VCA has been my go-to for all my pets, even as I move across country. This location is prompt, polite, clean, and well priced. Can only speak to the current exotics vet, but she has shown patience and professionalism with my rats and I every time.

Would absolutely not recommend and give a negative if I could. So first visit, which was at the end of January, typical check up for my 4 year old French bulldog puppy, went okay. We had noticed a little skip in his step, which we were given x-ray orders and a potential neurological workup for the slight delay in his rear leg. Before getting to the X Ray's we had to bring him to tufts due to difficulty breathing the night before his x Ray's. Brought him home that day. Back the abbot the following week, where the vet tech took all vitals and listened to the heart rate. The vet did not listen to his heart rate, at which the next day we had found he had a severe arrythmia from listening to his heart rate, upon which we brought him back and the vet listened to his heart rate and noticed he had a severe and significant arrythmia. They took xrays, now he got very worked up at the vets which I told them and we sat for 30 minutes wondering where he was so I went to the desk and asked and they sent someone in said he would be done shortly, 15 minutes later he comes in extremely worked up, having a lot of difficulty breathing due to stress. This was not how that situation should have been handled or an update would have been nice, not leave us sitting in the room for a half hour+ with no indication of anything. Following that he declined, was eating but not drinking, weakness getting worse, aggression towards people he had know for his whole life, seizures. We brought him back of which we were offered extensive work ups, which he was clearly not up to doing, nor do we think it would have made a difference in the outcome. That was wed Feb 20, on the 22nd we made the decision to put him down. I called abbot set up an appointment for 1130 which I showed up right on time for. Brought him immediately to the room, vet tech came in got info left, now 12pm comes around nobody has come in with any update on timeframes or anything. This whole time he is freaking out, uncomfortable, wont settle, so I call the front desk from the room, say they will send someone right down 10 mins go by, so I walked out. This was absolutely ridiculous, putting a dying dog down should be top priority, not a regular check up or whatnot, or do not have me wait in the room for 40 minutes with a stressed out dog, not fair to the dog or the owner. Along with that there were a lot of descrpencies with his vet records and what we were told in the actual room when we visited them. Now that Friday the 22nd, I went back to my old vet who had us wait in the car until the vet was 100% ready brought him into the back door, quickly done and professionally done with much compassion. This is how the situation should have been dealt with. I would not recommend this vet to anyone after our experience, it made things so much worse as an owner and for my dog. Vet techs not professionally trained should not be taking vitals on a dog with a potentially life threatening issue or any issue for that matter. Had to call twice to have the manage call back and a medical examiner was supposed to call which did not happen. One more thing the second I walked in my old vet noticed his muscle wasting right away, something we told abbot but clearly we were not listened to about that.

Brought my cats here for 8 years and never had an issue (except for the one time my cat had giardia and before they figured that out, they told us to prepare for the worse. Really?). They always called after appointments to check in, which I know was just something they do for everyone, but still nice. Fast forward to November 2016 and my 8 year old cat was having breathing issues. Turns out he had cardiomyopathy and there was fluid around his lungs (spoiler alert - you don't recover and go on to live a good life). Dr. Pellagrini was non responsive when we were waiting for test results during this time. Needed heart medication and the office lacked communication altogether. I think at some point dr. Wang was the only one kind of helping and who actually cared. Was going through tufts for treatment, but VCA never called to check in on my cat. After 3 months, we had a lovely in home service come and put out kitty to sleep. I had seen numerous people at VCA over the years waiting in the waiting room sobbing because they were there to put their pet to sleep. That's totally unprofessional and cruel to make a family sit there and wait with a pet. Clearly VCA didnt care to see how my cat was doing so I wasn't going to bring him there for his final moments. Months later, start getting things in the mail and phone calls saying my cat needed his check up etc. Told them the cat was deceased, which they would have known if they had bothered to follow up on a cat that was terminally ill. Despite calling numerous times to tell them to stop contacting me to make appointments for my dead cat, I continued to receive communication via mail, even as recent as a few months ago. Disgusting. The way you treated my cat, me, and my family during that time with your lack of compassion and professionalism is beyond comprehension. Dropped the ball hard on that one and I'll never forget it. Absolutely cruel.

