What a joke this place is!!!! Oh my....visiting my elderly parents with a last minute emergency, so I’m not from the area...anyway I needed my dogs prescription dog food, which I had a prescription in hand for and they refused to sell me the dog food! Absolutely refused. I also asked if I had my vet call to confirm prescription and they still refused. They said not unless the see my dogs. Talk about a sleazy way to get money out of you...thank God for U30 Wellness center for selling me the food I HAVE a prescription for! This is just about making things absolutely ridiculously difficult for no other reason then greed!

Great place super caring

Newly moved to area last year was recommended by neighbor. It is ok, not always easy to get appointment. Very pricey. Staff pleasant. Place clean, no overnight staffing if pet needs medical observation.

Evey experience I’ve had at this place has been met with hostility. The secretaries were extremely rude, likewise with the, “veterinarians”. The whole check up felt like a money grab: having a surgical option forced on me for my pup when it was not needed. I recommend Salmon brook a hundred times over this, “hospital” any day.

Very caring people. I had to put down my little cat Salem. Sabrina was awesome and everyone made me feel comforted. Thank you all for helping us make that heartbreaking decision.

When our dog came down with a severe rash on New Years Eve, even though they were booked, they fit us in and got her on treatment. She would have been a mess if she had, had to endure it until Monday. I like the place. It's clean and the people are professional.

Most caring staff. I've always been extremely happy with all aspects of this animal hospital. An example of how wonderful they are... i recently moved to Kentucky and it was time to get my dog fixed, i took him to a local vet and was really disappointed with how rude and cold the staff were. When i left with my dog i heard a person complain about their dog receiving the wrong medicine. This worried me so i called vca Southwick... they took the time to confirm my dog was given the correct meds and go over directions for them, she asked me questions about how my dog was acting and then explained what to expect from my dog for the next few days. Getting their feedback truly calmed my nerves. Thanks VCA Southwick! Yall are the absolute best. I wish every vet practiced in the caring and compassionate way you do.

We called to make an appointment same day and they had availability. The employees are thoughtful and considerate. The doctor we saw was very thorough with her explanations and care plan. We intend to make this office our primary office now. They answer their phones when you need them the most and that is very important to me. They are well staffed to handle the community and have a very positive attitude about what they do. An update to this: we recently had to put our dog to sleep at this facility. They were kind, caring, compassionate, and genuinely expressed sorrow for our loss. They gave us all the time we needed, explained what would happen as gently as possible, and treated our pet with the utmost dignity in her final moments. We intend to adopt again soon and bring our new family member to this office. They have a customer for life.

We had have had mixed experience at this vet. Our first visit, a routine checkup with our Bengal cat, went well. Our little guy gets very scared at the vet and it takes a steady, confident and calm vet to treat and examine him. This visit is the only reason our rating is not a 1-star. Unfortunately, we went there last week due to persistent vomiting and diarrhea, and while we got an appointment right away, the service and bedside manner left something to be desired. The Vet lacked empathy and was indecisive throughout the visit. Both the Vet and the veterinary technician were immediately timid with our cat, to the point where they wouldn't allow me to remove him from his cage and instead disassembled the cage and put a towel over him. They then examined him for about 10 minutes by forcing him to the table with the towel. I can understand this, as no one wants to be bit or scratched and they don't know our cat well enough to know how he might react. There, I feel the reasonableness ceased. The Doctor presented me with several possibilities, including a foreign object blockage, an infection or an upset tummy, but would not commit to a diagnosis. From there, she asked how we would like to treat the cat, despite the fact that I have no veterinary medicine training and despite the fact that she had made no recommendation up until this point. When I asked what she would do if it was her cat, she suggested that he be anesthetized and examined via xray. I immediately said that we could do that, at which point she altered her recommendation and suggested that we could give him an anti-nausea medication and see how he felt the next day, thought this would mask the symptoms of a blockage if there was one. I found this odd and pressed her, and it turned out that they were simply short handed and could not do the xray. I then asked, "so you're suggesting the best course of action would be an x-ray, but you don't have the time today?" From there, she left the room and came back a few minutes later and said she could do the xray, but that she wouldn't be able to keep a close eye on him after he was anesthetized because she had other appointments. It was at this point I felt the care transitioned from lackluster to unprofessional at best, unethical and unsafe at worst. Why would you suggest anesthetizing an animal and follow that up with, "but I won't be able to monitor him closely." She could have simply explained that they were short-handed from the onset and recommended that we visit an animal hospital. Instead, she flip-flopped with her diagnosis/ prognosis based on her schedule and availably, and quite frankly did not demonstrate significant concern or any empathy. We won't ever trust this office with the medical well-being of our pet again - certainly not in an emergency. As it turns out, the medical staff at a regional animal hospital identified a high white blood cell count and a possible GI infection. Unfortunately, our little guy is still in the hospital....

