First impressions are the building. It's a insanely open, and welcoming building, unlike most vets. They offer 24 hour care at the same price no matter the time. Fresh air is circulating inside. Veterinarians where fast, calm, and professional. I would highly recommend.

My Dog Bailey spent 2 nights in ICU and her stay went very well. When I first pulled up at the facility it looked like a regular Hospital for humans, I walked in and said to myself this is for animals, I was ready to give up my job as a nurse practitioner and work here instead the doctor that triaged Bailey was very warm and friendly and explained everything to me and the doctors and staff in ICU were exceptional, I received a text and a picture of Bailey every morning and the doctor called me every day to review her labs, procedures and how she’s doing and I was able to visit her in ICU. I would highly recommend this place, it was my first experience and a good experience.

I have taken my cat to this facility for a few years (as well as the Quincy VCA). And I have been very satisfied with the care and practitioners here. The missing star is for the odd fact they didn't seem to have a painkiller in stock that my cat needed, and therefore he had to wait for it to come in the mail...that was very odd. However, otherwise I have felt both my cat and I (emotionally) received loving and expert treatment.

Took my dearly loved 16 year old cat here. The staff was very caring and kind. They were very compassionate during the process to euthanize my poor sick Annabelle. I will return to the VCA for many years to come. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to animal health. You helped my cat pass on with dignity and love.

They cost a bit more but provide amazing and reliable care

In past experiences...10 yrs ago...our experience was not good: cold, inflexible protocol driven, and expensive, a sort of McVets but $$$. This go around w a dog 3 yrs old in need of a specialist, the challenges of a smaller closer vet practice stood out. The care at VCA positive in almost all ways it hadn't been before...still trying to suss out the cost factor. May change for all our vet care here.

You decide, I wasn't happy at all. Luckily my dog came out okay. We brought our dog in with a cloth toy piece stuck in stomach and metal pipe cleaner (we assume) in his intestine. The Dr stated they could do endoscopy to get the cotton but the metal was a concern so they suggested emergency surgery that night to cut the intestine and the stomach to remove both. They never cut the intestine and only cut the stomach. When I asked the surgeon that night about the metal he stated he never saw the x-ray that was taken and only knew about the cloth toy. We were then told oh the metal will likely pass okay as if it was no big deal. We did pay but very unhappy, just wanted our dog back.

I wish I had read your review before I took my bird there last night. I hope they haven't killed him they don't have any experience with birds--they lied when I called They changed their fees--got me for 500 and haven't done anything but observe and some oxygen--I just don't trust them they are money hungry--do they even care for these animals--the whole veterinary profession needs looking into

Took my dog Kao to VCA and they saved his life. They are very thorough, honest, yet compassionate, and professional. Can not say enough about Dr Cornetta. It is very emotional with animals, and I am a high strung owner! I will always be grateful for what they did.

We have been taking our dog Keegan to VCA after our regular Vet (who was very good) said we needed a consult with a specialist. We went to VCA for specialists for just over 2 years as they guided us through Keegan's various ailments as they came. Yesterday, he crossed the rainbow bridge and the staff was caring and patient with us and made his passing more bearable. Great Vets - every single one was a gem. Over 2 years we saw a cardiologist, oncologist, and 2 neurologists. All gave good advice and helped Keegan stay with us as long as was humanely possible. When it was time they helped us to accept that as well. We were seen many many times and were always given a quote with a price range and we never had any issues. Just wish I had known that we could have had them send the bills to our Pet Insurance company 2 years ago - would have saved me some paperwork. But the fact that they can submit the bills to insurance for us - made the last couple weeks easier. Special thanks to all the supportive wonderful staff that helped us through the process and Doctors Morrison, Segaloff, Berthiaume and Weiss(who helped us on the last day) Thank you so much.

We arrived there today, the day before Thanksgiving, with a very ill cat that we knew might have to go kitty heaven. We were immediately taken to an exam room and my sweetie Shinshin was evaluated. As we feared, we would have to say our final goodbyes. The staff were amazing and so understanding of our sadness and loss. They took good care of my sweetie in her final hour and I thank them more than words can say. Thanks for being there for us and taking care of Shinshin in her final moments. The Brown Family.

Every time we have gone here the bill is astronomical and very recently we got a new puggle puppy whom has some viral cold like thing she had gotten from the Pet Express store so we brought her in for tests and they estimated everything out to around $600.00 just for tests so we had to go with the minimal treatment for the puppy who is still sick and being treated with antibiotics. Not at all happy as I called there and the staff always comes off as inept and take forever pulling up info. It just seems like they play off a role of needing all kinds of tests done and charge crazy prices for everything or else your not giving your pet all they need.

My cat passed away at VCA... All I can say is this, they were compassionate. I am a healthcare provider. The staff embodied everything healthcare should be about. Thank you for the kindness..... I will never forget the gesture.

This place just wants your money, don't go here.

I will say, the VCA takes extra precautions that sometimes may not be necessary. But, I think for our pup, I would prefer the additional precautions over the alternative! So many vets do not give the best attention… But at the VCA, they are all ears and more!

I recently had to put my Sweet dog Gracie to sleep. The staff there were so compassionate and gave me as much time as I needed. Very undertanding and kind. Thankk you.

Called to get my cat who had a stroke put down. I live in a household full of disabled people, myself included at the time. I was told over the phone they would put her down it free of charge. Upon arrival I had to pay, I got this far at 11pm so I figured it could not be too expensive. Before I got a price they took my cat and put an iv in her and had me sign a promisary note for an amount I was not told until AFTER I signed. This is ludricus and unprofessional, they are lucky I don't get legal matters involved. I have no income but I'm being forced to pay about $300. This place is bogus and full of lies.

I brought my dog there about a year ago for skin irritation and was referred to the dermatologist. She believed it was a food allergy and dog was put on special food to determine what was causing problem. When that did not work it was diagnosed as an environmental allergy. She was prescribed steroids and special shampoo. I told the doctor that my daughters dog had same symptoms. Doctor told me that was impossible. Daughters dog was seen in Marshfield and diagnosed with scartopic mange. Prescription was given and dog improves. Told doctor and she said i will give you medication but it won't help. After my dog took medication her condition improved. My dog suffered for year and my checkbook also suffered.

I had to put my 15 year old Pug down yesterday, they were very caring and compassionate. They weren’t about money I don’t know why everyone comment that, they are there for the animals. Thank you for taking care of my Khloe in her last moments, she going to be tremendously missed

I was wary of coming here based on the spotty reviews, but have to say I was very happy with my dog’s treatment. Great vet/staff that patiently and clearly laid out all my options, were great with follow ups, and facilities were top notch. Yeah it’s probably a little pricier than other places, but if your pet is facing life-or-death at midnight (like mine was) and everywhere else is closed...well, people have to be willing to pay more. Would totally recommend others come here.

