Here you have all the feddbacks of real people like you who bought the products of KC Pet Project - Main Adoption Center (Veterinarian) in Missouri.
At this moment the firm receives a score of 4.3 out of 5 and that score is based on 851 reviews.
As you can see it reaches an feddbacks average is high, and it's founded on a large number of reviews, so we may think that the rating is very reliable. If many people have bothered to give their opinion when they've done well with the business, it works.
As you know, we do not usually bother to set tatings when these are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Veterinarian corresponds to the category of Animal shelter.
Amazing people work here. Amazing people bringing in animals and amazing people adopting. To see the love everyone has for animals is inspiring. Please save an animal it will change ur life forever.
Great staff! They really care about the animals. Only caution is to get confirmation when someone tells you something. It can lead to confusion and lost money when putting a "hold" on a potential pet. Other than that, they cover medical for TWO weeks after adoption and check to see how you're doing.
We adopted our dog Abigail on Saturday, along with 71 other people who adopted animals that day. Every staff person we talked to was knowledgeable and patient, knowing they had to stay for several more hours to make sure everyone got individual attention. It was a very nice experience
Adopted a 3 year old cat here last Sunday. Great place and they clearly care for their animals, though they forgot to schedule the spaying for our new cat. Thankfully they got her in last minute and we got her home about when we expected to. Great place to adopt!
We found a kitty and they took it in no kill is amazing
Came here to adopt two cats and it was a great experience. Very passionate people working here and it was a thorough process making sure we were a good home for the cats. Fees are very reasonable and we got lots of great information as well.
Great staff. Great experience. Enjoying our new kitty... Appreciate all you do! Will definitely recommend!
Very caring staff. They took our two pups with care. Even though the pups were scared they handle them with love and care. I trust in this great group of special people.
By far my most favorite shelter. Although its sad to see how people wouldn't want these beautiful animals, the staff is so loving and caring towards them. I have gotten two animals from KC Pet Project and they have become members of our family. They have every animal that comes through the door all caught up on shots and gets them ready for homes. The absolute best thing is that it is a no kill shelter! So every single little kitty and dog have a chance at a happy life with someone.
Great staff and volunteers who deeply care about all the animals. I had a great experience with a dog-to-dog intro between my current pet and my brand new pet. The staff did a great job explaining specific behaviors between them and helping me relax so both dogs would be relaxed. The adoption process was informational and they told me everything I need to know about adopting my HW+ doggy. Thanks for doing all you do and letting my fiance and I gain a new family member. Grizzly is the best!
Went in today, it smelt bad. Alot of the kennels had feces in them and the poor dogs just sat there and shook due to the stress they are under
Such awesome staff. Wish I could adopt a dog from them every week.
Great place to get an awesome dog.
Asked for information good
Needed some help with a 10 day old kitten. None at this place.
Flipping great!!! Got my son there. Spike.
Stay away from them. The volunteers and site staff are great, but the management is deceitful and will stab you in the back the first chance they get. Knew a former professor of mine who volunteered there after his fiance and daughter died. They let him work 6 weeks, made him buy a volunteer shirt, then when a volunteer they liked better publicly insulted him they refused to have any contact and told him not to come back. When they finally contacted him and were asked why, he was told other people had been contacting them on his behalf, but they refuse to tell him who or what they had done. As far as any of us can find out of the numerous contacts they claim, there are only 3 anyone can find. Leadership team at the main center is prejudicial and not to be trusted
Great people who do great things. I always want to take all the dogs home with me when I visit.
Amazing organization! KC Pet Project is one of the top largest open admission no kill shelters in the country!! Imagine all the hard work and dedication that takes. The staff works incredibly hard every day to ensure the right adopters are matched with the right pet. I've volunteered for years and started fostering with KCPP over a year ago. They save so many lives each day! Be patient with the staff, sometimes there is a wait because they are under staffed or they just had to witness an injured animal come in from animal control. KC Pet Project does so much for our community! Thank you for every life you save!!
Empathetic beyond...all involved are truly king and gentle humans who care.
Babies! Adopt don't shop
Great staff. They really care for the animals and don't refuse anything
Wow this place is awesome. The animals are truly loved and honestly cared for. I will adopt from them and I would totally donate to this place and the TOTALLY AWESOME work they do.
They worked with me. They took care of my Buddy Boy while he was in holding.
Overall it's a very good place to find your forever friend. The staff are nice and the animals are adorable.
I could NOT have asked for a better experience in finding my new service dog! Kind, helpful, understanding. I can't praise the ladies who assisted me enough!!
KC Pet Project is a great place to adopt in the KC area. The volunteers and workers are super helpful and attentive. They really care about the animals and want them to get placed into homes that fit their personalities and needs.
Awesome, awesome, awesome. If you are planning on visiting here for any reason, DONATE! DOESN'T HAVE TO BE MONEY. DONATE BLANKETS, PET SUPPLIES and FOOD, WIRE KENNELS, CHAIN LINK FENCING, DISPOSABLE GLOVES...???, OR YOUR TIME. They have so much to offer... Lost pet program, adoptions, veterinary service or referrals to the best specialists, affordable specialty referrals and the list goes on. And their facility is improving and expanding. The volunteers are outgoing, compassionate and knowledgeable.