This is potentially the worst run most customer unfriendly Vets I have ever in my entire 20 years of owning animals encountered. 1) Their record keeping is atrocious, our spayed female dog is listed as un-spayed despite (most of their vets there probably can't even tell the difference) 2) They could not even schedule a rabies vaccination ( for one of our cats correctly) again despite being reminded repeatedly what the appointment was for. In fact I would not trust them to do anything with an animal because they don't review charts or check anything before an appointment. In this case they even blamed us from not getting the appointment right this was after the 1 hour wait without apology ( they were short staffed but never mentioned it when we arrived ) when we complained and demanded to see the office manager they called the police ( yes seriously apparently complaining customer have no right to ask to see who is in charge they can waste hours of your time and charge you for the displeasure of it with no recourse) . But all that pales into insignificance when we get to the veterinary ability of their vets. We originally went because of Dr Klaiber who is excellent but unfortunately has been out due to injury for months and months now. The other vets there should not be allow to treat worms let alone cats or dogs. Our Coon hound was taken in repeatedly for blocked anal glands, symptoms included rectal bleeding general stiffness, difficulty defecating, and loose ribbony stool with blood in it. Visits resulted In the same I dunno answer every time ( often with and expensive antibiotics treatment for an anal abscess ) The symptoms got worse until a final call where we asked for an appointment because things had got so bad. They didn't consider it urgent and offered a vet tech appointment some 4 days later. That weekend we were at Boston Road Animal hospital in the emergency department where one quick exam had the Vet telling us he was suspecting cancer in the anal glands in and advanced state. Cody did not even last the week from there and the biopsies confirmed cancer and metastatic disease. Boston road was awesome where Southwick had missed all the classic symptoms of this condition multiple times. So if you want routine shots and expensive annual check up and no diagnostic skills or interest in your animal this is the vet for you. If on the other hand you have a pet you value find another vet.

My pets (current and past) have been patients of Southwick Animal Hospital going back at least 30 years. As the years go by, there have been the inevitable changes in staff and in the facility itself but one thing has remained constant; the high standard of medical care and the caring compassion of the staff. My cats literally enter the office purring! They are never stressed by "hospital smells" or the vibes that animals sense and we humans do not. Even my 2 rescue cats who are normally wary and timid are relaxed and comfortable with the caring staff members of Southwick Animal Hospital. The veterinary charges for services provided are fair and reasonable. I have always been well advised of various treatment options and never felt pressured to treat an animal beyond what is reasonable or beyond my ability to pay. As long as I reside in this locale I shall always bring my cats to VCA Southwick. Special thanks to Drs. Cosgriff and Gentes.

I am no longer taking my dog to this location. The last 4x I went i had to wait 20 minutes past my appointment time and they didn't even appear busy, just me and maybe one other patient. Its a minor annoyance for me, but my poor dog is so uncomfortable in that environment it pains me to see him that anxious with the shedding, panting etc, and never mind if other patients are there it becomes an event in itself. Fees and item line charges: When I become a pet owner i understood the inherent financial burden a pet can be, it's just part of the bad that comes with the good. Every time I go I feel like i'm dealing with the financier at a car dealership, just constantly being questioned, prodded and interrogated on what meds tests hes done even when hes current. It's never enough they are always scheduling follow up visits, tests and more tests. Yes, i understand they are in the business of a healthy pet but a lot of it is simply not needed, they are in the business of having you return and creating a high ticket avg per customer. Every time i go they always add a physical exam to my bill, even when my pet was JUST THERE A WEEK AGO. Its unnecessary and insulting to me when they "just want to be sure hes doing ok!" yeah sure, whatever jack up the price some more. They don't even clip his nails unless i directly ask them to. There are good vets and techs employed here but based on my experiences through the years the VCA is just too profit oriented. I'm going to seek other options for my pet's care.

Every time I have an appointment they are late taking me. I usually call before leaving my house to see if they are on time. Today I didn’t and waited for 30 minutes past my scheduled appointment time. My two cats weren’t happy and neither was I. Complaining did nothing but get a “sorry”. Totally unacceptable. It’s rude and disrespectful. Even worse was having to wait an additional 15 minutes to pay my bill. I should have just left. They don’t respect or value their clients at all. Looking for a new vet if anyone has any suggestions

Ashley Boyle

I had a very hard decision to make with my sick cat and the vets and vet techs could not have been more accommodating and loving to my seeet kitty as we decided to stop her suffering. Such a great place highly recommended

I moved to Southwick a year ago from NJ and have visited VCA three times with my dog Honey. First for her annual which I got free for her first visit and then Second for a vaccine off schedule which I only had to pay half because it was off schedule and third for when Honey got a cut from something on her rib cage and they didn't charge me for anything but her cone and ointment. I was skeptical about VCA because back home we had a local vet and this is a large commercial chain. But the staff at VCA is great and the auto ship service for Honey's flea and tick and heartworm medication is awesome! Overall I have had a 5 star experience at VCA!