Called them at 8:30 am they had an opening at 10:45 . Once I got there they helped me right away and within minutes had me in a room talking to a great veterinarian. Only my first time dealing with them but I will be going back for sure.

They were incredibly accommodating and sincere when I had to bring my cat ive had for 15 years in. From the initial phone call to picking up her ashes, they were genuinely sympathetic and worked with my schedule. My existing vet was unable to take her in and I'm thankful for Abbott's professionalism. I'll be using them from now on for all my other pets.

So wonderful and caring. If you are looking for a local vet who actually cares about animals, this is the place. My cat became critically ill and I took them into VCA, Dr Wang was wonderful. She followed up and showed authentic care for my pet. The whole team at VCA was great.

Took my dog same day, which was great. She was bit by my other dog. Cleaned her up, RX and sent us home. A bit of a wait, but It was same day, so I didn't mind too much and not sure if that's a common occurrence.

Pros for this vet office are that they offer extended hours so getting an appointment is easy. They also were helpful when we first moved here with getting prescription cat food that we needed, even though we weren't going to be in for an appointment for many months. Dr. Wang was very helpful, clearly communicated the situatoin and showed patience and empathy. There were several things I didn't like about this practice; the demeanor of most of the vets leaves lots to be desired. Long wait times in the lobby to be seen by a vet. Recommendation of unneeded and expensive testing on a sick kitty including a visit to the ER even though he was stable and nothing ended up being wrong with him, long turn around time for bloodwork/test results. Maybe this is the standard for the area, my last vet had bloodwork results instantly and could offer ultrasounds as needed, not monthly. Yes, they suggested an ultrasound for a male senior cat. If you are searching for a new vet, I'd keep looking elsewhere.

I recently lost my dog of 12 years Niki and this animal hospital was the most professional and caring, and I can't say enough about all the staff there. I now have my new puppy Diamond and she is being seen there and currently boarding as I am on my way home now and hoping to pick her up tonite. I give VCA Abbott 5 stars and will always go there for veterinary services.

Vet Emily Angiulo grotesquely misdiagnosed our cat leading to her death. The pricing system was made up, We were estimated one price, charged another and then for a second dose of identical fluids were estimated a third cost and charged a fourth. Prices are already high for the area. Veterinary staff was incapable or unwilling to respond to basic questions of outlook and care in attempts to make more money. The service from her in general was cold, and uncaring. My cat was diagnosed and treated so improperly it lead to her death. Upon taking her to another vet for a second opinion we were given a 75-100% full recovery based off VCA bloodwork, however the VCAs treatment of choice had destroyed her system to the extent she died in pain waiting for the vet to euthanize her. My cat was only 5 and could have been saved if staff had cared more about their clients than their paycheck.

Mallory Cormier

Hi there! I brought my 3 month old rabbit named Crumpet there this past weekend for a wellness check up and Dr. Diana Ciminello was his vet and she did a fantastic job handling him and answering my copious amount of questions! She was very knowledgeable on rabbit health/husbandry and I was thrilled to have found an exotic animal specialist vet so close by! The tech and front desk staff were great too! No complaints! I also appreciated how clean the facility was. I would recommend Dr. Ciminello to my friends and family and look forward to bringing Crumpet to his future appointments with her! Thanks again

I cannot say enough kind things about the doctors and staff at VCA. We will ONLY use them for care and boarding of our 4 pound Pom. He is so happy there and well cared for. They are quick to make follow up phone calls to ask about him, and we can feel very comfortable with leaving him for boarding when we travel. It takes a special expertise to do teeth cleaning, blood work, etc on such a small animal and they are GREAT!! Do not understand the negative comments as we are so happy with everyone there.

Stephanie Chubbuck

Our Guinea pig stopped eating late on a Saturday which is considered a health crisis for Cavies and if you hope to save them they have to seen by a vet IMMEDIATELY.. I got in touch with VCA Abbott as they have a specialist on staff AND ALSO have Sunday hours!! I left them a voice mail asking to be seen as soon as possible We were not regular patients of the practice and they still got back to us and gave an appt within minutes of opening Sunday morning. Dr. Ciminello was outstanding and we were really happy with the care we recieved from her as well as the techs and office staff!

