My name is Lynn Ford, and my husband and I and our kitty Louie were recently visiting the Santa Fe area. Louie was having some distress and we found good things that had been said about Dr Heyman's clinic here. We called and they were able to get us in quickly. Dr. H was great, informative and obviously very experienced. He told us of an additional condition that we also needed to be treating Louie for and the treatment has been very successful. A really good experience! Thank you!
My fiance and I got our dog just under a year ago as an 8 week old puppy. He was our first puppy, so tiny and vulnerable, we were terrified about him getting hurt from all of the flora and fauna around Santa Fe (we're not from the US) so we picked Northside based on reviews and how close it was to our home... speedy drive in an emergency! When I went to register & make an appointment (before we collected our puppy), the staff were very kind and polite and they lady scheduling the appointment seemed as excited as I was to meet the puppy! During our first check-up, Stan (the vet) was brilliant. He gave us loads of advice, put our minds at ease and dealt with our puppy as if he were his own. Fast-forward 10 months and our dog has been to Stan and his team a few times for unscheduled visits - hurt his leg, dental work etc. The entire team - receptionist, vet's assistant and Stan the vet - always treat our dog like their own - with love - and they are always pleased to see him, always supportive, and regularly provide us with good advice about his health and nutrition. Stan really knows his stuff. If you were to ask my dog, "Where's Stan?" he runs to the front door. When we get to Northside, he's desperate to get in and see the team. I think that says it all.
I knew my dog would be needing dental when I arrived. Dr. Heyman and his staff are so wonderful! They took great care of my baby and now he has great looking teeth. I'm sorry some others didn't have the experience I had, but in my opinion, Dr. Heyman and his staff are the best.
Dr Stan Heyman is knowledgeable, kind and takes his time. I love that about him. He gets to the bottom of your pet's complaint and finishes seeing you before dealing with other patients. Very kool beans.
From nail trims to surgery, Dr. Heyman and the staff of the Northside Veterinary Clinic have taken professional, kind, and gentle care of our elderly dog. Expert care was provided to our dog to get him on the road to a healthy recovery. Dr. Heyman took only one necessary lab test, showed me the results and where my dog fell within the normal ranges. When a surgical procedure was required, Dr. Heyman and his staff took all necessary precautions to ensure that our dog safely underwent the surgery, came out of the anesthesia rapidly. Medication was given to prevent possible post-surgery infection. We were sent home with clear and reasonable care instructions and urged to call with any questions. I highly recommend the Northside Clinic for your pet.
Very kind and empathetic.
I just adopted my dog flex. The doctor was great with him! He was kind and gentle even though my dog is a beast ;-)! I couldn't ask for a better vet for my dog.
Very professional veterinarian clinic. Definitely 5 stars. They answered all my questions. Everything also looks nice clean. The staff here are very polite, they made me feel welcomed.
Compassionate care from an experienced doctor who takes the time to explain what’s going on. I never feel pressured into doing unnecessary procedures.
Dr. Heyman saved the life of our 9 year old pit mix by removing a 2lb tumor from her breast. His work is clean, he is empathetic, and his staff is kind. We are very grateful for Northside Veterinary and we would recommend Dr. Heyman to anyone who is looking for quality help for their furry friends.
I honestly wish I could give this place zero stars. I hate to be this way but I think other people should know so that this doesn't happen to them. After doing lots of research online to find a trustworthy vet I decided to try this place as Dr. Heyman has over 30 years of experience and had great ratings online. I went to the first appointment for him to examine my dog and talk about/schedule a surgical procedure she needed on her feet. (She has the same recurring problem with a tumor on her foot, so I have experience with this). I asked him if he can give me an estimate of the cost and he said I can give you a range..."$300-$500 without complications". This was steeper than what I have paid before but this is a different region and Santa Fe is more expensive. I agreed and on we went. The day of her appointment, I picked her up and the tech handed me a bill of $909.83!!!! This was nearly double the top number that he quoted, no communication with me about anything that would increase the agreed to amount. When I asked him why it was steeper he mumbled "this paw and that paw"....? That's what we already talked about when you quoted me the range. I have been so angry about this i even reported it to the Better Business Bureau, which I've never done before. Northside or Dr. Heyman have yet to respond. They were supposed to respond within 2 Business days. Long story short, I don't know who is writing their reviews online but from personal experience, this vet is a crook. He's impersonal, dishonest, and will take all of your hard-earned money with no qualms about it.