Worst experienced my life. I rushed my 12 year old lab in this Friday after he had acutely stopped being able to urinate (overnight) and within the hr had not been able to stand. I was visibly upset, yet Dr Markel came in the room, stated he had a herniated disc causing complete paralysis making him unable to feel his lower body which was causing him to not be able to urinate. She stated MRI, and surgery would be 8-10K and may not be worth it due to his age so I should consider putting him down. I began to disagree with the diagnosis since he was walking around all morning and was not urinating and asked her to call my Uncle (his primary veterinarian in NY for consulatation). He spoke with her and asked her to treat him with a catheter to relieve the bladder (he felt there was a blockage), muscle relaxers and pain medication for the back spasms stating he needed cage rest. She refused. I asked for the catheter at a minimum so I could transfer which she continued to refuse stating it wasn’t sterile. Two hours went by while he continued to suffer. I finally received a secondary consultation from the neurologist who showed that she was incorrect and he was not paralyzed. Finally put the catheter in, which in her words gave difficulty and was “gritty” but yet didn’t run blood work or ultra sound to identify a blockage but instead decided he had spinal cancer and had had a stroke?! After I stated I wanted him released and I wanted to transfer him to my Uncle they continued to make degrading comments to me as though I was mistreating my animal. They made me sign an AMA. She brings in a syringe of blood to show me they removed it from his bladder further upsetting me (for what purpose) and finally released him. The tech (female) was clearly disgusted that I was moving him and continued to make snide, nasty comments to me while trying to put him in my car telling me I was doing more harm. Charged me $300 for a consultation that was incorrect and a catheter after refusing to treat him for almost two hrs while he was in excruciating pain. After finally arriving at my primary veterinarians it was confirmed he had bladder stones blocking his urethra...over 20 removed and will require surgery to remove more. Was septic, and the pain caused by the stones was causing his back to be thrown out. Had we catheterized him and removed the block (which could have been identified by a simple blood test as his BUN levels were high) we could have prevented the sepsis. He is walking (no paralysis, like her misdiagnosis), but requiring a lot of antibiotics and rest. I am so disgusted. Caused so much unneeded grief, pain to my dog which she treated like nothing more than a piece of paper. She received a consult from a veterinarian with over 40 years experience who knows this animal her ignored it. Had I been someone who intimated easily I may have followed through with her advice of putting my animal down. NO bedside manner, terrible medical protocol, and ZERO professionalism between the doctor and the technician I encountered. I wish there was a way I could prevent her from practicing medicine I am beyond disheartened. My dog still remains in serious condition but is stable getting the attention he deserves no thanks to the utter stupidity of Dr. Markel. DO NOT GO HERE!!! Use ANGELL. I have heard many other experiences just as bad, please I have been heartbroken for days, worst experience of my life.

My friend brought her 6 months old bird here to be treated for burning injuries. At first, they said that the bird needs to be hospitalized because he wasn't doing well and we trusted that they would take care of him but they never did. They DID NOT know how to feed him and all nights updates were different then the morning updates. After that and after spending thousands of dollars- my friend decided to take the bird back home. “Dr” suggested that the bird needs to stay longer because he was NOT doing well but we just knew that at this point we can NOT trust VCA and will NOT keep paying thousands and thousands. When the bird was brought home he was doing EXCELLENT and was eating just like normal. How interesting is that?????? Didn’t you just say they he needs to stay longer because of his health condition? How come he is doing GREAT after we brought him home???? Are you all about money or caring for animals???? Can someone explain???? The bird was killed after a follow up appointment with VCA. Not sure what exactly they did to him but all we know is that the bird SUFFERED while he was there. If you love your pet and want him/her to live please please please DO NOT take him/her to VCA. Worst place on earth to go to. NOT recommended- NOT Suggested and I advise all of my family, friends, co-workers and people that I don’t know but share the love of animals to NOT go to this place. They will keep taking $$$.$$ from you, making your pet suffer; just like what they did to my poor friend.

I cannot stress enough how wonderful they have been with me in the wake of losing my dog. I brought him in orignally becuase another vet was terrible and i wanted a second opinion. They were timely and sweet the entire way through. Every staff member i came across was incredibly kind. My specialist was available by email and would reply within a few hours. Sadly, because of my little one's failing kidneys he fell extremely ill within the week of my orignial appointment and i needed to bring him into the ER. We did some tests and found there was no other option but to put him down right then. I cannot stress enough how wonderful the bedside manner was. The vet walked me through and answered every questions with such empathy. They gave me all the time i needed and moved me to a room that was easier to walk out of. I was suprised how little my bill was and i realised because i had to put the dog down they did not even charge me for the emergency room appointment. I have recieved a card in them mail with personal notes from both doctors and again this morning i got the sweetest voicemail letting me know his ashes were there. When i get a new dog i will go no where else.

The staff at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital were very good to us and to our dog that we had to put down. They were pleasant over the phone and the Vet explained everything that was going to happen. They made an unpleasant experience so much more tolerable.

(This review is based off my experience with Dr. Prantil, the nutritionist). I consulted with Dr. Prantil for my dogs nutrition and I was not disappointed. She is very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. She is willing to listen to you and your concerns regarding your dogs health and nutrition. She is clearly up to date with the current research regarding nutrition and veterinary medicine in general. If you want to go with a homecooked diet or just to take her advice on what commercial food to give your dog/cat, she is a great option. The receptionists were also pleasant and I had no issues with them. Overall satisfied experience.

The nicest, most considerate, 24hr emergency care around!

Totally disappointed in my two experiences with VCA. We brought our dog there with issues with her stool, and very lethargic. After staying overnight, we were contacted by the Vet that she could come home and she would discuss the results when we arrived. She let us choose the time to meet, and when we arrived she had already left. The technician gave us a very vague analysis and prescribed several "just in case" medications. We were quoted an outrageous total of $1,600, with no clear definition of what they would be doing to help our dog. We just left with a whopping $2,000+ bill with no answers to ANY questions. My poor dog is walking even slower than when we brought her. Absolute money grab!!!

I have twice brought one of my dogs in for late night problems. First was an allergic reaction. 2nd time two nights ago my dog was bleeding from a sibling tussle. Each time I feel that the care received was exceptional, and I did not feel I was up-sold on unnecessary items. The cost was shockingly reasonable, and now I am considering moving the regular care of all 5 of our dogs over from Banfield in Braintree, where I feel a constant upsell, and less availability. The VCA Weymouth also feels very comfortable and professional for visitors, rather than crammed and in the midst of a pet store.