I HIGHLY recommend this animal hospital to ANYONE with a pet who needs to see a vet, whether it's immediately for something wrong or just a routine check up! These amazing people WANT to see our pets and help for a reasonable price!!! I am so shocked at how quickly they saw my rabbit (who's an exotic pet) so if you have an exotic pet NO WORRIES they have you covered! They have promotions all the time for new comers and I think that's truly amazing! My girl was not doing very well and we were so nervous that it would be serious and we wouldn't be able to afford it but none of those worries at this place! I am so thankful they were all so amazing and kind and that my baby received good care and that they gave her what she needed right there for a good price, they saved her and me! Thank you so much VCA staff for being wonderful and doing what you do for people and their loved ones!!!! My Pebs was already feeling better by the ride home!

Over the past 3 years I have used the VCA to get my cats prescription food. Pretty simple you would think. Unfortunately the VCA is the most unorganized business I have ever dealt with. On multiple occasions they "forgot" to order the food so I had to drive to another VCA to get it. When I arrived at the other location they claimed I didn't have a prescription for the food (even though I received the prescription from a doctor at that location!) My ties to the VCA ended last week when I went to pick up the cat food. They not only didn't have the food but informed me they had ordered the food for three weeks and it had come back on the invoice as "not fulfilled" So I have a cat that needs this "prescription" food and they didn't even contact me so I could make other arrangement's. Real animal lovers. At first they tried to be accommodating, the VCA they usually redirect me to didn't have the food as well. They then offered to have a doctor recommend an alternative food. The girl working the counter disappears to God knows where for at least 10 minutes. When she returns she tells me they have no record of a prescription so a doctor cant even recommend an alternative. So basically she's telling me the VCA has been providing me this prescription food for nearly 2 years without a prescription but NOW they can't recommend an alternative. After doing a lot of research and reading a lot of reviews from people with animals on dietary restrictions there are now a lot of foods readily available at pet stores that are not only comparable but even better for your pets then prescription foods. If you care about your animals avoid ALL the VCA's. They don't care about animals, just read all the other reviews.

Friendly staff. Clean and open waiting area with partially boxed in seating 'booths' to help keep visiting animals from taking too much of an interest in each other. Doctor was very nice and upfront. Pricing was transparent. Prescriptions filled on site and some specialty dog foods available at checkout.

We brought our pup here for the first time about a year ago, despite the shots she already got at the shelter, they decided to do their own protocol. For the moment we let it slide because the vet, Dr. Weissman, made a great impression and our pup really took to her. Within a year, Dr. Weissman had left and despite the kindness and helpfulness of her replacement, Dr. Cimonello, we are leaving. Why? Because the (non-medical) staff there are poorly organized, irresponsible, and, on top of that, have lied to us multiple times. They have consistently failed to follow through with their promises to provide us updated copies of our pup's medical record, shots, etc. When we got one of her shots updated while away for the holidays, they refused to mark it as current even after we provided them the record from my partner's mother's vet in Oregon. When we took her to the shelter for spaying (because they offered a significantly reduced price) they refused to note that on her record as well, even though Dr. Weissman saw they scar when we brought her in because of diarrhea related to the pain medication she was taking in the aftermath. Then, when we decided to leave, that is to "inactivate" (not a word) our account, they said they would email the record - they didn't. We called back a week later (today) and were told that they won't email records. We're done with these folks, perhaps this disorganization is why Dr. Weissman left too.

They were amazing and helpful and made me feel like we made the right decision. My cat was very sick and before I made it through the door they had a team there to help him. Everyone we worked with was friendly and warm .Unfortunately brody was too sick and they helped us make the difficult decision to put him to sleep and talked to us about his after care. They were gentle with him and let us spend all the time we needed with him. Even though it was one of the hardest thing I had to deal with we left there knowing he was in good and loving hands. I cannot thank you all enough for being there for us.

