I was recommended to come here by someone I know that uses this veterinarian. Last year my dog developed a serious, and rare condition, and I was unhappy with our current vet, so we decided on switching to this veterinarian. Like most articles you read, or publications, or people you speak with, they usually tell you to speak with a veterinarian first, before you move your pet to their clinic. The same as usually said about switching doctors as well. The reason is, you are interviewing them for long-term use and care of you or your family member..
So I called the clinic and told them I just wanted to speak with a veterinarian to ensure that he understood the condition my dog had, and that I could transition to his clinic. The answer I got was that I would have to pay for a visit, and a diagnostic fee, and that the veterinarian would not speak with me unless I paid to speak with him. I explained again that I was wanting to switch the vet, and I simply needed to speak with him for 5 minutes to ensure that it would be a right fit, and that he understood my dog's condition. The response again was that I would need to pay to have a visit, even if my dog didn't come. I'm willing to bet you that's not the response that the pharmaceutical companies, or other companies that sell things through the vet are told, but that's what I was told.
Any healthcare practice that is unwilling to even answer a question about whether or not they can even help your pets rare condition, and won't even let you meet a vet before trusting in the practice, is not a veterinarian worthy of our business.
For the record, I spoke with a few other vets that were quickly able to tell me whether or not they could handle my dog's condition. The general recommendation that I heard was that I should stick with my current vet, regardless of the problems there, because they were the ones that were dealing with the issue. I made that unfortunate mistake, and that's a whole other story, but they were at least able to treat my dog. It would have been nice to come to this vet on the initial recommendation that I had had, by a long-term customer of theirs, and they could have just spent two to three minutes speaking with me and answering a question as to whether or not they could even treat my pet in the first place. Instead, this is the end result.