The staff was extremely helpful, There were so, so many volunteers there to walk all the dogs, while others were cleaning out the kennels. Very well taken care of. There was only a normal dog smell when we entered to see the dogs. There was no urine or poop smell. Quite impressed with how everything ran. We did adopt and the process was quite easy with staff explaining everything. Thanks, KC Pet Project!
The staff is knowledgeable and kind. The condition of the large breed dog holding area was probably as good as can be expected for a shelter that is handling a high volume of homeless dogs. I was especially impressed with the information sheets located on the kennel for each pup. The price to adopt a new fella into your home is very reasonable and they strongly encourage a spay/neuter program before release to new pup parents. Small breed dogs and cats are also available, but I did not go into those holding areas. I should also state that I didn't adopt while I was there, one being I was a ride for a friend who ended up with an amazing little guy, two being I am not a resident of KC and don't know if they allow out of state adoption.
These guys are leading in the no-kill shelter process. There's a much needed new facility set to open very shortly. More room means more animals to care for.
The passion they have for the animals that they serving piece also I love my new son
If you're looking for a furry friend - skip the pet store. Adopt from here!
Now, here's my personal opinion. This place is in it for your money. ( Anyone that knows me knows my dog is adventurous and short of a shock collar I can't seem to keep him in the yard. So in the last year I have had to deal with all kinds of picking him up from SPCA in Independence - twice and a clinic, three individuals and the dog catcher, and PET PROJECT TWICE. ) THAT BEING SAID.... THEY WANTED ME TO VACCINATE MY DOG AGAIN CHARGE ME FOR RABIES SHOTS $60 SAYING THEY COULDNT GET SPCA ON THE PHONE, $25 PICKUP AND IMPOUND FEE AND I WAS ABLE TO PICK HIM UP THE NIGHT BEFORE, BUT THEY WOILDNT LET ME. TWO DAYS BOARDING ALTHOUGH HE WAS THERE LESS THAN 24 HOURS AND I GOT OUT OF THERE WITH PAYING 45 DOLLARS, THANK GOD. THEY SPOUT CITY ORDINANCE, CITY ACCESSES BLAH BLAH BLAH. WOW. THEY SUCK. THE GUY NEXT TO ME WAS ACCESS $100 PICK-UP IMPOUND FEE - mine was $25 because his female was not fixed? Then he was REQUIRED TO GET HER FIXED before he could take her home and if he didn't they would keep her and adopt her out. WTH? OMG .... I could go on and on.... Two thumbs down and shame on them and shame on the city
Great staff, they are very knowledgeable, friendly and caring
Always adopt don’t shop. Staff and volunteers work so hard to give these homeless animals a good life until they find their forever homes. It’s just unfortunate that upper management does not have the same compassionate attitude and lacks appreciation for their employees.
They work so hard to take the best care of their animals. They do really well considering the constraints they cannot control . Facility will be moved and improved later this year.
We adopted our dog from the location at the 95th St. Petco in Overland Park and had to take him back to his location for some follow up treatments for heartworms. They staff are great and they truly care about these animals and their mission. They made the adoption process easy and helped us find the right pet to fit our family and lifestyle.
Great people dedicated to finding homes for as many animals as possible! My advice, visit a few times before deciding, watching your new furbaby slowly open up to you is pretty amazing.
I have mixed emotions about kcpp. I went to visit without an appointment just to sign up to Foster. They say they are desperate for Foster's but it has been over two weeks and I have not been contacted nor have any of my references. I had my eye on a certain old dog that I thought would for sure need fostering. The place was clean the people were extremely nice there was nothing in the cages with the dogs for them to even play with for hours on end and the cages are super small. I know there will be a new facility but couldn't they at least have a toy or blanket I know that's a lot of laundry but there has to be some comfort level.
Nice group found a cat by the the Plaza they took her in with a $20 donation...They said she was lactating but no babies around we looked everywhere.....Heard this p lol ace is close g k May ho look e not where will the animals go???
So many pups. They keep clean. Lots of volunteers
Teyla, Pitt bull mix, was sold by kc pet project. Alive and Happy, Brandon James "took her" back to a cage to suffer anxiety and emotional abuse. No legitimate cause!!! Power and control. I hope she is happy now. God be with her
Wonderful, caring and professional. Excellent orientation and resources for adoptive parents.
The staffs are very sweet and helpful people, they helped to register the pregnant cat we found in the community. I made $20 donation and I wish more people can help them with their operation.
Busy place. Clean facility for the dogs. Nice runs outside for meet & greet with the pup you came to meet.
