I cannot say enough good things about this place. My German Shepherd had a lot of health issues and was a patient of theirs for tragically only a short time, but they treated us as if we had been going there for years. The staff and doctors were very kind to my dog, never rushed us, always were generous with their time, and never pushed unnecessary expensive testing. I highly recommend this hospital and the vets for any pet.

I've waited a long time to review because my experience at Tufts was so painful, remembering it is hard. It's been 10 years since I lost my big, sweet boy Tilos to a Valley Fever infection that went to his brain, resulting in seizures, permanent damage, and death. I knew Tilos was sick with Valley Fever as a previous vet in San Diego has a positive titer- and I knew most vets here weren't familiar with this fungal infection (mostly in Arizona where we'd worked for a field season). So I took him to Tuft's internal medicine specialists. All the vet could do was comment about my dog's amazing teeth and how they looked like a wolves. He'd never seen such big teeth. I pushed for a fungal titer, and finally got one. I didn't get the results on the titer, or a good explanation of the results, or a treatment plan without a lot of phone calls. Even then, no explanation from the vet, and no treatment plan. Wait and see... So I did, and my dog suffered a massive seizure that destroyed his ability to walk normally and almost killed him. I took him to Tufts hoping for advanced care. Instead, they did all sorts of neurological "testing" on him in the back, while he whined and looked anxiously for me. The testing was useless- it was for educational purposes only and I could see how distressed my dog was so I got him out of there and took him home. The lack of compassion was in stark constrast to the the normal e-vet I'd taken him to in Bangor (who were wondeful and incredibly caring and kind). My boy gradually improved with lots of care at home, but he couldn't recover completely and after a week or two his body started shutting down. He looked at me with such love in his eyes, despite his pain and confusion. I knew he wanted to stay with me, but he couldn't hang on anymore and I let him go. Tufts failed me- I went to the top "specialist" for a specific reason- I knew my dog had this unusual (for east coast) fungal infection and wanted advanced help treatiing it. And then they treated him like a piece of meat demo-dog when he was dying from the infection they failed to treat. I let my sweet dog down by taking him to this place- a dog who'd saved me from an attempted assualt and stayed by my side through miles of wilderness trails and remote field work. He was my first dog, a very special dog, and my heart dog. If Tufts is doing better now, good. But the whole experience was absolutely horrific and completely unprofessional and I would never go back.

I was referred to Tufts by my vet to get specialized treatment for my sick cat. My poor cat wasn't eating, had a temp of 104, and antibiotics were not helping. The lady who checked me in at Tufts was very kind. The vet tech who observed my cat in the waiting area was so rude and unprofessional that I asked for my paperwork back and went to a different hospital. I had to explain my situation TWICE to the vet tech, because he wasn't listening the first time. He acted like he didn't care for me or my cat. Then he roughly picked up the cat crate, looked inside, and yelled "What's up Creamcicle" to my already terrified cat (who is orange and white). The he asked me "what did you say his name was again?" then told me that a vet would eventually see him. My cat was already scared and I couldn't leave him with a tech who clearly didn't care about his well-being and treated him like a joke. My cat ended up needing overnight care and I am very glad I brought him to a different hospital where the staff treated him with respect.

I recently brought my cat here to be treated for crystals in his bladder preventing him from peeing. I’m grateful he pulled through but dissatisfied with how ragged he looked when I got him home. He was covered in litter dust, smelled like pee and looked like he was dipped in his own waste. Considering how expensive his stay cost me and the reputation of this hospital someone could have cleaned him before being discharged. I’d be reluctant leaving him or another pet overnight here again.

Sadly, my dog, Mordi was stricken with a heart issue on the evening before Christmas Eve. Fortunately, I found Tufts in Walpole. The staff, specifically the vet who cared for Mordi was completely open about his options without any pressure about what path I should take with him. Dr. Operil is the most compassionate, caring vet I have ever dealt with. She made a very heartbreaking and difficult decision easier. I feel so fortunate to have found not just the facility, which is much closer to home than my present vet, but to have found such a wonderful, caring doctor for my pets. I am very grateful to have had her in our corner during this difficult time. Having a vet who is accessible 24 hours a day is also a big advantage when you have a pet who has "after hour" issues.