They lost my dog to pneumonia. They actually said when the vet came to work the next day he was already needing rescucitation. How stupid is that? They said there is always a vet around! Also I told them like I told VCA Quincy that he does bad with antibiotics given without care and they kept saying they need to give him more - even topical. THEN they listen to my partner and I through the intercom while we see our dead dog for the last time. Instead of waiting the normal wait for cremation, they call us hours later to pick up ashes... when they heard we wanted to investigate this abnormal death. How do we know hey were listening? The intercom in the corner had a blue light and indicated someone was listening. When we shut it off, someone came in to “check” on things. Then the vet shows up too to talk to us. The death certificate had the wrong name on it. The bag had the wrong name on it. The stupid card the questionable vet sent to us had the wrong name on it too... what a disaster phd facility.

Staff is great. They are full service and there is staff on site 24/7. You can get anything taken care of there that has to do with almost any kind of pet.

cheryl casey

Not sure where to begin but the vca is the Isis of pets! Unfortunately my bird was attacked by my German shepherd & it's wing was damaged. And my only recourse was to bring her there because it was 24/7 & one of very few places that takes birds. Here's my story: I brought the bird in Wednesday at 4pm they took the bird immediately without saying anything & left me to fill out paperwork. After standing in the lobby for 30 minutes & NOT BEING CONTACTED BY ANY STAFF I was finally called into the exam room. I was met in there 15 minutes later by a vet tech asking strange questions. She left a few minutes later saying that the Dr would be in the next few minutes. Dr came in 10 minutes later & the first thing I was shown was an estimated bill with a minimum & maximum cost. Still have not seen the bird & was not told what the chances of the bird survival was. Being a beloved pet of 20 yrs I agreed to the estimate to save the bird. I was then escorted to the pymt desk to pay $1422. Deposit that maxed out my care credit I then left with them saying they would update me the following day. They called Thursday afternoon after surgery & said, the bird made it through surgery but then was told she was doing well but was in a lot of pain. They said they had to give the bird oxygen & pain meds every 3 hrs then was called back a few hrs later & told the bird was still in alot of pain & they were going to give it pain meds every 2 hrs instead of every 3, like they said earlier. During this call the vet said that she would have to stay longer than expected from 2 hrs previous. I told her I couldn't afford the extra charges for staying longer than quoted. She responded, "put it on your care credit card". I then responded that my care credit card is maxed out from the deposit of $1422, she then responded " go borrow it from your friends". I said i did already & she said that she would ask if they would let me make pymts but they usually dont allow that. I was then called back 2hrs later telling me that the bird was deceased. After telling me the bird was deceased she then said immediately "what time today will you be in to pay your bill"? I did not know how to respond, after a minute i told her i was unable to be there because i was at work. I would be there asap. I asked how much my bill was & she replied she didn't have that info. I asked because i needed to know how much to bring/ borrow before I got there from work. Had to callback again to find how much I owed. Returned on friday after work to pick up my deceased bird. I was met abruptly by the billing dept for payment, made the remaining payment. Was handed an empty car carrier & my receipt with no bird. A few minutes later a staff member asked if I was all set, no I'm missing my pet. She said hold on & walked away a few minutes later another staff member emerged from a different door with my pet. I left $2000 lighter & with a deceased pet. In conclusion: how did they know my bird was in more pain? Did the bird speak??? Why the decision to go to every 2 hrs from the original 3 hrs on such a small bird causing it to go into cardiac arrest. I think they killed my bird with pain medication. The bird was supposedly doing fine according to them every 3 hrs with pain meds then almost immediately they switched to every 2, again, did the bird tell them? I think they guessed with the amount of pain meds, & guessed wrong. With the bird dying shortly after the switch. I will NEVER return to this place & tell everyone i know don't go there if you want your pet to live!!! The heartlessness & non caring of the staff is crazy and these people should be prosecuted of crimes of inhumanity! With great disrespect, Alan Smith

I only have positive things to say about the staff at South Shore Hospital. I've taken all my pets there for the last 20 years and just got home tonight from a vist. We adopted an 11 year old cat with digestion issues. Instead of recommending hugely expensive tests the vet evaluated those run by the shelter. Also before recommending medication, additional tests or expensive food he recommended we do a common sense tactic first. VCA maybe slight more expensive than other vets but the services are worth it!

I had great experience with the many vets @ VCA WEYMOUTH treating my K9 Jenny that had auto immune deficiency disease while other vets said to put my dog down. After many trials of meds they found a remedy that would make her quality of life better from 1 year to 13 years. Doctors worked endlessly to find the right meds and gave my K9 the utmost care & love and quality of life. To my former beloved Jenny. Thank you VCA and staff who treated Jenny for auto immune deficiency disease.

While it's true that payment at animal hospitals will always be a very disheartening problem, and it is also true that most animal hospitals will function first and foremost as a business and will try to get as much money out of you as possible, they are trained professionals. My cat was hit on New Years eve but did not die from the hit. It appears that he was only clipped. He was struck in the side of the head and he was bleeding heavily down his face and into his nose and mouth. He had swelling that we feared would kill him if it had gone to his brain. He was losing consciousness. Being in a family that has quite a few doctors and nurses, we understood that if he had brain swelling or bleeding, his chance of survival would be incredibly slim. Luckily for us, the VCA is open 24 hours, including New Years Eve. We traveled from Plympton to Weymouth and brought him in, hoping there was anything we could do. The bill they presented us (along with a payment plan) was, indeed, astronomical, but we had decided upon going there that we would not decide whether our cat Frito would live or die based off of a financial decision. Honestly, I personally didn't think that he would survive with the amount of blood he lost and how long he had been unconscious. We had assumed that he had entered into a coma. We left him overnight and we were updated the following morning that they had given him painkillers to make him more comfortable, they had cleaned up his wound, and they had managed to take down a good amount of the swelling. He is still there and currently undergoing more tests to check for internal damages, which is a completely reasonable test. The reason for the high prices are primarily coming from the fact that he will need dental work, as he has a few broken teeth as well as a few loose ones. Not only did they save his life that evening, they may be able to save his eye as well. As long as I've lived here, I've seen plenty of pets, not just my own, die to the road we live on. The speed limit is 35 and people are always blowing by at 50 MPH. I'm incredibly surprised that not only did my cat survive the hit, but the VCA was able to treat him. I know other people have had some sour incidents with the VCA, but people have sour incidents with every single animal hospital out there. With the bills taken into account, I can firmly say that I give the VCA a 5/5. Hospitals will always be expensive (in this country anyways). My family is so thankful that our cat is now stable and is thus far improving in condition.

End Times

In the end it all comes down to who can pay and who can't.

My beautiful dog Teddy fought his last battle and was gently put to sleep last Saturday. Whereas the vets were very nice, I had specifically requested that my dog be transported to Angel Pet Cemetery for private cremation, I was shocked and horrified to learn that he was being held hostage at the Hospital, in a freezer for the sum of $102!! I am out of the country, and they were well aware of my wishes for my dog, this is so unacceptable and hurtful. The did not notify me that they were ignoring my wishes... I am distraught..