My daughter did her volunteer work her for her high school credits
Poor costumer service on phone very hateful people. Tried to steal my cat then rush adopt him out without proper time. The place was dirty and smelly heath codes needs to shut them down like ASAP! Do not ever drop an animal thier it is very dirty and over crowded. The smell is enough to make anyone puke. Nast y place claiming to help animals but only cares about money they make through adopting out pets.
Very friendly staff. I love my cat, Ralph. He has enriched my life.
We had an amazing experience here at the main adoption center. We adopted two chihuahuas, Rocky and Bullwinkle who they claimed were bonded and after having them home a month they most definitely are. They had been there a hot minute, but had a very caring staff looking out for them. Upon adoption they told us everything they knew about these two boys and gave us their month supply of meds, a bag a marshmallows (they’re favorite treat) and blankets to make their hour ride home more comfortable. They really cared about making sure these two went to a good home and family, having us do two visits to make sure everyone was compatible with one another. They make sure all pets have been neutered/spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Gave us lots of tips and advice, and said if they were to come down with any illnesses within two weeks of adoption (which is common among shelter animals) they would cover their medicine. It was clean, and I never saw any weird warning signs like a dirty kennel or sick animals like some reviews have said. But of course some of these animals are not going to be their happiest here. It’s a shelter. They have 30 dogs alone coming in a day. I was more than happy to pay anything for these boys, especially knowing that the adoption fee was going to taking care of someone else’s future family member. I’m so happy we went through this no kill non-profit organization. I highly recommend pet project. Thanks for helping expand our family.
Can't wait till I c@n be an adaptor . I am an animal lover and it breaks my heart to see these precious animals be abused and neglected but thank God we have people that care enough to rescue them and care for them unroll you and I can take them home and love them
Absolutely wonderful staff!! We took advantage of the reduced adoption cost over the 4th of July holiday, and though it was a bit of a wait (totally understandable considering how busy it was), the staff were all wonderful and super friendly! I would one thousand percent recommend KC Pet Project to anyone looking for a new four-legged family member❤️
Many adorable animals need adoption. 30$ dogs 10$ adult cats until july14th.
KC Pet project is one of the best adoption centers I’ve ever been to. They take the time to get to know each animal and each potential adopter to ensure successful placement. The staff are very friendly and the volunteers really do care about each animal that comes through their doors. Go check them out today and find your new best friend!
Best shelter in town. We’ve been her many times and they are very helpful and friendly. Don’t bother calling because they are too busy helping the animals and people that come onsite. Just go. They’re awesome. Busy but awesome.
I found my new forever friend here.
Wonderful organization and a great no-kill shelter. Great in helping you pick your future pet. All sizes and temperaments. We were able to get a sweet little girl to complete our home.
I wanted to adopt every pet in the shelter. The staff is helpful and very knowledgeable
No-Kill Shelter. Wonderful People are associated with this amazing company. Clean Establishment. Pretty Scenery. Lots of Fundraising Events. Great Prices for a Great Cause. Weekends are always crowded (for good reasons). Lots of Volunteers Opportunities. Overall one of best Animal Shelters in KC Area!
Needs to provide better information about the pets.
Forms are very easy. I got my cat Aspen the first day I went. There are felines with feline leukemia for free. I didn't have to pay for prior shots or chips.
I adopted my sweet pit bull mix, Stella, from KC Pet Project. Everyone in the facility was helpful and kind. They allowed us time to play with Stella in a private gated area, which was nice since I have a small child who I wanted to make sure she would be gentle with. The entire experience was great and the facility was clean. If you are looking to adopt, visit KC Pet Project!
Very slow but they seem very concerned about the
Awesome place! Everyone was so nice and helpful!
All the dogs I seen, are pit bulls. Nobody just wants just pit bulls
Office is small wait times take forever, need quicker process
Highly recommend this place if you want a pet .
I got my dog either 1 or 2 years ago they were very helpful and they where all very nice there if you are looking to adopt a dog this is the place
The staff were helpful, polite, and caring.
A no kill shelter that serves Kansas City. I had found a kitten that had some odd circumstances as far as finding the owner was concerned and the staff was compassionate, informative, and focused. They went above and beyond and their goals aligned with mine as far as helping the kitten. I was struck by the fact that all the staff were great listeners and several came out of their offices to hear the strange story and they cooperated so well together. They had welcoming smiles and I felt no tensions among them. No one clamored to be heard above anyone else. They are passionate about their work and each other. I can see they apply that passion to every situation they are faced with there.
They are really working hard at this full capacity shelter. The dog techs were excellently knowledgeable and great to talk to about each pup. I'm surprised they have time to walk all these dogs. Other shelters count on their volunteers to walk only behavior-well dogs. Dogs are always upset at any pound or vet. They make time for all. Its impressive, they also have play groups.
The folks (employees and volunteers) at KC Pet Project do a great job of taking care of the animals, and also help you find your new family member. They take the time to walk you through the adoption process from A-Z, and lay out all the little points that you might otherwise miss. They obviously love the animals.
They was very helpful when I brought Max In after saving him. They are also one of the only no kill shelters in the area. Thanks again KC Pet Project for all your help in Max’s situation and I will be in soon to Volunteer to help walk some dogs.