Stephanie Gonyou

I have mixed feelings about my visit here. As we entered, the receptionists were very nice and someone came out right away to check on my cat, although she was very unfriendly and didnt really listen to what I had to say was going on with my cat. When we were brought into the exam room, there was blood all over the floor from the previous appointment that she quickly tried to clean up. The doctor who then took a look at my cat, was very good. She was understanding and listened and kept us up to speed with what was going on with him. The price just for tests to be run, was outrageous. She did her best to combine some things to bring it down a little for me but it was still way more than I could afford but I really needed to find out what was going on with him, so was able to get someone to pay for it. All 3 medications given to me for my cat, were less than the entire visit. And the tests werent 100% because they said that they think the urine sample taken was contaminated from the table where they took the sample from. He does seem to be feeling better with the meds given. But overall I was very overwhelmed with the entire visit.

Took our incontinent 17 year old blind and deaf dog who was unable to walk to have him go to doggy heaven. Dr chow and staff was nice. My complaint is they charged us a fee for a physical. My wife and I are nurses and to see Dr chow come in to do a physical on our dog was embarrassing and angered us. Dr chow said it's policy. Shameful policy. Waiting around for our dog who was going to heaven for him to get a physical as we waited as are hearts were breaking was wrong of them. You decide!!

We've been bringing our dog here since we got her three years ago and have been happy with the care she's received. We've had some medical concerns that they couldn't handle, but for 99% of things, we've been able to go here. Dr. Cimmenello and Dr. Pelegrini are both excellent.

I had brought my cat when she starting falling over. They did lots of tests that all came back negative. They decided to run additional bloodwork that had to be sent to another office. Total cost over $500 just for the tests. It took 3 days to get the results and found she was suffering from kidney failure. I rushed her to Tufts and $2800 she recovered and was sent home. If the bloodwork had been processed faster it might not have been so life or death situation. On a good note they called me a couple times to check up on my cat and give advise on caring for her. She was sent home with an IV bag i had to inject myself and they were helpful in explaining the best way to do it. when my dog had to be put to sleep due to cancer they were extremely nice. Very patient as we said our goodbyes. We were there long passed closing time. They had me pay right before the injection and brought all the paperwork to me so I didn't have to leave my dog's side for a moment. Which is good before afterwards I could just leave and not worry about trying to figure out credit cards and such. It even cost less than I thought it would. Exam visit, shot and individual cremation where I get the remains back in a box I selected cost $288 and my dog was close to 100 pounds. 2 days afterwards I received a sympathy card with a stamp of my dogs paw print. I never would have thought of that and found it above and beyond my expectations since my dog had never been there before.

Wow. I am shocked about the other reviews here. I did not like one particular doctor and refused to have see my dog but she has not been there in over a year. The only reason I did not like her was because she insisted I was doing wrong by feeding my pet human food. I was feeding him chicken and rice when she was sick. Every vet has encouraged this (and baby food). Since I made the switch the primary doctors has been dr. Pelligrini. Wonderful bedside manner and very knowable. Always pleasant, polite and answers all questions. The staff has always been pleasant. They are always slow on check out, but that could be because the dogs want out now. I had dr. Wang today. First time with her. Very polite and knowable. Answered all my questions. I have always used a VCA location so I have comment on the pricing. I do love to use the care credit card. No interest financing for set months based on the amount owed. VCA Shrewsbury (no longer in existence) told me about it. Allows me to pay there bill in 3-5 months with no interest. Worth getting.

Saw the exotic specialist with our sick Guinea pig. It was an emergency appointment, so we expected to be overcharged and put in waiting room forever. Pleasantly surprised becsuse we were taken right away. The Vet was kind and knowledgeable. It's been a few days and meds given worked great. Thanks for not over charging us and making our little pet well again!

Tzigane Pope

When my cat was having an emergency, they were who was immediately available and saw to her. However, over half a grand after and we still don't know why she is having problems. $65 to even see her. Which may not be huge for some, others, is a bit more rough. This is a post for others who are in a tighter spot. If it's an emergency, you can't help who you have to see, but otherwise know it is a steep price climb.

Diana Sanko

Great place, great vets! They took us in as an emergency visit, on the same day for which I was super grateful! Also they got my baby feeling better within hours! The most cost efficient vet I’ve found yet! Very up front about testing & medication costs which were much lower than other places I’ve been to over the years. They clearly love what they do and it shows!