I have been going to Southwich animal hospital for 9 years. It was a much better facility when it was privately owned. They only seem to care about running tests. One time I brought my healthy dog Gunner in and they ran all sorts of test that came out negative because he was a healthy dog. My bill was over $500.00 . I let that go and continued going. Now my dog is having an issue so I was unable to see my vet understandable, but the vet that did see him only works on Friday so I had to wait a week to get the results. Finally I said I would like to talk to my regular vet after all I'm the one paying the bill. But no I wasn't allowed to so needless to say I am getting Gunners records and going to a privately owned veterinarian for a second opinion and hopefully some fast relief for my poor pup. I am a hairstylist in two salons and all we do is refer. Never a good idea to upset a busy stylist!

I am extremely disappointed and upset about my experience here. I brought my dog here with a high fever and lethargy. They sent us home with nothing but “I don’t know” go to er vet if the fever gets any higher. Needless to say the fever got up to 105. Brought our dog to a different vet and they started her on doxycycline which was very much needed. I asked to speak with the practice manager and was told she would call me back and she never did. Extremely disapointrd with this practice. Will never go back again

They remember my dogs name and not mine, love it!

They are knowledgeable but there prices are very high. They tried to charge me $3500 for my dogs surgery. I went somewhere else and was charged $700. For check ups and routine exams, I recommend them

They said they could fit us in because our cat was not well. Fitting us in meant waiting ONE HOUR without them knowing anything about when we could be seen and then telling us it would be ANOTHER HOUR after the woman said to "come in RIGHT AWAY " when I called the clinic. Not happy, would not recommend. A waste of time.

I have never been dissatisfied with the service the facility has provided for my dog. As long as I've been going there I have not seen the same vet more than once but I have always been asked if I'd like to see the same vet (I chose not to because it works better for my schedule to take certain openings). However, last time I went in there, I could tell the vet who had taken care of my dog at the last visit took good notes. The new vet knew exactly what types of treats my dog preferred and what worked best with my dog. Because my dog has grown increasingly protective over me, the vet could not perform the exams necessary as he wouldn't leave my side. The vet was very patient with him and although she eventually had to take him into a back room, I felt confident that his care was nothing less than extraordinary. They try their hardest to adapt to your schedule and are always very welcoming upon arrival right up to the very end. I highly recommend bringing your pet here. You won't be disappointed.

J

I actually feel confident in bringing my cat here. The vets are competent, caring and polite. They have a great program for people who can’t afford 800 or so dollars all at once and it allows you to pay monthly.

Denise Dorazio

I brought my newly adopted 2 yr old Chihuahua for stitch removal. They reviewed his file and said wait 2 weeks and sold me on some vaccines that seemed important. They said I needed to return in 3 weeks, I did. They gave him boosters. And the skin healed over the hard plastic stitch and it hurts when you touch it, it's been 4 months and I was looking through his records and found he already had the shots. My recommendation DO NOT GO!!!!!!

The Very worst in general. It is vca. They do not care about your pets. The look of the place is to ensnare you. Do you think your pets care what the place looks like. They employ the most incompetent Vets ,but the most facile liars!. They will do anything for that extra nickle except, of course the right thing for your pets. Learn from my mistakes, or please, do your research for your pets sake. They dont use purevax. Try that thread for starters, but there is so much more. I could write a book! If you see a sad looking cat being used as a prop chances are you have wandered into one of their hellholes. Ask and If they say they are vca with a smile, turn around, you are better off at home making another appointment at a reputable Vet. Beware of pushers of product and "wellness plans" They Don't miss a trick in their greed . They do blood tests weekly if allowed and cant even tell if your cat is blind and their bowels impacted. If you dare complain out loud ( and this happened to a friend not to me, and not the one whos poor dog had the passed from undiagnosed anal cancer cancer either see that review I would "like" it ,but I disagree with the part about Boston road being exelellent they are equally bad ,see my review of Boston road vca))they threaten to call the police. That is how the office manager handles complaints apparently. Really professional. Lest the illusion of a good place to bring your animal be spoiled. Response to owners response; The self serving twaddle one has come to expect.... "Are those,Pussy Willows" ?this is not even a good place to bring a loved one that has passed, as they can not be bothered to call when your loved ones remains are ready to be picked up, and want to paid before they will even begin to fetch them from the backroom. That's their spirit of trust and mutual respect at play for you.mutual trust! I don't if I should gag, or cry first! Dedicated your lives?? Like you are Mother Therisa, or something! Hah! Like I said.said.Nonsensical, self serving twaddle! Go write some more good reviews of yourself! I am sure they are the only good ones out there " Frustrated" ?Really! You don't even know how emotions work. What a suprise! That's sarcasm by the the way,j ust in case you are having trouble identifying that one.I have just given you the gift of a mirror. Now ,look into the abyss! I have no more time for the likes of you! I am Heartbroken

I have been taking my dogs to VCA Southwick for about eight years now. Not only have all of the vets been excellent, their staff is really outstanding with my "problem child", Milo, who is an absolute terror at the vet. In handling him they are non-judgmental, creative, compassionate, and bless their hearts, actually have more of a sense of humor about it than I do! The front desk gals are always pleasant. My other dog, who mercifully, is very sweet at the vet's needed surgery on her ear. The vet who did the operation was honest about the other options for treatment, cost, etc., and ended up performing a very creative solution that gave a great result. I have always recommended friends and family to VCA Southwick.
