Really love this place, they always give good care.
Took good care of my little Lycan, has to have followup from complications of surgery
Dr. Calista took care of our first dog, he became ill (cancer). Dr. Calista did what was needed and took very good care of our dog until the end. It has taken several years but, we finally decided to get another dog knowing that we were going back to Calista and knowing of the care that Junior would get when needed.
Great vets that genuinely care about your pets.
Best vet care !!
My dad left me here accidentally while taking my grandma's dog for a checkup
You will never find a more caring professional well qualified veterinary practice. Your pets are like family there. My grumpy cat loves them. They handle ALL pets not just cats and dogs. Prices are reasonable and waiting time is low. Even open Saturday morn. Medical and non medical boarding. My furbabies are very sick now and they understand my pain and are helping us through. If I could give them a 6 rating I would. Been with them about 10 years, went there based on great references.
The hospital was clean and the nurses, staff and veterinarian were very kind. They all answered kindly and detailed about various questions.
They took great care of my pet and called to see how he was doing after his procedure
I have had very good experiences at Calista Animal Hospital. All of the doctors that I have met are very understanding and make sure I know what is going on, whether it is a routine check up or something more serious. The employees always greet my dog with a smile and open arms. They are helpful and always answer any questions that I have. The level of care has exceeded my expectations. At times it can be a little scary not knowning if your pet is going to be ok, and I feel at ease when I take Diesel to Calista Animal Hospital.
Great staff. Wouldn't trust anyone with my baby.
I love Dr.Baumann so much! She is the greatest vet in the world!
Loving, caring environment. Don't forget to ask about the Senior Discount.
Teekay just loves his home away from home. Excellent staff.
Dr Calista is so down to earth when discussing options for your pets. I love her bedside manner.
They are very disorganized. When I took my first dog there as a puppy, she ended up getting a 3 year rabies vaccination two years in a row because they didn't bother to look at or read her records. They wouldn't have known if I hadn't pointed it out (after the fact). I had to argue with 2 managers to convince them that I shouldn't have to pay for it when it wasn't even needed in the first place. I feel that their charging of vaccinations is also unfair as they won't give vaccinations without a mandatory exam fee. They just do this to make sure they are making more than what their inflated prices for vacc's already are. Finally, there is no excuse for how late/delayed they can be at times. I know it's an emergency hospital but it has happened more than once. The last time we went, we waited 1 hr. and 45 minutes for an appointment we had. Another guy had been waiting 3 hours for a basic vaccination that he had an appointment for. All I can say is do not make appointments for Saturday if you do go there.
I had a very sick cat who I needed help with and when I took her in as a walk in at 4 pm they took her in right away and were very compassionate about the whole situation. I'm very thankful for Calista and I will continue to take my pets here!
VERY Good Service
Great place for Animal care of Doc Calista away great our pets ... Help with worries answer questions ...the staff is always very helpful
Great assistance with dog's health issues, on time appointment.
People are friendly and seem to care about your pet. Although services are pretty pricey
Great friendly staff. Drs are great n efficient.
I've been taking my Pekingese to this clinic all her life. She started having difficulty breathing. Dr. Brauhman/ Calista suspected something very serious with her heart. She was diagnosed with a heart tumor. I honestly felt the doctors were just as devestated as I was . They fought hard and long for my Sugar but ultimately advised me to do what was best for her and euthanize her . They were so compasionate. Veterinary bills can get expensive very quickly, however it was worth every penny to know that these doctors and I tried everything we could to give Sugar the best care we could in her final days of life. Thank you!
If you need a vet this is the only place to go this is the only that that I depend on Dr Calista herself
Losing a pet is heart wrenching. In my time in Las Cruces, I lost my childhood pet from kidney failure and my beloved best friend from cancer. Both experiences with Calista Animal Hospital were handled tenderly and compassionately. The conversations with staff, doctors and surgeons were prompt and informative. When the unfortunate time came, I was surrounded by people I had come to know over the years who loved and supported me and my pet. Calista Animal has great facilities and knowledgeable staff, Im glad they were there during a difficult time.
Love the level of care our little Toby received. Staff is super friendly and extremely patient with nervous first timers.
Quick, professional, kind service.