We dropped off a beautiful stray, cost us $20 but it is a no kill shelter. Well worth it !!
Everyone here is 100% awesome they care about you and your pet, they are gentle with you fur baby and genuinely care about your pet, as far as the adoption side the animals are very clean and healthy the adoption crew are are honest and make sure that the pet you pick will fit your family and offer all the help you need to make sure your pet settles in at thier new home!! I would highly recommend this adoption and vet clinic. And always remember adopt dont shop there are plenty of animals in need of a loving, caring forever home!!!
Best animal shelter I have ever been to!
Didn't like how they talked to us, noone could answer any questions and the person that"helped" us was in a rush to leave
Adopted animals from here over the past 4 years. I recommended them to several people. I do not recommend them anymore for simple reasons. 1. The cages of several dogs had dried feces and urine in them. The animals should not have to have feces or dried urine in the cages! 2. The volunteers and employees do not sanitize hands in between cleaning and handling animals which in turn spreads diseases and viruses. Most of the animals have upper respiratory infections. 3. Had a friend of mine adopt a cat which they where not told of anything being wrong with the cat. Had to rush said cat back to the facility where they learned he had pneumonia and had to stay for treatment, the cat died at the facility clinic. My friend was promised a cat of their choice free of charge beings they adopted the other cat and didn't even have him a day. They went back to pick out another cat and was told to never come back. I will never go back to this place because of that.
Dog kennels had dried feces and urine in them. Staff did not want to help people with information on animals. They do not treat animals for fleas etc. When handling animals with URI'S they do not sanitize their hands in between animals so it spreads from one animal to another. Adopted a cat from there that had been at the shelter for a while. They gave it a shot when I adopted it. Not a lot of information on it. It started having breathing problems on the way to the vehicle so I took it back in. Was told the cat would calm down on the ride home so we left. The next day the cat had gotten worse so it was rushed back to kcpet project and later it died. They blamed me for it! It was in their care for 2 days before passing. I was told I could get another cat for free so when I went back they told me no and asked me to leave. Do not adopt from this place! It's a waste of time to even walk in. Very unorganized. Staff isn't friendly at all.
They love the dogs
Turned in 1 dog and had another scanned they were super helpful also went in seeing if my dog had been brought in these ppl were super amazing to talk to!!!
Wonderful people. So caring for all animals
I adopted my adorable little kitten here last week. The staff were very friendly and seemed to care deeply about their pets. They treated everyone with respect and made sure the process was both quick for the people and thorough for the pets being adopted out.
They do great work there. I brought them a couple of kittens that had been abandoned by my house, and they gave me no problems. Even let me keep the cage they were abandoned in because we decided to keep some of the cats
They were amazing. There very informative and only want what is best for their animals they treat them like family and will help you find your purfect match and there animals there forever home.. I got my Breanne there yesterday and shes already such a cute kitty I love her
Bad experience! Went with my adult daughter to adopt a dog. We arrived right when they opened. Wandered for 15-20 minutes through the rows and rows of cages, with no staff in sight. When we asked to meet a dog, no one could be found. "I think everyone's at lunch." Waited another 30 minutes before we were finally taken to the play yard. We fell in love with a dog that seemed to really connect with us, and we took her paperwork up to the desk to adopt. THREE HOURS LATER, we are still sitting in the office waiting, when a young man comes out for a "behavioral consult." After talking to us for 20 minutes and reading the dog's case notes, he tells us we can't take the dog. It seemed like they didn't want this dog to be adopted. I wish they'd told us that three hours earlier, so we wouldn't have had our hopes up and wasted the whole day there. Smelly and poorly run facility.
This is best adoption center that I have ever been to. Normally when you enter a shelter the dogs are all barking, but not here! They were so quiet that I could hear the classical music playing in the background. All the animals are well cared for and loved! I wish that all pounds were like this one!
I had a good experience licensing my pets here being new to KC. It was a long wait but the staff seemed really nice.
When adopting, and you've already met the kitties, be ready. It takes 2-3 hrs in this main location to get your pet. Grace makes it utterly inhumane for adopters, having seen her not even respond to many peoples request for info while waiting. Do I think the mission is a good one, yes. Will I use them again, not ever, ever again. To load people in at a specific time and hold them for this long without so much as air conditioning, shame on you.
I volunteer at the shelter, walking dogs. Love it!
