I took my 2 red eared slider turtles for their first check up to make sure everything was good. We had to travel about 45 minutes from where we live because this was the closest place that specializes in turtles but it was well worth the drive!! The doctor was so wonderful with them and gave my husband and I new information that will better our turtles lives. Not only was the doctor great, the employees were so nice and hands on. The facility itself holds more turtles and tortoises then I have ever seen under one roof. It was fascinating. Please consider donating (if you can) when visiting! What they are doing here is absolutely amazing.

The life of my tegu was saved by veterinarian GREG MERTZ. I now can't see me ever bringing any of my pet family members to any other place. You can tell that the whole staff actually cares about your pet. I live in lowell Massachusetts and there are a lot of places between my home and the odd pet vet and I pass them all to go where my pet and I are treated better. Go there one time only and see the difference. Their a lot more than just a vet office. They have a lot of things going on there. So, if you have to bring your pet somewhere for whatever reason just try them once.

I was very nervous about having my rabbit neutered. They were so kind to me and my grandmother (even allowed her to peek in at him before he went into surgery) I felt much safer. 4 days later and he is very happy and healthy and acting like nothing ever happened. These are excellent people who know what they are doing. I drove all the way from the Cape just to go to them. I can't thank them enough.

Dr Mertz has over the years seen our turtles, hedgehogs, bearded dragons, guinea pigs and now chicken! Excellent, down to earth, highly knowledgeable, totally not in this field for money Vet!!!! Everything he makes$ practically from vet services goes back into his New England Wildlife Center services! Our sick pets have always done better with him than any other emergency "exotic" pet vet. Educational and free place to visit. Visitors can walk through and view the animal treatment rooms. There are lots of reptiles on display as well. Upstairs is a small children's museum for hands-on learning about nature.

Everyone there is incredibly kind, wasn't the kind of cold disconnected vibe you get at other vets. You can really tell their priority is helping a pet in need rather than just being all about money. I was very pleased with the time she took to examine both of my sugar gliders, she handled them both very well and she was more then happy to take the time to answer all of my questions. I've had trouble finding vets that have a lot of experience with sugar gliders/exotic animals and arent ridiculously expensive so I'm glad i found this place.

Can't say enough good things about this place! The staff is so wonderful! I took my 5 sugar gliders there for their check up, Dr. Trout totalling exceeded my expectations. She spent time with each one and gave them each a through exam, even checked all their teeth. I was so impressed with how well she handled them. Even my most unsocial wasnt a problem for her! She also took care of a sick glider for me and i have no question i would have lost her if not for Dr. Trout. Everyone is so kind and patient. And the prices! Cant beat how reasonable they are. When i picked up my girl from surgery i almost fainted when she told me how much. I was expecting to pay a big bill. Not even close to what i expected! Its so clear they truly care! Will never go anywhere else!

More that just an exotic pet veterinary practice, this is actually the clinic portion of the New England Wildlife Center, an animal rescue and educational foundation. The doctors here can take care of just about any mammal, bird or reptile that can be kept as a pet. In addition, most of the 3 story building is devoted to caring for sick, injured or orphaned wildlife, as well as educational displays about local ecosystems. During our first visit with Dr Mertz he not only conducted a thorough physical and fecal exam, but he also spent a lot of time educating us on the fine points of caring for our new bearded dragon. The fees are reasonable, with a normal office visit costing $65, and proceeds go to the support of the wildlife center. Interesting self guided tours of the building are also available for a small donation.

This is my all time favorite small pet vet when I moved and 1hr. 30min. away, I still traveled here. I only had one issue in the 4yrs I have been bringing my rabbits and rats here. They are fair and up front with their prices. The customer service is amazing and they really care about getting your pet the best care from the correct and most knowledgeable vet. The only problem I had was when I brought my rabbit in for a visit when he had ear mites they gave him medicine and he seemed to be recovering then suddenly only 3days after my visit he past away in a near by vet emergency room. This is not the fault of the great staff at Odd Pet Vet... I just wish they could have warned me that this might happen. Regardless of my loss I still would recommend this vet to anyone seeking an affordable, knowledgeable, kind, caring vet. They even will advise you via email if an appointment isn't available right away. Thank you Dr. Mertz my raties will miss you, now that we are too far to travel to you.

Dr. Mertz was able to diagnose the problem with our Dumeril's boa right away. Other vets had the wrong advice fir three times the price. It's important to go to a specialist like this for reptiles. Makes all the difference. We wouldn't go anywhere else for our snakes/gecko. Highly recommended with VERY reasonable fees. 5 stars!

I would not take my animals anywhere else. The vets are extremely knowledgeable, patient with my 10,000 questions that I always have, and extremely professional. When we lost power for a week during the winter, I was able to board my bearded dragon and Russian tortoise there until I was able to bring them home. The prices are also beyond reasonable.

Pros: -Rates are better than what my friends have been charged at other places. From what my turtle has experienced, it is $65 for an exam, $60 for X-rays, and $30 for a month of antibiotics. -I liked Dr. Trout the two times I have gone. She handled my turtle well and seemed knowledgeable about how to treat the respiratory infection. -After calling five other vets, they're the only ones willing to look at a turtle. Con: -I only have one con: the front desk. I've only had two appointments and something has gone wrong both times. The first appointment, I checked in (after a decent wait time), and the front desk told Dr. Trout I hadn't showed up so I waited an hour. After the first appointment, I made a follow up appointment for 10AM. When I arrived, I was told it had been put down as 9AM so I would have to wait until Dr. Trout was free to squeeze me in. That's another hour of waiting. After I left, I receive a call from the front desk saying they had undercharged me so they were sending an invoice. It's understandable that they're busy but if you have a reptile, you might want to bring a heat pack in case you're waiting in the A/C for an hour or more.
