Great place, great staff.

Friendly staff and doctors, but $350 for stitches and $90 just to take a look at a cyst seemed a bit excessive.

I have been a client of Canyon Crossroads Animal Hospital. The WHOLE staff is AWESOME. They are friendly, compassionate, and always willing to help. I could never find a better doctor than Dr. Janeen Counts. She has a magic wand for diagnosis, and she is always right the first time. Dina, Karen Jeanna and specially super sweet Shantel are the front office superstar. They make you feel welcome, and cared for, and did I mentioned that they all are AWESOME?

We have been customers for about 30 years at Canyon Crossroads in Tijeras. What used to be a great, quality Vet hospital has turned into a random selection of Vet student doctors and guessing at what is wrong with our pets. Prices have always been high here but the convenience of the location was important. For many years we have dealt with inexperienced vet staff and huge gouging of prices, misquoted costs from the front office and then a much different price when checking out. We have FINALLY given up and decided to change vets and this is after 30 years of multiple occurrences of mis-diagnosis and exorbitant costs of 4 different pets. Good riddance!

We've been very happy with the care our animals have received here and the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. I like that they seem to stay up to date with new information in their field and they're personable with our animals and kind with our family. Their specific knowledge and resources for animals in the East Mountains is invaluable.

I've always had a great experience bringing my pets here. In the past they have helped me with a rat terrier, a chihuahua, and my cat. They also cremated the two little dogs and were very supportive and empathetic. Now we bring both of our English Mastiffs in to them and they (our Mastiffs) love to go! They've been accommodating when we have to have walk ins and they always have a slot for us within a reasonable amount of time when we call for appointments. Every person I've had contact with has been polite and professional. I've never had a bad experience with these folks. They will be our Vet of choice for the foreseeable future. Thank you Canyon Crossroads Animal Hospital!

Michael Servilla

Very friendly front desk staff. Went extra mile to help find owner of lost dog.

Fantastic staff in general with the wonderful Dr. Janeen Counts. I am a huge pet lover, and I have tried several vets over the years. I can't complain about the others but this is the first time I felt I had to leave a review. I can't say enough nice things about this clinic. My pets are healthy and happy and Canyon Crossroads Animal Hospital is a big reason why.

I usually support local businesses and actually like the staff at Canyon Crossroads Animal Hospital. In fact, I went to take Dusty in due to severe bloating as I read on the web that bloating was a "mother of all emergencies". I was quoted a min (min of ~ $1,200 and max ~$2,100) to run the tests on Dusty. As they ran the tests on Dusty we were told the coughing could be due to heart issues (was prescribed a heart medicine), she could have cancer. I was also told that the x-rays were not clear enough and that they did not have the equipment so need to bring in a specialist to conduct the MRI who has the equipment and would be additional $500. We were prescribed diuretics to reduce the bloating, and liver pills (over $90) because the X-ray showed rough texture of her liver, swollen adrenal glands and that they suspected Dusty to have Cushings disease so they would need to do further testing. Dusty was ok for a few days (after a shot they gave her), however, she bloated up again. We took her in, paid even more money for the blood tests for Cushings. I left her at the hospital all day so that they could run the tests. I got the call and was stated that all signs pointed to Cushings and was prescribed Trilosane (which cost over $100 - not cheap). After taking the diuretics and Trilosane, Dusty was getting worst over the weekend as she was still excreting projectile diarrhea, was lethargic, disoriented, and would stand on all fours looking out to space or just looking at the wall. She was just completely not herself. I called with my concerns and the Vet called me back but never addressed the diarrhea concerns. One other Vet from the clinic called me back and as we were speaking, she referred back to Dusty's chart and stated that she would need to speak with the Office Manager to see if I can get credit as they ran the wrong test...the Vet sounded very confused and unsure and stated that she was having difficulty reading the Vet's notes. By the time we ended the conversation, she stated that the test that was run was the correct one. I am not convinced based on the conversation and confusion of that particular call. Due to the continuous diarrhea, swelling, lethargy, disorientation & confusion, I had to take her to the VCA Emergency Hospital. They had to run the whole test all over again which cost additional $2000+. The Vet told me that her adrenal glands looked normal and that she did not have Cushings disease. What she has is actually cirrhosis and hepatitis of the liver. They have done a liver biopsy. In addition, I had taken Macy into Crossroads Canyon for a routine teeth cleaning and got the call that her blood pressure went very low and her heart was beating erratically. In addition, they had a hard time bringing her out of the anethesia and thus, had difficulty in reviving her. After, paying over $2,500 for a misdiagnosis and unnecessary medication (Dusty), issues with sedation for routine teeth cleaning that went very wrong (Macy)...we will not be going back to Crossroads as I have lost all confidence and faith with this clinic (although, they do have nice folks working in the clinic) as we could have fatally lost our fur babies on separate occassions. I think we need to get a refund for the misdiagnosis and unnecessary medications (which made Dusty feel even worse). - Kym Burnett