Calista has the BEST staff around! Our pug was hospitalized due to pancreatitis & they took such great care of her & called us twice a day giving updates on her condition. While it can be busy I've never felt rushed or that they didn't care. They all truly love animals & know what they're doing. We're forever grateful to the vets & staff at Calista.
I had a bad experience at Calista Animal Hospital, both regarding the care of my cat and management's handling of my complaint (they ignored it completely). I had been unhappy with them for awhile due to wait times and their habit of treating my cat and dog out back where I couldn't see if they were doing what they were charging me for, but it took this latest incident to spur me to change vets and to write this review. I will never go there again.
Great Veterinarian Calista does excellent work!
Best vet in town
Love it there, they are all so compationet and oh so kind wit pet owners and the pets most of all... Dr calists is the best!!
Friendly staff
This was the only place willing to see us for an emergency right before 6pm as we were traveling back to Nevada. We called two other clinics who referred us to after hours emergency center and it wasn't even open yet. The staff took us in right away and the doctor was very caring and considerate of us. I don't know what we would have done without them. Thank you Dr. Castro and staff.
They recently diagnosed our puppy with demodectic mange, I changed her diet, and her skin condition cleared up. Furthermore, it will usually clear up as the pup ages. But they were certainly willing to sell us medication. Also, they repeatedly told me "Your medication is ready, come pick it up" and when I got there, it wasn't ready, "Oh, it will be another 10-15 minutes", after I'd already been there 10-15 minutes, etc. They did this with my prior dog, so I quit going there, I tried them again, and received the same treatment. There are other vets in town.
Calista is a bit expensive but she in my opinion is the best Vet in town. I've known her for at least 19 years and she gets more knowledgeable as time goes on. Great place with great staff.
Staff is very friendly treat all dogs and cats w love
Excellent caring staff and service!
As an Animal Lover I Make sure I take my Furry Babies to the best place, I am coming With Dr, Calista for about 10 years now and I don't have any complaints at all Staff is friendly and caring
Great place...get the job done ..in and out unless a procedure that requires overnight... Can’t speak any higher of a small animal care vet clinic...good job
Have taken great care of my fur babies love them!
Calista is hands down the best vet in town. Dr. Brown is so sweet and kind to our dogs. She explains things so that we understand what is going on and genuinely cares about our dogs. Our puppy got really sick a while back and she went above and beyond to get her healthy and did her best to help us avoid a crazy vet bill. I will always recommend Calista!
Very professionally operated.
I would never take my dog anywhere else. My family has taken all our pets to Calista's. Everyone is so nice there, they really understand all questions and concerns, and the place is so clean. It doesn't even smell like other animal hospitals at all. Its fairly priced for the service and they offer discounts to students. If I trust anyone with my four legged family members its this place. They have staff that stays overnight, and techs there during closed hours to keep pets happy, clean, and well taken care of.
Love them! Usually quick. Good service and different payment options available.
Dr. Calista is amazing. Our baby has play dates on Thursdays.
We began taking our pets to Calista over the summer. I have been very impressed. We have older dogs with health problems associated with their breed - pugs. I feel that we will be given much extra time with them because the staff at Calista are so knowledgeable and concerned. They take time to explain everything that is going on with our "babies" and answer any question readily. A BIG plus is their senior discount! Also happy with their Saturday hours of service. If you want extremely competent doctors and techs in a very efficiently managed establishment, you'll find it here.
Wonderful! She is so kind and patient with my dog. I have been going to her for a few years now. Completely satisfied.
Nice people. They had knowledge. They gave the full story why my mom's dog wasn't feeling good.Other Vet place on North Main had horrible service.Calista is awesome.I recommend Calista to everyone in Las Cruces.
Very rude management. Also,we waiting an hour and a half to be seen for a 10:30 appointment when we got there at 10:15. I faced them all my dogs medical records a week before the appointment and they lost them. Now my dog is sick after the appointment and throwing up and she has never been sick before as long as we have had her. Ridiculous please do not take you pet here. Worse vet experience ever!
I bring all of my lovelies to Calista. I have one of the few Great Danes in town and I dont trust her with anyone. I also have taken my bunny to her in emergency and she saved his life. I've had animals in the past who have gone to her for boarding and I couldn't complain even a little. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my babies!
