I love Westwood Animal Hospital. I had been going to another vet in the same area for years, my baby was SICK and they could not work him in! I was devastated, they told me to take him to the Emergency Vet in Mission, well I have done that before and it was a $1000.00. - I called Westwood and they got him in right then, no questions asked, figured out what was wrong and got him meds. I highly recommend Westwood and will continue to take my babies to see the vets there. **UPDATE** I had to take Rosie my dachshund and she had a grand mal seizure as soon as we walked in, Dr. Martin rushed to take care of her, gave her oxygen and something to relax her, i know it is common but it is still scary! She prescribed Rosie some valium to give before we go next time to get her needed vaccines. Everyone was very nice and concerned

These people are the absolute best. I've been bringing my dog to Westwood for years, for immunizations, boarding, and a few ad hoc visits when needed. I've never once been unhappy with the service provided. They really get to know the animals, and you can tell that they care. I used to board my dog somewhere else, and I started boarding him at Westwood because I noticed a distinct difference in his attitude when we arrived at the respective locations. He is happy when we walk in the door at Westwood, and happy every time when I come to pick him up. That's the best endorsement they can get in my book. They're treating our 4th dog and only cat and they're good at listening to problems like when a tried and true flea and tick treatment fail, they've found alternatives that helped without some of the side effects from products you can buy from Wal-Mart. They've loved all of my pets, even the ones that snap at them

After the 4th of July this year, our two year old mixed breed became terrified of going outside, and additionally seemed scared to be at our house. Luckily, we were referred to Dr Hunthausen. After our initial visit, he provided us with tips and tricks to reduce his fears of our home. Dr Hunthausen gave us the dog we were used to back! Additionally, the staff is amazing! They are quick to answer any questions we've had, and if they are unable to answer a question, Dr Hunthausen is prompt to answer them for you. After calling every other veterinarian in the area, Westwood was the only one willing to squeeze my cat in that morning. I had never been there before and was very impressed. The receptionist and veterinarian were so kind and friendly. Most veterinarians would have forced me to do an x-ray. Because it was a recurring problem and I knew what was going on, they allowed me to skip the x-ray and just treated her, which saved me $80. After treating my cat and sending her home, they called me twice in the days that followed to check on her. I've never gotten follow-up calls from a vet before. A few weeks after her visit to Westwood Animal Hospital, my cat is doing great. This was by far the best experience I've had with a veterinarian.

I have taken my German shepherd to Westwood Animal Hospital since we first got her at 6 weeks old. The staff is friendly, professional, and it is apparent they care about the pets they provide service for. When Dr Carr gave Bella her rabies vaccination, the doctor put peanut butter on a tongue depressor and had me give it to her while he gave her the shot. They do everything they can to provide a positive experience for your pet. I also attended their puppy class. Donna Lane was an excellent trainer, and as a result of the class, we have a well socialized, obedient dog who loves interacting with dogs and people. Very satisfied customer!

We have been seeing 'Uncle Wayne' and his wonderful partners since the conception of Westwood Animal Hospital many years ago. Among our family members was Pancho, a very independent large black cat whose daddy was Siamese and who thought he was a cowboy. Then we had Wong and Fu- brothers and quite the comedy team. One was a straight Siamese and the other a Ragdoll. They had their own agendas and were NUTS about Uncle Wayne. They would fight to see who would get into the carrier first for a visit. Next was Picabo, "Peeky Sweetheart". He came with behavioral issues due to living in a cage for the first 6 months of his life and he was transformed by the help and kindness of the specialists at WAH. He turned out to be a dreamboat. All the cats had been -RESCUES- and fit right into the family. Today we have 2 RESCUED FERAL Siamese mix cats- Periwinkle and Blossom. They come all the way from Knoxville, TN and "MEOW" with a southern drawl. They are very sweet big babies but shy. A day does not go by that they don't find a way to say 'thankyou'. Wink is a Lilac Point Tuxedo and Blossom is a Torti Point Seal who came in with a BB in her leg. WAH to the rescue! SOS! They were traveling together and today they are happy and safe and running the show. WAH has been a godsend in helping them to acclimate and to become two very happy and healthy cats. THANKYOU! I really love this place. I have a new shelter dog who is very nervous and they were very gentle with her going at her pace and not pushing her to do anything that would make her uncomfortable. Great Animal Hospital -- they get us in and out in seconds flat, which everyone appreciates. Dr. Carr is the vet I've met with most and he goes out of his way to understand and address my dog's problems and then follows up. People care should be so good! Mary Kline is great, too. Even though our household is an Obedience School Drop Out, we got a lot out of the classes we attended and she's got a really great understanding of dogs and their people and our behaviors. Her classes are highly recommended.