If there were an option for a negative star that would still be too high a rating for this careless, money grubbing establishment full of useless individuals. The abundance of wishy washy half answers from so called professionals is mind blowing. I have now had two experiences with Tufts and will never have another. My first experience with Tufts was not a good one for multiple reasons. First because our dog was not well but secondly because the available vet didn't have a clue what she was doing. I'm not sure if her mis diagnosis of our dogs condition was due to being over worked, or a lack of experience or just her remarkable stupidity. Whatever the case may be she started our dog on the wrong treatment. Quickly realizing the mistake she had made the course of action changed, but it was too late and we lost our two and a half year old dog. As horrible of situation as this was we assumed it was an unfortunate and isolated event....... My second experience with Tufts was tonight. We rushed our 4 month old puppy to Tufts after he injested a bully stick in its entirety. Upon arriving to the empty waiting room there was zero sense of urgency and we waited for almost an hour. Meanwhile vet techs were coming in and out, not to do any preliminary examinations, but rather treating the area like a petting zoo. Finally a vet became available. We proceeded to pull teeth to dry to establish the right solution, with her saying things like "well you know him best" and "well we could do that". We rule out putting our puppy under for a procedure that may or may not help the situation and decide on an x Ray. After reviewing the x Ray she determines the bully stick is not stuck in his throat but she can't see it in his stomach either. We are told to watch him and are sent on our way. We get home and what do you know.... it turns out it was stuck in his throat and he throws it up. Not to mention after a quick google search we find out an x Ray would not have shown this. As a non veterinarian pet owner I have to rely on and trust in so called professionals and animal hospitals like Tufts. For these people and places to blindly diagnose or give a clean bill of health while not knowing what they are doing is irresponsible and disgusting. So if you want to play vet roulette with a bunch of doctors who look to you to do their job for them, then head over to Tufts and don't forget your wallet.

Dr Kibler is amazing. She took well over 40 minuets explaining my dogs diagnosis. She is super friendly and answered all my questions. Would absolutely recommend Tufts.

We were referred to this clinic because my dog was having a hard time breathing. In a period of 2 weeks and $3,000.00 later my dog was sent home undiagnosed, they had no idea why my dog couldnt breathe. Our bad experience started from the first moment we walked through the door. A rude vet assistant came out from the back and was very careless about the situation, she was cold and heartless and thought it was ridiculous that we were there on a Friday afternoon even though we were referred to their clinic by our primary doctor. Not the welcome you would ever want to receive, when your dog is gasping for air. When we talked to the doctor we told him all her symptoms and he told us that our dog had a couple of months to live, even though he had NEVER seen or examined her before. When we asked how he knew that, he told us that he knew based on his experience. He prescribed my dog heart medicine which we gave to her, just to find out later that my dogs heart was HEALTHY and NEVER needed the medicine in the first place. The day my baby was discharged, she couldnt breathe, and hours later she died gasping for air. We never received answers, and we never forgot the lack of compassion and unprofessionalism that we received in this clinic. We paid a lot of money for nothing, because we didnt receive the help we were desperately looking for. We lost a part of our family, and maybe if we had taken her to a different clinic we would have received help.

My experience with tufts on Christmas eve with my ten yr old cat that was mis diagnosed by another vet had gotten sick again so I took him to tufts I'm 76 yrs old all they wanted was my money they are all about the all mighty dollar I told them I was limited and they told me to apply for a card they checked him out and they tell me his ear is dirty and they did not even clean it cause it would have been an extra charge so they give him blood work feel his bladder and charge me 253 for doing nothing I recommend them to no one they should be shut down he was sent home sick, with no diagnosis

This place doesn't care about your pets, it just lets them die and only some of the doctors seem compitant, my grandma s dig died because of this place and m mom's dog had to be put down 3 days later !!!

First of all, when Odin got sick last year and went to this Tufts, I was dismayed at the way he was handled upon take in. The two female attendants were not even strong enough to lift my very sick 85lb boy out of the car, and when they finally did so in a very unprofessional manner, so much so he started pooping himself out of fear, they could barley lift him on the stretcher and as soon as they tried, the stretcher went rolling across the parking lot because they "forgot" to lock the stretcher, causing Odin further distress. Sadly, it turned out to be an end of life event for Odin there. A couple of weeks ago, I was referred to their cardiology department to examine a pup I'd just adopted. After an almost $500 visit, I was referred to another cardiologist at Tufts Grafton, as the doctor in Walpole, I was told after the fact, no longer does surgeries. I was assured they could use the ultrasound this doctor had taken. Not only that, this doctor informed me my pup could die at anytime from sudden death, due to his condition. Talk about unsettling things to hear. Upon having this pup seen in Grafton, where I was informed after his examination they did not feel he was at imminent risk for "sudden death" given what they'd seen in his exam, I was hit with another over $400 bill for the same services I'd received at Walpole, because the surgeons who were actually doing the surgery wanted to see for themselves what was really going on. I get that, but his surgery is going to cost almost $5,000. I think it's unconscionable and very unfair to hit someone with double charges, given the cost of the surgery. My last two experiences with Tufts Walpole have been less than stellar. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

Wonderful place. I brought my dog in for a rash on the stomach. The veterinary assistant came out to the waiting room, checked her stomach out quickly and told me to buy some cream for insect bites. No charge for the visit.