UPDATE 4/4/2014 Since my review below, one of my cats got seriously ill in the middle of the night. A doctor saw my cat the min my husband walked in the door at 12am. Short Story short, he passed away and the doctors there helped make my cat's last mins on this Earth, painless. After my cat's death, they sent a very thoughtful and caring note. We still continue to bring our other cats there...my main issue is still their fees, but like another vet, they are always going to be high. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This place is AWFUL...Every doctor and tech is just AWFUL with their communication skills..but are great asking you for money. Two examples: Cat 1 1. Going to pay $500 to have my cat's teeth clean..I called the office to see what time the vet would be in to make an appt. I was told 2pm..I call back at 2pm and guess what, the Vet is now out for the next 3 weeks..to call back then. Good thing my cat wasn't dying. Left a message for the vet to call back when they return to make an appt...never heard back. Cat 2 2. After paying over $800 for blood work, scan, etc, etc. we were going to move forward with a biopsy and the Vet said he call the next day to set up an appt. After NOT hearing from the Vet, I called many times to ask when I could make the appt...never received a reply. 2 WHOLE weeks later, I get a reply from the vet that someone will call to make the appt with me...3 days later, no call. I just took my cat someplace else where they actually 'value your time' and will call you back. So in short..They never follow up with phone calls because they don't know how to use a phone or listen to voice mail?!?!?! Sorry if I am paying over $1000 for one cat and $600 for another cat, I want you to reply to my damn phone calls. DON'T GO HERE!

I can't say enough about the quality and care of South Shore VCA. I brought my cat there from the time he was a kitten until his final visit at the age of 21. The staff, technicians, and doctors have always been professional, realistic, and caring when discussing the health of my cat. Our veterinarian would even call the house to check up on Kitty. When it came time to bring in Kitty for the final visit, everyone was so caring and sympathetic. They helped give my cat a good life and a peaceful and pain free death when it came time. I would absolutely recommend South Shore VCA and plan on taking my future pets there as well.

Worse place to take your pet to. If you want you pet to suffer or die then take them there. My baby bird was doing GREAT then I took him there for a check in appointment. They took over $3000 from me and then killed him on the same day. They are all about $$$. They know NOTHING. If the system would allow me I would give them 0 star; they don't even deserve 1 star. 1 is TOO MUCH for this place. Place where animals suffer and be killed. To Respond: Yes, Dr. Bernstein did call me yesterday (4/18) and told me that my google review was to "Trash the Hospital" He also refused to give me my $$$ back when I explained what happened exactly and when I explained how VCA killed my baby bird. He was very rude on the phone and this shows what kind of people work for VCA.

I just heard the horrible news that my pet had a tumor in her bladder, making her incontinent. The risks associated surgery outweighed the positives and so we had to make the horrible choice to let her go even though in all other ways she was a happy dog. Dr. Perry delivered the news to me and did so in a very caring way. There was no judgement when I called back to say that I wasn't going to move forward with the $4,000 surgery and the staff were kind when I brought her in to say goodbye. This was a gut-wrenching experience and I am forever thankful that the staff didn't make it harder by making me feel guilty for my choice. I am thankful for the care they were able to provide while she was alive. Thank you to the staff at VCA.

My dog is currently there and your trying to charge me an extra $500 to pick my dog up at 5 when I was told he could leave in the morning. At 5 it would be an hour extra over 24hrs . You people are disgusting charging so much just to hold my dog an extra hour just so you can make a quick buck. You people are gross taking advantage of loving pet owners knowing they'll pay for their loved ones .

Have a rabbit that got an abscess. Was told hard to treat, but started with medication. Didn't work. Was told surgery would fix her if I gave up on the medication route. 3 days later it poured out of her stitching. Was told they were going to then go to surgery once a week. They didn't give a timetable and said one person needed up to 7 surgeries. They expected 2 more surgeries the last 3 surgeries. The next surgery was a COMPLETE waste of time. They added a pack of medication that had 0 effect on the abscess. Instead of waiting for the lab results to find out which medications worked best, they would rather guess and cost me an extra $240-$300 in one week for more guess work. They add things that weren't on the original estimate to run the bill higher like food syringe and IV without consulting. My rabbit has been eating and dedicating perfectly fine. It cost me almost 100 dollars for both the food and the IV (food was about 35) and the bag of food injection from them was about $65, so 50% of the cost for 1 serving? I've also only used that bag a few times because I thought it was required for some reason, but again, she's eating fine. She ate a whole bowl of kale the second I brought her home. Now, when giving her pain meds, I noticed what looked like flea dirt. I called at 830, left a voice message. Called at 2 p.m., left a voice message. Called at 8pm, left a voice message. Called at 10 p.m., left a voice message. At 11 p.m. I finally got a call back to bring her in. Explained how it's impossible she would have gotten fleas anywhere else. They reassured their facilities are clean and that it could be flakes or whatever from the surgery, but offered to check her in the morning. No mention of costs. Was under the impression the consulting wouldn't be a problem. I get there and they give me an estimate of $71 to just see her(she could not have fleas, but it looked like flea dirt) and $31 for treatment if necessary. They have falsely led me down this path of almost being cured a few hundred at a time, now down over $2000 since September with no end in site. Now they can't even just check her for fleas they may have given her. I will never come here again once this is settled.

My bunny passed away today on the way to the VCA hospital. I wasn’t sure what to do so I continued to the facility. The staff was beyond helpful and compassionate. Everyone from the empathetic girl in the reception area, the veterinarian and the kind person who did post care on our bunny made the tragedy more tolerable for myself and my daughter. We can’t thank you enough!!!

My cat was having incontinence around the house with spots of blood! I brought him to VCA because I had to work the next day and could not bring him to my vet within their regular hours and definitely didn't want to wait. They saw him right away. They did an ultrasound and said he might have bladder stones (VET said she isn't a radiologist but that's what it looks like). He did not have an obstruction. She gave me all the options from imaging, testing, and possible surgery. They were able to get a urine sample, took labs, and sent him home on antibiotics and recommended prescription cat food if the stones were present and would get back to me with the results. What also impressed me is when I asked if I could have paper towels to clean out the cat carrier (since my cat gets scared in the car) they said they would do it...which they didn't have to. In the end it WAS expensive but I don't think emergency services are cheap! I don't like it but it's the truth. If you want to risk your pets health you can wait and see but I wouldn't have done anything different. I'm grateful that I have an accessible, 24 hr pet hospital near my house and would not have been able to get care for him if this facility wasn't there.