Been using 7 years now. Excellent Doc's, excellent Staff, will continue using
Calista was a God send when we needed vet attention while on a road trip. Everything you could ever ask for in a vet office. If we lived in the area we would take all our pets here.
Dr. Bowman and Dr. Calista always provide amazing service.
Nice n friendly place
Superb care given to all pets
Very friendly staff & veterinarian
Personal is unprofessional. They do not know how to free customers. Sorry, but it's the truth.
Horrible service. Rude. Selective on who they saw first even though I had an appt. Waited over an hour to get in the dr. When people who had an appt. Before me got services first.
Very professional and very thorough with exams.
Best vet in town!
Very professional kind and quick
Walk in from out of town, thought that my dog ate something poisonous they were quick and thorough and amazing
I have taken all of my animals to be treated at Calista Animal Hospital over the past five years and the service I receive has continued to be outstanding! Dr. Calista and her staff have always been extremely attentive, kind, and considerate. They have gone above and beyond for the needs of my pets and I couldn’t be more grateful. I highly recommend Dr. Calista and her staff to anyone who is looking for someone they can trust with their beloved pets.
Don't go horrible place!
I took my dog in today for a dental consult/ exam and the staff was amazing. The tech that was helping Doc was great with my super-anxious dog. Dr. Cecineros was very friendly and kind and thoroughly answered all my questions! We will definitely be going back!
I am surprised by all of these bad reviews. Our normal vet, Banfield, didn't have any appointments so we had to find a vet fast. Our 19 week old puppy was pooping pretty much straight blood. We took her to Calista, because we figured an animal hospital would be better under the circumstances. We got there right before they closed and they took us right in. Our puppy had parvo and had to spend 5 days there. They were fantastic and kept us well informed of her progress. Her final bill was almost 200 less than what the estimated hospital stay was for 3 days. I was willing to pay whatever I could to make her better. Our pup is home, happy, and healthy. I will only go back there. I will be forever grateful for the wonderful staff at Calista.
Love Dr. Calista, she's very friendly and knowledgable
Pricey. I really liked the Vet though. But communication is not great. It took days and at one point even a week to get answers. Also the med prescribed for my dog were not explained to me.
Have to wait forever to get phone calls returned....your pet could die Doesn't call with test results, you wait forever and then have to call and leave a message with the desk that you want test results...someone may or may not call you back. I remember when Calistas was all about the pet, never met a more compassionate vet. Now it is all about the bottom line. Look elsewhere, in the long run you will not be happy here. Large turnover on front desk people
Wonderful vetinariian all the staff was very professional and friendly.
Care and compassion. We put down one of our dogs today. They helped us through this difficult process.
My puppy got the rabies shot
Good place to take your pet
Very pleased with the environment and very organized . Judi was the one that helped us, she was very good with my cats and very courteous to my furry friends needs. She would go out of her way to help us.Along with the rest of the staff.I would recommend bringing your pets here.
The best place to bring your pets
The doctors are great and their assistance are fabulous too. If you have a furry friend this is the place to go!
Slow, appointments run late but they genuinely care
There are many options in Las Cruces for pet care, do not let someone convince you this is the best vet in the city. It used to be, it's not anymore. The high turnover in employees indicates the majority of the staff are inexperienced and/or disgruntled. The wait time for scheduled appointments is inexcusable. The diagnostics are haphazard. The care is questionable. It's not worth the risk when there are other choices in the area.
Great care from friendly, professional staff.
Excellent vet!
Great care from everyone!!
Always ready to HELP for BIG or little things!
I absolutely love Carol Calista the owner Veterinarian. Most of the other Veterinarians are good, but it seems they turn over every year or so, which is sad because you just get a relationship going with one or two outside of Dr. Calista and then they are gone. Sometimes I think her prices have been going up way faster than the cost of living making it very hard to being my pets in for annual checkups. Dr. Calista, however is a great vet and I don't use anyone else anymore.
We have been taking our pets to Calista Animal Hospital for almost 4 years now. The staff are caring and knowledgeable individuals. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats. We have seen several of the veterinarians, but see Dr. Calista and Dr. McKannis most of the time. They are both great with both our dogs and cats. The first year we moved here we lost our oldest dog. All the staff who helped us through that were so thoughtful and caring with our dog and us. I am so grateful for their support during that time. Their prices are reasonable and you can tell that they really care about your animals.