Dr Heyman and his staff were so respectful of my sick dog (as opposed to the first vet hospital I went to that week). I cannot thank them enough.
Having lived in Santa Fe for thirty years and having dogs and horses all of my life, having a good vet is a treasure. Being good or even great in their knowledge is definitely the most important aspect of course, however them having integrity is also essential. Today, very sadly, the business of being a vet, especially a small animal vet - for the most part has given way to corporate greed. Too many vets have huge bills (of their choosing) and so perform far too many unnecessary surgeries, prescribe too many chemical prescriptions and vaccinate to hell and back by guilting the pet's owner. I've watched small practices go from the personal, reliable, ethical and of course good\great vets doing the right thing, to vets that have sold their soul to big money. It is exactly this reason I have given up on these frauds and instead choose to use Dr. Stan Heyman. He's old school, and loves animals - and of course has taken great care of all of my dogs over the years.
Very friendly staff and Vet. They aways listen and communicate about your concerns even if your pet is just there for a check up.
I've been to a few veterinary clinics over the years, but nothing ever stuck. After doing a bit of research and a couple visits, I can safely say that I found my new favorite Vet. I met with a different doctor on each visit. Both were very knowledgeable and gentle with my little chihuahua mix. I ended up bringing my guy in for some dental work. Dr Heyman and his staff made me and Neko feel safe and at home. I am a very worried and concerned dog mom. I stayed through the procedure just in case there were any hiccups. Dr. Heyman and his staff let me stay with Neko until the procedure began. They gave me regular updates while I was waiting and let me wake him up when the time came. They kept me informed on everything they did and why they did it. I would recommend these warm animal loving people to anyone with fury friends.
We took our Cairn Terrier in to Northside Veterinary Clinic for dental work. Dr. Heyman was personable and compassionate and did an outstanding job cleaning and cauterizing his gums.
My dog loved Dr. Heyman and his assistants. It is a small practice, where he is the only vet, which I think is very nice so that he can get to know your pet. This is unlike other places in town that I have gone to that have several vets that tend to fill in for each other at the last minute, even if you specifically ask for one vet. He was very knowledgeable about issues that pertain to the landscape of Santa Fe that can affect your dog, like allergens in the dirt and cacti that can cause irritation. I highly recommend Northside Veterinary Clinic.
Recently, we moved to Santa Fe from New Hampshire. We were warmly welcomed to Northside Veterinary Clinic by Dr. Heyman and his assistant. Dr. Heyman spent an hour with us on our first visit, hearing our concerns about our dog Milo's medication, taking time to examine Milo and review his situation, and giving us advice on what to expect due to the change in environment. He gave us a realistic picture of how to work with problems chronic to NH (fleas/ticks) now that we are in a much dryer place. Meanwhile, Milo enjoyed his office visit. The gentle treatment given to this sometimes anxious dog during examination stands out to me. Milo felt very much at home. While we received practical advice from the veterinarian, Milo explored the examining room (even ranging his exploration into the doctor's office). We will be happily returning to Northside Veterinary Clinic.
Dr Stan gives personal and wonderful care in a calm clinic.
We had our first visit with Dr. Heyman today. We found him to be extremely knowledgeable, gentle, compassionate and personable. His assistants, Anita and Karen, were great. Best of all, our cat, Alfie, was calm and comfortable in the doctor's care during and after his well-care visit and shots. And so were we!
We just moved to town and needed to establish veterinary care. What caring and kind people! The dogs got many pets and treats in addition to thorough care. I’m so glad we found Northside Vet!!
Don't look any further! I've been taking my pets to the Vet for 40+ years. Dr. Heyman was the best so far. He knew exactly what he was doing and was very personable with the humans as well. You gotta go here!!
I visited this clinic to get 2nd opinion regarding my dog, who suffers from very serious condition. The office was very comfortable and my reception into the office was friendly and compassionate. Upon being seen, the Vet did not introduce himself, reviewed all past records briefly focusing on only one post surgery document, and did not attempt any treatment (not even weight or V/S). He recommended I see my dog's specialist, and that was the visit. His advice costed me $80. I felt completely taken advantage of. This was the most expensive advice that I ever paid for. I will never go back to this Vet again.