Want your pet to be killed? Then take them to VCA for sure and without any hesitation. Want your pet to suffer? Then VCA is the prefect place for that. Want a place that they pretend that they care? Then VCA is the place. Want a place where they care only about money $$$$$ even if you are short on $$$$? Then VCA is the place, they not only not care but animals BUT the option to kill your pet is the only option that they know. Not only that- they will contact you if you leave a “trash” comment as what they told my co-worker when she openly and honestly shared her experience about this butcher place.

Lisa LisaZ

we had a great experience. My dog is a biter and after his surgery they kept him a day longer so that he could get IV pain medicine so I didnt have to worry about him biting when in pain. They called me with updates and were so kind to me. I would sometimes call the desk to check in and they always took the time to talk with me and check in. I never felt rushed. I have pet insurance and have not done comparison shopping so I can't speak to the price issues others have written about. I just know we were treated with the utmost respect and they took good care of my dog. I cannot thank them enough as they took good care of me too!

First off, if I wasn’t obligated to select a rating I wouldn’t. I would actually select the most negative rating possible... but that isn’t an option so here’s the reason why... The details of my last few weeks dealing with the VCA have dragged out to be a painful, tragic & extremely insensitive due to the lack of communication and inexperienced between the staff. Bruschi’s Story: Thursday April 5, 5:41 PM: I received the news Bruschi has a heart condition causing massive fluid in his chest and abdomen. Friday April 6, 9:22 AM: My parents made phone calls for second opinions. Friday April 6, 11:26 AM: He died during the procedure to drain the fluid.

I have no idea how these people sleep at night. Fat cat money grab institution that does not care about your pet, instead cares about your money and how much they can grab from you. Got a second opinion to prove that they were taking advantage of me.

The only reason why I'm giving one star is because they have emergency services that are open 24/7. If you do not need emergency services immediately, look elsewhere. Here's my story: My dog has epilepsy. He is also my world. We're struggling to find a medication regimen that can control his symptoms. Unfortunately, every two weeks (pretty regularly) he has an episode of cluster seizures that can last from 1-3 hours. At first we were bringing him in every time it happened but that's just not feasible for me to do anymore, financially and personally. I'm struggling to manage this at home since the medications they are prescribing him are not working whatsoever and I have no effective medications to give him in emergency situations either. I've mentioned this to them on multiple occasions but it goes on deaf ears. The VCA Weymouth's philosophy on managing his disease is prescribe the bare minimum and wait until something serious happens, and then scale up with more treatment. Unfortunately that is not working for my dog every time he suffers through the seizures or for me to constantly worry about his well-being and how I'm going to afford to bring him in again. I'm not sure why his case isn't being taken more seriously.. he is my baby and I feel like I have zero support. I'm really heartbroken by the treatment he is receiving and the unsympathetic attitudes of the staff who work here.

We have taken our dog there 2x. First experience was mostly okay as they were able to cure my dog of a nasty bacterial infection. I did not like the way the nurse or tech treated me when we went to leave. My dog is big (mastiff) and i had trouble getting her into the car. The tech said somethong like "why would you have a big dog if you can't lift it." Oh really? I'd like to see you lift 150# of anything on your own how about my dog is doped up and i need a hand not judgment. My more recent experience with VCA was much better. Dr. Little was wonderful and very understanding. She worked with me to ensure my dog got the best care and she helped to allieviate my concerns. She really seems to have the pe5 and the pet's family's best interest at heart. Expensive bill and i wonder (after reading other reviews) if they are taking advantage of emotiknal people. I'd like to think not. HIRE MORE DR LITTLES PLEASE!

As far as vet ERs go, I rate this very high. It's clean, staff is nice, and the whole building was redone a few years ago- very nice to look at. They're open 24 hours, and are equipped to handle all emergencies. Many normal vets (and especially the ER ones) usually smell awful, and are filled with grumpy/insensitive employees. VCA South Shore has remarkably friendly staff who makes an effort to understand that your pet (aka your baby) isn't doing well, and does their best to help. Only downside is ER care comes with a hefty price tag, but that's usually the case with all facilities like this, and knowing that everything could be done there for my pets if needed helps me justify the costs a little.

dee stro

Very friendly, staff/doctor great. We had an emergency with our 12 week old am Bully, made us feel like family even though they're not our normal vet. Highly recommend.

Outrageous Prices! People need to start coming out against this place and their pricing. My dog was seen for a eye scratch. They charged me $150 for less than 10 minutes of being seen and some eye drops that cost 5 bucks online. Do the math! That is $900 an hour!! My god. Its time that trained professionals here started caring about animal and not profit. Its sickening! The worst and saddest part is I assume the people here got into the business to care for and help animals. The insane high prices and the cold corporate feel actually causes the opposite to happen. PS, just saw the reply post from them. So gross.

This place will give my family nightmares for a long time. My wife dropped our 4 year old cat off Tuesday morning to have a tooth extracted and the rest cleaned. I brought him home that night and he was never the same. We had to bring him back Friday night because he wasn’t eating. He was barely moving. They said he had heart failure and there was very little chance he’d live. We were all in shock including the doctor saying this was very rare. She said there might have been and infection that traveled to the heart. We questioned why they didn’t give antibiotics. All of a sudden after a few hours I feel like they regrouped, came up with a story to make them look good and they started to say that he had an underlying heart condition and the anesthesia killed his heart. They said his heart was bad and this was going to happen eventually. They even said his breed was prone to heart problems. I say BS. How do they know that? They did a whole bunch of tests before the surgery. My cat was very energetic, had no heart disease symptoms and was up to date on his physicals. He was 4 for god’s sake. Anyway, we gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried to believe their story, we’ll never know what really happened. So we went back Saturday afternoon to put him down. I brought his favorite blanket so he could rest in peace. Doctor said the procedure was very quick and painless. We gave our one year old daughter to a nurse so we could watch my cat be euthanized. He was barely moving. I could see that he was happy to see us. We were close to him when the doctor injected the chemical. My cat started screaming like I never seen before. Almost saying “noooo”. He was almost jumping. Doctor screamed and ask for more of the chemical. My wife was devastated by looking at that. I was sick to my stomach I almost passed out. You could see the cringe on every tech in that area. They even closed a dividing door to the other area. I couldn’t stay in that place anymore so I went to my car with my daughter and waited for my wife to come out with my deceased cat. I planned to bury him in my backyard in his favorite blanket. I noticed the blanket wasn’t in the box so I went back in to get it. I waited for 20 minutes and then a girl comes out and says it’s in the laundry and for me to go back tomorrow. I’m never going back to that place again. It will take a long time for my wife and I to erase the last seconds of his life from our minds. It looks like that was very painful. This place is full of amateurs. They’re supposed to be doctors. You can almost smell the BS on them. I’ll never know what really happened but I believe they screwed something up. And to whoever is replying to the reviews, don’t bother replying to mine, I will not email the manager. I want the people to know this story, you email the manager. We need to move on. I’m so angry, my wife so sad and my other cat is just walking around looking for him. This review is our closure.