This place quite literal saved my cat's life. They are friendly, kind, and caring!
Wonderful staff and they love what they do. Thanks so much for taking care of rescue. He is doing great started playing today he is on his way to recovery after 7 months of trying to fix his broken leg to getting it taken off. Was a bad surgery but they did there best by trying to save it. Dr. Calista and staff are the best. Until we see you again. Thank you for all your hard work you did to try and save his leg. Love you all. Susan Clark and Rescue woof.
Caring, friendly, knowledgeable staff.
I took my puppy to get spayed there just recently using the local SNAP program. I was very worried for my puppy. She's incredibly timid and nippy, being the part Chihuahua mix that she is. When I take her to get her nails done at the groomer she screams bloody murder and nips at them if they touch her suddenly. Because of this I warned the vet techs ahead of time because the entire procedure would be scary enough for my pup that I wanted them to handle her appropriately as to not make it any worse than she'd already (inevitably) see it. Well they were incredibly gentle with her, and when I went to pick her up she was only drowsy, not at all terrified or stressed as I thought she would be (and how she usually is when out of the house). My little pup is also healing very well. The incision site is very clean and I haven't had any problems. They prescribed some pain meds for her which she's received as prescribed, and is healing beautifully. They even called me two days in a row after the surgery just to see how my pup was faring. All in all, I'm very pleased with this experience and I'll be taking my second pup there to get spayed as well, soon as she is old enough, of course. Thank you Calista team for the great work on my precious pup!
Their service might be good and their doctors but they are extremely insensitive when it comes to the owners and inconsiderate when it comes to money..from personal experience I could not afford surgery for my dog and offerd to do payment plans and they did not let me and I had to put my dog down they were extremely inconsiderate and I would not recommend anyone there
Long wait time and a little pricey for spay and neuter
The staff and doctors are very friendly and will help you to the vest of their ability. The receptionist can become short with you if they are in a hurry. They do offer emergency services, but the wait is too long if it is a real life or death emergency so I would not recommend for that. The office does have roaming cats so if you have non animal friendly pets I would recommend to muzzle or leave them in the car and ask for the Back entrance.
Very friendly and concerned about your pets health and care.
Expensive
Dr. Carol Calista is THE BEST VET YOU WILL EVER FIND....She is nothing less than caring, experienced, well trained, competent and all around GOOD. I have put all my animals in her care and trust at one time or another....she has PROVEN time and time again....I am so happy to know about this VETERINARIAN and to have the opportunity of her service....THANK YOU CAROL CALISTA for all you do ALWAYS!
Always nice and friendly. Very professional.
This place is top-notch. I always take my little Fred there. He's a chihuahua who broke his leg - tons of In & Out. (They're an A+ vet without a doubt)
Staff is always friendly
Easy to get appointments and very thorough Vet.
I just moved to Las Cruces and brought my dog here on the recommendation of a neighbor. I was completely satisfied with the care he received. All of the staff seemed to bond with him well, so he was completely at ease. Plus, the reasonable fees went easy on the pocketbook of this retiree.
I love this place, and I would never take my dogs or cat anywhere else. Everyone, from the front desk staff to the vets, are extremely helpful and courteous. It really puts me at ease how the animals are treated here with the upmost of care. My sister's puppy got parvo, and not only did they manage to save him but they also helped her figure out financial arrangements since he had to stay several days. I am glad to say he is now a healthy adult dog thanks to the meticulous care given at Calista Animal Hospital.
They take care of my dogs ...just like if they are there own.. ❤
The doctors and staff here are awesome. They treat me and my animals like family. They really do care!
Greatest place for all your animals. My family has trusted them for over 13 years for a total of 6 dogs and cats combined since moving to LC New Mexico.
Very helpful, knowledgeable vetinarians. They take care of all my animals.
It's just the place to be when you need hello and years of knowledge.
Great place and terrific staff
Veterinarians were nice, staff was not.
We have cats & dogs - all who go to Calista. The staff & Vets are all absolutely amazing! They all communicate what's going on even during an emergency. Sadly we've lost 2 of our aging pets over the past few years & Calista was there to help us and offer support. They went the extra mile when we had our cat & German Shepherd cremated. It still brings tears to my eyes thinking about how kind they were to us. Check out Calista, you will definitely be happy with your furbaby's care.