This place is touted as open-admissions but will not even take a stray if you have fed it before. Apparently that makes the stray animal your pet for not wanting it to starve. Once it was finally caught and brought in with more than 2x what they say you need to pay to drop off ($20, we were offering $50 for a donation) we were turned away. If you take an animal here because you are trying to help it and have no other means of sheltering it, DO NOT BE HONEST. SAY IT IS A STRAY YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN OR TOUCHED BEFORE. You WILL be punished for caring and have to make an appointment to give them a dog that isn't even yours over a month away. This is how dogs end up back out on the street. I left today making it clear I have no other place for this dog and cat aggressive stray. I was specifically referred to this shelter because of their trainers. What a waste of time, effort, and gas. EDIT: This is a response from a staff member to another person asking why there is so many pit bulls. Look how they say they are open admission. "3 weeks ago Hi Clareatha, KC Pet Project is an open-admission shelter which means we do not turn any pet away from Kansas City, MO. So we do not control how many come in (which is an average of 30 a day), what breed they are, or even what species they are. We love our pitties at KC Pet Project and work hard to find them homes. We treat all pets equally here and give them all a chance to find loving, new homes. If you don't want a pit bull, that is ok, but you don't have to give us a bad review for having them. For other breeds that come in, you can sign up for a pet alert to get emails when certain breeds come to us. Thank you!" IT IS A LIE. The small dog I brought in with a 50$ donation was caught in Kansas City! Right down the street from their shelter on 51st Terrace! Listen to my advice and DO NOT say anything about the dog. If you think you are helpful for bringing it in yourself, trying to keep it comfortable, feeding it -- you are doing yourself no favors. These people would prefer you take a gamble that it be found and call animal control apparently, even if the dog is perfectly friendly. Remember: if you do take in an animal: "I've never seen it before, I don't know what it's like, I have to get to work," ANYTHING to make it clear that's a stray you need off your hands and you are not responsible for it, only trying to get it safely to the shelter. I was threatened with being charged with animal abandonment for a stray that was as sweet as sugar to people but vicious towards other dogs and cats. I have pets of my own so there was no way I could bring her into my house, I thought I was being nice bringing the stray in with twice as much money as required and even a some general information on the stray's temperament. I screwed myself trying to do something nice! Never again! I used to love helping strays in my city but now I just frown at them and hope someone else takes care of it because the "rule" they've made up that claims feeding a stray makes it your pet makes me afraid to get involved. Good luck strays! Animal lovers beware! Leave it up to the "professionals". If you think this isn't the full story, you should have seen me red-faced with angry tears arguing with the woman behind the counter about how STUPID that policy is. I got the dog adopted out with the help of a family friend NO THANKS to this trash heap. She now lives with a big group of people, no other pets, and two little boys to love and adore her! How hard was that?? It was actually really hard for me trying to keep her away from other animals for everyone else's safety! But I was forced to, considering my only other option was to let her die out on the street. Y'know, the place she CAME FROM. Would have loved for her to have safe space to wait for adoption but we made due. Again, it was so much hassle I would never do it a second time -- I was the silly one under the impression a rescue was a resource, but it's really just a money farm where they want the easiest dogs to adopt out.
They helped me a lot when my dog was murdered by the kcmpd.
READ BEFORE GOING TO ADOPT A CAT HERE: We visited for the $25 4th of July sale and expected to go and find a young cat to take home. When we got there we were taken to a room with about 15 cats in it. We were told that most of the cats had medical issues or behavioral issues (which we were not wanting) Some cats wanted to be pet and would rub up against the cage but when my family and I went to put our fingers in to scratch them we were scolded like children and told to not put our fingers in the cage. We were not allowed to hold or pet the cats because apparently “cats don’t like to be held” How is one supposed to know if the cat is a good fit or if they’ll like it if they can’t interact with it? We were looking for a very lovable and friendly cat but we were not allowed to have the cats out of the cage so we would have never known. We finally had enough of the scolding and left shortly after. If you want an adoption experience where you can get to know the cat intimately or even pet/hold them do not go here. My 9yo niece left in tears after a worker got on her for trying to touch a cat. They kept saying that the Zona Rosa location has more cats but it doesn’t matter if one is not allowed to even put their fingers in to pet the cats.
Great place to go to look for a cat/dog. The service was friendly. They were super helpful in showing us the cats. Where we ended up taking home 2 kittens that are purrrfect for us. They're growing and are healthy. And they're spoiled! Please go and adopt. They probably have what you're looking for.
Tired to adopt a kitten today was told that I couldn’t get it because my first one was stole.. the girl was loud an very rude to where I wanted to cuss her out but I politely left with my kids crying because they couldn’t get the kitten I will never go there again
A lot of needing animals for love
Please do not include the photo of my dog(miniature fox terrier) at my apt with your facility photos, that I included with my review. My dog that I had 10.5 yrs, had rigor mortis when I brought her Feb.25th and I requested a call if she came out of it and alive again (I think she is genetically cataleptic and has survived rigor mortis before, but it was a slower process this time), but instead I got all kinds of weird calls and behaviors from people who worked here who are not eyewitnesses, who are not who they claim to be(ie not a medical officer). I worry about my dogs further health and safety. They try to cover their tracks, but they are all liars, even the volunteers, lack good character and a college education for maturity. These people cause angst for attention. This project should be shut down. Upon visiting again July 22, 2019, I see the place badly aired, the pets traumatized and all the staff to have incorrect perceptive ability. One girl seemed to be mistaking hissing for aspiration in her tale of bottle-feeding and none of these people are benefitting towards wellness either. Only well-educated Christians deserve authority, jobs, and opportunity.