When I took my little Chinita to this place for urgent care, I had a very bad experience with the staff there. Multiple doctors were observing her, but none of them communicated with each other or with me. Anxious for days waiting for their calls that never came when promised. When finally I had to put my little girl down, the doctor had no sympathy, just impatience. I was in the middle of saying goodbye to her and adjusting her for her final injection, but the doctor couldn't wait! I wasn't even holding her properly when the injection just went in. She couldn't wait an extra couple of seconds!!! They are heartless people, especially that particular doctor! It seems she lost her passion for the job decades ago. She should just retire. Please don't go there and save yourself more heartache than what you are already enduring. Thank you.

When I first got my dog I went to the VCA, it was expensive but I wanted the best care for my pup. Because of prices I took her somewhere else to get spayed. The worst decision I’ve ever made, this other hospital almost killed my dog from whatever surgery they performed. I brought her to vca for emergency treatment where she then needed emergency surgery. Yes it cost me a LOT of money but if it wasn’t for the vca my dog would be dead. I cannot thank them enough for doing everything they could for my dog. Just because they are expensive isn’t a reason you shouldn’t go there!

I had to bring my 6 yr old cat here this weekend, because he was suddenly in pain and could barely walk. I read reviews and didn't want to go here - but had no other choice. I was afraid of the cost, as I live week to week, with no savings or credit cards. Just to walk in the door was $125, but before I paid that, he was evaluated. I was told it was a urinary blockage, common for boy cats. They said they'd need to drain it and give him fluids...but then went on to say he'd need 48 hours of care, to the tune of $3000, which was impossible. But they said I could get care credit and pay it back like a credit card. I don't have great credit and was only given $500. So I was at an impass - unable to give my cat the care he needed. They just stared blankly at me, as I said I'd have to just take the lesser of the options, to drain his blockage and send him home with medication. I had to pay 75% of the bill before they'd start, then was told it would be a couple hours and they'd let me know when to come for him. On my way home, after checking his blood, a doctor called and said his potassium and electrolytes were quite low and she was worried. I said, I still can't pay...I don't have access to $3k today. I asked if he might not survive anyway, with either procedure - and she couldn't say. I asked if he should be euthanized, but she wouldn't commit. She said for the $900 procedure, he may end up with another blockage, but she'd send him home with meds and I'd have to change his diet. I said please do that and help him feel better. I picked him up and they said he's having a lot of trouble waking up from the anesthesia, but he did well. Well he continued having trouble recovering, didn't want to eat, drink, couldn't stand up. I went to bed at 11, got up at 5 and he was the same. I was supposed to give him antibiotics with food, but he wasn't moving, forget eating?! He tried at one point to get into his litter box, but didn't make it and and fell on his way - which is where he died around 10 am. I wish they'd had the compassion to do what they knew would save him and worry about the cost afterwards. OR, be honest that it wouldn't save him, so he could have been put out of misery and pain sooner. But they wanted to get the most they could get, regardless of the cost to my boy or me. Do not go here, unless money is no issue. They are only FOR PROFIT.

Friendly staff, but I’ve been at their facility for 6 hours now waiting for blood work and an x-ray. No one cared to update me on changes in timeline and I had to seek out any and all updates. Kinda felt like they forgot I was here.

My dog went into a bloat and we had to rush up to VCA. To be honest, it wasn’t my first choice for care because I know they’re considerably more expensive than a lot of other vets, but on a Saturday night at 8 pm when you’re dog is dying, you do what you have to. They were at the door waiting for us, rushed him in for oxygen and to be evaluated immediately, while I signed consent forms. Within minutes the vet came in, explained they needed to do diagnostics and gave us our first estimate, around $1000 for pain meds, bloodwork and X Rays. After authorizing that, they came back an hour later and gave another estimate of 8-10k to do emergency surgery. Thankfully I already had a care credit account and the gentleman at the counter helped me call to increase my limit so I could put a 6k down payment. It is a stressful feeling knowing your dog is dying and they will go no further until they get their money, but I understand they have to be paid. It was done with in minutes the surgeon was called in and he was in surgery. My one negative is that we were promised a call as soon as he was set and we sat up anxiously waiting until 2 am for a call, not knowing if he was alive or dead. The surgeon forgot to call us! I was furious at that moment, but understood that sometimes things happen and that same surgeon just saved our dogs life. After that, communication was good, they sent us a picture and update via text, then a call shortly after from the vet, and we were able to visit him that morning. The critical care facility was clean, seemed organized and the staff was prompt, friendly and knowledgeable. We took him home that night, he is now recovering. We were pleasantly surprised to find out our final bill was 6k, vs the 8-10 estimate. 6k is still a lot but to save my Bubba, totally worth it. I would definitely recommend their services, but I will say, like most vets, they do prioritize money. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars is because the surgeon did not call us and we were under extreme distress waiting on that call. Otherwise, our experience was the best it could’ve been and my Bubba is alive.

Amazing! My shih tzu was attacked Christmas Eve day and they were able to take him in for surgery right away. Caring, sympathetic, professional. They really saved us on a day when our usual vet just wasn't available.

Victoria Charrette

WAY too expensive. Just for a regular check up and vaccines (not rabies- we go through Petco for that)... over $500 for our dog and cat. They are both healthy, not on any medicine. Cant imagine what it would be like if we had an Emergency or if they develop any illness. However, the stars are for the staff who were very caring to our pets

Sarah Benson

Overall great experience at the VCA Southshore. My dog suddenly became ill and required emergency care. I took the almost hour long drive and was greeted right away. I had a vet tech at my side almost immediately to take my dog to the back room. I did not wait very long before a very friendly vet took me to a private room to explain what was happening with my dog. He went over everything and took time to answer my questions. I was pleased with the fact that they printed out an estimate of my costs and explained everything line by line. I very much enjoyed getting the evening update and a text message in the morning with a picture of my dog letting me know he was ok. I was called by the vet in the morning right at the time I was told I would receive a call with an update and a time to pick up my dog. The discharge process was easy and was even surprised that it cost a bit less than I planned. The facility is very clean and all the staff were super friendly. My only complaint was that I was told by my own vet that the VCA would be able to do the imaging of my dogs heart on site as they had a cardiologist on call. To my dismay I was told when I got there that they did not. I was told that the next available time was 2 weeks out. Thankfully my vet had already set something up and I kept that appointment because the VCA couldn't fulfill that need. It just would have been nice to have everything done right then and there. Now I have to wait a few more days to get the answer we need. Overall great experience and should I ever need emergency care again I would go back!

