The staff here are wonderful! I have used several different vets in Starkville and this is hands down the best I’ve been to. The receptionists are extremely helpful and will give you any advice they can. Super helpful and super friendly place!

Very disappointed in their ability to handle large breed dogs that are afraid of the vet. The veterinarian seemed very knowledgeable about his practice. However, if you have a difficult large breed dog, I would not advise this office. I adopt rescue dogs that usually need behavior training. I've used a veterinarian out of state prior to moving to Starkville that would go above and beyond to make sure my rescue dogs received medical care in the safest way possible. No efforts were made to accommodate a very scared but sweet dog.

I love these guys! We have had a LOT of dogs, and they are all like family to us. The doctors and staff at Starkville Veterinary Hospital understand this. They treat us and our dogs with compassion and concern. I will continue to use them forever. None better!

Update: I have had positive experiences boarding my dog here for short periods. The front desk staff is friendly. From calling around, prices for vet care are just higher here in MS. We recently moved to the area and I went here because of all the good reviews on google. I was disappointed. My dog was skittish and anxious to leave the entire time even though he loved our last vets office. Something must have smelled off to him. Then the assistant walked in and stuck my dog with vaccinations with no explanation to me beforehand. He was given unnecessary shots even though I had proof his shots were mostly current. An unnecessary fecal culture was done without asking as well. I was told my dog needed to come in every six months for physicals, cultures and heart worm checks despite no history of problems. I also have the prices from my previous vet and they were almost double here. The vet barely talked to me even when I asked questions.

I always receive excellent, friendly service here. The staff and the patients get along well, and the staff are always ready to answer questions or give suggestions. Many of my friends bring their critters here too, with equally good results. Unreservedly recommended!

The staff was very nice and helpful. They treated my cat appropriately and provided me with just the advice that I needed. However, I was appalled when the younger doctor gave my cat anesthesia because he was having trouble putting my cat into his cage. I wasn’t in the exam room when it was done, because one of the nurses took me out to fulfill some documents, and I was not even asked for consent. This happened after 5pm and close to closing time, so I guess they were in hurry, but I feel that injecting a pet with anesthesia without the owner’s consent is extremely inappropriate and unprofessional. Anesthesia has the potential to kill small animals. Besides, not only was I charged for the injection, but the doctor did not even give me a clear explanation about how to treat my cat after he woke up, how long it would take my cat to stabilize, what could be some potential side effects, etc. I sincerely wonder if the doctor would have done the same thing if I were a middle aged white male (I am an Asian female). Last time I visited this vet, the older doctor’s proper treatment of my cat gave me incentive to visited here again. This time, however, I had this terrible experience which strongly tempts me to say that I will never visit them again, especially if the younger doctor is in charge.

I've been seeing Dr. Shy since he joined the clinic and appreciate his patience in careful diagnosis, patient and clear explanation of the diagnosis and alternative treatments. He is great to answer my questions and has my complete confidence.

Dr. Shy and staff were absolutely outstanding! When my cat needed a slight emergency procedure done I was able to bring her in as a first time patient. Allie was so sweet on the phone and reassuring. Dr. Shy kept me updated throughout the day. I could tell my elderly cat was loved on and taken care of while she was at Starkville Veterinary Hospital. They have gained a new patient, and I will definitely recommend them to all of my friends with pets!!

Dr Anthony and Dr. Shy are not only incredibly caring vets but know SO much about pretty much anything that could be going on with your animal. The office staff is incredible too. If there's an emergency (or you're so worried about your pet that you think there is), they'll move schedules around to see your pet immediately. And it's obvious that everyone there truly loves animals.

I absolutely love Starkville Veterinary Hospital! The staff goes above and beyond to take care of my needs and to make me feel comfortable with any procedures that my dog Cici has to undergo. I never worry because with them I know she is in good hands. All of the staff is so wonderful and knows me so well, they know Cici, and they are aware of our needs.