We didn't have time to make an appointment to drop off a pregnant stray cat, didnt even matter to them the volunteers and workers here were so kind and took her in gladly and we knew she was going to be in a better place and they were going to find her a forever home!
I love what they do here and they love pitties
DditoThis a the place you want to go if you want to adopt a dog. They are knowledgeable, kind and honest. Out pup has mad a good addition to the family.
Love the work they do and best place to volunteer!
Love my new little guy!!!
Super nice people. I recommend this place to EVERYBODY who reads this post!! Such adorable animals there as well. My mom and I were currently fostering a kitten and come to find out, he died of FeLV (or Feline Leukemia Virus for those who don't know what FeLV stands for) but we ended up going back today and adopted this sweet baby girl named Little Bit. She's a year old and they did test her for FeLV and she came out negative for that.
You'd have more luck striking gold than reaching them. They NEVER answer their phone!
They do such great work and have some of the most knowledgable staff. Go see all the sweet kitties and puppies. Adopt an older dog or an older cat. Make a life better.
Great cause. Friendly people
This is a very good place to adopt your next BFF God-bless the dogs at this place
They're very responsive. Animals look well taken care of. Nice staff. Working well with Customers
Waiting time Sunday is but I love what they do!
This company has the rudest people working for them. I recommend finding another place to adopted a pet.
Special 25 adoption fee aka no donation the real fee's
This place was disgusting... almost every “run” that a dog was in had pee and old poop and the poor dogs were walking in it. No one seemed to care or even clean any of it up. I know that is a lot of cleaning to do, but there was so much pee and poop it was ridiculous and smelled so horrible. No wonder all the dogs in there were sick. The volunteer that helped us was not very knowledgeable about dogs. Wanted to sell us a sick dog even though I have other dogs... just over all a very discouraging experience.
Teresa Johnson and her devoted team have made this former “house of horrors” into one of America’s leading shelters. Their dedication to socializing and adopting out homeless animals has received well-deserved recognition nationally! Let their terrific staff match you with the perfect pet TODAY!!
How could anyone possibly give any more than one star to this awful place. The cages are way to small and the place is filthy...then they want way to much money to adopt a dog. It's inhumane.
I really enjoyed the compassion the people had for our shelter dog Tito. Tito was afraid and aggressive when we rescue him. The shelter folks said he just needed the correct environment, quite, no children and a lot of attention. They were right!
I was welcomed and thanked for dropping off a donation. They were busy but seemed organized. Some employees, there, had their own pets with them to be at work. Their pets seemed excited.
This facility keeps dog in their cages for 23 HOURS. As other comments point out, dogs sit in their own feces and are neglected. The staff are very unprofessional as well as aggressive. Expect to wait hours for any help or paperwork to be done. Top that off by Grace (front desk) who ignores you and treats you so poorly it’s almost laughable. They base if they will adopt to you or help you by what you look like or if you “ask too many questions”. I watched a member of staff, named Gale, shove a women through a door and rip papers from her hands... the women was simply asking questions about adopting. The lies they told were a cycle of gaslighting filled with aggression. It’s almost like they treat customers like they treat the loving animals there. I am utterly shocked by what I’ve witnessed. This shelter should do better or be shut down, after all we are only looking to get a best friend/companion to make our lives brighter.
This is a no kill facility that takes such great care of our abused and deserted animals. They have lizards, pigs, chickens, as well as cats and dogs
I had a good experience at this heartwrenching place. So happy their are loving and caring people in the world. I took home a abused and then neglected pit bull and was talked to and educated about everything they could tell me. Answered all my questions and weren't pushy despite being very busy. Go, find your new family member like mine, Ruth.
I was ready to adopt a dog from KC pet project. I called several times to see if the dog was compatible with cats. They never called me back. If he was compatible I was ready to put a deposit. I left my number with several employees. Checking several times a day to make sure he was still available. I will adopted from kc pet project the staff are amazing in person but lacking communication. The dog got adopted and went to a great home, I WISH it was my home.
Love what they do for all the dogs, cats and all animals. I will continue to adopt from there.
This shelter is clean, well organized, and staffed with FANTASTIC people. From the volunteers to the professional staff, they all demonstrate a caring attitude toward all the animals. Every person I encountered knew the entire history of the group of dogs they worked with most often. They have vets, and behaviorists, and trainers available to help facilitate a smooth transition for dog and adopter, and these folks seem committed to helping make every home a furever home (to the best of their abilities). I can't say enough good things about KC Pet Project.
We had a Lost pet they help us get our pet back
These people do an amazing job at helping dogs find a suitable home and life. We found an amazing little one with their help and are very grateful for the service they provided.
Not a bad place to adopt although wayside waifs is better! Better animals there and a better facility.
Have been working with them for years. A great community service and desperately needed for our community When you are ready to volunteer, adopt a pet or want to donate time, money or materials please visit them. They are a "No-Kill" shelter. Stop by and say hello to a new friend
Always a great place to find loveable pets. Please do your homework. These animals deserve a great forever home.
