Lovely staff and comprehensive care provided to my 1.5 yr old black lab. We own a second home in Eastman and our primary veterinarian is in Massachusetts. Due to an acute and worrisome overnight onset of cough/vomiting from my pup this past week while in Eastman, I called Sugar River Animal Hospital for advice. They got my dog an appointment to come in within hours of opening. Dr. MacLean and staff were wonderful and professional. I felt like we had be part of the practice for years from the start. Not only did she dx and rx the canine cough (while also saving me the cost of potential xrays, I was initially concerned maybe the dog had eaten something, but Dr. MacLean was confident that was not the case given the dogs symptoms and presentation) but she also thoroughly examined her and also found my dog to have bilateral ear yeast infections (and all along I thought my dog smelled funny from rolling in something!). I cannot thank her enough. My pup is feeling much better. I am delighted that we have access to such a great veterinarian practice right in Grantham. I have already shared my experience there with friends who are also part-timers in Eastman and animal owners should they ever find themselves needing care. I would not hesitate to recommend Sugar River Animal Hospital. Thank you!

We saved another rescue from Wags & Wiggles (please, please visit their FB page to get info if you are thinking of getting a dog or cat). They deal in all breeds. My last dog was a pure breed Great Pyrenees. We had to lay him to rest on 12/21/17; felt like my heart was ripped out of my chest. He was only 5.5 yrs. Genetic heart defect, nothing they could do (in a human, they'd need a heart transplant). We were Devastated. So back to Wags & Wiggles for our next adoption. This time, it was a puppy. She & her 5 sisters + parents were pulled from a kill shelter in LA. As a puppy, the rescue team can only give her first shots (being so young); typically the rescues are fully vetted & are spayed/neutered. That LONG STORY brings me here. Sugar Hill is an incredible facility for two reasons. Not only are the staff & drs there PHENOMENAL but, they work in conjunction with Wags & Wiggles. I had the choice to have her spayed thru my vet or the rescue would take care of the bill (so, free to us) if we went to Sugar Hill. They do this to ensure animals get spayed & neutered. So. Not only are they a great place to take on as your vet, but also know that behind the scenes, they are helping out a non-profit that is REMARKABLE. If I didn't live 2hrs away, they'd be my pick.

Took my new kitten Master Booja-Booja for a checkup , rabies etc. Dr MacLean had been referred to me by a dear friend who breeds cats. From the moment I stepped in the door I knew I had made the right decision to switch vets and come here. They made Booja (and me) feel very special and welcomed. Dr MacLean even asked if I had talked to my friend today and knew how her 3 kittens that she took in yesterday were doing. I feel like all my cats will me treated with loving care at Sugar River Animal Hospital. I will surely recommend them to all my pet loving friend.

In both cases the staff at Sugar River have gone far beyond what I would consider reasonable to care for our pets (and us). Java, our std poodle became ill on Friday as we were leaving on vacation on Sunday. Dr. Maclean's found Java had a fever, Gardia and a bacterial infection. Armed with drugs, care and food instructions, we felt reassured that we could leave Java with a pet sitter while we kept our vacation plans. Indeed Java's fever subsided, his perkiness returned and his stool came back to normal in two days. Our thanks to Dr. MacLean and her staff for their expert care and followup on how Java was responding to the drugs.

Dr. Catherine MacLean saved my cat's life. Dr. MacLean saw my cat immediately--it was amazing--she cleared her schedule on the spot and revived my sweet Stella, who was having a stroke. And then she found a way for me to care for Stella, day by day. Dr. MacLean really, really cares. She is that perfect and rare combination of heart and expertise. I have lived all over the world, and I've never known a vet so well informed and helpful. Dr. MacLean listens to your concerns with patience and she always finds the very best solution. Dr. MacLean created a treatment plan that has Stella happier and healthier than she's been in years. Stella is a Himalayan, 17, and has a difficult kidney disease. She couldn't be more delicate, as a small purebred cat. She required special, considered care. Truly complex care. Stella is so much better, now that Dr. MacLean has guided us and informed us. Stella is enjoying her days and having fun. I am overwhelmed with gratitude. Thank you, Dr. MacLean, and thanks to your terrific staff. Dr. MacLean is up on all the newest treatments, and she cares for your pet as if he or she were her own. She goes way, way beyond the call of duty. And the doctor has a great sense of humor! She also prices her services extremely competitively, and clearly strives to give her patients and customers a good deal. I can't believe how much service we have gotten, how detailed the responses, and how generous the explanations about treatment. It's astounding and it's heartwarming. This kind of care comes along once in a blue moon. Each person behind the desk at Sugar River Animal Hospital will treat you like family. They've all gone way, way beyond the call of duty for us. They care! It's amazing. I've been going to her for a while now, and every patient and owner seems to come out of the exam room happy and hopeful, dog or cat or human. It's extraordinary. We're so happy, so lucky to have found this hospital. We love Sugar River Animal Hospital! Forget the rest. Go to the best!

They love dogs, and the front desk person and vet tech are as enthusiastic as the vet in caring for your dog.They work with you to tailor the care that your animal needs at the time. I cannot say enough positive things about Dr. Catherine MacLean and the entire team (shout outs to Sarah, Paula, and Amanda for starters) at Sugar River Animal Hospital. I have a very old dog with a number of medical problems and Dr. MacLean and her staff have addressed each one with great skill, unusual sensitivity, and consistent kindness. Although this is a very busy practice, Dr. Catherine and the staff always make Maggie and me feel as though we are the only pet and pet owner on the planet. That level of focused attention and care is rare in today’s world and I’m so grateful for finding S.R.A.H. I’ve also been very impressed by Dr. Catherine’s commitment to continuing education, which results in her always being up to date on the latest research in the field. Finally, Dr. Catherine is a licensed acupuncturist, and my dog’s arthritis and seizure disorder (among other problems) have been relieved by these treatments. Hooray for— and thanks to—Dr. Catherine and her amazing team for being a pet and pet owner’s dream come true.

The people at Sugar River Animal Hospital are amazing. My dog has some serious cardiovascular complications, and Dr MacLean not only treated him with great care, but further researched his rare complication on her own time, and called me at home to share her advice. Dr MacLean is young, energetic, fun, and really cares about her furry patients. She is a huge asset to the Upper Valley, and while I've been to many other vets in the area, there is no one better than this group.

Most Seniors live on a fixed income, so every little bit helps, especially since Sugar River Animal Hospital charges so much for their services! It was a wonderful coincidence that I moved to Grantham the month that Sugar River Animal Hospital opened their doors for business! I needed a new vet for all my many pets after being with one vet for 16 years! I needed a vet that would provide me with the professional care I was accustomed to. I spoke with Dr. MacLean and it was apparent to me that Dr. MacLean and her team treats your pets like their own. She also provides your pet with the same type of treatment that human doctors provide for their surgery patients. This means that all necessary monitoring is in place so surgery can go smoothly and your pet remains stable while undergoing surgery. Some vets offer inexpensive vet care by cutting their costs thereby eliminating necessary monitors - not the case here. Dr. MacLean is easy to talk to - you can discuss anything about your pet and she will explain everything very clearly to you. And most importantly she has a wonderful staff backing her up so she can offer you and your pet wonderful veterinary care at competitive prices. The staff of vet techs are wonderful, caring, personable and always enthusiastic. This makes for a great team at Sugar River Animal Hospital! The hospital offers flexible hours - some later nights during the week and also 1-2 Saturdays a month. The Saturday hours are always posted on their website which is very convenient. If you have pets and want great care you have to stop by and Meet the team at Sugar River Animal Hospital!