My dog had kidney failure and was in the hospital 3 days. They gave me updates every morning and every night. Each time I went in to visit my dog the doctor would come see me with another update. Doctors and staff are friendly and take time to explain things. Great place to go!

thomas liang

Horrible experience. They treated my cat for uninary blockage. I was told that my cat only had crystal, his structure was fine, no stone was found, no surgery in need after the treatment. However, my cat had high creat value. We spent 2 extra days to fight for possible kidney injury. I didn't have a problem for that. However, I did asked if it could be possible that we got some wrong numbers from the machine reading. To be polite, I dared not challenging could be human error. It turned out that the outside lab test numbers were conflicting with their in house reading. The vet made the judgement based on something she couldn't explain, and we ended up paying 3200 plus bill before we feel the cat was on a recovery rout. On the top of that, this place has a group of people who doesn't care about the patients. They allowed me to enter the ICU cage area 4 times on visiting hours. I saw girls there chating surfing on their phone. My cat had tubes in and out his body. He had a bowel of disgusting water in front of him which had litter sand in it. I had to ask them for some water for my kitty that they charged ICU care. My cat ended up to have a pu surgery becasue after the treatment, he still couldn't pee. It ended up we paid 6900 plus bill. They didn't have a clear explanation on the cause of blockage. Rooted out stone, structure, and crystal finally. They only thing they could logically based on was my cat was put on a catheter 5 times in a row. There 2 accidents. My cat managed pulled catheter twice himself. I saw my cat with or without an e collar when he was in the ICU cage with the tubes on him. I was instructed for after hospital care that my cat needed to wear the e collar for 2 to 3 weeks. In the intense care system that they claimed, my cat sometime didn't have the e collar and had dirty water. I had a private phone conversation with the director of the establishment, Dr Karas. I told her the not pleasant situations both my son and I observed. And I told her I didn't want the surgeon who had terrible reviews on the Internet to do the pu surgery. Obviously, she doesn't consider any bad experience as significant for business. Yes, this place has good reviews. I wish I could give a good one. Pets need good vet services and good care. Not like this! Dr Karas painted me in a picture as a customer who used uncivil manner with her staff. I am pretty much sure nobody would smile when they made a mistake and urged you to sign a piece of paper. I never used foul language with them. I think they are professional medical practitioners. I did asked a few questions from a layman point of view. Something like, if the creat numbers were not sure things, what would be the base of the doctor assessment. My later visits were difficult. I wasn't allowed to see my cat in the area that he was placed. They brought him to me in an office. I had the feeling that the techs knew I saw something I wasn't supposed to see. The night shift vet who was in charge didn't know the detail information about my cat. When I asked her about the test results. She told me it was on another vet's desk. When your pet are in 24 hours emergency care, the doctors do not relay information properly at this place. I did ask what kind of crystal that my cat had. She wouldn't be able to get the information easily and readily. I hate to write a bad review for a business. They must have some good vets and techs. All the good things together wouldn't defend one bad element. It's will cost dearly to the pet owners. I still believe most vets and techs care about their patients. This business does NOT care. They care about the money. All they push is to urging you to pay 75% of upper estimate of bill before any treatment. I think if you have time for your pets, you should carefully read reviews. There were good ones. Our cat like a hostage in their hands. There is always an option that they will bring out:" putting to sleep ". That scares you and digs your wallet out very efficiently.

Dr. Destefano is wonderful!! He is kind and compassionate giving my little guy Rico the best care ever not to mention saving his life!! I will forever be grateful. Thank you Dr. Destefano! The only negative is that Tufts is very pricey

Girl on the phone was not attentive, not listening to anything I said and just jumping to conclusions then wouldn't answer any of my questions. Horrible customer service.

I brought my dog there for YEARS, seeing many different docs with many different specialties. Every doctor is fabulous! Caring and empathetic, When the docs walked into the exam room, Cosmo was actually calmed by their presence. I cannot say enough about how wonderful every member of the staff is! 10 STARS!!!