We recently adopted a dog from here. Awesome dogs but terrible staff. They lied to us about multiple things when it came to the health that the dog was in that we chose to adopt. They sent her home to us with a “small cold” and “no medicine was necessary as she would be over it in a few days.” We take our new adopted puppy to the vet for the first time 2 days after receiving her and she is diagnosed with a bad case of pneumonia, causing her to be hospitalized for 2 days and hooked up to the IVs. While in there her stool was tested and she was positive for 2 different kinds of parasites. Not only did they send us home with a very sick dog who they claimed to be in good health, they claim to deworm all puppies/dogs yet she was tested positives for 2 different types of worms. We paid $250 for our dog only to turn around and have to pay nearly $700 out of pocket because of the lies we were told when adopting our new dog. They stated said they can’t reimburse us for any vet bills, all we can do is bring her to them and they can finish off any more care that needs to be done for her. But we opted out of that because we do not want to put our dog in the care of people who do not care and have lied to us previously as well as place our dog back in the same place where she got sick to begin with. As I stated before tho, great animals there but the way the staff lies to you is not right. I would never recommend this adoption center to anyone nor will we be adopting from here again in the future.
Foster mom told us our rescue rabbit was checked out by a vet with a clean bill of health and was "fixed" ... but when we adopted we got no paperwork showing either of these. Made establishing vet visit problematic. Customer service after adoption was horrible.
The KC Pet Project does the beautiful work of operating a nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter and they do not turn away any animal regardless of age, behavior, or health. I have taken many strays there and felt at peace that I had helped give the animal a second chance at a happy, long life by putting them in caring, professional hands. I recommend the Pet Project to anyone who has recovered a stray animal, and to anyone looking to adopt a pet. The staff is kind and helpful to the people, and loving to the animals. I have never been to a better animal shelter.
I got my first cat here last month and I unintentionally went during a free adoption event. I thought they did quite well with people management and assisting me in locating a cat. I ended up only looking at one cat because they helped me find the right one on the first try. I used to be an adoption facilitator volunteer at a different humane society in a different state so I'm familiar with the adoption process from that end but this was my first time adopting a pet as an adult. I thought the team did an excellent job at handling a large number of people. Taco is the right cat for me and I will gladly return to KCPP if at any point in the future I decide to appt another pretty
My ms.puffins (Subaru) now lol was the greatest gift we got, they have excellent volunteers.!!!! Adopt today, this site genuinely cares for the animals. Zona not so much.
Amazing what they are doing for these pets.
Great and caring organization! Facility was impressive, staff was caring, and the animals are cared for.
Edit: spent 800 on this cat in the less then a month I had him he died today even after his 3 vet appointments, his new carb reduced diet and insulin shots every 12 hours he just couldn't make it past not receiving insulin for over a month. This place won't answer the phone to take him off the return schedule or answer my calls. I adopted a cat a week ago they have had him in there care about a month he was skin and bones at petco he was dirty and greasy. He started peeing everywhere they suggested he might have a uti I took him to the vet (another 50 dollars) he has diabetes they then wouldn't accept the cat back for another month but don't worry they will waive the 20$ fee to release not give me money back for them not caring about him and letting him slowly die They wouldn't give him medical care for another 7 days with a blood sugar level of 610 and a urine count of 4+. They say they care about animals but they don't this poor little baby could die if I don't spend hundreds more on insulin on him because of there neglect or wait a week for him to be seen by there vet. No sympathy at that place for this poor little baby I have a special needs child and a baby and can't take care of him I adopted from this place to get a cat that was already cleared from big medical problems since they have a on site vet.not to have to pay hundreds for him for the week before he can be seen at the place that released the sick baby to me. Terrible human beings they are pure evil and uncaring when they found out he was diabetic, I was crying and they just said well he's adopted not our problem
Stop taking random dogs away that are just roaming around!! Must of them know how to get back home
The people are so nice and the animals are well cared for. Consider adopting, volunteering, or donating to this wonderful organization!
After submitting the application and several phone conversations, a visit was scheduled. I drove 45 miles to the appointment; reached out for help to locate them as there was significant road construction and limited access; only to have them tell me someone else adopted the dog. This rescue is not unlike others in that they are slow to process applications and communication is limited, only to find out the dog you were inquiring about was adopted while you were jumping through their hoops.