Fantastic animal hospital. We've been taking our Fur Babies here for over 14 years. All the veterinarians are wonderful and the front staff are amazing. They sit just outside the city as you enter the East Mountains off I-40 and Tijeras exit. Only about a 15 minute commute on I-40 east or old route 66.

They charge 50 dollars to pet your dog and tell you things you already know. The service is always slow with an appointment or not and they always try to force unnecessary treatments on you. Wouldn't recommend this place to any person or pet I care about.

Dusk

Watch how much they charge you for over the counter products. I got charged $47.50 for an ear flush that costs $10 online - shipping included.

The vets here are the best. Always treat my Grunter like one of their own

mindy kruichak

Nice people who care about our pets pricing was average and we have been patronizing this facility for a long time. Pay attention when you check out on more than one occasion they have made errors and either over charged me or tried to overcharge. I'm sure it's not intentional but carelessness

Thank you Dr. Counts and Josh you went out of your way to find out what was wrong with Noah. That is the reason we have been going to you for 20 plus years

Usually great care and the staff, though often busy, is helpful. Recently had a quote done for our dog's dental, a little of $500 as we expected a few teeth pulled and needed a senior panel and xrays. Final bill was over $1000. I understand that quotes can be off, but when something is that VASTLY different, I believe owners should be called. Never in my time being an animal care taker have we had a quote double.

David Meyer

Convenient area vet with friendly staff. Keep an eye on your bill though as reception staff has tendency to get overwhelmed and occasionally mixes things up.

We drive from Rio Rancho by the star center, that's how much I value their service. My other family members have also been using them for 10+ years. We love supporting hard working trustworthy locally owned businesses.

I go out of my way for these vets. They treat your 4-leggeds as family. The staff is friendly and helpful. It is wheelchair accessible. They take care of emergency situations if you are an active client. They do take time with you and yours, even at the end of the day. It is best to set an appointment.

Krystal Blea

Great people and so thankful for Walk-in available appointments!

Staff was rude. They made me as feel stupid when asking questions about my dog’s care instead of giving me tips on dog care. Our dog passed away and when my spouse called to cancel her upcoming appointment, the staff told him she passed away due to lack of care. Obviously we care about our dog’s care if we made vet appointments.

My entire family and I have been lucky to be customers of this practice for over 15 years. They have always exceeded our expectations in their expertise and customer service. I now live in Albuquerque and am happy to commute to this clinic because I know my pup will get the care she needs and deserves. I make frequent recommendations to this clinic and, most if not all, have become long-term customers. I truly value the family owned business feel and would not think of going anywhere else for my vet needs.

Matthew Glasier

Very thorough and well recommended. They aren't expensive and surprisingly easy to get to via I-40.

I love Dr. Counts. She's taken care of my pets for years. Several of the other vets are good, too. Not sure if I know all of them.

Appointments are recommended however, you can usually always walk in and be seen. Just call so they can pull your chart before you get there. Rarely have I ever been turned down as a walk in, in the past 10-15 years!

Canyon Crossroads vets have been caring for my dog Harley McDuff for 14 years. He is a monthly visitor there for treatment for Addisons. Because of the excellent care he has received, he continues to be an active, happy Westie.