GREAT PET E.R.! I brought my rabbit here at midnight before I had a chance to read the Yelp reviews. My heart sank as read so many negatives reviews while sitting in their waiting rooms. However, I had a STELLAR experience. This is the only ER I know of where if you call with an emergency, they'll have vet techs waiting at the door so they can rush your pet to care IMMEDIATELY. As I was waiting a cat arrived mid-seizure with blood running from it's mouth. The owner was hysterical. Two techs were at the door waiting and got the cat into treatment within 20 seconds. Other staff members calmed the owner and started paperwork. Extra Points for that level of care. Everyone on the staff (EVERYONE) was helpful. Everyone was polite. Everyone made sure my family and I were comfortable, asking if we wanted coffee or tea. It was the CLEANEST pet hosptial I've ever been to. I asked about every test and they all made sense. I didn't feel the charges were excessive, especially given that I never chose to get pet insurance. My rabbit came home two days after his stay. The bill was extremely fair given that he received critical care treatment. I can't say enough wonderful things about this place.

Business prone to get your emotions for money. Rude and nasty techs that dont trust you to even walk your dog outside before paying the bill that is always way over priced. They have cameras all over like its a prison and they dont even let you walk your dog outside without some one being there and guiding you back inside to pay... They always have an attitude when you go and say something you found online they deny it and fight you on it... They have sign up that state " Dont trust Dr.Google " What kind of bullcrap is that? there basically saying dont be smart and just let us have your money and we will do the work.. lol Stay away go to a real vet office. the building should be a big clue as to how much they Rape the consumer for god sakes it looks like it should bee in miami

Such a miserable place.

Extremely disappointed with this place. We were at Cape Cod Veterinarian 24 hour with our sick dog with a liver issue. It was Thankgiving eve and they did not have anyone to do an ultrasound until Sunday because of the holiday. So we were faced with spending between $4,000-$6,000 so they could keep our dog until Sunday when someone would be able to do the ultrasound to help determine if he has liver cancer. So we called VCA to see if they had someone on to do an ultrasound so we wouldn't have to spend the $1,500 per night to keep him at the Cape Cod vet. They told us that they didn't have anybody there at the moment but there was someone that was on call that could be called in if it was an emergency. So we discussed it with the vet at the Cape Cod place and she offered to call VCA to discuss the situation. After speaking with someone at VCA she told us the exact quote for what it would be to have the on-call person come and do the ultrasound that night. VCA was well aware that we were coming from 45 minutes away to have the ultrasound done that night. Then when we got there the receptionist told us that she was expecting our dog and that the woman had already been called to come in for the ultrasound. Then when the doctor came in to discuss it with us all of the sudden now there wasn't going to be someone in until 8 a.m. and we would have to pay to keep him overnight and we are basically back in the exact same position we were at the Cape Cod vet. They said it must have been some kind of miscommunication which is a joke. The sole reason that the phone call was made by the other vet was to see if we could have someone that could do this tonight otherwise we would have just stayed at the Cape Cod vet. I honestly think that they were lying through their teeth when they were trying to tell us that it must have been a miscommunication. It was clear to us that whoever was on call did not want to come in. I was given a different story by the woman at the desk and a different story by the doctor. Why would anybody leave a perfectly good vet that they were already at to go to another vet unless we were getting an ultrasound. It makes no sense for anyone to drive 45 minutes away for any other reason than to have the ultrasound done that was promised. Stay away from this place and read all the other one star reviews because I have to agree with all of them. This was all after midnight and we got home about 4am with our sick dog. They recommended we keep him there, but after being lied to I could not trust them to do what was best for our dog or family. Senseless to do this to a family and a sick dog. Incompetence is the word if you can "misunderstand" why a vet would be calling for the specific reason to see if this could be done tonight. Then give us the cost for the on call person to come in, then tell us when we got there that you knew exactly why we were there, then act like it was all a miscommunication. Be honest with your customers. Someone screwed up and nobody wanted to take responsibility. We were so upset about making this decision and we had hoped the test would help us make a more informed choice of whether to put our beloved dog down. Instead, we took him home to see if he could make it through the night and call a different vet in the AM. VCA should be ashamed about how they handled this whole situation. Never setting foot in this place again!

I have pet rats and have been exceptionally lucky to bring those that need care to the lovely team at Weymouth. I've gone both through the regular daytime practice and through the ER, and have found both to be very capable. The costs for services are within my expectations for veterinary fees that support the top notch staff and facility.

Rachel Patton

They go out of their way to make you feel awful for not choosing the most expensive treatment. The techs act like sadists. Honestly the staff made this hellish experience a whole lot worse. They are condescending to the extreme. Did a follow up with my own vet and found much of my concern was unnecessary. I really wish they weren't the closest emergency vet. The money that goes into that place clearly isn't to afford salary for a better staff.

I had to make the heartbreaking decision to help my Maxy cross over yesterday and i have to say the vca staff were great under the circumstances. This is my second time here in a week and vets were very honest and upfront with me both times which was heartbreaking but at the same time it's what i needed.

Just brought my dog snow ball there this morning..the Dr and initial tech we dealt with were nice enough and while I understand the prices are higher... okay but don't be heartless about it..they told me to apply for care credit I didn't get it due to issues.. I asked your liason Elizabeth( who stated she was fairly new there ) what do I do she looked at me like I had ten heads .I said you must come across this and she just stood there. Now I'm under assumption I can't take dog home without paying this..i said just give me my dog back she stood there like a deer in head lights and no compassion to boot. Anyhow she said we dont hold dogs hostage here however we would want the 130 exam fee for the Dr seeing her..okay Elizabeth now what so basically you'd hold the dog until I Payed it. Do yourselves a favor get a "liason " with a little compassion. I just had bare minimum done still have no answer on her..albeit she is a senior dog whose lived 17 long years she's still my baby..i Will never ever recommend you guys either.."all about the $$" that's all it is..oh p.s. Elizabeth it's against the law to hold a pet hostage

I would give this place negative stars if I could. WORST PLACE EVER. Never call you to tell you how your Pets doing, and when you call they tell you there comfortable.... not if they are improving, eating, acting right. ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS MONEY. they tried pressuring me to put my cat down and when we refused multiple times they were annoyed and kept saying well it is 5,000 for the deposit. We do not care about money when it comes to our pets they are one of the family. they had to do a treatment for a couple days to help him get better when we went to visit our cat they made us make it extremely quick and kept making comments about his blood pressure. HE WAS RIGHT NEAR A DOG OF COURSE HES GOING TO BE UPSET. They are natural enemies... DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE THEY WILL LEAVE YOU IN AGONY

Our dog Sophie was exhibiting signs of stress in breathing - she was with my husband at his work in Hingham where a colleague suggest he rush Sophie to VCA South Shore. Once there, the medical team quickly took over in evaluating her condition and triaging to bring Sophie to a comfortable state, all the while getting history from my husband and I (teleconference in) and being totally transparent on how Sophie was and what would be happening through the diagnosis process. Sophie was subjected to tests including endoscopy and x-rays. the prognosis was good and to summarize, Sophie (age 13) received EXCELLENT care and is now running around like her puppy self again. Do note this included a follow-up to be sure all was good AND a call from the emergency doctor on Sunday to check in on Sophie. If I could have rated this a 10 star, I would have done so. Our sincere appreciation to this expert staff for their medical attention and genuine caring ways!!

