I had to have my rottie, Jazz put to sleep today. My heart is shattered. Dr. Dawson and the entire staff was so compassionate and understanding. I didn't know what to expect and my Jazz is my baby, my heart dog. Walking in they were immediatedly sympathetic and accomodating. They asked me for approval for every detail including if it was ok to leave her on the tarp and blanket we brought her in with. Jazz had an accident on the way there, I asked for something to clean her up with. The tech said she would take care of it for me not to worry and she did. She cleaned her up right before the procedure telling me Jazz deserved her dignity. The procedure was quick and peaceful. They gave me my time to be alone with her, we were not rushed. They got her in and out of the car and wrapped her in a blanket per my wishes. Truly dedicated, compassionate staff. And I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping to make this painful experience a little more tender.

We had an emergency situation this weekend while on vacation at Higgins Lake. We called South Shore Animal Hospitals emergency line and Dr. Dawson was able to see us very quickly. We were very impressed with Dr. Dawson and how efficient he was with his diagnosis and his confidence to treat the situation. Highly recommend Dr. Dawson and his staff.

I’ve been bringing my pets to South Shore Animal Hospital for over 22 years and they have always given the best care for my babies. There’s always the veterinarian on hand to see my pets whether I’m bringing them in for vaccinations or when they don’t feel well. My doggy “Winter” had gotten sick and they got him in the same day to see the doctor, how awesome is that, and he’s doing so much better now! I’m so grateful that we have a professional veterinary service here in our town in Houghton Lake!

Everyone, doctors, technical staff, and reception, are very professional and knowledgable, warm, friendly, caring, and treat furparents and furbabies like family with respect and compassion. Very accommodating. Services are reasonably priced. Office and treatment rooms are clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend these vets.

Very good in all aspects, New owners seem to love animals. A little high priced in some areas,ie nail trimming, some medication but are willing to work with you. So far so good. It is nice to have a vet who cares and is close by.

We are so impressed with this vet every time we visit. Everyone on the staff is so incredibly patient and caring with our VERY nervous basset hound. They take time to calm him and get him comfortable. They are able to trim his nails which NO ONE else can do (our previous vet tried anti anxiety meds and eventually had to have him put under which we did NOT want to have to do repeatedly.) Besides the wonderful care, they are also reasonably priced. I only wish i had switched to this vet sooner!

Shame on "BARB THE CLIENT CARE SPECIALIST" what a joke of a title she has!!! She was SO VERY RUDE,UNCOMPASSIONATE and ARGUMENTATIVE . Dr Dawson is wonderful but if she don't learn some compassion and respect she WILL ruin it for him.

Dr. Annette and the entire staff is do competent and caring. We are summer residents and our 16 year old yorkie became very ill. They got us in immediately and had her treated and diagnosed within an hour. They were so kind yo my husband and I. I highly recommend this clinic for quality furbaby care!

Staff was very rude, snobby and unprofessional I was trying to get help for a 11 week old puppy with a broken back. End result. staff hung up phone saying take him somewhere else then. Very disappointed in this vet. I suggest, If you love your animal listen to the lady and take them somewhere else

Outrageously priced. Over $500 to have an 8 month old Chihuahua fixed... A 4 day wait to have a 13 yr old Shih Tzu, dying from painful aggressive cancer, put to sleep... They care nothing for the animals. They only care about the money. My friends dog was attacked by another dog and they wouldn't even see him, even though he was bleeding all over my car & their floor, unless they were $800 up front... This place sucks. I take the 45 minute drive and go to McBain to Stoney Corners.

We just picked up our cat, Rambo. He had ingested sewing thread which blocked his intestines and required surgery to correct. He stayed at South Shore Animal Hospital for three days under the care of Dr. Christensen. She was exemplary in keeping us informed about his surgery and during his recovery. Cost for this was not cheap but was completely in line for services this extensive. I would highly recommend Dr. Christensen and all who work at South Shore Animal Hospital for their obvious love of animals and the superb care they gave our cat.. Thank you for saving our beloved Rambo.

I called to get my pup in because his eye was red. They got him in immediately even though they have never seen him before. The staff was so kind the entire time & answered all of my questions. (I had a lot) The Dr took the time to make sure I got all of my questions answered and that my pup get comfortable the whole time. I would recommend everyone to come here. The people there are really nice. Dr. Dawson is great! Lilly needs surgery to remove a mass from her eyelid and he explained the procedure to me so that I could understand. I appreciate that very much. Great place to bring your fur babies! My girl had her surgery today and did great. Dr. Dawson talked to me when I came to pick her and and explained how it went. I am so happy with the quality of care and customer service at South Shore Animal Hospital. They are HANDS DOWN my choice over my very popular city vet. I now consider South Shore to be my main vet for the care of my 10 year old cat.

Very friendly and compassionate staff! We take our 12 year old lab to see Dr Dawson. Dr Dawson has helped us with multiple complicated issues with our dog and one of our cats. He spends the time to explain everything and gives you every option possible. He is compassionate and knowledgeable. All of the other staff are great also! They are kind and loving toward our pets and I feel confident with the care provided.

These people are the absolute best. The staff is so welcoming and friendly, they remember not only your name but your pet's as well, which I imagine would be quite the feat. My girls are treated like the staff's own pets when we visit. Doctor Dawson is amazing and so friendly. They may be a little more expensive than some other vets, but I will gladly pay it for the kind of treatment myself and my girls get when we go there.

After hours clinic just refused to see my mom's dog who is covered in porcupine quills because they aren't their "regular" vet. They recommended they drive to Saginaw or Traverse City. Its 11 o'clock on a Saturday night, and their regular vet is on vacation until Monday. You can't become a regular patient during emergency hours?