Brenda Marden

We were there because our cat was sick. Two visits. First visit the vet missed a tumor. She gave us antibiotics, musinex, and a request for a stool sample and sent us on our way. Less than a week later we were back. The second vet found a tumor and my kitty was too sick and we made a difficult decision that day. They were helpful with the process.

Brought my sick cat in. They have great hours and will see your pet at a moment's notice. However, they recommended a costly, and in my opinion over-the-top, surgery. Took my cat home and treated her with what I thought was a last attempt to save her life and it worked. Cat is doing great, but now has mange! Indoor cat with no pre-existing problems developed highly contagious disease days after being seen at the VCA. I don't believe in coincidences. Won't be going back there again!

Rachael St. Jean

Extremely expensive...however, fantastic hours and they will let you bring your dog in even if it's close to close if it seems serious or concerning which i really appreciated. You can kind of tell they're really pushing as much on you to get you to spend as much money as possible but guess that's just part of the business.

I've been bringing my cats to VCA Abbott since the 80s, before it was VCA. I've always found the veterinarians to be proactive and compassionate, and I've had a couple cats that got old enough to suffer illnesses that compromised their quality of life. In these cases, the doctors advised me of all the options and didn't push any particular one, and putting a cat to sleep was always framed in the context of the animal's chance of returning to wellbeing. The techs there are great, too.

I can't say thank you enough to the staff at VCA Abbott. Our 2 year old ferret, Rupert, had symptoms of bladder stones. Immediately, we called nearly a dozen Veterinarian hospitals nearby. The only hospital that would see a ferret, and who had time to see him on such short notice, was VCA Abbott. They diagnosed the problem quickly and were honest about not having the experience of removing bladder stones surgically from ferrets. However I trusted Dr. Ciminello with Rupert, and the surgery went smoothly. Rupert recovered so quickly and is back to his playful, bouncy self. The staff took such good care of him and I hope to continue to use them for the primary care for my furry family members in the future!

I've been going to this VCA for many years. The staff are very friendly, the hospital is clean and well organized and they always call to check on my babies after we've been there for a sick visit. And knowing some of the staff personally, they are very hard working dedicated animal lovers.

If I could rate this place as a 0 I would. If you love your animals like I hope you do, dont ever bring them here.

Our dog had a hard time breathing and walking. Vets we had used in the past couldn't fit us in. I called here and they wanted us in as soon as we could. He was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. He was an older boy and we couldn't afford all the tests they wanted to do, but they were very understanding and did what they could for what we could afford. They even called us to see how he was doing. Unfortunately we had to put him down a month later. His meds didn't help him. It was worse than what we thought. The whole staff there comforted us and made our last day with him easier. Very caring and we were very thankful to them.

Took great care of my pup

One year ago, I brought my Maine Coone to this vet. He had stopped eating, was loosing weight and sneezing and coughing bloody mucus. It was a mess and honestly I thought it was his end. I was very uncomfortable with the vet and the administrations lack of concern and I picked up a hesitancy proper to those who are a bit inexperienced. They were quick to offer expensive tests for his "cancer" or to put him down. I asked for antibiotics and brought him home for hospice until I would know that euthanization was unavoidable. Taking care of him was difficult- I won't lie - steam baths to clear his sinus', bottle feeding chicken broth and wiping out his nose while watching him fade to 6 pounds from 13lbs. I am glad I followed my instincts (or the pain of loosing my 14 year old cat)... Either way... he's healthy and active at 9/10 pounds now - he just has allergy issues and will be turning 16 in the beginning of 2015! I read the other reviews - so please, if you love your animal - take him/her somewhere else. There's a nice place in Millbury called Riverside that I brought mine to months ago for an unrelated issue. Their mission statement is a quote about the treatment of animals being reflective of man. The vet kinda reminds me of James Harriot and/or Tristan. So check them out... (-:

Moved to Worcester 3 months ago and so had to find a new vet. This office came recommended by our neighbor Our wait was a little long but it was also a busy time of day I'd guess. Both the tech and the vet apologized several times. Aside from that everyone working there was lovely, the whole office was very clean, the vet was nice and handled my giant breed dog well. Prices were as expected but reasonable. They work with the pet insurance I use, Trupanion, and can submit claims directly to them. That is a huge plus for me. I will be transitioning my other dogs over when they need care.
