I'm giving this two stars because of the great care from Dan Stewart and the techs during my visits to VCA. I'd personally give him 5 stars, but my review is based on the animal hospital and the nickel and diming I've experienced. This is far from an inexpensive vet, but knowing that being in the VCA network gave me access to 24 hour service was worth the added cost. It's a clean facility and most everyone there is friendly.
I'm rating this poorly due to the care I received in a time of need. My dog is suffering from an ear infection, something that consistently returns for him. They prescribed him drops that provide him with relief and the initial prescription was able to last me over a year (30 mg vial). Upon requesting a refill, they would not prescribe to me without coming in for another $70 visit. Their excuse is this could be something else and they need to see him, yet they prescribed a 30 mg bottle on the initial visit, not the cheaper 5 or 10 mg bottle that would have run its course from the initial infection that prompted the prescription.
It's one thing to hit me in the wallet, but I'm suffering circumstances that haven't allowed me the time to schedule a visit (caring for a sick family member). I was due for an appointment in April, so there should have been no harm I'm prescribing me the medication to relieve the symptoms and if some reason it didn't work, they could have went with an alternative during my next visit (and hit me for the cost of two prescriptions).
Prior to this I would have had nothing but good things to say (other than it's pricey). When I needed it most they failed me. I will never return to VCA. I have two dogs and spend thousands there every year. I'm looking forward to better care in the future and most likely added relief in my wallet.