Love this full service animal hospital, and get this they're open 24 hours. The caring and compassionate atmosphere here radiates for all pet parents to see how our beloved animals are taken care of.

Google User

I wish a there was an animal ER available at a place that cares about animals. This place only wants your money. They take advantage of you and use your love for your pet, your need and willingness to pay ANYTHING to make them better to drain your bank account. And if you go in with your precious baby and it has no chance of living a normal, pain free life ever again, they won't tell you that. No, what they do is keep the animal alive to suffer while they take you for all you've got. They use your love, your willingness to do anything and everything you can to save your beloved family member as a blindfold to drain your bank account. When they sense the tap may run dry, they then bring up that the animal will suffer as long as it's alive and maybe it's time to euthanize. The nightmare isn't over at that point though, as you stroke your pet and say goodbye and watch it take it's final breath, they IMMEDIATELY come in with a bill, your pet died at that moment, you're literally still touching it's body, crying and mourning the loss and there they are with a bill. Unfortunately this is the only pet hospital with an ER around. It's truly one of the saddest things that pet lovers around here don't have an option to go somewhere were your pet comes first and the bill comes second.

I have never been to this animal hospital, mainly because all of the numbers I have called connected to this hospital have been "off the hook" "busy" non existent, or just ring until im eventually hung up on. I would really like to get in touch and talk about setting up an apointment but without a human to talk to on the phone i really dont see that happening. Im disappointed and wanted to give them my business due to good reviews.

I just visited yesterday, and I knew I just had to write a review! I love VCA! The building was beautiful and the minute I entered inside I was greeted with warmth and respect. They even bent down to greet my baby macaw who was in a carrier. Within a few minutes I was brought into the back exam room by a friendly vet technician and observing student. Dr. Dyer was friendly and quite well educated on birds. I had a list of tests that I wanted to do on my parrot, and he went though each one with me, explaining how he would perform the exam and gave me estimates on prices. Unlike some vets I have visited before, he admitted that not all tests I had on my list were necessary since my bird was in good state of health. I still chose to do them all just to be safe, and he praised my caution. Before setting up my appointment with VCA I called at least a dozen other Avian vets, and most were not comfortable with taking on a macaw (large scary beak) or wouldn't preform certain tests. Dr. Dyer was the only vet that had plenty of experience with large birds and was very comfortable will preforming everything I asked for. The one test he couldn't do, he gave me an excellent explanation to why. The whole time even though my macaw was vocal and scared, they soothed him with gentle words and stroked his feathers which helped him relax. I will definitely take my bird to see Dr. Dyer again!

This place is a butcher shop!! DO NOT take your animal to this place in case of an emergency. All they care about is $$$$ and how much they can take away from you while you are there. Even worst if they see you are short on cash the option to kill your pet will be the first thing coming out of their mouth. Good thing I did not listen to them!

These folks were wonderful in a time of disaster. Our 5 y.o. cat developed a life-limiting illness and we needed to put him to sleep on a weekend. Unfortunately, nobody in our area but VCA is open from Sat. afternoon through Monday. There was great suffering involved and VCA stepped in to help. The techs are angels on earth and Dr. Cox, who performed the procedure, was incredibly loving and respectful to our pet and our needs. The reason this review is not 5 stars is because of a prior experience where we were quoted an outrageous price for a surgery, it was five times higher than the vet charged in another town where we ultimately had it performed. Because of this, I did not continue care at VCA and only returned when it was the end. My feeling is, people may choose not to come here except for emergency services because the prices are really high. Perhaps VCA is offering care that may help our pets do better and live longer but many of us are priced out.

I think this place is amazing. With in the hour I’ve just had to put down my beloved cat and with such a hard thing to do the vet made everything so much easier and peaceful for my mother and I. The vets were attentive to listen to us and from there explain the process and inform us on our options. I wish in the craziness that I could remember the vets name but I thank you, my mother thanks you and my kitty squash is now in a better place with no more pain.

I’m going to start by saying I don’t do reviews too often I’ve been going to this hospital for 11 years with my dog I went there On Tuesday I was told to do some blood work and a couple other thing which I took the doctors advice and I was told I’d hear back within 48 hours I didn’t hear back for 4 days I called 3 different times. On the third time I finally was able to speak to the ( Doctor )worried about my dog stressing about my dog not knowing what was going on with him I was told put my dog on Prozac. I spent about 500 and change Spending the money was no problem it was the way I was treated the whole experience was a raw deal I brought my three-year-old son with me at 6:30 for an appointment first words out of the doctors Mouth were isn’t he up too late he had to take the ride with me it’s his buddy lol but that’s not the point the point 500 dollars later I still haven’t found out what is wrong with my dog I have to go to a different vet did I Mentioned how she hung up on me because I was questioning putting my dog on Prozac.

There are only a handful of good vets here (Politano - the best, Girrello, Duffy, Lopes) and everyone else will try to upsell you on x-rays, scans, meds, bloodwork when it's simply not required. The boarding facility is laughable as well....leave 20 messages and get zero returned calls. Oh, and the front desk /checkout process is an abomination.

What a bunch of scumbags, all they want is your money . My dog has a tumor and when I went there they told me six months well it’s been close to two years but twice already he’s got an infection on the tumor area $ 300to. 400 just so they can play doctor , well it happened again the same Symtoms so I went there to get the meds . Oh no we need to see the dog. SCUM of THE EARTH

The facility, the front office staff, the nurse and the doctor were all exceptional. We are from Alabama and were traveling through the area when our 18 year old dog developed an abscess. We showed up at VCA and were treated so kindly and professionally. Thank you VCA!

My 18 year old Siamese cat was slowly dying of CKD and finally had to be put down late one night after our vet's office had closed. We knew VCA would be open and able to help him with his final need. The staff was very professional and empathetic. The facility had a quiet room in the back with an exit directly out of the building to use when the deed was done. Everything was a well thought out and professionally handled as was imaginable. I know from others that their care is excellent, and even though this procedure was the only thing we asked of them, they treated us with respect and compassion. As horrible as the night was, VAC's service was outstanding.