Over the years these folks have helped us with two dogs and four cats, plus, at their large animal hospital in Grafton, three horses. I only wish I could get medical care this good for myself and my family. Superb.

Dr. Cavalido, Jenny, Becky, Dianne, and the entire team at Tufts Vets have been a godsend to our family. We came to Tufts after our 6 y/o boxer, Barkley, was diagnosed with cancer and didn't know where to turn, or what options were available. Dr. Cavalido and Jenny have expertly guided us through treatments, ensuring Barkley maintains an exceptional quality of life, and making a daunting time of our lives less stressful. Everyone at Tufts has shown our big baby nothing but love and compassion, and we are forever grateful for the care he's received.

They're great vets and friendly to humans too.

A few months back our dog Tucker wasn't feeling well and we ended up at our regular vets to find out what was going on, found out his kidneys were failing. Took him to Tufts that afternoon. He was kept at the ER for 2-3 days to evaluate, treat, and diagnose him. They took such good care of him while he was there and communicated honestly, effectively, and compassionately with us the entire time. The diagnosis was Lyme Nephritis and we tried to support him at home for a next week or so with medications but he continued to decline. The specialists were honest with us as hard as it was. We lost Tucker to this horrible disease and it was Tufts that supported us when the decision had to be made to let him go. We did everything we could and as devastating as an experience was, the front desk and medical staff were compassionate and supportive and I will forever be thankful for that. They are a knowledgeable and caring group and though I hope I don't need this type of care again for any future furry family members, I know where I will be bringing them when necessary.

Because I had positive experiences when I had brought other people's cats here in emergencies, I took my cat directly here when he was having problems and skipped a visit to my vet. Since it could not be determined if his symptoms, all occurring in the lower half of his body, were related to the chronic loose stools he had been having for two years, he was seen by Dr Carney of the GI department. As it turned out, he was actually wounded and the wound was very badly infected. TheTufts surgeon on call agreed to open him up to drain, clean out, and flush the infected wound. I had concerns about general anesthesia because he has a heart murmur which has worsened, so they agreed to try to work with conscious sedation. They took him right away (I was expecting an overnight stay), they were done within an hour, AND they sent me home with many free samples, generously portioned, of food to try for his GI problem. He recovered within a week AND no more loose stools. All for $340.00, which was FAR less than I expected for cost. Couldn't be more thrilled. The staff was attentive, friendly, sympathetic, and very careful and kind to my cat.

I recently had to take my dog Mia to Tufts VETS. It was an emergency. Tufts VETS is open 24 hours a day. The other vet I called first would have scheduled an appointment the next day, which in my dog's case would have been far too late. The receptionist gave me very careful directions to the place. It's a little difficult to find, and it really helps if you've been down South Street before. There is a clear sign out front, though. The vet, Dr Lyra Sawzin, told us the various possible things that could be causing it and the treatments they could do. She did not make me feel I had to try heroic and expensive measures, which given my dog's age and condition would have been a mistake. I felt she communicated very clearly and explained the situation well and sensitively. She told me up front how much the treatment would cost, as an estimate. She brought it up, I didn't have to. They didn't try to keep enlarging the estimate, and the final bill was slightly lower than the estimate. TUFTS was very good about keeping us up to date on my dog's situation. Dr Sawzin called us twice over that day and the next when Mia's condition changed. Sadly, I had to have Mia euthanized. All of the Tufts staff were very sensitive about the entire process. I give Tufts VETS very good marks.

Waited over an hour while my dog can barley stand up while he is shaking on the floor just to have them tell me my dog ate marijuana which I know for a fact he didn't. Then they gave him fluids then said if it's worse tommrow being him somewhere else. Awful experience, I was expecting the best help and did not receive it.

Victoria Breen

They made what was a tough few weeks trying to figure out what was causing my dog to have seizures easier. The staff is warm and welcoming, and the vets we saw were knowledgable and helpful. They answered all my questions and I left feeling confident that we got to the bottom of the issues. Thank you!!

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank All the staff at Tufts. I have taken both my pugs for numerous visits over the years. The Doctors, nurses and office staff are professional while maintaining a high level of compassion for both the animals and their owners. My youngest pug was diagnosed with a fatty tumor on his leg. The surgeon was able to remove it and provide another 3 years of life for my little guy. I recently had to put him down, my second experience , and the staff was efficient and empathetic. Dr. Hammond (sp - ?), I can't thank you enough for listening and your incredible compassion. You are amazing ! I will never forget what you all have done for my best buddies. Take a bow please, you deserve it. With sincere thanks and admiration. John Power

I have great things to say about Tufts, from the very beginning they looked in my dog's best interest, and answered my questions completely, even took the time to explain everything I forgot to ask about. Carney, Cooper and Summerhayes (spelling is wrong I am sure) were completely transparent throughout my dogs entire care, from medication to surgery to end of life services. They all really went the extra mile. The only issue I had with Tufts is you have to know how to use their automated phone service. Tufts is very busy all the time and thus the communication via phone is slow, but if you call and leave a message they do truly get back to you as soon as they can.