Dr Carol Calista is compassionate and professional. Her staff are welcoming and good listeners. They take the least invasive path to alieve an illness or injury. The building and room work well for our pets and we humans too. November 9, 2017 is when Dr Calista and her staff spayed our pet. Today on the 16th, the scar looks clean and small. I think it will disappear.
Love how great my fur babies are treated
Not very good service!
The staff is friendly and courteous. Our dog was spayed here and they did an excellent job. They promised a follow-up call the next day, which they did and was very helpful answering all my questions. They are highly recommended.I give them a 10
Friendly and caring staff.
Best vet hospital in town! Dr. Calista really made the difference when I had to make the decision to put my ten year old Chihuahua down. After a week in the hospital, it was clear she just wasn't going to make it. Their entire staff was so patient and understanding; one of the vet techs actually cried with me. It's been a couple of years but I still tear up thinking how she went above and beyond for me. 2018, I brought my Pomeranian puppy in because she was pretty sick. Well again, Dr. Calista did her magic and saved my pup's life. If you need a great, caring vet clinic, this is it! It's a gem in the desert!!!
Dr. Calista & her doctors & staff are all about lovingly caring for the animals. 3 of the docs here have been taking care of my cats for almost 14 years and have saved the lives of several when I thought there was no hope...and I love them all for it. IMO, you won't find a better group of pet vets anywhere.
Just okay. Waited a half hour for our appointment before we were seen. Very noisy place which is to be expected from all the dogs but I would never bring my cats here as I think all the barking would stress them out. Prices were normal I guess for a vet clinic. Mostly however, my dog did not appreciate being picked up and put on the stainless steel table as most vets come down to his level and examine him on the floor. Little things like that are what I look for in a clinic...
Awesome staff and experience.
The staff is WONDERFUL. I don't worry about my Maddy when she's there.
The doctors and staff really care about your pets and are great at taking care of them.
Professional and caring as always!!
Had my rescue dog in for check up on spay because of infection.
Nice lovely staff and environment and I’m sure accomplished vets but geez are they expensive! Ask about their heartworm policy? I have been going here nine years and they missed one of my dogs for a vaccine reminder. Now I’m off on a trip with them without one of them being updated. Plus they make the heart-worm policy so difficult that you’ll never be able to order cheaper meds from an online source.
The best !!
I am a fist time English Bulldog owner and holy cow i did not know how much health troubles they could go through. Dr. Calista, and one of her staff members Rebecca were always our first choice to see our pets. They are always so happy to see our animals, very gentle and informative. I would not take my animals anywhere else.
we love Calista's we board our cats there each year for an extended stay. My cats always come back better behaved. What I do not like is they will not allow me to bring the cats and get the vaccines at the same time. I live 1.5 hours away. the Annual vaccine is expired around the same time each year. They are making me crazy wanting me to come down a week ahead of the boarding. and then back again to board. I am thinking of finding another boarder - this is an inconvenience since they are right next door. And they are always rude telling me I should keep up on their vaccines myself - my cats are 100% indoor cats and this is the only place they go. Reconsidering......
We've been coming here for years. Dr. Brown takes great care of all of our furkids. She gives us a wonderful, personal touch.
I loved the doctors and nurses taking care of the animals. My dog just had surgery there and was well taken care of.
Very nice and helpful staff.. they really care about the animals and always help the best they can. We've been there several times and have never had a rude person ..
I came here because they apparently specialize in animal eye tools or something and my cats had eye infections. Even though I asked repeatedly for their eyes to be checked, the vet didn't and did an absolute drive-by at best. It was also very expensive.
They take awesome care of your fur babies!!! I have been here many times with different babies and they are always great!!
Very fast, professional and polite people. I will definitely go there again for any veterinarian needs
DR Calista and staff are the best!
Love this place! I have never had such a great Vet any where. they are so nice and caring vet's and staff. I will never go anywhere else. And I never feel like I have been over charged.
They are so great. they have helped out so much with the little dog that my girlfriend and I rescued thanks so much especially to dr calista her self she is such a sweetheart.
Wonderful staff and they truly care about the animals
I love the compassion and care that the staff and techs show towards the animals and their owners. I definitely recommend this clinic.
Busy but effective, professional Veterinary practice.