Then when they charged me for it I said excuse me, why am I being charged for this. The front desk lady was unbelievably rude and said it was my fault. When it came time for her to be euthanized, even greater attention was given when I brought her in. I believe Westwood Animal Hospital was only recommended by one person, but based on my initial conversation with the front desk, I knew this would be the animal hospital for me. Emily made my initial conversation/experience with Westwood Animal Hospital the best and most comfortable experience I can get being new to the city. In the coming months of first starting in KC, my pruppet, Charlotte, gets sick and everything is well taken care of for me. I have met with all the vet at the hospital at this point and there is not a vet that I do not like or bump heads with. This speaks a lot of the hospital as I am an incredibly particular person and my pruppet is my whole life! With nothing but praise for everything, I do find it difficult to get Charlotte in there last minute, but that's just how great they are. And for all you millennial out there, they will email you everything if you prefer to not be contacted by phone!

My rescued Siamese cats over the years have been in great hands since the Westwood Animal Hospital moved to the neighborhood. They have seen all the doctors there at one time or another and have always been very comfortable in their company. Recently rescued a couple of feral Siamese mix cats and they too are nuts about Uncle Wayne Hunthausen. The female unfortunately had to have surgery due to a bullet wound from her past life not healing properly. From the phone call to schedule an appt for my Pooch till the time we left I felt as if I was a lifelong patient of Westwood, however it was out first visit. The office is clean, the staff is friendly, the Veterinarian was nice, great with my Pooch, and explained everything. We ended up having to schedule a surgery procedure for my Pooch and we were provided an cost estimate before leaving so I knew how far out to scheduled the appt. All in all, we will not be switching vets - Westwood is my #1 pick!

Very clean, professional, and courteous. Dr. Carr examined my cat, a former stray. He vaccinated her with out checking to see if she was pregnant. Ten days later when I take her in to be spayed I found that she is pregnant and the vaccination most likely left the kittens with brain damage. He wanted to charge me over 700 dollars to remove the kittens. KC spay and neuter is going to charge me 60 dollars but may refuse to operate if they are too far along. I no longer have the option to allow the kittens to be born because I can't keep them and no one will want kittens that are brain damaged and can't walk properly. I could have had them removed 10 days ago when they weren't as far along if had he checked to see if my cat was pregnant.

This hospital is absolutely amazing! We originally brought out mini Aussie in because of behavioral issues, and Dr. Hunthausen was the only vet in the area with expertise on this subject. While it was a bit pricey, it was well worth it! Our pup has seen a night and day difference with all the guidance and care Dr. Hunthausen has given us/him- he's a whole different dog. We lost sleep debating keeping the dog because of how bad his behavior was, and now, we are so thankful we are better educated on how to care for him, and have him treated appropriately. We loved the care we got for him so much that we made Westwood are forever vet. We now have another sweet pup that sees vets here as well. We always have the best care, they're very patient, informative, straightforward, and answer any and all questions we may have with great education. The staff have always been so caring for our pets, welcome us by name and know our pup's names, answer calls and voicemails quickly, and emails as well! I read some other low reviews and I think they were slightly misguided. These are incredibly hardworking, and incredibly busy, workers- all of them. While the vets may be stern at times, it's because I'm sure they've answered a million of the same questions from worried pet owners just in that day alone. They know what's best for your pet, and they will tell you the honest truth without trying to make everything warm and fuzzy. Some people can't handle that, but we really appreciate it because we know we are being best informed and there is not beating around the bush about things. We have two incredibly health pups that will hopefully live very long, happy lives- much in part because of the wonderful care received from Westwood Animal Hospital. :)

Just got off the phone with Dr.Hunthausen and I will not be taking my pet here. No matter how many years of experience he has under his belt. It doesn't make up for the lack of respect this man has. I called to inquire about his rehabilitation classes and while I proceeded to tell him about my German Shepherd he quickly Interrupted me and said, " well if you are interested call and make an appointment, THANK YOU!" and hung up on me. COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS.

Everyone at Westwood Animal Hospital was beyond amazing. I had an emergency with my Bull Terrier, Dexter. I was in a panic and they were so compassionate, patient and attentive with me and dog when we both needed it most.
