremely unethically and will tell you whatever you need to hear to bring your animal in. I have no doubt the care would have been equally poor. Beware of this company!

Amanda Garcia

I will not recommend this place to anyone. Make every effort to contact your veterinarian first. This place is a joke when it comes to caring for pets. The front desk members are rude and unprofessional, the technician and veterinarians are there to collect as much as they possibly can for pets in need. For your pet to be seen expect to pay $200 and the cost continues to go up from there. This place is obviously in business to rip people off. Build rapport with your veterinarian to avoid this place at all costs.

It is with regret that I am giving the Santa Fe Emergency Clinic a bad review but it is an honest review. In previous years I have had excellent service there. I'm not sure what has happened but this year my experience was a frightening nightmare. Tonight I found a foxtail embedded in my dog's paw and called the Emergency Clinic to see if it could be removed by a surgeon. The person who answered the phone told me to pull it out myself. When I challenged her on what she said to do she told me: "I don't know what foxtail is, I just moved here from Texas." What animal clinic, much less an emergency animal clinic, would allow someone unqualified to give advice on how to treat what could be an emergency situation? I then asked to speak with one of the vets and finally was connected to a vet tech who was also unhelpful and seemed to have little concern about the possible problems with a foxtail embedded in a dog's foot. When pressed about what they would do if I brought my dog in for treatment the vet tech said they would try to pull it out. Again I was shocked because the foxtail is deeply embedded and "pulling it out" would leave part of the foxtail in the paw to do more damage. By this time I was actually afraid to take my dog to the Clinic. I have chosen to wait until my regular vet opens because I feel that having the foxtail in my dog's paw another day is less dangerous than taking her to a clinic where they lack either knowledge or concern about the damage it can do. Before this horrific experience I would have given the clinic 5 Stars. I urge the management and ownership of the Santa Fe Emergency Clinic to fix whatever has caused the drastic decline in their service. It was not this way last year nor all the previous years I used their services.

Dr. Smith is amazing and has a huge heart. We recently had our senior dog who became gravely ill late at night on a weekend night. We were so happy that there was a clinic open for emergencies and Dr Erin Smith went well beyond the call of duty to ensure our final hours with our beloved family pet were loving and peaceful. The staff here was so kind to us when we needed it most.

I took my dog to these people with a ruptured anal gland... They told me that there was nothing that they could do for her... Charged me 70 dollars, and sent me packing....

Angela Gabriel

My husband took our kitten one night for some very specific symptoms. Three hours and over $100 later he left after being told there was nothing wrong with her. The next morning her symptoms had worsened and I took her to a different vet. This other vet gave us a Rx and some additional recommendations that worked. I called Santa Fe Animal Emergency Clinic and argued with the doctor, who adamantly said there was nothing wrong with our kitten. Then I called the business office and they acted as if they were going to help me. I never received a return call, even after I called and left the messages. I'm so disgusted with the service received at this business! absolutely terrible.

Susan Chambers-Otero

Our dog had an emergency two weekends in a row at this clinic. The front staff very inexperienced and not warm nor knowing how to reassure or comfort people or animals. A very strange detachment personally and while executed the tasks of healing offered nothing else.

My heartfelt thanks to Dr Diaz and the staff They truly are there when u need them. We’re attentive, caring, and professional. No one likes going with your beloved pet to the ER, but these folks are good and know what to do. Thanks again for your wonderful care of Maggie. Woof

Gail Zanger

Horrific experience. We asked to speak the vet first and we were told if we did not agree to X-rays they would not see our dog. Our dog was having breathing issues. The Vet Sharon would not speak to us until after she saw our dog. We feel that was not professional. Then after the X-rays she gave us 3 options of 400 dollars to 1500 , and she had no clue what was wrong with our dog. My smarts told the husband we would go to our regular vet on Monday. UGH. Only the receptionist is nice. Vet not professional and we were not happy.

robert coates

Truly bad. I wrote a complete review but it got lost. They play a game with scare tactics to charge as much as possible. Refuse to do anything without money (a lot) in hand. Screw these a-holes.