Dr. Stan is awesome! My mother and I are new in town and have so far taken two animals to him (we have 5 between the two dogs of us). One is a 17yr old black cat and he never lost his patience when she decided that her patience had run thin. His staff is sweet and very helpful. Also, the cherry on top is that his prices are very reasonable.
Nice to have a place to go when my cat needed help. Dr. Heyman and his staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They helped my 15 years old cat to the best even called and asked us to take our cat back to make sure that nothing has gone wrong. They spent extra times with us at no additional cost to us. Thanks for that. I am recommended Northside Veterinary Clinic to every pet owners.
Awesome vet office
I take my 2 old dogs to Dr. Heyman. He's the kind of vet I've been looking for for years -- compassionate, yet honest. He's never tried to sell me something the dogs don't need, or overcharge me. He doesn't talk like other vets I've had, with a lot of jargon that I can't follow. He "tells it like it is," but in a very kind and understanding way. My 3-pound, 12-year-old Chihuahua had (almost all of) her teeth removed, and she was totally fine. In fact, when I've taken her back to Dr. Heyman, she wags her tail! Everyone who works in the office is super nice and efficient too. Super convenient location, too, and definitely reasonable rates. I don't know what I'll do if/when Dr. Heyman retires.
Dr.Heyman and his staff care deeply about their patients, provide excellent care, and take time to explain clearly the proposed treatment as well as appropriate after-care.
Northside Veterinarian is amazing with your animals I recently had to put one of my dog's down because of an injury I can't begin to tell you how much compassion his staff and himself have for my German Shepherd before she passed away the staff actually said a prayer for her put her picture up on a board and showed so much compassion towards me and my husband over our loss I love this place thank you Stan and Anita
Great older experienced vet and is very personable.
Stan Heyman is a compassionate, competent and gentle vet. His practice is obviously rooted in a love of animals and a respect for the unique, powerful relationship between an animal and its owner. Our family has been cared for by Stan on two occasions of needing to put our cats to sleep, and he truly brought a healing and spiritual energy to these passings. I can't recommend Stan and his practice highly enough.
NIGHTMARE - BEWARE Dr. Heyman butchered my 11 year old akita during a routine tumor de-bulking procedure, calling me during the surgery to ask whether I wanted to amputate his leg or euthanize him. When I expressed my dismay that the surgery had gone so horribly awry, he responded that my dog was "going to die anyway." During this conversation, he also stated that he would not be charging me for the surgery. However, I insisted that he sew my dog back together so that I could bring him home. When I arrived to pick him up, Dr. Heyman changed his mind and charged me anyway. He has zero compassion for animals and their pain - he sent me home with 3 tramadol for a hundred pound akita who was hemorrhaging and could not stand on his own. His compassion extended no further than to offer me a few trash bags so that the blood my unbandaged dog was gushing didn't ruin the interior of my car. Dr. Heyman is incompetent and should not be practicing medicine. I warn against trusting any animal to his care let alone your most beloved companion. Go to Gruda - he saved my dog's life. Turns out he didn't need to lose a leg or be put down after all ...
Not only is Dr. Heyman a good vet but he is supported by Anita, an excellent vet tech! They're caring and responsive.
I brought my 15 year old sweet cat to see Dr. Heyman today for the first time since moving to Santa Fe less than two weeks ago. He had received records from my previous vet's office, but proceeded to ask many pertinent questions and treat my cat compassionately. As a senior cat, he has an ongoing problem that can't be solved, but can be treated to make him more comfortable . He has a cyst that would be operable if he were younger, but by aspirating the excess fluid, kitty is all good for a couple of weeks. I highly recommend Dr. Heyman to anyone who cares about personalized treatment for their fur baby. Also - Bobbie- is an incredible asset to this veterinary practice!
Stan is the real deal. My dogs are my children, and Stan has the utmost respect for them. Ever feel like a veterinarian doesn't listen and just wants to sell sell sell? That is not going to happen here. Stan listens in a holistic way to all symptoms and truly cares about the animal's well being. He does not over prescribe. Stan also cares about humans! We felt welcome and seen. Finding a good vet you can trust is priceless and I am so grateful for him and his staff.