Nice, caring people
They were amazing at explaining about my cat that I adopted and showed other animals that was there and told me which has ones would be okay with dogs and cats or just cats
Loved this place.....however one of the ladies was extremely BOSSY..... I was telling I dog to sit loudly due to the very loud barking around me.....I wanted said dog and wanted to see if the PUT BULL could obey basic commands......the Lady heard this and decided to Yell at me saying they were traumatized dogs and I explained to her, well attempted to that i was partially deaf from the military and she wouldnt hear of it......awesome that she cared about the dogs.....however if I being partially deaf and want to take home a fragile Beautiful PITBULL It has to be able to understand me or at least accept me......and in fairness to the lady I HAVE TO BE ABLE TO ACCEPT THE DOG AS WELL.....BUT there was a much better way for her to handle that situation like getting MY FULL STORY..... I loved the front desk side of the adoption area they were able to place us with a wonderful dog and they offer way better follow up care then most commercial kennels.....IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A FOREVER DOG GET OVER THERE THEY NEED OUR HELP THEY ARE AT CAPACITY AND HAVE SOME WONDERFUL LOUD LOLOL AND NOT SO LOUD DOGS WHO WOULD LOVE TO COME HOME WITH YOU.
Great place; caring people doing all they can to help every animal that crosses their path. My favorite shelter I've ever been in! If you need help with your animal's health, training, care or just want to save a critter in need; This is the place to go!
Wonderful people that are so willing to help you, amazing animals that are looking for forever homes.
Drove to see your facility and it was closed. Nobody in surrounding area knew about it being a shelter. None of men in National Guard next door knew about it and no cars were in parking lot in front. This was during weekday work hours. Where are all the animals going???
They took very good care of my dog well he had to stay at their location. Each person there was very helpful when it came to information as well as calming me down because of his extremely emotional at the time.
It was okay. Staff did not acknowledge potential pet owners and did not offer any assistance. Once we inquired about particular dogs they were helpful. Very keen on protocol, which I like a lot. Many, MANY dogs at this location, just not a lot of available dogs, which was disappointing. They almost all send to be unavailable until a certain date. Checking online availability or a call to the center before a visit will be helpful before you go, unless you're just looking.
Took home a dog that we were told was sooo cat friendly and blah blah only to get him home to have him try and attack our cat and then snap at my face and try to aggressively jump me had to lock him in a room till my husband could take him back. I understand the need to find these dogs homes but lying about a dog temperament to get them a home helps no one and puts family's at risk.
First time to a shelter so I don't have anything to compare this place to. We went during a special so it was a 2 1/2 hour experience. There is very limited seating so we were standing the whole time. We were the for a cat and looked at what was available online first. This was helpful once we were there. The volunteer asked us what we were looking for and focused our attention on kitties that fit our parameters. All pets adopted are spayed or neutered. Most pets are microchiped. They do not declaw cats and do not want you to either. The paperwork and education session was quick and painless. I checked the paperwork a couple days later and I did not receive the health record like we were told we would get. I called them but I have not heard back yet (which we were told could take up to 2 weeks to get a call back). We did receive coupons for Petco that gave us a bag of free food and free kitty litter. My daughter insisted on looking at the dogs even though we were not going to get one. We didn't even make it down the first row before leaving the dog area because we were crying. It was so sad seeing so many dogs in cages stacked 2 high. It was a large room so the were a lot of dogs and it smelled of feces.
They were very nice and they were willing to answer all of my questions. The smell was bad but what do you want when you go into an animal shelter.
My little girl found a tiny kitten in the Quik Trip parking lot. We had no idea how old she was or what to feed her so we took her here and they gave us some kitten food and even gave her a flea treatment and de-wormed her! Bless their hearts! Best. Place. Ever.
Amazing place ,dogs are well taken care of
I adopted a dog almost a year ago, and my experience hasn’t been great. The shelter gave me a dog that’s extremely aggressive. He has bit my mom twice, he bit my brother and it’s hard taking him to the vet and to get groomed because he tries to attack anyone that touches him. I called the shelter and told them what was going on and they advised me to enroll him in training classes through them, well that never happened because they called and canceled because there was a problem with the scheduling and they never called back. I didn’t take him back because I figured if I worked with him things would change....well here we are almost a year later and he is still highly aggressive. If I try and get him to go outside or come from under the bed because I have to leave for work he growls and snap at me because he is very sometimey. I just wish the shelter would have been more honest, helpful and not just trying to get the $275 I paid for him.
Great people doing great things
I adopt two cats Bruno and Cheeto this was my first time having any pet in my life they maid me feel happy about getting them and when they got sick I brought them back and they gave me medicine for my two boys.
CAT ADOPTERS BE AWARE: I adopted a sweet little cat from here and the staff were all friendly and, I thought at the time, informative. However as some time passed the "little upper respitory infection that should pass soon here are some eye drops" didn't go away. Turns out that it's a herpes virus infection, and I could be looking at a chronic lifelong problem. Never once was it mentioned that the infection might be viral herpes virus and could possibly be chronic. And they definitely suspected it was viral, they had her on oral lysine powder for a while. So if you are looking to adopt a cat from here do more research. If the cat is having any upper respiratory problems be cautious. Ask more questions about it.
I have a new shelter pet. I helped her have her 7 kitties, took her to Pet Project for spaying, I was wanting her back and they let me know when I could pick her up...just the Mom. Acclamation with my other shelter kitties is ongoing. I love them all!!
I was needing help to surrender animals but they could not help me. I didn't want to give them up but the Landlord stated that we couldn't have them