Conveniently located between the east mountains and Albuquerque, but just average in terms of customer service. I have twice had different dogs misdiagnosed here, which were fortunately corrected by an emergency vet. I once had a lab sit here all day for care to a wound on his ear, which still wasn’t done when I stopped by after work. Ended up treating it myself. High turnover in doctors and technicians means I rarely get the same doctor on repeat visits. This place is OK for vaccinations and minor scrapes, but for any more serious issues with your pets I would recommend a different vet.

Liz Berger

They are efficient and care for animals with a lot of love.

Always the best from this place, they aren't a business as much as a resource of competence and compassion. Been going here sporadically since '01 and continue to do so even though I drive 40 min to get there and drive past quite a few other vets in Abq.

Hands -Down the BEST Vet I've ever had!! No one comes close to the care and concern for my 4- legged children like this place! Dr's are all excellent and Staff is A+ the most excellent people anywhere! No, I wasn't paid to leave this feedback, it's truly how I feel! You won't find a better vet, lower cost with the greatest care Anywhere!

Don't bring your pet here... unless you want to OVER PAY for their treatment. It would be ok if it is worth it if you received good service... but not the case!

Worthless from the second they answer the phone. Who runs a business this way? I called for an ultrasound quote for my dog. Receptionist acts like shes put out for having to ask the unavailable doctor and then proceeds to say "maybe" someone will get back to me since she's not in next week... what a joke and sure way to lose possible new business. Zero stars if I could.

Gianni Espinoza

Nice People that care for tour pets.

I used to really love this vet but the last few times I have gone have been bad experiences. I don't know if the staff has changed or what has happened but I've talked to other people who have had the same experiences. I have a 50 lb lab/weimeraner mix. She's an anxious dog but in no way is she aggressive. One time I went and the vet reached out to do something with my dog's ear and she turned her head because it was a surprise. She didn't snap at all but the vet accused her of trying to bite her. The last time I was there they came at her and put a muzzle on her and dragged her away from me by the leash, just for an exam. I get it for clipping nails or shots, but if you're afraid of every big dog why are you in this business?? There have been other similar examples too. These experiences have made going to the vet even more traumatic for her. I know working with animals can be a scary business when you don't know them but if you treat every dog like an attack dog maybe it's time to get out of the business? I do NOT feel the staff is compassionate anymore. Now I feel anxious taking her there, myself. I've debated a lot about writing this review since the last visit but last night talked to another person who had the exact same experiences, and they recommended another vet in the area who I'll go to next time.

Darlene Cox

Overall, this is a great place to take your pets. I have never had any complaints, until today and it is not related to veterinary care. When I made an appointment for a minor procedure for my dog, I was asked if I would like to have his nails clipped. Seemed like a great idea, so yes. I have to say, sadly, it was not worth the $12 it cost. One foot is OK, but the rest were barely touched. Almost as if they took off as little as possible. Also, the nails are jagged, some more crushed than cut, and even split. Not painful splitting, but the kind that happens in the dead part of the nail showing much more could have been removed. Whoever did this job put very little effort into it, didn't know what they were doing and/or used a pair of dull clippers. What bothers me the most, though, is that when I called to complain, the response was just a lackluster "I'm sorry." Somehow, I expected more of a response. At least some hint they care enough to do a better job next time. It won't stop me going here, but never again for nails.

Initially I thought my visit was a bit unorganized I got my puppys 1st set of shots along with an exam. When I went to pay the receptionist couldn't figure my cost it was ridiculous. On my second visit 3 weeks later I was charge a second exam fee that consisted of the vet saying how cute he was along with a dog treat. really unessisary not to mention a cost burden.

Dani Vierra

This has been my primary vet for fifteen years. We have taken both cats and dogs to Dr. Counts. Despite having moved to California I still bring my senior dog here for general/scheduled care. He has mild anxiety and a hip problem now but he does wonderful in this office. The staff is friendly and you can definitely tell everyone here loves animals! I highly recommend this office and specifically Dr. Counts!