Cheryl Guiod

Tufts medical team was instrumental in helping us decide the best course of action for our little man 'Sam' during his medical ordeal. Although we lost him in June 2016 Tufts did their best to keep him going, but inevitably his time with us had come to an end!

I love, love, LOVE this place! Out of options locally, we had to travel quite a ways for their help, (in the early am hours mind you) and everyone there was so wonderful to our dog and us! I couldn't be more grateful to their staff for helping my sick little guy. 3 separate hospitals here (locally) who couldn't get it right and with my dog sicker than ever, they managed to get him back in good health in no time. Can't thank them or recommend them enough!

I was very pleased with Dr Maggio and the cataract surgery on my young dog, although I need to take the dog back because one year later the eye is a bit swollen. Hopefully it's nothing serious. I was not pleased w. a radiologist who did a scan on my cat, looking for cancer. He told us he couldn't see anything then later he reports to my vet that he saw cancer in the mesentery. There was little point going for the scan; my husband insisted on it. They are very worried about getting their money; it is a business. Fortunately I coulod afford the $5K. They don't call to check on the animal once it goes home and they are not friendly at the front desk. For some situations they have no competition...so there you are.

DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE!!! If I could give this place a zero I would. Unbelievably rude, sarcastic people that work here. The vet that we dealt with, last name being Waterfall, had no sympathy whatsoever for the state that my dog was in. I brought my dog in one night due to pains in her abdomen, we were told she needed to get an ultrasound done but no one was on staff to deliver one. She said she’d call the two “techs” that deal with ultrasounds that were off that day to see if they can come in on an emergency basis. Well apparently they weren’t able to make it in, I guess to them they didn’t see it as an emergency. They offered to keep her over night, at the cost of $500 on top of what we paid them for the check in. We took her home and were told to bring her in the next day at 8am because she was the sickest dog and she’d be seen first thing tomorrow. We get there at 8, only for them to check us in at 8:30 and tell us she won’t be seen until 2 because she is not the sickest dog. Between these two days, three people saw my dog and all of them diagnosed her differently. No one was on the same page, they finally did the ultrasound and that stupid vet Waterfall, got a completely different diagnosis, to which she didn’t want to share the results in physical form. She said that my dog was dying and we should euthanize her. After telling her that it wasn’t an option whatsoever she proceeded to look at me like I’m crazy and say “can I ask why?”. She claimed to care about my dogs state and the fact that she’d be in pain if we don’t make this decision to put her down...honey, if you cared, you would’ve made sure an ultrasound technician came in the night they were supposed to. I left and Waterfall and her technician were completely upset with my decision. MONEY HUNGRY!!! She was completely out of line and totally unprofessional. And ended up giving us the wrong diagnosis! SAVE YOUR PETS!!

Stephanie Audain

My dog wanted to live. $8000 was not enough I ran out of money. If you have money your pet will be save or they will try to save your pet. This place is a business $$$$$ RIP Baby Boy.

I have had 2 dogs with very different medical emergencies and the dr's and nurses were wonderful both times. They were able to explain all the issues so we understood and I never felt like they were running tests to make a bigger bill. Having to leave your pets overnight is awful but it was easier knowing the dogs were in good hands.

Today is a good day for a review. 8am aptointment walk in met with a smile. All was good nice and relaxed waiting room.

Amazing facility, support staff and doctors. Very compassionate and professional. Dr. Bulmer is so committed to his patients and takes the time to fully explain every detail of treatments and possible outcomes. For those who commented on cost, I would just say that top notch medical minds in a top notch facility are worth every penny! Thank you for your care and for saving my dogs life!

My Dad works at Tufts VETS ( facilities) but he convinced me to come down from New Hampshire. I had a visit with Dr. Paul after trying to get my young Golden ( Goose) to eat and get other trouble issues resolved. Dr. Paul did an outstanding job to resolve issues that could not be addressed locally and even followed up on a frequent schedule to make sure everything is on track is beyond my expectations! This place is unreal!