Very busy but well organized business. Good medical attention and sincere caring
All staff here are so kind and supportive. We've had to say goodbye to our babies here, and brought new family members in for their 1st visits. We are always treated with compassion and respect for our wishes ♥️ Rest Peacefully Goozi ♥️
The best vets ever!
We were visiting from out of town when my dog needed stitches and I can not say enough good things about the care we received. The staff was top notch professional and very friendly. Within a half hour we were talking with the kind and knowledgeable Dr. Matanis, who did a thorough exam, then explained the situation and game plan in such detail that we knew we were in good hands. Thanks!
Excellent, excellent, excellent!!! Being from Washington state, I rely heavily on word of mouth and Google reviews. I tried Jornada Vet and Las Cruces Emergency Clinic; Jornada's lobby wait time is ridiculous and the "Emergency" clinic declined to see my animal because they were closing soon. During my emergency episode, I stumbled upon Calista Animal Hospital. My truthful testimony is that they went above and beyond what I would've expected from any medical professional. Because I was denied at Las Cruces Animal Emergency Clinic, I sat in front of Calista Animal Hospital at 7:20am waiting for them to open. I noticed an employee sitting in his vehicle and approached him with my situation. Not only was he helpful and compassionate, he opened the clinic up 30 minutes before they were scheduled to. The attending vet techs stabilized my dog and hopped on the phone with the veterinarian ... ALL BEFORE 8:00am. In short, I highly recommend Calista Animal Hospital. I understand this is not an emergency hospital and is only open during day hours but if you can wait, it's well worth it to be in excellent, informative, and caring hands. Signed, Former Animal Control Officer
Wonderful, caring doctors. I've taken my pets to Dr. Calista for more than 15 years!
They are so gentle with our animals
19 years ago we discovered Dr Carol Calista and have never looked back. She and her amazing staff have always provided excellent and compassionate care to our cats. Over the years we have experienced serious illnesses, emergencies, hospital stays and end-of-life decisions. We are especially grateful for the exceptional skill and gentle treatment our cats have always received in those difficult times.
Calista Animal Hospital is our Vet! We have two older Bichon's so find ourselves using their services fairly often. We love the medical team at Calista's because they are caring and loving to our dogs. Because we live in the desert it is necessary to give our dogs rattlesnake shots each year. Fortunately Calista's offer a clinic each year where you can get their shots less than the cost of a regular visit. Calista's also has doggy daycare and boarding services. We have a number of friends and neighbors who board their dogs there and they say their pets love it! The clinic is busy, so even if you have an appointment you may have to wait.
Excelente veterinarians!! They care about what they do!!
They were very patient with my cat and answered all my questions without the slightest bit of a laugh no matter how stupid it all sounded
Not happy with this hospital and there employees.. I only wanted to buy a few cans of dog food as we were visiting from out of town and they were the only place that sold my dogs food (needs a Rx).. When I called to see if they carried the food; I was never told we had to wait for the food to be pulled from somewhere else and that we had to fill out extensive paperwork just to buy dog food.. I had my own Rx; so we weren't needing to see a vet, and then they wanted to keep my Rx.. The Rx is what I use each time I shop for my pets food; it's not like a typical Rx that you relinquish when buying medication.. Very poor customer service and lack of people skills..
Really great care. Dr. Calista is such a caring woman and makes me feel like my pet is top priority when I’m there.
Great place, nice people
First visit. Very impressed. Staff was welcoming and my new dog was not traumatized. Highly recommended.
Apparently if you are a new client, see this vet for a chronic skin condition for your dog, tell this vet that you use a dog food that is only sold by vets (so "prescription" but it's not like it has a controlled substance in it, it's just food that only vets can sell), show this vet all the paperwork from the dermatologist your dog also is a client of, the vet won't note it in your file and the front desk staff will still tell you that you need a prescription written by your old vet to buy this food from them (even as they see you are a client of their clinic!!!!!). Apparently the front desk staff is both unaware that prescription food is a cash cow for them, and that prescription food does not contain a controlled substance. Further, at what point does this clinic actually believe I'm a client? Every time I need a service, I"m going to have to prove I've received it elsewhere first despite a patient record on file?
All the employees are caring. Even though they see a lot of patients during the day they make you feel cared for. You won'y regret trusting them with your pet.
